HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET, PULLED OVER. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON DASHBOARD TO INDICATE ANY KIND OF PROBLEM. CONTACT MY HUSBAND WHO INFORMED ME NOT TO MOVE THE CAR, AND TO HAVE IT TOWED TO OUR HOME HAS NOT MOVED SINCE TOWING. OIL CHANGE WAS DONE 3 MONTHS PRIOR. A FAMILY FRIEND INFORMED ME ABOUT A RECALL ON HYUNDAI VEHICLES,I WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY RE-CALL NOR WAS I CONTACTED BY HYUNDAI. I CALL TO INQUIRE THE WEEK OF 08/26 - 08/30, PROVIDED MY INFO AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO RECALL WAS LISTED FOR MY VEHICLE UNDER THE VIN#, ABOUT A WEEK LATER AFTER MY CALL, I GOT A NOTICE IN THE MAIL 09/09/19 FOR RE-CALL CAMPAIGN 181 - 19V063 SPOKE WITH A REPRESENTATIVE GOT A CASE#. TOWED MY VEHICLE TO DEALER SHIP 09/16/2019 WAS ADVISED MAY NEED A NEW ENGINE.
MY CAR (2012 HYUNDAI TUCSON) WAS EFFECTED BY RECALL 181, ANNOUNCED IN APRIL OF 2019. MY ENGINE SEIZED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 80 MPH, LUCKILY WE WERE ABLE TO PULL ON TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. HAD IT BEEN A MILE OR TWO DOWN THE ROAD THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN A TUNNEL AND THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN DRAMATICALLY DIFFERENT AS THERE IS NO SHOULDER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY LOCAL GARAGE WHERE THEY TESTED VARIOUS THINGS INCLUDING STARTER, ALTERNATOR, BATTERY ETC AND DETERMINED THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTIC IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE IS SEIZED. NOW I AM IN A WAITING GAME TO SEE IF HYUNDAI WILL DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPLACE THE ENGINE.
MY VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A CLANKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING, I PULLED OVER TO CHECK WHAT THE NOISE WAS, WHEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW A FLUID COMING OUT, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME BUT THE CLANKING WAS STILL GOING THEN AS I TRIED TO GO A LITTLE FASTER AROUND 30MPH THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I PULLED INTO MY COMPLEX AND THE CAR COMPLETELY DIED, I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR UP AGAIN NO LIGHTS CAME ON BUT THERE WAS STILL CLANKING COMING FROM THE FRONT. NEXT MORNING I DROVE IT UP THE STREET TO MY MECHANIC THE CAR DID THE SAME THING BUT THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE OIL LIGHT WAS FLICKERING, AND AS I PULLED INTO THE MECHANIC SHOP THE CAR DIED WHILE I WAS IN MID TURN. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A SMALL OIL LEAK BUT NEEDED TO OPEN THE ENGINE TO FIND OUT MORE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE SO I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE CAUSE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT, AS I DID RESEARCH I FOUND THAT HYUNDAI HAS TWO DIFFERENT CARS WITH THE SAME TYPE OF ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE. HYUNDAI FINALLY CAME WITH A DIAGNOSTIC THAT IT WAS MY SPUN BEARING THAT WAS THE ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE, WHICH IS THE EXACT ISSUE AS THE TWO OTHER CARS THE SONATA AND SANTA FE FROM HYUNDAI WITH A RECALL. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO HYUNDAI MANUFACTURING TO INFORM THEM OF THE ISSUE, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HYUNDAI DEALER WHO DID THE DIAGNOSTIC DOES NOT HAVE TO REPORT THESE FINDINGS IF THEY DO NOT WANT TO. I HAVE SEEN COMPLAINTS WITH MY TYPE OF VEHICLE ON THE INTERNET ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM ALONG WITH OTHER FORUMS ONLINE WITH THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE ON THE HYUNDAI TUCSON 2012.
AUG 11TH MY CAR STARTED MAKING A SLIGHT TICKING NOISE, I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH HYUNDAI FOR SERVICE TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE NOISE. AS I LEFT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF WILLIAMSBURG HYUNDAI THE DAY I MADE THE APPOINTMENT, I ASKED THE SERVICE ATTENDANT IF HE WAS SURE THE CAR WAS OK TO DRIVE, HE ASSURED ME IT WOULD BE OKAY. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE ENGINE STARTED TO VIBRATE AMD SHAKE SO BAD I HAD TO PULL OVER AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME IN FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE 2012 HYUNDAI TUSCON. I WAS ABLE TO TURN AROUND AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE @25MPH WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON, BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT WAS NOW CLOSED. I FILLED OUT THE INFORMATION FOR THE AFTER HOURS DROP OFF AND LEFT THE CAR AT THE SERVICE GARAGE. I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY THAT I NEEDED A NEW MOTOR!!!!!! THERE WAS NO WARNING!! I MAINTENANCES MY VEHICLE REGULARLY, THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AND IT UNACCEPTABLE.

