I PURCHASED A NEW 2001 CHRYSLER CHEROKEE JEEP. (4.0 LITER IN LINE 6 CYLINDER.) APPROX. 2 YEARS AFTER PURCHASE DATE (50,000 MILES DRIVEN), THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I WAS INFORMED BY A REGISTERED CHRYSLER DEALER THAT THE CAR NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. THE EXPENSE TO PERFORM THE DIAGNOSTIC WORK AND INSTALL REPLACEMENT ENGINE AND RELATED PARTS AMOUNTED TO $4,500. I WAS A DILIGENT CAR OWNER WITH A VERY SMALL INCOME, A SINGLE PARENT WHO HAS TO WORK, AND A 5 YEAR CAR-PAYMENT PLAN -- IN ESSENCE, I CHANGED THE OIL, TOOK THE CAR FOR ANY SERVICE OR REPAIR NEEDED. I GATHER FROM CALLS TO CHRSYLER AND MY JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT I JUST GOT A "BAD" ENGINE AND BECAUSE IT'S OUT OF THE 2-YEAR WARRANTY THERE IS NO COURSE OPEN TO ME TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIRS DONE. OBVIOUSLY, SINCE I STILL HAVE 3 YEARS LEFT ON MY CAR PAYMENTS I COULD NOT JUST WALK AWAY AND LEAVE THE CAR. I NEED HELP. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT I CAN DO. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. DROVE THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR ANALYSIS, AND MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HIT A POLE AND ROLE THREE TIMES. VEHICLE LANDED UPSIDE DOWN ON AN EMBANKMENT. UPON IMPACT, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK AND NECK INJURIES, AND WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO HOSPITAL.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH A DEER. UPON IMPACT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK *NLM
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE HOTEL PARKING LOT AND WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE WENT INTO REVERSE, HITTING THE DRIVER BEFORE STOPPING. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED.*AK
ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK *PH THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS. *JB
DEALER REFUSING TO HONOR RECALL BECAUSE CONSUMER DID NOT BUY VEHICLE FROM THEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
CONSUMER WAS HAVING BRAKE PROBLEMS. ALSO S WHILE DRIVING STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND THEY DID NO WORK. DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE BRAKES GOT TOO HOT AND THAT THEY COULD'N DO ANY THING ABOUT IT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION YET NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. *NLM
THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. *NLM
THE FRONT ROTORS WERE WORN WHICH CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *JB THE FRONT BRAKE ROTOR HAD DISINTEGRATED. THE BRAKE PADS ONLY MADE CONTACT WITH 75 PERCENT OF THE ROTORS. *SCC *JB
FRONT DISC BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPING APPROXIMATELY EVERY 10,000 MILES. THIS CAUSES THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PULSE AND THE STEERING WHEEL TO ROTATE A FEW DEGREES LEFT AND RIGHT DURING BRAKING. JEEP'S WARRANTY SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDES BRAKE ROTORS AFTER 12,000 MILES, LEADING ME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THEY ARE AWARE THAT THERE IS A DESIGN OR MATERIAL PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE ROTORS. ROTORS SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN THE BRAKE PADS. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE 55 MPH THE VEHICLE HAD A HEAVY VIBRATION. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE DRIVE SHAFT YET THE VIBRATION STILL OCCURRED. *NLM
THE ROTORS WERE WARPED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *JB
FRONT END OF VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, CAUSING A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. DRIVER MUST COME TO A NEARLY COMPLETE STOP IN ORDER TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT'S BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO SEVERAL DEALERS, UNDERGOING OVER $1,000 IN REPAIRS, BUT NOTHING HAS SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. BEGAN AT 18,000 MILES AND CONTINUING NOW AT 58,000 MILES. *JB
THE CONSUMER FELT THAT THE REAR SEAT BELTS WERE NOT SAFE TO USE. THE SHOULDER BELT IS MOUNTED SO FAR BACK IS PRACTICALLY WRAPS AROUND YOUR NECK. *NLM PH

THE VEHICLES MALFUNCTION SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND TO STAYED ON. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE I HAD SMALL OBJECTS FALL OFF MY CENTER ARM REST AND HIT MY GEN 3 SEAT BELT LATCH CAUSING IT TO OPEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT JEEP HAS UPGRADED TO THE GEN 4 LATCH. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE? EVERY DAY SEEMS TO BRING A NEW STORY OF ANOTHER FATAL ACCIDENT INVOLVING A DAIMLER CHRYSLER PRODUCT WITH A FAULTY SEAT BELT LATCH. *JB

WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION DECELERATED EVEN WHEN THE DRIVERS FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT ALSO BECAME HARD FOR THE DRIVER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. *NLM
MY HOOD PAINT CRACKED ALL OVER THE HOOD. THIS NOT FROM CHIPS BUT LOOKS LIKE SMALL CRACKS ALL THROUGH THE HOOD PAINT. *TR
THE END OF 2001 WE SAW THE PAINT WAS CRACKING ON OUR 201 JEEP CHEROKEE. WE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WE BROUGHT IT FROM AND THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR THE HOOD AND FRONT OF OUR JEEP. THE REFUSAL WAS MADE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT HAS BEEN REPAINTED ONCE. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW AND HAVE NOT DONE ANY WORK TO IT. WE ARE CURRENTLY PERPARING FOR SMALL CLAIMS COURT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THIS IS OUR FOURTH JEEP AND OUR LAST BECAUSE OF THIS. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF AT OUR DEALER AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAD TO GO THOUGH THIS HASSEL. THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT AT FOREST LAKE CHRYSLER/DODGE/JEEP IN FOREST LAKE, MINNESOTA. THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE A FIVE STAR DEALERSHIP.
