TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE DRIVER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR BY POSITIONING HER BODY IN THE PATH OF THE DOOR, THE DOOR CONTINUED TO CLOSE ENTRAPPING THE BABY INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW WORKS BUT ALL 3 PASSENGER WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING. WINDOWS WILL NOT WORK FROM DRIVERS CONTROL OR FROM INDIVIDUAL WINDOW CONTROLS. CHILD SAFETY IS NOT ENGAGED AND CONTROL IS UNLOCKED ON DRIVERS SIDE. I HAVE SEEN DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS ON-LINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM; SEEMS HONDA SHOULD TAKE CARE OF A PROBLEM THAT IS OCCURRING IN GREAT NUMBERS ACROSS MANY OLDER AND NEWER ODYSSEY MODELS. *TR
ON OCTOBER 16, 2013, MY HONDA ACCELERATED AT A FAST SPEED UP MY DRIVEWAY AND CAUSED $6,178.37 IN REPAIR COSTS AND SLAMMED INTO MY FRONT PORCH. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK TO STOP THE CAR. WE IMMEDIATELY INFORMED HONDA AND OUR INSURANCE CARRIER OF THE ACCIDENT, AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO HONDA IN OLD BRIDGE, NJ, AS IT COULD NOT BE DRIVEN DUE TO DAMAGE. ON 11/15/2013, SEE CLAIMS SUMMARY, HONDA COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THIS AN ACCELERATION ISSUE. THEY NEVER INFORMED US OF WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. HONDA DID NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL CAR, SO I HAD TO RENT A CAR FROM 10/21/13 TO 11/26/13, WHICH I PAID $603.96 OUT OF POCKET (RECEIPTS ENCLOSED). THE AMOUNT OF TIME HONDA WAS WAY TOO LONG FIX MY CAR AND I HAD PAY ADDITIONAL RENTAL COSTS DUE TO THEIR UNREASONABLE DELAY. SHORTLY, AFTER HONDA REPAIRED MY CAR, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE THAT THE BRAKES WERE RECALLED. REALLY? THIS IS WHY MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL RECALLS ON MY HONDA. A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE, THE ENGINE BROKE DOWN. I WROTE TO NJ ATTORNEY GENERAL, WHO WROTE BACK AND ASKED THAT I WRITE TO YOU. I AM ALSO ATTACHING PICTURES OF THE ACCIDENT. THERE ARE TIRE MARKS IN THE DRIVEWAY DUE TO THE HIGH SPEED OF THE ACCELERATION. PHOTOS FLUIDS RUNNING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, AND THE DAMAGED FRONT END. I HAVE ALSO ENCLOSED NJ MANUFACTURER'S, COPY OF THE CLAIM SUMMARY DATED 11/15/13. THIS MATTER IS VERY UPSETTING TO ME AND THE WAY IT WAS HANDLED BY HONDA. MY HUSBAND, ALSO PURCHASED A NEW PILOT, AND MY HONDA WERE BOTH PURCHASED NEW AT THE SAME HONDA. I KNOW THERE ARE ACCELERATION ISSUES WITH THIS HONDA AND THIS WAS AN ACCELERATION ISSUE AND A MECHANICAL ISSUE ON THE FAULT OF THE BRAKES I AM REQUESTING TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE CAR RENTAL, INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE AND A REFUND OF THE COST I PAID FOR THE HONDA IN THE AMOUNT OF $28,931.46. MY CAR HAS NEVER DRIVEN THE SAME SINCE THE ACCIDENT.
