ENGINE START VIBRATING AT LOW SPEED
AIR BAG LIGHT WENT ON AND STAYED LIT AFTER STARTING CAR, BEGINING IN OCTOBER 2018. PROBLEM SEEMED INTERMITTENT; STAYED OFF AFTER START UP WHEN THERE WAS WEIGHT IN PASSENGER SEAT. TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND A DIAGNOSIS WAS RAN. CODES SHOWED EITHER THE BATTERY OR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR. HAD THE 3 1/2 YEAR OLD BATTERY REPLACED TO RULE THAT OUT. NO AIR BAG LIGHT ISSUE FOR ABOUT TEN DAYS, BUT PROBLEM BEGAN AGAIN. A FEW MORE WEEKS PASS AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AT ALL TIMES. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY WHEN THAT LIGHT IS ON. I WAS TOLD BY HYUNDI THAT AIR BAG PROBLEMS WOULD BE PAID BY THEM, BUT NOT FOR RELATED SENSOR ISSUES. SEEMS THE SENSOR IS EQUALLY AS DANGEROUS. NO AIR BAGS, ARE NO AIR BAGS. I BOUGHT THE CAR (USED) BECAUSE OF ITS HIGH SAFETY RATINGS FOR MY TWO TEENS TO DRIVE. I THINK ANY ITEM EFFECTING THE AIR BAGS SHOULD BE RECALLED ASAP. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESEARCH INTO THIS ISSUE.
ON 09/17/2018 I WOKE UP AROUND 5 AM TO FIND THE ELANTRA FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES IN THE FRONT END. IT WASN'T RUNNING, NOTHING LEFT ON, IT HAD NOT BEEN RUN FOR 4 HOURS SO THE ENGINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN COLD. NO DRIVABILITY PROBLEMS BEFORE. POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED, PUT THE FIRE OUT AND STATED THAT THEY SAW NOTHING SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THE FIRE AND THAT I SHOULD CHECK ON PROBLEMS WITH HYUNDAI. THIS CAR ONLY HAD 70000 MILES ON IT WITH A 10 YEAR 100000 MILE WARRANTEE .I WENT TO THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT. THIS CAR WAS COLD, PARKED, NOTHING ON, NO KEYS IN IT, I DON'T SEE ANY REASON IT SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THANK YOU.
A STEADY "EPS" LIGHT CAME ON MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2009. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ABOUT 9/2018. THERE WERE NO NOTICEABLE MALFUNCTIONS WHILE DRIVING. A FEW WEEKS LATER, HOWEVER, THE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, AND WHEN TRYING TO REVERSE FROM DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD AND I INITIALLY COULD NOT TURN IT. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE WHEEL AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. HOWEVER, A WEEK OF TWO LATER, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, THIS TIME FLASHING, AND THE STEERING WHEEL KIND OF GOT STUCK. I COULD HARDLY HANDLED IT. THAT SITUATION WAS VERY SCARY. THEN, THE LIGHT BECAME STEADY, AND I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE WHEEL WITHOUT DIFFICULTY. BUT LAST WEEK, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AND SAME THING HAPPENED -THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME TOO HARD TO TURN. ON 12/15/2018, I TOOK THE CAR TO HYUNDAI SERVICE AND A DIAGNOSIS WAS DONE (PAID $128.00 REFUNDABLE ONLY IF REPAIRS WERE NEEDED AND DONE AT THEIR SHOP). MY CAR HAS 79,909 MILES, BUT I TOLD IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS PAST 60K MILES). THE DIAGNOSIS WAS AN "INTERNAL FAILURE OF MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING MOTOR," WHICH WOULD COST $2,188.21 TO REPAIR. THIS CAR HAD BEEN RECALLED TWICE FOR POWER STEERING ISSUES (RECALL 127 ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SOFTWARE AND CAMPAIGN "ELANTRA AND SONATA STEERING COUPLING". IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONS ON 2009 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AND LATER MODELS, AS WELL AS OTHER HYUNDAI VEHICLES, WHICH HAD ALSO INVOLVED MALFUNCTIONS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS, LIFE-THREATENING MALFUNCTION, WHICH SHOULD BE PROMPTLY INVESTIGATED. I HOPE HYUNDAI AND BRAND/MAKER VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM ARE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BEFORE A LIFE IS LOST DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION.
