I HAD TO STOP MODERATELY HARD AT 50 MPH AND WHEN I DID MY BRAKES MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND VIBRATED VERY ROUGH. I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A HYUNDAI TSB CAMPAIGN FOR THE BRAKES ISSUED DECEMBER 2012 AND THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALER BEFORE THE CAR WAS SOLD BUT THE DEALERSHIP (KEY HYUNDAI IN JACKSONVILLE, FL) NEGLECTED TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PADS. *TR
AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 35 MPH ON ROUGH ROADS REAR END OF CAR WILL SLIDE OUT TO RIGHT CAUSING VEHICLE TO HEAD TOWARDS INCOMING TRAFFIC. IF BRAKES ARE APPLIED WHEN VEHICLE LOSES CONTROL ABS ACTIVATES AND CAR SEEMS TO LEAVE GROUND. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN OVER AND OVER. CAR DEALER REPAIR SAYS THIS IS NOT HAPPENING. NOTES THIS MIGHT BE THE FIRST TIME I HAD THIS TYPE OF SUSPENSION. CAR DOES NOT FEEL SAFE ON INTERSTATE. I'VE TESTED THE BUMP OUT IN AN EMPTY LOT. IF NOT CORRECT BY HARD STEERING CAR WILL DEPART LANE. *TR
2013 ELANTRA GLS. CAR WANDERS ALL OVER THE PLACE WHEN YOU GO OVER ANY DIP OR CRACK IN THE ROAD. IT IS ALMOST LIKE YOU ARE DRIVING OVER PATCHES OF ICE WHEN YOU ARE ON DRY. ROADS. CAR HAS BECOME VERY SQUIRRELLY AND UNSAFE. HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON LINE OF SAME PROBLEMS FROM MANY OTHER ELANTRA OWNERS.A *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS WERE NOT ENGAGING AUTOMATICALLY WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE PARKING LIGHTS NEEDED TO BE ACTIVATED IN ORDER FOR THE DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS TO OPERATE NORMALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO IMMEDIATELY RESPOND AND THE REAR END THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
THE REAR OF THE CAR SHIFTS DRAMATICALLY WHEN HITTING EVEN SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD AT SPEEDS FROM 25-30 MPH UP TO HIGHWAY SPEED. SHIFTS OCCUR EVEN MORE DRAMATICALLY WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP ON A CURVE. CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE AND HAD MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK. I HAVE SEEN POSTS OF OTHERS WITH THIS VERY COMPLAIN, BUT HAVE NOT SEEN IT ADDRESSED BY HYUNDAI. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME UNSTABLE AFTER DRIVING OVER A BUMP OR POT HOLE IN THE ROAD. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE IN A STRAIGHT LINE. ALSO, THE BRAKES HAD MALFUNCTIONED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AFTER DRIVING OVER A BUMP OR POT HOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. AFTER CHANGING THE COIL SPRINGS AND REPLACING THE TIRES THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.
THE CAR LITERALLY RIDES LIKE A TRUCK, WITH A VERY LIGHT BACK END. WHEN GOING OVER EVEN SLIGHT BUMPS THE RIDE (SUSPENSION) FEELS LIKE A BIG HOLE OR VERY ROUGH ROAD. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE BACK END DOES NOT FEEL VERY STABLE WHEN GOING OF "WASHBOARD TYPES OF ROADS". ROAD NOISE IS DISTINCTLY LOUD AT TIMES. *TR
I HEARD AN EXPLOSION AND STARTED FEELING SOMETHING FALLING DOWN ON ME AS I WAS DRIVING. I LOOKED UP TO SEE THE SUNROOF PART OF MY PANORAMIC ROOF HAD SHATTERED AND SHARDS OF GLASS WERE FALLING DOWN ON ME. THIS WAS IN THE MORNING, NOTHING ABOVE ME OR AROUND ME, NO TRUCKS.. JUST A RANDOM BREAK. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND SEE THERE HAVE BEEN MANY ISSUES WITH THE SUNROOFS DOING THE SAME THING ON DIFFERENT MODELS. THE DEALERSHIP IS ORDERING THE REPLACEMENT RIGHT NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,100.