I HAD NO PROBLEM W/ THE VSA. I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE AND HAD THE PART REPLACED. THIS OCT,2014 I WAS DRIVING ON US-2 IN NW MT ON A SLUSHY ROAD WHEN THE VSA WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO HONDA. THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE PART OF THE VSA UNIT WAS NOW FAULTY. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT IT WASN'T PART OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL.(REPLACEMENT COST OF THIS UNIT WAS QUOTED AS $1,100.00 W/O LABOR !!! ) WAS THIS REPLACEMENT PART ALSO DEFECTIVE?? WAS IT INCORRECTLY REPAIRED?? IS THIS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THIS RECALL??? WHO NOW PAYS THE REPAIR COST? WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE BRAKES FULLY ENGAGED AND ENGINE POWER WAS LOST WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR. SPEED DECREASED BY ABOUT 25MPH IN JUST A FEW SECONDS. WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE ACCELERATOR ENGINE ENGAGED AGAIN AND WE INCREASED SPEED TO ABOUT 45 MPH, WHEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS GOING TO SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE, THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN! POWER WAS REGAINED AT THE SAME SPEED ABOUT 25 MPH. WE SPEEDED UP TO ABOUT 45 MPH AGAIN AND THIS TIME I LOOKED AT THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKES FULLY ENGAGED THEMSELVES AGAIN THE BRAKE PEDAL ACTUALLY DEPRESSED WHILE I HAD MY FOOT ON ACCELERATOR ONLY! I THEN TOOK THE OVERDRIVE OFF AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN D3 MODE. THE INCIDENT DIDN'T OCCUR AGAIN WHILE IN D3 MODE. I WAS LEFT HAVING TO DRIVE ON FREEWAY AROUND 55MPH SCARED FOR MY AND MY FAMILIES LIVES! THIS VEHICLE SELF ENGAGED BRAKES FULLY THREE TIMES, WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON ACCELERATED ONLY! *TR
APPROX 10/2/13 WAS DRIVING ON A ROAD I TRAVEL FREQUENTLY AND WAS ACCELERATING WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR LOST POWER AND SLOWED RAPIDLY. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE THEN ON 10/11/13 I WAS DRIVING A ROAD I TRAVEL ON DAILY WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR SLOWED BY ABOUT 30 MPH IN JUST A FEW SECONDS. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND REALIZED IT WAS ALREADY ENGAGED AND WAS WHY I WAS SLOWING DOWN. 10/16/13 - CAR WENT TO DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. DEALER FOUND SOURCE CODES DTC 26-1 LATERAL ACC SENSOR, AND DTC 27-1 STEERING ANGLE SENSOR BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE AND TOLD ME THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE FIX WAS. 10/17/13 - WAS DRIVING ON THE SAME ROAD AS ON 10/11 - CLANGING/GRATING SOUND IN STEERING COLUMN AND THEN BRAKES ENGAGED, WAS ACCELERATING SLOWLY PRIOR TO THIS. SLOWED DOWN ALMOST TO A STOP, THEN SLOWLY ACCELERATED AGAIN. WITHIN A QUARTER OF A MILE IT HAPPENED AGAIN (WAS DRIVING SLOWER AT THIS TIME B/C I WAS WORRIED IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN), THIS TIME THE TRIANGLE W/ THE EXCLAMATION POINT ON IT FLICKERED (THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT CAME ON, ALL OTHER TIMES NO LIGHTS OR ANYTHING). TAKING IT BACK TO DEALER TOMORROW BUT UNLESS IT HAPPENS TO THEM WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. REPEATEDLY TOLD THEM OF THE INVESTIGATION BUT THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW THE FIX. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME DURING THESE OCCURRENCES BUT IF THEY HAD THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO HOW FAST THE CAR DECELERATED. *TR
THE VEHICLE IS HARD TO STEER WHEN STARTING FROM PARKED POSITION OR AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE HARD TO MANEUVER INTO A PARKING SPACE, PARALLEL PARK, OR TO PULL OUT FROM A PARKED POSITION. *TR