STEERING MAKES CLICKING SOUNDS, WHEN MOVED FROM A CENTER POSITION, EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. STEERING SEEMS TO 'STICK' I.E. DOES NOT MOVE SMOOTHLY. THE CULPRIT IS A "STEERING COUPLING" MADE OUT OF PLASTIC THAT COUPLES THE STEERING MOTOR TO THE STEERING COLUMN. KNOWING THIS IS A DEFECT, HYUNDAI QUIETLY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON ITS REPLACEMENT TO 100,000 MILES. HOWEVER THEY DID NOT SEND OUT A NOTIFICATION LETTER TO VEHICLE OWNERS. MYSELF AND MANY OTHER HYUNDAI VEHICLE OWNERS ARE VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS WOULD LEAD TO LOOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING, LEADING TO ACCIDENTS AND LOSS OF LIFE. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE DESIGN, AND INCORRECT CHOICE OF COUPLING MATERIAL, WHICH IS BOUND TO GET WORN OFF OFTEN, SINCE IT IS A PLASTIC PART SITTING BETWEEN TWO METALLIC PARTS MOVING AGAINST EACH OTHER. THIS SHOULD BE A DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE FIXED REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE. INSTEAD NHTSA HAS APPARENTLY ALLOWED THE COMPANY TO JUST EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON FIXING THIS; SO IT DOESN'T NEED TO BEAR THE EXPENSES AS VEHICLES GO BEYOND 100,000 MILES. IT TAKES $400-$500 TO FIX MAINLY DUE TO LABOR EXPENSES, TO REPLACE A $5 PART WHICH IS HARD TO REACH. NHTSA HAS TO DO A BETTER JOB AT PROTECTING THE CONSUMERS AGAINST ISSUES WHICH ARE A RESULT OF DEFECTIVE DESIGN WHICH CAN LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AND LOSS OF LIFE. MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING LIGHT IS ON. AT FIRST IT WOULD FLASH AND HAS CAUSED MY CAR TO DRIVE SLOWLY TWICE. IT'S BEEN ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. I'VE BEEN TO MANY MECHANICS AND NONE OF THEM SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE RECALL IN 2016.
PASSENGER SIDE EXTERIOR HANDLE FELL OFF WHEN PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO OPEN DOOR TO MY CAR ON AUGUST 10, 2018. I OCCASIONALLY DRIVE MY 92 YEAR OLD COUSIN TO CHURCH OR DOCTOR VISITS AND SELDOM HAVE ANYONE ELSE IN THE CAR WITH ME. I NEED TO HELP BUCKLE IN AS WELL AS UNBUCKLE MY ELDER COUSIN. I SEE THIS BROKEN HANDLE AS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AS I AM 80 YEARS OLD AND NOT ABLE TO CRAWL AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE CAR TO OPEN THE DOOR WHEN THE HANDLE BREAKS. ELEVEN MONTHS AGO THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF IN MY HAND , THE REPAIR BILL WAS $125.00 AT THE LOCAL DEALER. MY CAR HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE IT. SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES MAY HAPPEN IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND OUTSIDE HELP CANNOT GET THE PASSENGER DOOR OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE BECAUSE THE HANDLE BREAKS OFF IN THEIR HAND. SO NOW IT WILL COST ME AGAIN TO REPLACE THE HANDLE AS I WAIT TO SEE WHICH HANDLE WILL FALL OFF NEXT! I HAVE CHOSEN MULTIPLE CARS OVER THE YEARS FOR MY SEVEN CHILDREN AND MYSELF AND NEVER BEFORE HAD A CAR DOOR HANDLE FALL OFF. PLEASE GIVE SERIOUS CONSIDERATION TO THIS PROBLEM AND DEMAND A RECALL FROM HYUNDAI SO THEY ARE REQUIRED TO FIX THIS CHEAP COMPONENT.
