Repair shop did not perform alignment requested on 2001 Hyundai Accent. One reason was: "Cradle is rusted through" Similar recalls exist for Hyundai Elantra (similar design) and Sonata (engine cradle) for same model year. This represents a dangerous condition. Vehicle is operated in Wisconsin, where roads are salted in winter.
MY MECHANIC TOLD ME IN APRIL 2020 MY 2001 HYUNDAI ACCENT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE SUB FRAME HAS DECAYED UP TO WERE IT CONNECTS TO THE BODY UNDERNEATH. *TR
BOTH CONTROL ARMS AND DRIVERS SIDE OF SUB FRAME COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2001-2003 ELANTRA AND TIBERON, YET NOT THE ACCENT? SOMEBODY ISN'T DOING THEIR JOB!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ACCENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO NOTICED EXTENSIVE RUSTING ON THE BRAKE LINES AND WAS DETERIORATING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND IT WAS NOTICED THAT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE RUST AND CORROSION NEAR THE FRONT OF THE FRAMING NEAR THE FRONT WHEELS AND THE MOTOR MOUNT. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
FRONT SUB FRAME IS SEVERELY CORRODED BETWEEN DRIVERS LOWER CONTROL ARM AND SUB FRAME MOUNT AT RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT. CORROSION HAS CREATED A HOLE ON EACH SIDE OF THE FRAME RAIL THAT WILL ALLOW FOR PASSAGE OF AN OBJECT SIMILAR IN SIZE TO A DECK OF CARDS. PASSENGER SIDE IS SIMILARLY CORRODED. FRONT SUB FRAME REPLACEMENT WILL BE NECESSARY IN ORDER MAINTAIN SAFE VEHICLE OPERATION. THE DEGREE OF FRONT SUB FRAME CORROSION IS NOT IN LINE WITH THE CONDITION OF THE BALANCE OF THE VEHICLE. BALANCE OF THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS MINIMAL CORROSION. *TR

CONSUMER STATES AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DESTROYING THE WINDSHIELD AND SEIZING THE SEAT BELTS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER TWO MONTHS OF PHONE CALLS, HYUNDAI FINALLY RESPONDED AND CLAIMED THE SYSTEM DETECTED AN IMPACT AND NO ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED AND THE MATTER WAS CLOSED. *JB
MY FAMILY WAS DRIVING OUR 2001 HYUNDAI ACCENT IN WHICH ANOTHER VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH OURS EXCEPT THE DASH BOARD AIR BAGS DIDN'T INFLATE. AFTERWARDS WITHIN TWO WEEKS I STOPPED AT THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND ASKED WHO SHOULD I INQUIRE WHY THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND I DID SEND AN EMAIL TO THE ADDRESS THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED BUT HAVE HEARD NOTHING. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER GOT BANGED UP BUT ARE OKAY NOW. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ACCENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER WAS ENGAGED AND WHEN HE SHUT OFF THE DEFROSTER, THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A LARGE HOLE IN THE REAR WINDOW WITH SMALL WEB0LIKE FRACTURES SURROUNDING THE HOLE. THE WINDOW THEN DISINTEGRATED AND FELL IN THE REAR SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,955.
APPROXIMATELY 3000 MILES AFTER HAVING A 60,000 MILE SERVICE INVOLVING REPLACEMENT OF ALL BELTS, INCLUDING TIMING BELT USING HIGH QUALITY BELTS OF KNOWN QUALITY, A HIGH VOLTAGE ARCHING CONDITION IS OBSERVED ON THE FACE OF THE HARMONIC BALANCER (HB). ARCH IS APPROX. .250-.500 INCH IN LENGTH AND PROJECTS FROM THE OUTERMOST EDGE OF THE HB TOWARD THE CENTER OF SAME. USING A JUMPER CABLE CONNECTED TO THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL, ARCH CAN BE PULLED FROM THE OUTER EDGE OF HARMONIC BALANCER, BUT NO OTHER PULLEY SURFACE NOR BELT SURFACE. CONDITION IS INTERMITTENT AND FORCED REPRODUCTION HAS NOT BEEN POSSIBLE, BUT OCCURS WITH SUFFICIENT FREQUENCY TO PERMIT TROUBLESHOOTING. CONDITION HAS NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY OBSERVED. AFTER EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSIS, IT APPEARS THE INSULATOR RUBBER BETWEEN MATING PARTS OF THE HB HAS DEGRADED RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE INTERNAL RESISTANCE WHICH RESULTS IN STATIC CHARGE GENERATED BY BELTS TO ESCAPE PULLEY INTERIOR, DISCHARGING OVER THE EXTERIOR SURFACE. UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS, THIS COULD RESULT IN AN EXPLOSIVE EVENT SHOULD A COMBUSTION FUEL BE PRESENT; THEREFORE THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. DEALER STATES NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS BEING AN ISSUE. REPLACEMENT HB ON ORDER AND IS EXPECTED IN ABOUT ONE WEEK. *TR

