EVEN AFTER REPAIR BREAK FEW TIIMES AND WHEN APPLY BREAK IS NOT STOP AS REQUIRED MANY TIME GIVE US DAM HARD TIME TO STOP IMMIDEATLY, AND STEARING IS GETTING HARD AND JAM EVEN UNDER WARRNTY REPLACED
THE HONDA ODYSSEY HAS A WELL KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH IT TRANSMISSION, INCLUDING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT THAT WAS WITHDRAWN BY THE PLAINTIFF FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON- (LIKELY SETTLED BY HONDA OUTSIDE OF THE CLASS IS MY GUESS), RELATED TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER THAT AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO IS UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND REPAIR. I CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER RELATIONS AT 310-783-2000 AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER AS THERE IS NO RECALL AND THEY VEHICLE BEING OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD.
THERE IS NO ACCIDENT. SEAT BELT (SHOULDER PORTION) IS FRAYING. NOT SURE IF THIS SEAT BELT IS SAFE OR IF THIS IS THE TYPE OF SAFETY ISSUE THAT NHTSA WANTS TO REVIEW. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THIS IS NOT A DEFECT AFFECTING OTHER HONDA VEHICLES.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS. AT TIMES, THERE ARE VERY SCARY SOUNDS COMING FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THIS IS GOING ON FOR A WHILE AND MY LOCAL DEALER REFUSED TO SERVICE IT UNDER THE WARRANTY.
I NEVER HAD ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH MY VAN UP UNTIL THIS POINT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF FROM TIME TO TIME AND I TOOK IT IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK EACH TIME AND IT WAS THE SAME CODE FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER. MY CAR RAN WELL AND THEN SUDDENLY, WHILE TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL ON A CITY STREET, THE MUFFLER BEGAN SMOKING WHEN I WOULD EITHER IDLE OR DRIVE. IT ONLY DID THIS THE NIGHT BEFORE I BROUGHT IT INTO THE SHOP AND THE DAY OF. IT WOULD HESITATE ALSO. I FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE AT ANY MINUTE, SO I TOOK MY KIDS TO SCHOOL AND BROUGHT IT TO THE SHOP IMMEDIATELY. THE MECHANIC THEN TOLD ME I DID NOT HAVE A DROP OF OIL. THIS SEEMED STRANGE BECAUSE I HAD NEVER SEEN A LEAK (I PARK IN THE SAME PLACE AT MY HOUSE). HE TESTED MY CAR FOR A LEAK AND DID NOT DETECT ANY. SOME PEOPLE SUGGESTED THAT THE OIL CHANGE PLACE FORGOT TO PUT OIL IN MY CAR. THAT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY SINCE I HAD JUST GONE TO HAVE MY OIL TOPPED OFF ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE. I HAD ALSO DRIVEN IT FOR ABOUT 2500 MILES SINCE THEN. BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF WARNING, I HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENGINE...IT IS SHOT.
WHEELS FURNISHED ON TOURING MODEL VAN WILL ONLY ACCEPT MIICHELIN PAX TIRES AND CAN ONLY BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED BY A HONDA A FACTORY DEALER - IF YOU ARE NOT NEAR A HONDA DEALER AND YOUR TIRES BLOW OUT AND NEED FIXING YOU ARE STUCK
MY 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH TODAY BECAUSE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES IT DID NOT WANT TO STOP. MY PEDAL WAS TO THE FLOOR BUT MY VAN DID NOT STOP. I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 25 MPH BUT HAD NO STOPPING POWER. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON A FEW OTHER OCCASION BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PAST RECALL.
