MY AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS. I'VE LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THAT THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT FOR HYUNDAI'S. ALSO, MY ESC LIGHT GOES ON AND SOMETIMES STAYS ON. AGAIN ANOTHER COMPLAINT WITH THIS CAR. BOTH ARE SAFETY ISSUES THAT SEEM TO BE NEGLIGENT ON THE MANUFACTURES PART. WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN LOGGED THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR.
THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL OFF WARNING IS COMING ON FREQUENTLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
I HAVE AN AIRBAG LIGHT THAT HAS BEEN ON AND THE DEALER RAN THE CODE WHICH CAME BACK B1448 WHICH IS THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR. THEY RECALLED SUBSTANTIALLY ALL 2006-2008 SONATAS FOR THIS WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM, BUT SAID MINE IS EXCLUDED DESPITE IT BEING EXACTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROBLEM YEARS. I HAVE AN AIRBAG SYSTEM THAT WONT DEPLOY DUE TO A VERY WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM BY HYUNDAI AND THEY WONT FIX IT.
ENGINE MAKES A VERY LOUD NOISE AND CANNOT BE USED. THIS CAR WAS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. LOUD NOISE IN CYLINDER AND CRANK SHAFT. HYUNDAI SAYS ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE WHO WOULD BE LEFT STRANDED OR IN A BAD SITUATION. HYUNDAI DOES ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM, BUT SO FAR NO RECALL.
SAME PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED IN 14V415000 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ RECALL. WHILE DRIVING THE ESC WARNING LIGHT ON, THEN INTERMITTENT BATTERY + SEAT BELT INDICATING ALTERNATOR FAILURE, CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVER. CAN CAUSE SUDDEN FAILURE. THIS DEFECT IS NOT ISOLATED TO THE VERACRUZ AND PERHAPS THE RECALL SHOULD BE BROADENED
3 OF MY FOUR EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BROKE OFF IN MY HAND WHILE TRYING TO OPEN THE DOORS. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN NJ. I SEARCHED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AFTER THE SECOND ONE BROKE AND SEEING MANY OTHER SONATAS WITH MISSING DOOR HANDLES BUT THERE WASN'T ONE. I READ THEY ARE MADE OF PLASTIC. I ALSO READ OF PEOPLE BEING TOLD IT WAS FROM THE COLD. HOWEVER I MOVED TO FLORIDA 2 YRS AGO AND 2 MORE HANDLES HAVE BROKEN OFF IN MY HAND SINCE MOVING HERE. ONE IN JULY OF 2015 AND ONE LAST WEEK IN JUNE. ITS BEEN 85-90 DEGREES. SO THE COLD WEATHER IS CLEARLY NOT THE CAUSE. IF IM EVER IN AN ACCIDENT OR ANYONE ELSE AND HAVE TO GET MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE BACK SEAT. IT WOULD BE AN ISSUE FOR ANYONE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THERE ARE HUNDRENDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT PROBLEM ALL OVER THE INTERNET. SOMETHING REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE TO FIX THIS. ITS NOT JUST THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE THAT HAS TO BE REPLACED ITS THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY THE DOOR HAS TO BE TAKEN APART AND IT IS NOT CHEAP FOR ALL THE PARTS NEEDED TO FIX JUST ONE HANDLE AND THE COST OF PAYING A SHOP IS NOT AFFORDABLE FOR MOST PEOPLE, AND I CANT DRIVE AROUND WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND NO DOOR HANDLES.