ESC SENSOR MALFUNCTION CAUSED ONE OR MORE BRAKES TO BE APPLIED AND THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN IN HEAVY FREEWAY TRAFFIC. ESC LAMP REMAINED ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I WAS REQUIRED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WITH A FOOT ON THE GAS TO KEEP THE CAR RUNNING. THIS PROBLEM IS THE SAME EXPLAINED IN A RECALL OF LATER MODELS, THE 2011-2012 MODELS, RECALL #137. MY YEAR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL BUT HAS THE SAME ISSUES.
AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASH STAYS ILLUMINATED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING AND IT SHOULD BE A RECALL.
ON 8/3/18, WHILE EXITING OFF HIGHWAY, I WAS STATIONARY AT A STOP LIGHT AT TOP OF RAMP. WHEN LIGHT CHANGED, I TRIED TO TO TURN LEFT, BUT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. IT WAS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN SO I THREW ON MY FLASHER TO HELP AVOID BEING REAR ENDED. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, 8/6 AND THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSTICS TESTS WHICH PULLED UP CODES RELATING TO MALFUNCTIONS TORQUE SENSOR, STEERING ANGLE SENSOR, EPS FAILURE, ECU FAILURE. AT LOW MILEAGE OF 32,485 MILES, THE DEALER RECOMMENDED I REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AND EPS DUE TO INTERNAL FAILURE. COMPUTER WAS UNABLE TO READ TORQUE TO ECM. I PROMPTLY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI USA TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING MAJOR MANUFACTURING DEFECTS WITH STEERING PARTS BREAKING, MALFUNCTIONS, AND RECALLS THAT HAVEN'T FIXED THE CRITICAL UNDERLYING PROBLEMS THAT RESURFACE. EPS MODULE RESET/REPLACEMENT DURING RECALL IN 2015 DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED, THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHY ARE MAJOR STEERING MALFUNCTIONS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE WITH HYUNDAI USA?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT SWERVED INTO THE SHOULDER LANE, TURNED OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL, AND ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY HANDBRAKE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SKIDDED AND CRASHED INTO A LIGHT POLE, AND STOPPED IN AN EMBANKMENT IN A HEAVY BRUSH WOODED AREA. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DETERMINATION OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA CASE #11488507. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,587. *TT UPDATED 01/31/18*JB
MY SON WAS DRIVING TO CHURCH ON A CITY STREET AND BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS HAD DEPLOYED AND SEAT BELTS STOPPED WORKING.
WHEN GOING AROUND CURVES MORE THAN 35 MPH THE CAR WILL START DECELERATING (AS IF IT'S BRAKING ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ME ENGAGING THE BRAKING SYSTEM)AND THE ESC LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON DASH. ALSO THE EXHAUST MAKES A POPPING NOISE AFTER ENGINE IS SHUT OFF WHICH CAUSE A POWERTRAIN ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS NOT ACCERRATING PROPERLY. I PERSONALLY KNOW SOMEONE THAT HAS THE SAME EXACT VEHICLE AND THAT CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES THE SAME ISSUE.
I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE JUNE 5TH AND I STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANYWHERE. DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS LEADING UP TO ACCIDENT ON OR ABOUT MAY 14, 2018, I NOTICED THE EPS LIGHT WAS LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD ON MAY 21, 2018 MY CAR WAS SERVICED BY __________ TO CORRECT RECALL #127- EPS MODULE FAILURE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE OTHER TWO RECALLS UNTIL THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT DAY! WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP THE CAR WAS FINE AND THE EPS LIGHT WAS NO LONGER LIT UP. ON MAY 25TH/26TH I NOTICED THAT THE EPS LIGHT WAS LIT UP AGAIN ON MY DASHBOARD. I CALLED _____________ TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT THIS AND THEY SIMPLY TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR BACK IN TO BE LOOKED AT. DATE, LOCATION AND DETAILS OF ACCIDENT ON TUESDAY, MAY 29TH, 2018 I WAS DRIVING IN THE VICINITY OF ______________. IT WAS AROUND 7:00 PM. I WAS THE LAST OF SEVERAL CARS IN MY LANE, OUR GREEN LIGHT WAS TURNING YELLOW SO I BEGAN TO REDUCE MY SPEED. I GLANCE DOWN THEN LOOK UP TO SEE THAT THE CAR AHEAD, A COUPLE OF FEET IN FRONT OF ME HAD COME TO A PREMATURE COMPLETE STOP. I TRIED TO CHANGE/SWITCH LANES BUT DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO STEER AND/OR TURN OR MOVE THE WHEEL. AS A RESULT, I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO FORCEFULLY HIT THE BRAKE AND CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP, STOPPING SHORT WHICH CAUSED ME TO BANG DIRECTLY INTO THE REAR END OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW THE EPS LIGHT IS STILL LIT AND I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR TO GET TO AND FROM WORK. I NOTIFIED HYUNDAI ABOUT THIS AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN BACK TO ME SINCE MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT ON JUNE 5TH AND THEY HAVE NOT OFFERED ME THE USE OF A LOANER CAR FOR THE TIME BEING. I WARNED THEM THAT I WAS AFRAID I WOULD HAVE ANOTHER ACCIDENT AND THEY ARE STILL NOT TAKING ACTION.
