WANDERING - THIS IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM - NOT AN INCIDENT. ON STRAIGHT, LEVEL ROADS STEERING NEEDS CONTINUOUS CORRECTION TO STAY IN THE LANE. THE ALIGNMENT WAS ADJUSTED IN FEBRUARY AND AGAIN IN JULY 2013. *TR
I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED LAST SEPTEMBER. WHEN THE WEATHER TURNED VERY WARM ONE DAY I PUT IN THE KEY TO START THE CAR, AND THE KEY WOULDN'T START. I LOOKED IN THE BOOK THAT CAME WITH THE CAR, AND IT SAID TO JIGGLE THE STEERING WHEEL AND THEN TURN THE KEY. THIS HAPPENED IN MY GARAGE. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. HE ACTUALLY CAME TO MY HOUSE AND WE BOTH TRIED EVERYTHING AND WE COULDN'T GET THE KEY TO TURN. I KEPT AT IT. I DIS-ENGAGED IT OUT OF PARK INTO NEUTRAL AND TRIED MOVING THE CAR. AFTER WHAT SEEMED LIKE AN HOURS OR TWO, I TRIED IT AGAIN, AND FINALLY THE KEY TURNED. I CALLED HYUNDAI IN MEDFORD, OREGON, AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA AS TO WHY THE KEY WOULDN'T TURN. GREAT SERVICE!! NOW IT SEEMS WHENEVER IT GETS REALLY HOT IT DOES THIS OFTEN. I HAVE GOTTEN STRANDED SO MANY TIME AND HAVE HAD OTHERS HELP ME. MY INSURANCE TOWING SERVICE GUY CALLED ME AFTER I GOT STUCK AT THE GROCERY MARKET, AND EXPLAINED THIS WAS A SECURITY LOCK, AND TO MAKE SURE I HAD THE WHEELS TURNED STRAIGHT, AND TO JUST JERK THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT, AND THE KEY SHOULD UN-LOCK. I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THIS MAY BE WHY THE PRIOR OWNER SOLD THIS CAR. I AM 69 YEARS OLD, AND I AM AFRAID AT SOME POINT I WILL BE OFF WITH NO-ONE AROUND TO HELP ME. IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL? WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS ON LINE, IT SEEMS TO BE A GLITCH WITH THIS 2007 MODEL. PLEASE HELP ME WITH A SOLUTION. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER CAR. WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND HEARD LOUD KNOCKING SOUND UNDER THE BOTTOM. TOOK IT TO TUFFY AUTO AND WAS TOLD ENGINE IS LOSING OIL BADLY. THEY NOTICED BECAUSE I HAD JUST HAD THE OIL CHANGED 3 WEEKS PRIOR. WAS TOLD NEED NEW ENGINE. *TR
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE SENSOR WAS TRIGGERED DUE TO A FAULTY PASSENGER SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ($385). THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY OUR EXTENDED 100,000 MILE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. MUST HAVE BEEN FRONT BUMPER TO FRONT BUMPER COVERAGE. FORTUNATELY, WE DID NOT HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN ACCIDENT TO SEE IF THE AIR BAGS WOULD DEPLOY OR NOT. REGARDLESS, THE COMPANY HAS FAILED TO STAND BY ITS SAFETY FEATURES.. EVEN WITH REPEATED COMPLAINTS, HYUNDAI HAS STILL FAILED TO RECALL THE VEHICLES FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS RUST ON BOTH SIDES OF THE REAR FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V354000 (SUSPENSION). PASSENGER FRONT SEAT AIR BAG BUCKLE/SENSOR ASSEMBLY HAS FAILED. AFTER SEEING SO MANY SIMILAR REPORTS, I WANT TO MAKE AWARE THAT I HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES. I AM ALSO WONDERING IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL ON THE OCS? I HAVE YET TO HAVE THE RECALL FIXED, BECAUSE THEY HAVE REFUSED TO DO SO, UNTIL I RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER AND CALLED HYUNDAI. WHO THEN CALLED THE DEALER. AM STILL WAITING FOR THE RESULTS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.....UPDATED 10-21-13 *BF
THE SUN VISORS BOTH MALFUNCTIONED. THEY DO NOT STAY IN PLACE WITHOUT BEING TIED UP. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THEY CAN DROOP DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