VISORS ON BOTH SIDES FALL AND OBSTRUCT VISION CAR HAS ONLY 28000 MILES AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON , CONCERN IT WILL SUDDENLY DEPLOY. THERE'S LOOSE SUSPENSION BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND REAR LIGHTS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED ALREADY FEARFUL IT MAY BE A SIGN THERE MAY BE SOMETHING WRONG YET I HAVEN'T BEEN CONTACTED BY MANUFACTURE
AIRBAG LIGHT ON DRIVER'S SIDE DASH ILLUMINATED. TOOK TO MECHANIC; CODE READ THAT IT WAS THE OCCUPANT SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT (KNOWN ISSUE) AND COVERED BY HYUNDAI. TOOK CAR TO HYUNDAI DEALER TO HAVE SEAT REMOVED, SHIPPED TO CALIFORNIA, FOR REPAIR. DEALER STATES THAT AIRBAG LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF ONCE SEAT IS REPLACED; IT ALSO NEEDS CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THIS, TOO, IS A KNOWN/FREQUENT ISSUE WITH THIS AGE/MAKE/MODEL, HOWEVER IT'S NOT COVERED BY HYUNDAI. WILL COST $400 TO REPLACE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IF IT'S OCCURRING FREQUENTLY ENOUGH TO FIND NUMEROUS FORUMS ONLINE WITH PEOPLE COMPLAINING, IT SHOULD BE A COVERED/WARRANTIED SERVICE PERFORMED BY HYUNDAI. SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SHELL OUT $400 FOR REPAIRS. VERY UPSETTING! :(

WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPIED, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS FAULTY. THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT THE SEAT BELTS RANDOMLY ACTIVATED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
TAKATA RECALL: AIRBAG LIGHT COMING ON FOR NO REAL REASON AND NOW DEALE/MECHANICR IS QUOTING A HUGE AMOUNT TO REPLACE THE SENSOR. WHEN I TRIED TO SEARCH ONLINE, IT LOOKS LIKE HUNDREDS OF HYUNDAI SONATA CUSTOMERS HAD A SAME ISSUE. HOW COULD GOVERNMENT ALLOWED THEM TO SELL THESE CARS WHEN THEY ARE NOT RECALLING THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS ?
THE CAR HAD IT'S BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH REPLACED UNDER RECALL IN 2013. TODAY THE SWITCH WENT OUT AGAIN. THE CAR HAS NO BRAKE LIGHTS, BUT ALL OTHER LISTS WORK FINE. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND VERIFIED THE RECALL REPAIR AND ASKED IF THE REPAIR THIS TIME WOULD BE COVERED. IT WON'T AND THE CAR IS WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS TILL FIXED
THE ESC LIGHTS COMES ON FROM TIME TO TIME. THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING FROM. CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE SOME KIND OF RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE
THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING METALLIC CLICKING AND KNOCKING NOISES ABOUT A WEEK AGO. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND BY THEN IT STARTED SQUEAKING AND SQUEALING. HE SAID IT WAS CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND ASKED IF I HAD EVER LET IT RUN OUT OF OIL, WHICH I NEVER DID. WHEN DRIVING TO MY MECHANIC, LOST A LOT OF POWER ON AN ENTRANCE RAMP TO HIGHWAY AND ALMOST GOT IN AN ACCIDENT. MY MECHANIC NEVER SEEN IN AN ENGINE WITH < 200,000 MILES UNLESS AN OIL EVENT, SO HE BELIEVES THIS WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. IT IS INTERESTING THAT THE 2011 AND 2012 SONATA WAS RECALLED FOR EXACTLY THIS TYPE OF ISSUE AS WELL. I WONDER IF THE PROBLEMS WERE ALSO EXISTING ON PREVIOUS YEAR MODELS, SUCH AS THE 2007 MODEL.
THE SENSOR FOR THE SEAT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE IS NOT WORKING AND IS GIVING PROBLEM
TAKATA RECALL. ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS THE ESC LIGHT COMES ON OCCASIONALLY WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION AND CAUSES CAR TO APPLY BRAKES ON ITS OWN.
