SEAT BELTS LOCK UP, AND AIR BAG LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON. DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN CONTACTED. TS. *AK
CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION AND THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. PH
NAR 2/10/2003. THE VEHICLE REQUIRED TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AFTER ONLY 32,000 MILES. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICE AT 29,566 THE MECHANIC NOTED THAT OIL WAS IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER HAD THE REPAIRS DONE BY A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO FOUND THAT THE BEARING ON THE TRANSFERSHAFT WAS FALLING APART, BURNING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WHICH CAUSED THE BROWN COLOR. THE LEFT FRONT WINDOW WOULD NOT ROLL UP. *JB
CAR CAN NOT COME OUT OF "P" (PARK) UNLESS WE STICK A LONG STICK IN THE "SHIFT LOCK OVERRIDE" HOLE NEXT TO SHIFTER, ALSO BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING, IMMEDIATELY POPS THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE WHENEVER BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. DT
POWER WINDOW REGULATOR WENT OUT ON PASSENGER SIDE, DRIVER SIDE, AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF EACH OTHER. DEALER REPLACED REAR DRIVER SIDE WITH THE LAST WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT.
THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED BY A TEENAGER AS IT WAS MARKETED AS INEXPENSIVE WITH THE BEST WARRANTY. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DEALER NOW SAYS THAT THE MODULE IS NO GOOD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $500. THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT AND ACUTALLY SAT IN OUR YARD FOR OVER A YEAR. HOW CAN SUCH AN IMPORTANT MODULE GO BAD SO QUICKLY! MR
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AT 40MPH. UPON IMPACT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. NLM *YD

SIGN OF CRACKING IS SHOWING ON FRONT AND REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRES ON A 2001, HYUNDAI, ELANTRA; ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, TIRE SIZE P195/60R14, DOT# HNBHBM8X389. DEALER/MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK MICHELIN XGT TIRES, TIRE STORE STATED THE 2 FRONT TIRES WOULD BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE IF THE CONSUMER PURCHASED 2 REAR TIRES, CONSUMER DECLINED. *SLC
THE VEHICLE STALLED WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN. DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM . *AK THE DEALER HAS DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND CRANK SENSOR. EACH TIME THE PROBLEM RECURRED SHORTLY AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE 2002. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE WIRING WHICH WAS COMPLETED BUT THE CONSUMER WONDERS IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE STALLING. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON 6/28/04 BECAUSE IT CONTINUES TO STALL. *NM
DURING A FRONT END CRASH SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO TOTAL THE CAR, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT PROPERLY DEPLOY. UPPER PART OF PLASTIC HOUSING DID NOT COME OFF, ALLOWING BAG TO ONLY COVER LOWER PART OF DRIVER'S BODY AND PERMITTING HEAD TO STRIKE STEERING WHEEL. FORTUNATELY, NO SERIOUS INJURY WAS SUSTAINED. *AK
TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE BECAUSE SEALS WERE BAD ON VEHICLE, AND TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING FLUID. HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THEN ON THE 20TH OF NOVEMBER VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP, AND THEN ON T 21ST OF NOVEMBER TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING AGAIN. TRANSMISSION WAS BEING REPLACED AGAIN. *AK
