The rear passenger control arm broke off of the subframe due to severe corrosion despite Hyundai applying a corrosion preventative under recall 17-01-013 on 12/1/2015. During all service work following the preventative in 2015, corrosion was never brought up as a concern by the dealership (we have all service records since date of initial purchase). Thankfully we had just reached our destination and were parking the car when the failure happened. Had the part failed 5 minutes earlier, we would have been on the highway at over 60mph and could have been seriously injured or worse. We had our Tucson towed to the dealership for repair as well as additional recall work under Campaign 952 for corrosion of the fuel band. We were contacted by the dealership on 8/22/24 and told that the new subframe could not be installed as the corrosion was so severe, the body mounts had also corroded away so there was nothing to attach the new subframe to. The dealership advised us that our Tucson is now totaled and it is SOLELY due to corrosion that Hyundai has been aware of and has been subject to multiple class action lawsuits over it. This is absolutely unacceptable. This car is still in perfect mechanical condition and the exterior has absolutely ZERO rust but now it can no longer be driven due to Hyundai’s shoddy subframes.
Check engine light came on. Had Advanced Auto check and informed it's an airbag module and I've not struck anything

The contact's daughter owned a 2007 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at approximately 45–50 MPH, she rear-ended another vehicle. The seat belt did not restrain the daughter in the seat, causing her chest to strike the steering wheel and her head to strike the front windshield. Additionally, the air bags did not deploy upon impact. The daughter received medical attention for a fractured sternum and bruising of the lungs. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and was not yet deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was caused by excessive force upon braking. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Rear subframe has excessive corrosion which lead to a a lower control arm failure. In short the control arm bracket on the subframe rusted away and the control arm fell off. My wife could have been killed. It seems that this same issue pertains to several Tuscons. Car is sitting on transport trailer currently.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph when the contact noticed smoke coming from the front driver's side brakes. The contact was able to pull over and had the vehicle towed to the contact's residence. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer. The manufacturer was informed of failure and told the contact that their VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.
Took my car to get inspected and would not pass inspection due to rust underneath the vehicle salt corrosion. Was advised that engine was going to fall out. Took my vehicle to Hyuandai dealer for a gas tank recall which they fixed about a month ago and are now denying claims to fix the rust-which the whole car underneath is rusting. Hyundai bowser has rust issues with their vehicles and recalls. Hyundai Bowser PA-51 and Lewis Run Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 412-469-2100. My car was at Bowser Dealership on 05/19/2021 and Tina case manger called 06/07/2021 they denied to fix rust salt corrosion on vehicle.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING A ROUTINE VEHICLE CHECK-UP BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION MAIN SEAL WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TEST DRIVEN AND THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE MAIN SEAL LEAK. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE HEATER FAILED TO ENGAGE PROPERLY. JOHNNY LONDOFF CHEVROLET (1375 DUNN RD, FLORISSANT, MO 63031, (314) 227-1437) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CONTACT NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 94,000.

THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART SOON AFTER FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BILL DODGE AUTO GROUP (4 SAUNDERS WAY, WESTBROOK, ME 04092) WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAD YET TO HEAR FROM THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,250.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED A HOLE ON THE REAR OF THE SUBFRAME DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUTONATION HYUNDAI O'HARE (1509 S RIVER RD, DES PLAINES, IL 60018) WHERE PICTURES WERE TAKEN OF THE HOLE IN THE SUBFRAME AND SUBMITTED TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR REVIEW. AFTER THE REVIEW, THE MANUFACTURER DECIDED NOT TO ASSIST THE CONTACT WITH THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO AN EXPIRED WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED, AND REMAINED IN THE POSSESSION OF THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,800.