I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE EPS LIGHT WAS ON AND THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING. THIS STARTED HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. AT FIRST THEY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE AND IT WORKED FOR A WEEK. WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THEY SAID THAT I NEEDED A NEW STEERING COLUMN AT THE COST OF $2200.00. ON 8/1/2015, I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL ON THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. RECALL 127. SUPPOSEDLY, THIS PROBLEM WAS TAKEN CARE OF, BUT IT WAS JUST POSTPONED. I BELIEVE THE CURRENT INCIDENT IS RELATED TO THE RECALL. I WOULD LIKE HYUNDAI TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS THAT I FOUND IN THE INTERNET. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITH FORCE. IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. HOWEVER, WHEN THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE STEERING WHEEL REGAINED NORMAL FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JOE MACHENS HYUNDAI (1300 VANDIVER DRIVE, COLUMBIA, MO 65202, (573) 474-7400) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING MOTOR FAILED AND THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V100000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 182,000.
EPS LIGHT IS ON, I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO POWER STEERING. I ALMOST ENDED UP IN A WRECK BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO PROPERLY MAKE A TURN. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CONSUMER AFFAIRS SINCE MARCH 2018 AND NOT GETTING ANYWHERE, BUT A RESPONSE OF "WE HAVE FORWARDED YOUR COMPLAINT TO A CASE WORKER" I HAVE SERVERAL EMAILS I HAVE SENT AND MY CALL RECORD. I HAVE GONE TO A DEALERSHIP, THEY WANT TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AT OVER A $2,000 COST TO ME. THEN PROCEEDED IN TRYING TO SELL ME ANOTHER CAR. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HYUNDAI, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. I WORK FOR A KIA DEALERSHIP AND I UNDERSTAND RECALLS. IF I WERE TO RECEIVE A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY, IT WOULD NOT BE A GOOD RATING. I AM NOT PLEASED WITH HYUNDAI...THE RECALL WAS ONLY A REPROGRAMMING OF THE STEERING SOFTWARE...THAT DID NOT WORK FOR MY HYUNDAI. IF I DON"T GET SOME KIND OF RESOLVE IN THIS MATTER I WILL BE OBTAINING LEGAL COUNSEL. REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN (WHICH IS RECOMMENDED BY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP) SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE CAR UNTIL EPS (RED) AND ESC OFF (YELLOW) LIGHTS CAME ON WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED ONE EVENING, AND IN TURN THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN EARLIER IN THE DAY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. IT WAS PARKED FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES OR SO, AND WHEN IT WAS TURNED ON AGAIN THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL FELT LIKE IT WAS LOCKED. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE ERROR CODES C1260, C1604, AND C1513 WERE DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE STEERING ANGLE RE-CALIBRATION AND THE ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE, BUT THE ERRORS PERSISTED. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING COLUMN AND THE STOP LAMP SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THESE EXACT TWO PARTS WERE A SUBJECT OF TWO SEPARATE RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE (CAMPAIGNS # 110 AND 127) AND WERE REPAIRED/SERVICED IN 2015 AND THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. IT IS VERY STRANGE THAT BOTH OF THESE PARTS WOULD FAIL AGAIN WITHOUT ANY NOTICE, PARTICULARLY THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING COLUMN, CONSIDERING THAT THE CAR ONLY HAS 47000 MILES AND THIS PART WAS REPAIRED IN 2015.