ON 8/11/13 THE 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA THAT WAS PURCHASED 6/3/13 AT THE FRED BEANS DEALERSHIP IN DOYELSTOWN, PA. UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL IN THE PARKING LOT AT KING OF PRUSSIA MALL IN KING OF PRUSSIA PA. THE CAR WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND WHEN THE GAS PETAL WAS APPLIED THE CAR ACCELERATED FULL SPEED INTO THE WALL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPEN TO A CAR THAT WAS ONLY 9 WEEKS OLD. IT HAD HAPPENED IN OUR DRIVEWAY 4 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE COLLISION ON 8/11/13, BUT THE CAR WAS BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL AND WE ASSUMED IT WAS JUST NOT BEING FAMILIAR WITH A NEW CAR. THE CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIPS BODY SHOP FOR INSPECTION AND A CLAIM WAS OPENED WITH HYUNDAI CUSTOMER ASSURANCE. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR SEVERAL WEEKS LATER AND AFTER 6 WEEK WE HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE ON THE MANUFACTURERS PART AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I HAVE REQUESTED TESTING RESULTS AND DOCUMENTATION FROM HYUNDAI AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS CLASSIFIED, SO I ASKED FOR A LIST OF TESTS PERFORMED AND IT CANNOT BE GIVEN TO US. WE HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL LETTER FROM HYUNDAI, NONE OF WHICH HAD A PERSONS LAST NAME OR ANY NAME AT ALL. I HAVE HAD THE CAR'S BODY WORK REPAIRED AND HAVE TRIED TO TRADE THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER NEW CAR BUT THE DEALERSHIP WILL REQUIRE ANOTHER SUBSTANTIAL DOWN PAYMENT WHICH MAKES THIS OPTION UNFEASIBLE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT HAD ANY CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND HAS REQUESTED I FORMALLY ASK FOR SOME MONETARY RELIEF TOWARDS THE NEW CAR REPLACEMENT. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL REQUESTS AND HAVE GOTTEN A FINAL "NO" DECISION FROM HYUNDAI. THE CAR HAS AND STILL SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND I WILL NOT ALLOW MY DAUGHTER TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE AN UNDOCUMENTED CAR. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO PROCEED.
BEING A 40 PLUS YEAR DRIVER AND AN INDIANA CDL LICENSE HOLDER I CAN NOT KEEP THIS CAR BETWEEN THE LINES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT WONDERS LEFT THEN RIGHT AND SOMETIMES THE WHEEL SEEMS TO RESIST CORRECTION. I HAVE A 09/03/2013 SERVICE DATE TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT. *TR
I WAS AT THE LOCAL MALL AND I LEFT TO GO TO A NEARBY KOHLS, NOT EVEN A MILE AWAY. I NOTICED THAT THE LOWTIRE INDICATOR HAD COME ON AND PARKED THE CAR IN KOHLS PARKING LOT. A COUPLE NOTICED ME STRUGGLING WITH THE EQUIPPED AIR PUMP AND CAME TO HELP. THE TIRE WOULDN'T HOLD AIR AND WE TRIED A CAN OF FIX-A-FLAT. IT DIDN'T HELP EITHER AND WE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A SMALL HOLE IN THE TIRE WHICH HAD APPARENTLY BLOWN OUT. I STOPPED AT A NEARBY WALMART AND HAD TO PURCHASE A TIRE TO GET HOME. MY HUSBAND AND I STOPPED AT THE DEALERSHIP EARLY THE NEXT MORNING TO SPEAK TO OUR SALESMAN WHO IMMEDIATELY USHERED US TO THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO SAID " NO" NO PROBLEMS WITH TIRES THAT WE KNOW SORRY. THE WHOLE CONVERSATION AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE TOOK ABOUT 2 MINUTES. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TIRE BUT THEY WERE RELUCTANT TO EVEN DISCUSS IT. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 1200 MILES. I GUESS IT WAS EASIER TO BE FRIENDLY WHEN SELLING THAN SERVICING. *TR
WHEN TURNING A LEFT HAND CURVE IT IS HARD TO SEE AROUND THE APE HANGER BECAUSE IT IS TO WIDE. HAD A NEAR MISS A COUPLE OF TIMES IN MY SUBDIVISION BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO SEE AROUND.
BRAKES HAVE BEEN GRINDING SINCE IT WAS NEW. CAR NOW ONLY HAS 2000 MILES ON IT NOW AND SOUNDS EVEN WORSE WHEN YOU GO TO STOP.