AFTER RECALL ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS DONE, THE CONSUMER CAN "STRONGLY" SMELL GAS. DEALER NOTIFIED. PH
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 60MPH THE BOLTS OF THE GEAR BOX OF THE POWER STEERING BROKE AND CONSUMER LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION . TS
WHILE DRIVING, THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT FRONT, SNAP OFF FROM THE SEAT BRACKET MOUNT, WITHOUT CAUSE. THIS RESULTED IN THE SEAT BEING MOBILE. THE DEALERSHIP IS REPLACING THE PART. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE DETAILS. TS *DT
CAR SKIDS, HYDROPLANES AND DOVETAILS IN EVEN SLIGHTLY WET ROAD CONDITIONS. RECENTLY, THE CAR HYDROPLANED INTO A FALLEN TREE ON A HIGHWAY OFF-RAMP, CAUSING EXCESSIVE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE.
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND WILL STAY ON THE REMAINDER OF THE TIME THE VEHICLE IS IN MOVEMENT. DEALER NOTIFIED TS
WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 25-30 MPH, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP SUDDENLY. *YH *DT
THE CONSUMER HAS A UP LIFT SUSPENSION PACKAGE CAUSING THE FRONT END TO BOUNCE BACK AND FORTH. AND THE VEHICLE VIBRATES PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS
PURCHASED JEEP CHEROKEE 4WD 2001 NEW DROVE OFF DEALERSHIP LOT AND NOTICED VIBRATION AND WHEEL SHOOK SLIGHTLY, TECHNICIAN SAID THIS WAS DUE TO THE NEWNESS OF THE TIRES AND THAT I WAS NOT USED TO DRIVING AN SUV AND IT WAS A "SPORTIER AND ROUGHER RIDE". VIBRATIONS INCREASED AS TIME WENT ON. THEN STEERING STARTED TO PULL TO ONE SIDE. I MET WITH A MECHANIC (NOT AT THE DEALERSHIP-WANTED OUTSIDE OPINION). MECHANIC STATED FRONT TIRES NEEDED REPLACED AS THEY WERE BUBBLED ON INSIDE , NEEDED NEW CERAMIX FRONT BRAKE PADS ,NEW MACHINE ROTORS, AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND MY RIGHT REAR RIM IS BENT AND LEFT CAMBER IS OUT AND THEIR ARE NO KITS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME TO REPAIR MY JEEP. I PAID $846.43 AND WHEN I DROVE HOME THE JEEP STILL VIBRATES AND PULLS. I HEAR A NOISE WHEN I AM DRIVING THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE TIRES OR RIMS ARE RUBBING. I DON'T BLAME MY MECHANIC, HE DID A FINE JOB HOWEVER I FEEL THAT I GOT STUCK WITH A LEMON AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE 113 CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE THAT WERE ALL VERY SIMILAR TO MY OWN. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER BY SOMEONE WHO HAS MORE EXPERTISE THAN MYSELF IN THIS AREA. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH SERVICE TECHNICIAN NEXT WEEK TO CHECK MANIFOLD DUE TO ENGINE FIRES RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED-ONE MORE THING TO ADD TO MY LIST OF WORRIES FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILIES SAFETY WHILE DRIVING THIS LEMON. FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS ARE WEARING EXCESSIVELY FROM 26,400 MILES TO PRESENT MILEAGE. REPAIRS MADE AT A REPAIR SHOP. DEALER NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
JEEP PURCHASED 7/19/02. WHEN TRANSMISSION SHIFTS THE SECOND SHIFT, THE SHIFT IS VERY RUFF AND YOU HERE A CLUNK. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ON A CONSISTANT BASIS. JEEP WAS TAKEN INTO THE SHOP ON 7/26/02 A CODE "65" FOR TRANSMISSION AND ACCUSED ME OF DRIVING VEHICLE HARSHLY. WHILE DRIVING DURING THE WEEKEND JEEP CONT TO SHIFT THE SAME WAY. TOOK JEEP BACK IN ON 7/29/02 AND GOT JEEP BACK ON7/30/02 STATING THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THAT EVENING I HAD THE TRANNY SHIFT HARSHLY 2 X. JEEP IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND SINCE I AM A WOMAN I THINK THEY DON'T BELIEVE ME. ANY HELP OR INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *AK

COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. I HAVE HAD A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES SINCE I BROUGHT IT. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED AT 9012 MILES. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FRONT CALIPERS AND ROTORS. THEN AT 18811 MILES DEALERSHIP RESURFACED THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS BECAUSE THEY WERE WARPED. AT 24,806 MILES THE FAILURE RECURRED. DEALERSHIP REPLACED ALL 4 BRAKE ROTORS. CURRENTLY, AT 32,000 MILES THE FAILURE RECURRED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER, DEALERSHIP, AND OTHER JEEP OWNERS INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW THAT OCCURRED IN THE EARLIER AND SOME LATER MODEL JEEPS, BUT HAS BEEN MODIFIED IN 2005 MODEL.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR THREE TIMES WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR ONE WEEK. THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED (COLD) AND GOES OFF WHEN THE VEHICLE IS WARM. *TC
