Rt passenger side wheel clunks when turning, loud noise when moving took to dealer they found nothing wrong. I returned to dealer again a couple weeks later to confirm my a arm needs repairs, safety issues airbag’s light remaining lit told repairs not available for year and make iwas told to deal with it by dealer even if it was a safety issue, driving car doesn’t matter what speed my back end sounds like it is falling apart and my car will slam out or into gear I have reviewed recalls and safety issues and I have been told that they have been closed even if my car is currently having issues with the vehicle recalls ie..slamming in and out of gear, arm issues and clunky noises on turns and driving,rear end clunk sounds like no shocks or struts
I UNDERSTAND THERE IS AN AIRBAG RECALL ON SOME MODEL CARS, I DRIVE A 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS THAT HAS AN AIRBAG LIGHT ACTIVATED ON THE DASHBOARD. I DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAG IS DEFECTIVE, I SHOULD NOT DRIVE IT, OR WHAT TO DO, PLEASE ADVISE. THIS AIRBAG LITE ON THE DASHBOARD GOES ON AS SOON AS I START THE ENGINE, AND STAYS ON ALL THE TIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, THIS AIRBAG LIGHT DOES NOT GO OFF UNTIL I TURN THE ENGINE OFF.
STEERING AND STABILITY UNSTABLE. MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT THE REAR SUB FRAME IS RUSTY AND CRACKED. THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS REPLACED AROUND 2010 BECAUSE OF A RECALL. WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP LOSE TRACTION AND BECOMES UNSTABLE. WANT TO KNOW IF THE REPLACEMENT FRAME HAS A WARRANTY. WANT TO KEEP THE CAR STILL RUNS GREAT. 170,000 MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP WHERE THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A CONTROL ARM FAILURE AND RUSTED SUBFRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
"TAKADA RECALL " TRANSMISSION DON'T SHIFT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON IT IS SUCK IN 3RD GEAR NEXT TIME START CAR NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAR SHIFTS BUT BANGS HARD IN AND OUT OF NEXT GEAR THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR IS STUCK IN THIRD GEAR.ALSO AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON ALL TIME.
WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN ON SIDE ROAD, THE LOWER LEFT CONTROL ARM PULLED COMPLETELY OUT OF THE FRAME. INSPECTION AFTER FOUND LARGE HOLE RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE FRAME RAIL. INSPECTED RIGHT SIDE AND FRAME HAS SAME TYPE OF RUSTED AND MISSING FRAME SEGMENTS. THANKFULLY THIS HAPPENED AT LOW SPEED AND NOT ON THE INTERSTATE WHERE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD. DOING SOME RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEGINNING WITH 1999 MODEL. *TR
THE FUEL TANK ON 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA IS CRACKED AND LEAKING GASOLINE. THERE IS A STRONG GAS ODOR IN THE CABIN. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND HAZMAT TEAM RESPONDED. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN AN EXPLOSION IF THE GAS VAPORS IGNITED. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR HYUNDAI SONATA. THE FUEL TANK CAN CRACK AND LEAK GASOLINE. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED TO MY 2000 SONATA. THE CAR IS NOW AT A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY ARE REPLACING THE SUBRAME BECAUSE IT HAS A RECALL FOR SEVER RUST. THEY DO NOT WANT TO RECALL THE ISSUE WITH THE RUSTED, CRACKED FUEL TANK. *TR
WHEN DRIVING TO WORK THE WHEEL START TO PULL. WHEN I GOT TO WORK I TOOK A LOOK AT THE FRAME THERE WAS A 2 INCH CRACK IN ONE SIDE AND A 1/4 INCH BY 20 INCH CRACK IN THE OTHER SIDE. WHEN I TOUCH IT THE FRAME WAS ROTTEN. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. DEALER (TAYLOR HYUNDAI) DENIED THAT THERE WAS AN AIR BAG RECALL ON THIS MODEL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA ON GOOD ROAD AND APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN THE LEFT THROUGH-LANE OF A MULTILANE STREET, I MADE A QUICK STOP (NOT AND EMERGENCY STOP) WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED YELLOW. THE ROAD WAS IN GOOD CONDITION AND DRY, AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT ABOUT 80 DEGREES F. UPON MAKING THIS STOP THE CAR PULLED UNUSUALLY SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT - IF THERE HAD BEEN A CAR IN THE RIGHT LANE, I WOULD HAVE HIT IT. AFTER THIS STOP, THE FRONT TIRE(S) MADE UNUSUAL SQUEELING NOISES UPON TURNING, AND THE STEERING FELT UNUSUAL AND SHAKEY. I DROVE THE CAR DIRECTLY (ABOUT A MILE) TO THE PLACE WE WERE VISITING IN LAS VEGAS AND THE NEXT MORNING TOOK THE CAR DIRECTLY TO A HYUNDAI DEALER. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION FRAME CROSSMEMBER (FRONT SUBFRAME) HAD A CORROSION HOLE THROUGH THE FRONT SUBBFRAME AND THE FRONT SUBFRAME HAD FAILED, CAUSING THE RIGHT FRONT (PASSENGER) TIRE TO MOVE OUT OF POSITION AND SITTING AT AN ANGLE. THE DEALER'S ADVICE WAS THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM, AND IT COULD FURTHER FAIL AND RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THEY ADVISED THAT I DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THIS THIS FRONT SUBFRAME WAS REPLACED. THIS IS A REPLACEABLE PIECE - WHICH WAS ORDERED, AND REPLACEMENT PLANNED. THE CAR WAS LEFT WITH THE HYUNDAI DEALER, AND NOT DRIVEN FURTHER. THIS SITUATION IS ESSENTIALLY IDENTICAL TO NHTSA REFERENCE NUMBER 13V354000 FOR THE REAL SUSPENSION FOR SOME HYUNDAI VEHICLES THAT LED TO HYUNDAI RECALL CAMPAIGN 113 APPROVED IN SEPT 2013. HYUNDAI RECORDS SHOW THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED IN ILLINOIS (ONE OF THE APPROVED 113-RECALL STATES) AND IT WAS DRIVEN THERE FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS OR SO. I AM THE SECOND OWNER. HYUNDAI HAS ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12-01-029 DATED OCTOBER 2012 (SUPERSEDES BULLETIN 09-01-020-2) WHICH ADDRESSES THIS FRONT SUBFRAME PROBLEM, BUT, I AM TOLD, IT IS NOT AN APPROVED RECALL. *TR
WHEN I TRY TO FILL THE VEHICLE WITH GAS IT STOPS EVERY FEW CENTS, SIMULAR TO WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL, EVEN WHEN IT IS ON EMPTY. IT TAKES UPWARDS OF 30-45 MINUTES TO FILL THE GAS TANK. SOMETIMES THE GAS GAUGE IS ON LOW WHEN I TRY TO FILL IT UP BUT IT STOPS FILLING SO OFTEN THAT I HAVE TO CHANGE PUMPS TO BE ABLE TO FILL MY TANK TO FULL. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE GAS SPILL OUT THE TOP OF THE TANK JUST BY TRYING TO PUT ENOUGH GAS IN MY VEHICLE TO MAKE IT HOME. I HAVE DONE QUITE A BIT OF RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND IT TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG HYUNDAI VEHICLE. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR TO HAVE A GOOD, RELIABLE VEHICLE FOR OUR DAUGHTER TO DRIVE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE ALLOWING HER TO GO ON A LONG ROAD TRIP WHEN SHE HAS TO SPEND SO LONG FILLING THE CAR WITH GAS. *TR

THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V124000 (SUSPENSION) AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE SERVICE WHEN HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE UPPER STRUT MOUNT HAD PENETRATED THROUGH THE MOUNTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. *TR
RUST REAR CONTROL ARM BROKE FROM SUBFRAME, MADE NOISE ENOUGH TO TAKE TO MECHANIC WHO FOUND PROBLEM WHY IS IT THAT ONLY FRONT SUBFRAME & FRONT CONTROL ARMS WERE INCLUDED IN RECALL? THE REAR PARTS ARE ALSO RUSTING.... PARTS ARE MADE FROM SAME MATERIAL = SAME PROBLEM ... THE RECALL SHOULD INCLUDE BOTH THE FRONT AND THE BACK. WHY WOULD ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE CAR RUST AND NOT THE OTHER RIDICULOUS!! *TR
MY HYUNDAI DEALER HAS REFUSED TO HONOR THEIR 100,000MILES, 10 YEARS WARRANTY" MANY TIMES THAT I BRING THE CAR TO BE FIXED UNDER THE WARRANTY SINCE THE CAR WAS ONLY 8YEARS OLD AND 76,000 MILES SINCE 2008. THEY REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEMS THAT I EXPERIENCED BY SAYING MY CAR IS NOT LISTED IN ANY RECALL CAMPAIGN. UNFORTUNATELY THIS YEAR, ON 10/11/12, I TOOK MY CAR FOR AN ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION FOR 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA AND IT FAILS THE SAFETY INSPECTION. HERE IS WHAT IT SAYS: ***VEHICLE MEMO*** VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE...REAR SUB-FRAME HAS HOLE ROTTED THROUGH... DUE TO THE CURRENT FINANCIAL SITUATION, I DON'T KNOW HOW I WILL GET THIS CAR FIXED BECAUSE THE CAR IS NOW 