TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO INDICATE THE INCREASE IN SPEED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TUSCALOOSA HYUNDAI (3831 HARGROVE RD E, TUSCALOOSA, AL 35405 (205) 752-8113) WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED AND THE TIRES WERE BALANCED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED, BUT THE AXLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,315.
WHEN I TURN THE LEFT TURNING SIGNAL ON, THE FRONT LIGHTS FLICKERS AND SWITCH BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAMS. SOMETIMES THEY TURN OFF. ALSO THE INTERIOR DASH LIGHTS FLICKERS AND TURN BRIGHTER. I ALSO HAVE TO REPLACE FRONT AND BACK LIGHT BULBS 3 OR 4 TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR. I WENT ONLINE AND THESE PROBLEMS SEEMED TO BE A RECURRENT COMPLAIN.
EVERY THREE TO FIVE DAYS WHEN PUSH TO START VEHICLE IT WILL NOT TURN ON. ALL LIGHTS/ELECTRONICS COME ON BUT THE VEHICLE JUST WILL NOT START. WHEN TOWED TO THE DEALER OR TOW DRIVER ARRIVES THE CAR STARTS AGAIN. HAVE HAD THE BATTERY TESTED AND TESTED BAD, REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. HYUNDAI SAYS "CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM" AND SENDS ME ON MY WAY WITH NO RESOLUTION. NOW DEALER AS WELL AS HYUNDAI REGIONAL OFFICE REFUSE TO ANSWER THE PHONE OR RETURN ANY OF MY MESSAGES. HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST IF NOT MORE THAN 15 TIMES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 20 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE AND FELT HEAT ON HER FEET. A BYSTANDER PULLED THE CONTACT FROM THE VEHICLE AND FLAMES APPEARED UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG AND PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST, ABDOMEN, AND NECK. THE CONTACT ALSO SUSTAINED LEFT AND RIGHT LEG AND KNEE SCRATCHES AND BRUISES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DRIVER AND REAR MIDDLE SEAT PASSENGER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE ALSO SOUGHT MEDICAL ATTENTION, BUT THE EXTENT OF THEIR INJURIES WAS UNKNOWN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.

CAR NOT STARTING. BRAKE IS HARD NOT ABLE TO PUSH AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. CAR LOSES ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING. ON THE FREEWAY AND CAR LOSES POWER AND SLOWS DRAMATICALLY, THERE IS NO LIGHT ON THE DASH AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON. WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED ON FREEWAY 3X
HYUNDAI SONATA ENGINE FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I PUT IT IN PARK AND PUT MY HAZARDS ON. I PROCEEDED TO START THE CAR AND WHEN I DID, THE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. SMELLED LIKE WIRES ON FIRE. HYUNDAI WAS NOTIFIED AND MY CAR WAS TOWED AND FIXED AT THE DEALERSHIP. IT TOOK ABOUT 6 WEEKS TO FIX. TO MY DISAPPOINMENT, HYUNDAI IS ONLY OFFERING 12K MILES OR ONE YEAR WARRANTY. THIS CAR HAS HAD SEVERAL RECALLS AND I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER FOR EVERY ONE OF THEM. I SPENT 30K ON THIS CAR (HYUNDAI SONATA 2.0T) LOVE THE LOOK OF IT BUT NOT RELIABLE. I HAVE SENT THEM A LETTER TO ASK FOR A BETTER WARRANTY ON THE "NEW" ENGINE THEY REPLACED.

MY SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START UNLESS IT IS IN NEUTRAL OR IT WOULD NOT SHIFT AT ALL. IT HAPPENS WHEN I AM IN PARK OR WHEN I AM DRIVING IT IS IN DRIVE BUT GOES TO NEUTRAL ON ITS OWN. SO WHILE I DRIVE AND IT DOES THAT I HAVE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND THEN BACK TO DRIVE. SOMETIMES I WILL BE PARKED AND I TURN ON THE CAR AND IT WON'T SHIFT AT ALL. I HAVE TRIED TO TAKE IT IN AND I HAVE CALLED THE MANUFACTURE AND NO ONE THINKS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THEY KEEP GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT LISTED ON MY APPOINTMENT. SHOULDN'T THAT BE PRIORITY?

I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES REGARDING MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER162. THE DEALER'S ONLY RESPONSE IS THAT THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, SO I HAVE TO WAIT. CONSIDERING THAT THIS ISSUE MAY CAUSE THE ENGINE TO SEIZE AT ANY TIME, I DON'T FIND THIS TO BE ACCEPTABLE.

SOMETHING THAT SEEMS TO HELP IS CHANGING FROM THE PARKING POSITION TO THE DRIVE GEAR, AND THEN IMMEDIATELY SWITCHING BACK TO PARK, ALL WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKE. THEN THE CAR WILL START UP. SO IT SEEMS THAT THE CAR COMPUTER DOES NOT ALWAYS CORRECTLY RECOGNIZE THE GEAR THAT THE VEHICLE IS IN. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS SPORADICALLY.

I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS MULTIPLE TIMES DUE TO SPORADIC BLINKING, DIMNESS OR TOTAL OUTAGE. THIS INCLUDES ALL HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS. THIS IS QUITE TERRIFYING WHILE TRAVELING AT NIGHT. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN FRONT HEADLIGHTS THE MOST. I'VE CHANGED THESE MANY TIMES AND WAS EVEN WARNED BY POLICE IN ONE INSTANCE. THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WANTS $175 JUST TO LOOK AT IT. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER SONATA OWNERS, AND READ ABOUT MANY MORE, WHO HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

EXCESSIVELY LOUD AND INCREASED KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE. NOISE IS GETTING LOUDER WITH EVERY WEEK WHEN ACCELERATING.
WHILE DRIVING MULTIPLE INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON, (BRAKE, ABS, TRACTIONS CONTROL, STEERING, SEAT BELT, AIR BAG AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS.) T HIGHWAY SPEED THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO 1ST GEAR AND I WAS FORCED TO EXIT THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY. I SAFELY CAME TO A STOP AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I THEN RESTARTED IT AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET HOME. I THEN CALLED AAA AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. MY MECHANIC FOUND THAT THEY COULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH MOST MODULES/COMPUTERS THAT ARE IN THE CAR. AFTER HOURS OF TESTING, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE BACK UP CAMERA WAS CORRUPTING THE COMPUTER DATA LINES AND ESSENTIALLY SHUTTING DOWN CRUCIAL MODULES IN THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE CAMERA WAS REMOVED FROM THE CAR, THE VEHICLE OPERATIONS RETURNED TO NORMAL. PLEASE ADVISE HYUNDAI OF THIS ISSUE, SO OTHER MOTORISTS CAN BE SPARED THIS FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. TRUNK CAN BE CLOSED WHEN WALKING AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE BUT OPEN WHEN YOU RETURN. THE LATCH HAS BEEN REPLACED IN CASE THERE WAS A DEFECT BUT IT HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING, ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU CAN'T SEE OUT THE BACK WINDOW AND HAVE TO PULL OVER AS SOON AS YOU CAN SAFELY DO IT - NOT A GOOD SITUATION ON A HIGHWAY.
