TODAY 2/15/13 , WHEN MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING FROM AUSTIN TO HOUSTON AROUND 7:30 AM ON A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY MINI VAN A ONE OF FOUR TIRES EXPLODED. WE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING ON THE HIGHWAY IT JUST EXPLODED IN AN AREA CLOSE TO THE RIM. IT WAS A REAR TIRE. WE CALLED AAA TO COME TO HELP US AND LATER WE WENT TO 2 DIFFERENT GOODYEAR TIRE OUTLETS AND I NOTICED THAT ALL TIRES OF THESE KIND HAD BUBBLES ALL OVER THE TIRES. THE TIRES WERE BOUGHT LESS THAN 3 YEARS AGO AND HAVE ABOUT HALF OF ITS TREADS LEFT ON THEM. *TR
WHENEVER I BRAKE FROM ABOUT 70MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL RATTLES TO A POINT THAT I HAVE TO HOLD IT WITH TWO HANDS. I'VE RESEARCH ONLINE AND MANY PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WITHOUT A RESOLUTION. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE BEFORE IT CAUSE MAJOR ACCIDENTS. *TR
AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT DRIVER ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 32 MPH; THE VAN SUDDENLY DECELERATED TO NEARLY A DEAD STOP. ONCE THE VAN RETURNED TO A NORMAL SPEED THE SAME EVENT OCCURRED WITHIN MINUTES OF THE FIRST INCIDENT. WEATHER WAS RAINY; DRIVER WAS ALONE. THE VAN WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE INCIDENT. *TT
2002 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FAULTY TRANSMISSION IN VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WHEN SUDDENLY, IT FELT AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD JERKED OUT OF GEAR OR IF THE BRAKE HAD BEEN APPLIED. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE RECENTLY DROVE THE VEHICLE, AND THE TCS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STARTED JERKING AGAIN.
2007 ODYSSEY MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT. POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED LAST YEAR BUT WAS TOLD THE RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. 97,000 MILES WITH MAINTENANCE KEPT UP TO DATE. *TR
THE REAR RIGHT BRAKE LOCKED UP OVER NIGHT AND DESTROYED THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE REAR WHEEL. THE ENTIRE BRAKES WERE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY A YEAR EARLIER ON ALL 4 WHEELS SO THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A 1 YEAR OLD BRAKING SYSTEM. DEALER SAID IT MUST HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE SENSOR THAT DID NOT LET GO OF THE REAR BRAKE AND IT INSTANTANEOUSLY DESTROYED THE REAR WHEEL BRAKE. THE GRINDING SOUND WAS VERY LOUD AS THE BRAKE DID NOT LET GO AND DESTROYED THE ONE YEAR OLD ROTOR. I RECALL READING ABOUT A RECALL FROM HONDA IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2013 (RIGHT AFTER MY INCIDENT) ON OTHER HONDA VEHICLES AND ALSO SOME ODYSSEY OVERSEAS BUT NOT IN USA. PLEASE LOG MY COMPLAINT AND LET ME KNOW OF THE NEXT STEPS. THIS CAR HAS BEEN DEALER SERVICED AT ALL THE REQUIRED CHECKPOINTS. THANK YOU. *TR
I WAS DRIVING NORMAL NOT ON HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH, THE VAN ALL THE SUDDEN APPLIES THE BRAKE BY ITSELF ON ALL FOUR BRAKES, REDUCING THE SPEED TO 15 MPH, WHILE I DID NOT ENGAGE BRAKE AT ALL, THE ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT FOR THE CAR BEHIND ME, THERE WAS VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC, AND I WAS WONDERING WHAT IS GOING ON.. THE BRAKE THEN DISENGAGE BY ITSELF COMPLETELY WITHIN SECONDS, PLEASE DO INVESTIGATE AS I HAVE SEEN THIS MYSELF TIMES AND PEOPLE ARE DISCUSSING SAME SYMPTOM IN THE FORUM. *TR
THE CAR IS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE REAR TAILGATE STRUTS FAILED TO HOLD THE TAILGATE OPEN AND HIT MY WIFE'S BACK.THIS ISSUE HAPPENED ON JAN. 2013. *TR