LAST FALL MY POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT WHEN I WAS DECELERATING OR REVERSING STARTED TO BE DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VAN WOULD MAKE A TERRIBLE NOISE WHEN IDLING AND YOU WOULD TURN THE VEHICLE AND I NOTICED IT SEEMED TO ONLY BE WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLD. I HAD AN AUTO SHOP EVALUATE IT AND FLUSH IT AS WELL AS PLACE A DYE TO SEE IF IT WAS LEAKING AND IT WASN'T. I WENT IN FOR A RECALL JUST RECENTLY AND THE DEALERSHIP STATED I SHOULD JUST REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP EVEN THOUGH THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AS MULTIPLE ONLINE CONSUMER COMPLAINT SITES HAVE LISTED THIS PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF I HAVE TO DRIVE IN ICY CONDITIONS TO WHICH I WILL HAVE TO DECELERATE I WILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH STEERING WHICH IS NOT SAFE FOR MYSELF, MY CHILDREN AND OTHER DRIVERS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OUT IN THE COUNTRY, I WAS GOING AROUND 40MPHS WHEN THE CAR FELT LIKE AN EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS PULLED UP. THE CAR BRAKED VERY QUICKLY FROM 40 TO ABOUT 5 -10MPHS. I STOPPED ,TESTED THE BRAKES AND BEGAN TO GO AGAIN VERY SLOWLY. AFTER DRIVING A FEW MINS SLOWLY I BEGAN TO GO FASTER WHEN I HIT ABOUT 35 MPH IT RAPIDLY BRAKE AGAIN. AT THIS POINT I WAS VERY SCARED, MY KIDS THOUGHT I HIT A ANIMAL. SO I DECIDED TO STOP, BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO FIND A ROAD TO PULL OVER ONTO IT REPEATED IT 3 MORE TIMES ONLY GOING ABOUT 10-15 MPH. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. HE COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM SO WE HAD IT TOWED TO PRIORITY HONDA IN CHESAPEAKE, VA TO HAVE TESTING DONE. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED 24 HRS EARLIER I WAS TRAVELING FROM RICHMOND, VA AND I WOULD HAVE CAUSE A CRASH. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND FELT THAT IT HAD PUT MY CHILDREN ALONG WITH MYSELF IN GRAVE DANGER. *TR
LIFTGATE STRUTS FAILURE. I JUST WANTED TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF THE DANGER WHEN A LIFTGATE STRUT FAILED WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR INDICATION OF FAILURE. MY ODYSSEY 2007 LIFTGATE WAS WORKING FINE ON SATURDAY BUT THEN COMPLETELY FAILED ON SUNDAY. IT JUST DROPS FROM AN OPEN POSITION. I'M GLAD THAT NO ONE GETS HURT. WHEN I TRY TO LIFT IT AGAIN, THE STRUT WOULD NOT HOLD THE TAILGATE OPEN ANYMORE. I REPORTED TO HONDA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR 2007 MODEL BUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2008 AND UP. I WILL SUGGEST THAT YOU ALSO CHECK THE STRUT ON MODELS 2005 AND UP AS IT LOOKS LIKE THERE A LOT OF COMPLAIN STRUT FAILURE ON THESE YEAR MODEL AS WELL WHEN YOU GO TO ODYCLUB.COM WHICH IS A FORUM FOR HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS. I WILL REPLACE MINE AND NOT WAIT FOR HONDA TO TAKE OWNERSHIP ON THIS FAILURE BUT I AM STILL REPORTING THIS IN HOPE THAT NO ONE WILL GET HURT IF HONDA CONTINUES TO IGNORE THIS ISSUE. LIFTGATE STRUTS FAILURE CAN CAUSE INJURY OR EVEN DEATH ESPECIALLY TO SMALL ADULTS AND CHILDREN. *TR
OUR 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY SUDDENLY STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR OUT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON. WE HAD RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR, AND THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS JUST A LEAK IN A HOSE, WE REFILLED THE FREON A FEW TIMES BEFORE THE WEATHER COOLED DOWN AND THEN LEFT IT ALONE FOR THE WINTER. WHEN I WENT TO HAVE IT FIXED LAST WEEK, I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE CONDENSER, JUST LIKE I HAD HEARD HAD HAPPENED TO A LOT OF OTHER 2007 ODYSSEY OWNERS. $970.00 LATER OUR AIR CONDITIONING WORKS, BUT THERE IS NOTHING TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. HONDA STILL ISN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY SHOULD AT LEAST OFFER TO PAY FOR A GUARD UNDER THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM FROM RECURRING. WHEN YOU LIVE IN ARIZONA LIKE I DO, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TT