PREMATURE WEAR ON INSIDE EDGE OF REAR TIRES. WHEEL ALIGNMENT INDICATES THAT THE REAR WHEELS ARE AT THE HIGH END OF THE SPECIFICATION BUT THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT. ON WET OR ICY ROAD CONDITIONS THE CAR LURCHES FROM SIDE TO SIDE LOSING TRACTION SHIFTING SIDE TO SIDE. TIRES WEAR OUT AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30K MULTIPLE BRANDS HAVE BEEN TRIED. DEALER DID MULTIPLE WHEEL ALIGNMENTS AND EVENTUALLY PROVIDED TWO NEW TIRES BUT NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. I KNOW OF OTHERS WHO HAVE BOUGHT THE SAME YEAR OF VEHICLE AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THE LURKING/SHIFTING WHEN DRIVING ON WET OR ICY ROAD IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE TIRE REPLACEMENT ISSUE IS COSTLY AS WELL. REAR TIRES ARE CHAMBERED FROM FACTORY CAUSING THIS ISSUE AND NO ADJUSTMENT CAPABILITIES. THIS SHOULD BE A FACTORY RECALL AND THE REAR AXLE SHOULD BE REPLACED TO PROPERLY ALIGN THE REAR WHEELS. MY FIRST SET OF FACTORY TIRES WHERE EVENLY ON THE FRONT THEY WERE MEASURED AT 8/32 TREAD WHEN THE REAR TIRES WHERE UNEVENLY FROM 8/32 ON THE OUTSIDE TO 0/32 ON THE INSIDE TWO INCHES INTO THE TIRE TREAD. FOUGHT WITH DEAL FIR MONTHS AND MONTHS THEY FINALLY WON AND WORE ME OUT. I JUST STOP GOING TO THEM AND REPLACE MY TIRES AS THEY WEAR OUT. VERY COSTLY AND DANGEROUS FOR OTHERS WHO DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE LURKING/SHIFTING TO DRIVE THIS CAR. THERE ARE NO AFTER MARKET SHIM KITS TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE EITHER. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE AS THE VEHICLE WHEEL ALIGNMENT IS NOT TRACKING PROPERLY WITH NO ADJUSTMENT.
THE SHEET THAT CAME WITH THE CAR SAYS 28 MPG IN CITY DRIVING. I GET 20-21 IN THE CITY. WHEN I TAKE IT TO AUTOMAX HYUNDAI THEY DO A ROAD MILEAGE TEST AND SAY IT GET 42 MPG. I TELL THEM THAT I AM NOT CONCERNED WITH ROAD MILEAGE SINCE I ONLY DO CITY DRIVING. THEY DO NOT HAVE EQUIPMENT NECESSARY TO CHECK CITY MILEAGE AND ARE NOT CONCERNED AT ALL ABOUT MY CITY MILEAGE PROBLEM. *TR
THERE ARE SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE 1. STEERING- THE ELECTRIC STEERING MAKES THIS VEHICLE HARD TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT LINE ON THE FREEWAY. THE AUTO STEERING OR SELF CORRECTING STEERING IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD HAVE AN OFF SWITCH. 2.TRACTION CONTROL- THE TRACTION CONTROL IS DANGEROUS IN ICE,SNOW AND RAIN. IT HAS THE OPPOSITE EFFECT IN THESE CONDITIONS, IT WOULD SAFER AND WOULD HAVE MORE CONTROL IF IT IS SIMPLY TURNED OFF. 3. STALLING- THE VEHICLE STALLS VERY EASY, BUT I BELIEVE IT DUE TO SAVING GAS AT IDLE WITH LOWER RPM. (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) REQUIRES MORE GAS WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP THAN ANY VEHICLE I'VE HAVE OWNED. 4. TPS- TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR NEVER WORKS ALWAYS SAYS THERE IS AN ISSUE EVEN AFTER REPLACING SENSORS. THESE PROBLEMS ARE CONSTANT SINCE PURCHASE!