I OWN A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L. HAD VEHICLE IN THE SHOP TODAY FOR PA STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION AND THE VEHICLE FAILED DUE TO A BROKEN FRONT AND REAR ENGINE MOUNT. VEHICLE HAS 66,000 MILES ON IT AND IS ONLY 6,000 MILES OUT OF EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS APPEARS TO BE COMMON PROBLEM AS SEEN FROM OTHER POSTS ON THE INTERNET ...SO MUCH SO THAT THE MECHANIC CERTAINLY WAS AWARE OF IT TO FIND IN LESS THAN A 5 MINUTE LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A DRIVEABILITY COMPLAINT BY ME. NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE THIS COMMON SAFETY FAILURE MODE FOR THE HONDA ODYSSEY. COSTS TO REPAIR TOTALED $1001.84 ($722.99 PARTS AND $278.85 LABOR) TO REPAIR THIS SAFETY ISSUE FOUND DURING STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. *TR
THE WINDOWS WOULD NOT ROLL BACK UP. IT WAS FREEZING OUTSIDE AND WE WERE ON A LONG ROAD TRIP. FUSE BOX WAS CHECKED. ALL WORKING. LOCKS WERE CHECKED. ALL WORKING. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW IS THE ONLY WINDOW THAT WILL OPERATE. THANKFULLY, THEY ROLLED BACK UP AND WE LOCKED IT WITH THE MAIN SWITCH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. AT FIRST THEY WORKED INTERMITTENTLY, HOWEVER, AFTER UNLOCKING THE SAFETY MASTER WINDOW SWITCH AFTER OUR VACATION, THE WINDOWS NO LONGER WORK (EXCEPT FOR THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW). THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WHEN NEEDING FRESH AIR, OR FOR GETTING CAR SICK. I'VE SEEN MANY VEHICLES OF THIS SAME MANUFACTURER HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM WHEN SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS ONLINE. *TR
TODAY ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY CAR'S DASHBOARD START BLINKING NON-STOP. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR BUT THE LIGHTS WERE BLINKING THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE TRIP. *TR
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON. DEALER SAID IT WAS RIGHT FRONT SENSOR WHICH THEY REPLACED. IT DID NOT FIX IT AND NOW THEY SAY THE CONTROL SYSTEM IS BAD AND AIR BAGS WILL NOT WORK. PERHAPS THIS IS RELATED TO OTHER HONDA AIR BAG RECALLS. THIS IS THE THIRD MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, BRAKES (RECALLED), STEERING (RECALLED) AND AIR BAGS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO BRAKE ON ITS OWN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SPEED DECREASED TO 15 MPH BUT THEN STOPPED COMPLETELY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HIS HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND STATED THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
WE HAVE A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 76,000 MILES. IN DECEMBER 2012 WE HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 3-4 MINUTES, EXITING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATING TO REACH 65 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN WE REACHED APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MPH AND WERE STILL ACCELERATING THE CAR SPONTANEOUSLY APPLIED THE BRAKES FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 SECONDS, LURCHING US FORWARD. WE STOPPED ACCELERATING AND BEGAN TO PULL OVER. IT AGAIN SPONTANEOUSLY BRAKED AS WE WERE SLOWING DOWN. WE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE SLOWLY ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TO GET TO THE NEXT EXIT, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. ONCE WE WERE FINALLY ABLE TO STOP IN A SAFE PLACE WE TURNED OFF THE CAR. WE TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT DID NOT DO IT AGAIN. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY ONLY FOUND ONE CODE - THE STEERING SENSOR. THEY RE-CALIBRATED IT BUT WERE NOT CONVINCED THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. SURE ENOUGH, APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. WE WERE NOT GOING QUITE AS FAST AND IT DID NOT LURCH QUITE AS SEVERE. AFTER IT DID THIS THREE TIMES I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND PUSHED THE SWITCH TO TURN THE VSA OFF. IT DID NOT OCCUR AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND NO CODES. THEY DROVE 17 MILES AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS BOTH TIMES WERE APPROXIMATELY 30-40 DEGREES WITH SOME SNOW OR WETNESS ON THE GROUND FROM PRIOR PRECIPITATION. THE DEALER CONTINUES TO SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEM BECAUSE IT SHOWS NO CODE AND THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND THEY INSTRUCTED DEALER TO DRIVE AGAIN AND TRY TO DUPLICATE. THEY DENY ANY OTHER INCIDENTS DOCUMENTED (DESPITE LISTINGS ON THIS WEBSITE THAT SAY THEY HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE SAME PROBLEM.) *TR