POWER STEERING WILL FAIL, EPS LIGHT COMES ON. THIS STARTED AT ABOUT 90,000 MILES. TURN OFF CAR AND TURN BACK ON, IT WORKS FINE.
02/22/2018 "EPS" LIGHT CAME ON IN MY CAR AND NOW WHEN I DRIVE IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND I CAN SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE BACK IN 2015. DOES THAT STILL COVER MY CAR?
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT TODAY GOING ABOUT 20MPH WHEN MY CAR STARTED SPEEDING UP. I STARTED BRAKING, BUT THE ENGINE SEEMED TO JUST WANT TO GO. I WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN AND CARS WERE COMING SO I JUST TURNED OFF THE SWITCH AND IT STOPPED. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, IT SEEMED NORMAL AND I DROVE VERY CAREFULLY HOME. I HAVE 2009 ELANTRA, SEPTEMBER 2017 I NOTICED A LAG IN THE SHIFTING ALWAYS AT 25-32MPH MOST OF THE TIME I HAD TO REMOVE MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR TO MANUALLY SHIFT. WHETHER I 'MANUALLY SHIFTED' OR STAYED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THERE WOULD ALWAYS BE A HARD JERK DURING THE SHIFTING OF THAT GEAR. ON DEACCERERATION, THE CAR WOULD ALWAYS JERK ON THE DOWNSHIFT ALMOST ALWAYS AT THE SAME 25-32MPH. I HAD TO AVOID HIGHWAYS DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS OF MERGING DUE TO THE LACK OF ACCELERATION. I DECIDED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED AT A HYUNDAI DEALER. THE DAY I PICKED MY CAR UP, I COULDN'T DRIVE OVER PARKING LOT SPEEDS. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED SERVICE WARRANTY THROUGH AND MY TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A USED ELANTRA TRANSMISSION WITH 72,000MILES. THE CAR SHIFTED GREAT FOR FIRST 2MONTHS, NOW SECOND TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION. I HAVE NOT REACHED OUT TO SERVICE WARRANTY COMPANY AS IT WILL JUST BE A WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORT. I CAN'T AFFORD TO BE WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION FOR 5-7DAYS AND THEY DO NOT OFFER RENTAL OR LOANER CAR, JUST TO GET YET ANOTHER USED TRANSMISSION JUST TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REOCCUR. I WOULD LIKE HYUNDAI'S ASSISTANCE TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT WILL REDUCE SAFETY ISSUES AND PROLONG THE LIFE OF THE CAR.
IN SEPTEMBER 2017 MY VEHICLE'S AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON (DRIVER'S SIDE) AND I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, MADE AN APPOINTMENT, AND WHATEVER THEY DID CORRECTED THE PROBLEM UNTIL YESTERDAY WHEN THE SENSOR FLICKERED ON AND OFF DURING THE DAY AND EVENTUALLY STAYED ON. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP IF IT CAME ON AGAIN I WOULD REQUIRE A NEW DRIVERS FRONT IMPACT SENSOR, WHICH IS QUITE COSTLY. I DID NOTICE WHEN IT CAME ON THIS SECOND TIME I HAD BEEN ADJUSTING MY SEAT PRIOR TO STARTING THE CAR. IN AN ATTEMPT TO SEE IF THIS WAS SOMETHING I COULD CORRECT MYSELF (ONLINE) I NOTICED A COUPLE OF BLOGS THAT MENTIONED NHTSA.

DURING THE CRASH, THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND WAS DESTROYED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED HEAD TRAUMA, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
NEXEN N5000 SERIES TIRES. I HAD TWO WITH SIDE BUBBLES AND TWO THAT THE TREADS ARE SEPARATING FROM THE TIRES. IT LOOKS LIKE RETREADS. ONE TIRE WAS READY TO SEPARATE AT ANY MOMENT. I HAVE PICTURES OF ALL THE TIRES AND A DOCUMENT FROM THE AUTO REPAIR PLACE. LUCKILY, WE COULD THIS IN TIME BEFORE MY DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED DUE TO THESE TIRES.

