The contact stated that the power steering and brakes lost proper functionality. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to coast off the roadway. The contact made numerous attempts to restart the vehicle and failed. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the high-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
THE FUEL SAVING SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING IT DOES NOT SHUT DOWN WHEN I M AT A STOP
VEHICLE WAS STOPPED WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND MOTOR DIED WOULD NOT RESTART. MOTOR WOULD CRANK BUT WOULD NOT RESTART. SINCE VEHICLE WAS IN A HIGH TRAFFIC AREA, PUT IN NEUTRAL AND FOLKS HELPED PUSH IT TO A SAFE AREA. CALLED TOW TRUCK. TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID IT ACTED LIKE A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM, SO HE CHECKED THE FUSE FOR FUEL PUMP,IT WAS BLOWN, SO HE REPLACED. VEHICLE STARTED AND RAN FOR A MINUTE OR SO THEN MOTOR DIED. HE CHECKED FUSE AND IT HAD BLOWN AGAIN, SAID FUEL PUMP WAS BAD. TOWED TO LOCAL SHOP. AFTER INSPECTION BY SHOP, WAS TOLD THAT THEY "FOUND FUEL PUMP SHORTING OUT INTERNALLY CAUSING FUSE TO BLOW, NECESSARY TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP AND FUSE." FIXED AND TEST DROVE CORRECTED PROBLEM. PER SERVICE INVOICE A MODULE KIT, FUEL PUMP/LEVEL UNIT PART NUMBER 68231311AB WAS REPLACED. SINCE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 45990 MILES ON IT, SERVICE MANAGER SAID TO FILE WITH NHTSA SINCE THE JEEP CORP. HAS HAD MANY FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. HE HAS BEEN SEEING A RASH OF THIS SAME ISSUE LATELY. SAID COULD BE A RECALL FOR A SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN A VEHICLE JUST DIES WITH NO WARNING. *TR
WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO YIELD OR A ROLL THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES DELAYED SHIFTING RESULTING IN NO ACCELERATION FOR 2-3 SECONDS FOLLOWED BY A VERY HARD SHIFT RESULTING IN WHEEL SPIN WHICH CAN LEAVE THE VEHICLE IMMOBILE IN THE ROAD FOR ANOTHER 3 SECONDS. ACCORDING TO JEEP SERVICE AND CORPORATE THIS IS "NORMAL" AND DON'T INTEND TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.
FUEL LEVEL SENCOR CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE IS NOT CORRECT. FUEL LEVEL DOES NOT GO DOWN UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS AT 1/3 OF GAS.
REFERENCE THE COMPLAINT LISTED BELOW ( NHTSA ID 11270672 ) ON OCTOBER 24, 2019. I HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE/PROBLEM CONCERNING THE GAS/FUEL CAP SENSOR SINCE NOVEMBER 2016. MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS OF HAVING IT FIXED AT LOCAL CHRYSLER JEEP DEALERSHIP WITH ZERO SUCCESS. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE FROM THE REFERENCED COMPLAINT BELOW IS THAT I HAVE NOT HAD A VAPOR TEST NOR HAVE I REPLACED MY GAS CAP BECAUSE I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT; VERBATIM : 'THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT CAN NOT BE FIXED.' IN ADDITION; THE FUEL/GAS CAP ISSUE IS ONLY ONE OF SEVERAL ISSUES THAT I'VE ENCOUNTERED ALL WITH THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERSHIP ' 'IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT WE CAN'T FIX IT'. VEHICLE STALLED DURING REGULAR OPERATION, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND STALLED. POWER STEERING WAS LOST.
I WAS DRIVING TO THE FREEWAY ABOUT 60 - 70 MPH AND THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO SPEED UP, THE GAS PEDAL EVEN THOUGH PUSHED PRETTY HARD DID NOT WANT TO RESPOND THEREFORE I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 10 FREEWAY. AFTER TURNING OF THE CAR, AND TURNING OF THE ECO MODE (CAR TURNING OFF AT INTERSECTIONS OR IN TRAFFIC JAMS) AND CONTINUED DRIVING. HOWEVER, DURING THE ECO MODE OFF, THE STALLS HEAVILY DURING GEAR SWITCH, MOST NOTABLY IN THE BEGINNING ONES FOR SPEEDS UP TO 35 MPH. I MADE IT SAFELY HOME. TODAY, MAY 23RD, THE CAR DIED ON ME TWICE DURING INTERSECTIONS WHEN STOPPED AND ECO MODE TURNED ON. EVENTUALLY I HAD TO RETURN HOME AND NOT CONTINUE DRIVING IT. THE CAR HAS BARELY 1800 MILES AND I DO NOT USE IT FOR OFF-ROADING, JUST FOR REGULAR COMMUTE. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT CAN I DO YET THE FREEWAY INCIDENT REALLY MADE ME AFFRAID OF DRIVING IT AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND IN GENERAL TRAFFIC.
WHILE IN MOTION; WHEN REMOVING FOOT FROM ACCELLERATOR TO COAST OR BRAKE, BUT BEFORE APPLYING BRAKE, VEHICLE BOLTS FORWARD AND ACCELERATES. THIS COULD BE A HAZZARD IN ICE OR SNOW OR CLOSE TRAFFIC. NEW JEEP CHEROKEE 2015 VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED EVENING JAN 2, 2015 FROM. PERRY CHRYSLER/JEEP, NATIONAL CITY, CA. DRIVEN TOTAL LESS THAN 100 MILES. ON JAN 4 DRIVER NOTICED OILY SMELL WHEN DRIVING. IMMEDIATELY AFTER BEING PARKED AT HOME WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT OF HOOD. WITHIN SECONDS THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FIRE, FLAMES 20 FEET HIGH. BURNING OIL OR FUEL RAN DOWN THE STREET OVER 50 YARDS.
