TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HINGES FAILED CAUSING THE LIFT GATE TO CLOSE UNEXPECTEDLY. AS A RESULT, THE LIFT GATE FAILED TO REMAIN OPEN AND FELL ON THE CONTACT'S HEAD AND NECK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V062000 (STRUCTURE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. UPDATED 9/4/14*CN
ROLLERS ON SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE THE DOOR. ONE ROLLER POPPED OUT OF DOOR AND LOOKED DAMAGED. IT MAKES A GRINDING NOISE WHEN TRYING TO MOVE. *TR
ON APPROXIMATELY 7/1, I WAS DRIVING HOME. THE CAR WOULDN'T SWITCH GEARS AND LOST A BIT OF POWER. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE DOWN AN INTERSTATE DURING RUSH HOUR AT APPROX. 40 MILES PER HOUR. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO A FRIENDS HOUSE. THE NEXT DAY, I DROVE IT TO HONDAMAN, A CERTIFIED HONDA REPAIR SHOP, THEY DID A VALVE ADJUSTMENT. THE VALVE ADJUSTMENT DIDN'T WORK. THERE WAS A CLICKING, VIBRATING, KNOCKING NOISE AT 2800RPMS WHILE THE CAR WAS IN PARK (METAL ON METAL NOISE) AND THEN WHEN DRIVING. REPLACED THE TIMING BELT AND TENSIONER AS RECOMMENDED, THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. DID ANOTHER VALVE ADJUSTMENT (ACCORDING TO THE TSB) AND THAT DID NOT WORK. RECOMMENDATIONS WAS THAT THE ENGINE BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. AT NO POINT EVER DID THE CAR HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, LOW OIL LIGHT, OR ANY OTHER SIGNS OF PROBLEMS. I TOOK THE CAR TO BROWN'S HONDA, THEY RECOMMENDED A CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT, VALVE REPLACEMENT AND CAMSHAFT REPLACEMENT. THE ITEMS HAD SHOWN METAL ON METAL WEAR. THE SHOPS AND BASED ON RESEARCH, THIS A SIGN OF NO LUBRICATION. THEY SHOP TOLD ME THAT THIS HAPPENS AND IT IS A FLUKE. I ALSO NOTIFIED THEM THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS TSBS ON MY CAR AND IF I MOVE FORWARD WITH THE FRONT CAM REPLACEMENT, I AM WORRIED THAT SINCE THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE IDENTIFIED, THAT THE REAR CAM AND PISTONS' OR CAMSHAFT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I DID HAVE MY OIL PAN AND OIL PLUG REPLACED 2 YEARS AGO AND AFTER RESEARCHING MORE ABOUT MY CAR, FOUND THAT THIS WAS A DEFECT IN THE MODEL I PURCHASED. I ALSO CALLED THE MISFIRE SETTLEMENT AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT SINCE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES SHOWED UP, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO EXTEND MY WARRANTY. SINCE THE NOTIFICATIONS ONLY OCCUR DUE TO EMISSION ISSUES, THE CAR ENGINE WOULD HAVE BLOWN UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH NO WARNING. I HAD ALL MAINTENANCE WITH HONDA AND TRULY SCARED THAT THIS WILL EFFECT OTHER BUYERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO THE PARK POSITION OR STEERED TO LEFT OR RIGHT, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL POPPING SOUND. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID THE VEHICLE HAD AN ERROR CODE OF P3400 AND TO IMMEDIATELY FILL IT WITH OIL AND TAKE IT TO HONDA DEALER. DID THAT AND DISCOVERED CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT COVERED REPAIR. JEFF WYLER HONDA CLAIMS TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE'S ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON AGAIN 6 MONTHS LATER WITH SAME ERROR CODE P3400. TOLD BY JEFF WYLER HONDA ON COLERAIN AVENUE THAT VEHICLE IS FINE DESPITE HAVING LOST 2 QUARTS OF OIL IN LESS THAN 1000 MILES. DEALER TELLS US THAT IT IS "PERFECTLY NORMAL" FOR HONDA VEHICLES TO USE 1 QUART OF OIL PER 1000 MILES, AND THAT THIS IS TRUE OF THEIR ENTIRE FLEET INCLUDING 2014 AND 2015 VEHICLES. HONDA USA AND HONDA DEALER ARE UNWILLING TO LOOK AT VEHICLE ANY FURTHER AND TELL US THAT WE WILL JUST HAVE TO PUT OIL IN IT EACH TIME WE FILL THE VEHICLE WITH GAS, AND THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE. SO NOW, WE HAVE A MINIVAN MEANT TO TRANSPORT OUR FAMILY ABOUT TOWN THAT WE WILL HAVE TO FILL WITH OIL EACH AND EVERY TIME WE GO TO USE IT. DEALER ADMITS THAT THERE ARE NO LEAKS, AND THAT THE VAN HAS BEEN KEPT IN FINE RUNNING CONDITION BY US. *TR

WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT, THE CAR ACCELERATES AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS SURGING. I APPLY THE BRAKES AND SHIFT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK TO STOP THE ACCELERATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, I'M AFRAID OF REAR ENDING ANOTHER CAR. HONDA CLAIMS THERE IS NO PROBLEM. *TR
REAR GATE SUPPORTS COMPLETELY FAILED. I WAS VACUUMING THE BACK INTERIOR OF THE VAN AT THE TIME. REAR GATE COLLAPSED ON MY BACK, INJURING MY BACK. NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VSA WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE 60,000 MILE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE MECHANIC THAT A PRESSURE SENSOR IN THE CONTROL UNIT (PART NUMBER: 6601) HAD FAILED, WHICH RESULTED IN THE VSA MODULATOR NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT HER VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V500000 (ELECTRICAL) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER INSTALLED AND UPDATED THE YAW RATE SENSOR UNDER THE RECALL BUT DID NOT PERFORM THE CALIBRATION. THE VSA WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE AND THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE YAW RATE SENSOR COULD NOT BE CALIBRATED WITH THE SYSTEM UNTIL THE VSA MODULATOR WAS REPLACED AT HER EXPENSE. THE VSA MODULATOR WAS NOT REPLACED. THERE WAS A SECOND RECALL INITIATED PRIOR TO THE RECENT RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V098000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR) WHICH INVOLVED REPAIRS TO THE VSA MODULATOR BY REMOVING ANY EXISTING AIR IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM, FOLLOWED BY THE APPLICATION OF SEALANT AND CAPS TO PREVENT AIR FROM ENTERING THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN PERTAINING TO THE VSA MODULATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE TAILGATE STRUTS BROKE WHILE THE TAILGATE WAS OPEN, STRIKING ME IN MY BACK. I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY, BUT MINE IS NOT INCLUDED AND I WAS GIVEN NO VALID REASON AS TO WHY, ONLY THAT IT WAS SPECIFIC VIN'S AND MINE WAS NOT IN THE BUNCH THAT WAS RECALLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STABILITY ASSIST MODULATOR SENSOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STABILITY ASSIST MODULATOR SENSOR AND THE BRAKE PRESSURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,177.
THE LIFT GATE STRUTS THAT SUPPORT THE REAR DOOR FAILED WITH OUT ANY INDICATION THEY WERE GETTING WEAK. THEY WERE WORKING FINE EARLIER IN THE DAY. BUT WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE HATCH IN THE EVENING IT WAS VERY HEAVY AN WOULD NOT STAY OPEN, UNTIL I SUPPORTED IT WITH A MAKE SHIFT POLE. I REPLACED THE STRUTS WITH AN AFTER MARKET VERSION, BUT WONDER IF OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR FAILURES, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE HATCH WAS OPEN. *TR
THE PAINT HAS BEEN PEELING AND FLAKING FOR YEARS NOW AND IT GOT WORSE NOW. THE CLEAR COAT IS NO LONGER THERE. THERE'S A RECALL FOR THE BLUE COLOR, BUT NOT THE OTHERS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THERE. PAINT IS PAINT. COLOR IS DIFFERENT ONLY WHEN THE COLOR PIGMENT IS ADDED. IS THERE A RECALL FOR BLUE, IT SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR ALL OTHERS. I BELIEVE THE COLOR (WHITE) OF MY VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE PERIOD AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL FOR IT. THANKS.