DRIVING 45 MILES PER HOUR AND THE BRAKES SUDDENLY WENT ON VERY HARD BUT NOT IN A SKID. EVERY ONE WAS THROWN FORWARD INTO THEIR SEATBELTS. THE CAR BEHIND NEARLY CRASHED INTO US. I PUT 4-WAY FLASHERS ON AND WENT SLOWER - 35-40MPH AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT HAPPENED A THIRD TIME GOING SLOWER YET. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AT A STORE AND WHEN WE STARTED OFF AGAIN IT DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. HOW CAN THIS DANGEROUS HONDA MALFUNCTION BE FIXED? THANKS *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY AS THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO INCREASE ACCELERATION AND REGAIN NORMAL FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
THE LIFT GATE STRUT ON OUR 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L SUDDENLY FAILED AND THE GATE FELL BY ITSELF. IT ALMOST INJURED ME WHILE LOADING SHOPPING BAGS INTO THE TRUNK AREA. THE REAR GATE IS VERY HEAVY THAT IT COULD ACTUALLY RESULT IN A SEVERE INJURY OR FATALITY, WHEN IT SUDDENLY FELL ON ONE'S HEAD. AFTER SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THE SAME ISSUE OCCURS TO OTHER HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS. IN A ROUTINE VIRGINIA STATE SAFETY INSPECTION A HONDA DEALER FAILED MY WIFE'S 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN (50902 MILES) FOR TWO BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS (FRONT AND PASSENGER SIDE) AND A BURNED OUT BRAKE LIGHT. I DID NOT AND DO NOT BELIEVE THAT SUCH A NEW, LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE DEVELOPED BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS, ESPECIALLY SINCE MY WIFE DROVE THE VAN GENTLY SINCE IT WAS NEW. BECAUSE THE PROJECTED REPAIR COSTS TO REPLACE THE MOTOR MOUNTS, "CRACKED" COMPLIANCE BUSHINGS AND OTHER UNSPECIFIED BUSHINGS WERE EXPECTED TO BE SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS, I TOOK THE VAN TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOP FOR A SECOND OPINION. THE INDEPENDENT SHOP DID ESTABLISH THAT THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT WAS BROKEN AND THAT THE OTHER ISSUES, HOWEVER, WERE SPURIOUS. THE INDEPENDENT SHOP AGREED TO REPAIR THE VAN FOR $368. I THINK THAT HONDA HAS IN THIS CASE DESIGNED AND PRODUCED FAULTY MOTOR MOUNTS (I THINK THAT EACH HONDA ODYSSEY ENGINE HAS 5 MOTOR MOUNTS). I ALSO THINK THAT HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO REPLACE THE FAULTY MOTOR MOUNTS AT NO COST TO THE VEHICLE'S OWNERS AND SHOULD REIMBURSE OWNERS (CURRENT AND PRIOR) FOR ANY RELATED REPAIR COSTS. SINCE A FAULTY MOTOR MOUNT TRIGGERED A REJECTION IN A VIRGINIA STATE SAFETY INSPECTION, THIS HONDA MOTOR MOUNT FAILURE ISSUE IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND APPLYING MY BRAKES, THE ENGINE REVVED, BRAKES STOPPED RESPONDING AND THE VEHICLE PROPELLED FORWARD, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE JUMPING A MEDIAN AND RAMMING INTO A TREE AT WHICH POINT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND ENGINE CUT-OFF. THIS LEFT ME WITH BURNS ON THE SKIN OF MY ARMS AND NECK AREA. I HAVE OWNED AND DRIVEN THIS VAN FOR SIX YEARS AND AM CERTAIN THAT I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED AS THE DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT WAS LEFT INOPERABLE. WE WERE TOLD BY OUR DEALERSHIP THAT THE SIDE AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED WITHIN THE COLUMN, BUT DID NOT ENTER THE CABIN AS IT WAS NOT VISIBLE AND WAS CAUGHT WITHIN THE SEAT BELT PILLAR. *TR
WHILE PULLING OUT FROM WORK PARKING LOT, VSA LIGHT CAME ON, D LETTER GEAR WAS BLINKING, AND ENGINE VIBRATED ABNORMALLY. RPM COULD NOT GET PASSED 3000. ALSO, CHECKED ENGINE OIL WHEN GOT HOME AND IT APPEARED TO BE LOW. THE VEHICLE JUST GOT OIL CHANGED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING, THE VSA WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT "SPONGY" WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (VICTORY HONDA OF SANDUSKY, 2301 HAYES AVE, SANDUSKY, OH 44870) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VSA MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE PART COST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V500000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