VEHICLE STRUCK AND TOTALED YET NO AIR BAGS WENT OFF. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE VISOR WOULD NOT GO BACK TO THE UP POSITION. THE VISOR WOULD NOT REMAIN IN A FIXED POSITION. THIS CAUSED REDUCED VISIBILITY. ON SHARP TURNS THE VISOR WOULD SWING AND HIT THE DRIVER IN THE HEAD. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD FIX IT AT MY EXPENSE, BECAUSE OF MILEAGE THERE WAS NO MORE WARRANTY, AND THE PART WAS NOT IN STOCK THAT DAY. ONLINE FORUMS AND HYUNDAI'S OWN SERVICE BULLETIN TSB-09-01-003 DOCUMENT SHOW THAT IT IS KNOWN THIS PART PREMATURELY FAILS. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HYUNDAI HAD ISSUED ANY DOCUMENTS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. THEY ALSO STATED THAT HYUNDAI HAS NEVER AND WILL NEVER DO A STATE BY STATE RECALL, THIS CLAIM IS PROVED FALSE BY NHTSA CAMPAIGN 13V-354. IF HYUNDAI HAD ISSUED A RECALL WHEN THEY BECAME AWARE OF THE ISSUE, OR REPLACED THE PART PROACTIVELY WHEN MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY I WOULD HAVE HAD A SAFER DRIVING EXPERIENCE. *TR
FROM POLICE REPORT: THE COLLISION OCCURRED AS PARTIES WERE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON I-15 NORTH OF VIA RANCHO PARKWAY IN THE #1 LANE. P-1 (DRIVER) WAS DRIVING VEHICLE 1 (MITSUBISHI) AND TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65-70 MPH BEHIND VEHICLE 2 (HYUNDAI). P-2 (DRIVER) WAS DRIVING VEHICLE 2 (HYUNDAI) AND WAS STOPPED BEHIND VEHICLE 3 (TOYOTA). P-3 (DRIVER) WAS DRIVING VEHICLE 3 (TOYOTA) AND TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. THIS COLLISION OCCURRED WHEN DUE TO VEHICLE 1'S UNSAFE SPEED; P-1 (DRIVER) ALLOWED THE FRONT OF VEHICLE 1 TO STRIKE THE REAR OF VEHICLE 2. VEHICLE 2 WAS PUSHED INTO THE REAR OF VEHICLE 3. VEHICLE 2 HYUNDAI PER INSURANCE CLAIM IS TOTALED. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
AIRBAG WARNING LAMP ON THE DASH CONSTANTLY LIT AFTER ENGINE START. FAILURE OF AIRBAG SYSTEM. *TR
THERE IS PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION. IF I TAKE MY KEY OUT THE MECHANISM LOCKS, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND I CAN'T GET THE CAR STARTED AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE STARTED LEAVING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION ALL THE TIME. I KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE MECHANISM HAS GONE BAD AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT REPLACED BECAUSE IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THAT MEANS HAVING 2 DIFFERENT KEYS FOR THE CAR. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR MECHANISM BROKE AND THE VISOR NOW HANGS DOWN IMPAIRING THE DRIVER'S VISIBILITY. THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT FOR THIS MODEL YEAR SONATA ACCORDING TO MY INTERNET RESEARCH. HYUNDAI HAS ISSUED TECHNICAL SERV. BULLETIN #09-01-00, FEB. 2009 RE: THIS PROBLEM TO ITS DEALERS SO IT OBVIOUSLY IS A COMMON PROBLEM. ALSO SEE NHTSA ITEM #10028945. *TR
THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE, INTERMITTENT OCCASIONS. WHEN DECELERATING WHILE EXITING A HIGHWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL "STICKS" IN THE STRAIGHT-AHEAD POSITION. IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN & NAVIGATE A HIGHWAY EXIT THAT CURVES. YOU HAVE TO FIGHT WITH THE WHEEL AND PULL HARD TO MAKE IT TURN, AT WHICH POINT IT FEELS LIKE THE WHEEL "UNLOCKS" AND TURNS FREELY AGAIN. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE ONLY TAKEN FOR SERVICE ONCE, AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG (NOW THAT I SEE OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE, I PLAN ON SCHEDULING SERVICE AGAIN). I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR DUE TO THE SPRING BREAKING AND THE PASSENGER SIDE IS SLOWLY HANGING AND WILL PROBABLY BREAK TOO. I TOO HAD ISSUES WITH THE ESC AND JERKING AND PULLING NOT LONG AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR, BUT THOSE ISSUES WERE ADDRESSED (AFTER MANY TRIPS TO THE SHOP & SEVERAL HIGHWAY SCARES) AND FINALLY REPAIRED. *TR

