On 6-2-2022, I was driving in Fresno ca with my 2 grandchildren age 1 &5. I was on shaw ave turning onto the freeway 99 when my transmission just left me stranded at the stoplights!! luckily I was not turning or oncoming traffic cars could of hit my car. Car would not move. I was stranded for about 1 hour before AAA tow truck came and pick me up!! Called my jeep dealership in dinuba and told them what happen. Best they could schedule a date to check the jeep was 1-17-2022(note this transmission was replaced about 1 1/2 years ago). The tow truck driver when he from the jeep at my home said when he trun it on the drop it off, it seem to get in gear??The following day I turned it on and tried to move it and it was working but an engine was on just like it turn in fresno when it left me stranded. The codes were PO420, P1DDD and P1CEE. I took the jeep to a local shop in Selma Ca and he plug in to a scanner is where I got the odes read, the last 2 he told me where transmission codes and would need a software flash at the dealership, he couldn't flash it. Pronto city auto was the name of the shop. He was kind enough to do it for free. Will schedule a dealership date, it 6-4-22 date of my report.
Car lost power and warning message on dash said to shift to park at o miles per hour.check engine light was on. When I bought this Jeep it lost power the first or second week of ownership. I took it back to dealer and they said they couldn’t find anything. The car would loose power and the above message would come up. Could happen when driving ar after take off. Problem has not been reproduced. Dealer said wire shorted out and burnt. Check engine light came on it also read message on dash stating to restart at park at zero speed.service transmissions, service park brake also would not dtart. This is about the deventh time this has happened in less then a year
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed there was an abnormal sound coming from the exhaust system. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a faulty cracked pipe in the engine to the exhaust. The contact stated that the motor mount and transmission bracket also needed to be replaced along with the pipe. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the transmission bracket was replaced a year ago. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,171.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rearview camera was inoperable. Additionally, the parking brake failed to deactivate. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 146,750. The contact stated that all of the failures occurred after the computer update recall repair. Each occurrence presented a different code, but they were not saved. The failure of the parking brake caused an accident.
One day while we were driving, shifting became very slow and harsh. A few miles later, vehical slowed down enormously out of nowhere, and service brakes and transmission lights came on. No 4wd, no traction control available etc. Gigantic safety hazard, especially. With no prior indications or warnings.
My vehicle shutsdown repeatdly in the middle of the road without any warning and I was even about to have an accident many times because of the sudden shutdown and now I get it diagnosed because of another SVC 4WD light turning on. It came out to be a power transmission unit/failure which need to be fixed.
Car stalls out after fueling
At a stoplight or red light, the car will sometimes start revving up, like it wants to go, while my foot is on the brake. The check engine light will then come on, and It'll then come up with a notification on the dash saying "Shift to P then desired gear". The photo is also attached. This is very annoying, as it happens while driving too. When it comes up during driving, when you press the gas, it will not go any faster and starts slowing down. This is dangerous and needs fixed. Took it to the garage, and they couldn't figure out what is happening, even with the check engine light!
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the transmission failed to shift to the proper gear. No warning light was illuminated. As a result, the contact was concerned that the failure could potentially cause an accident. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failed, and a software update was performed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that a month later after he started the vehicle and the accelerator pedal was depressed, the RPM fluctuated, and the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000. The consumer stated a PTU was ordered in June 2022 and received the back after repairs in Dec. 2022.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but also occurred while depressing the accelerator pedal after stopping. The vehicle would not move forward for several seconds. The contact stated that the engine would not rev when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power transfer unit (PTU) and rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.
*The PTU unit has tested as faulty, needs replaced to the tune of $3000 and is not included in the PTU recall. *The dealer has confirmed the problem. *Just the dealer. *Yes, svc 4wd light began illuminating on and off about 3 weeks ago.
odometer flashes and never stops flashing
This is a flat tow vehicle that creates a death wobble when being towed behind RV, jeep paid for first fix and has worked for 3 yrs. now death wobble is back.
I was driving when my transmisson slipped into neutral in the middle of an intersection then turned off my car and turned it back on.
It is well known on Jeep Cherokees from 2014 forward use plastic oil filter housings instead of metal. Plastic part in this heated area causes failure and leakage of oil into exhaust manifold. This problem is so prevalent that all Jeep dealers and other repair shops know that Chrysler Jeep Dodge can’t even keep up the demand for the part replacement, AND still they do not make it out of metal. This problem is well known and costs $ 1000 - 1300 to repair. Why is NHTSA not forcing Jeep to recall all the Jeeps with problems and replace the oil filter housing with a metal product !! This is abuse to loyal Jeep owners, with a known problem which all participants are aware of, but no one is holding Jeep accountable !