VSA INDICATOR LIGHT APPEARED AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF. BROUGHT VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VSA SYSTEM ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE RECALL AT THAT TIME. DEALERSHIP STATES DOES NOT KNOW REASON FOR CURRENT PROBLEM. NOW DEALERSHIP ORDERS "REPLACE VSA CONTROL UNIT, REPLACE 47 PIN VSA CONNECTOR, BLEED SYSTEM, PERFORM SENSOR NEUTRAL MEMORIZATION PROCEDURE, AND TEST DRIVE." I AM CONCERNED THAT CURRENT PROBLEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH PREVIOUS RECALL PROBLEM OR THAT REPAIR MADE DURING RECALL DID NOT ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP DENIES THIS BUT CANNOT EXPLAIN REASON FOR CURRENT PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO PROVIDE ME THE DAMAGED PART(S). CONCERN: CAR HAD 41866 MILES AND WAS SERVICED AS REQUIRED. DEALERSHIP CANNOT IDENTIFY REASON FOR BREAKDOWN OF VSA PART OR SYSTEM. AS THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THIS PART IT APPEARS THAT THE CURRENT PROBLEM AND NEEDED REPAIRS MAY INDEED RELATE TO THE PREVIOUS RECALL. *TR
FOOT ON GAS PEDDLE WHEN CAR ACCELERATED BY ITSELF AND THEN THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE CAR MOVED TO THE RIGHT. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND IT FELT AS THOUGH I WAS BRAKING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. IT DID THIS ABOUT FIVE TIMES IN THE DISTANCE OF ABOUT 3/4 OF A MILE. IF SOMEONE WHERE TRAVELING CLOSE BEHIND ME THEY WOULD HAVE REAR-ENDED ME. THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER NOW, BUT I GUESS IT'S CALLED THE "EVA" (?) LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TODAY THE LIGHT DID NOT SHOW. MY GRANDDAUGHTER WAS WITH US IN THE CAR AND LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ON HER PHONE WHILE WE WERE DRIVING AND SAW THAT HONDA ODYSSEY HAD THIS BREAKING PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THIS WHERE TO OCCUR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I LUCKILY WAS A FEW MILES FROM HOME AND LIMPED HOME, BUT WAS ON THE INTERSTATE SHORTLY BEFORE THIS BREAKING PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35-40 MPH AT A STEADY RATE ON AN EMPTY STREET. MY FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN QUICKLY. THE CAR STEERING PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND I FELT VIBRATIONS IN MY FOOT THAT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS LASTED ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS, THEN RESOLVED AND THE CAR WENT BACK TO IT'S PREVIOUS SPEED. THIS HAPPENED 4 MORE TIMES IN THE NEXT FEW MINUTES. DURING THESE EPISODES I LOOKED DOWN AND CONFIRMED THAT MY FOOT WAS IN THE PROPER PLACE, AND I ACTUALLY SAW THE BRAKE DEPRESS SPONTANEOUSLY A FEW MILLIMETERS. I ALSO CHECKED THE CARPET AND PULLED IT FAR AWAY TO MAKE SURE IT WAS NOT INTERFERING WITH THE PEDAL. I WAS ON AN ISOLATED ROAD, SO FORTUNATELY NO CARS WERE BEHIND ME. I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALER. MY CAR WAS AT THE BURNS HONDA REPAIR SHOP FOR A WEEK AND THEY INSISTED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT AND RETURNED I NEVER DROVE IT AGAIN. *TR
WHILE MAINTAINING A SPEED OF APPROX. 40 MPH WITH MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT SUDDENLY FELT AS IF SOMEONE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. THIS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE ON THIS DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THERE WERE NO CODES AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SITUATION. THEY CHECKED THE BRAKING SYSTEM THOROUGHLY BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF MY ISSUE. ONE MONTH LATER (8/17/13), THE SAME "SEVERE UNINTENDED BRAKING" HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES WITHIN 1/2-3/4 OF A MILE. ACCELERATING DOWN HWY AFTER MAKING U-TURN WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWS DOWN AS IF SLAMMING ON BRAKES-IT DID THIS A SECOND TIME APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE LATER. VSA LIGHT TURNED ON APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES LATER THAN 2ND SUDDEN SLOWDOWN. *TR