MY 2007 TUSCON FAILED PA STATE INSPECTION DUE A LARGE HOLD IN THE LEFT REAR FRAME. ADVISED TO HAVE FRAME REPAIRED BUT COST IS MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH AT THIS TIME. WAS ADVISED THAT THIS IS NOT NEW DAMAGE, THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED ME, THEY HAVE WORKED ON THE CAR FOR OTHER MAJOR ISSUES 3 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. THE CAR HAD THE UNDERBODY CORROSION TREATMENT IN 2015 BUT THE DEALER CLAIMS THIS PART WAS NOT PART OF THE TREATMENT. I'M ASKING FOR HYUNDAI ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ISSUE, IT SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE AND COULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED IF REPORTED SOONER
WAS DRIVING AND BRAKES LOCKED UP, TOWING COMPANY LITERALLY DRAGGED THE CAR ONTO TOW TRUCK. SPOKE WITH MECHANIC AND HE SAID THEY HAVE AN 05 IN SHOP FOR SAME THING, THEY ARE PRETTY SURE IT IS THE HECU WHICH CAUSED A RECALL IN HYUNDAI GENESIS, BUT NO RECALL ON OTHER MAKES
2007 HYUNDAI TUCSON ON 10/22/2019 THE CAR WAS PARKED STATIONARY AT MY WIFES WORK WITHIN A HOUR OF HER BEING THERE SOMEONE RAN INTO THE BUILDING STATED A VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE WHICH WAS THE HYUNDAI TUCSON THIS VEHICLE HAD NO ISSUES AND WAS A GREAT LOSS.
REAR SUBFRAME OF MY 2007 HYUNDAI TUCSON RUSTED THROUGH. THE REAR SUBFRAME WAS TREATED FOR RUST IN MARCH 2017. OCTOBER 2019 THE REAR SUBFRAME RUSTED TO THE POINT OF NOT PASSING INSPECTION. CONSIDERING THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH OTHER HYUNDAI MODELS, HYUNDAI WOULDN'T STAND BY THEIR SAFETY AWARDS AND HELP ME WITH THIS BECAUSE MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF ANY RECALL PERTAINING TO REAR SUBFRAMES RUSTING.
COMPLETE RUSTING OUT OF REAR SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY AND ATTACHED COMPONENTS THAT RESULTED IN FAILURE OF THIS COMPONENT TO ALLOW ME TO MAINTAIN PROPER OF VEHICLE. THE REAR END OF MY TUCSON BEGAN TO SWAY VIOLENTLY. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR THIS ISSUE AND SAW THAT HYUNDAI DID HAVE A RECALL FOR THE RUST OUT OF THIS COMPONENT ON CERTAIN VEHICLE AND THAT OTHER TUCSON OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, THEY SUBMITTED PICTURES AND AN ESTIMATE TO HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI REFUSES TO REPAIR THE REAR SUSPENSION. THEY KNOW THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THESE COMPONENTS DURING THESE YEARS.
IN JUNE 2018 I TOOK MY CAR FOR VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTION N EMISSIONS IT PASSED. I HAVE HAD ROUTINE OIL CHANGES TIRE REPLACEMENT AT A KIA DEALERSHIP. I TOOK MY CAR FOR ANNUAL VIRGINIA INSPECTION. IT FAILED FOR SEVERE RUST AND HOLES IN MY SUBFRAME SUGGESTED UNSAFE TO DRIVE SHOULDN'T THIS HAVE BEEN NOTICED ON INSPECTION OR ANY OF TIMES IT HAD BEEN REPAIRED MY LAST OIL CHANGE WAS IN 2019 AS WELL AS TIRE REPAIRS. THE SHOP WHERE MY CAR WAS FAILED IS TAKING PICTURES FOR ME AND I AM FINDING ALL RECEIPTS FROM REPAIRS FOR LAST YEAR. UNSURE IF TO CONTACT DEALER OR HYUNDAI

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WOODHOUSE HYUNDAI OF OMAHA (8410 S 145TH ST, OMAHA, NE 68138) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR ON A HIGHWAY THE BRAKES BECAME STUCK AND THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT MOVE ANY DIRECTION. IT WAS TEMPORARILY FIXED BUT WAS TOLD THIS BRAKES WILL COST OVER $1000.00 BECAUSE OF AN ABF? NEEDED.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 12582573. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
BRAKES ARE VERY HARD TO PUSH, INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT THE VEHICLE STARTS TO ROLL ON ITS OWN AND BRAKE NEEDS TO BE REAPPLIED.THIS WILL CONTINUE TO OCCUR UNTIL PEDAL IS ALMOST AT THE FLOOR.