115,000MILES AND 12 YEARS OLD AND I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL FIX IT. THEY HAVE CONTINUOUSLY REFUSED TO FIX MY CAR UNDER WARRANTY EVEN WHEN IT WAS CLEARLY WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND I WAS LUCKY THEN THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PAY THE FIXES OUT OF POCKET BUT I DON'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF PAYING OUT OF POCKET THIS TIME. WHILE DRIVING OUR 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA MY HUSBAND'S SONATA CAME TO AN SCREECHING HALT IN WHICH HE ALMOST LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, HE WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE OUT OF THE VEHICLE, IT WAS VERY APPARENT THAT THE AXLE HAD BROKEN AND THE DRIVERS FRONT WHEEL HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS RELOCATED TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS FROM HYUNDAI'S FRONT SUB FRAME CORROSION TREATMENT (CORROSION CLASS ACTION CC1) GROUP-CAMPAIGN, NUMBER 11-01-038 DATE-OCTOBER, 2011. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY RECORD THAT THIS RECALL NOTICE WAS SENT TO OUR HOME OF ADDRESS. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V124000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
I WAS HEADING EASTBOUND GOING ABOUT 40 MPH. AN SUV WAS HEADING WESTBOUND AND ABOUT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. THE SUV STRUCK MY VEHICLE AND TOTALED THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I AM SUPPOSED TO HAVE SIDE AND FRONT AIRBAGS. I AM LUCKY I WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT BECAUSE OTHER THAN THAT, I HAD NO OTHER PROTECTION. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10- 35 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE ENGINE WAS IN OPERATION. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V259001 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: WIRING); HOWEVER THE RECALL EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. UPDATED 03/14/12*LJ
I HAVE A 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL SENSORS REPLACED IN THIS CAR ALREADY. IT IS SOMETHING ELECTRICAL OR ANOTHER SENSOR, GO FIGURE. MY WIPERS STOPPED WORKING, AND MY WIPER FLUID PUMP ALSO WENT OUT. HAD LOCAL AUTO SHOP REPLACE WIPER FLUID PUMP, THEY TRIED WHATEVER THEY COULD, THEN THE WIPERS WOULD NOT STOP WORKING,SO THEY TOOK OUT THE RELAY SWITCH.THEN MY WIPERS START WORKING AND I CAN TURN THEM OFF/ON WITH OUT THE RELAY SWITCH IN. MY CAR POWER LOCKS ARE NOT WORKING EITHER, WHICH THEY DID BEFORE. THEN MY CAR WOULD NOT START FOR NEXT THREE/FOUR DAYS, HAD TO HAVE IT JUMPED EACH DAY. SO I THOUGHT IT WAS MY BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR, HAD THOSE TESTED, IT IS NOT EITHER OF THEM. THEN MY CAR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAY STARTS A LITTLE BETTER, BUT STILL BARELY STARTING, AND SOMETIMES WHEN I START MY CAR, THE POWER LOCKS LOCK AUTOMATICALLY. MY RADIO HAS ALWAYS ACTED UP BY TURNING OFF AND ON WHEN IT WANTS AND NOT SAVING THE STATIONS I SAVE EVERYDAY, BUT NOW IT GOES FROM A STATION TO MY CD TURNING ON, JUST BY ITSELF. I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET, THERE IS SERIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL WIRING OR THE SENSORS OF THIS CAR, THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL THIS COULD BE REAL DANGEROUS. CAR HAS BAD RUST OUT PROBLEMS. ON THE METAL FRAME AND SUSPENSION PARTS. TOTAL RUST OUT ON REAR FRAME, ALSO THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS. THE FRONT CRADLE FRAME WAS REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY. UPDATED 10/20/11 *BF
NO SIGNS OF POSSIBLE PROBLEM PRIOR TO BEING UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AND WAS ABLE TO AVOID ADDITIONAL DAMAGE AND INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP THAT DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A SUBFRAME RUST ISSUE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, WHICH DID NOT ALLOW THE CONTROL ARMS TO FUNCTION. *TR

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AXLE COMPLETELY SEPARATED. ALSO, THE SUB-FRAME EXHIBITED EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V124000 (SUSPENSION). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 193,165.