BOTH MY POWER SLIDING DOORS ARE STARTING TO FAIL. THERE SEEM TO BE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT REAR POWER DOOR ISSUES ON THE ODYSSEYS. OUR DRIVER SIDE REAR POWER DOOR DOES NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK PROPERLY UNLESS DONE MANUALLY AND IT WILL NOT OPEN WITH THE REMOTE OR THE BUTTON ON THE DASHBOARD. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOORS MAKES A LOUD POPPING NOISE WHEN IT OPENS AND ALSO MAKE A NOISE AFTER ITS CLOSED AS IF THE DOOR HADN'T LATCHED PROPERLY. HAVE NOT HAD ANY BROKEN OR FALLEN DOORS YET. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ENDEMIC ISSUE RATHER THAN A FEW PROBLEMS HERE AND THERE. THIS IS ALSO AN ISSUE WITH SAFETY MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE HENCE REQUIRING IMMEDIATE ATTENTION FROM HONDA WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I HAVE TO RUSH MY THREE SMALL CHILDREN OUT OF THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY AND AM NOT ABLE TO OPEN EITHER DOORS OR AS IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PARENTS MY DOOR FALLS WHILE DRIVING?????? THIS IS A PART OF THE CAR THAT SHOULD NOT FAIL AFTER ANY YEAR OF SERVICE AND SENSIBLE USE, HOWEVER IS HAPPENING TO NEW AS WELL AS OLDER MODELS. AND WHY ARE WE CONTINUOUSLY BEING STUCK WITH THE BILL (UPWARDS OF $500.00) FOR HONDA'S FAILURE TO PRODUCE QUALITY DOORS AND DOOR ASSEMBLIES FOR ONE OF THE MOST CRITICAL PART OF A CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW FROM YOU GOVERNMENT WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THIS. WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER TOYOTA SITUATION, WHERE WE HAD TO SEE PEOPLE PERISHING BEFORE YOU GUYS DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!! *TR
WE HAVE A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY THAT SUDDENLY STARTED TO HAVE THE PAINT BUBBLE UP AND BEGIN PEELING. IT STARTED OFF IN TWO SMALL AREAS ON THE HOOD AND THE ROOF AND HAS GROWN TREMENDOUSLY IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS. IT LOOKS AWFUL. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, RATTLING NOISE EMITTED AND SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND RESUMED FOR FIVE MINUTES BEFORE THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE LOWER END OF THE ENGINE FRACTURED AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. UPDATED 12/10/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DAMAGED AND HE/SHE WOULD LIKE TO CLOSE THE CASE. 12/17/12
A LETTER FROM SENATOR WICKER ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE SAFETY CONCERN ABOUT HIS 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY (DOT/I # S-2012-274) *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VAN HAD A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES LOCKING UP WHILE DRIVING. THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING, WHICH ALMOST CAUSED HER TO BE REAR ENDED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, THE WHEEL WOULD BECOME RESISTANT AND THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED GREAT DIFFICULTY IN TURNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,891.
THE CAR HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY HARD TO STEER OVER THE LAST TWO TO THREE YEARS TO THE POINT THAT IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN IT INTO PARKING SPOTS OR OTHER AREAS AT LOW SPEEDS. MY WIFE FEELS PARTICULARLY UNSAFE ABOUT DRIVING IT LIKE THIS, AS SHE IS AFRAID SHE WILL HIT ANOTHER CAR OR OBJECT RELATED TO THE INABILITY TO TURN WITHOUT MANUALLY OVERPOWERING THE STEERING WHEEL. IN CHECKING FOR A RECALL, I NOTED THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS WITH SIMILAR ISSUE. PLEASE ADDRESS AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU. FOR ONSET DATE, THIS IS A GRADUALLY WORSENING ISSUE. I WOULD SAY THAT I FIRST NOTICED SLIGHT INCREASED RESISTANCE ABOUT 3-4 YEARS AGO. IT HAS WORSENED TO THE POINT THAT IT IS NOW A MAJOR RESISTANCE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN AT LOW/MINIMAL SPEED. *TR