I T STARTED AROUND OCTOBER 25,2001,WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY.I WAS DRIVING IN 5TH GEAR AROUND 65 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE STICK JUMPED OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL BY ITS SELF, I LOOKED DOWN TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED,. THER E WAS NOTHING ATTACHED TO THE STICK, IN OTHER WORDS NOTHING WAS HANGING (NO GARBAGE BAG OR ANYTHING.THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 6 TIMES.THE CAR GROWLS AND I HAVE TO PUT IT BACK IN GEAR, NOW I'M ANERVOUS WRECK.I TOOK IT INTO THE THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM.IT HAS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES SINCE. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE PAST 40MPH OR TAKE THE EXPRESSWAY. IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE GEAR-SHIFT\GAS PEDAL\CLUTH, YOU CAN FEEL WHEN ITS GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE TH PEDAL MOVES UNDER YOUR FOOT AND THE SHIFT GEAR MOVES IF YOU PUT YOUR HAND ON IT.*AK
MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR RECALL WAS DONE IN OCTOBER OF 2001. VEHICLE KEEPS HESITATING, THEN STALLS AT 5-25 MPH. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER 7 TIMES, CANNOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. MR
2000 HYUNDAI, ELANTRA, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, TIRE SIZE 195/60R14, AT 14,000 MILES BOTH FRONT TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF TIRE BLISTERING, AT 16,900 MILES CONSUMER REPLACED THE LEFT REAR TIRE DUE TO A BLOWOUT.*AK *SLC
WHILE TRAVELING ON WET PAVEMENT, CONSUMER AND ANOTHER VEHICLE COLLIDED HEAD ON, CONSUMERS SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK, NOR DID THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY, CONSUMER SUSTAINED SEVERAL INJURIES AND HAD TO BE RUSHED INTO SURGERY. *SLC

DRIVER WAS GOING UNDER SPEED LIMIT (35) AND REAR-ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. DRIVER'S HEAD HIT STEERING WHEEL, NEITHER DRIVER NOR PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. POLICE AND PARAMEDICS EXPRESSED SURPRISE THAT THEY DID NOT.*AK
WHEN VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL CRASH AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. DRIVER'S AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY PROPERLY BY POPPING OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN, AND PASSENGER'S AIR BAG FAILED TO EVEN DEPLOY. DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR HEAD/ NECK, AND CHEST PAINS. *AK
THE PASSENGER WINDOW WILL NOT ROLL DOWN. THE SWITCH WENT OUT 2. DEALERSHIP REPLACED ONCE. THE HORN WAS BAD. THE CAR DOESN'T WANT TO SHIFT RIGHT. WENT THROUGH 3 TRANSMISSIONS. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT FINE. IT STILL DOESN'T WANT TO SHIFT RIGHT. IT DOESN'T WANT TO TAKE GAS. WANT TO GET RID OF CAR.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE STICKER ON THE WINDOW INDICATED A BETTER GAS MILEAGE THAN WHAT THE VEHICLE IS ACTUALLY GETTING, CONSUMER STATES OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE GET BETTER GAS MILEAGE ALSO. *SLC
I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON 4/22/01. MYCAR STRUCK A TELEPHONE POLE AT A SPEED OF 20-25 MPH AND SUSTAINED HEAVY FRONT END DAMAGE AND A BROKEN FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF ON EITHER SIDE. I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT AND WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THIS. I HAVE CONTACTED MY HYUNDAI DEALER AND THEY HAVE NOT RETURNED MY CALL AS OF YET.
