TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHENEVER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE CONTACT WAS ALERTED OF THE FAILURE BY A DRIVER IN ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE AIR BAG PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR AIR BAG ISSUES, SEVERAL TIMES. THE LAST TIME THE AIR BAG ILLUMINATED, THE DEALER STATED A CODE CAME UP AS A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER. *JB
PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR HAS "SPRUNG" AND WILL NO LONGER STAY IN THE UP OR DOWN POSITION. THIS IMPEDES DRIVER VISIBILITY AND ALSO CREATES A HAZARD FOR A PASSENGER GETTING INTO THE CAR. A PASSENGER RECENTLY STRUCK HER HEAD ON THE VISOR WHILE GETTING INTO THE CAR. *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS DEFECTIVE SUN VISORS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. THE SUN VISORS WILL NOT REMAIN IN THE UP POSITION AND COME DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND BLOCK MY VIEW THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED AND REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR IN AUGUST 2012 . MY PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR NEEDS TO BE PURCHASED OR REPLACED I HAVE CONTACT HYUNDAI VIA EMAIL REGARDING THIS TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD AND THE VISOR DROPS DOWN SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING AND BLOCKS THE WINDSHIELD VIEW. I HAVE REVIEWED OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS OF THIS MODEL SONATA ON THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY WEBSITE. WHEN WILL HYUNDAI RECALL THE SUN VISORS AND DETERMINE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR THAT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUN VISORS DO NOT STAY IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THEY FALL DOWN WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING VISIBILITY PROBLEMS AND POTENTIAL HEAD INJURY. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THEN ESCALATED THRU HYUNDAI REGIONAL SERVICE ORGANIZATION TO GET THIS ADDRESSED ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-01-029, HYUNDAI RECALL CAMPAIGN T64. HYUNDAI REFUSED TO SERVICE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL, DESPITE THE VIN BEING INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CLASSIFICATION. *TR
2007 HYUNDAI SONATA AIR BAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND HAS REMAINED ILLUMINATED; TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI DEALER FOR SERVICE ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-01-006-1 FOR HYUNDAI RECALL CAMPAIGN 083, "2006 - 2008 SONATA - OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) REPROGRAMMING". DEALER, AND THEN HYUNDAI REGIONAL SERVICE, REFUSED TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE UNDER THEIR RECALL CAMPAIGN DESPITE REPEATED PHONE CALLS AND ESCALATION. *TR
VISOR KEEPS DROPPING DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND STOP RUNNING. UPON CHECKING FOR REPAIR THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE WIRES LEADING TO THE FUEL PUMP IN THE FUEL TANK WERE MELTED AND THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS ENCOUNTERING ELECTRICAL SHORTING. EXTREME FIRE HAZARD. *TR
MY SUNVISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DROPPED DOWN AND WILL NOT GO BACK TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME MY SUNVISOR HAS BROKEN. ONE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND TWICE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I HAVE SPENT 100 DOLLARS REPLACING THE OTHER SIDE. I DO NOT HAVE ANY CHILDREN IN MY CAR, IT IS JUST MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND. THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT IT BROKE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAVE A 2004 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AND HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE VISORS. *TR