THE LIFTGATE STRUTS FAILED SUDDENLY AND NO LONGER SUPPORT THE HEAVY DOOR. THERE WAS NO GRADUAL DETERIORATION. OURS IS A MANUAL VERSION - NOT POWERED AND FOR SOME REASON ISN'T COVERED BY THE RECALL 12V062000, EVEN THOUGH IT USES THE SAME PART THAT WAS DETERMINED TO BE DEFECTIVE IN THAT INVESTIGATION - NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : PE11034. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT FAILED AT UNACCEPTABLE RATE AND THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FROM MANUAL LIFTGATES IS HIGHER THAN THOSE OF THE POWERED LIFTGATES. THIS IS AT LEAST AS DANGEROUS AS A POWERED LIFTGATE SITUATION, ESPECIALLY FOR MY WIFE AND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN. THE INVESTIGATION AND RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO COVER ALL MODELS USING THIS PART, NOT JUST THE POWERED DOORS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FLAMES EMITTED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND EVENTUALLY ENGULFED THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED WHO DETERMINED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED AND CAUSED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I TRIED TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH DOOR TO PUT SOMETHING IN. THE DOOR WAS EXTREMELY HEAVY AND WOULD NOT STAY UP AND OPEN. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY BEFORE IT CRASHED DOWN ON ME. I WAS NOT HURT, BUT I COULD HAVE BEEN. NOW I AM UNABLE TO ACCESS BACK PORTION OF VEHICLE. I DON'T HAVE A PLACE TO PUT GROCERIES OR WHEN WE TRAVEL, I HAVE NO PLACE TO PUT LUGGAGE. THE HYDRAULIC FAILED. WHY WAS THERE NOT A RECALL ON MY MODEL, WHEN THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON OTHER MODELS OF SAME YEAR? *TR
RE: TAILGATE/ STRUT FAILURE I WAS OUT SHOPPING AND AT MY LAST STOP THE TAILGATE WAS SUDDENLY VERY HARD TO OPEN. I HAD A LARGE CART OF GROCERIES AND IT WAS RAINING, SO I RAISED IT UP WITH ONE HAND, BUT WHEN I TURNED TO GET MORE GROCERIES, I EXPECTED IT TO STAY AND IT DROPPED DOWN. FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT HAVE MY CHILDREN WITH ME, SO I COULD PUT THE REST OF THE GROCERIES IN THE SEAT AREA AND DEAL WITH IT LATER. IT HAS NOT RESOLVED, SO IT WAS NOT A "RAIN" ISSUE. IN THE WEEK THAT HAS PASSED, I HAVE DONE SOME OF RESEARCH. I'M HAVING A HARD TIME FIGURING OUT WHICH MODELS ARE BY THE OFFICIAL NOTICES. THEY QUOTED ME $276 TO FIX IT. I HAVE DISCOVERED THIS IS VERY EASY TO FIX - $50 FOR THE STRUTS, A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER, AND LADDER TO PROP OPEN THE TAILGATE AND EVEN A 115 LB WOMAN CAN FIX THEM. HOWEVER, WHY AREN'T ALL 2008 HONDA ODYSSEYS IN THIS RECALL? HAD MY CHILDREN BEEN HELPING ME OR HAD I BEEN HALF IN THE VAN WHEN THE STRUTS SUDDENLY FAILED, ANY OF US COULD HAVE BEEN BADLY INJURED OR KILLED BY THE DEAD WEIGHT OF THAT DOOR. FOR NOW I WILL ORDER THE STRUTS AND FIX THEM AS SOON AS I CAN SINCE I REALLY DON'T HAVE TIME TO DUKE IT OUT WITH HONDA. *TR
WHEN BRAKING, EVEN PRESS THE BRAKE VERY HARD, THE CAR IS MAKING SQUEAKING NOISE, AND IT WILL NOT STOP. HAD TO RELEASE AND PRESS THE BRAKE THREE TIMES, TO FINALLY STOP THE CAR. GOOD THING WE WERE DOING ONLY 20MPH. *TR
ME AND MY 3 CHILDREN PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY. AS MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER GOT OUT OF THE VAN (LIKE EVERY OTHER DAY) SHE WENT TO PULL CLOSE THE DRIVERS SIDE BACK SLIDING DOOR. WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE DOOR FELL OFF. COMPLETELY OFF!! THANK GOD SHE WAS NOT SMASHED BY THE DOOR, BECAUSE I LEARNED AFTER, IT IS NOT LIGHT! WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SUGGESTED I DRIVE IT UP TO GET LOOKED AT!!! DRIVE, WITHOUT A DOOR AND 3 KIDS!? NO WAY!! ALSO, THEIR RESPONSE WHEN I TOLD THEM THE DOOR FELL OFF (I WAS SHOCKED) WAS "OH YEA, THAT HAPPENS SOMETIMES WITH MINIVANS"! IF I KNEW THAT, I WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN ONE! HOW IS THAT SAFE AT ALL?!? AND THEY ESTIMATED AROUND $400 TO FIX IT!! AFTER CALLING MY STEP DAD OVER, WE FIGURED OUT WHAT PART WAS NEEDED AND GOT THE PIECE OURSELVES. IT WORKED FOR A WHILE AND ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, BOTH SLIDING DOORS NOW WON'T LATCH ALL THE WAY. ONE OF TWO OF THE LATCHES (BOTH THE BACK ONES) WON'T LATCH. ONE MY DASHBOARD, IT CONSTANTLY SHOWS BOTH DOORS ARE OPEN. I HAVE TO KEEP THE LIGHT SWITCHED TO "OFF" INSTEAD OF "DOOR", OTHERWISE, THE LIGHTS STAY ON AND BATTERY DIES. THIS IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND AS I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 3, I DO NOT HAVE MUCH TIME NOR MONEY TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED RIGHT AWAY!