MY CLIENT WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN THE CAR HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING STRUCK A TELEPHONE POLE HEAD-ON AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM HAD NOT GIVEN ANY WARNING THAT IT WAS NOT WORKING AT ANY TIME BEFORE THE CRASH. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS 2001 HYUNDAI ACCENT. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH ON A VERY NICE DAY THE VEHICLE BEGAN DRIFTING ON THE ROAD. THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WENT OFF THE ROAD AND THE REAR TIRE WENT OFF THE ROAD AS WELL. THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN THE DRIVER LOST COMPLETE CONTROL. HE STATED THAT ONLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS STEERING CORRECTLY, THE OTHER TIRES WERE GOING SIDE TO SIDE. THE CONTACT COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND WAS REAR ENDED. HE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN SOME PICTURES, AND SAID THAT THERE WAS A BOLT THAT SHEARED OFF. THE RUBBER BUSHING WAS WIDE OPEN AND DEFORMED. THE CONTACT HAD A POLICE REPORT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 100,000. *AK

CAR WOULD NOT REVERSE, AND JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2-3RD GEAR. CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY SHOT, AND MUST BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF $2500. FOUND THAT WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE PRIOR CAR WOULD JOLT. *JB
DT: CONTACT STATES HIS CAR WAS LUNGING FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION DUE TO WARRANTY COVERAGE. THEY HAD THE CAR WITH 29,000 MILES THE POINT WHERE THEY WERE SAYING THE OIL SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED, AND DID NOT CHANGE THE OIL, EVEN THOUGH CONTACT HAD RECORDS INDICATING IT HAS BEEN CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES. CONTACT FELT DEALER WAS NEGLIGENT BY NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THERE WAS A PROBLEM AT THE BEGINNING.*AK THE CONSUMER EXPLAINED THAT THE DEALER DIDN'T RECOMMEND OR SUGGEST TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGES EVEN WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR ONE. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH CONSUMER SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND REAR-ENDED THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EXPRESSWAY. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE'S FRONT-END SUSTAINED DAMAGE. ALREADY BEING SERVICED AT A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. WILL RECEIVE A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE STALLED LIKE IT WAS OUT OF GAS. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED IT WAS DISCOVERED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. *JB
WENT ON A TRIP OUT OF THE STATE. I NOTICED THAT I WASN'T GETTING MY NORMAL MILEAGE. I FILLED MY GAS TANK WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION AND PARKED; AFTER AN HOUR, I NOTICED THAT A RIVER OF GASOLINE WAS COMING FROM MY TANK. AFTER BEING PARKED TWO DAYS, I HAD LOST OVER 2 1/2 GALLONS OF GAS, AND NOTED A DISTINCT BURNING SMELL COMING FROM MY EXHAUST PIPE DURING MY DRIVE HOME. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF ARRANGING FOR AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALER IN ORDER TO HAVE THE GAS TANK REPLACED OR REPAIRED.*AK