THE LIFT GATE GAS FILLED STRUTS ON OUR 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY HAVE FAILED. THE LIFT GATE WILL NOT STAY OPEN TO PACK THE VAN FOR TRIPS AND REQUIRES SOME SORT OF PROP TO STAY OPEN. THE GATE HAS FALLEN TWICE OFF THE PROP AND HIT ME, NOT SERIOUSLY, BUT IT HURT. IT'S HEAVY. I SEE THAT LATER MODELS HAVE A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS BUT THE 2007 DOES NOT AS OF YET. VSA WARNING LIGHT WENT ON SUDDENLY DURING DRIVING. STEERING WHEEL FEELS NOT STABLE WHEN TURNING AFTER THE LIGHT IS ON. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HONDA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE VSA MODULE AND THE COMPUTER IS LOST AND NEED REPLACE VSA MODULE FOR $1,600. IT IS NOT A PROBLEM CAUSED BY WEAR-AND TEAR AND HONDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING THE ELECTRONICS MORE RELIABLE IN ODYSSEY MODELS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COMPRESSOR FAILED TO FUNCTION AND HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE. THE PART WAS REPLACED BY A DEALER (HONDA OF SPRING, 17350 NORTH FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77090), BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. YEARS PRIOR TO THE FAILURES, THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED BY MORE THAN ONE UNKNOWN DEALER AND EXTENSIVE ELECTRICAL REPAIRS WERE MADE, BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE COMPRESSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
SLIDING DOORS KEEP FAILING EVEN AFTER SEVERAL REPLACEMENTS BY HONDA. DOORS DO NOT REMAIN CLOSED EVEN WHEN LOCKED. REAR SECTION OF SLIDING DOOR REMAINS AJAR. A SIDE IMPACT OR SIDE SWIPE CRASH COULD EASILY TEAR OPEN THE DOORS. SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT COULD ALSO CAUSE INJURY IF TRIPPED BY THE FAILING DOORS. AS I SAID THIS IS AN ONGOING RE-OCCURRENCE EVEN AFTER HONDA REPAIR. I KNOW OF SEVERAL OTHER ODYSSEY OWNERS DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUE. HONDA DEALER ADMITS THEY SEE MANY OF THESE IN 2007-2008 ODYSSEYS'. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY, EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TOURING TIRES, SIZE: 235/65/R16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TIRE SHOP WHERE THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE TECHNICIANS DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT. A GOODYEAR DEALER ALSO INSPECTED TIRE AND ADVISED THAT THE BLOW OUT WAS CAUSED BY A LOW PSI. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,065. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,500. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.
2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE BRAKES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES EMITTED A SQUEALING AND GRINDING NOISE ON A REGULAR, BUT NOT CONSTANT ON A BASIS WHEN BRAKING OR TURNING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE BRAKE PROBLEM HAD BEEN RECTIFIED. HOWEVER, THE NEXT DAY, THE CONSUMER NOTICED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH, THE VAN WOULD VIBRATE AND SHIMMY. HE ALSO NOTICED A CONSTANT AND UNUSUALLY LOUD WASHING-MACHINE-AGITATOR TYPE NOISE WHICH BECAME LOUDER WHILE RIDING IN THE MIDDLE SEAT AREA. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENTIRE VAN VIBRATED SO VIOLENTLY WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH AND OVER HE BECAME EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP, WHERE IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE REAR MOTOR MOUNT, ROTORS AND BRAKES BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT ONE OF THE TIRES WAS BADLY WORN. *JB

THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN THE HOUSTON AREA APPROX 5-6 MILES AFTER STARTING TO DRIVE FROM A COVERED PARKING GARAGE . THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 90 DEG F. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A HONDA DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE LOCAL HONDA REP REFUSED TO ENTERTAIN THE REQUEST AS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. A CASE N012012-08-230-0553 WAS OPENED WITH AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER CARE AND I WAS PROMISED THAT A REP WOULD CALL ME BY END OF DAY FRIDAY . HOWEVER, NO ONE CALLED. THERE ARE SEVERAL INCIDENTS REPORTED LIKE THIS ON THE INTERNET , NOT JUST FOR THE VAN BUT FOR OTHER HONDA VEHICLES AS WELL. ALSO , A RECALL HAS RECENTLY BEEN ISSUED FOR 2800 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY VANS FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOWS. THE IGNORANCE ON THE PART OF HONDA TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM CONCERNS ME BECAUSE ANY OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS SITTING IN THAT SEAT WOULD HAVE BEEN GRAVELY HURT . THE BRAKES PEDAL IS VERY SPONGY. YOU HAVE TO PRESS QUITE HARD TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. VSA MODULATOR SEAL RECALL WORK HAS BEEN DONE ALREADY AND THERE ARE NEW BRAKE PADS ON THE VAN. I HAVE REPLACED BRAKE FLUID AND BLEED SYSTEM MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS CAR DOES NOT INSPIRE BRAKING PERFORMANCE. *TR
MY WIFE HAD MENTIONED SHE HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE HATCH ON HER HONDA. YESTERDAY SHE SAID IT WAS SLOW TO OPEN; TODAY SHE SAID IT WOULD NOT OPEN AT ALL. I WENT OUT TO LOOK AT THE HATCH AND TRY TO DETERMINE IF SHE HAD A BLOWN FUSE, ETC. I PUSHED THE BUTTON ON THE REMOTE AND THE TAILGATE OPENED, CONTRARY TO WHAT SHE HAD TOLD ME. IT SEEMED TO OPEN SLOWER THAN NORMAL. I WENT TO SEE IF ANYTHING WAS ATTACHED TO THE HATCH THAT WOULD SLOW DOWN ITS OPENING. IT WAS RAINING, SO I STEPPED UNDER THE HATCH. WITHOUT WARNING IT CAME DOWN ON ME. THE INTERIOR OF THE HATCH HIT ME ON THE HEAD, KNOCKED ME FORWARD THEN HIT ME IN THE BACK OF MY LEGS, CAUSING PAIN TO BOTH MY SHINS AND CALVES WHERE I WAS STRUCK BY THE HATCH AND REAR BUMPER. I ALREADY HAVE SOME ISSUES WITH A STAINED NECK DUE TO MILITARY RELATED SERVICE. WHEN THE HATCH HIT ME ON THE HEAD I FELT A SUDDEN JOLT OF PAIN IN MY ARM AND SHOULDER, LIKE A HUGE ELECTRIC SHOCK. NOW MY NECK IS VERY SORE/STIFF. I HAVE HAD MANY OTHER CARS WITH REAR HATCHES. THE HATCH STRUTS WOULD SLOWLY LOSE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS, AND WOULD GIVE YOU SOME SORT OF WARNING THAT THEY WERE GOING TO BE IN NEED OF REPAIR. THESE HATCHES WOULD BECOME LESS EFFECTIVE IN THE WINTER, DURING COLD WEATHER. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH OUR ODYSSEY. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND UNOCCUPIED FOR OVER 8 HOURS FROM ITS LAST DRIVE TIME. NO KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION AND NO EQUIPMENT OR ACCESSORIES WERE OPERATING. THE WIRING UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT IGNITED AND THE RESULTING FIRE CONSUMED THE CABIN TOTALING THE VEHICLE. *TR
PURCHASED THIS HONDA NEW IN DECEMBER 2006. NO PROBLEMS WITH IT TILL THIS INCIDENT. BOTH BACK WHEELS STARTED MAKING TERRIBLE NOISES. A GRINDING AND SCREECHING SOUND AT ALL SPEEDS. I ASKED A FEW FRIENDS WHO HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AND THEY SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE BOTH REAR BEARINGS ON THEIR VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALER AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. BOTH REAR BEARINGS. I CAN HARDLY IMAGINE ONE BEARING GOING BAD ON A MODERN VEHICLE. BOTH BEARINGS TELLS ME SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE PRODUCT. I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A SIGNIFICANT AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM FOR ALL HONDA ODYSSEY'S ON THE ROAD. IT IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE REAR BEARING. I CONTACTED HONDA REGARDING THIS AND THE REPRESENTATIVE I SPOKE WITH SAID THERE WAS CURRENTLY NO RECALL REGARDING THIS. THEY WERE VERY POLITE AND PLEASANT TO DEAL WITH. WHEN THE INCIDENT FIRST OCCURRED THE VIBRATING WAS NOT AS SEVERE. NOW WHEN I AM GOING AT OVER 50MPH AND I START BRAKING, THE CAR'S STEERING WHEEL STARTS SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE ROTORS ARE WARPED PREMATURELY. MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME CAR HAVE THE ISSUE. I'M ELDERLY AND STRUGGLED WITH THE WEIGHT OF THE TAILGATE AS I CAUGHT IT. THE PASSENGER-SIDE STRUT COMPLETELY FAILED, LEAKING SOME KIND OF FLUID OUT OF IT AND THE DRIVER-SIDE STRUT IS ALSO LEAKING. THESE LEAKS AND FAILURES WERE SUDDEN AS I HAD RECENTLY WASHED THE VAN A DAY BEFORE AND DID NOT FIND ANY LEAKS WHEN I CLEANED THE TAILGATE. *JS
