TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOCKING MECHANISM ON THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR MALFUNCTIONED AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE NOR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT YET DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER HYUNDAI OF LAS VEGAS (7150 W SAHARA AVE STE B, LAS VEGAS, NV 89117) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I have had three of the four doors unable to open at different time before repairing them. This is a safety issue putting my daughter trapped in the vehicle with the only way out to climb over the seats. If in an accident she would be unable to get out of the car quickly. I don't understand why this hasn't been addressed by NHTSA yet. Having a vehicle that could trap you in it is unsafe. One door was repaired when still under warranty, the next was repaired and paid for and now it's happened to another door that needs repairs and finally the drivers door appears it's going to have the same thing happen to it. Currently once the vehicle is unlocked you have to pull on the door handle twice before it opens. First pull still feels locked second pull opens it.
Several doors are unable to be opened from both the inside and outside. This is very concerning to me, as in the event of an emergency passengers (including children in car seats) will be able to evacuate the car. After some research it appears many people have this issue with different models of Hyundai vehicles from that time period and yet no recall has been put out. I have never been in an accident in this vehicle and the doors are not dented or otherwise damaged. This problem started slowly, with the door handle not opening on the first try but opening after a few pulls. Over time it got the point where it will not open at all, inside or outside. And over time this has happened with all 4 doors. The two rear doors will not open at all. The front two doors are finicky and take several tries before opening.

The contact had spoken with the dealer however, an appointment was not yet scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 MPH and attempting to accelerate, there was a grinding noise coming from the vehicle. Additionally, if the accelerator pedal was not depressed a certain way, the vehicle would stall. The oil light would illuminate upon starting the vehicle and would disappear after a while. The contact would restart the vehicle 3-4 times before the vehicle would regain proper functionality. The failure occurred again while driving 50 mph. The doors failed to open from the inside or the outside except for the driver side door. However, for the driver’s door the contact had to lift the handle twice before the door would open. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
I HAD MY VEHICLES OIL CHANGE COMPLETED 3/17/21. ON 3/31/21 MY VEHICLES OIL LIGHT DISPLAYED AS HAVING NO OIL. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED AND WENT BACK TO THE OIL CHANGE CENTER I'VE GONE TO FOR THE 3 YEARS I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE. THEY ASSURED ME THERE WAS NO LEAK. I LOOKED UP THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET ONLY TO FIND I AM ONE OF MANY WITH THIS ISSUE. I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR ENGINE REPAIRS ESPECIALLY WHEN I'VE BEEN CONSISTENT WITH MY OIL CHANGE MAINTENANCE. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND MAKE THESE REPAIRS OR BUY BACK THE VEHICLES LIKE VOLKSWAGEN HAD TO DO A FEW YEARS AGO.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,400.

WHILE DRIVE MY CAR STARTED MARKING A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE AND JUMPING BACK AND FORTH AND THE OIL CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED MY SON. HE CAME AND CHECKED IT OUT, THERE WAS NO OIL IN IT. HE PUT OIL IN AND AND I TRIED TO DRIVE HOME. THE CAR HAD NO POWER AND SHUT DOWN ON ME AND MY SON HAD TO TOW ME HOME. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS CAME ON 50 TIMES AND IN THE LAST YEAR AND THEM GOES OFF. I TOOK IT TO DEALER SHIP 10 DIFFERENT TIMES WHILE THE LIGHT WAS ON, USUALLY IT GOES OFF BEFORE I GET THERE. THEY ALWAYS CLAIMED THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM AND SAID I GOT BAD GAS IN IT.