THE ISSUE RELATES TO DEFECTIVE SUN VISORS IN MY 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. NOTE: HYUNDAI ISSUED A RECALL - SERVICE CAMPAIGN # T74, TO REPLACE BOTH DRIVER & PASSENGER VISORS, BUT EXCLUDED MY STATE OF NEW YORK! BOTH MY VISORS ARE BROKE AND THEY KNEW THEY WERE DEFECTIVE SUN VISORS BUT THEY WONT PAY THE COST TO REPLACE THEM. HOW CAN THIS BE ALLOWED? HOPING YOU CAN INFLUENCE THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPLACE MY DEFECTIVE SUN VISORS AT NO COST TO ME. THESE DEFECTIVE VISORS ARE A DRIVING HAZARD AS THE VISORS ARE UNABLE TO STAY IN THE UP POSITION REMAINING IN THE DOWN POSITION REDUCING MY VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING.
THERE IS AN AIRBAG LIGHT ON IN MY 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. I RECEIVED A PAMPHLET REGARDING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST HYUNDAI THAT MY VEHICLE QUALIFIED FOR A "FREE" RECALIBRATION TO "RESET" THE AIRBAG LIGHT. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER, GOT THE CAR IN. THEY SAID THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON DUE TO A FAULTY SEATBELT, AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE SEAT, SEND IT TO CALIFORNIA AND IT WOULD COST ME $300. I SAID THAT I WOULD NEED TO SPEAK TO MY SPOUSE, AND THEY CHARGED ME $70.00 FOR THE VISIT FOR THEM TO "DIAGNOSE" THE PROBLEM.....I THINK THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I ALSO SEE WHERE THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE OF THE VERY SAME ISSUE MY CAR IS HAVING. ALSO....I INTEND TO FILL OUT ANOTHER COMPLAINT FORM FOR A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA WE OWN, THAT IS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS, AND NOT A THE CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE EITHER. OBVIOUSLY IT IS AN ISSUE HYUNDAI SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF. *TR

APRIL 2013 PASSENGER SIDE VISOR WON'T STAY UP. JAN 2014 DRIVER SIDE VISOR WON'T STAY UP. *TR
I PULLED MY VISOR DOWN TO BLOCK THE SUN. PLASTIC CRUSHED AND BROKE AT THE VISOR PIVOT ARM. NOW THE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! VISIBILITY OF THE ROAD IS HINDERED. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I HARDLY USE MY VISOR SO WEAR AND TEAR IS NOT AN ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY HYUNDAI BUT I AM PASSED MY WARRANTY PERIOD. *TR
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, I HEARD A CLANKING NOISE. IT GOT VERY LOUD WITH ACCELERATION. THERE WERE NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ON, OR OVER HEATING, SMOKE, OR ANY SIGNS OF A PROBLEM OTHER THAN THE NOISE. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY, AND AS I DID SO, THE CAR DIED. LONG STORY SHORT, (AS THIS HAS NOW BEEN A MONTH OF A NIGHTMARE) THE MECHANICS AT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS VERY LOW ON OIL. I DROVE FROM SAN DIEGO AND WAS ON MY WAY TO SAN ANTONIO, SO OF COURSE I MADE SURE THE OIL WAS OKAY BEFORE I LEFT. I HAD JUST PAID MY TAGS AND HAD IT SMOG CHECKED AND OIL WAS CHECKED AND FINE. SINCE SPEAKING WITH MANY MECHANICS, I HAVE FOUND IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT THIS ENGINE IS DEFECTED AND HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED YET BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE FILED FORMAL COMPLAINTS. THE ENGINE ITSELF IS MORE EXPENSIVE THE V-6! I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CAR RUNS FINE, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN DIES BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM WITH THE FILTER SUCKING UP OIL. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP CHANGED MY OIL AND MY CAR TURNED BACK ON, KNOCKING, BUT ON. I HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC LOOK AT IT, AND HE SAID THERE WAS NO OIL IN IT, SO I KNOW THE FILTER IS SUCKING IT UP. I ONLY REALIZED THIS PROBLEM AFTER SEEING MANY MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ON CARS.COM CHAT BOARDS, OF THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENING TO THEM, AND FROM HEARING ABOUT IT FROM DIFFERENT MECHANICS I'VE SPOKE WITH. THE LAST MECHANIC I SPOKE WITH AT AAMCO, CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY TOLD HIM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WHY IT HAS NOT YET BEEN RECALLED. I ONLY HAD 117,000MLS ON IT. THAT MAY SOUND LIKE ALOT TO SOME, BUT I'VE OWNED MANY CARS AND THEY HAVE ALL LAST MUCH LONGER (A TOYOTA @ 334,00). THIS PROBLEM HAS COST ME MY JOB I MOVED TO SAN ANTONIO FOR, AS I AM NEW TO THE AREA AND CANNOT BE FINANCED ET. AND OWE 4,000+ ON MY SONATA STILL. ITS COST ME TONS OF MONEY OUT OF POCKET, TOWING, MECHANICS, RENTALS ETC. AND PHYSICALLY MADE ME ILL. A NEW OR REBUILT ENGINE: 3,000-7,000! *TR
HAD JUST HAD MY CAR SMOG CHECKED, OIL CHECKED, TIRES ROTATED AND BEGAN MY DRIVE FROM SAN DIEGO CA. TO SAN ANTONIO TX. I GET TO OZONA TX I HEAR A CLINKING IN MY ENGINE. I PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR DIES, THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME MY CAR IS TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN SAN ANGELO THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, AND THE MECHANICS SAID IT WAS LOW ON OIL AND THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED. I COULD NOT AFFORD TO HAVE AN ENGINE PUT IT IN AT THE TIME, AS IT IS AN EXPENSIVE ENGINE COSTING 5, -$7,000.00. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO SAN ANTONIO TX WHERE BY A MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS LOW ON OIL (HAD JUST HAD OIL CHANGED @ HYUNDAI). HE ADDED MORE OIL. THE PEOPLE AT HYUNDAI SAID THEY CHANGED THE OIL AND GOT THE CAR TO UNSEIZE AND TURN ON BUT IT WAS KNOCKING. MY CAR WAS LATER TAKEN TO AM AAMCO, WHERE THE MECHANICS LOOKED AT IT AND FOUND PARTS FALLING OFF IT AS THEY REMOVED THE OIL PAN. THEY CALLED HYUNDAI, BECAUSE ANOTHER CAN JUST LIKE MINE CAME IN THAT DAY WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE PERSON AT HYUNDAI SAID THERE IS NOW A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THE CAR BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN VOLUNTARILY RECALLED AS OF YET, BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE STEPPED FORWARD N FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT. THEY DO KNOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WAY THE FILTER SOAKS UP THE OIL IN THE ENGINE. IT HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON IN MY CAR...NO ENGINE LIGHT, NO OIL LIGHT, NO OVERHEATING OR SMOKE OR ANYTHING. WAS RUNNING FINE, AND DIED. IN THIS HORRIFIC PLACE I'VE BEEN PUT IN, BEING STRANDED IN A SMALL TEXAS TOWN FOR A WEEKEND, THEN ANOTHER, AND HAVING TO PAY FOR RENTAL CARS, TOWING, MULTIPLE MECHANICS, I HAVE LEARNED ALOT ABOUT THE CAR. THE ENGINE (ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI)IS EXPENSIVE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T MAKE VERY MANY. IT COSTS MORE THAN THE V-6!! MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THEIR CARS, ITS ALL OVER MESSAGE BOARDS ONLINE AND KNOWN AMONG THE SALVAGE YARDS, MACHINISTS ETC. *TR
