ON MAY 17TH, 2014 I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 95 IN BROWARD COUNTY, FL. A DRUNK DRIVER HIT ME ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY TRUNK THEN HIT THE CEMENT MEDIAN THEN CAME BACK AND HIT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DRIVER SIDE AND BACK DRIVER SIDE DOOR, THEN HIT THE MEDIAN AGAIN CAME BACK TOWARDS MY CAR AND FLIPPED AND HIT THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. SO BASICALLY THE WHOLE LEFT DRIVER SIDE OF MY CAR IS SMASHED IN. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT WHEN THIS ACCIDENT DID OCCUR. WHAT MY CONCERN IS, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT STATES THE NOTABLE FEATURES INCLUDED ON THIS VEHICLE IS SIX AIRBAGS STANDARD. NOT ONE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND IF I WASN'T WEARING MY SEAT BELT I WOULD HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND PROBABLY LOST MY LIFE. MY ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF MY BODY IS DAMAGED AND THE MORE SEVERE INJURY IS TO MY LEFT LEG AND FOOT. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MY LEFT BIG TOE, ALL OTHER FOUR TOES HAVE NO FEELING IN THEM AND MY FOOT IS DEFORMED. I DO PLAN ON TAKING THIS ISSUE TO MY ATTORNEY THAT IS HANDLING THE ACCIDENT CASE FOR ME AND HOPEFULLY HYUNDAI HAS A VERY CLEAR EXPLANATION FOR WHY NOT ONE OF THE 6 AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR
THE ENGINE FAILED WITH A BENT ROD IN THE ENGINE. ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *JS
A CHILD WAS SEATED IN A CAR SEAT WHILE WINDOW WAS PARTIALLY LOWERED , THE WINDOW WAS RAISED AND CRUSHED CHILD'S FINGERS. *TR
I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE I SEE OTHER MODELS WITH THE SAME ENGINE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. MY VALVE COVER GASKET LEAKED OIL ONTO THE ALTERNATOR AND CAUSED IT TO FAIL PREMATURELY. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN APRIL OF 2014 AND HAS NOW HAPPENED AGAIN IN JUNE OF 2015. OTHER MODELS UTILIZING THE SAME ENGINE HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. WILL THIS MODEL BE RECALLED?
THE CAR WAS MAKING A NOISE WHEN I STARTED IT. THE NOISES GOT WORSE AS I DROVE TO WORK. THEN THE CAR DIED TWICE WHILE IN ROUTE ON THE INTERSTATE. THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. THE HEAT GAUGE WAS NORMAL. I NOTICES SMOKE IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. I TURNED ON THE HAZARD FLASHERS AND BEGAN TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. WHEN I STOPPED THE SMOKE GOT WORSE. I CALLED WORK. THE DOTD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SHOWED UP. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WALKED BACK TOWARD HIM. HE ASKED WHERE MY PURSE WAS. I TURNED BACK TO THE CAR AND NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HE GOT MY VALUABLES OUT OF THE CAR, CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE. THE FLAMES WERE SEVERAL FEET HIGH BY THE TIME THEY GOT THE FIRE OUT. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK. A FELLOW WORKER CAME AND TOOK ME TO WORK. *JS
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER AND DOES NOT GO OUT. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER (HARDIN HYUNDAI, ANAHEIM, CA) TO HAVE IT RESET BUT IT HAS REAPPEARED. THEY SAID THEY CANNOT IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM FROM A DIAGNOSTIC READING AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE EFFECTS OF THE WARNING. *TR
THIS CAR HAS THE FRONT VALVE COVER GASKET LEAK THAT OTHER HYUNDAI VEHICLES WITH THE V6 ENGINE. IT ONLY LEAKS RIGHT IN THE SAME CORNER AS ALL THE OTHERS AND IT LEAKS RIGHT ON TO THE ALTERNATOR. I AM ON MY SECOND MAYBE THIRD ALTERNATOR. I AHVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE IT NOT CAUSE ANY INJURY'S SO FAR.