OVER THE PAST 11 MONTH THIS CAR HAS HAD SEVERAL INCIDENCES WHERE IT JUST WILL NOT START. ON A FEW OCCASIONS IT STARTED AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIES AND A FEW OCCASIONS WHERE IT WOULD NOT START WHEN I NEEDED IT TO BUT HAD NO PROBLEM STARTING AN HOUR OR TWO LATER. THIS WEEKEND WAS THE BIGGEST ISSUE. I PARKED MY CAR FRIDAY EVENING WITH NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE BUT ON SATURDAY THE CAR WOULD NOT START, LATER ON SATURDAY THE CAR WOULD NOT START, SUNDAY THE CAR WOULD NOT START. HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SENT SOMEONE OUT TO JUMP MY CAR BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THEY SENT OUT A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HE USED THE SHIFT OVERRIDE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP ONCE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL AND IT DROVE JUST FINE. WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS UP BUT WHEN I TURN THE KEY TO START THE CAR, THE PANEL GOES OUT AND THERE IS NOTHING BUT SILENCE FROM THE ENGINE. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE IT IS NOT CAUSING ANY CODES TO GO TO THE COMPUTER. *JS

RAN OUT OF GAS DESPITE THE GAUGE SHOWING 42 MILES LEFT (ABOUT 1.5 GALLONS). WALKED TO A STATION AND GOT A GAS CAN; PUT A COUPLE OF GALLONS IN, STARTED THE CAR, AND THE METER STARTED DROPPING DRAMATICALLY, GOING FROM 112 MILES REMAINING TO 104 TO 98... ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 82 MILES REMAINING BEFORE I EVEN STARTED DRIVING. DROVE ABOUT A QUARTER MILE, AND IT FELL ANOTHER 3 MILES. DON'T KNOW YET IF THE CAR IF THE PROBLEM IS WITH FUEL INJECTION, THE GAUGE, OR SOME ISSUE WITH THE TANK ITSELF (AIR/WATER LEAKING IN OR GAS LEAKING OUT, ETC.). PROBLEM OCCURRED THE DAY AFTER BRINGING THE CAR INTO THE SHOP FOR A SEPARATE PROBLEM. MY CAR IS 6 WEEKS OLD, AND I HAVE BROKEN DOWN TWO DAYS IN A ROW JUST DRIVING TO WORK. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED ONCE REACHING 40 MPH. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A NATURAL OCCURRENCE OF THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE OR INITIATE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 307. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OUR BRAND NEW CAR AND MY 3 YEAR OLD OPENED THE BACK DOOR, IMAGINE MY SURPRISE AND SHOCK WHEN I GO TO LOCK THE CHILD LOCK AND THERE ISN'T ONE! I'M SO DISAPPOINTED AND UPSET. *TR
VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND STARTED IDLING ROUGHLY AND ENGINE SHUT OFF. DORAL HAD A HYUNDAI MOTOR "FIELD ENGINEER" ([XXX]) LOOK AT IT ON JULY 11 AND I WAS INFORMED THROUGH THE SERVICE ADVISER THAT THIS WAS TYPICAL OF THESE MODELS AND THAT SHE, PERSONALLY, HAD CHOSEN TO IGNORE IT; SHE WORKS FOR A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. WHEN I DROVE THE NEW CAR OFF THE LOT IT BEGAN PULLING TO THE RIGHT, BUT SINCE WE BOUGHT IT LATE ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ALSO CAME ON (I'M REFERRING TO THE LIGHT BY THE TACHOMETER, NOT THE ONE BELOW THE RADIO). BLUELINK PERFORMED AN INSPECTION REMOTELY & SAID TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ASAP. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO KEEP THE CAR UNTIL MONDAY, BUT WE WERE MOVING TO A DIFFERENT CITY THEREFORE WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP IN OUR NEW CITY INSTEAD. I TOLD THE STORY TO THE SERVICE DEPT, LEFT THE CAR THERE AT THE NEW DEALERSHIP, 2 DAYS LATER I CAME BACK TO GET IT. THE AIR BAG ISSUE WAS FIXED BUT NOT THE PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE ALIGNMENT SPECIALIST CAME WITH ME TO TEST IT, REALIZED THAT IT WAS STILL PULLING, WE WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP & SWITCHED THE TWO FRONT TIRES & WENT AGAIN FOR ANOTHER TEST. THE SPECIALIST REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS NOW PULLING TO THE LEFT. WE TEST DROVE THE CAR OVER 8 TIMES, THEY SAID ALIGNMENT WAS GOOD & ONLY ATTEMPTED TO ROTATE THE TIRES MULTIPLE TIMES, CAR STILL PULLED. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP, THEY AGREED THE CAR WAS PULLING BUT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE ANOTHER DEALERSHIP HAD ALREADY INSPECTED IT & I WOULD HAVE TO PAY EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS BARELY TWO WKS OLD! I WENT BACK TO THE PREVIOUS DEALERSHIP, WE TESTED IT AGAIN WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. THEY TRIED TO CONVINCE ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, WHEN CLEARLY THE CAR STILL PULLS STRONGLY TO THE RIGHT. I HAD TO ESCALATE THE PROBLEM TO HYUNDAI USA AS THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING FURTHER. AFTER READING THE OWNERS MANUAL, IT CLEARLY STATES THAT THE POWER STEERING SHOULD BE CHECKED IF THE CAR IS IN ALIGNMENT, YET PULLING TO ONE SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP NEVER RECOMMENDED THIS, NOR DID ANY TESTING OF THE STEERING. *TR
PULLED OVER TO SHOULDER ON FLORIDA TURNPIKE TO ADJUST SEAT BELT AND THE CAR STARTED A VERY ROUGH IDLING AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN DRIVE. REPORTED IT TO DEALER AND HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA AND FOLLOWING WAS THEIR REPLY: -DEALER: THIS IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THESE VEHICLES THAT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO CORRECT -HYUNDAI: THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ARE WORKING TO RESOLVE IT. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I HAD MY CAR FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA ON A ROUGH ROAD AND THE REAR END FELT LIKE IT WAS FISH TAILING. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE. I WAS DRIVING APPROX 30-35MPH. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE ON AN UNEVEN SURFACE. I HAVE TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE WITH BOTH HANDS AND THE CAR STILL FEELS UNCONTROLLABLE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER BUT THEY DROVE IT AND SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT IS SO SCARY THAT THIS COMPANY WILL LET PEOPLE DRIVE A CAR AROUND THAT IS THIS DANGEROUS. I HAVE THREE CHILDREN AND IT SCARES ME TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THEM IN IT. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS INTER-MENTALLY WITH THE CAR FAILING TO START. THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON, THE RADIO AND A/C ALL COME ON BUT THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT FINALLY STARTS. UNABLE TO INSERT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION NO MATTER HOW HARD WE TRIED.THIS HAPPENED FAIRLY SOON AFTER WE PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE DEALER; IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES, BUT THE DEALER EVENTUALLY GETS THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND CLAIMS THERE IS NO PROBLEM "CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM". AT ONE INCIDENT THE DRIVE OF THE TOW TRUCK HAMMERED THE KEY QUITE HARD IN THE IGNITION AND FORCED THE KEY IN! I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI MOTOR AND THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME AND CLAIM THAT" THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND I NEED TO STEER THE STEERING WHEEL REALLY HARD TO GET THE STEERING MECHANISM LOOSE" THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN WITH 6 MONTHS OLD CAR WHILE IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.ANY INPUT OR ADVICE WOULD BEAPPRECIATED. AS NOTED FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE ALSO HAD THIS VEHICLE BECOME ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE AT SPEED WHEN HITTING BUMPS OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT. THE REAR OF THE CAR WANTS TO SHIFT RIGHT OR LEFT AND IF NOT CAUGHT IN TIME COULD CAUSE ONE TO SIDE SWIPE ANOTHER VEHICLE OR JUST RUN OFF THE ROAD. THANKFULLY BECAUSE OF PAST ROAD RACING EXPERIENCE, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO COUNTER STEER THE VEHICLE BEFORE THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. ITS ONLY MY BELIEF THAT THERE IS TIRE/WHEEL/SUSPENSION ISSUES CREATING THIS SITUATION. I PARKED MY VEHICLE IN A SHOPPING CENTER