"TANAKA RECALL " THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE, INTERMITTENT OCCASIONS. WHEN DECELERATING, THE STEERING WHEEL "STICKS" IN THE STRAIGHT-AHEAD POSITION. IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN & NAVIGATE A HIGHWAY EXIT THAT CURVES. YOU HAVE TO FIGHT WITH THE WHEEL AND PULL HARD TO MAKE IT TURN, AT WHICH POINT IT FEELS LIKE THE WHEEL "UNLOCKS" AND TURNS FREELY AGAIN. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE TAKEN IT FOR SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES , AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG (NOW THAT I SEE OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE, I PLAN ON SCHEDULING SERVICE AGAIN). I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE UPPER CONTROL ARMS ON BOTH SIDES IN FRONT DUE TO THE SQUIRTING SOUND EVERTIME I GO OVER HOLE OR SPEED BUMP AND THE PASSENGER SIDE IS SLOWLY HANGING. I TOO HAD ISSUES WITH THE ESC AND JERKING AND PULLING NOT LONG AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR, BUT THOSE ISSUES WEREN'T ADDRESSED OR FIXED BY THE MECHANIC. (AFTER MANY TRIPS TO THE SHOP & SEVERAL ACCIDENTS LATER) MY HYUNDAI SONATA 2007 NEEDS HELP.
FOR A LONG TIME THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR HAS STOPPED WORKING AND THIS DEACTIVATED THE AIRBAG, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, I WENT TO THE DEALER BUT THEY SAY THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND I HAVE TO PAY $ 1600, TO REPAIR IT. IM STIIL USING MY CAR I NEED TO WORK
THE POWER DOOR LOCKS FREQUENTLY FAIL TO WORK WITH THE FOB OR THE INTERIOR SWITCH. I TRAVEL WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN AND AN UNLOCKED DOOR COULD LET THEM OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE VEHICLE MOVING AT SPEED.

WHEN THE CONSUMER PURCHASED A BATTERY FROM A MECHANIC, HE TOOK OUT A READER AND READ THE CODE. UNFORTUNATELY, IT WAS NOT ONE OF THE TWO CODES, THE DEALER HAD GIVEN HIM. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT FUNCTION AS LONG AS THE LIGHT REMAINED ON. UPDATED 05/17/16.*JB
TRAVELING AT 50 MPH HIGHWAY OFF RAMP. A RATTLING IN THE ENGINE - BROKEN ROD - LOSS OF POWER AND NO ACCELERATION.
ESC OFF LIGHT COMES ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS STOP FUNCTIONING/LIGHTING WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN BOTH THE DRIVE AND REVERSE POSITIONS, THE VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. DURING THE FAILURE, THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO APPLY EXTRA FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ERNHEART HYUNDAI (10401 WEST PAPAGO FREEWAY IN AVONDALE, AZ 85323), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CLEANED AND A MAINTENANCE TUNE-UP WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
WHEN I TURN THE VEHICLE / LIGHTS OFF, OPEN THE DOOR AND LEAVE, THE PARKING LIGHTS OF THIS VEHICLE STAY ON. THE CAR BATTERY HAS DIED SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
A LOT OF TIMES THAT I AM DRIVING, EITHER PULLING OFF OR WHEN IM AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED AND PUSH GAS TO GAIN MORE SPEED (AS IF GOING AROUND TURN), THE ESC LIGHT WILL COME ON AND MY CAR WILL SHAKE AS IT IDLES. THE GAS PEDAL STOPS WORKING WHEN THIS ,LIGHT COMES ON AND WHEN I PUSH ON THE BRAKES, THEY ARE HARD. AS MY CAR COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP, IT SHAKES THE ENTIRE TIME. THEN WHEN I TURN MY CAR OFF, IT SOMETIMES GOES AWAY BUT IT SOMETIMES STAYS ON AND MY CAR WON'T MOVE. BUT IT HAPPENS A LOT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I ALWAYS HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND RESTART IT. IT HAPPENS IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS AND ONE TIME GETTING ONTO THE INTERSTATE. BEING A FEMALE AND HAVING THIS PROBLEM AT NIGHT IS SCARY. IT STARTED ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO AND HAS BEEN DOING IT A LOT WITHIN THE PAST TWO WEEKS.