I GOT INTO MY CAR AND CAME TO STOP SIGN AND BRAKES WERE FAILING GOING TO THE FLOOR! MY MECHANIC SHOWED THE BRAKE HOSES TO ME AND SAID THE WAY THEY ARE INSTALLED THEY WILL JUST RUB A HOLE IN THEM. I HAD A HOLE IN ONE AND THE OTHER SIDE WAS CLOSE TO A HOLE RUB THRU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH AND GOING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FELL DOWN INTO THE LINE OF SIGHT. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND FAILED TO CLOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,690.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SUN VISOR FAILED TO REMAIN CLOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,909.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR SPONTANEOUSLY FELL DOWN BLOCKING MY VIEW. THE VISOR WOULD NO LONGER STAY IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE MODEL YEAR OF MY VEHICLE. HYUNDAI HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT FOR NUMEROUS STATES, BUT APPARENTLY, IT DOESN'T COVER MY STATE AND VEHICLE. THEY ARE REFUSING TO REPAIR THE VISOR AT NO COST TO ME, EVEN THOUGH THIS APPEARS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. IT'S CONCERNING THERE IS NO RECALL THAT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
FIRST EXPERIENCED TWO OCCURRENCES OF PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING THAT HAD TO BE REPAIRED BY REPLACING BOTTOM OF SEAT AND REPROGRAMMING. THEN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON FOR A YEAR. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IT MAY BE THE PRETENSIONER OR IT MAY BE SOMETHING ELSE AND TO EXPECT TO PAY ABOUT $600. *TR
DURING A SNOW STORM, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A STOP. MY BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE (AS IF SOMETHING WAS KEEPING THE BRAKE SHOES FROM ENGAGING ONTO THE WHEEL). THERE ALSO WAS A LOUD CLATTER. I DISENGAGED MY ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL AND WAS ONLY THEN ABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES. TODAY I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE STOP SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I SAW HYUNDAI HAD A RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN #: 09V-122 WHICH WAS PUBLISHED APRIL 15, 2009. . ACCORDING TO MY VIN HISTORY, MY STOP LAMP SWITCH HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPLACED ON 4/4/09 BY MALONE HYUNDAI. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI CORPORATION AND ASKED IF PERHAPS MY STOP SWITCH, SINCE BEING REPLACED BEFORE THE RECALL, MIGHT HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH ALSO A DEFECTIVE STOP SWITCH. THE CASE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE 5 YEAR, 60,000 MILE WARRANTY ON PARTS WAS 5 YEARS, 60,000 MILES FROM THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS FIRST DRIVEN NEW OFF THE LOT AND HYUNDAI WOULD NOT REPLACE MY DEFECTIVE STOP SWITCH UNLESS I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD CERTIFY THAT MY SWITCH WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. ON SAFERCAR.GOV, YOU HAVE SEVERAL DOCUMENTS PUBLISHED RELATED TO THIS RECALL. IN THE DOCUMENT ENTITLED "OWNER NOTIFICATION LETTER", PAGE 2 WHICH IS A NOTIFICATION TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP & SERVICE MANAGERS DATED 6/24/2009, PARAGRAPH 5 SAYS: "ALL HYUNDAI DEALERS WILL BE SHIPPED A SUPPLY OF STOP LAMP SWITCHES..." WHICH IMPLIES ALL EXISTING STOCK OF THESE SWITCHES WERE POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE! YOUR ASSISTANCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED IN GETTING HYUNDAI TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT! *TR
SUNVISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DROPPED DOWN WITHOUT A WARNING AND WILL NOT GO BACK TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION AND CONTINUES TO DROP DOWN. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND VISOR DROPS DOWN WITHOUT A WARNING AND BLOCKS DRIVER'S VIEW AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL TO HAVE THIS FIX. *TR
THE SUN VISORS ON THESE CARS (AS WELL AS 2006 AND 2008 MODELS, I BELIEVE) ARE DEFECTIVE. THEY DO NOT STAY UP, WHICH CAUSES VISIBILITY ISSUES. THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE AMONG SONATA OWNERS, AND HYUNDAI HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR YEARS. THEY REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL, AND DEALERSHIPS WANT OVER $100 PER VISOR TO FIX. *TR
BOTH OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLES BROKE OFF. *TR
DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATED SINCE I PURCHASED IT 3 YEARS AGO. IT PULLS A B1701 CODE INVOLVING A BAD SEAT BELT SENSOR. $500+ TO FIX.