I WAS DOING A 75MPH IN THE STATE OF COLORADO AND SUDDENLY I LOST ALL THE POWER IN STEERING. THE BRAKES WERE JAMMED. THE STEERING WHEEL WON'T BUDGE. I GOT RATTLED IN THIS SITUATION BUT ADRENALINE TOOK OVER AND I COULD SLIGHTLY SWERVE THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY AND THEN ON THE SHOULDER. I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKES OFTEN, JUST TO SLOW DOWN THE SPEED AND HENCE TO A FULL STOP. THE PARKING BRAKE WAS MY ONLY RESORT IN THIS INCIDENT. I WAS FORTUNATE TO NOT HAVE MET WITH AN ACCIDENT. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. UPON DIAGNOSIS, I FOUND THAT THE TIMING BELT HAD BROKEN DOWN AND THIS RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF POWER TO MOTORS AND HENCE THE ENTIRE BREAKING AND STEERING ASSEMBLY. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGN FOR THE SAME, NO CHECK ENGINE OR ANY SIGN THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN. HAD THERE BEEN AN INDICATION, I WOULD HAVE GOT THE ISSUE SORTED OUT. THERE ARE PLENTY OF CARS ON ROAD WHICH ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS POSSIBLE ISSUE. THIS CAN CAUSE SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL OVER CAR AND HENCE CATASTROPHIC/ FATAL ACCIDENTS. I HAD TO TOW THE CAR FOR 200 MILES TO REPAIR SHOP. IT BROKE DOWN AT A LONELY SPOT. THE OFFICIAL POSITION OF THE COMPANY IS "WE HAVE NOT SEEN THIS ISSUE FOR A LOT OF SIMILAR CARS AND HENCE WE WON'T BE TAKING ANY ACTION". THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THERE MUST BE SOMEONE WHO IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR SUCH KIND OF ISSUES. AT LEAST A WARNING SHOULD BE SENT TO CURRENT CAR OWNERS SO THAT WE CAN SAVE SOME LIVES.
AFTER 3 HOURS OF HIGHWAY DRIVING AFTER BUYING CERTIFIED USED CAR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I DRIVE FOR ANOTHER HOUR AND THEN HAVE THE CODE SCANNED. THE CODE READER SAYS "TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID".AS WELL AS TRANSMISSION TEMP SENSOR CAR HAS 87000 MILES ROUGHLY... AS WELL AS SITTING AT A STOP RPMS ARE ALL UP AND DOWN ENGINE REVS WITH FOOT ON BREAK AND NOT EVEN TOUCHING GAS. VEHICLE JERKS FORWARD WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND OCCASIONALLY WHILE PARKED
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN IT WAS RAINING THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR STOPPED WORKING ABOUT HALFWAY UP AND HAS BEEN STUCK THERE CENTS
THE PARKING/RUNNING LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THIS CAN DRAIN THE BATTERY IF NOT NOTED WHEN TURNING OFF THE CAR. WEATHER/HUMIDITY/PRECIPITATION HAS NO BEARING ON THIS PROBLEM. LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OFF WHETHER VEHICLE ENGINE IS RUNNING OR OFF. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICING AND THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED/DIAGNOSED.