CONSUMER TURNED ON THE DEFOGGER AND AIR CONDITIONING MIXED IN WITH THE HEAT. THIS CAUSED THE WINDOW TO FOG UP. ALSO, POOR VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAD TO BE PULLED FROM THE VEHICLE AFTER IT CAUGHT FIRE. *PH THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND THE BRAKES WERE SQUEAKY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PLACED IN GEAR. THE COLLISION EXPERTS CONCLUDED THAT THE MUFFLER HAD OVERHEATED AND PERHAPS FAULTY HEAT SHIELDS HAD CAUSED AN IGNITION IN THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WHICH HAD OBVIOUSLY BEEN ACCELERATED WHEN THE VEHICLE'S DOOR WAS OPENED. UPON MERGING INTO THE HIGHWAY FROM A YIELD SIGN AT 30 MPH CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER DRIVER'S SIDE NOR PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK
CAR HAS SUDDEN JERKS CHANGING GEARS AND DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE ENOUGH POWER TRYING TO GET PAST 40MPH. HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES IN 2 WEEKS. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING INTERMITTENLY.*AK
I BOUGHT A HYUNDAI ACCENT 2001 NEW AT CAR PROS IN LACEY (NOW SOLD). ON THE INCIDENT DATE I HAD A FLAT TIRE FROM A SCREW IN TIRE AT CHURCH. A FRIEND CHANGED THE TIRE FOR ME AND PUT ON THE SPARE TIRE(LITTLE ONE). I NOTICED IT LOOKED VERY LOW. THEY TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE IT TO WORK SINCE I WORK A HALF-HOUR AWAY AND DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY (I-5). I WENT TO LES SCHWAB AND HAD THEM FIX THE FLAT TIRE & ASKED IF THEY WOULD LOOK AT THE SPARE ALSO. THEY TOLD ME THE SPARE ALREADY HAD A PLUG FROM A HOLE IN IT AND THAT THEY REPLACED THAT PLUG AND FILLED THE TIRE UP PROPERLY. HAD I BEEN ON THE FREEWAY I WOULD HAVE HAD ANOTHER FLAT AND BEEN STUCK OUT THERE. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS UPSET THAT THE NEW CAR I BOUGHT HAD A USED SPARE TIRE IN IT. SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, CAR PROS IN LACEY, WA WAS SOLD TO TITUS-WILL IN OLYMPIA, WA, SO I CALLED THEM TO ASK WHAT DO I DO TO GET A NEW SPARE TIRE. THE GENERAL MANAGER CALLED ME AND AFTER DISCUSSING THE MATTER HAD HIS STAFF TAKE MY CAR TO LES SCHWAB TO PUT A NEW SPARE TIRE IN THE CAR. I WONDER HOW MANY OTHER CARS WERE SOLD NEW WITH USED SPARE TIRES? IT ALSO MAKES YOU WONDER WERE THE TIRES ON THE CAR NEW OR OLD? THIS WAS MY FIRST NEW CAR AND DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE TO CHECK. *JB

LATELY I HAVE BEEN HEARING A TICKING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. *LA

VEHICLE'S HAD A HIGH IDLE, WHICH CAUSED UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION. DEALER HAS REPAIRED THE DEFECTIVE PART, BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK AFTER THE REPAIR, BOTH THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND THE PULSE GENERATOR HAD GONE BAD. DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO COVER PARTS BECAUSE THEY WERE OUT OF WARRANTY. FINALLY THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR THE PULSE GENERATOR TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER FEELS THE PRESCRIPTION OUTLINED IN THE RECALL WASN'T SUFFICIENT TO CORRECT THE EMISSIONS DEFECT. *PH *JB

I WAS GOING 60 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY, WHEN I TRIED SLOWING DOWN TO 50 MPH THE RPM'S KEPT GOING UP AS WELL AS THE SPEED. COULD NOT SLOW DOWN, PULLED OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE, HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE COMPLETELY, STILL DID NOT STOP, UNTIL I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THIS WAS AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOR A 15000 MILE MAINTENANCE. DEALER CLAIMED LATER THAT IT WAS DUE TO A SENSOR THAT WAS BURNED OUT. *JB

ALL WERE WARRANTY REPAIRS. THE IGNITION COIL WENT OUT FIRST. THEN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE BODY WAS JUST A MINOR THING, A RAIN RAIL CAME LOOSE, AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. FINALLY, THE CAR CAUGHT FIRE ON 09-02-03 AND IT IS TOTALLY. I ONLY HAD IT TWO YRS. AND IT ONLY HAD 31,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS A HISTORY OF STALLING OUT ON TRIPS OF 30 MILES OR MORE, IT WOULD RESTART SOON THOUGH. CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS.