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:12V062000 (STRUCTURE) DUE TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER STATING THAT THE FAILURE WAS ONLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE POWER LIFT GATE MODELS. THE CONTACTS STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE AS THE POWER LIFT GATE AND ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE TRUNK LIFT (FROM AN OPEN POSITION) OF OUR 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L UNEXPECTEDLY FELL ON TOP OF MY WIFE'S HEAD WHILE SHE WAS USING THE TRUNK AREA. HER INJURY WAS NOT SERIOUS, AND CONSEQUENTLY WE DETERMINED THE FAILURE WAS THE GAS STRUTS THAT ASSIST IN OPENING AND CLOSING THE HATCH. HONDA ALREADY HAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE FOR POWERED LIFTGATE FOR 2008-9 MODELS, BUT IT DOESN'T INCLUDE MANUAL OPENING ODYSSEYS, CLAIMING THAT A DEGRADED STRUT IN A MANUAL LIFTGATE WILL BE NOTICEABLE. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE FOR US. CONSIDERING ODYSSEYS ARE BUILT FOR FAMILIES, I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SINCE MY OLDER CHILDREN FREQUENTLY OPERATE THE TAILGATES WITHOUT OUR HELP. SINCE THE REASON FOR THE LIFTGATE FAILURE IS THE SAME FOR MANUAL AND POWERED LIFTGATES, HONDA SHOULD EXTEND THE RECALL (OR AT LEAST A NOTIFICATION) TO ALL 2008-9 ODYSSEY OWNERS. JUST BECAUSE WE DIDN'T PURCHASE THE TOP OF THE LINE ODYSSEY, OUR SAFETY SHOULDN'T BE ANY LESS THAN THE TOURING OWNERS. *TR
STARTING IN THE SPRING OF 2014, THE PAINT STARTED COMING OFF ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND NOW THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE ROOF IS COMING OFF. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,116.
I OPENED THE REAR LIFT GATE OF THE VAN. THE STRUTS THAT HOLD THE GATE OPEN FAILED AND HIT MY SON IN THE HEAD. MY VAN HAS A MANUAL LIFT GATE AND DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL OF 2008 VANS WITH AUTOMATIC LIFTS WHERE THE GAS WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE STRUTS AND CAUSING A SIMILAR FAILURE. I REQUEST THE NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE OF THE MANUAL LIFT GATE AND REQUIRE HONDA TO FIX THIS EQUIPMENT FAILURE. I FEEL THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED IN A VEHICLE ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. THE CAR ALARM HORN GOING OFF FOR NO REASON AT 2 AM IN THE MORNING. HIT THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE REMOTE AND ALARM STOPPED. WHEN DAYLIGHT, FOUND DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS NOT LOCKED BUT ALL THE OTHER DOORS WERE LOCKED. THEN ANOTHER INCIDENT IN A WEEK, 4 AM THE CAR ALARM HORN GOING AGAIN. SHUT IT OFF WITH REMOTE. WITHIN 5 MINUTES THE CAR ALARM HORN WENT OFF AGAIN. SHUT IT OFF WITH REMOTE AND WENT OUTSIDE, OPENED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WITH KEY. THEN LOCKED ALL THE DOORS WITH MANUAL SWITCH ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL AND CLOSED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE VEHICLE, WHILE A 2008 MODEL HAS LESS THAN 27,000 MILES. WE WERE ACCELERATING ON A MAIN ROAD AND WE GOT UP TO ABOUT 25 MPH AND THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY BRAKED BY ITSELF AND WE CAME TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP WITH NO CONTROL. MY HUSBAND, MYSELF AND MY 3 CHILDREN (AGES 7, 4, AND 1) WERE COMING HOME FROM THE PHILLIES GAME AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30 PM SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2013. UPON ENTERING THE ON RAMP FOR A MAJOR ROADWAY, MY HUSBAND BEGAN ACCELERATING TO APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. HE HAD HIS FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, WHEN THE VAN BRAKED SPONTANEOUSLY. IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, OUR SPEED DECREASED FROM 50 TO 25-30. OUR SEATBELTS ALL LOCKED AS WE WERE LUNGED FORWARD. THERE WAS A CAR DIRECTLY BEHIND US, WHO HAD TO SWERVE INTO ANOTHER LANE TO AVOID REAR ENDING US. IT WAS AS IF SOMEONE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES, HOWEVER