I WAS DRIVING WHEN INFORMED THAT BOTH BREAK LIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE EXACT SAME TIME AN I NO LONGER HAVE ANY BREAK LIGHT TO SIGNAL IF I WAS BREAKING. I TOOK CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT THE FUSES NOR WAS IT THE STOP SWITCH THAT IS CAUSING IT TO MALFUNCTION. IT HAS TO DO WITH THE WIRING ISSUE OF THE CAR. I THEN WAS INFORMED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE TYPE OF VECHILE THAT I HAVE AND SEVERAL PEOPLE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE MAKE AND MODEL OF THE VEHICLE
FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHTS LIT CONSTANTLY. HAD COMPUTER CHECKED AND CODES CLEARED, WITH SAME RESULT. NOW ADVISED BY DEALER CAR NEEDS NEW AIR BAG HARNESS AFTER TOOL DIAGNOSTICS DONE AT COST OF $2,265.00. MILAGE AT 137861. 2007 TUCSON. . . ,
ACCELERATOR PEDAL (PLASTIC) BROKE CLEAN OFF WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY (APPROX. 20 DEGREE INCLINE).
WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE AS THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME WAS BRAKING, MY BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. I SLAMMED INTO THE TRUCK AT APPROXIMATELY 47 MPH. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND MY SEAT BELT DID NOT TIGHTEN. NOTHING WORKED THE WAY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO.
THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY AS I WAS TURNING INTO OUR DRIVEWAY WITH MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR ACCELERATED AT FULL THROTTLE. I IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE ROARED. I THEN TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND IT WAS FINE THEN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE HAD NO INCIDENT SINCE THEN. I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE WITH THE CAR LURCHING LIKE THAT.

WHILE ACCELERATING, THE PEDAL FRACTURED AND FELL OFF. THE CAR DECELERATED TO IDLE SPEED.
2007 HYUNDAI TUCSON. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO AIR BAG WIRE HARNESS PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE AIR BAG ILLUMINATED, THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSIONER. THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE REPAIR SHOP WAS UNABLE TO CLEAR THE FAULT INDICATION. AT THEIR SUGGESTION, THE CONSUMER TO THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AS THEY WOULD HAVE THE EQUIPMENT TO CLEAR THE FAULT CODE. THE DEALER FOUND A BROKEN WIRE ON THE WIRE HARNESS CONNECTING TO THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER. THE CONSUMER WAS QUOTED A PRICE OF $ 2729.57 TO REPLACE THE HARNESS. THE CONSUMER REPAIRED THE BROKEN WIRE AND RECONNECTED THE WIRE HARNESS HIMSELF, AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT WENT OUT. *JB MA 10/2 UPDATED 10/08/15*JB
AFTER 2 HOURS OF HIGHWAY DRIVING AT 70 MPH, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I DRIVE FOR ANOTHER HOUR AND THEN HAVE THE CODE SCANNED. THE CODE READER SAYS "TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID". HYUNDAI WILL NOT PAY FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. I KNOW THERE IS A TECH. SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS, SO I WANTED TO NHTSA TO MAKE NOTE I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS SUCH THAT IT MAY TURN INTO A RECALL. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED REGARDING NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V113000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING); HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI TUCSON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE TRUNK AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. IN ADDITION, THE ROOF LINING WAS DETACHING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I BOUGHT THE 2007 HYUNDAI TUCSON A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. LAST WEEK THE ESC OFF LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON FROM TIME TO TIME. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL GOING ON THE TUCSONS BECAUSE OF A FAULTY STOP LAMP SWITCH WHICH CAN CAUSE THE ESC OFF LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER BUT THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO GET THEM TO REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH AS PART OF THE RECALL? *TR