R/R DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILURE. DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. SAFETY HAZARD FOR ANYONE IN REAR SEAT TO EXIT VEHICLE. APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE THAT ISN'T ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. PASSENGER GOT INTO CAR WITH NO ISSUE. 15 MIN DRIVE AND WHEN ARRIVED AT DESTINATION DOOR WAS INOPERABLE. LOCKS/UNLOCKS WITH NO ISSUE. WHEN PULL HANDLE FROM INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR NO RESPONSE INSIDE THE DOOR. $500+ TO FIX
FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THE RIGHT REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OR IN MOTION. THE POWER DOOR LOCK BUTTON OPERATES CORRECTLY, BUT THE RR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN EITHER FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY DAMAGE TO THE DOOR, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, OR VEHICLE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN SHOULD THE VEHICLE CATCH FIRE, OR BE INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WITH A CHILD IN THE REAR SEAT. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE " WHY WON'T MY RR DOOR OPEN ON MY 2016 TUCSON". I'VE LEARNED THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH MANY HYUNDAI OWNERS SINCE 2018. I HAVE NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER YET, BUT I PLAN TO SOON. SOME VEHICLE OWNERS HAVE PAID THE DEALER OVER $1,300 TO REPAIR THE DOOR. I AM A RETIRED POLICE INVESTIGATOR, AND I KNOW THE DANGER THAT SUCH AN ISSUE LIKE THIS CAN CAUSE. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT NO OTHER HYUNDAI DEALERS IN THE AREA HAD PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle almost stalled. The contact heard an abnormal popping sound. The contact stated that the vehicle began to lose motive power. The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact then smelled an abnormal burning odor. The contact stated that when she attempted to depress the brake pedal, the pedal became very stiff. The contact stated that the check engine and battery warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull off the roadway and the vehicle stalled. The contact had difficulty shifting the vehicle into park(P) and was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was unknown.
WHILE RUNNING ERRANDS DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AFTER BEING UNLOCKED WITH REMOTE OR WITH BUTTON ON HANDLE. DRIVER DOOR WOULD ONLY OPEN WHEN OPENED FROM THE INSIDE THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WILL UNLOCK BUT DRIVERS DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AFTER IT HAS BEEN LOCKED.
OIL IN THE CAR CANNOT REACH PARTS OF THE ENGINE, AND IS BEING CONSUMED ABNORMALLY QUICKLY. IT HAS CAUSE MY ENGINE TO TEMPORARLY SIEZE, AND RELEASE, AND NOW WILL NOT EVEN START.
ALL DOORS LOCKED AND WON'T OPEN WITH KEY/FOB. IF A CHILD IS LOCKED IN THERE AND I CAN'T GET INSIDE THIS ISSUE COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO FIX.
MY 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON WAS FAILING TO ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP, AND SHUDDERING / SLOWING DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS VERY ALARMING ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING ON BUSY ROADS IN WHICH YOU COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BY NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I TOOK MY CAR TO HYUNDAI TO FIND OUT IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION (AGAIN, IN 2021) - WHILE I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL IN 2016 FOR THIS ISSUE I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT HYUNDAI WOULD NOT COVER THE COSTS OF REPAIR. I HAVE FILED A CLAIM WITH HYUNDAI BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY CONTACT BACK. MY VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND I AM BEING TOLD I WILL BE CHARGED STORAGE FEES IF I LEAVE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER WITHOUT REPAIR WHILE I WAIT TO SETTLE MY CLAIM. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, DUE TO AN ISSUE THAT HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN RECALLED.
DOOR HANDLE WILL NOT OPEN BACK DOOR, AND FRONT DOOR HANDLE DRIVER SIDE MUST BE PULLED MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE OPENING. REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL. LATCH MECHANISM NOT WORKING PROPERLY.
DOOR ACTUATORS FAIL AND DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND HYUNDAI HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE ISSUE WITH AN UPDATED DESIGN OR RECALL ON OLDER FAILING DOOR ACTUATORS. NOTE, WHEN I SAY OLD, THESE ARE 5-6 YEARS OLD. AS A FIRST RESPONDER, I AM APPALLED THAT THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED AND RESOLVED ALREADY. IF I AM TRYING TO GAIN ACCESS TO A PERSON INVOLVED IN A WRECK AND I HAVE TO REQUEST OR PERFORM ADVANCED EXTRICATION SIMPLY BECAUSE OF POORLY DESIGNED ACTUATORS THEN THE FAMILIES OF THOSE ENTRAPPED VICTIMS SHOULD BE ABLE TO SUE HYUNDAI FOR DAMAGES.
DRIVER'S REAR DOOR NO LONGER OPENS RELIABLY. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE FIRST STEP TO A COMMON PROBLEM OF THE DOORS BECOMING COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. HYUNDAI SEEMS UNWILLING TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM.
THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR OF MY VEHICLE WILL NOT OPEN. I CANNOT OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE OR INSIDE. IT SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE DOOR NOT UNLOCKING EVEN THOUGH THE UNLOCK TAB IS FLIPPING. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CMA'S COLONIAL HYUNDAI (2200 WALTHALL CENTER DR, CHESTER, VA 23836) AND DIAGNOSED AS ENGINE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO A CASE MANAGER. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,600.
THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. IT STARTED OUT AS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WHERE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN ON THE FIRST OR SECOND TRY BUT WOULD EVENTUALLY OPEN. IT QUICKLY BECAME A PERMANENT PROBLEM WHERE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AT ALL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AS I HAVE 2 YOUNG CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS IN THE BACK SEAT AND NEED TO BE ABLE TO OPEN BOTH REAR DOORS TO GET THEM IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE.
RECEIVED RECALL LETTER. CALLED DEALER WHERE PURCHASED AND SPOKE WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO ORDER THE PART (FOR THIS VERY IMPORTANT RECALL WHERE I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR) AND THEY WOULD CALL WHEN PART ARRIVED. THAT WAS ON 3/22/2021. THEY ADVISED IT WOULD TAKE 2 WEEKS. TODAY IS 4/29/2021 AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS PLACED ON HOLD. THEY CAME BACK ONLINE AND ASKED IF I WANTED TO LEAVE MY NAME AND NUMBER AND SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME BACK. I SAID "NO" BECAUSE I KNEW NO ONE WOULD CALL ME BACK AND WAS PLACED ON HOLD AGAIN. DURING THIS TIME FRAME I HAVE RECEIVED REPEATED MAIL FROM HYUNDAI WANTING ME TO TRADE IN MY CAR FOR A NEW ONE. THEY AGAIN CAME ON THE LINE AND SAID "NO ONE WAS AVAILABLE TO TAKE MY CALL". I HUNG UP. SO NOW I HAVE A VEHICLE I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE AND NO WAY TO HAVE THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OF.
My back passenger door will not open from the inside or outside.

MY CHILD OR ANYONE IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE CAN NOT GET OUT OF THEIR DOOR BECAUSE THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL EVEN WHEN UNLOCKED THIS HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR 4 DAYS NO MATTER WHAT I TRY THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. THIS IS NOT A MALFUCTION THIS IS ACUTALLY A SAFELY HAZZARD. MY CHILD IS TRAUMATIZED AND HAS NIGHTMARES BECAUSE HE FEARS HE WILL DIE IF THERE IS A FIRE IN THE CAR HE IS AUTISTIC.

CAR IS USING MORE THAN ONE QUART OF OIL PER 1,000 MILES. CAR IS NOT LEAKING OIL AND OIL CHANGES ARE DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP EVERY 3500 MILES. HAVING TO CHECK OIL LEVELS CONSTANTLY AND KEEP QUARTS OF OIL IN CAR TO FILL IN CASE IT IS LOW. HYUNDAI ST AUGUSTINE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM.
REAR DOOR DOES NOT OPEN AT ALL. LOCKING MECHANISM MUST BE BROKEN OR JAMMED. DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE WHEN LOCKED OR UNLOCKED. NO EVENT OCCURRED THAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD.
THIS HAPPENED LAST MONTH AS WELL. DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN WHILE IT IS PARKED AND ON, IT LOCKS AND UNLOCKS BUT WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE WHILE IT'S UNLOCKED. LAST TIME IT FIXED AFTER PULLING ON IT APPROXIMATELY 25 TIMES TOTAL. I HAVE TRIED MANUALLY AND AUTOMATICALLY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING AND TRYING TO OPEN BUT NOTHING WORKS. THIS TIME IS IS NOT WORKING AND BECOMES A SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN.
THE LEFT SIDE REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE .. ALSO NOW THE DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY. NOT BEING ABLE TO GET MY CHILD IN OR OUT OF THE CAR ON THE LEFT SIDE IS VERY WORRIESOME IF THERE WAS ANY TYPE OF AN EMERGANCY. IT HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED AS OF YET BUT I AM TAKING IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW 6.17.21. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR NOTIFICATION DESCRIBING THE DEFECT OF THE DOORS.