I ENTERED A HIGHWAY AND WAS ACCELERATING TO A SPEED OF APPROX. 35 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED, AS IF THE BRAKES HAD BEEN SLAMMED ON, CAUSING ME TO LURCH FORWARD, TRIGGERING THE SEAT BELTS TO TIGHTEN. I MAINTAINED STEERING CONTROL, REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL, THEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED RAPIDLY WITHOUT MY PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 60 SECONDS. I'M STATING THIS MILDLY WHEN I SAY THE EXPERIENCE WAS TERRIFYING. I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND CALLED OUR MECHANIC WHO ADVISED I SLOWLY AND SAFELY DRIVE THE VAN TO THE SHOP, WHICH WASN'T TOO FAR AWAY, OR CONSIDER HAVING IT TOWED. I CHOSE TO DRIVE SLOWLY TO THE MECHANICS AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR AGAIN. UPON DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, OUR MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A STEERING SENSOR THAT LOST ITS MEMORY AND NEEDED RESET, AN EASY FIX AND THAT WHILE THIS PROBLEM IS RARE, IT'S NOT UNHEARD OF, YET IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. (WE HAD RECENTLY HAD NEW TIRES INSTALLED PRIOR TO THIS EVENT, THE MECHANIC SUSPECTED THAT WHILE THE TIRES WERE BEING CHANGED, THE SENSOR'S MEMORY MUST HAVE BEEN WIPED.) THE SECOND EVENT WAS THIS PAST WED., OCT. 2, THE SAME EXPERIENCE AS BEFORE HAPPENED AGAIN. ONLY ON THIS OCCASION, OUR MECHANIC'S DIAGNOSTIC TESTING DID NOT PROVIDE A CODE AS IT HAD BEFORE, BUT RECOGNIZING THE COMPLAINT, THEY RESET THE SENSOR AGAIN. IN BOTH EVENTS, THE ROADS WERE DRY, CLEAR WEATHER, WE WERE DRIVING ON NEW TIRES AND AT LOW SPEEDS, HAVING JUST MOMENTS BEFORE TURNED ON THE IGNITION AND BEGUN ACCELERATING. WE ARE NOW BEING TOLD THAT OUR VEHICLE HAS TWO BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS. WE HIGHLY SUSPECT THIS IS DUE TO THE SUDDEN JERKING BACK AND FORWARDS FROM THIS INVOLUNTARY DECELERATION/ACCELERATION ISSUE; IT'S AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR! I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND ACCELERATING WHEN SUDDENLY MY MINIVAN BRAKES BY ITSELF. IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE ELSE WAS CONTROLLING THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR ME. IT WAS HORRIFYING. IT PULLED OVER AND WAITED UNTIL I WAS OK TO DRIVE AGAIN. I CONTINUE DRIVING AND AGAIN WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN AND BRAKED TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP. I DECIDED TO KEEP ON DRIVING TO GET TO THE NEAREST SAFEST PLACE TO PARK AND CALL FOR ASSISTANCE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES UNTIL I PARKED AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO CALL FOR A RELATIVE ASSISTANCE GETTING BACK HOME BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY THREE CHILDREN AND I DIDN'T WANT TO ENDANGER THEM. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE MINIVAN HOME AND IT DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN. THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE RAYBESTOS'S ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY ROTORS (MODEL #980290) THAT I BROUGHT AT O'REILLY AUTO PART STORE AND INSTALLED ON MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY IN 06/26/2011. LAST WEEK ON 06/23/2013 WHILE INSPECTING THE PULSATION ISSUES, I FOUND FINE CRACKS ON BOTH ROTORS. WITH CURIOSITY I SEARCHED "RAYBESTOS ROTOR CRACKS" OVER THE INTERNET AND I FOUND THE BRAKE ROTOR SAFETY PUBLIC AWARENESS PUBLISHED AT THE RAYBESTOS SITE. BASED ON THE INFORMATION FROM RAYBESTOS, CERTAIN IMPORTED BRAKE ROTORS INCLUDING RAYBESTOS BRAND HAVE THIS ISSUE. I CHECKED THE BOX AND FOUND THE ROTORS WERE MADE IN CHINA. THEIR SITE PROVIDED NHTSA LINK TO FILE COMPLAINT.