CAR ACCILERATER GETS STUCK AND WILL ACCELERATE WHEN CAR IS FIRST STARTED, WHETHER STATIONARY OR IN MOTION. GAS PEDAL WILL STICK. SEEMS TO FUNCTION NORMALLY AFTER THE CAR HAS WARMED UP. I TAPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO SEE IF IT WOULD UN-STICK AND IT ACCELERATED AT VERY HIGH SPEED AND WAS STUCK UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. ACCELERATION DROPPED DOWN SLOWLY AFTER I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND LEFT IT IN PARK. RESUMED NORMALLY AFTER.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN HE ROAD ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR AND MY BAKES WENT OUT I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE IN SLOW MOVING AREA WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC. IF I HAD BEEN IN THE FREEWAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. DEALER SHOWED ME AND EXPLAINED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HYUNDAI HAD PUT A PLASTIC COVER OVER THE BRAKE LINE. AFTER YEARS OF SALT AND WINTER WEATHER THE ENCLOSURE OF THIS BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTING AWAY UNKNOWINGLY. MOISTURE, WET AND WINTER ELIMINATES WERE TRAPPED WITHIN THIS PLASTIC COVER CAUSING THE BRAKE LINE TO RUST. THE CAR IS NOW 8 YEARS OLD SO IT TOOK 8 YEARS FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. I FEAR THERE ARE MANY CARS IN THIS SITUATION AND THE DRIVERS DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. THE BRAKE LINE BROKE AT THE RUSTED AREA AND THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKED OUT CAUSING THE LOSS OF MY BRAKES. THE DEALER PERMANENTLY REMOVED THE PLASTIC COVER AND SEALED THE BRAKE LINE. THIS COVER SHOULD NOT BE COVERING THE BRAKE LINE, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURERS INTENTIONS WERE GOOD, BUT THIS WAS NOT A GOOD WAY TO PROTECT THE BAKE LINE FOR THOSE WHO LIVE INCLEMENT WINTER WEATHER. NOT ONLY WAS I AT RISK AND THIS COULD HAVE CAUSE A FATAL SITUATION FOR OTHERS. THIS REPAIR ALSO COST ME $400.00. PLEASE DO SOMETHING THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE MONEY COST, BUT THIS WAS A TERRIFYING SITUATION. I WAS ALSO VERY FORTUNATE THAT THERE WERE NO CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND I WAS MOVING SLOWLY. IN JANUARY 2017 I WAS INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT. I HIT ANOTHER CAR IN THE REAR AT 65 MPH. THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET INFORMATION FROM HYUNDIA FOR OVER TWO YEARS AND THEY WILL NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION THEY FINALLY LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE AND SAID THAT THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY BECAUSE IT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO DEPLOY IN THAT TYPE OF ACCIDENT .I ASSUME THERE IS A MANUFACTURE DESIGN PROBLEM. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AND A YOUNG GIRL CROSSED FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND I HIT HER DIELECTRIC IN THE REAR AT 65 MPH. HYUNDIA WOULD PROVIDE ME ANY DOCUMENTATION TO CONFIRM THERE ASSESSMENT I AM A TEXAS LICENSED INSURANCE APPRAISER AND HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE WITH ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION. THE RECALL WAS REPORTED ADDRESSED THROUGH SOFTWARE RESET/UPDATE AND EPS LIGHT WAS OFF WHEN I PICKED THE CAR BACK UP. EARLIER THIS MONTH THE EPS LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND I NOTED A BRIEF CLICKING/KNOCKING SOUND WITH TEMPORARY INCREASED RESISTANCE AS I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION BOTH WHILE MOVING OR AT A STOP. THE CAR WAS REASSESSED AT THE DEALERSHIP AUG 23RD, I WAS TOLD THAT AN "INTERNAL FAILURE OF STEERING COLUMN" HAD BEEN IDENTIFIED AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE FULL STEERING ASSEMBLY FOR AN ESTIMATED $2,244.40. I ASKED FOR FURTHER DETAILS REGARDING THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COUPLER NEEDS REPLACEMENT BUT ALSO THAT THE "HOLOGRAM SENSOR" HAS MALFUNCTIONED, NECESSITATING A FULL STEERING ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT, AND THAT THIS IS UNRELATED TO THE PREVIOUSLY SERVICED POWER STEERING RECALL. I HAVE NOT HAD THE REPAIR YET BUT AM WARNED THAT THE CAR IS AT RISK OF UNPREDICTABLE POWER STEERING FAILURE.