AFTER STARTING THE IGNITION, THE RED "AIR BAG" LIGHT NEAR ODOMETER STAYS LIT. ORANGE "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" LIGHT STAYS LIT EVEN WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THESE LIGHTS REMAIN ON REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE CAR IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION. I HAD THIS PROBLEM ONCE BEFORE A FEW YEARS AGO. THE DEALER REMOVED THE PASSENGER SEAT AND SENT IT OFF TO BE FIXED. THE ISSUE ALSO HAPPENS PERIODICALLY IF SOMETHING GETS STUCK UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE WIRES AND CONNECTORS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT ARE EXPOSED. HOWEVER, THIS TIME THERE IS NOTHING STUCK UNDER THE SEAT AND THE AIR BAG LIGHTS REMAIN ON.
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF. IN ADDITION TO THAT, PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT CONSTANTLY BLINKS ON/OFF, EVEN WHEN NOBODY IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN A ACCIDENT.
MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT FLASHES WHILE DRIVING ALONG WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON IN THE INTERIOR DASH, WITH OR WITHOUT A PASSENGER THE SEAT BELT LIGHTS GOES OFF WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONTINUOUS.
THE CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN CITY STREETS OF HIALEAH FLORIDA ON A 4 WAY STOP(MY SON WAS DRIVING) AND WAS DECLARED TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE COMPANY NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. HE HIT MID DRIVERS SIDE OF A A FLAT BED TRUCK AND FRONT OF MY CAR WAS CRUSHED. THANK GOD MY SON IS OK. WITH THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE ON THE CAR ONE OF THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. I HAVE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO HYUNDAI AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMMENT FROM THEM YET

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,500.
MY ESC OFF LIGHT ONLY COMES ON AT NIGHT WHEN I START MY CAR AND DRIVE. MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF UNLESS I SHUT MY CAR OFF. I ALSO FEEL THE BRAKE PEDAL PULLING AT TIMES WHEN THIS LIGHT IS ON. IT IS A BIG HAZZARD TO ME, ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE MY DAUGHTER WITH ME BECAUSE NOONE KNOWS WHEN YOUR STOPPING BECAUSE THE LIGHTS WONT GO OFF. I REFUSE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING OUT OF POCKET WHEN ITS A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM. I CALLED DEALERSHIPS AND THEY WONT DO NOTHING FOR IT UNLESS THEY HAVE A STATEMENT FOR IT OR RECALL NOTICE. IVE SEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS, NOT ONLY MYSELF. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY.
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FOR MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN DROOPING FOR OVER A YEAR. IT WOULD HANG JUST LOW ENOUGH TO OBSTRUCT MY VISION THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD, BUT ALSO BLOCK VIEW OF THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. FOR SOME TIME, I WAS ABLE TO WORK AROUND THE PROBLEM, SHIFTING THE VISOR BACKWARDS AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE CLEAR VISION. THIS MORNING, HOWEVER, I ENTERED MY VEHICLE TO FIND THAT THE VISOR HAD COMPLETELY BROKEN. NOW, THERE IS NO TENSION TO HOLD THE VISOR IN PLACE AGAINST THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE OR THE WINDSHIELD, IT MERELY HANGS DOWN. THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO SAFELY DRIVE MY VEHICLE, AS MY VIEW OF THE ROAD IS COMPLETELY OBSTRUCTED. SHIFTING THE VISOR OFF TO THE SIDE ONLY SERVES TO BLOCK ANY AND ALL VIEW OF MY BLIND SPOTS.