2001 JEEP CHEEROKEE EVAPORATOR FAILURE IN AC SYSTEM. FROM INTERNET RESEARCH THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE. HEARD EVAPORATOR METAL MATERIAL CORRODES (NOT COMPATIBLE) WITH R134 REFRIGERANT. DIDN'T REALIZE THE EXTENT OF ISSUE UNTIL 2009. *TR
AT HIGH SPEEDS STEERING WHEELVIBRATES AND LOSES STEERING CONTROL. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED DURING THE WINTER AND THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY FAILURES AT THE TIME. ONCE THE SUMMER BEGAN, HE NOTICED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT PRODUCING COLD AIR. DURING THAT SAME SUMMER, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THEY FOUND NO FAILURES OR LEAKS, BUT ADDED FLUID TO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. THIS REPAIRED THE FAILURE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SUMMER. THE FOLLOWING YEAR, THE FAILURE RECURRED. A PRIVATE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAILURE AND ADDED LIQUID TO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM AGAIN. THIS REMEDY LASTED TOWARDS THE END OF THE SUMMER; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED THE FOLLOWING YEAR. THE FLUID ADDED TO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM ONLY REMEDIED THE FAILURE FOR NO MORE THAN FOUR WEEKS. THE CONTACT COULD NO LONGER AFFORD TO KEEP GOING BACK TO THE MECHANIC. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SHOP THAT REPAIRS AIR CONDITIONING IN VEHICLES AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE EVAPORATION IN THE AIR CONDITIONING EVAPORATOR. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION AND WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE LEAK FROM THE EVAPORATION IN THE AIR CONDITIONING EVAPORATOR WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THERE SHOULD BE A WAY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
VEHICLE WAS AT DEALER FOR BRAKE SERVICE. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT TIE ROD SLEEVE WAS DISCONNECTING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.*AK
VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING, MORE AT 50 MPH AND HIGHER AND AT LOW SPEED. ROTORS WERE GROUNDED IN JUNE OF 2001, THEN, REPLACED 10 DAYS LATER. THEN, GROUNDED AGAIN IN NOVEMBER 2001. AT THIS TIME THERE IS VIBRATION AGAIN.*AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, VEHICLE VIBRATES/SHAKES SEVERELY. DEALER NOTIFIED AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND DUE TO OVERHEATING. *AK *TT
VEHICLE FRONT END SHAKES WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. ROTORS ARE WARPED AND HAVE BEEN TURNED TWICE BY THE DEALER, ONCE AT 5791 MILES AND AGAIN AT 14207 MILES AND NOW JEEP WANTS TO TURN THEM AGAIN AT 21500 MILES. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO DEAL WITH THE MANUFACTURE MYSELF BECAUSE MY DEALER HAS BEEN TOLD BY JEEP THAT THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE ROTORS, THEY WILL ONLY TURN THEM AT MY COST BECAUSE THIS IS A MAINTENANCE ITEM AND NOT IN WARRANTY EVENTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THIS WAY WHEN IT WAS NEW. ALSO THIS HAS BEEN A MONTH LONG PROCESS BECAUSE I CANNOT GET ANY ANSWERS FROM ANYONE BECAUSE THEY KEEP SAYING THEY ARE SENDING THIS TO THEIR DISTRICT MANAGER WHO WILL RETURN MY CALL BUT I HAVE NOT RECIEVED ANY CALLS SO FAR.*AK
VEHICLE AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKE VIOLENTLY BETWEEN 50-60MPH. ROTORS WARPING WAS A PREEXISTING PROBLEM THAT STARTED AT 9,000 MILES. DEALER CUT ROTORS STATING, THAT CHRYSLER ONLY DOES REPAIRS NOT REPLACMENTS PER CHRYSLER. PLEASE ADD MORE INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE OVERSTEERED TO THE RIGHT, WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, VEHICLE LOST CONTROL AND OVERTURNED, DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK VEHICLE WAS ANALYZED AND WAS FOUND THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS DUE TO AN IMPROPERLY TIGHTENED ADJUSTING COLLAR ON THE DRAG LINK, THIS CAUSED THE EXTRA EFFORT HAVING TO BE APPLIED BY THE OPERATOR TO TURN THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT TO CORRECT THE EXCESSIVE RIGHTWARD MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE, WHEN THE ADJUSTING COLLAR FINALLY MOVED, IT CREATED THE ABRUPT MANEUVER THAT RESULTED IN THE OVERTURNING OF THE VEHICLE. *SLC