HYUNDAI HAD RECALL FOR AIRBAG LIGHT. I TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECALL NOVEMBER 2013 AND THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. LESS THAN A MONTH LATER-DECEMBER 25, 2013 MY AIR BAG LIGHT WENT BACK ON. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER WHO SAID IT'S NOT THE AIRBAG PROBLEM, BUT SEAT BELT-CODE B1706 FOR PASSENGER SEAT BELT-SAID THE SEATBELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ASKED IF THIS WAS COVERED AS PART OF THEIR RECALL AS IT SEEMS TO BE SAFETY ISSUE? I WAS TOLD NO-I WAS RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE IT-APPROXIMATELY $250.00. AIRBAG LIGHT IS NOW OFF-SEEMS LIKE IT IS WORKING, BUT TECH SAID THEY DID NOT GUARANTEE THE AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT! I TOLD HIM IT SHOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE THEN AND THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. HE SAID NO--MY PROBLEM. I HAVE GRANDCHILDREN WHO RIDE IN MY CAR SOMETIMES AND I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FIX IT, BUT AGAIN-IT SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE AIR BAG RECALL SINCE IT TRIGGERS THAT LIGHT AND THEY WILL NOT GUARANTEE THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT--I FEEL HYUNDAI SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. IF PEOPLE DO NOT FIX THIS AND HAVE AN ACCIDENT, THERE COULD BE A LOSS OF LIVES DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL HYUNDAI SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE-SEEMS TO BE A LARGE DEFECT FROM WHAT I SEE ON LINE-LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH AIRBAGS/SEAT BELTS. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON AT ALL TIMES, WITH AND WITHOUT PASSENGER PRESENT. DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS NOT RELATED TO ONGOING RECALL, BUT DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT PRETENSIONER, WHICH WAS REPLACED FOR $267. A HALF YEAR LATER, THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON, INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER CHECKED IT OUT, BUT ON THAT OCCASION THE LIGHT STAYED TURNED OFF. HOWEVER, WHEN I DROVE OUT OF THE DEALER'S LOT IT TURNED BACK ON AND HAS STAYED ON SINCE. I HAVE TRIED TO IGNORE IT, BUT THE RECENT RECALLS MAKE ME VERY NERVOUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED. IN ADDITION, THE ESC-OFF LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT NOTICED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V113000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
RED "AIR BAG" INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS NOT GONE OFF IN 5 DAYS. I AM CURRENTLY PLANNING TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A HYUNDAI DEALER TO ADDRESS ANOTHER AIR BAG ISSUE WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM UNDER A RECALL INITIALLY RELEASED ON 4/2008, BUT WHICH I HAVE ONLY RECENTLY RECEIVED NOTICE IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS. THIS RECALL DOES NOT ADDRESS THE CURRENT PROBLEM AS I UNDERSTAND IT FROM VARIOUS CONSUMER FORUMS. HOWEVER THERE ARE A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SIMILAR ISSUE THAT APPEARS TO BE ALL PART OF A DEFECTIVE OCS SYSTEM OVERALL. SINCE THE RED LAMP INDICATES THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS NOW DEACTIVATED, THIS RAISES A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE THAN THE PASSENGER SENSOR ISSUE, SINCE NOW THE DRIVER AS WELL IS UNPROTECTED. *TR
THE RED AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON STEADY SINCE ABOUT 22 NOVEMBER AND DOES NOT GO OUT. WE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE IN MAY 2010 AND IT WAS THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE SENSOR COSTING ABOUT $350. LOOKING AT THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THIS IS A KNOWN AND VERY COMMON MALFUNCTION. AS SUCH IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING THE COMPANY PAYS OR REIMBURSES CONSUMERS FOR IN A RECALL FOR THESE ISSUES. *TR