The 4WD will not work, so any time I need the 4x4 capability it is not available. I read that this problem can also prevent the car from going into park, so it can roll and cause an accident, so now I am afraid to drive it at all . It is not fixed yet.
Vehicle is having issues with the PTU Same issue non trail hawks have been having but have a recall
Unknown. While driving one day the traction light and check engine light came on and then the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport suv started shifting gears funny like on delay mode. Engine tach gauge showed engine was reving higher then normal but the vehicle wasnt moving any faster. Then when taking off from a standstill at a light the suv shifted like it was stuck on first and then jerked when it finally shifted up to next gear. Took it to Oriellys to have them hook up the scan tool and it read TCM - gear jerked while in neutral type of code.
vehicle show error on car screen to service 4wd. local mechanic did computer check and advised the PTO transfer case needs to be replaced. My car only has 73000 miles on odometer.
The vehicle speed accelerates on its own when trying to come to a complete stop which almost caused me to rear end another car at a traffics light, the powertrain is completely off and creates an unsafe riding experience which impacts the steering and control of the vehicle, stalls randomly. There is rough shifting with the transmission, which jerks the car periodically. When driving at a speed above 60 entire vehicle shimmer and shakes uncontrollably, feels like the tires are getting ready to detach from the vehicle when driving at higher speeds and mostly when trying to come to a complete stop.
Vehicle shifter loses contact with the transmission and vehicle will not engage
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was shifted into drive(D), and the parking brake failed to release. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where it was diagnosed that water had entered the lift gate and had caused a short circuit of the parking brake module. The contact was advised by the dealer that the failure was possibly related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V338000 (Electrical System, Structure). The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
When the fuel tank is filled, to the first click off of the pump. The vehicle will stall, sputter, and is hard to accurate. The dealer has all ready replaced the fuel tank, evap line, and a puger valve, but still has the same problems. I have almost getting rear ended when it stalls a couple of times. Still has been going on for 2+ year. Vehicle drives fine after 30ish miles after filling it up.
Leaving to go get Wife's computer today my Jeep ran terrible, kept trying to stall I just filled up at Costco to top off the tank yesterday. In the next subdivision after passing through the back gate the transmission "D" light started blinking. Pressing the gas pedal at 15 miles an hour did nothing. No forward acceleration nor any acceleration at all. Just coasted to pull over where I could safely as the Jeep coasted powerless. Pressing the gas peddle barely raised RPMs like a throttle car would have done. I had to stop the Jeep put it in park and then put it back in "D" drive and it at least my jeep moved forward when pressing the gas peddle. As I continued to drive out through the subdivision towards a main street, the transmission kept clunking and thumping. Felt like the transmission was loose and dangling under the Jeep, but it is still securely bolted to the Jeep. I decided to go back get Wife's car and drop the stupid Jeep off at the dealer again to find out what's wrong with it. At least if it broke down on the side of the road I could run our errands. This constant problem is a major safety concern. If this happens on the interstate it can easily cause a major crash. The dealer can't figure out what is wrong, or so they claim. This happens every couple of months. I don't trust Jeep to keep me safe while driving. This needs to be investigated so owners know the truth.
While driving on a moderately busy highway, felt the automatic transmission engage a gear shift down accompanied by a loud clunking sound and vehicle shudder. Immediately lost throttle control - stepping on the gas pedal didn't rev the engine/effect the vehicle RPMs, increase speed, or allow for any retention of control of the vehicle's speed beyond braking - and was fortunately able to put my hazards on and coast to the side of the road. If traffic had been any busier or I had been changing lanes at an on or off ramp this could have absolutely caused a collision through several common scenarios. "Service Transmission" lamp came on on instrument panel and the display screen in the center of the panel said Transmission failure, but no previous lamps or warning preceded this occurrence. Turned the vehicle off and visually inspected the engine compartment and beneath the vehicle, but neither showed any obvious issues or damage. Tentatively turn the vehicle back on, and while the service transmission lamp remained lit, no warning message displayed on the central display. Put vehicle in drive, and a softer "clunk" sound accompanied the gear engaging, but not as loudly as the initial sound. Was able to return to my residence using back roads with my hazards on, but experienced less power at stops to resume normal speeds. Pressing on the gas pedal returned very little increases in speed and even slight inclines were a challenge to go up. After less than a mile, the service transmission light turned off, but no improvement in power supplied. Attempted to drive the vehicle today (4/5/2022) and experienced the same loud clunk and total loss of power, causing the same accompanying warning message and lamp. No amount of turning off and back on remedied the issue and a neighbor and I were able to manually push the vehicle back to my driveway. The vehicle is scheduled for service 4/13/2022 with my mechanic, but available for inspection until then.