CAR BEGAN "JERKING" MOTION WHILE DOING 45 MPH TO 50 MPH. DEALER SAYS THEY ARE UNABLE TO LOCATE PROBLEM AS THERE IS NO CODE. TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CHANGED AND TEMPORARILY "FIXED" THE ISSUE. TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE LOOKED AT THE CAR AND HAVE BOTH SAID WITHOUT A CODE, THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING. THE TACH DOES NOT FLUCTUATE WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS. AFTER 50 MPH, THE JERKING MOTION STOPS. THIS IS A 4 CYL, 2.4 LITER ENGINE. *TR
PASSENGER SEATBELT GETS TIGHTER AND WILL NOT GET SLACK AGAIN. WHEN YOU PUT IT ON, THAT'S HOW IT STAYS. IF YOU TAKE A DEEP BREATH IT WILL TIGHTEN AND ONLY IF YOU DISENGAGE THE SEAT BELT CAN YOU BREATH REGULARLY AGAIN. WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THEY STATE THAT THE SEAT BELTS ARE WORKING CORRECTLY. I HAVE A 2007 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AND THE SEAT BELT DOES NOT WORK LIKE THIS. MY ELANTRA ALLOWS THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT TO TIGHTEN OR EXPAND AS NEEDED BUT STILL LOCKS IN PLACE. THIS SONATA PASSENGER SEAT BELT DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY. NO ONE LIKES TO BE A FRONT PASSENGER IN THIS CAR. FORGET PICKING SOMETHING FROM THE FLOOR OR TURNING TO HAND SOMETHING TO SOMEONE IN THE BACK SEAT-YANK!! THIS CAN'T BE SAFE, YET WE ARE TOLD IT IS. WE HAVE OUR TEENAGE DAUGHTER SITTING IN THE FRONT SOMETIMES AND I AM WORRIED, THAT THIS MAY NOT BE SAFE. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS, AT ALL TIMES. *TR

SUN VISORS SUDDENLY BROKE AND FELL INTO DRIVER'S FIELD OF VISION. EVEN WHEN SNAPPED INTO UPRIGHT POSITION, THEY DROP AND BLOCK VISIBILITY. THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN EXPERIENCED IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE. AFTER READING COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, I WOULD THINK THEY WOULD DO A RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM FOR FREE FOR ALL STATES. WHAT GUARANTEE DO I HAVE THAT THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN WITHIN 6-12 MONTHS AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, WILL I HAVE TO KEEP REPLACING IT DUE TO A HYUNDAI DEFECT? THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR FUTURE BUSINESS! *TR
I RECENTLY READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE NHTSA INVESTIGATING SONATA FAULTY REAR CONTROL ARMS THAT AFFECT THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL. ON OCCASION, MY SONATA WILL LIGHT UP THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL DISABLED DASHBOARD INDICATOR. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WILL INDICATE THAT IT'S OFF FOR A FEW MILES OF DRIVING AND THEN THE DISABLED LIGHT WILL TURN OFF AND I AM PRESUMING THAT THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL IS BACK ON. I HAVE NOT FELT ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE DRIVING WHEN STABILITY CONTROL BECOMES DISABLED, BUT THAT VERY WELL COULD BE BECAUSE I USUALLY ASEE THE INDICATOR LIGHT UP (ON THE OCCASIONS THAT IT HAPPENS) IN THE MORNING AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE AND DRIVING SLOWLY THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD TO EXIT. AFTER DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF ABOUT 40 FOR A FEW MILES, THE DISABLED INDICATOR DISAPPEARS. TOTAL TIMES ISSUE OCCURRED: ABOUT 10 OR LESS SINCE FIRST OCCURRENCE MID 2012. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE SEAT BELT AND AIR BAG WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND INDICATED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED WHEN IT WAS NOT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR IS DEFECTIVE AND IS CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION.THE VISOR BEGAN DROPPING FROM THE "UP" POSITION TOWARD THE CEILING. IT WOULD NOT STAY UP. ITS BOTTOM WAS RIGHT AT MY LINE OF VISION. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER AND HAD MISSED THE BUMPER TO BUMPER 5 YR. OR 60K WARRANTY BY 3 DAYS! THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $100 TO REPLACE AND INSTALL. TODAY WHILE DRIVING MY HUSBAND WAS TRYING TO MOVE IT OUT OF HIS LINE OF VISION AND WE HEARD A NOISE AND THE WHOLE THING JUST LOST ALL IT'S SUPPORT. HE WAS ABLE TO TAKE IT OFF AND WE WERE HOPING TO FIND SCREWS WE COULD JUST TIGHTEN, BUT THAT WASN'T THE CASE. NOW, WITH IT JUST HANGING IT INTERFERES WITH MY VIEW AND IS A HAZARD. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THESE!!! I DON'T HAVE $100 TO SPEND ON A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. FROM WHAT I'VE READ ONLINE, THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM FOR THE SONOTA. THE ONLY OTHER HYUNDAI OWNER IS MY NEIGHBOR; THEY HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN ON THEIR NEW CAR. CAN YOU HELP US???? *TR
THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM HAS SHOWN A FAILURE FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS. I HAVE TAKEN IT THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY WOULD RE-TEACH THE SYSTEM AND THE TPMS LIGHT RETURNS ABOUT A WEEK LATER. THE DEALER THEN SAID I HAD 2 FAULTY TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS. I HAD ALL 4 TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS REPLACED AT A NON-DEALER (THEY ASSURED ME THEY COULD MAKE THE NEW SENSORS COMMUNICATE WITH THE CAR) LOCATION AND THE TPMS LIGHT CAME BACK ON ABOUT A WEEK LATER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DID A RE-TEACH AND AGAIN WITHIN A WEEK THE TPMS LIGHT WAS BACK ON. THIS SAFETY SYSTEM, DESIGNED TO PROVIDE EARLY WARNING OF TIRE LOSING AIR PRESSURE, IS NOT VERY ROBUST AND IS VERY MANUFACTURER DEPENDENT FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR. AT THIS POINT THE SYSTEM IS INOPERABLE AND HAS BEEN FOR 2 YEARS. I FEEL SURE THE DEALER WILL SAY THEY NEED TO PUT HYUNDAI PARTS IN THE VEHICLE TO MAKE THE SYSTEM OPERABLE. THE COST FOR THAT SERVICE IS TWICE WHAT THIRD PARTIES CHARGE. ON A LIMITED INCOME THAT PREMIUM IS NOT PRACTICAL. THESE UNIVERSALLY REQUIRED SAFETY SYSTEMS NEED TO BE MORE GENERIC AS TO MAKE THEM EASIER TO MAINTAIN AND REPAIR. IT IS UNKNOWN TO ME IF HYUNDAI IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS SYSTEM ON OTHER CARS. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR TENSIONER BROKE (DEFECTIVE), ALLOWING THE VISOR TO MOVE DOWN TO A POINT WHERE IT WAS DIRECTLY IN YOUR EYES, AFFECTING ROAD VISIBILITY. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A QUICK DO-IT-YOURSELF FIX AFTER PURCHASING THE VISOR ON-LINE FOR LESS THAN $50. HOWEVER, AFTER REVIEWING THE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME PROBLEM, A DECISION WAS MADE TO ADD WEIGHT TO THIS COMMON PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS. *TR

AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V161000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY, CRASHING INTO A WALL. THE CRASH CAUSED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT AND PASSENGER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THEIR CHEST AREAS AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND A REPORT WAS ON FILE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,060. UPDATED 06/05/12*LJ UPDATED 06/06/12 *JS THE CONSUMER STATED AS THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED TO ENTER A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, AND WENT OVER A CURB, THREE FEET OF LAWN AND HIT A STONE WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND DEEMED TOTALED. UPDATED 06/19/12