I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A RECALL ON THE OCS AND THE DEALER FOUND TWO FAULT CODES B1701 AND B1706 INDICATING THAT BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE BELT PRETENSIONERS RESISTANCE IS TOO HIGH.I SEE THERE ARE MANY 2006 AND 2007 SONATAS WITH A SIMILAR ISSUE. WITH THE NUMBER OF REPEATED COMPLAINTS I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL OR SOME REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS !!!!!!!!!!!! *TR
ESC OFF LIGHT COMES ON PERIODICALLY; CRUISE CONTROL NOT WORKING. STOP LAMP SWITCH REPLACED IN 2010 BUT PROBLEM PERSISTS. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE FEE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM AND ADDITIONAL CHARGES TO REPAIR. SHOULD HAVE PART OF RECALL. *TR
THE ESC OFF DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT IS ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. *TR
THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT WILL NOT STAY ENGAGED ,I HAVE TO TAKE MY HAND & KEEP HITTING UNTIL IT WILL STAY ENGAGED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO ADVISED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,863. UPDATED 12/17/13*CN THE MODULE BURNED INTO THE FUEL INJECTION. THE MODULE WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO OPERATE THE FUEL INJECTION PROCESS. UPDATED 12/18/13
ADDENDUM TO INITIAL COMPLAINT 11-15-13 NHTSA ID# 10552462 PERHAPS I DID NOT COMMUNICATE IN DETAIL,MY CONCERN WAS NOT REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP,IT WAS THE FIRE HAZARD THAT WAS ALARMING-IT WAS THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR MODULE,TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP,IT BURNT INTO THE F/P AND COULD HAVE IGNITED,THE SERVICE MECHANIC WAS SHOCKED THAT I DID NOT HAVE A FIRE,I WAS TOLD THAT ANOTHER MANUFACTURER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND PUT RECALLS ON THEIR VEHICLES DUE TO THIS FIRE HAZARD..... MY INTENTION WAS TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE SAFETY DEPARTMENT TO PREVENT OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS FROM THIS POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
AFTER MY 2007 SONATA AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT FIRST CAME ON, I PHONED MY HUNDAYI DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR NEW- WAIKEM AUTO IN CANTON, OH. THEY SAID THEY HAD A SAFETY RECALL ON IT, AND TO BRING IT IN. AFTER I TOOK IT IN, AND THEY INSPECTED IT, THEY TOLD ME IT WASN'T THE RECALL THEY THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO MY FRONT SEAT BELT SENSORS - BOTH FAILING - THAT WAS CAUSING MY AIR BAG LIGHT TO COME ON & STAY ON. ALSO, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND THEN I WAS TOLD THAT MY AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE OF THIS SEAT BELT SENSOR FAILURE! IT IS EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. MY COMPLAINT- WHY WOULD A SEAT BELT SENSOR BE TIED TO MY AIR BAG FUNCTION ?? THIS IS NOT RIGHT. MY SEAT BELTS FUNCTION FINE. I SEE ON NEWS TODAY, THAT YOU HAVE OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUES, AND ARE INVESTIGATING THE MATTER. I HAVE 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA MODEL. MY PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR (INSIDE) IS NOT HOLDING AND SUNVISOR IS KEEP GOING DOWN. BUT I USED ONLY FEW TIMES BECAUSE I USED DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR LOT OF TIMES AND USUALLY USING DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR. THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR IS FINE. AND LAST YEAR MIRROR IS CRACK (INSIDE SUNVISOR AT PASSENGERSIDE). SO I HAD COMPLAIN MANY TIMES TO HYUNDAI USA HQ AND LOCAL DEALER BUT THEY SAID YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR AND FIX THAT. BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND I ONLY USED FEW TIMES THAT