There are 16 owner-reported fuel system complaints for the 2017 Hyundai Tucsonin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. There was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer, and the excessive oil consumption was confirmed. The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine), and the engine was replaced. The vehicle was repaired, and a family member retrieved the vehicle and drove it to the residence without failure. Several days later, the family member started the vehicle, and fuel started pouring out from underneath the vehicle. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed back to the dealer and was diagnosed the vehicle with an O-ring failure inside the fuel injectors. The dealer repaired the O-ring, and the contact picked up the vehicle from the dealer. Soon after retrieving the vehicle, fuel started pouring out from under the vehicle at start-up. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer and remained with the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a claim was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
Engine was replaced but car kept sputtering only to find out the fuel injectors needing replacement
6 June 2024 - Sudden severe loss of engine power while driving, presenting potentially serious safety hazard in traffic situations. Check engine light illuminated during incident (not blinking). Driver was able to pull to side of road and shut off car, then after 2 attempts car re-cranked. Driver was able to crank and drive 5 miles home. Check engine code P1233 stored & retrieved by scanner, indicating fuel pump issue -- (potentially a low pressure fuel pump leak similar to Hyundai TSB 23-FL-004H?), which may present fire hazard from leaking fuel. Visual inspection of high pressure pump in engine bay - no noticed problems. Visual / olfactory inspection of area around gas tank - no noticed problems or smell of fuel, no indication of leaking. Briefly cranked engine, no noticeable leaks or sounds. No check engine light (though P1233 stored).
Vehicle stops changing gears, fuel pressure dropped while driving on highway. Vehicle does pickup speed over 40mph. No check engine light warnings. Vehicle can only change gears using manual mode and still does not pick up speed and fuel pressure is not sensed as pedal to the floor doesn’t make the engine move faster but makes the engine sound like a transmission issue is happening.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while his fiance was driving 40 mph, she started to smell fuel fumes inside of the cab of the vehicle and started to get a headache/nauseous. The driver was able to park at a near gas station and waited for the contact to drive to his location, to verify the fuel cap. The contact stated no failure was found and secured the fuel cap. The contact followed the drive to their residence. The driver was able to continue driving at 20 mph but the vehicle began to jerk and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The driver stated she saw black smoke exiting from the rear of the vehicle. The driver was able to park on the side of the road and stated the smoke extinguished on its own. The driver was able to continue driving slowly to their near residence. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V543000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) & NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (ENGINE). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,830.
There is a problem with the transmission which doesn't allow us to accelerate fully. It usually happens when the truck is warmed up and very rarely happens when the truck is cold but the problem is that when you take off from a stoplight it does not accelerate like it should it holds back. You normally press down on the gas pedal to go and it just does not want to go and then it finally Clicks in and the truck goes but then it goes right back to not accelerating. If I had to pass cars I don't have the power to do that or if I'm on the highway switching lanes it struggles to keep up speed and climbing Hills on the highway it does not want to go and at times the RPMs go a lot higher than they should when Switching gears! I did read that the prior years to my Tucson did have a transmission recall but the 2017 does not.
THREE TIMES IN TWO MONTHS I STOP AT RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN TAKE OFF AND MY TUCSON WOULD STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WOULD NOT GO AFTER PADDING THE GAS PEDDLE THREE TO FOUR TIMES THE CAR WOULD GO THEN I AM WORRIED THAT ANOTHER CAR WILL RUN IN TO ME OR HIT ME AND SOME ONE WILL GET HURT IF NOT KILLED
