TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF SUDDENLY SHATTERED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,900. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA SE COUPE ON 13 APRIL 2013 (6300 MILES). ON 9 MAY 2013 (7000 MILES) I ENTERED CAR TO START IT AND BATTERY COMPLETELY DEAD. CALLED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY SENT SOMEONE TO JUMP IT. CAR STARTED AND TOOK IT TO MOTORWORLD WILKES-BARRE WHERE I HAD PURCHASED CAR. THEY TURNED CAR OFF AND WAITED 5 HOURS. CAR STARTED AGAIN AND THE MAN IN SERVICE TOLD ME THAT HE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING SINCE THE BATTERY WAS FINE AND HE DIDN'T SEE ANY ISSUE. IF I WANTED BATTERY OR SENSORS REPLACED, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR IT. I WAS TOLD IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, HAVE IT TOWED IN WITHOUT LETTING IT BE JUMP STARTED. ONLY DIAGNOSTIC DONE WAS CHECK OF BATTERY WHICH READ AS NO PROBLEM. ON 26 MAY 2013, (7400 MILES) AGAIN I WENT OUT TO START CAR AND AGAIN IT WOULD NOT START. AS I COULD NOT MISS WORK AND IT WAS MEMORIAL DAY WITH SERVICE DEPT AT DEALERSHIP CLOSED, HAD CAR JUMP STARTED AND WENT TO DEALERSHIP ON MY LUNCH BREAK. WHILE THERE, SALESMAN WHO SOLD ME CAR HAD ME TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC SETTING FOR HEADLAMPS. WHEN I DID THAT, IT ALSO CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS FOR BLUE TOOTH AND RADIO CONTROL TO NO LONGER FUNCTION. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS RECALL ON BRAKE STOP SWITCH? THAT WAS NOT APPARENTLY CORRECTED BEFORE SELLING ME THE CAR. THE CAR HAS ELECTRICAL WIRING ISSUES. IT DOESN'T TAKE AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER TO KNOW THAT THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS SHOULD NOT BE RUN THROUGH THE HEADLAMPS SWITCH AND THAT THE HEADLAMPS SWITCH IS FAULTY WHEN IT IS CAUSING A DRAIN OF BATTERY WHEN IT IS SET TO SHUT OFF LAMPS WHEN IGNITION TURNED OFF. TOMORROW THE 27 MAY 2013, I WILL BE BACK AT DEALERSHIP DEMANDING THIS IS REPAIRED OR THEY REPLACE THE CAR AS I HAVE OWNED IT APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS AND HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE 2 TIMES WITH 7400 TOTAL MILES ON CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWERVE UNCONTROLLABLY. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR SHOCK SUSPENSION WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH IN A DIM AREA, THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTING APPEARED TO BE DIMMER THAN NORMAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE POSED AS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE HE RESIDED IN A MOUNTAINOUS AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE CONTACT'S CONCERNS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000.

THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO COME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 400. *TR

NOTHING "HAPPENED" JUST NOTICED ONE DAY THAT THERE WAS A BUBBLE ON SIDEWALL OF FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. *TR
THIS IS CONCERNING THE SAME VEHICLE AS IN MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT: 10507443. WHILE DRIVING INTO WORK ON 4/8/13, I PUT THE FRONT AND REAR DEFOGGERS ON. LATER WHEN I WENT TO SWITCH THEM OFF, THEY WOULDN'T. I THOUGHT MAYBE THERE WAS A TIMER. I WAITED FIVE MINUTES AND THEN WAS ABLE TO SWITCH OFF THE REAR DEFOGGER. I STILL WAS UNABLE TO SWITCH OFF THE FRONT. I PUSHED ALL THE BOTTOMS TO SWITCH THE AIR POSITION AND EVEN TURNED THE ENTIRE A/C-HEATING SYSTEM OFF -THE DEFOGGER STUCK "ON" AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF UNTIL I SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN. I HAVE REPORTED BOTH THIS AND THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM, AND AM HOPING TO SCHEDULE MAINTENANCE WITHIN THE WEEK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INSTEAD OF BEING EQUIPPED WITH A SPARE TIRE, THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A REPAIR KIT. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A SPARE TIRE. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE FEATURE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE HE COULD EXPERIENCE A FAILURE WITH THE TIRE AND NOT BE ABLE TO GET TO A SERVICE STATION OR REPAIR FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE SPARE TIRE KIT WAS EQUIPPED ON THE VEHICLE BASED ON THEIR SPECIFIC POLICY. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 935. *TR