VISOR IS PROBLEM? THAT SUN VISOR HAS KEEP MOVING AND SHAKING WHEN I HAVE DRIVING AND BOTHER TOO. IT IS MEAN WORRY ABOUT DRIVING. I WAS NOTIFIED BY ANOTHER DRIVER THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY CAR WERE OUT. SPECIFICALLY THE LEFT AND CENTER LIGHTS. THE LEFT WAS EASY TO FIX BUT THE CENTER IS A NIGHTMARE. I WILL HAVE TO TAKE TO A DEALERSHIP. $50. AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE READING ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH SEVERAL HYUNDAI CARS AND THEY AND NTSA HAVE DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. HYUNDAI IS CLAIMING THAT A BRAKE SWITCH RECALL THEY ISSUED IN 2009 SOLVES THE PROBLEM. IT DOES NOT. PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIPS EVERYTHING FROM BAD GROUND TO DEFECTIVE WIRING HARNESSES. THIS VIRTUALLY MAKES THE CAR ILLEGAL AND A DEATH TRAP. THE MALFUNCTION DISTORTED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY WHEN DRIVING. THERE WAS VOLUNTARY RECALL ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURER RELATED TO THE SUN VISOR HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REGISTERED IN A SUN BELT STATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
THE 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS 4 CYLINDER 2.4 L, AT 39 225 MILES, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYED ON. I TOOK IT TO THE CIRCLE HYUNDAI DEALER IN SHREWSBURY NJ TO CHECK IT OUT. THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE CAR AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT BELT PRE TENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE COST TO ME OUT OF POCKET WOULD BE $ 450.00 I DID NOT HAVE THE REPAIR COMPLETED. I HAVE READ MANY, CLOSE TO 100 COMPLAINTS ON JUST THIS SAME ISSUE, ON JUST THIS SAME VEHICLE MODEL AND MAKE BEING REPORTED ON THIS NHTSA WEBSITE. IT IS OVERDUE FOR A RECALL OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE OWNERS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL ARE A RISK OF INJURY TO THEIR PERSONS SHOULD THEY BE INVOLVED IN A CAR CRASH AND THE AIRBAG NOT RESPONDING AND PROTECTING THE OCCUPANTS.. LOYAL OWNERS OF THESE HYUNDAI VEHICLES SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR COSTS TO THEM TO KEEP THE CARS SAFE. WITH ONLY 38,000 MILES ON ODOMETER I HAD THE SCARE OF MY LIFE.DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE DIED, AND I LOST ALL POWER. THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT CAME ON. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND SAFELY STOP THE CAR. AFTER 2 MINUTES I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR. IT STARTED AND I DROVE IT HOME WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. I CHECKED THAT ALL FLUIDS WERE OK. NEXT DAY DRIVING TO WORK, COMING DOWN A LONG GRADE, CAR ENGINE DIED AND AGAIN I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I DID NOT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A AAA SERVICE STATION AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. THEY CHECKED AND INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR,(TPS) WHICH THEY FOUND A TECH SERVICE BULLETIN DESCRIBING THE SYMPTOMS AND CONDITION. THEY GAVE ME A COPY OF SAID BULLETIN. THEY NOTED THAT EVEN IF THEY INSTALLED THE PART, I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A HYUNDAI DEALER PERFORM ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE. THEREFORE, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND HAD THEM MAKE THE REPAIR. I EXPECTED THAT THIS WOULD BE A 'RECALL' BY HYUNDAI, AS FAILURE OF THIS PART COULD BE LIFE THREATENING, AS IT WAS IN MY CASE. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HONOR ANY WARRANTY SERVICE AND I WAS CHARGED $252.24. I REQUESTED AND RECEIVED THE REPLACED PART.. I AM RASKED HYUNDAI MOTORS OF AMERICA TO SHOW GOOD FAITH TO A LOYAL CUSTOMER, BY REIMBURSING ME FOR THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS KNOWN FAILING PART.. THEIR RESPONSE:" TSB ARE NOT RECALLS. DEALERS ARE MADE AWARE OF THESE AND ARE ASKED TO PERFORM THEM ON AFFECTED VEHICLES WHEN THEY COME IN FOR OTHER SERVICE. DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR FELL AND DISTRACTED DRIVER WHO SWERVED. THE VISOR WILL GO UP BUT CONTINUES TO FALL AT ERRATIC TIMES. THE PASSENGER VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP AT ALL. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT, SINCE I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON CONSTANTLY. THIS STARTED IN SEPT. 2013, WHEN THE MILEAGE WAS 82000. THE SCAN TEST FOUND CODE B1706 (BUCKLE ASSEMBLY OPEN SHORT). I WENT TO THE DEALER (AUTONATION HYUNDAI MALL OF GEORGIA) AND I WAS TOLD THE BUCKLE HAD TO BE REPLACED (APROX $280), AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I TOLD THE SERVICE REP. THAT I COULDN'T AFFORD THE REPAIRS AT THAT TIME, SO REFUSED TO HAVE THE BUCKLE REPLACED. I DON'T SEE WHAT REPLACING THE BUCKLES WOULD DO, IF THERE IS AN OPEN SHORT THAT IS CAUSING THEM TO SHORTEN OUT. HYUNDAI CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL FOR AIRBAG LIGHT (ISSUE WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG BEING DE-ACTIVATED). I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL TODAY, AND THEY ARE GOING TO SHIP THE FRONT PASSENGER CUSHION SEAT TO CALIFORNIA TO FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR FREE. HOWEVER THE ISSUE WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY IS STILL NOT BEING COVERED. AFTER READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS OF THE 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA, FOR THE SAME ISSUE, HOW CAN THERE NOT BE SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THIS ISSUE? THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,195.
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HYUNDAI THAT MY CAR WAS UNDER RECALL (ISSUE WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG BEING DE-ACTIVATED) & URGED ME TO VISIT THE DEALER IF OCS LIGHT WAS ON. HENCE I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BASED ON THIS SAFETY RECALL NOTICE, THERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WILL PERFORM THE INSPECTION AND CONDITIONALLY CHARGE ME $110 FOR IT WHICH I AGREED AND LATER MY ONLY OPTIONS TO GET THE CAR BACK AFTER THE INSPECTION WERE EITHER PAY $110 INSPECTION FEE OR THE $350 TO FIX THE ISSUE WHICH THEY DEEMED WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL AND HENCE NOT COVERED. IF HYUNDAI HAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT SHOULD IT NOT BE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO INSPECT IT TO SEE IF THE RECALL IS APPLICABLE INSTEAD OF CHARGING THE CUSTOMER FOR IT? SECONDLY, HAVING CRITICAL SAFETY FEATURES (THAT DISABLES THE ENTIRE OCS!) FAIL ON THE CAR JUST AFTER WARRANTY IS VERY UNFORTUNATE, IN THIS CASE THE SEAT BUCKLE PRE-TENSIONER FAILED AND DISABLED THE OCS SYSTEM (ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE THE SEAT BELT AND AIRBAG WOULD HAVE WORKED FINE WITH SLIGHTLY LESS FUNCTION IF PRETENSIONER ADDED FEATURE IS NOT AVAILABLE). I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND SUDDENLY THE DRIVER SUN VISOR DROPPED TO THE POINT WHERE IT OBSCURED MY VIEW OF THE ROAD. IT NOW WONT STAY UP AND ITS A DANGER. THE SAME HAS ALSO STARTED TO HAPPENING WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE CAUSING PASSENGERS TO BECOME ANNOYED WITH HAVING TO TRY AND WEDGE AN OBJECT IN TO THE TOP OF THE SUN VISOR TO STOP IT DROPPING DOWN. THIS IS A RISK BECAUSE IF THERE IS A CRASH THEIR FACE WOULD BE PROPELLED TOWARDS THE NOW PROPPED UP BLUNT EDGE OF THE VISOR, SAME WITH THE DRIVER. I WENT IN TO A DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL WHICH I FIND INSANE AS THIS IS A BIG ISSUE. I COULD HAVE HAD IT FIXED FOR FREE AT 60,000 MILES BUT I AM NOW WELL PASSED THAT MILEAGE AND THE ISSUE DID NOT START UNTIL AFTER 60,000 MILES. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO OBSCURED ROAD VISIBILITY. *TR