I WAS JUST ENTERING HIGHWAY VIA RAMP AND ACCELERATING TO MERGE. AS SOON AS THE SPEED HIT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH, IT SUDDENLY PUT THE BRAKE AND DROPPED THE SPEED TO ABOUT 40MPH. EVERY TIME I TRIED TO GO BEYOND THE SPEED, IT SUDDENLY PUT THE BRAKE. I COULD NOT GET THE SPEED TO GO BEYOND 55MPH. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND ALSO FOR THE OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME. I EVENTUALLY PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE KEY OFF TO WAIT FOR ABOUT 5MINUTES AND THEN I STARTED THE CAR. THAT TIME, NO PROBLEM. THE EXACTLY SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED THREE OTHER TIMES RATHER RANDOMLY. EVERY TIME, I HAD TO PULL OVER AND WAIT FOR FEW MINUTES IT RESTART THE CAR. WHEN I MENTIONED IT TO ON THE PHONE TO HONDA SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR, HE JUST SAID THAT THE RECALL IS FOR PILOT ONLY AND THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE ODYSSEY HAVING THIS ISSUE. SO, I AM ADDING MY NAME TO THE LIST OF COMPLAINS WITH THE HOPE THAT HONDA TAKES THIS SERIOUSLY. THANKS. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOCK ACTUATOR BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION CAUSING THE DOORS TO LOCK AUTOMATICALLY AND FAILING TO UNLOCK WITH REMOTE. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE IS TO MANUALLY UNLOCK WITH THE KEY AND THE ONLY WAY TO FULLY LOCK THE VEHICLE IS TO PUSH DOWN ON DRIVER'S SIDE LOCK BUTTON (ON SUPERIOR PORTION OF DOOR). THIS FAILURE RESULTED IN MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN BEING LOCKED INSIDE A VEHICLE WITH THE KEYS INSIDE. AT THE TIME, THEY WERE TOO YOUNG TO UNBUCKLE THEMSELVES AND GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM BEGAN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER WHEN TEMPERATURES INSIDE A VEHICLE ARE DANGEROUSLY HIGH. WE WERE TOLD THE REPAIR WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $400. IN ADDITION TO THE INITIAL LOCKING OF THE VEHICLE, IT HAS POSED ADDITIONAL SAFETY HAZARDS AS PEOPLE MUST WAIT ON DRIVER TO MANUALLY OPEN DOOR, OR TO LOCK DOOR. SECURITY HAS BEEN GREATLY AFFECTED. IT IS DIFFICULT TO CORRAL CHILDREN WHILE TRYING TO UNLOCK VEHICLE AS WELL AS POSING SECURITY ISSUES WHEN IN UNSAVORY AREAS OF TOWN. GOING SOUTH ON HWY 5 FROM JUST OUTSIDE SACRAMENT, (BY FREEPORT) WE STRUCK SOMETHING NOT VISIBLE IN THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE WARNED US WE HAD A FLAT AND NOT TO EXCEED 50 MPH. OUR MINIVAN WAS EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN PAX SYSTEM RUN FLAT TIRES AND NO SPARE. WE PULLED OF THE HWY AT ELK GROVE AND CALLED THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER. IT WAS ALMOST 5PM AND THEY SAID COULD NOT HELP UNTIL TUESDAY. THE MANUAL SAID WE COULD GO 125 MILES WITH A FLAT TIRE AND OUR HOME WAS LESS THAN 60 MILES AWAY SO WE PUT ON THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 50 MPH ON HWY 5, THEN HWY 12 WEST, AND THEN HWY 160 SOUTH. JUST NORTH OF THE ANTIOCH BRIDGE THE FRONT LEFT TIRE SHREDDED AND WE WERE STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE FOR OVER AN HOUR UNTIL AAA PROVIDED ASSISTANCE. I CONTACTED MICHELIN AND HONDA ON TUESDAY FOLLOWING AND MICHELIN OFFERED TO PAY 30% OF THE COST OF A NEW TIRE BUT NOTHING TOWARDS THE COST OF REMOVING THE TIRE AND PUTTING A NEW ONE ON. HONDA OFFERED NOTHING. I REJECTED MICHELIN'S OFFER AND THEY RAISED IT TO 50 % AND I STILL REJECTED IT AND WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A TIRE STORE TO REPLACE ALL FOUR WHEELS AND TIRES BECAUSE WE FEEL THE RUN FLAT SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS. *TR