THE CONTACT PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. AFTER WAITING THIRTY MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT IT STILL MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VIN WAS ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V063000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FAIRFAX HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 10925 FAIRFAX BLVD, FAIRFAX, VA 22030, (703) 352-0444) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V063000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI TUCSON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS DIFFICULT TO OPERATE WHEN TRANSITIONING IN AND OUT OF THE REVERSE GEAR. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED INTO REVERSE, THE GEAR SHIFTER BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BOCH HYUNDAI (391 PROVIDENCE HWY, NORWOOD, MA 02062, (877) 399-3275) ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH ON A BUSY 4 LANE STREET, MY CAR STALLED WITHIN A HALF A MILE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. AFTER THE ENGINE STOPPED, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL CAME ON. WAS TOWED TO MECHANIC WHERE HE STATED ENGINE DIED RELATED TO A PISTON BEARING. MY CAR HAD OIL, BUT WAS DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. MY CAR IS BEEN AT HYUNDAI FOR A WEEK WITH NO ANSWERS OR RESOLUTIONS.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
2012 HYUNDAI TUCSON. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FUEL SWITCH SAFETY RECALL. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL SWITCH FAILED AND CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRING BUT, THERE WAS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE AT THE TIME. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI TUCSON. WHILE DRIVING 70-80 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHOOK. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, OPENED THE HOOD, AND NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE WITH THEIR OWN WATER BOTTLE. NO POLICE REPORT WAS MADE. THEIR WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED WHEN PUTTING OUT THE FIRE HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID RECEIVE BRUISES FROM SLIDING DOWN A HILL IN SEARCH FOR MORE WATER TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT DIDN'T KNOW IF THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MILLER HYUNDAI (4477 VESTAL PARKWAY EAST VESTAL NY, 13850) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AND WAS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED FOR THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOW WAITING FOR INFORMATION FROM HYUNDAI AND THE CONTACT PROVIDED THE MANUFACTURER EVIDENCE FROM THE FIRE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V063000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
ON JULY 4, 2019 I WAS DRIVING AND MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY BROKE DOWN WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 60MPH IN MANAHAWKIN NJ ON RT. 72. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES LEADING UP TO THIS. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. SINCE THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED B/C OF THE HOLIDAY I HAD IT TOWED TO MR. TIRE. THEY AT FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR THEN THE STARTER, BUT THEN DECIDED IT WAS AN ENGINE ISSUE. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS AN ENGINE FAILURE AND IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER IT TOOK A FEW WEEKS TO EVEN GET THAT DETERMINATION. THEN I WAS TOLD THAT PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER AND IT WOULD BE A MINIMUM OF 3 MONTHS. AFTER WEIGHING OPTIONS I DECIDED TO SADLY TRADE IN THE VEHICLE. ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2019 I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THE CAR (NHTSA RECALL #: 19VX-063; HYUNDAI RECALL #: 181) FOR OIL LEAK THAT COULD LEAD TO ENGINE DAMAGE, STALLED ENGINE, RISK OR CRASH OR FIRE. I AM VERY UPSET THAT I AM JUST RECEIVING THIS RECALL NOW AND THE INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON A VERY BUSY ROAD AT THE TIME OF THE BREAK DOWN BUT IT COULD HAVE VERY WELL PUT ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN BIRMINGHAM, COMING FROM STOCKBRIDGE, GA WE HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD AND PULLED OVER. THE NOISE INCREASED, SO WE HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED ALL THE WAY BACK TO GEORGIA TO A HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER. IT TURNS OUT THE ROB BEARING FAILED, WAS THE DIAGNOSIS. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN OCT 2018 THE CAR BROKE DOWN JULY 2019. HYUNDAI TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $10,000 TO REPLACE WITH A NEW ENGINE OR $6,000 USED WITH 90K MILES ON USED ENGINE. I WROTE A LETTER TO HYUNDAI, WHO THEY HAD SOMEONE CONTACT ME AND TOLD ME JUST TO WAIT THERE WILL BE A RECALL SOON. TWO MONTHS LATER I RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE FOR AN OIL PAN LEAK RECALL #19V063000. THAT WAS TOO LATE! THE CAR IS SITTING IN MY GARAGE BECAUSE I FEEL THAT HYUNDAI IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THIS CAR. I JUST READ WHERE HYUNDAI/KIA HAD A CLASS ACTION SUIT ON THEM AND THEY SETTLED, BUT 2012 TUCSON WAS NOT LISTED ONLY 2014, 2015, 2018 &2019 TUCSON. HOW DO YOU START A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT?

