Over the last 5-6 years, the 2016 Tucson has experienced an acceleration issue. When making a turn after a stop, the car will not accelerate above 30 mph. The RPMs will go up to 3000-4000, but the car will not go above 30 miles per hour. This has happened 5 times. I have had my mechanic look at the car, but because it was intermittent, they could not determine the cause. The fuel pump as well as the purge solenoid have been replaced on the car. If I turn the car off and let it sit for a few minutes, the issue seems to resolve. Only once has the check engine light gone on. Because the car will not accelerate this is causing a safety issue.
The contact’s daughter owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that his daughter took the vehicle for routine maintenance for an oil change however, the contact’s daughter was informed that gasoline was seen in the oil. No warning light was illuminated. The contact then stated that he took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that no fuel was seen in the oil. The contact then stated that he took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that gasoline was in the oil. The contact was concerned for his daughter’s safety while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000. The VIN was not included.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY MY CALLED STALLED. I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED STALLING AND I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. MY CAR WAS COASTING AT THIS POINT DUE TO LACK OF ACCELERATION. I INTERRUPTED THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND HAD TO GO FROM THE FAR LEFT LANE TO RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN TO NO AVAIL. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. 10 MINUTES FROM HOME THE STALLING STARTED AGAIN, I GOT OFF THE MAIN HIGHWAY, PULLED ONTO A SIDE STREET AND PULLED HEAD INTO A PARKING SPOT AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR, PUT IT INTO REVERSE BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE WHEN I HIT THE ACCELERATOR. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO REVERSE THE CAR. AS I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE THE STALLING STARTED AGAIN, I WENT TO BACK MY CAR INTO MY GARAGE SPOT I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE THE CAR INTO REVERSE. I CUT THE CAR OF AND RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO REVERSE MY CAR INTO MY SPOT. THE NEXT DAY (7/20/20) I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE.I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE ON 7/21/20 AND THEY PERFORMED VIGOROUS ROAD TESTS, SCANNED FOR CODES NO CODES PRESENT, CAR WAS LEFT TO IDLE FOR 20 MINUTES AND STILL NO ISSUES AT THIS TIME. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE CAR FROM 7/21-7/23/20. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR , ESPECIALLY WITH IT STALLING ON THE PARKWAY WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR MYSELF, MY CURRENT PASSENGER(S) AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. I'M THANKFUL THE CAR BEHIND ME WASN'T TAILGATING OR HE WOULD HAVE SLAMMED INTO ME.
SOMETIMES CAR DOES NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE COMPLETELY AFTER MAKING A COMPLETE STOP. IT MAKES OVER 5 SECONDS SOMETIMES TO START ACCELERATING. WHICH IS QUITE SCARY WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS, THE CAR WILL SLIGHTLY MOVE (MAYBE 5MPH) THEN GET STUCK IN THAT GEAR FOR A LACK OF BETTER WORDS. MAKING YOU STUCK IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC SOMETIMES.

VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE PAST 30 MPH AFTER BEING STOPPED. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR ACTUALLY SLOWED THE VEHICLE FURTHER. I SEE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT SUPPOSEDLY MY VEHICLE (WHICH I RECENTLY PURCHASED USED) WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL (MY VIN) ALTHOUGH IT WAS MANUFACTURED DURING THE MAY 20, 2015 TO MAY 31, 2016 TIME PERIOD FOR RECALL 16V628000.
THIS VEHICLE, AS OTHER 2016 AND 2017 HYUNDAI TUCSONS, HAS A PROBLEM WITH SMOOTH AND SAFE ACCELERATION FROM A DEAD STOP. THERE IS A SPUTTER, HESITATION THAT HAPPENS EACH TIME, SOMETIMES STRONGER THAN OTHERS. IF YOU WERE MAKING A LEFT TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC, THE SPUTTER IS ENOUGH TO PLACE YOU IN POTENTIAL DANGER. WE HAVE TAKEN THIS TO OUR LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER IN THE 86001 ZIP CODE. WE WERE TOLD THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THE 2016-17 HYUNDAI TUCSON HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT ISSUED ANY RECALLS NOR MADE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BASICALLY THAT THEY ARE SORRY THAT WE DON'T LIKE THE VEHICLE BUT THEY CAN'T SATISFY EVERYONE. I HAVE THOSE EMAILS TO FORWARD TO YOU WHEN NEEDED.
AT STOPS ON CITY STREETS THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ALWAYS ENGAGE AND MOVE FORWARD. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE HAS ROLLED BACKWARDS UP TO 3 FT. BEFORE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED AND MOVES FORWARD. ADDITIONALLY THE CAR ATTEMPTS TO STALL AFTER BACKING OUT AND SHIFTING TO DRIVE.
FROM A STATIONARY START THE VEHICLE RPMS RISE BUT DOES NOT ALWAYS MOVE FORWARD. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE TUCSON HAS ROLLED BACKWARDS UP TO SEVERAL FEET FROM A STOP BEFORE ENGAGING AND MOVING FORWARD. CAN'T RELY ON IT WHEN TURNING LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC. NO ISSUES ON FREEWAYS, ONLY FROM STOPS ON CITY STREETS.
AFTER TURNING VEHICLE OFF, THE GAS TANK MAKES A NOISE SIMILAR TO A PLASTIC WATER BOTTLE EXPANDING/CONTRACTING.
HESITATION UP ACCELERATION FROM STOP AND ROUGH IDLE WHEN COMING TO A STOP.
IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR I RENTED A HYUNDAI TUCSON FROM NATIONAL AT HOBBY AIRPORT IN HOUSTON, TX. IN A MANNER SIMILAR TO THE COMPLAINT I JUST FILED REGARDING AN EARLIER EXPERIENCE WITH A HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT (#10822299) THIS SUV ALSO EXHIBITED SIMILAR BEHAVIORS - A TENDENCY TO HESITATE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, ESPECIALLY (BUT BY NO MEANS EXCLUSIVELY) WHEN A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN WAS TO BE EXECUTED AT THE SAME TIME. SINCE THIS WAS MY SECOND EXPERIENCE WITH A RENTAL HYUNDAI SUV, I THOUGHT IT WISE TO ADVISE YOU OF THIS POSSIBLY ENDEMIC DEFECT IN THAT MAKER'S MODELS. THE PROBLEM WAS SO SEVERE THAT I HAD TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS PLENTY OF ROOM, TRAFFIC-WISE, TO ACCELERATE FROM ZERO WITHOUT POSSIBLY GETTING STRUCK. I AM NOW OUT OF THE MARKET FOR FUTURE HYUNDAI SUV RENTALS.
TRANSMISSION HAS A HARSH DELAYED SHIFT ON ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION.