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. IN THE FOLLOWING WEEKS SOMETIMES LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON DURING A TRIP, ON ANOTHER DAY IT STAYS OFF. HAPPENS WHEN NOBODY IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, AND ALSO WHEN AN ADULT SITS IN PASSENGER SEAT. DEALER INSPECTED CAR ON 3/25/13 AND SAID THAT THE CONTROL UNIT NEEDS REPLACING AT A COST OF ABOUT $270. THINKS THAT WHEN LIGHT IS ON, AIR BAGS MAY OR MAY NOT DEPLOY. CLAIMS THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL, BUT IT SEEMS TO ME I HAVE SEEN A RECALL NOTICE FOR THAT PROBLEM. *TR

I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER WORK GOING SOUTH ON I-65 AND AT 4:00 PM, APPROXIMATELY ONE QUARTER MILE SOUTH OF EXIT 179 PRATTVILLE ALABAMA A DEER JUMPED OUT OF THE DITCH AND I HIT THE DEER GOING AT 70 MPH.I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE. THE SEAT BELT DID NOT KEEP ME FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY FORTUNANTLY I ONLY SUSTAINED BRUISING AND PAIN THAT KEPT ME OUT OF WORK FOR 2 DAYS.THE CAR WAS ATOTAL LOSS AND I JUST FINISHED PAYING FOR IT ON 1/17/2013. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT BUCKLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TPMS SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON AFTER CAR HAD FLAT. TOOK IT TO LES SCHWAB 7 TIMES AND THEY KEPT CHECKING FOR A FLAT. SOMETIMES SOMETHING IN THE TIRE, SOMETIMES NOT. FINALLY TOOK IT TO A DEALER. THEY RESET THE SENSOR BUT ABOUT A WEEK LATER IT CAME BACK ON. THEN I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR. HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE THEN. IT SEEMED TO BE RELATED TO PLUGGING MY CAR CHARGER IN. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS THOUGHT UNTIL I HAD THE FIRST FLAT. *TR
MY AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. WHENEVER I AM DRIVING ALONE, MY PASSENGER SEATBELT LIGHT FLASHES NOT STOP. THIS TWO THINGS BEEN GOING ON FOR A WHILE NOW. ALSO MY LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN AFTER I SWITCH MY LIGHTS OFF, I HAVE TO TURN THEM ON AND TURN THEM BACK OFF UNTIL THEY SHUT OFF. A MECHANIC TOLD ME ITS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,352.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON MY CAR STARTED TO COME ON ALL THE TIME. ALSO WHEN NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE SEAT BELT LIGHT WOULD CONTINUE TO FLASH. RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM BROUGHT ME TO THIS RECALL: NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V161000. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA AND THEY SAID IT WAS PROBABLY IN THE RECALL. AS THEY DIRECTED, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY RAN MY VIN TO SEE IF IT WAS IN THE RECALL SET BUT IT WAS NOT. THEY ALSO CHECKED THE AIR BAG SYSTEM AND CONFIRMED IT WAS THE ISSUE DEALT WITH ON THE RECALL BUT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR ($1,200) BECAUSE IT WAS NOT RECALLED. ABOUT THAT TIME I RECEIVED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT DEALING WITH CALIBRATING THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THIS LAWSUIT ONLY COVERS CALIBRATION AND NOT REPAIR WHICH MY CAR NEEDS. AS I COMMUNICATED MY CONCERNS TO HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA, THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND BECAUSE THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WOULD ONLY DEAL WITH CALIBRATION, IT WAS MY COST TO REPAIR. TO ME THIS ISSUE IS CLEARLY IN THE AREA OF DEFECT IN MATERIAL FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND NOT CAUSED BY MY ACTIONS OR NEGLECT. AND SINCE HMA REPAIRED THE RECALL VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM REGARDLESS OF THE WARRANTY OF THE CAR, AND MINE WAS OUTSIDE THE VIN SET, I REQUEST THAT THE RECALL BE EXAMINED AND EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MY VEHICLE AND ANY OTHERS THAT HAVE THE VERY SAME ISSUE BUT FELL OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF THE ORIGINAL SET. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT HMA WOULD TURN IT'S BACK ON A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AND REPAIRED IN SO MANY OTHER SIMILAR CARS, JUST BECAUSE IT FALLS OUTSIDE OF A TECHNICAL SCOPE OF VIN NUMBERS. *TR

WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A RECALL ON THE OCS AND THE DEALER FOUND TWO FAULT CODES B1701 AND B1706 INDICATING THAT BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE BELT PRETENSIONERS RESISTANCE IS TOO HIGH.I SEE THERE ARE MANY 2006 AND 2007 SONATAS WITH A SIMILAR ISSUE. DEALER WANTS A TOTAL OF 871.74. WITH THE NUMBER OF REPEATED COMPLAINTS I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR

THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2007 SONATA. TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED THE SAFETY BELT AND THEN THEY SAID IT WAS THE CUSHION SWITCH ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE SERVICE MGR, [XXX] INFORMED MY SON THAT A MAT UNDER THE PASSENGER WAS DEFECTIVE & AD TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST TO CORRECT THE AIRBAG SAFETY ISSUE. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI USA., CASE NO. [XXX] WAS ASSIGNED. [XXX] IS THE CASE WORKER. [XXX] STATED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT SUBJECT RECALL NO. 08V161000, MANUFACTURING DATE START/END DATE:FROM 03/01/2005 TO 01/11/2008; MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN MAY 2006. TSB 08-01-006 ALSO INDICATES THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE REMEDIED UNDER THE RECALL. [XXX]STATED THAT I HAD TO SPEAK WITH [XXX] AT THE DEALER. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DASH ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS COMING ON AND OFF FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND IS NOW PERMANENTLY ON. IN MAY 2013 I CALLED THE HYUNDAI ASSISTANCE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL AND TO SCHEDULE REPAIR WITH THE DEALER. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NO AIR BAG RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. AFTER ANOTHER 30 MINUTES ON THE PHONE AND ON HOLD WITH THE ASSISTANCE CENTER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS INDEED A RECALL BUT THAT IT APPLIED TO THE LIGHT ABOVE THE RADIO INDICATING THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG AND THE DETECTION OF A SMALL CHILD. AFTER A $60 DIAGNOSTIC TEST, I'VE NOW LEARNED THAT MY AIR BAG LIGHT IS DUE TO SOME SORT OF SEAT BELT ISSUE, WHICH WILL HAVE TO BE REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY HYUNDAI. *TR
I JUST FILED A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY 2006 AND THIS IS FOR MY 2007 HYUNDAI VISOR. IT IS BROKE AND A SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO READ THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS VISOR ISSUE IN SOME STATES, BUT NOT ALL OR MINE IN ILLINOIS. NOT SURE HOW TRUE THIS IS, BUT IN ANY CASE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES.