THE ESC DEACTIVATES ITSELF AND THE LIGHT COMES ON WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING AND WILL NOT ACTIVATE ITSELF UNTIL THE AUTO IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. BECAUSE THE ESC TURNS ITSELF OFF IT PROBABLY COULD CAUSE THE AUTO TO SKID OUT OF CONTROL. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, CHEST, AND JAW. THE CONTACT'S CHEST STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL DUE TO THE RUPTURING OF THE AIR BAG. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. A DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE DRIVING ALONE THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT LIGHT KEEPS BLINKING AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN THE DRIVERS CONSOLE CAME ON AND WONT TURN OFF
"ESC OFF" LIGHT TURNS ON AFTER ENGINE STARTUP, OR DRIVING A FEW MILES. IT FIXES ITSELF WHEN ENGINE IS TURNED OFF, THEN TURNED ON AGAIN. ESC ON/OFF SWITCH HAS NO EFFECT ON THE LIGHT. IT OCCURS FOR A NUMBER OF TIMES A DAY. IT WOULD BE UNSAFE IF ESC IS TRULY TURNED OFF WHEN WE NEED IT. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM FIXED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL. IT CAME BACK A FEW YEARS LATER.
AT THE TIRE REPLACEMENT SERVICE AT ABOUT 61K MILES (VERY GENTLE, FIRST OWNER, STILL HAD MORE THAN 2/32 TREAD LEFT ON THE FACTORY TIRES AT 61K MILES) I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THE REAR BREAK PADS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WITH IN 2 DAYS I TOOK THE CAR TO AAMCO SINCE THERE WAS A $35 BRAKE PAD SERVICE DEAL. I WAS TOLD AFTER INSPECTION THAT A CALIPER PISTON IS SEIZED AND SO THE CALIPERS, THE DAMAGED ROTORS AND OF COURSE THE BRAKE PADS HAVE TO BE REPLACED - PREFERABLY FOR BOOTH RARE WHEELS, IN ORDER TO HAVE SIMILAR BRAKING CHARACTERISTICS. WHILE IT IS COMMON SENSE THAT THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WOULD WEAR FASTER, THE AAMCO FOLKS WERE SURPRISED TO FIND THE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM IN SUCH A BAD CONDITION WHILE THE ORIGINAL FRONT BRAKES WERE STILL GOOD. PER THEIR OPINION IT IS MOSTLY DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I CALLED HYUNDAI WARRANTY IMMEDIATELY, THEY PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER, BUT I WAS TOLD I WAS OUT OF LUCK SINCE I AM JUST PAST 60K MILES AND ALSO THERE IS NO RECALL SPECIFIC TO REAR BRAKES THAT WILL ADDRESS MY CONCERN. WITH THIS I THOUGHT I LOST ALL MY BRAGGING RIGHTS ABOUT HYUNDAI - ON THEIR RELIABILITY AND VALUE FOR THE MONEY. MOREOVER, THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE SINCE ON A 1997 NISSAN ALTIMA WHICH I OWN, I STILL HAVE 25% LEFT ON THE REAR BRAKES AT 125K MILES. SHORTLY LATER I FOUND SCORES OF SONATA OWNERS WHO COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ISSUE IN THE INTERNET FORUMS AS WELL AS NHTSA SITE. I ALSO FOUND COMPLAINTS ABOUT SUN VISORS NOT STAYING IN PLACE, HANGING LOOSELY, A HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO BUT NEVER PAYED MUCH ATTENTION TO IT. CURRENTLY I AM NOT IN A POSITION TO SHELL OUT OVER $600 DOLLARS TO GET THE REAR BRAKE ISSUE FIXED TO BE ABLE TO TAKE MYSELF AND MY FAMILY SAFELY IN THE CAR. I HOPE MY COMPLAINT BREACHES THE THRESHOLD AND NHTSA TAKES ACTION TO HAVE HYUNDAI FIX THE ISSUE AT HYUNDAI'S COST ASAP. THANKS FOR PROVIDING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY TO LOG THE COMPLAINT.
I WENT TO A LOCAL GARAGE TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INSPECTED WHICH PASSED WITH NO PROBLEM. AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE I NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON AND NOTIFIED THE ATTENDANT WHO SHRUGGED IT OFF AND SAID IT WILL PROBABLY GO OFF ON IT'S OWN. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT HAS BEEN OVER A WEEK AND THE LIGHT IS STILL ON. FROM EVERYTHING I HAVE SEEN, THIS IS AN ON-GOING PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND IT SOUNDS LIKE A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX TO THE PROBLEM. IT IS ALSO A DANGER BECAUSE THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH. I THINK THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD DEFINATELY DO A RECALL ON THIS ASAP.