THE TAILGATE STRUTS ON MY 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY FAILED ON 3/7/2016. WHEN I OPEN THE LIFTGATE ON OUR VAN NOW, THE STRUTS THAT CAUSE THE LIFTGATE TO OPEN EASILY ARE NOT WORKING. THIS MEANS YOU HAVE TO RAISE THE TAILGATE MANUALLY AND USE A STICK OF SOME KIND TO KEEP THE TAILGATE OPEN. I FOUND THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED AROUND 2012 FOR LIFTGATE PROBLEMS ON THE 2008-2009 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE INFORMATION I FOUND SAID THAT THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN FOR THIS RECALL HAS THE ID: #12V062000 MY ODYSSEY'S VIN NUMBER DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. SINCE I AM AFFECTED BY THE SAME PROBLEM IDENTIFIED IN THE RECALL, I'D LIKE FOR THE RECALL TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MY VIN SO WE CAN BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IN DRIVE WITH BRAKE APPLIED, ON A CITY STREET AT A RED LIGHT, DRY CONDITIONS. SUDDEN, UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION/REVING/ENGINE SURGE OCCURRED--WITH SUCH FORCE THAT I INITIALLY THOUGHT I'D BEEN REAR-ENDED. I APPLIED PRESSURE TO BRAKES AND PUT CAR IN PARK. FOR A MOMENT, IT SEEMED AS IF THE BRAKES FAILED--NOT SURE. SURGE CONTINUED FOR A NUMBER OF SECONDS, THEN SUBSIDED. HAD CAR TOWED. MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, NO EVIDENCE OF EVENT IN COMPUTER HISTORY. I KNOW I DID NOT HIT BRAKES AND GAS SIMULTANEOUSLY, AND BESIDES, HONDA SAYS THERE'S A BUILT IN SAFETY DEVICE THAT LIMITS SURGE TO 30%--THIS WAS MORE MARKED. NO RUG PAD UNDER GAS PEDAL EITHER. EXPERIENCED DRIVER WITH IMPECCABLE RECORD.
ONLY THE DRIVER WINDOW OPENS. WHEN TRYING TO OPEN THE PASSENGER SIDE OR THE TWO BACK WINDOWS I ONLY HEAR A CLICK AND NOTHING HAPPENS. THE SECURITY LOCK SWITCH IS NOT ENGAGED. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH SEAMS TO BE THE "MASTER WINDOW SWITCH." IT COSTS ABOUT $200 FOR PARTS PLUS THE LABOR COST.
PERSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM SINCE THE 2010 VSA/ABS MODULATOR RECALL. THEY SYSTEM CONTINUES TO HAVE A SOFT PEDAL WHICH REQUIRES PUMPUNG THE PEDAL TO GET EFFECTIVE BRAKING, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOP DISTANCES. THE SYSTEM REQUIRES PERIODIC BLEEDING OF THE BRAKES DESPITE REPEATED ASSURANCES FROM HONDA DEALERS THAT THE SYSTEM IS/WAS FIXED CORRECTLY UNDER THE RECALL. THE VSA MODULATOR HAS NOW FAILED AND HONDA IS QUOTING OVER $1,600 TO REPAIR THE SYSTEM DESPITE ONGOING SERVICE DOCUMENTATION ILLUSTRATING THE SYSTEM APPARENTLY WAS NOT FIXED UNDER THE RECALL - AT LEAST NOT EFFECTIVELY.
MY ENGINE IS USING OIL. IT USED 1 QUART OF OIL IN 2,826 MILES OF DRIVING AND 1/2 QUART IN THE NEXT 580 MILES. THE RATE OF OIL USE IS INCREASING. HONDA SAYS THESE ENGINES ARE PASSING OIL THRU THE RINGS ON 4 OF THE 6 CYLINDERS. HONDA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON OR ENGINE STARTS MISSING. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CHECK THE OIL LEVEL TO MAKE SURE IT IS NOT TO LOW. ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THERE ARE MANY ODYSSEYS DOING THIS. HONDA SOLD THIS VAN TO ME WITHOUT BEING TOLD OF THIS PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER I BOUGHT THIS VAN. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THESE ENGINES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
I AM HAVING CONDENSATION OF WATER COLLECT AND FILLING UP THE LEFT BACK UP LIGHT OF THE TAIL LIGHT
WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55 MILES PER HOUR AND MY CAR STARTED BARKING WITHOUT ME PRESSING THE BRAKES. I PULLED OVER AND STARTED AGAIN. IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES WITHIN A TEN MINUTE PERIOD. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VSA BUT HONDA FAILED TO NOTIFY ME. I WAS ALMOST HIT THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED.
LIFTGATE STRUTS LEAKED GAS AND NOW LIFTGATE OF HONDA ODYSSEY IS HARD TO OPEN AND WILL NOT STAY UP.
THE POWER LIFT GATE STRUTS (?) STOPPED WORKING CAUSING THE LIFT GATE TO COLLAPSE ON MY HEAD CAUSING A SMALL CUT. AFTER THEY STOPPED WORKING, THE LIFT GATE WOULD NOT POWER LIFT OR STAY OPEN UNLESS YOU MANUALLY HELD IT OPEN. MY 2005 ODYSSEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT WAS FIXED WITH A RECALL.