IN 2019, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR FAILED TO OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. WE HAD IT REPAIRED BY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. NOW, THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR IS DOING THE SAME. WE CAN UNDERSTAND ONE BAD PART, BUT FOUND IT TOO COINCIDENTAL THAT IT HAPPENED TWICE. NEITHER WAS DUE TO OPERATOR CAUSED DAMAGE OR MISUSE. WE RESEARCHED IT AND FOUND MANY OTHERS SUFFERING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY MANUFACTURER. THIS VEHICLE IS PRIMARILY SINGLE PASSENGER USE WITH OCCASIONAL USE OF THE OTHER DOORS TO PUT GROCERIES IN/OUT. HAD IT BEEN FAILURE FROM OVERUSE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE DRIVER DOOR.
MULTIPLE SENSORS AND LIGHTS ON THE DASH ARE ILLUMINATED, INCLUDING THE AIRBAGS, BRAKES, TRACTION CONTROL, HILL ASSIST, TIRE PRESSURE, ETC. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS RELATED TO A VACUUM PUMP ISSUE. OTHER HYUNDAIS ARE UNDER RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, BUT MY VIN DOES NOT SHOW UP AS COVERED. THIS IS AN EXTREME HAZARD AS THE CAR IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, AND IF THE SENSOR ARE NOT FUNCTIONING, PROPERLY, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE AIRBAGS OR OTHER SAFETY SYSTEMS WILL FUNCTION AS INTENDED WITH THIS UNDERLYING PROBLEM. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL OF THE 1.6 TUCSONS, AS IT'S OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE ACROSS THE MANUFACTURER AND MULTIPLE MODELS. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, AND THESE SYSTEMS ENGAGE RANDOMLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FUNCTION POORLY. ADDITIONALLY THIS AFFECTS EMISSIONS.
AIR CONDITIONER GOES FROM COLD TO HOT CONSTANTLY.
MY 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. I HAVE TO OPEN IT FROM THE INSIDE. MY BACK RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN FROM EITHER INSIDE OR OUTSIDE AND I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS HAPPENS A LOT WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. NHTSA SHOULD REALLY LOOK INTO THIS AND ISSUE A RECALL.
REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR NO LONGER WORKS. UNABLE TO OPEN DOOR AT ALL. CAR WAS PARKED.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION RESULTED IN ENGINE FAILURE WITH OUT WARNING LIGHTS APPEARING. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, BATTERY, OIL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS APPEARED. THE CAR ROLLED TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE CAR THEN WOULD NOT RESTART, BUT HAD POWER AND BATTERY LIFE LEFT DUE TO THE BATTERY BEING 1 YR OLD. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CITED ENGINE FAILURE AND SAID IT WAS DUE TO OIL CONSUMPTION. THE OIL HAD LARGE AMOUNT OF METAL IN IT DESPITE IT HAVING 128K MILES ON IT.
THE PASSENGER SIDE BACK DOOR WILL NOT OPEN WHEN CAR IS UNLOCKED. THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE EITHER. THE HANDLE HAS TO BE PULLED FORCEFULLY SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE DOOR WILL OPEN.

WHEN PARKED WITH EITHER THE ENGINE RUNNING OR NOT, FRONT PASSENGER DOOR REQUIRES REPEATED PULLS ON EXTERIOR HANDLE TO OPEN AN UNLOCKED DOOR. DOOR OPENS FINE USING INTERIOR HANDLE. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO AND NOW THE DRIVER'S DOOR IS EXHIBITING THE SAME SYMPTOMS. JUST SHORT OF 63,000 MILES, MY KEY FOB QUIT UNLOCKING THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR IN IT'S NORMAL SEQUENCE. I HAVE TO KEEP PRESSING "UNLOCK" SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE LOCK OPENS. THE OTHER DOORS SEEM RESPONSIVE AT THIS TIME. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES I HAVE HAD TO USE THE KEY. I HAVE NOT TAKEN MY CAR TO THE SHOP YET, BUT WANTED TO ADD MY EXPERIENCE TO YOUR DATABASE. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY HYUNDAI ACCORDING TO PEOPLE WRITING ABOUT IT ON A POPULAR AUTOMOTIVE WEBSITE AND I AM HOPING THAT ATTENTION BROUGHT TO THIS FLAW WILL TRIGGER A RECALL. I AM FEARFUL THAT THE PROBLEM WILL SPREAD TO OTHER DOORS OR THAT I MAY BE PREVENTED FROM EXITING MY DRIVER DOOR WHEN I NEED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR.