I JUST BOUGHT THE 2013 LIMITED HYUNDAI ELANTRA OVER THE EASTER WEEKEND, ON 3/31/13. TWO DAYS AFTER BUYING IT, I NOTICED THE LIGHT IN THE DASH SHOWING WHETHER THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON OR NOT WAS NO LONGER WORKING, BUT I PUT IT UP TO THE FACT I WAS DRIVING AT DAWN/DUSK AND THEY WERE PROBABLY NOT "ON" EVEN THOUGH THE DRIVING LIGHTS WERE ON AND SHOWING AS "ON". HOWEVER ON 4/6/13 WHEN DRIVING AT 10PM AT NIGHT WITH THE HEADLIGHTS MOST CERTAINLY "ON" THE INDICATOR LIGHT STILL DID NOT COME ON. *TR
MY WIFE WAS TRYING TO PARK HER CAR WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT HER TOUCHING THE GAS OR THE BRAKE. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP BY SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES. I'VE HEARD RECENT CASES OF PEOPLE NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP WHEN THIS HAPPENS. *TR
THEY CAR DRIVES FINE UNTIL YOU HIT A ANY SORT OF BUMP OR HOLE IN THE ROAD. WHEN THAT HAPPENS THE BACK END WIGGLES AND IN THE RAIN IT IS MUCH WORSE. IT IS EVEN WORSE ON THE HIGHWAY GOING AT A HIGHER SPEED. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH DRIVERS FACING SIMILAR ISSUES. I AM WORRIED THAT IT WILL ONE DAY LOSE CONTROL. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE I AM IN CONTROL OF THE CAR, I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAY EVERYTHING IS FINE AND THAT IS JUST HOW THE CAR DRIVES.
BRAKES GRIND (SOUNDS LIKE METAL ON METAL CONTACT) IF APPLIED GOING OVER 20MPH IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS HOWEVER IT IS WORSE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED ON A BUMPY ROAD. DEALER HAS NOT MADE ANY SERIOUS ATTEMPTS TO FIX ISSUE EXCEPT TELLING ME IT WAS THE HUMIDITY AND PUTTING LUBE ON BRAKES WHICH DID NOT WORK. *TR
PURCHASED CAR FROM LYNNE'S IN BLOOMFIELD, NJ ON THE 25TH OF MARCH 2013 FROM [XXX]. NOTICED THE STEERING WHEN I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY THAT NIGHT, BUT ASSUMED IT WAS A BREAK IN PERIOD FOR ME TO GET USE TO THE CAR, WELL ONE MONTH LATER I WAS CONSTANTLY ADJUSTING THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET THE CAR TO STAY IN THE LANE. I SPOKE TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANAGER ([XXX]) ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT, EARLIEST DATE JUNE 6TH , I REQUESTED A LOANER CAR BECAUSE ONCE THEY HAD THE CAR I HAD NO WAY OF GETTING TO WORK, I CALLED TWO DAYS PRIOR TO MY SERVICE DATE TO CONFIRM THAT THERE WOULD BE A LOANER AVAILABLE, I WAS TOLD IF THAT WAS THE ARRANGEMENT MADE ON MY SET UP DATE THEN THE LOANER WOULD BE THERE. ONE DAY PRIOR TO ME GOING TO SERVICE WITH THE CAR, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM LYNNES SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT NO LOANER WAS AVAILABLE, NO REASON WHY, IT JUST WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I TOOK THE CAR TO SANSONE HYUNDAI ON THE 18TH, MY RIGHT HAND WAS STARTING TO HURT FROM HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL SO TIGHT TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE CAR. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ([XXX]) THAT THE CAR HAD 60PSI ON ONE OF THE TIRES, AIR WAS CHECKED AND ADJUSTED ON ALL THE TIRES AND WAS TOLD TO GIVE IT A TRY NOW? NO CHANGE, I CALLED [XXX] (CUSTOMER SERVICE) AND TOLD HIM THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING WITH THE CAR, HE RECOMMENDED I COME BACK IN ON THE 24TH OF JUNE, DROPPED OFF THE CAR, AND RECEIVED A CALL THAT AFTERNOON THAT HE ([XXX]) DROVE THE CAR AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS, AND MAYBE THIS WAS NOT THE CAR FOR ME, AND THAT IF I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR FROM HIS DEALERSHIP, HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MOVE ME INTO ANOTHER CAR. I'VE BEEN DRIVING ALL TYPES OF VEHICLES FOR OVER 30 PLUS YEARS, SOME WITH BAD ALIGNMENTS AND NEVER HAVE I DRIVEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE, IT?S A DEATH TRAP! CAR CLAIMS IT HAS DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS, YET IT REALLY DOESN'T. YOU HAVE TO TURN ON THE PARKING LIGHTS FOR THE DRL TO ACTUALLY COME ON. SO THEN YOU HAVE THE PARKING LIGHTS ON FRONT, REAR TAILLIGHTS AS WELL AS THE DRL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I BELIEVE SOME STATES HAVE LAWS AGAINST RUNNING PARKING LIGHTS ON CLEAR DAYS? OTHER CARS I HAVE OWN, THE DRL COMES ON AUTOMATICALLY WHEN DRIVING. CALLED HYUNDAI AND DEALERSHIP, GOT THE BRUSH OFF AS THAT IS JUST THE WAY IT IS. ACTUALLY AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THAT A SOFTWARE CHANGE MADE IN MID 2012 IS WHAT DID THIS ISSUE. SHOULD BE A RECALL! 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEALERSHIP FRAUDULENT TACTICS AND WANTS DEALERSHIP TO PURCHASE VEHICLE BACK. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE NEVER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND THE PURCHASE WAS MADE STRICTLY ON THE CLAIM OF THE OUTSTANDING GAS MILEAGE THAT WAS POSTED ON THE STICKER ON THE WINDOW WHICH READ 34 MPG CITY AND 40 MPG HIGHWAY. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER MAKING THE DEAL, THE GENERAL MANAGER INFORMED HIM THAT HYUNDAI WAS HAVING PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE MILEAGE ACTUALLY LIVING UP TO THE ADVERTISED FIGURES. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM, THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY GETTING AN OVERALL MILEAGE OF 26 MPG. THE DEALER DROVE THE VEHICLE A 150 MILES, AND THEY CLAIMED THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING 34 MPG. THE CONSUMER DOCUMENTED THE ALL THE GAS MILEAGE, AND THE BEST WAS 28 MPG AND THE WORST WAS 25 MPG. THE CONSUMER ALSO NOTICED THE WINDOW STICKER WAS GONE WHEN HE ARRIVED HOME. AFTER REQUESTING A NEW STICKER FOR OVER SIX WEEKS, THE DEALER FINALLY GAVE HIM A STICKER. HOWEVER, THE GAS MILEAGE WAS DIFFERENT ON THE STICKER.
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BASED ON THE MONRONEY STICKER, THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS HOWEVER, THERE WERE NONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED TO SWITCH THE VEHICLE WITH ANOTHER ONE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD TO DRIVE WITH THE TAIL LIGHTS RUNNING DURING THE DAYTIME BECAUSE THERE WERE NO DAY TIME RUNNING LAMPS EQUIPPED ON THE VEHICLE. DRIVING ALONG AT 40MPH THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION. THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED. STRESS CRACK ALONG ITS ENTIRE PERIMETER, SHATTERING GLASS, AND CREATING A CONVEX CRACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GLASS. THIS IS THE STATIC-NON-MOVABLE PART OF THE SUNROOF AND WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME. GLASS FRAGMENTS ENTERED INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS. I HAVE ALSO NOTED THERE IS A RECALL WITH SAME ISSUE OF THE HYUNDAI VELOSTER AND OTHERS HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH THE ELANTRA AS DOCUMENTED ON YOUR WEBSITE. THIS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED WHEN BOTH VEHICLES DESCRIBED HAVE BEEN MOVING OR PARKED. OBVIOUSLY THE GLASS IS OF FAULT OR THERE IS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN PUTTING THE GLASS UNDER STRESS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND EXPECT HYUNDAI TO OFFER AN ENGINEERED SOLUTION AS I AM OF THE SAME DISCIPLINE. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS DOCUMENTING THE INCIDENT. DEALERSHIP IS PREPARED TO REPLACE GLASS. HOWEVER, I WORRY OF FUTURE INCIDENTS THAT COULD CREATE AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY FROM FLYING GLASS. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,800. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,000......UPDATED 05/09/13 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES FAILED A SECOND TIME COMING TO A STOP AT 20 MPH. CLICKING AND LOUD BLUNKING NOISE COULD BE HEARD. DRIVER PUMPED THE BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO ACTIVATE HALF WAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED BY DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A NEW HYUNDAI ELANTRA GLS. ONE OF THE FEATURES ON THE STICKER CLAIMS THAT THERE ARE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS. THE SWITCH THAT TURNS ON/OFF THE HEADLIGHTS IS ALSO THE "DRL OFF/ON" SWITCH. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI VIA EMAIL AND THEY REFER ME TO THE OWNERS MANUAL. IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA ITS ILLEGAL TO DRIVE WITH THE PARKING LIGHTS ON DURING THE DAY (UNLESS IT'S RAINING OR VISIBILITY IS HUNDRED. I BELIEVE IT MAY BE ILLEGAL IN OTHER STATES ALSO. THESE ARE NOT DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS. THE STICKER ON THE CAR MAY CLAIM IT HAS DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS, BUT ITS MISS LEADING AND IT SEEMS AS A LIE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN VERY LIGHT SNOW IN MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA ON HIGHWAY 12 N44.44043 AND W79.12958, CLOSE TO BEAVERTON, ONTARIO GOING TRAVELING NORTH NEAREST EXIT CONCESSION 7 THORAH AROUND 8 PM ON THE 11TH FEB. 2013 AND THE CAR STARTED TO FISHTAIL AT A VERY LOW SPEED OF ABOUT 40 KILOMETER PER HOUR. I JUST PARKED MY CAR ON THE SHOULDER AND CALLED CAA, I WAS TERRIFIED TO GO ANY FURTHER. I ONLY HAVE 2472 KILOMETERS ON THE SPEEDOMETER! IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A VERY SAFE CAR. BY THE WAY, I ALSO HAVE SNOW TIRES ON MY CAR. *TR
IS HAS BEEN 2 YEARS NOW SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY 15 TIMES FOR SUSPENSION AND STEERING PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE HANDLES POORLY ON PRETTY MUCH ANY ROAD CONDITION. THE VEHICLE WILL SWAY AND JUMP OVER EVERY BUMP OR CRACK IN THE ROAD. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT IN A LANE AND FEEL YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TO WHITENUCKLE THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE SUSPENSION HAS BEEN CLUNKY SINCE DAY ONE AND THE DEALERSHIP FINDS NOTHING WRONG! THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUES. THE TIRE AFFECTED WAS ALWAYS THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE WEATHER. THE DEALER SUGGESTED ADDING NITROGEN, HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT NOTICED BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE TIRES. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED BECAUSE OF A PIN SIZED HOLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,800.
CAR IS ADVERTISED AS HAVING DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL'S). THE DRL'S DO NOT OPERATE NORMALLY ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA COUPE AS THEY ARE NOT ON "AUTOMATICALLY" WHEN DRIVING. IF THE LIGHT STALK IS IN THE OFF POSITION THE DRL'S ARE OFF. WHEN I TURN THE DRL'S ON, THE PARKING LIGHTS (AMBER SIDE LIGHTS AND THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS) ARE TURNED ON AS WELL. IN ADDITION TO IT BEING ILLEGAL IN SOME STATES TO DRIVE WITH PARKING LIGHTS ON THIS SETUP MAKES MY BRAKE LIGHTS LESS NOTICEABLE DURING THE DAY (WHEN I DO BRAKE) AS THEY ARE ALREADY LIT UP. I OWN A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WITH APPROXIMATELY 9000 MILES ON IT AS OF MAY 2013. IN JANUARY I HAD THE CAR SITTING OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT, AND WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT THE NEXT MORNING I NOTICED A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE BRAKES. I STOPPED AND GOT OUT TO NOTICE ALL FOUR ROTORS WERE RUSTED. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER, AND AFTER INSPECTION THEY SAID ALL FOUR ROTORS WERE SEVERELY RUSTED. THEY MACHINE SHOPPED THE ROTORS DOWN SO THEY WOULD MAKE A NOISE OR MAKE THE CAR PULSATE WHILE STOPPING. THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY I LEFT THE CAR SIT OUTSIDE OVER THE ENTIRE WEEKEND. WHEN I LEFT FOR WORK MONDAY MORNING I NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS PULSATING AND MAKING A GRINDING SOUND AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE PREVIOUS SITUATION. THEY SAID THAT THIS TYPE OF SITUATION HAPPENS IF THE CAR IS LEFT IN MOISTURE OVERNIGHT. I TOLD THEM THAT IS RIDICULOUS SINCE MANY PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF A GARAGE. HAD BEEN HEARING A GRINDING NOISE WHEN BRAKING ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WOULD RAIN OUT AND ON THE ADVICE MADE AN APPT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER THE BRAKES GAVE OUT AND MY CAR HIT INTO MY HUSBANDS CAR THAT WAS DRIVING IN FRONT OF ME TO THE DEALER SO HE COULD DRIVE ME HOME. AT FIRST THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITHTHE BRAKES I INSISTED THEY KEEP IT OVERNIGHT AND THEYSAID THEY WOULD DRIVE IT WHEN THE CAR WAS COLD. THANKFULLY IT RAINED HARD THAT NIGHT AND EVEN THOUGH THEY WAITED TIL THE AFTERNOON TO DRIVE IT THEY WERE STILL ABLE TO HEAR THE GRINDING ALTHOUGH NOT NEARLY AS LOUD AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IF THEY DROVE IT IN THE MORNING. THEY SAID THE ROTORS WERE BUILDING UP CORROSION SO THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS IT SEEMS TO BE A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM I INTEND TO INSIST TOMORROW THEY CHANGE THE ROTORS TOO BUT THE FACT STILL REMAINS THAT THERE IS NOW EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF MY CAR. It seems like this vehicle was sold new in 2013 with 16" wheels, but the tire placard indicates 17" wheels. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure the wheels haven't been changed since the vehicle was driven off the dealer lot.
THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WITH LIGHT TRAFFIC TRAVELING AROUND 60 MPH. IT FIRST BEGAN WHEN I FELT AN UNBALANCE OF THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE. THE CAR SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT REGARDLESS OF MY EFFORTS TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. MY CAR FISHTAILED FOR A MOMENTS AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER CAR. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR WHEN MY CAR CRASHED INTO THE WALL THAT LINED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. AFTER VISUALLY INSPECTING THE WHEEL, IT APPEARED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT RIM WAS CUT IN A HALF VERTICALLY AND ALL AROUND. IT WAS CUT IN A NEAR-PERFECT STRAIGHT LINE - SIMILAR TO WHAT A OPENED CAN LOOKS LIKE. THE TIRE REMAINED FULLY INTACT WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE. THE BODY SHOP MECHANICS TOLD US THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THE RIM CUT LIKE THAT BEFORE AND SAID THE ONLY EXPLANATION WOULD BE A DEFECT IN THE RIM. WE HAVE PICTURES AND CAN PROVIDE THEM UPON REQUEST. THE BODY SHOP MECHANICS AND INSURANCE ADJUSTERS ARE ALL CLUELESS TO HOW AND WHY THIS OCCURRED. PLEASE OPEN AN INVESTIGATION TO HELP US DETERMINE THE CAUSE. I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE WHEN THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR INDICATE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRE. I PULLED OVER AND FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS EXTREMELY LOW. I USED THE AIR PUMP AND FILLED TIRE. I EXITED THE INTERSTATE AND DROVE TO THE NEAREST TIRE REPAIR SHOP. ALL 4 TIRES WERE BELOW 32 PSI. A DIGITAL READING INDICATED THE TIRES RANGE FROM 13 TO 19 PSI. I HAD THE TIRES FILLED. ON 12-17-2012 SAME PROBLEM. TIRE SENSOR INDICATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I DROVE TO MECHANIC AND HAD TIRES CHECK. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE INSPECTED AND NO DAMAGE OR PUNCTURES WERE FOUNDED. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE FILLED WITH AIR. ON 12-29-12, TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR CAME ON. I DROVE TO MECHANIC ALL FOUR TIRE WERE CHECK. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE LOW (RANGE OF 12 TO 21 PSI). TIRES WERE FILLED TO 32 PSI. ON 1-8-2013, SENSOR CAME ON AGAIN. TIRE WERE CHECK AND ALL FOUR TIRES WERE LOW (TIRE RANGED FROM 15 TO 22). ALL FOUR TIRES WERE FILLED TO 32 PSI. ON 1-21-13, TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. ALL FOUR TIRES CHECK AND NEEDED AIR. DIGITAL READING INDICATED THE TIRE RANGE FROM 9 TO 15 PSI. TIRES WERE FILLED BACK TO 32 PSI. *TR

REAR AXLE THAT IS DESIGNED TO NOT BE ALIGNED. NOT SURE IF THAT IS RELATED TO THE CAR FISHTAILING. TOOK IT BACK ON 10/1/12. ON THAT DATE DRIVING TO WORK, IT STUCK AGAIN. BY THE TIME I GOT TO DEALER, IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY. ON 10/2/12, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. DEALER CANNOT FIND OUT WHY THIS IS HAPPENING AND STATES THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THEY SEE WHAT THE WIPERS ARE DOING AS IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY SEEN IT BEFORE. THE DAY I TOOK IT THERE, THE WIPERS STARTED DOING ALL KIND OF CRAZY THINGS SO THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE WIPERS WERE ALREADY DOING. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PULL OFF THE ROAD HE MOVED HIS RIGHT FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO THE BRAKE AND HIS SHOE BECAME STUCK UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL CAUSING HIM TO CRASH INTO A SIGN. AS A RESULT, THE FRONT FENDER AND FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR BECAME DAMAGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER THAN THE ACCELERATOR POSING A SAFETY HAZARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60.

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO WINDSHIELD WIPER DESIGN FAILURE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE WIPER BLADE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS VERY SHORT AND THE BOTTOM END OF THE WIPER BLADE LEFT A SEMI-CIRCULAR WATER STREAK RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PERSON SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT ON EVERY WIPE OF THE BLADE. ALSO, THERE WAS A SPOT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELDS WHERE THE PASSENGER WIPER BLADE LEFT A SHORT INVERTED "V" TYPE SPOT THAT THE DRIVER'S WIPER BLADE DID NOT CLEAN WHICH WOULD FREEZE INTO IN THE WINTER. THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WAS TOO SENSITIVE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE HAS ELECTRIC STEERING WHICH MAY BE RELATED TO THE CONDITION. THE STEERING WAS SO SENSITIVE, THAT HE HAD TO CONSTANTLY MOVE THE WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT JUST TO STAY OUT OF THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE AND STAY IN HIS LANE OF TRAFFIC. SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE DRIVING, IN A SLIGHT CROSSING WIND WITH VARIOUS GROUPS OF TREES, THE LEVEL OF STEERING SENSITIVITY FORCED HIM TO RUN OFF THE EDGE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID ENTERING THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. ALSO, ON A FEW OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARDER THAN NORMAL, BUT NOT HARD ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE ABS. WITH THE ELECTRIC ASSISTED STEERING, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO FEEL IF THE VEHICLE WAS CENTERED IN HIS LANE PRIOR TO USING THE BRAKES.