REAR LIFTGATE PISTONS / LIFT SUPPORT PISTONS FAILING. HATCH CLOSES BY ITS SELF, HITTING / TRAPPING / CATCHING PERSON IN TRUNK AREA. HATCH VERY HEAVY! KEEP CHILDREN AWAY!
THE AUTOMATIC SIDE DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE OPERATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE POWER TO THE DOOR WAS TURNED OFF SO THAT IT COULD BE OPERATED MANUALLY. THE DOOR CAME OFF IN HAND DURING NORMAL OPERATION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE THE DOOR, EXCEPT FOR THE LOWER CONNECTION WITH THE ELECTRONICS. IT TOOK A MECHANIC, WITH HELP, ABOUT ONE HOUR TO CLOSE THE DOOR, WHICH IS NOW COMPLETELY NON-OPERATIONAL. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED, ANECDOTALLY, BY SEVERAL PEOPLE, INCLUDING A BODY SHOP OWNER, THAT THIS (AUTOMATED DOORS COMING OFF THE VEHICLE IN NORMAL OPERATION) IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA ODYSSEY VEHICLES. IT OBVIOUSLY MAKES THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE UNSAFE UNTIL THE DOOR CAN BE SECURED, AND THE USE OF THE DOOR IS THEN PROHIBITED.
REAR DOOR'S STRUTS DOES NOT WORK. THE HATCHBACK REAR DOOR SLAMS SHUT AND DOES NOT HOLD. THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING STRUT DEFECT IN 2012. THE RECALLED ODYSSEYS WERE MANUFACTURED IN ALABAMA FACTORY WHERE OUR CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. JUST WONDER WHY OUR VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ANOTHER DRIVER FAILED TO YIELD AND CRASHED INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE SPUN SEVERAL TIMES AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DELAYED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE NECK, BACK, ARMS, AND LEGS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000...UPDATED 09-29-15 *BF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN MANUALLY NOR AUTOMATICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000.
THE CAR HAS LARGE CHUNKS OF PAINT PEELING FROM THE ROOF AND TAILGATE.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DTCS P3400 AND P3497 READ. NO OIL ON THE DIPSTICK. TOOK IT TO SUSSMAN HONDA WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE REAR ROCKER. I POINTED THEM TO TSB 11-033 BUT THEY SAID IT DIDN'T APPLY TO MY CAR. CALLED AMERICAN HONDA CO. AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING. I FILED A COMPLAINT. ONLY LATER DID I DISCOVER TSB 13-031, WHICH SUSSMAN FOLLOWED BUT DID NOT READ THE DIAGNOSIS SECTION SINCE THE OIL LEVEL WAS BELOW THE DIPSTICK. ALMOST EXACTLY 3 MONTHS AND 4,000 MILES LATER CEL LIGHT COMES ON WITH DTCS P3400 AND P3497 AND OIL LEVEL IS BELOW THE DIPSTICK, THIS TIME THE CAR IS STARTING TO VIBRATE. AHC STILL CLAIMS THIS IS NOT A DESIGN FLAW AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. WE ARE NOW BEING TOLD BY ANOTHER DEALER THAT BURNING OIL IS NORMAL FOR THE "PRE-08 HONDAS WITH VCM" AND THAT WE SHOULD CHECK IT REGULARLY. WHILE I APPRECIATE THE HONESTY, I WISH THAT HONDA WOULD ADMIT THE ENGINEERING ISSUE AND FIX IT ONCE FOR ALL. USING THIS MUCH OIL CAN'T BE GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!
THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHEN DRIVING.PLEASE ADVISE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DOOR COLLAPSED AND SLAMMED SHUT. THE SHOCKS ON THE HATCH FAILED TO KEEP THE HATCH DOOR UP. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SHOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

CAR LOST POWER ON EXPRESSWAY, FUEL GAUGE READ 3/4 FULL, CAR WAS EMPTY. FUEL PUMP IS BEING REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A BRICK WALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, BUT FAILED TO INFLATE PROPERLY CAUSING THE CONTACT TO SUSTAIN SERIOUS INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
WE OWN A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY EX THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE, AS IT HAS BEEN DISCOVERED THAT THE POWER LIFT GATE CAN FAIL AS THE STRUTS ARE LEAKING PRESSURIZED GAS. THE REASON THE RECALL COME TO OUR ATTENTION IN THE FIRST PLACE IS BECAUSE THE POWER LIFT GATE ON OUR VEHICLE HAS FAILED AND HAS INJURED AN EMPLOYEE. UPON OUR OWN RESEARCH, WE ENTERED OUR VIN NUMBER INTO YOUR DATABASE TO CHECK FOR ANY RECALL NOTIFICATIONS, AND THE WEBSITE STATED OUR VIN NUMBER WAS INVALID. HOWEVER, WHEN SEARCHING ON YOUR WEBSITE FOR RECALLS FOR THE 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY, IT IS CLEAR THAT A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON 2/16/2012 WITH A NHTSA RECALL NUMBER OF 12V-062. WE THEN CONTACTED THE WHERE WE HAD PURCHASED OUR VEHICLE. THEY DENIED ANY RECALL FOR THE POWER LIFT GATE ISSUE AND FAILED TO HELP US RESOLVE THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG FUEL ODOR WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD. I HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL TO AVOID HITTING A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
THE BATTERY DRAINS OVERNIGHT MAKING IT SO THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE JUMPED THE NEXT MORNING. WHEN JUMPING THE VEHICLE, A BIT OF STEAM IS EMITTED FROM THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD "JET ENGINE" OR "TV STATIC" SOUND. ONCE JUMPED, THE CAR WILL START THROUGHOUT THE DAY. HOWEVER, SOMETHING OVERNIGHT IS CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN. WHEN WE WENT DOWN HILL ON FREEWAY 5 AT LOS ANGELES AND BAKER FIELD COUNTY , CA. THE CAR STARTED SHAKING WITH THE SOUND LIKE DRIVING ON THE DEEP AND BUMP ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL TURNING LEFT AND RIGHT VIGOROUSLY WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY SLIGHTLY BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN THE SPEED OF THE CAR. THIRD ROW SEATS DO NOT LATCH PROPERLY WHEN CONVERTING FROM STOW AWAY POSITION TO UPRIGHT SEATING POSITION. ONE MUST ALIGN THE LATCHING MECHANISM REQUIRING ONE TO FIRST LIFT THE SEAT FROM THE REAR, THEN MOVE TO THE FRONT OF THE SEAT IN THE CABIN AND PHYSICALLY ALIGN THE LATCHING MECHANISM. THIS PROCEDURE IS DONE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN MOTION. THIS DEFICIENCY WAS FIRST NOTICED WITH PASSENGERS SEATED AND THE VEHICLE IN MOTION AS INERTIA CAUSED THE SEAT TO ROCK BACKWARDS UPON ACCELERATION. THIS IS CLEARLY NOT THE DESIGN INTENTION. THIS OCCURS EVERYTIME THE SEAT IS CONVERTED. THE DATE ON THIS FORM IS NOT APPLICABLE.
TIRES WITH TRACTION RATING A, TEMPERATURE RATING B, AND WEAR RATING 740 WITH MILEAGE WARRANTY OF 80,000 MILES HAD TO BE REPLACED AFTER ONLY 38,407 MILES. TIRES HAD POOR TRACTION AND TREAD ON OUTSIDE OF TIRES WAS WORN TO 2/32", BUT NOT ON INSIDE. TIRES WERE ALWAYS KEPT AT RECOMMENDED PRESSURE, ROTATED REGULARLY, KEPT BALANCED AND VEHICLE ALIGNMENT WAS KEPT IN GOOD STANDING. TIRE DEALER RECOMMENDED KEEPING THE TIRES AT 40 PSI FOR MORE EVEN TIRE WEAR AND TO MAKE THE TIRES LAST LONGER, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE RECOMMENDS THE TIRES BE AT 33 PSI (FRONT) AND 35 PSI (REAR) FOR COLD WEATHER. *TR

PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD BUT THE TIRES NEVER SQUEALED ON THE DRY PAYMENT. I PURCHASED THIS 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY IN 2011, WITH APPROXIMATELY 45,000 MILES ON IT. DURING THE WINTER OF 2013, I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE GROANING (AND SOMETIMES "HUMMING") NOISES FROM THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. ADDITIONALLY, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS. I ASSUMED THE VEHICLE WAS LOW ON FLUIDS SO WITH EVERY OIL CHANGE (AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP) , I INSISTED THE POWER STEERING FLUID BE FILLED. THE HONDA DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY ANY NOISES. HOWEVER, LAST NIGHT ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK AT APPROXIMATELY 10PM, THE NOISE RE-APPEARS. THE STEERING ISSUE IS NOW FOLLOWING THE NOISE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN A SAFETY ISSUE IN OPERATING THE VEHICLE. I KNOW I SHARE THESE CONCERNS WITH OTHER HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS AND OUR COMPLAINTS ARE FALLING ON DEAF EARS WITH THE DEALERS. I REALLY WANT TO SEE THESE CONCERNS ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LIFT GATE ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS OPENED, BUT FAILED TO REMAIN OPEN. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. ON 09/07/14, WAS INVOLVED IN A 4 CAR ACCIDENT. TRAVELING WESTBOUND ON ROUTE 60, NEAR I605, LIGHT TRAFFIC AT APPROX. 3:45 PM. # 1 LANE WAS CLOSING, DUE TO FWY WORK/MAINTENANCE. SAW SIGNS AND PROCEEDED TO MOVE FROM THE #1 LANE TO THE #2 LANE, WHILE IN THE #2 LANE NOTICED THE FLASHING ARROW FOR THE LANE CLOSURE. I ESTIMATE I SLOWED TO ABOUT 60 MPH, SINCE TRAFFIC WAS MERGING, CAR IN FRONT WAS APPROX. 6-7 CARS LENGTHS AHEAD, WHEN I SAW BRAKE LIGHTS FROM THE CAR AHEAD OF ME AND THEY HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WHICH APPEARED TO BE FROM AN ACCIDENT. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES HARD TO STOP, BUT COULD NOT STOP IN TIME. ENDED UP HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FROM LIGHTLY, MAYBE ABOUT 5-10 MPH AT TIME OF IMPACT. BASED UPON THE DISTANCE FROM THE CAR AHEAD, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP OUR VEHICLE. DID NOT FEEL LIKE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WAS WORKING, FELT NO PULSATING OR PUSH BACK IN THE PEDAL AND CAR APPEARED TO SKID/SLIDE INTO THE CAR AHEAD. I FOUND A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES, WHICH STATED THAT AIR CAN ENTER THE SYSTEM AND AFFECT THE VEHICLE BRAKING SYSTEM. NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICE FROM HONDA ABOUT THIS AND I BELIEVE THE FAULTY BRAKE SYSTEM WAS A FACTOR IN OUR AVOIDABLE INCIDENT. 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY (ABOUT 5.5 YEARS OLD, 90,000 MILES). DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, WHEN A LOUD EXPLOSION OCCURRED. CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE SIMILAR TO WHEN THE EXHAUST COMES OFF. LOSS IN ACCELERATION AND SPEED. STALLED SHORTLY AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER. DIAGNOSIS WAS - COIL AND SPARK PLUG HEAD "EXPLODED" ON CYLINDER #2. SOME PARTS FELL IN AND THE INSIDE OF CYLINDER WAS SCORED. ENGINE WAS CONSIDERED NON-REPAIRABLE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HAD ENGINE REPLACED AT THE LOCAL DEALER. COST OVER $5,000. HONDA REFUSES TO MAKE ANY AMENDS, OR OFFER ANY COMPENSATION. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE FIRST SERVICE ON THIS ENGINE IS DUE AT 105,000 MILES. THE CAR IS 5.5 YEARS OLD WITH ABOUT 90,000 MILES. THIS IS A FACTORY SEALED ENGINE. THE CAR HAS BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP.
AUTOPARK HONDA REPLACED DRIVE SHAFTS BECAUSE THERE WAS A POPPING SOUND COMING WHILE SLOW TURNS. I DROVE AWAY AND WITHIN 2 MILES, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF METALLIC NOISE COMING FROM THE CAR AND I NEARLY LOST TOTAL CONTROL OF THE CAR. I COULD BREAK I THINK. BUT STEERING AND ENGINE POWER WERE DANGEROUSLY AFFECTED. ME AND MY KIDS WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I SUSPECT THE PARTS USED WERE NOT OF PROPER QUALITY OR THE WORKMANSHIP WAS POOR. I CAN'T DECIDE. ON OCTOBER 22, 2013, HONDA AMERICA AGREED TO SETTLE THE CLASS-ACTION SUIT. AS PART OF THE SETTLEMENT, HONDA EXTENDED THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY ON THESE MODELS FOR EIGHT YEARS FROM THE TIME OF PURCHASE OR LEASE WITH NO MILEAGE LIMITS.