IN A SPACE WITH A VERY SLIGHT INCLINE. (3-4 DEGREE). I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, BUT WAS DISTRACTED AND THE CAR WAS LEFT IN DRIVE. THIS VEHICLE HAS A REMOTE LOCK/UNLOCK AND START/STOP KEY. THE KEY DROPPED FROM MY POCKET AND ONTO THE DRIVERS SEAT AND AS I EXITED THE VEHICLE IT STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. I RAN TO THE BACK TO PREVENT IT ROLLING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A CAR COMING TOWARD ME SAW I WAS IN TROUBLE AND THE DRIVER GOT OUT AND RAN TO MY FRONT DOOR AND QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I THINK THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT THE CAR COULD ROLL WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND THE CAR IN DRIVE. I PURCHASED A NEW 2013 ELANTRA GT IN MAY OF THIS YEAR. A WEEK AFTER TAKING IT HOME THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WENT OFF WHILE DRIVING. HAD IT SCANNED AGAIN. WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG & THEY CLEARED THE CODES THRU BLUE LINK. I WAS THEN TOLD TO JUST IGNORE IT & IT SHOULD BE OK. MOSTLY IT IS JUST ELECTRONICALLY INTERFERENCE. I PARKED THE CAR & USED MY HUSBANDS CAR FOR A WHILE. I START USING MY CAR & GOING DOWN 295 IT HAPPENED AGAIN. PULLED OVER & BLUE LINK SENT THE ALERT AGAIN. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP & MADE AN APPOINTMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD A CERTIFIED HYUNDAI PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN THAT WAS GOING TO LOOK MY CAR OVER. AFTER 4 HRS OF WAITING I WAS GIVEN A PAPER ASKING ME NOT TO USE ELECTRONICS IN THE CAR AS THIS WAS CAUSING MY TPMS ISSUE. THEY PAPER WAS DATED MARCH 2007. REALLY? AT THAT POINT I WAS FRUSTRATED SO I CALLED HYUNDAI CORP OFFICE. AFTER AN HR CONVERSATION I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. SO THAT FRIDAY OFF THE CAR WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT BAD & THAT MY TIRES WERE OVER INFLATED BY 8LBS EACH. SO 3 HRS & A LOT OF PATIENCE I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS ALL SET. 20 MINS AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THE TPMS LIGHT GOES OFF AGAIN WITH THE BLUE LINK ALERT TO SERVICE THE CAR ASAP. THE FOLLOWING DAY BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THIS TRIP I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A SENSOR CHANGED. 3 HRS LATER I LEAVE & HALF WAY HOME TPMS AGAIN. THAT'S 5 TIMES NO REPAIR. NOW THEY CAN'T PROVIDE ME A LOANER BUT WANT TO KEEP THE CAR OVERNIGHT. CAR HAS BEEN PARKED FOR 2 WEEKS WAITING. *JB
WAS ABOUT 2 TENTHS OF A MILE FROM A STOP SIGN. AS I WAS BEGINNING TO MAKE MY APPROACH, THE CAR ACCELERATED, LURCHED FORWARD AND SPED ACROSS A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY BEFORE I COULD REACT. MY PASSENGER RECEIVED A BROKEN COLLAR BONE, FRACTURED RIB, SCALP LACERATIONS (STITCHES), A CONCUSSION AND MULTIPLE BRUISES FROM HEAD TO TOE. *TR

MY CAR WAS ASSEMBLED ON FEB, 22, 2013. I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT THIS AT TIME OF PURCHASE AND HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION FROM HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA. THE DEALERS ARE NOT RESPONSIVE. (2) THE "AUTO-DIMMING REARVIEW MIRROR WITH HOMELINK & COMPASS" RARELY FUNCTIONS. REAL PROBLEM IS THAT MIRROR IMAGE AND HEADLIGHTS ARE SAME INTENSITY/ CLARITY WHETHER UNIT IS TURNED ON OR OFF--VERY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN MARCH, IT WAS MY FIRST TIME BUYING A NEW CAR. WITHIN THE FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER BUYING THE CAR I NOTICED A FEW RATTLING AND CLANKING NOISES. I BELIEVED THIS TO BE THE CARS MOVING PARTS, AND DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT AT THE TIME, ESPECIALLY SINCE I WAS USED TO DRIVING USED CARS THAT SOUNDED WORSE. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM (UNIVERSAL HYUNDAI IN ORLANDO) WAS BOOKED UP SO I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT ORLANDO HYUNDAI. SHORTLY AFTER BRINGING MY CAR IN, AND HAVING THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT LOOK AT THE CAR, I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS SOLD TO ME DEFECTIVE, THAT "THE LEFT AND RIGHT INNER TIRE RODS AND LOCK NUTS WERE LOOSE, THREADS WERE DAMAGED, AND THE LOCK NUTS WERE LEFT LOOSE FROM THE FACTORY". THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, AND THAT "ONE TIRE WOULD'VE WENT ONE WAY AND THE OTHER TIRE WOULD'VE WENT THE OTHER WAY, CAUSING YOUR CAR TO COME TO A SUDDEN HALT". THIS MIGHT HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AND KNOWING THAT I WAS DRIVING THAT CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, TAKING TRIPS WITH MY FAMILY AND CHILDREN, WHILE THE CAR WAS DEFECTIVE WAS VERY SCARY AND UPSETTING. I WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT PURCHASING A NEW CAR, AND HOPED THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THESE KINDS OF PROBLEMS. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND WANT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH HYUNDAI. VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AFTER PRESSING BRAKES AND TRYING TO PARK: AS I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE (LESS THAN 5 MPH), IN FRONT OF A GROCERY STORE TO PARK THE CAR, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, HIT A LIGHTING POLE AND COMPLETELY DAMAGED THE FRONT OF THE CAR. PRESSING THE BRAKES EVEN HARDER COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A HALT AS IT HIT THE POLE (THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED). THE AIR BAG DID NOT COME ON, MY HEAD AND NECK HIT THE BRAKES. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT INJURED AND NO ONE ELSE WAS EITHER. BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED, THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF IT BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING DEFECTIVE IN THE CAR. THIS IS VERY SCARY. *TR

MOST FLATS TODAY BECAUSE OF SO MUCH DEBRIS ON OUR ROADS CAUSE MOST TIRES TO INCCUR DAMAGE UNREPAIRABLE WITH A AREOSOL CAN.AS FAR AS HAVING ROAD SERVICE SOLVING AND REPLACING THE TIRE THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT SENARIOS THAT AFFECT THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT AND TOWING OF THE VEHICLE CONSEQUENTLY PUTTING THE DRIVER AND HIS PASSENGERS IN HARMS WAY. THESE TYPE BREAKDOWNS ON BUSY HIGHWAYS AND LESS TRAVELED ROUTES ONLY EXPOSE THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS TO ADDITIONAL SAFETY ISSUES. IF THIS UNIT HAD A DOUGHNUT SPARE IT COULD BE INSTALLED AND ON THE VECHILE AS SOON AND AS FAST AS ROAD SERVICE ARRIVES. ISSUES ON ROADS LESS TRAVELED ON HOLIDAYS,WEEKENDS,AND LATE AND VERY EARLY HOURS ,AND THE NEED TO FIND A SHOP TO PURCHASE A TIRE AND A PLACE TO SPEND THE NIGHT BECOME A LARGER ISSUE THAN THE FLAT TIRE. AS FAR AS NOT PROVIDING A SPARE BECAUSE IT ELIMINATES WEIGHT AND WILL INCREASE MPGS IS A BOGUS PREMISE ON THE PART OF AUTO MAKERS. UNFORTUNATELY I BELIEVE WE WILL SEE INJURYS AND SADLY SOME DEATHS RESULTING BECAUSE OF THE ABSENCE OF A SPARE OR DOUGHNUT. THESE SAD CIRCUMSTANCES WILL RESULT IN LAW SUITS AND CLASS-ACTION LITIGATION. *JS
WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON AND IT IS HUMID OUTSIDE, THE SIDE WINDOWS FOG UP ON THE OUTSIDE. THERE IS NO WAY TO CLEAR UP THE FOG ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WINDOWS. IN PREVIOUS CARS, THERE WAS A BRUSH IN THE WINDOW WELL AND ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS LOWER THE WINDOW AND RAISE IT AND THE FOG WOULD BE REMOVED. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI THREE TIMES AND THEY REFER ME TO MY LOCAL DEALER. EACH TIME THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM AND SAYS THERE IS NO SOLUTION THAT THEY CAN PROVIDE. PLEASE HELP ME CONVINCE HYUNDAI TO PUT A BRUSH IN THE WINDOW WELL. *TR