THE PAINT ON OUR HONDA ODYSSEY IS FAILING. HONDA OFFERED A RECALL/WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT MADE NO ATTEMPT TO ALERT US ABOUT IT UNTIL AFTER THE RECALL/WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. WE SPECIFICALLY ASKED ABOUT ANY SERVICE BULLETINS OR RECALLS BEFORE THE RECALL/WARRANTY EXPIRED AND WERE TOLD THERE WERE NONE. IT WASN'T UNTIL AFTER THE RECALL/WARRANTY EXPIRED THAT WERE WE TOLD ABOUT IT. HONDA IS NOW TELLING US THAT THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE FAILING PAINT BECAUSE THE RECALL/WARRENTY IS EXPIRED. WE HAVE TRIED TO WORK THROUGH THE LOCAL DEALER AND HONDA'S NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TO NO AVAIL. HONDA'S BUSINESS STRATEGY AROUND THIS PARTICULAR RECALL/WARRANTY APPEARS TO BE TO HIDE INFORMATION FROM CONSUMERS UNTIL THEY ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED TO RESPOND TO SPECIFIC PROBLEMS WITH THEIR VEHICLES. I HAVE HAD 2 BRAKE RECALLS ON MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. DURING MY LAST VISIT TO A HONDA AUTO CENTER THEY CHANGED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND UPON A "VISUAL" INSPECTION ADVISED ME THAT MY BRAKE PADS WERE AT 3MM EACH WHICH IS SUFFICIENT. I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS WAS WRONG BECAUSE MY CAR MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS. I BELIEVE THAT THE 2 RECALLS FOR DIFFERENT BRAKE ISSUES HAVE COMPROMISED MY BRAKE PERFORMANCE AND PREMATURELY DETERIORATED MY BRAKES. WHILE TRAVELING ON FLAT, LEVEL SURFACE STREETS AT ROUGHLY 40MPH, CAR WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY DOWNSHIFT (TO 1ST GEAR?) CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW VERY QUICKLY/LOTS OF DRAG (LOCKING UP SEATBELTS) AS IF THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED QUICKLY. THE VEHICLE WILL THEN RESHIFT BACK INTO A HIGHER GEAR WITH LITTLE TO NO RESISTANCE AGAIN. THIS MAY HAPPEN 1-4 TIMES WITHIN A 60 SECOND PERIOD. PULLING THE CAR OVER, TURNING OFF AND TURNING ON AGAIN SEEMS TO FIX ISSUE. SHIFTING INTO SECOND GEAR, SEEMED TO FIX ISSUE. SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL, POWER CYCLING CAR SEEMED TO FIX ISSUE. OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS OR SO, THIS HAS HAPPENED ~2X MONTH. *TR

PASSENGER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR FELL OFF WHEN IT WAS OPENED. ROLLER ASSEMBLY HAD BROKEN, CABLES WERE STILL ATTACHED. *TR
MY DAUGHER AND I HEARD A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY VAN AND OPENED UP MY TAILGATE TO SEE WHERE THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM. THE TAILGATE WAS WORKING BUT A CLICKING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE STRUT ON THE LEFT. BOTH MY SIX YEAR OLD AND I WERE UNDER THE TAILGATE AT THE TIME TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE CLICKING NOISE WAS COMING FROM. TEN MINUTES LATER THE STRUT FAILED. IT WOULD NO LONGER STAY OPEN AT ALL AND SLAMMED DOWN INSTEAD OF STAYING OPEN. HAD MY DAUGHTER AND/OR I HAD BEEN UNDER IT AT THE TIME OF FAILURE, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION FOR