WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED YOU CAN SMELL GAS FUMES, WITHIN MINUTES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. VEHICLE IS TAKEN INTO DEALER. DEALER TESTS IT AND SAYS IT A LEAK. THEY CAN'T FIND IT AND THEY RESET THE LIGHT. WITHIN 2 WEEKS THE SAME THING HAPPEN. THEY REPLACED THE GAS CAP A FEW TIMES AND CHANGED A GASKET ABOVE THE FUEL TANK. THIS MADE NO DIFFERENCE. JUST RECENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALER TWICE IN A MONTH. THE DEALER SUGGESTED TRADING IN THE VEHICLE AND CHANGED THE GAS CAP AGAIN. THE LAST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS IN THEY SUGGESTED A TUNE UP, WHICH IS NORMALLY DONE WITHIN SUGGESTED TIMES ANYWAYS, BUT DID IT AND CHARGED US FOR IT. AGAIN SAME THING HAPPENED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NEAR BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO BE TESTED.RESULTS (LARGE LEAK)..THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING , NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO SOLVE IT.

CONSUMER WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND DISCOVERED THE STEERING COLUMN HAD DISCONNECTED FROM THE WHEEL.*AK. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY ANOTHER DEALER THAT THE STEERING SECTOR SHAFT WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY, THE BOLT WAS NOT TIGHT, WHICH CAUSED THE LOSS OF STEERING, ALSO THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LEVEL WAS VIBRATING AND NOISY.*JB

EXHAUST PIPE STICKS OUT TOO FAR IN THE REAR OF VEHICLE. WHEN RETRIEVING OBJECTS FROM REAR SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE BEEN BURNED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHILE, IT WAS DRIVEN FOR ROUGHTLY 3,000 MILES BEFORE THE PROBLEM HAPPENED. I TOOK IT TO JEEP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THEY SAID THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED. AFTER IT WAS FIXED AND DRIVEN IT WAS FINE UNTIL ABOUT ANOTHER 3000 MILES AND THE PROBLEM OCCURED AGAIN, SO IT TOOK IT TO JEEP TO COMPLAIN AND THEY JUST RESURFACED THE ROTORS AND IGNORED MY COMPLIANTS. AND AGAIN IT IS STILL RECURRING. WHEN YOU GO TO SLOW DOWN AT ANY SPEED THE CAR VIOLENTLY SHAKES B/C OF THE WARPED ROTORS AND IT MAKES IT HARD TO SLOW DOWN, ESPECAILLY AT HIGH SPEEDS. THIS PROBLEM REALLY INCREASES THE STOPPING TIME NECESSARY TO SLOW THE CAR. IF I HAD TO MAKE A QUICK STOP IT WOULD BE VERY HARD. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A MALFUNCTION AND JEEP IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM. I'VE TALKED TO SOME PEOPLE AND THEY SAY IT IS EITHER THE ROTORS THEY GIVE ARE BAD OR THEY WERE MOUNTED AT THE PLANT INCORRECTLY WHICH CAUSE THE ROTORS TO WARP. IT IS NOT MY DRIVING WHICH JEEP LIKES TO BLAME IT ON, AND I'M SURE MANY OTHER PEOPLE GET THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THEM. MR

WHILE DRIVING AT 50MPH ON HIGHWAY AND AFTER A FRONT COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE CONSUMER WAS THROWN OUT OF VEHICLE 60 FEET WHILE WEARING SEAT BELT.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A SLIGHT DOWNHILL GRADE, GEAR SELECTOR IN PARK, WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME LESS THAN 5 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE CAME OUT OF PARK ON ITS OWN AND BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD, CRASHING THROUGH A FENCE, SMALL TREES AND SHRUBS, THEN DOWN AN ENBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGE AND IS PROBABLY A TOTAL LOSS.*AK