ESC OFF LIGHT CONTINES TO COME ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION LOCKS INTO PARK AND WONT RELEASE THE TRANSMISSION TO GO INTO DRIVE WITHOUT PUSHING THE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON. THEN ONCE IN DRIVE YOU HAVE TO PUSH THE BUTTON AGAIN TO PUT THE CAR BACK INTO PARK.
OIL POURS INTO MY DRIVEWAY, OR WHEREVER ELSE WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED. I KEEP PUTTING OIL IN AND IT COMES OUT.
HEAD LIGHTS BULBS KEEP BLOWING OUT. THEY WILL LAST ABOUT A MONTH OR MORE. ALL OF THE HEAD LIGHTS BULBS ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT BLOW ABOUT THE SAME TIME. IT DOES NOT MATTER DRIVING OR SITTING STILL OR THE CAR HAS BEEN TURNED OFF.
THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) LIGHT OFF WILL APPEAR AND DISAPPEAR FROM THE DASHBOARD.
BOUNCES UP AND DOWN IN THE FRONT
THE PASSENGER VISOR BROKE CREATING A VISUAL HAZARD BECAUSE IT WILL NOT FOLD UP TO THE CEILING. IT REMAINS IN THE DOWN POSITION. IT JUST SNAPPEF WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ADJUST IT. THERE ARE RECALLS ON OTHER VISORS THAT HAVE DONE THE SAME THING. THIS HAPPENED TO THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR 5 YEARS AGO AND WAS COVERED INDER WARRANTY. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS A DEFECT IN DESIGN WHICH CAUSES THE VISOR TO SNAP.
MY BRAKE LIGHTS NO LONGER FUNCTION. MY "ESC OFF" LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. I HAD A MECHANIC SCAN MY CAR REGARDING THE AFOREMENTIONED ISSUES AND THE CODE THAT DISPLAYED WAS "P0504". AFTER RESEARCHING THIS CODE I HAVE DISCOVERED: THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) HAS DETECTED A FAULT IN CORRELATION BETWEEN THE TWO BRAKE SWITCH CIRCUITS. THIS VERY PROBLEM HAS RESULTED A MASSIVE RECALL FOR HYUNDAI & KIA VEHICLES. UNFORTUNATELY, MY VEHICLE IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL ACCORDING TO THE VIN LOOK UP FOR THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN (110). I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT!!! *TR
ESC LIGHT COMES ON INDICATING THE ESC SYSTEM IS INOPERABLE. THIS IS USUALLY PRECEDED BY THE FEELING THAT THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED WITHOUT MY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE FEELS SLUGGISH FOLLOWING THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ESC LIGHT. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. *TR
MY 07 SONATA HAD A RECALL FOR AIRBAG ISSUE WHICH I TOOK TO LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE CORRECTED. THE DEALER HAD TO SHIP THE SEAT CUSHION OUT TO ADD PADDING TO FIX AIRBAG LIGHT STAYING ON. AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT MUST BE AN ISSUE WITH THE SEAT. I'VE BEEN WAITING 2 WEEKS FOR HYUNDAI TO CONTACT THE DEALER TO SEE IF THE WILL COVER THE COST TO REPLACE THE SEAT DUE TO THE AIRBAG ISSUE. MY SPOUSE DRIVES THIS CAR WITH MY KIDS AND IT'S UNSAFE TO HAVE TO BE DRIVING AROUND LIKE THIS WHILE THEY TAKE THEIR SWEET TIME. *TR
2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER STEERING PRESSURE HOSE LEAKS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED DUE TO THE POWER STEERING HOSE LEAKING, IT LEAKED ONTO THE SERPENTINE BELT AND IDLER PULLEY AND DAMAGE BOTH OF THEM. *JB