VEHICLE PURCHASED 05.14.2013 NOTICED FROM DAY ONE THAT STEERING WASN'T RIGHT, THOUGHT IT WOULD TAKE TIME TO GET USE TO. ON 06.12.2013 NOTICED STEERING WHEEL WAS OFF CENTER AND TO THE LEFT AND CAR PULLED TO THE RIGHT. TOOK IT INTO DEALERSHIP ON 06.14.2013. AT FIRST THEY ATTEMPTED TO TELL ME NOTHING WAS WRONG THEN I TOOK THEM FOR A RIDE. IT WAS THEN AGREED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS OFF CENTER AND CAR WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT. I WAS THEN TOLD NO REPAIR WAS AVAILABLE. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI INC. 06.18.2013, THEY IN TURN CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHICH WITHHELD THE INFORMATION THAT THEY HAD AGREED THERE WAS A NON REPAIRABLE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. I THEN CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH THE PERSON THAT WITH HELD INFORMATION AND HE STATED HE DID SO BECAUSE HE WAS NOT ASKED. HE IS ALSO CLAIMING THE SHOP FOREMAN IS IN SCHOOL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND I AM TO TAKE MY CAR IN ON 06.24.2013 FOR THE REPAIR WHICH WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY. MORE AFTER THE ATTEMPTED REPAIR IS MADE. *TR
MY 2013 ELANTRA GT CAME EQUIPPED WITH FACTORY DRL'S (DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS). READING THE OWNERS MANUAL COMPLETELY, I'VE FOUND THE INFO ON THE LIGHT SWITCH STALK SETTINGS MISLEADING & DOESN'T OFFER A CLEAR EXPLANATION.. THE LIGHT SWITCH INDICATES POSITIONS FOR, "DRL OFF, PARKING LAMPS & HEADLAMPS", BUT THE ONLY WAY TO OPERATE DRL'S ARE WHILE PARKING LAMPS SWITCHED ON. THAT MEANS, DRL'S ALONG WITH FULL NIGHTTIME ILLUMINATION OF EVERY EXTERIOR LIGHT EXCEPT HEADLAMPS, INCLUDING FRONT & REAR PARKING LIGHTS, SIDE MARKER LAMPS & LICENSE PLATE LAMPS. I FIND THE "LIMITED" MODELS HAVE AUTOMATIC HEADLAMPS CONTROL & ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THEIR DRL'S RUN INDEPENDENT OF OTHER EXTERIOR LAMPS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER WITH THIS CONCERN & WAS TOLD, IT IS CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS MODEL (EXCLUDING THE LIMITED MODELS). IT IS ILLEGAL IN SOME STATES TO RUN PARKING LAMPS, PLUS IN ORDER TO HAVE DRL'S ON, THE VEHICLE MUST PROVIDE EXTRA POWER (REDUCED MPG'S) TO RUN ALL THOSE OTHER LAMPS, REDUCES BULB LIFE, ETC. IN ADDITION, THE DASH LIGHT ILLUMINATION DOES NOT DIM FROM FULL-BRIGHT WHEN HEADLAMPS ARE SWITCHED ON. THERE IS A MANUAL DIMMER SWITCH, BUT DIMMING MUST BE RAISED/LOWERED EACH TIME BEFORE DRIVING IN DAY OR NIGHT CONDITIONS. WHAT OTHER VEHICLE DOES THIS? THESE THINGS SEEM TO BE AN OVERSIGHT ON THE PART OF HYUNDAI. NO INDICATION OR DISCERNIBLE DIFFERENCES ON INSTRUMENTATION WHETHER DRL PARKING LAMPS OR HEADLIGHTS ARE ON. *TR
I OWN A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA LIMITED. THE STANDARD TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE CAR UPON PURCHASE WERE CONTINENTAL TIRES CONTI PRO SIZE 215/45/17. THREE TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED BULGES ON THE SIDEWALL. I REPLACED THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE ONCE THROUGH MY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP 6 MONTHS AGO - MILEAGE WAS AROUND 5,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP BLAMED THE FAILURE ON POTHOLES/IMPACT AND I HAD THE TIRE REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE HAS AGAIN DEVELOPED A BULGE IN ADDITION TO THE BACK RIGHT TIRE ALSO DEVELOPING A BULGE. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ABNORMAL IMPACT WITH CURBS OR POTHOLES TO CAUSE SUCH DAMAGE AND BELIEVE THERE IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINEERING OF THE CAR OR WITH THE MANUFACTURING OF THE TIRES. I SHARED MY CONCERNS WITH THE HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE NATIONAL CALL-IN AND A CASE REPORT WAS CREATED. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAS ALSO BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS AND THE TIRE MANUFACTURER AS WELL. THE CAR HAS 15,000 MILES AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS THIS TYPE OF TIRE FAILURE. I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY - THE TIRES COULD BLOW AT HIGH SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT I AM NOT AWARE OF. NEITHER THE CAR MANUFACTURER, THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP OR THE TIRE COMPANY WERE WILLING TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. *TR