2000 HYUNDAI SONATA, VIN: [XXX]MFG DATE: 06/18/1999 SUB-FRAME FAILURE. CONDITION FOUND BY TIRE RETAILER DURING INSTALLATION AND ALIGNMENT. LOWER CONTROL ARM SEPARATED FROM SUB-FRAME. FORTUNATELY, CONDITION FOUND BEFORE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING. LESS THAN 1 WEEK PRIOR TO DISCOVERY, EXPERIENCED DRIVE AXLE FAILURE. RIGHT DRIVE AXLE REPLACED BUT TECHNICIAN FAILED TO NOTICE OR MAKE ME AWARE FOR SEPARATION OF SUB-FRAME. THIS WAS THE APPARENT CAUSE OF THE DRIVE AXLE FAILURE. THE SUB-FRAME SEPARATION ALLOWED THE DRIVE AXLE TO SHIFT AND SLIP FROM TRANSMISSION CASE. LOWER CONNECTION FOR CONTROL ARM SEPARATED FROM SUB FRAME. THE CONDITION THAT OCCURRED IS IDENTICAL TO RECALL ON 2001-2004 HYUNDAI SONATA MODELS AND THE RECALL ISSUED FOR 1999 AND 2000 MODELS IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED HEAVY WINTER WEATHER HERE IN VA OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS. LARGE AMOUNTS OF SALT HAVE BEEN USED ON OUR ROADS. THE RICHMOND AREA HAS EXCEEDED SALT USE SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE! BUT SALT ISN'T A REQUIREMENT FOR A CONDITION SUCH AS THIS. THE BUILD UP OF WATER ALONE WILL CREATE THIS CONDITION! RUST OCCURS ANY TIME THAT WATER WITH NO DRAINAGE COMBINES WITH STEEL/IRON. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN DEALER SERVICE HAVING THE SUB-FRAME REPLACED! HAD I BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS POTENTIAL CONDITION, I WOULD HAVE TAKEN STEPS TO RESOLVE IT BEFORE IT THREATENED PERSONAL INJURY TO ME. PREVIOUSLY THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE THE SUB FRAME INSPECTED, AT THE TIME THE MECHANIC DID NOT FIND ANY RUST OR CORROSION ON THE FRAME. THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER NEVER INFORMED HER ABOUT THE SUSPENSION RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
I AM WRITING IN REGARD TO MY 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA AND ITS SUB FRAME CORROSION AND THE FRUSTRATION I AM FEELING FROM THIS SITUATION. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON FRIDAY AUGUST 27TH AROUND 520 A.M. AND HAD BEEN ON THE I-10 FREEWAY ABOUT 5 MILES GOING AROUND 65 MILES AN HOUR, THE ROAD SOON HAS A SPEED LIMIT OF 75 MPH ' IT'S A 25 MILE STRETCH OF DESERT AND VERY HEAVILY TRAVELED BY 18 WHEELERS MAKING THE HAUL TO CALIFORNIA (LOS ANGELES). ANYWAY, I HAD JUST PASSED A SEMI AND WAS ABOUT TO PASS ANOTHER (WITH ONE BEHIND ME) WHEN I FELT SOMETHING LIKE METAL ON PAVEMENT AND THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS TERRIBLY WRONG WITH MY FRONT RIGHT TIRE... I DID ALL I COULD TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY (ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE) THE SEMI BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR ENDED ME ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES ON THEIR WAY TO WORK ' ALL I HEARD WAS HORNS, TIRES SQUEALING, AND SAW PEOPLE FLIPPING ME OFF ALL WHILE I WAS TRYING TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY. I WAS SOMEHOW ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD (BARELY OVER THE YELLOW LINE). I TRIED TO LOOK AT THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE BUT THE CAR WAS SO CLOSE TO THE FREEWAY I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN HIT. I DIDN'T KNOW WHETHER TO STAY IN THE CAR OR STAND OUTSIDE (IF THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT EITHER WAY WOULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY). A POLICE MAN CAME BY ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER AND ASKED IF I WAS OKAY AND HAD ME TRY TO START THE CAR ' THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AS IF THE GEARS WERE GONE ' HE USED HIS PATROL CAR TO MOVE THE CAR FROM THE ROADWAY AND DOWN INTO THE DESERT MEDIAN. IT WAS AT THIS POINT THAT WE TOOK A LOOK AND COULD SEE THAT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS FACING OUT APPROXIMATELY 45 DEGREES WITH WHEEL HOUSING AND FENDER DAMAGE. I CALLED A FRIEND, AND A TOW TRUCK AND WENT TO WORK. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC'S HOUSE AND I WAS TOLD AFTER HIS INSPECTION THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM COMPLETELY SEPARATED/DETACHED FROM THE SUB FRAME, WITH CHUNKS OF THE FRAME STILL ATTACHED TO THE CONTROL ARM HARDWARE (NOTICEABLE SEVERE RUST/CORROSION) WHEN THE LOWER CONTROL ARM DETACHED FROM THE SUB FRAME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUB FRAME WAS CORRODED AND HAD FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 159,150 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 159,200.

THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE TOWING AND REPAIR COST OF DAMAGES ASSOCIATED TO THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE RECALL DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
I WAS USING THE AS NORMAL, THEN THE CAR BEGAN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT I NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT, BUT AS I WAS PULLING INTO A STORE I HEARD A POP AND THEN THE RIGHT WHEEL WOULD NOT ROLL. I THEN CONTACTED A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE IT TOWED. I GOT THE CAR A HYUNDAI SONATA LIFTED ON JACKS AND JACK STANDS AN NOTICED RUST AND CORROSION ON THE SUBFRAME AND SEEN THAT THE ARMS CONNECTING THE WHEEL COMPONENTS TO THE FRAME HAD BROKEN. *TR
OUR 17 YR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 35-40 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND THE ABILITY TO STEER THE CAR WAS NON EXISTENT. SHE FOUGHT WITH THE STEERING TO TRY TO GET IT OFF THE VERY BUSY ROAD WITHOUT SUCCESS. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC WHO FOUND THE SUB FRAME HAD RUSTED OUT. THE CAR THEN HAD TO BE TOWED AT OUR EXPENSE TO THE DEALER. WE NOW HAVE TO RENT A CAR FOR THE DURATION THE SONATA IS IN THE SHOP. HYUNDAI IS NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR TOWING OR RENTAL EXPENSES, OR ANY OTHER DAMAGE TO THE CAR. THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED IN APRIL OF 2009, IT IS NOW OCTOBER 2009, WHY WERE WE NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS VERY SERIOUS RECALL? THANK HEAVENS NOTHING SERIOUS HAPPENED TO OUR DAUGHTER. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO TAKE MORE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS I FOR ONE FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION SUIT BROUGHT UPON HYUNDAI AND COVER EVERY CAR IN ALL STATES REGARDLESS OF "SALT" AND MAKE RESTITUTION FOR ALL EXPENSES INCURRED, SUCH AS TOWING, CAR RENTAL AND ALL OTHER VEHICLE EXPENSES THAT WERE CAUSED AS A RESULT OF TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. BOTTOM LINE, THEY ARE NEGLIGENT BY NOT SENDING ALL OWNERS OF RECORD A RECALL NOTICE!!!! SHE WAS ONLY ABLE TO DRIVE STRAIGHT WHEN SHE FORCED THE STEERING WHEEL IN THAT DIRECTION. SHE EXPECTED THE FAILURE TO BE RELATED TO THE ALIGNMENT; HOWEVER, A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS COVERED WITH RUST, AND COMPLETELY BROKEN IN HALF ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. THE PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARMS WERE ALSO SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. SHE HAS BEEN UNABLE TO NOTIFY THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. PHOTOS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 130,000.