Power Transfer Unit broke free from mounting bracket and transmission. PTU transfers engine power to the all wheel drive system. Dealership inspected vehicle and determined several bolts holding the PTU to the transmission were missing. It appears that the bolts were never installed at the factory. Google search shows many similar cases with 2014 Jeep Cherokee. All 2014 Jeep Cherokees must be recalled and inspected for this factory flaw, and fixed at manufacturer's expense.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate and jerk upon the depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact also stated that the vehicle would shut off without warning, while driving at various speeds. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where they were unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The dealer informed her that the clutch memory code was cleared; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had yet to be notified about the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
* The component or module that operates the emergency parking brake. I'd say the Jeep garage threw out the old one upon the repairs. I do have a pic of the unit that was bad. *The parking brake was locking in while it was parked and could not move it. Then when I did get it moving it was always scary. I do know that it could have locked in at any time and cause me to crash. During some of this time I had been driving my young granddaughters in it before knowing what was happening. We could have all been killed is my opinion. * My own mechanic had my vehicle for 2 weeks trying to find the problem. The parking brake module is down inside the spare wheel cover under the tire and there are air vents in there also. So water was running into the well and corroded the module. The vents have a covering that was also bad thus letting in water. Mechanic confirmed that was the problem. Then Jeep was taken to a local Jeep service center and they also confirmed that the water had corroded the module thus causing it to malfunction. They had my car for about 3 weeks because one they had to let the tire well area get totally dried out then wait for parts. And no messages, no warnings in the car of this. The part that bothers me the most is I have reported it to Jeep and they were no help. I feel I should get some reimbursement. I had to pay in total almost $2000 for these repairs. And this was a car bought off a GM lot was a trade in. They were called also and say to me well we dont know if anything is wrong like that......I get that but no help. I had just bought the vehicle Dec 30th drove for a few months then this happened. A 20k vehicle and 2 months later major repair. Just feel I should get some financial help.....and more importantly I have read others having this exact issue and almost crashed ...should be looked into hard.
The parking brake is stuck on and cannot be disengaged Just happened today trying to go home, car sat for 7 hrs, I did not put the parking brake on No mechanic has seen it yet
Jeep put out a recall for the transmission and the recall was supposedly done the recall states that it would correct the issue of the car putting itself into neutral at any speed and making the driver return to park before he could re-enter a gear and redistribute power to the wheels. The recall should make the car go into a limp mode with limited power yet still producing power so it can exit from the roadway it's not doing that and this doesn't matter if it's 70 miles an hour when this happens it cuts the power to the wheels and your only option is to try to get out of traffic put the car in park and put it back in the gear. the recall by jeep was S 55 says it's been done but this car again is putting itself in the neutral it's been to three different Jeep dealers and finally I took it to an independent mechanic that finally figured out that this was probably the issue Jeep doesn't care I was almost hit by an 18-wheeler going through the mountains 2 weeks ago when the car took itself out of of gear and put itself into neutral as I was doing a pretty nasty switch from downhill to uphill in the Rocky Mountains with a semi coming down right behind me. I lost power on the uphill side on a three-lane highway on the innermost Lane with nowhere to go. I had no power I could not get back across traffic to get off the highway I ended up stopping traffic just put the car back in the park to restart hi feel like this is an incredible safety hazard and it clearly if they did the recall it has failed and it is doing exactly what the recall was to fix again thank you for your time and help
My 2014 jeep Cherokee latitude has stalled on me 3 times. I got very lucky, but could have been seriously injured if people were cautious around me. My vehicle vibrates when it’s in a reverse and shifts hard. When I took it to the dealership they acted like they had no idea about what I was talking about.
Took our Jeep into dealership - Tom O’Brien Jeep in Greenwood, IN because check engine light was on. Was told it the codes were low voltage & the battery needed to be replaced which we did. Within 15 minutes of picking up the car, the check engine light was on again along with. 4WD message. Took it back to same dealership. Now we’re told PTU was going out & to get rid of the car. There is no recall on my VIN but was told there is an issue with the Cherokees & the PTU’s going bad. I’m reporting this issue so in can be included in your data.