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON IMPACT, HITTING A POLE AT 25 MPH. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, FORCING DRIVER INTO THE WINDSHIELD, AND DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES. *AK
BODYGUARD CORROSION PROTECTION DEVICE WAS INSTALLED BY CUTTER OF MAUI AT TIME OF PURCHASE. HYNDAI EXAMINED THE CAR AND SAID THAT THE BODYGUARD DEVICE HAD CAUSED THE FIRE. CUTTER MAINTAINED THAT IT DIDN'T CAUSE THE FIRE, BUT A FEW WEEKS AFTER THE FIRE, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CUTTER INDICATING THAT ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES HAD OCCURRED ON VEHICLES HAVING THE BODYGUARD DEVICE INSTALLED AND THAT THEY WOULD INSTALL A FUSE TO PREVENT THE FIRES. WHEN BUYERI RETURNED TO CUTTER WITH THE LETTER, THEY TRIED TO TAKE IT BACK FROM BUYER, CLAIMING THAT BODYGUARD DID NOT CAUSE THE FIRE.BUYER. *AK
RECALL 00V259001 REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON NOVEMBER 15TH, 2000. HOWEVER, IN MARCH OF 2001, ENGINE STARTED STALLING DURING NORMAL OPERATION WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE SIX TIMES, AND HAS BEEN UNABLE TO EFFECTIVELY REMEDY PROBLEM. ALSO, DURING COLDER WEATHER ENGINE WOULD SURGE AND CAUSE RPMS READING TO DRAMATICALLY INCREASE WHEN SHIFTING INTO SECOND GEAR. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / ATTACHMENTS.*AK
INTERMITTENTLY / BUT FREQUENTLY, VEHICLE STALLS, USUALLY AT A STOP POSITION AND CONTINUALLY WHILE TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED OF 25 MPH OR LESS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN DEALER SHOP ON FOUR OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM STILL OCCURRING. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER SHOP FOR FIFTH TIME. *AK CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 00V259001 AND DEALER REPLACED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED STALLING, A LITTLE OVER A YEAR LATER, VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING AND DEALER REPLACED THE AIR FLOW METER WHICH DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM, DEALER THEN REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WHICH ALSO DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM, CONSUMER TRADED IN VEHICLE BECAUSE STALLING COULD NOT BE FIXED. *SLC
RECALL 00V259001, CONSUMER NEVER RECEIVED RECALL LETTER, DEALER TOLD HER ABOUT RECALL ON 28 FEB 2001. VEHICLE HAD STALLED A FEW TIMES SINCE PURCHASE IN OCT 2000 RECALL PERFORMED ON 5 MAR 2001. *AK *SLC
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 40 MPH ON HIGHWAY AND VEHICLE WAS HESITATING/ CUTTING OFF AND ON. NO REVERSE AND NO FORWARD. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. *AK
A PROBLEM WITH THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR, IT BREAKS AND COMPUTER CANNOT SENSE IF CARBURETOR IS OPEN OR CLOSED. FUEL GETS INTO CARBURETOR, CAUSING VEHICLE TO SURGE FORWARD.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 15-20 MPH AND TRYING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP VEHICLE SLID ON ICE AND REAR ENDED A TRUCK. AIR BAGS DID NO DEPLOY EVEN THOUGH WHOLE FRONT END/HEADLIGHTS/ RADIATOR, AND BUMPER WERE TORN OFF. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL BECAUSE IT DID NOT HIT RIGHT SENSOR BUTTON.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35MPH ON A BRIDGE. BRIDGE ROADS WERE COVERED BY BLACK ICE, VEHICLE INVOLVED IN A COLLISION, AND DUAL AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THER WERE NO INJURIES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING GAS PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN DOWN POSITION, VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP, AND ACCELERATED UP TO SPEEDS OF 70 MPH. CONSUMER FELT SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS. *AK THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM HAS NOT REOCCURED. *YH
CONSUMER WAS INSIDE OF A PARKING LOT TRAVELING SPEED OF 10MPH AND SHE APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, WAS GOING INTO NEXT INTERSECTION. SHE PROCEEDED FORWARD, AND VEHICLE STALLED. SHE WAS HALFWAY THROUGH THE STREET AND ANOTHER VEHICLE VEERED INTO HER BECAUSE OF STALLING. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK *SLC
IGNITION LOCKED-UP AT FIRST INCIDENT, ONE WEEK AFTER VEHICLE WAS RETURNED, PROBLEM RESURFACED, VEHICLE RETURNED TO DEALER FOR FOUR DAYS. RECEIVED VEHICLE AFTER FIVE DAYS THIRD OCCURRENCE, VEHICLE IN DEALER FOR NEW IGNITION (SECOND TIME.).*AK
IN DECEMBER, 2000, WITH ONLY 5000 MILES ON THE CAR, THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP AND NEEDED TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. SINCE THEN, THE CAR HAS HAD NOTHING BUT TRANSMISSION TROUBLES. THE TRANSMISSION HAS GOTTEN STUCK IN 2ND GEAR WHILE OUT ON THE HIGH WAY. WHEN SLOWING DOWN, IT HAS SUDDENLY JERKED INTO FIRST GEAR, CAUSING THE CAR TO NOT ACCELERATE. IT HAS JERKED INTO 2ND GEAR, FEELING LIKE THE CAR HAS BEEN REAR ENDED. EACH TIME IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. PRESENTLY, AT 45,000 MILES, IT IS GETTING ANOTHER NEW TRANSMISSION.