I TOOK MY CAR IN TO BE SERVICED ON 2-19-14 DUE TO THE ESC LIGHT ILLUMINATING ON MY DASHBOARD. I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE MINIMALLY CHARGED $107 FOR DIAGNOSTIC. DIAGNOSTIC CODES FOUND C1513 BRAKE SWITCH CIRCUIT ERROR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED THE BRAKE SWITCH IS NOT OPERATING DUE TO AN INTERNAL SHORT. REPLACED BRAKE SWITCH AND WAS CHARGED $159.54. THREE DAYS LATER THE ESC LIGHT WAS BACK ON. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALERSHIP ON 3-7-14. WAS TOLD THE BRAKE SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND WAS REPLACED AT NO CHARGE, BUT TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED REPLACING BOTH BRAKE LIGHT BULBS. THEY WERE REPLACED AND I WAS CHARGED $29.57. THE ESC LIGHT CAME BACK ON 4-9-14. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN AGAIN ON 4-10-14. DIAGNOSTIC CODE C1513 FOUND THAT FUSE WAS BLOWN. REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM DEALERSHIP ABOUT SAFETY RECALL ABOUT STOP LAMP SWITCH ON 4-22-14. WHEN I CALLED ON 4-28-14 I WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ERROR. NO RECALL. MY SWITCH HAD BEEN REPLACED IN 2009.TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT I FOUND ON INTERNET ABOUT RECALL DATING BACK TO 4-1-13.WAS TOLD YOU CAN'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET AND THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. FALKEN ZEIX912 TIRES PURCHASED IN 2010 PUT 30K MILES ON THEM AND THEY WERE BALD FALKEN HAS A 65K WARRANTY ON THE TIRES BUT HAS FINE PRINT THAT SAYS THE TIRES MUST BE ROTATED EVERY 5K AND VEHICLE PROFESSIONALLY ALIGNED SO TIRES PLUS WOULD NOT HONOR WARRANTY YET STILL SELLS THIS PRODUCT. THESE TIRES WERE NORMAL USED AND VERY EVENLY WORN TO BALD. I EXPECTED AT LEAST A PRO RATE OF 45% ON NEW TIRES. WARRANTY AND TIRES NOT WORTHY OF EITHER NAME. *TR
TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND NOTICED THAT THEY RECOMMENDED CHANGING ALL 3 BRAKE LIGHTS. VERIFIED THAT ALL BRAKES LIGHTS WERE OUT AND ESC LIGHT ON. WENT ON NHTSA WEBSITE AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON BRAKE LAMP SWITCH FOR THAT VEHICLE. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT RECALL DID NOT PERTAIN TO MY VIN. SAID THAT IT HAD BEEN REPLACED IN 12/10/09 FOR A RECALL AT THAT TIME OF THE SAME PART. BELIEVE PART THAT WAS REPLACED WAS DEFECTIVE. DEALERSHIP REPLACED BRAKE LAMP SWITCH AGAIN *JS
THE CAR WAS IN THE PROCESS OF STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT, THE TACHOMETER SHOWED AND INCREASE TO ABOUT 2,000 RPM. I PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE THROTTLED BACK TO A NORMAL 800 RPM. THE REST OF THE SHORT TRIP WAS UNEVENTFUL. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER ON ANOTHER SHORT TRIP, I AGAIN CAME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND THE ENGINE AGAIN REVVED UP BUT THIS TIME TO ABOUT 4,000 RPM, I COULD HARDLY STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKES AND AGAIN PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WHEREUPON IT AGAIN SETTLED BACK TO A NORMAL 800 RPM. THE REST OF THE SHORT TRIP WAS UNEVENTFUL. THE SECOND TIME MY WIFE WAS IN THE CAR; SHE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AS SHE SAID IF THAT HAPPENED TO HER SHE WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY THE SERPENTINE BELT NEEDING TO BE REPLACED OR TIGHTENED. MY STOP LAMP SWITCH FAILED MAY 2009 AND FAILED AGAIN JULY 2012. CALLED HYUNDAI TODAY AND THEY SAY MY VIN IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL LISTED BELOW. SINCE THE PART HAS FAILED TWICE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY MY 2007 TUCSON IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. SINCE I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM TWICE I THINK THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO COVER MY CAR AND POSSIBLY OTHERS. POSTED: APR 21, 2009 10:06 A.M. IN A DEFECT NOTICE FILED WITH THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION, THE AUTOMAKER EXPLAINS, "THE STOP LAMP SWITCH IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY MALFUNCTION. A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS NOT TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, OR MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED." IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE THAT A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH COULD "AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK FEATURE," MAKING THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. "IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED."