THE SUN VISOR ON DRIVER SIDE FELL DOWN WILL NOT STAY UP. THE SUN VISOR ON PASSENGER SIDE WAS REPLACED AT LAST SERVICE AND WITHIN WARRANTY. MANUALLY HAVE THE EXTENSION SLIDE BAR HITTING REAR VIEW MIRROR IN ORDER TO HAVE VISOR STAY OUT OF DRIVING VIEW INTERFERENCE BUT DOES NOT BLOCK THE BRIGHT SUN LIGHT NOW. AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WENT ON AND STAYED ON AFTER HORN WAS HONKED. AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS STILL ON. HOW IS IT THAT THIS IS NOT A LONG-TERM WARRANTY ITEM SIMILAR TO SEAT BELTS? AFTER A SIMPLE WEB SEARCH, IT APPEARS THESE SENOR TYPE SYSTEMS DO NOT LAST FOR THE SHORT WARRANTY PERIOD ALLOWED. I DON'T HAVE $300.00 TO FIX THIS. *TR
I HAVE HAD THREE DOOR HANDLES BREAK OFF OF THIS CAR. THE FIRST WAS 3/12/2012; THE SECOND 3/26/2012; AND THE THIRD WAS 9/4/2012. THE BREAK WAS THE SAME ON THE LAST TWO CAUSE ME NOT TO ACCESS ENTRY. THE HANDLE HAS A DEFECT AT A MOLD POINT THAT SNAPS OFF LEAVING THE HANDLE IN THE HAND OF THE OWNER COMPLETELY DETACHED. THE DEALER AND CORP OFFICES REFUSE TO ASSIST CLAIMING IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:09V122000(SERVICE BRAKES:HYDRAULIC:SWITCHES: BRAKE LIGHT) ON AUGUST 19, 2009 HOWEVER, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A BRAKE FAILURE 40,000 MILES LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,822 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
1. AIR BAG IS ON CONSTANTLY. HAVE HAD IT FIXED BY DEALER BUT TO NO AVAIL; IT'S NOT OFF FOR VERY LONG. HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER 12 MONTHS. 2. SUN VISOR ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE ARE BROKEN, WON'T STAY UP. I AM USING MAKE SHIFT ALTERNATIVE TO SUPPORT THEM. IT CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN THE VISOR UNEXPECTEDLY DROP WHEN DRIVING. HAVE SPOKEN WITH OTHER HYUNDAI OWNERS WITH THE SAME CONCERN. *TR

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED AGAINST A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED AND DISLOCATED FEMUR. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY, HOWEVER THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
AIRBAG LIGHT CAN AFTER 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING. FOUND OUT THAT THE SEAT BUCKLE ON THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR WAS THE PROBLEM. AS A RULE THAT SEAT IS EMPTY EXCEPT FOR MY BRIEFCASE. DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE SEAT BUCKLE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. IN 2009 THE CAR WAS RECALL FOR PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SENSOR FOR THAT SEAT. *TR
2007 SONATA WITH 37,000 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ESC LIGHT COME ON AND CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE. EXTREMELY UNSAFE. HAPPENS RANDOMLY. HAVE TO PULL OVER BECAUSE CAR WON'T ACCELERATE. CAR NEEDS TO BE SHUT OFF AND TURNED BACK ON. CODE P2135 AND P2106. *TT
I NOTICED THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY ON SEVERAL WEEKS PRIOR TO SERVICING. 1/21/12 (97,624 MILEAGE), CODE CAUSING AIR BAG LIGHT WAS CLEARED (CODE NOT INDICATED TO OWNER). ON 8/18/12 (111,685 MILEAGE) THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS CONSTANT AGAIN. DEALER RESET THE LIGHT. ON 1/17/14 (141,400 MILEAGE APPROXIMATE) VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR OCS AND BRAKE LIGHT RECALL. AGAIN AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON CODE B1706 (PASSENGER PRETENSIONER) WAS SCANNED. NOT FEELING REAL CONFIDENT IN HYUNDAI FIXING IT BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE WITH DEALER AND THAT I'M OUT OF WARRANTY. SHOULDN'T BE LONG BEFORE THE DRIVERS ONE FALLS DOWN ALSO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH COOPER SCS ULTRA TOURING TIRES, SIZE:215/55R17 (DOT:U93R1CU1817), BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG FAILED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY THAT WAS 5 YEARS AND 60,000. IT WAS FIXED BY DEALER AND NOW WITHIN A YEAR THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN IN NOVEMBER 2012. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY AS IT IS RE-OCCURRING PROBLEM. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE HAD THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY FAIL SHORTLY AFTER AND DURING A RAIN FALL. WHEN IT RAINS THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTS GIVEN PROBLEMS BY TURNING LIGHTS OFF BOTH OUTSIDE AND CLUSTER PANEL LIGHTS, IT ALSO STARTS GIVING WARNING LIGHT FAILURES SUCH AS ABS, ESC AND THE HAZARD LIGHTS WILL NOT FUNCTION DURING THIS TIME OF FAILURE MAKING IT VERY DANGEROUS TO BE RUN INTO IN THE DARK OF THE NIGHT. THE DEALER IS USELESS AS ALL THEY DO IS PUT THE VIN # IN THEIR COMPUTER AND SAY THERE IS NO RECALL NOR KNOW PROBLEMS AS THESE PROBLEMS AND IT IS WORKING FINE AFTER THE ALTERNATOR IS REPLACED. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT USED AND IN LESS 10 MONTHS THE CAR HAS HAD 3 ALTERNATORS AND 2 BATTERIES AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *TR

LEFT REAR BRAKE LINING FAILED CAUSING LOUD NOISE WHEN I BRAKED. ALSO BRAKES TOOK LONGER TO STOP. HAD I BEEN GOING FASTER IT MAY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. HYUNDAI HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR CALIPERS SEIZING UP AND NOT RELEASING THEREBY WEARING THE BRAKE PADS OUT IN SEVERAL MILES AND CAUSING THE REAR BRAKES TO FAIL. I ALSO HAD THIS SAME FAILURE AT 12,000 MILES AND HYUNDAI REPLACED THE PADS AND THE SAID CALIPERS WERE OK. HYUNDAI SAID THIS PROBLEM OCCURS IN AREAS WERE THEY USE A HIGH CONCENTRATION OF CHEMICALS ON THE ROAD IN WINTERTIME. ALL OTHER MANUFACTURERS DON'T SEEM TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM, MY OPINION IS THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE CALIPERS HYUNDAI USES AND THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR INJURED DUE TO A REAR WHEEL BRAKE FAILURE.
I HAD NOT HAD VERY MANY RIDERS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF MY 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA UNTIL I WENT TO UPSTATE NY FOR A FAMILY REUNION. DURING MY 2 WEEK STAY IN NY I HAD PASSENGERS RIDING IN THE FRONT SEAT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. WHEN I WAS RETURNING HOME TO CT I NOTICED THAT MY RED "AIR BAG" LIGHT WAS ON. FROM THAT POINT IT HAS BEEN ON CONTINUOUSLY. I CALLED LIA HYUNDAI IN HARTFORD, CT AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE TEST AND ANY REPAIRS. I OPTED TO NOT HAVE THE TEST AND REPAIRS DONE. IN 2013 I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM HYUNDAI ABOUT A RECALL INVOLVING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND WARNING LIGHT. I HAD MOVED TO FL IN APRIL OF 2013 AND AFTER I HAD SETTLED IN, I CALLED COCOA HYUNDAI IN COCOA, FL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT IF MY AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON CONTINUOUSLY, ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. ON 7-25-13 I BROUGHT MY CAR TO COCOA HYUNDAI TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. AFTER A WAIT OF AROUND 2 HOURS, THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYING ON CONTINUOUSLY WAS A SENSOR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT'S SEAT BELT BUCKLE. HE SAID THIS REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND IT WOULD COST ME $481 TO REPAIR. I OPTED NOT TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE BECAUSE THE QUOTE TO REPAIR A SEAT BELT BUCKLE ($481) WAS OUTRAGEOUSLY HIGH. I HAVE SINCE BEEN NOTIFIED BY HYUNDAI THAT COCOA HYUNDAI DID NOT FOLLOW THE PROTOCOL FOR THIS AIR BAG/PASSENGER SEAT RECALL WHICH REQUIRED THE DEALER TO REMOVE THE SEAT, HAVE IT SENT OUT FOR TESTING AND PROVIDE THE OWNER WITH A LOANER CAR. I AM ON A 4 MONTH WAITING LIST TO HAVE THE PROPER TEST AT COCOA HYUNDAI. *TR