NO ONE DID. THIS HAPPEN 3 OR 4 MORE TIMES WITHIN A 5-7 MINUTE TIME FRAME, SO WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I IMMEDIATELY GOOGLED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION FOR 2007 AND 2008 ODYSSEYS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I READ THAT THIS HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE VEHICLE STABILITY SYSTEM, SO WE PRESSED THE VSA OFF BUTTON AND DROVE HOME AT A SPEED OF 30 MPH IN CASE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. NO FURTHER SPONTANEOUS BRAKING OCCURRED ONCE THE VSA WAS OFF. I TOOK THE CAR INTO HAMILTON HONDA THIS MORNING AND SPOKE TO SERVICE MANAGER. THEY ARE CURRENTLY EVALUATING THE VAN. IN FEBRUARY 2008, I PURCHASED A NEW HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN FOR MY FAMILY. IN THE SPRING OF 2010, I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM: AFTER MAKING A TURN (RIGHT OR LEFT),DURING ACCELERATION, THE ODYSSEY'S BRAKES WILL AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGE, IMMEDIATELY SLOWING THE VAN DOWN. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE DECELERATES FROM 55MPH TO 20MPH IN SECONDS, ENGAGING THE SHOULDER HARNESS OF OUR SEAT-BELTS. OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS, THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST SEVEN TO TEN TIMES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND IN VARIOUS SEASONS OF THE YEAR. I HAVE RETURNED THE VAN TO HONDA AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. BECAUSE AN INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON AND BECAUSE THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, OUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT HONDA TELLS US THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IN NOVEMBER 2012, HOWEVER, THE COMPUTER REGISTERED A VSA CODE AFTER ONE OF SEVERAL BRAKING INCIDENTS. HONDA THEN REPLACED THE VSA MODULE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THAT SEEMED TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO, WHEN WE HAD YET ANOTHER SUDDEN HALT WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. WHEN MY WIFE TOOK THE VAN TO HONDA, THE YOUNG SERVICE MAN BLAMED THE VSA MALFUNCTION ON TIRE WEAR AND THEN TRIED TO SELL HER A NEW SET OF TIRES. HONDA DID RE-CALIBRATE THE VSA AGAIN DURING THIS VISIT. TODAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2013 THE BRAKES LOCKED DOWN AGAIN, THIS TIME, WHEN ACCELERATING AT A SLOWER SPEED. IT HAS BEEN VERY FRUSTRATING TO DEAL WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF OUR HONDA DEALERSHIP. I HAVE READ ONLINE OF IDENTICAL INCIDENTS. HAVING EXPERIENCED THIS SUDDEN BRAKING, THERE WILL BE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS IF HONDA DOES NOT SEEK TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. *JS

MY CAR HAS BEEN AUTOMATICALLY BRAKING AS I WAS ACCELERATING. AFTER I LET OFF THE GAS, THE BRAKING STOPPED, BUT AS SOON AS I STEPPED ON THE GAS, IT BRAKED AGAIN, ALMOST CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ME TO REAR-END ME. I WAS VERY AWARE THAT MY FOOT WAS ONLY ON THE GAS PEDAL - I AM ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT MY FOOT WAS NOT TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL. EVEN MY WIFE WHO WAS WATCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL NOTICED THAT IT WAS MOVING TOWARDS THE FLOOR WITHOUT TOUCHING IT. THIS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND SLOWLY EXIT A SIDE STREET. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND THE PROCEEDED BACK TO THE ROAD WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL ISSUE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND AS I MENTIONED, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO BOTH MY WIFE AND I SEVERAL TIMES OF THE LAST FEW YEARS THAT WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED, I BELIEVE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND HONDA DID NOTHING TO RECTIFY THE ISSUE. NOW WE ARE STUCK WITH A DANGEROUS ISSUE. THE APPLIED BRAKING ISN'T SUBTLE - INSTEAD IT IS A VERY DRAMATIC "SLAMMING" EFFECT WHILE THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. I NOTICED THAT HONDA HAS RECALLED OTHER VEHICLE MODELS AND YEARS FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT - PLEASE DEMAND A RECALL SO WE DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE OUR DANGEROUS MINIVAN ANYMORE.