A FAMILY VEHICLE. ON A RECENT VACATION WE FIRST NOTICED ON MODERATE DOWNHILL GRADES WITH VERY MODERATE BRAKING WHEELS WOULD START TO SHIMMY WITH SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WITH A TOTAL RELEASE OF BRAKES, SHIMMY WOULD IMMEDIATELY STOP, AND NO WHEEL VIBRATIONS WOULD BE FELT. BRAKING ON FLAT AREAS OR IN CITY DRIVING NO VIBRATIONS ARE FELT, EVEN WITH FAIRLY HARD BRAKING. DURING OUR TRIP THIS STARTED HAPPENING ON ALMOST EVERY DOWNHILL GRADE MAKING THE CAR VERY HARD TO CONTROL. RETURNED FROM OUR TRIP AND DROVE MOSTLY ON ROADS WHERE WE DO NOT HAVE MANY DOWNHILL GRADES AND DID NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN, UNTIL RECENTLY WE TRAVELED ON AN INTERSTATE ROAD FROM A CITY APPROXIMATELY 50 FROM US THAT HAD SEVERAL DOWNHILL GRADES. ON EVERY SLIGHT DOWNHILL GRADE IF THE BRAKES WERE EVEN APPLIED VERY GENTLY, THE SHAKING AND STEERING WHEEL WOBBLE WOULD START IMMEDIATELY. BUT AGAIN WOULD NOT DO IT ON A LEVEL ROAD. THIS SHAKING AND VIBRATION MAKES THE CAR VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW AND NOW HAS ONLY 26333 MILES, AND HAS ONLY BEEN SERVICED BY A HONDA DEALER. EVERY TIME THE BRAKES WERE CHECKED FOR SERVICE EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK. THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER BEEN WORKED ON OR HAD ANY REPAIRS OF ANY SORT DONE ON THEM OR ANY RELATED PARTS. IT IS STILL IN COMPLETE FACTORY CONDITION. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND COULD VERY EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, AND I KNOW THAT TAKING IT INTO A HONDA DEALERSHIP THEY WOULD SIMPLY TAKE IT AROUND THE BLOCK AND SAY EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND DO NOTHING. YESTERDAY MY THREE YEAR OLD HAD 3 OF HIS TEETH NEARLY RIPPED OUT OF HIS HEAD BY AN INTEGRATED SUNSHADE IN THE SLIDING DOOR OF MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. BY NEARLY RIPPED OUT I MEAN THEY GOT CAUGHT IN THE THING WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENING...THE DOOR DIDN'T STOP OPENING AND IT CAUSED HIS TEETH TO STICK STRAIGHT OUT OF HIS MOUTH (MOVED ALMOST 90 DEGREES UPWARD). THE WINDOW WAS COMPLETELY UP AND THE WINDOWS ARE TINTED IN THE REAR OF THE ODYSSEY'S SO I COULDN'T SEE HIM HOLDING (AND APPARENTLY BITING) THE SUNSHADE WHILE APPROACHING THE REAR PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR. I WOULD NOT HAVE OPENED THE DOOR KNOWING IT WAS IN HIS MOUTH. I APPLIED PRESSURE AND GOT HIS TEETH TO GO BACK IN PLACE AND TOOK HIM TO THE DENTIST. WE ARE ON A WAIT-AND-SEE SCENARIO WITH WHETHER OR NOT MY CHILD WILL LOSE HIS TEETH. I INQUIRED, WITH HONDA VEHICLES, IF THERE WAS ANY SORT OF LOCK FOR THIS SUNSHADE AND WHY THERE ISN'T A SENSOR TO INDICATE SOMETHING IS TUGGING ON THE DOORS. HE TOLD ME THERE IS NO PRODUCT THAT CAN LOCK THE SUNSHADE IN THE RETRACTED POSITION TO PREVENT INJURIES, DIDN'T COMMENT ON THE SENSORS, AND TOLD ME TO MOVE MY CHILD TO THE BACK SEAT OF THE VAN. *TR

WE THINK HONDA EITHER REPLACED THE RECALLED TRANSMISSION WITH AN INFERIOR PRODUCT TO SAVE MONEY, OR USED THE SAME RECALLED TRANSMISSION TO REPLACE OUR FACTORY TRANSMISSION.