Engine stalls without warning. One occurrence stalled while in reverse, steering wheel jerked 3 times. After every stall has had the warning "Four wheel drive temporarily unavailable". Also had one that flashed "ECU Off" this has occurred mostly at low speeds. Happened twice today making it the sixth and seventh occasion.
After filling my jeep with gas this will cause the jeep to stalls then shuts off and all kinds of warnings and code appear. It will radom shut off and is extremely dangerous. Dealership could not diagnose . This is happening regularly. Goggle says many others have experienced this problem as well
OME Oil Filter Housing is made of plastic and it cracked, causing the Jeep to leak oil. This is a common issue with the 3.2L and 3.6L jeep motors. So common that the original part has been discontinued and replaced with one made of metal. That fact that Jeep has discontinued the original part and replaced it with a better one should be grounds for a recall and be covered my Jeep. Instead I have to pay $200 for the part and because of the labor required to replace the part, my total bill is almost $1000.
I was going 65-70mph on the high way. I received a notification to service the transmission. I immediately started to lose power and my speed began to decrease. I was unable to increase the speed with hitting the accelerator. As the speed was decreasing without my control I was able to make it to the shoulder, luckily. This was very dangerous as I was on a busy highway. If I did not make it to the should this could have been very dangerous for me and the other motorist on the highway. This happened twice. I took the car to the dealership and they replaced my PTO unit. This was a very expensive part. I have my invoice to send if needed.
As I pulled up to a stop light the transmission light blinked and the car started to stall. Sputtered for a second then went away. About 3 min after as I was pulling in front of vehicles when I turned the car stalled and died in traffic. Car wouldn’t restart for almost 30 sec but in traffics felt like a lifetime. Finally started and was able to pull off road but as I sat there car just would seem like the transmission was catching and stall out.
Heavy water leaks in the back trunk area, unable to relase parking brake, ACC/FCW unavailable, powerd lift gate doest work some times. Sucked out at least 2 galons of water form the spare tire area, find serious corrosion in the electircal connector of the Electronic Parking Break Module located in the back truck area.
Recall was issued stating transmission would shift into neutral while driving. Recall was performed and vehicle is still shifting into neutral just like before the recall was performed. (Recall V69 Reprogram TCM 18V69182)
randomly unable to retract electrical parking break, displays "servics parking break" . safety risk :if stopped on redlight and the parking break engaged , it won't release, unable to move the Vehicle .
I received a warning to service my park brake. At that time it immediately started setting my park brake and I was unable to release it. After much fooling around with it I got it to release and took it to the dealership. They said the park brake module was wet and corroded and suggested I left my windows down. Well I never open my windows. They said the part was not available and probably wouldn’t be for months. The blew out and cleaned the module. I had no problems for a year and a half (I also never set my park brake for fear it wouldn’t release) but it started setting itself again so I called the dealership and was again told they didn’t have the part and couldn’t tell me when they would. I have also had so many other issues with this vehicle. One being a transmission issue that happened before a recall for it so I fixed the problem and paid for it. When the recall came out I was only reimbursed for half of what I paid. I’m literally afraid to drive my car for fear of something goring horribly wrong while driving it.
Lift gate will not latch(close)
Started getting noise from behind engine when in drove. Took to mechanic. Diagnosed as bad PTU. No error messages or warning lights. Car has about 168k miles.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was stopped at a STOP sign, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle hesitated and jerked forward. The contact heard a noticeable grinding noise. The contact reported that the vehicle engine's hesitation, grinding, and jerking into motion became longer and very noticeable. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed. The contact stated that while the mechanic was performing a test drive, the vehicle stalled and could not be moved. The mechanic reported that the power transfer unit had failed. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The independent mechanic notified the contact of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train). The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 113,145.
Everytime i put m y car in reverese, back up, stop, and then put my car in Drive mode, the car will just stall out, The whole car turns off, Occasionaly, the car will not even shift and will be stuck in Reverse. When that happens, i am unable to turn the car and obisouly i am not able to restart the car. I then have to initatite the emergency brake, then wait sometimes up to an hour. Then try to shift the care to park to restart the car. Then once i restart the car it appears the car works just fine until next time i reverse.
Parking brake randomly engaged, while parked and will drive. I was driving in parking lot so no injury. Had towed for service. Found water in harness and parking brake module.
2014 jeep ptu I was driving turned left heard grinding towed to the dealer and they told me the ptu and transaxle spline wore out there’s a recall for this but apparently my jeep doesn’t meet that requirement even though it’s a 2014 jeep w47 is the number they refused to fix