MY HYUNDAI TUCSON HAS ALMOST 30,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO WE BEGAN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH DELAYED ACCELERATION. WE WERE DRIVING NORMALLY THROUGH TOWN AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I PRESSED THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND STILL NOTHING HAPPENED. THE ENGINE DID NOT REV OR ANYTHING, SUDDENLY AFTER 3-5 SECONDS THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD AND BEGAN ACCELERATING. THIS HAPPENED DOZENS OF TIMES.I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS I COULD. AFTER A DAY WITH THE VEHICLE THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK AND DRIVING IT FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE ISSUE RETURNED. I AGAIN TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE MANAGER KEPT THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS AND DROVE IT ABOUT 80 MILES OVER THOSE THREE DAYS AND SAID THE PROBLEM NEVER HAPPENED WHILE HE WAS DRIVING IT. THE FAILURE TO ACCELERATE HAPPENS SPORADICALLY. SOME DAYS IT WILL DRIVE FINE AND OTHER DAYS IT WILL HAVE THE ISSUE THE WHOLE TIME I'M DRIVING IT. WE HAVE ALSO HAD A FEW INSTANCES OF THE VEHICLE SHIFTING INCORRECTLY AND OVER REVVING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ACCELERATION ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS AND ALREADY ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET T-BONED MULTIPLE TIMES. IT'S NOT SAFE FOR MY FAMILY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2017 HYUNDAI TUCSON. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A FUEL ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND, MINUTES LATER, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT SOMEONE WOULD COME OUT AND INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 11,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
MY TRUCK IS UNPREDICTABLE. SOMETIMES THERE IS A BIG DELAY WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE GAS. ALSO, IT EXCELLERATES WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT FOR INSTANCE, TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE, ALL OF A SUDDEN IT LEARCHES FORWARD FAST. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN CARS ARE STOPPED BEHIND YOU AT A LIGHT. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT DOES IT. SOMETIMES ON A COLD START, SOMETIMES NOT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD IT'S BECAUSE IT HAS A DOUBLE CLUTCH. IF THAT'S THE REASON, WHY DIDN'T IT DO IT WHEN I FIRST GOT IT. IT STARTED AROUND 1900 MILES. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE OF SNOW AND SLIPPERY ROADS, NOT SO. IT'S SCARY BUT WHAT'S EVEN SCARIER, I WILL BE PAYING FOR IT FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS SO I CAN'T GET RID OF IT UNLESS I GET KILLED IN IT. IT ONLY HAS 2400 MILES ON IT. TRUCK WAS ALWAYS IN MOTION, SOMETIMES EVEN BACKING UP IN THE MORNING IT'S IN SLOW MOTION WITH A BIG HESITATION.
AT TIMES WHEN I STOP AND ACCELERATE THE CAR HESITATES TO MOVE THEN IT JUMPS AND GOES MAKING IT DANGEROUS .
HYUNDAIS DUAL CLUTCH SYSTEM IN MY TUCSON IS VERY UNSAFE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF ISSUES UNTIL 2.5 MONTHS AFTER OBTAINING THE VEHICLE. FROM A DEAD ATOP AT TIMES IT WILL NOT ACCELERATE AND ONLY RUN UP RPMS. OTHER TIMES IN TRAFFIC IT WILL ALSO NOT ACCELERATE AND RUN UP RPMS. DOING A GOOGLE SEARCH THIS WAS A HUGE ISSUE IN 2016 MODELS BUT NO RECALL WAS EVER DONE FOR THE 2017 MODELS HAPPENS ABOUT 1 TO 3 TIMES PER WEEK. COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY ACCIDENT.
CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE WHEN GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED STANDING AT RED LIGHT. VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED.
CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE FROM STOPPED POSITION AT STOP LIGHTS WHEN GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.
I HAVE AN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS, FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. YOU DATE BELOW INDICATES ONLY 1 TIME. SO WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED AND TRYING TO PULL OUT ONTO A HIGHWAY OR TRYING TO MAKE A TURN ACROSS A LANE OF TRAFFIC, THERE IS NO ACCELERATION, NO GAS, A HESITATION I CAN PUNCH THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT ACTUALLY WILL MOVE THEN THERE'S A LURCH FORWARD. THIS IS A BIG CONCERN, I CAN NOT HAVE ANY TRAFFIC AT ALL ONCOMING IF I NEED TO MAKE A TURN. THIS HAPPENS PULLING ONTO THE INTERSTATE, ALSO FROM A STATIONARY OR ALMOST STATIONARY POSITION. I CAN'T HAVE ANY TRAFFIC COMING THERE'S SUCH A HESITATION. I'M AFRAID THIS WILL RESULT IN A COLLISION. THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME, I'D SAY A 50/50 CHANCE OF IT HAPPENING. I HAVEN'T HAD AN ACCIDENT YET BECAUSE OF IT. VERY CONCERNED, AFRAID TO LET ANYONE DRIVE THE CAR AS I'M AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND AM VERY CAUTIOUS.
MY VEHICLE IS UNPREDICTABLE WHEN SHIFTING OR ACCELERATING. I HAVE HAD IT LOOSE ALL POWER WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. ALSO IT SEEMS TO GO INTO A NEUTRAL STATE SOMETIMES OR DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND RUNS THE RPMS HIGH AND SHIFTS UP AND DOWN BEFORE CATCHING THE RIGHT GEAR. I HAVE ALREADY HAD AND UPDATE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WOULD MOST LIKELY BE MORE AND THAT IT'S LIKE HAVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION THAT GOES INTO NEUTRAL BY ITSELF AND TO JUST BE AWARE THIS COULD HAPPEN. NOT COMFORTING TO ME. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEM WITH ANY ACCELERATION WHEN IN REVERSE BEING SLUGGISH OR NOT MOVING A COUPLE OF TIME.