MANUFACTURER SENT RECALL LETTER IN EARLY FEBRUARY STATING THE ENGINE WAS UNDER RECALL FOR OIL LEAK / POSSIBILITY OF FAILURE CAUSING A SERIOUS LOSS OF POWER SITUATION WHILE DRIVING NO ADVERSE ACTION THIS FAR BUT WE NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AS THE ENGINE MAY AIL AT ANY TIME WITH NO WARNING

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, HE HEARD AN EXPLOSION IN THE ENGINE AND THE POWER BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. THE ENTIRE PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS SMOKING AND THE CONTACT HAD TO BE HELPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE BY A PASSER BY. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE WAS FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE BY THE ENGINE AND WENT TO THE REAR PASSENGER DOORS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE AND FIRE REPORT WERE COMPLETED AND THE FLAMES WERE FINALLY PUT OUT BY THE FIRE COMPANY. THE DEALER KEY HYUNDAI 4660 SOUTHSIDE BLVD #100, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32216 (904) 642-6060 WERE EMAILED BY THE CONTACT TO TRY TO ARRANGE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THEIR LOCATION FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT YET CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY TUCSON ABOUT 50-55 MPH ON A TWO WAY HIGHWAY (3) WHEN MY CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE, THE NOISE WAS LIKE IT WAS KNOCKING AND SCREECHING. THE CAR THEN STARTED SHACKING AND SLOWED TO ABOUT 20-25 MPH. I PUT MY FLASHERS ON AS SEVERAL CARS PASSED ME. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I PULLED OFF THE ROAD. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME ANY OF THESE THINGS HAPPENED WITH MY CAR. I CALLED MY HUSBAND, WHO WAS OUT OF TOWN. HE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO HIS BUSINESS AND THEN TOWED TO A REPAIR BUSINESS ONCE HE RETURNED. HIS MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE CAR AND TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT THE CAR HAD A THROWN ROD. HE SAVED OIL WHICH HE SAID HAS SHAVINGS IN IT. HE ALSO TOLD HIM THAT HYUNDAI TUCSON'S, SANTA FE, AND SONATA HAVE HAD THESE PROBLEMS. MY HUSBAND WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. THE MANAGER SAID THIS MODEL HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. HOWEVER, WE RECEIVED A CARD FROM HYUNDAI ON APPROXIMATELY JUNE 12-14, 2019 STATING THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS UNDER A RECALL AND THAT WE WOULD BE CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY WITH OIL CHANGES, ETC. WHICH ARE DOCUMENTED. THE VEHICLE HAS 150,229 MILES. IN LIGHT OF THE MECHANIC TELLING US ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, WE FILL THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. THE MECHANIC INDICATED THAT HYUNDAI RECALLED THE SANTA FE AND SONATA WITH THE EXACT SAME MOTOR, BUT DID NOT RECALL THE TUCSON. HE ALSO INDICATED THAT 30,000 TUCSON'S WERE RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS OURS IN CANADA. HOW CAN THIS BE THERE AND NOT IN THE UNITED STATES? THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I AM RELIEVED THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING REAR ENDED. PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE BY HYUNDAI. I CAN SUBMIT A PHOTO OF OUR VEHICLE AND THE OIL IN THE JAR, AND THE MOTOR, IF THAT WOULD HELP. I HAD TO LOOK FOR THIS WEBSITE TO SEE WHAT OUR RECOURSE WAS. MOST PEOPLE I HAVE TALKED WITH ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS WEBSITE FOR PROBLEMS.

THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED DORAL HYUNDAI (2700, 10285 NW 12TH ST, DORAL, FL 33172, (305) 722-6094) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V063000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
YESTERDAY AROUND 9:00 PM I WAS DRIVING ON HWY 150 IN SAN ANTONIO TX WITH MY KIDS AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON ON THE DASH BOARD OR CLUSTER AND THE ENGINE DIE ON ME AND WOULDN'T START I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AFTER PAYING 220.00 FOR TOWING , NOW ITS AT RED MCCOMBS HYUNDAI RUBEN RODRIGUEZ SERVICE ADVISOR SAID HE WILL GIVE ME AND ANSWER
THERE IS APPARENTLY AN ISSUE WITH MY ENGINE. IT IS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE AND MY SHOP SAYS IT WILL HAVE TO BE SERVICED SOON AND THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THESE MODELS.
WHILE DRIVING HOME I HEARD A SUDDEN STRANGE NOISE COMING FROM MY CAR. I PULLED OVER AND WALKED AROUND MY VEHICLE TO SEE IF I COULD SEE ANYTHING. WENT TO START MY CAR BACK UP AND IT WOULDN'T START AND MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. GOT OUT POPPED THE HOOD, LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE, AND THERE WAS OIL FROM MY CAR ON THE GROUND. HAD TO CALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY TOWED MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP.