WHILE TRAVELING, AND AS A RESULT OF BEING REAR ENDED AND PUSHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK *SLC
REPLACEMENT FAILED 12/05/2001 AT 16,709 MILES. THIS REPLACEMENT APPEARS TO BE FAILING AGAIN. STRONG ODOR AND INTERMITTENT HOWLING FROM REAR END. ODOR WAS ATTRIBUTED BY DEALER ON PREVIOUS FAILURE TO BURNT SYNTHETIC OIL USED IN DIFFERENTIAL. *AK
THERE IS VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. GEARS ARE STUCK WHEN TRYING TO CHANGE GEARS. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT LOCK. CONSUMER FEELS VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL, GAS PEDAL, PASSENGER DOOR, GEAR SHIFT, AND PASSENGER SEAT, CONSUMER HEARS A NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM THE RIMS. AIR CONDITIONER SWITCH NEEDED RESET. HOOD IS OUT OF LINE, DRIVERS SIDE DOOR PANEL NEEDS REPLACING AND THERE IS A GAP AT THE TOP OF THE OUTSIDE. ENGINE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. GLOVE BOX LIGHT WENT OUT. UPPER BALL JOINT WAS REPLACED. *JB
WHILE TRAVELING OVER THE HOWARD-FRANKLIN BRIDGE, (THIS IS A 6 MONTH OLD 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE GRAND LAREDO WITH 13000 MILES) HEADING INTO TAMPA, FLORIDA AT A RATE OF 65 MPH MY DRIVERSIDE REAR TIRE OUTER SIDEWALL FAILED AND INSTANTLY WENT FLAT AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT, NOT TO MENTION, CAUSING THE JEEP TO DROP HARD ON THE ROAD WITH THE RIM, THEREBY DAMAGING MY WHEEL RIM AND RENDERING THE TIRE USELESS. A FLORIDA ROAD RANGER ASSISTED ME AND CHANGED MY TIRE WITH THE SPARE. MY TIRE DID NOT HIT ANY OBJECT NOR DID ANY OBJECT HIT MY TIRE. I CONTACTED GOODYEAR AND SHOWED THEM THE TIRE AT THEIR GOODYEAR TIRE CENTER LOCATED AT 7511 49TH STREET, PINELLAS PARK, FLORIDA 33782..(727) 547-8422. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRE UNTIL I GAVE THEM MY OLD TIRE TO BE SHIPPED, AT MY EXPENSE, TO CORPORATE GOODYEAR'S TEST LABS. A LITTLE LIKE THE FOX WATCHING THE HEN HOUSE IN MY OPINION. I GOT ALOT OF BS FROM GOODYEAR AND EXPLAINATIONS ABOUT THE TIRE FAILURE THAT WITH A LITTLE COMMON SENSE DIDN'T ADD UP. THIS TIRE IS VISUALLY A DEFECT FROM THE LOOKS OF THE TREAD SEPERATION FROM THE SIDEWALL, JUST LIKE I HAVE SEEN ON THE NEWS WITH THE FIRESTONE TIRES. THE LOCAL GOODYEAR DEALER DIDN'T SATISFY ME AND DIDN'T EVEN CARE ABOUT MY NEEDS SO, I CONTACTED GOODYEAR CORPORATE BY PHONE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE SIDEWALL LOOKED ALL SHREDED UP BECAUSE THE TIRE ROLLED ON ITSELF DEFLATED AT THE 65 MPH SPEED AS I COASTED TO AT STOP ( THANK GOD I DIDN'T PANIC AND USE MY BRAKES) ( IN HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A FOUR LANE BRIDGE TRAVELING IN THE THIRD LANE ). IF THEIR THEORY ABOUT SHREDING IS TRUE, WHY DIDN'T THE INTERIOR SIDEWALL GET SHREDED? IT LOOKS LIKE NEW. THEY'RE FULL OF EXCUSES. I WANT ALL OF THESE TIRES OFF MY TRUCK. IF I HAVE MY FAMILY RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE I DON'T FEEL SAFE KNOWING WHAT MIGHT OCCUR. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT MY TIRE. I KNOW SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG WITH THE WAY IT WAS CONSTRUCTED AND CAME APPART. WHILE DRIVING OUTSIDE WALL OF DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE BLEWOUT, CAUSING DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL (DOTM69LDYWR2900). *AK NLM
THIS JEEP HAS HAD PROBLEMS SINCE I FIRST BOUGHT IT. I QUESTIONED THE DEALER ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS AS THEY AROSE. I WAS MADE TO FEEL THAT "ALL THESE THINGS" ARE PERFECTLY NATURAL. THIS JEEP CANNOT EVEN BACK UP MY DRIVEWAY WITHOUT SQUEALING, TIRES AND SMOKING THE TIRES, NO MATTER HOW SLOWLY I TRY TO GO UP IT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE JEEP CHRYSLER TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE BACK. I CANNOT PUT INTO 2000 CHARACTERS ALL THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE AN 11 YEAR OLD CHILD AND THOUGHT I WAS BUYING RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE RELIABLILITY AND THE HANDLING OF THIS VEHICLE. I AM AFRAID TO TAKE IT ON A TRIP FOR FEAR IT WILL QUIT ON ME AGAIN AND STRAND ME IN AN UNSAFE PLACE. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A NEW VEHICLE LIKE THIS BEFORE THAT PUT THE FEAR OF THE DEVIL IN ME LIKE THIS JEEP DOES. I HAD SEVERE FROSTBITE DUE TO THE MECHANICAL FAILURE I HAD TO ENDURE. *AK
REAR DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE AND MIDDLE REAR LAP SEAT BELT BUCKLE WILL NOT STAY LATCHED. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND REPLACED THE PARTS UNDER WARRANTY.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND RUNNING INSIDE OF A PARKING LOT. VEHICLE TOOK OFF WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THERE WASN'T ANYONE INSIDE OF VEHICLE, AND IT STOPPED ON IMPACT WITH A FENCE.*AK
THE SHAKING IS GETTING WORST EVERYTIME I DRIVE THE CAR, IT IS GOING TO THE CAR DEALER IN MY AREA TO HAVE IT FIX, I WANT THIS TO BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY SINCE I HAVE ONLY OWE THE CAR FOR 5 MONTHS.
THE VEHICLE WITH 10529 MILES LOST ALL POWER DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I STARTED THE CAR AND DROVE ABOUT ONE HALF MILE BEFORE IT LOST ALL POWER AGAIN AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THE CAR WAS TOWED. AFTER CONSIDERABLE TIME IN THE DEALER'S SHOP DURING WHICH THE PROBLEMS WERE APPARENTLY DIFFICULT ENOUGH TO WARRANT CONSULTATION WITH THE MANUFACTURER, THE DRIVE OIL PUMP, THE MAIN COMPUTER (MODULE POWERTRA.), CAMSHAFT SENSOR, AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WERE REPLACED. AT 10747 MILES, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THE CAR WAS AGAIN TOWED TO THE GARAGE ALTHOUGH IT HAD BEEN RUNNING FOR ABOUT 3/4 MILE AFTER THE LIGHT CAME ON. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE #4 CYLINDER WAS MISFIRING. THE SYNCHRONIZATION WAS RESET WITHOUT ANY PARTS REPLACEMENT.
I WAS DRIVING AND HEARD A NOISE COME FROM THE FRONT RIGHT. THE JEEP THEN PULLED HARD TO THE LEFT AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED CAR. BY LOOKS, THE SUSPENSION, STEERING, AND DRIVELINE COMPLETELY BROKE OR DETACHED. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM.
THE BRAKES SEEM TO PULSATE WHEN APPLIED. THE STEERING SEEMS TO DRIFT OVER THE YELLOW LINE AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND THE VEHICLES FRONT END NOSE DIVES AFTER BRAKING. THESE TIMES ARE UNPREDICTABLE AND SOMETIMES WEEKS IN BETWEEN.*AK
THE ROTORS ARE WARPED ON MY JEEP AFTER LESS THAN 20,000 MILES. THIS MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A DEFECT THAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF. TOO BAD THEY WON'T ADMIT IT. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE BECOME A RECALL. *NLM