RECEIVED RECALL 00V259001. CONTACTED DEALER. WAS INFORMED BY SERVICE MANAGER NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE FOR REPAIRING ENGINE STALLING. WOULD NEED TO WAIT APPROXIMATELY 3-4 WEEKS FOR PARTS. NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO ENGINE SOONER. *AK
DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR PER RECALL 00V-259, INSTEAD DEALER REROUTED THE SENSOR, CONSUMER FEELS DEALER DID NOT PERFORM THE REQUIRED RECALL WORK IN FULL. NLM
RECALL 00V259001. AFTER REPAIRS VEHICLE STARTED BUCKING. DEALER HAS INSPECTED VEHICLE, AND COULD NOT CORRECT PROBLEM. *AK THE VEHICLE WAS JERKING AND HESITATING BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE. *YH
CONSUMER CANNOT GET OUT THE VEHICLE FROM INSIDE ONCE IT HAS BEEN UNLOCKED. ROLLING THE WINDOW DOWN & USING THE KEY IS THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR.*AK

VEHICLE IS A PART OF RECALL 00V259001, ENGINE STALLING. DEALER DOES NOT HAVE PARTS TO REPAIR RECALL IN STOCK. CONSUMER HAS BEEN WAITING SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2000. *AK CONSUMER STATES FINALLY, AFTER 10 CALLS TO THE SERVICE FACILITY, THE PARTS WERE RECEIVED AND INSTALLED ON APRIL 24 2001. *SLC
VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V259001 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING). THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE REPAIR. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AND CAUSED HIM TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE ALSO LOST POWER STEERING ABILITY, AND EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE CONTACT HAS TO PLACE THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN RESTART IT IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE FUNCTIONAL. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, THE DEALER REPEATEDLY REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS AND POWER RELAY. SECONDLY, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, THE DEALER WOULD NOT ASSUME FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND IS WAITING FOR THEIR RESPONSE. AS OF JULY 18, 2008, THE CONTACT HAS NOT RECEIVED ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 30-35 MPH VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. ELANTRA HIT REAR CORNER OF A 1995, DODGE, PICKUP. ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE ELANTRA WAS GONE. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF FRONTAL AIR BAGS. *AK THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED AND THE OWNER SUSPECTS FACTORY DEFECT. *YH
AUTOMATIC SHOULDER BELT ON DRIVER'S SIDE LOCKS UP FOR NO APPARENT REASON. PART TO CORRECT PROBLEM IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 00V259001 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: WIRING) BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO LOCAL REPAIR SHOPS FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BUT NO FAILURE CODES WERE PRODUCED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER TOOK A COMPLAINT AND ADVISED TO THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
MICHELIN ALL SEASON STEEL BELTED TIRE (P195 60 R14) EXPERIENCED BLOWOUT, THE BLOWOUT CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASH INTO A CONCRETE DIVIDER, DURING THIS THE AIRBAG EXPERIENCED NO DEPLOYMENT, THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS BECAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. *SLC
INTERNAL BELT SEPARATION--OCCURRED FIRST TIME ON PASSENGER FRONT, NOW IT HAS OCCURRED ON PASSENGER REAR. I WILL BE REPLACING ALL FOUR TIRES WITH SOMETHING ELSE DUE TO THIS CONTINUED PROBLEM, FEAR OF WELL-BEING IN DANGER DUE TO DEFECT, AND THE FACTOR THAT THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT MANUFACTURE THESE TIRES ANY MORE.