I PULLED OUT INTO THE ROAD FROM A STOP SIGN AND MY CAR LOSS POWER AS THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC ALMOST COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. I HAD TO COME COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND STOP, AS I RESUMED THE CAR BEGAN JERKING AND SLOWING RESUMING SPEED. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED WITH MY KIDS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT. THE ALSO DID THE SAME THING AGAIN AS I BEGIN TO DRIVE UP A INCLINE/HILL, IT LOSS POWER. I EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST 3-4 TIMES A WEEK. I HAVE RESEARCHED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA, V-6 CARS AND CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THAT STATED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT I HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS DONE FROM PREVIOUS RECALLS. I INFORMED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSONNEL THAT I HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATIONS IN THE MAIL REGARDING RECALLS. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS MY OWN. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME IN RESOLVING THIS ISSUE? I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AND WHEN I PRESSED MY BRAKES MY DRIVING AXLE SEPARATED FROM MY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. AFTER THAT HAPPENED A MECHANIC LIFTED MY CAR UP AND WE SAW THAT THE FRAME WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY COVERED WITH RUST. I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER FOR THE COMPANY THAT MAKES THE VEHICLE WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE FRAME IS UNDER RECALL AND IS TO BE REPLACED. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THE BOLTS HAD SEIZED TO THE FRAME BECAUSE OF THE RUST AND THE ONLY WAY TO REPLACE THE FRAME WOULD BE TO CUT THE BOLTS OFF. BY DOING SO OTHER PARTS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED RESULTING IN FEES COMING TO A TOTAL OF $3500, WHICH IS MORE THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR. BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS UNDER RECALL, I WAS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT ALL DAMAGE TO THE CAR RESULTING FROM THE RECALLED FRAME WOULD BE COVERED BUT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO COVER THE PARTS AND LABOR RESULTING FROM THE RUSTY FRAME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. RECALL NUMBER 00V259001, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, WIRING WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED. RECENTLY, THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
I OWN A 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR AT ABOUT 20-30 MPH MY SUB-FRAME COLLAPSED WHICH CAUSED MY FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE TO COME COMPLETELY OFF. WHEN THE SUBFRAME COLLAPSED IT FELL ON MY AXLE WHICH DAMAGED. WHILE THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SUBFRAME MY AXLE WAS NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGHT THE SUBFRAME COLLAPSING IS A DIRECT RESULT OF MY TIRE AND AXLE DETACHING FROM MY CAR. AFTER VOICING MY CONCERN HYUNDAI STATED TO ME THAT THEY DO NOT COVER SUBSEQUENTLY DAMAGE AND THAT WAS NOTHING ELSE TO BE SAID OR DONE. THIS TO ME IS A BUNCH OF CRAP! IF THE SUBFRAME WAS NOT DEFECTIVE I WOULD OF NEVER ENDURED THESE PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR UNTIL NOW. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI'S CONSUMER RELATIONS AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING NO ONE IS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. I WILL CONTACT MY ATTORNEY GENERAL ABOUT THIS. THIS IS NOT FAIR! TRANSMISSION, AXLES, TIMING BELT, ALTERNATOR, STARTER, BOTH BALL JOINTS, BOTH TIE ROD ENDS, BOTH WHEEL BEARINGS, AIR FLOW SENSOR - TWICE. THIS PROBLEM IS ONE HYUNDAI NEEDS TO FIX. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME DETACHED FROM THE BODY DUE TO RUST CORROSION. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V124000 (SUSPENSION) WAS REFERENCED. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS DISPLEASED TO KNOW THAT A WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS REQUIRED IN CONJUNCTION TO THE RECALL REPAIR. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WOULD NOT ASSUME FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