CONSUMER WAS WORKING UNDER HOOD WITH A WRENCH, IT SLIPPED OUT OF HIS HAND, FELL ONTO BATTERY POSITIVE CONNECTOR, AND STARTED A SHORTAGE WHICH RESULTED IN A FIRE. DAMAGES WERE $770. MANUFACTRES HAS NO PLANS OF ADDING RUBBER OVER CONNECTOR THAT WOULD ELIMINATE THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. *AK
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT READ CORRECTLY. WHILE SPEEDOMETER READS 55 MPH, VEHICLE IS ONLY TRAVELING AT 52 MPH. *AK DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT UNLESS THE SPEEDOMETER WAS OFF BY 5 MILES MPH, IT WAS CONSIDERED TO BE OKAY. *SLC

SEVERE VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEED. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND REPLACED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ON THREE OCCASIONS WITHIN EVERY 3,000 MILES. BUT, PROBLEM STILL OCCURRING. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER.*AK

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH AND WITHOUT WARNING, HEADLIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY OUT CAUSING POOR VISIBILITY WHICH RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT, CONSUMER REARENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE CAUSING ONE INJURY, UPON IMPACT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT EXPERIENCE DEPLOYMENT, CONSUMER HAD BEEN TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO TAILLIGHTS INOPERABLE AND HEADLAMPS INOPERABLE PRIOR TO ACCIDENT, DEALER REPLACED FUSES AND FOUND CONNECTOR'S LOOSE. CONSUMER STATES FRONT END PULLED TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING, DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEMS. CONSUMER STATES ON NORMAL BRAKING, PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND DURING ABOVE MENTIONED ACCIDENT BRAKES LOCKED CAUSING A BLOCK OF SKID MARKS, PRIOR TO ACCIDENT WHEN DEALER COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS WITH ABS OR HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM. VEHICLE HAD STALLED ON 2 OCCASIONS AT STOPS, DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM AND 3000 MILES LATER THE STALLING OCCURRED AGAIN, HOWEVER DEALER STILL COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM, POSSIBLE ENGINE PROBLEM. *SLC

OWNER IS CONCERNED ABOUT CONTROLLING THE TRUCK WHEN THIS HAPPENS. *JB ALSO THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT WAS LOOSE WHICH WAS CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO SHAKE, THE TRANSFER CASE WAS LOOSE, THE GASKET AND THERMOSTAT WAS REPLACED DUE TO A COOLANT LEAK, CRUISE CONTROL WAS INOPERATIVE, THE AIR CONDITION AND HEATER ONLY BLOWS AT DEFROST VENTS, THE REAR LUGGAGE RAIL CAME OUT.*JB