I PURCHASED A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA ON JUNE 18, 2012 FROM DICK HANNAH VOLKSWAGEN HYUNDAI OF PORTLAND, OREGON. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS, I BEGAN HEARING A NOISE COMING FROM THE TRUNK AREA. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT ON AUGUST 24, 2012. INITIALLY, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY TRIED TO USE EPOXY TO FIX THE NOISE AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 36 HOURS (OVER THE WEEKEND) TO LET IT DRY. ON MONDAY, THE SOUND WAS STILL THERE AND THEY RAN FURTHER TESTS. I WAS THEN INFORMED ON WEDNESDAY THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED TO THE COLLISION CENTER IN VANCOUVER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. ON THURSDAY, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO HAVE A PART RE-WELDED. I REALLY WAS NOT TOLD EXACTLY WHAT WAS BEING WELDED AT THAT POINT, BUT THAT IT WOULD NOT BE READY UNTIL THE NEXT WEEK (FOLLOWING THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND). FINALLY, ON TUESDAY I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, [XXX] AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY HAD CONTACTED HYUNDAI TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD ENCOUNTERED THE SAME NOISE. A HYUNDAI ENGINEER HAD TO COME OUT AND HELP DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THEY VERIFIED THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK TOWER. THEY REMOVED THE REINFORCEMENT CAP AND SHOCK TOWER AND FOUND TWO SPOTS MISSED BY FACTORY WELDER, WHICH DID NOT PROPERLY ADHERE THE STRUT TOWER TO THE CAR BODY AND SIGNS OF RUBBING MAKING THE NOISE. THEY WERE ABLE TO CLEAN UP THE AREA AND RE-WELD THE PIECE TOGETHER. THEY REINSTALLED THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK TOWER AND REINFORCEMENT CAP TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. I AM TOLD THAT HYUNDAI NOW HAS A FILE ON MY CAR. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2012. A FULL TWO WEEKS AFTER I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE NOISE. I BOUGHT MY 2013 ELANTRA ON 7/17/12 FROM ORLANDO HYUNDAI. ON 8/4/12 WHILE DRIVING ON I-95, THE TPMS (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM) LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO THE NEAREST TIRE SHOP AND HAD THE TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED ON ALL 4 TIRES AND THEY WERE ALL FINE. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED I HAVE MY DEALERSHIP TAKE A LOOK AND POSSIBLY HAVE THEM RESET THE SENSORS. UPON MY ARRIVAL HOME, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REASON FOR THE SENSORS GOING OFF. THE ISSUE PERSISTED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS CAUSING ME TO SPEND COUNTLESS HOURS AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY EVEN WENT AS FAR AS TO KEEP MY CAR FOR OVER A WEEK, DRIVE IT SEVERAL MILES AND REPLACE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM INCLUDING ALL FOUR TIRE SENSORS. DESPITE THIS, THE TPMS LIGHT STILL FLASHES. THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CONVINCE ME THAT USB AND AUX CORDS IN MY CAR (USED WITH MY PHONE) ARE CAUSING A SIGNAL INTERFERENCE WITH THE SENSORS. IN MY OPINION THAT IS A BOGUS EXCUSE. THE CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE THE FEATURES IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO COEXIST. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ALSO ATTEMPTED TO REASSURE ME THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR AND IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE EVEN WHILE THE TPMS LIGHT IS FLASHING. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS EITHER AS I CONSTANTLY HAVE A SAFETY FEATURE ALERTING ME TO BELIEVE OTHERWISE. I HAVE TOLD THE DEALERSHIP AND HYUNDAI HEADQUARTERS THAT I BELIEVE THIS CAR IS A LEMON ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT A CAR IS ONLY A LEMON AFTER HAVING THE SAME ISSUE FIXED 3 TIMES. THUS FAR I HAVE HAD MY TPMS FIXED TWICE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL DRIVING THIS CAR WITH DYSFUNCTIONAL FEATURES. *TR
PURCHASED A NEW 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GLS 4 DOOR. ONCE A PERSON TURNS ON THEIR DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ALL OF THE VEHICLES PARKING LIGHTS TURN ON AS WELL. NO OTHER CAR MANUFACTURE HAS MANDATED ALL THIS ILLUMINATION DURING DAYTIME HOURS. ON AUGUST 3RD 2012 AT 11:40AM I WAS ISSUED A MOVING VIOLATION BY A LOS ANGELES POLICE OFFICER IN THE CITY OF VAN NUYS, C.A. I WAS CITED FOR VIOLATING CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE SECTION 24800 WHICH STATES "NO VEHICLE SHALL BE DRIVEN AT ANY TIME WITH THE PARKING LAMPS LIGHTED EXCEPT WHEN THE LAMPS ARE BEING USED AS TURN SIGNAL LAMPS OR WHEN THE HEADLAMPS ARE ALSO ILLUMINATED". I EXPLAINED THE SCENARIO TO MY LAWYER AND HE ADVISED ME THAT THE CITATION IS VALID BECAUSE IN C.A. THE WORD HEADLAMPS IN VC SECTION 24800 IS INTERPRETED BY THE COURTS AS THE VEHICLES PRIMARY SOURCE OF FORWARD ILLUMINATION AND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS DO NOT FALL INTO THIS PRIMARY SOURCE CATEGORY. TO AVOID FUTURE CITATIONS I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU OPERATE ANY 2013+ HYUNDAI PRODUCT DO NOT USE THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT FEATURE BECAUSE THE PARKING LIGHTS WILL LIGHT UP AND YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO A CITATION.