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO WILSON HYUNDAI FOR THE RECALLS TO BE CORRECTED. I WAS ALSO HAVING ISSUES WITH AN AIR BAG LIGHT AND A CLICKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I RECEIVED A CALL TELLING ME MY STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE SENSORS TO A MODULE. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE SENSOR TO MY PASSENGER SEAT HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE SEAT. THEY WERE WANTING TO CHARGE ME OVER $6,000.00 TO REPAIR THESE TWO ISSUES. THERE ARE RECALLS ON BOTH OF THESE ISSUES: NHTSA 15V100000 ADDRESSES ISSUES WITH THE STEERING AND THE FIX DOES NOT INCLUDE OR REQUIRE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. THE SOLUTION FOR THIS RECALL IS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER. THIS DOES NOT ADDRESS THE CLICKING NOISE IN THE COLUMN WHERE A GEAR/COG DISINTEGRATES OVER TIME.... A $12.00 PART IS ESTIMATED TO COST OVER $500 IN LABOR TO REPLACE. THE ISSUE WITH THE AIR BAG MALFUNCTIONING IS ADDRESSED IN 2009 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AIR BAGS: FRONTAL: SENSOR/ CONTROL MODULE NHTSA CAMPAIGN #11V143000. I AM BEING TOLD THAT THIS ISSUE IS ONLY FOR CERTAIN 2007-2009 ELANTRAS MANUFACTURED BEFORE NOV 1, 2008. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED APRIL 30, 2009 SO THEY DONT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ADDRESSED IN RECALL. THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER, AND REMAINED IN THIS CONDITION UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION , WHICH WAS ABOUT ANOTHER 30 MINUTES WORTH OF DRIVING TIME. I IMAGINE THAT SOME YOUNGER/WEAKER DRIVERS MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO PHYSICALLY STEER THE CAR WHILE IN THIS CONDITION, BUT I WAS ABLE TO MANAGE. THE CAR WAS LEFT IN A PARKING LOT FOR ABOUT 8 HOURS, AT WHICH POINT UPON STARTING THE ENGINE, THE EPS WARNING LIGHT TURNED OFF AND POWER STEERING WAS AGAIN FULLY FUNCTIONAL. THE DEALERSHIP SAID MY CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN SERVICED FOR THE POWER STEERING RECALL 127, AND IT WOULD COST $120 TO INVESTIGATE. I DID NOT BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THIS DIAGNOSTIC. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, AND HAS NOT YET RECURRED.
I AM CONCERNED ABOUT WHY MY VIN WAS NOT PUT IN WITH THE RECENT RECALL OF THE ABS AND ESC AND HAS BEEN SHORTED OR DRAINED BATTERY AND MY VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF AND THE ELECTRICAL HAS CAUSED PROBLEMS WITH MY BREAK LIGHTS AT ONE POINT. I HAVE REPLACED MY ABS SENSORY 2 TIMES ALREADY AND THE LIGHT STILL APEARS.
THE ELECTRONIC STEERING DAMPENER WENT ON MY 2009 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT HAD BEEN UNDER RECALL BUT THEY ONLY DID A COMPUTER RESET. THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO MAKE A CLICKING NOISE. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE RUBBER PART HAD COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND HYUNDAI WOULD NOT COVER MY 2009 ELANTRA WITH ONLY 36000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS ONLY COVERED FOR 5 YEAR 50000 MILES. THE PICTURE SHOWS THE NEW PART ON THE LEFT AND ON THE RIGHT IS THE OLD PART. THE ACTUAL PART WAS $11.75 BUT LABOR COST 585.00 DUE TO THE ENTIRE FRONT INTERIOR OF THE CAR HAD TO BE REMOVED. I WOULD LIKE A REFUND.
