SERVICE SHIFTER. The Shift Bezel keeps going out. I reading that is happening to a lot of other people only had this car 2 months. The gear shifter Bezel lights up all red and service shifter shows up on the dashboard.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that upon starting and driving the vehicle, the 4WD and engine warning lights were illuminated. While driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and shut off. There was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the vehicle while turning. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer several times, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact reached out to Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Scottsdale (3800 N 89th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85251); but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the check engine warning light illuminated was due to an issue with the PTU. The manufacturer was contacted and offered a possible rental. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
When breaking or turning on multiple occasions the vehicle shifts into neutral and turns off. It then stalls until it is switched on again.
Went to start my car and it didn't start. There was no cranking at all. Took it to the mechanic after jumping car. Mechanic called back few hours later. Said electrical is draing the power. Lucky I didn't loose my alternator. There was no one hurt and no sign of this happening before hand. Only the mechanic i took it too has checked it
At traffic stop light, vehicle transmission disengaged and acted as though in a neutral or park position even though shift position was in drive. Warning lights indicated "Service Shifter". Placed shifter into park and turned off engine. Restarted and placed shifter into drive. Appeared to drive normally to destination. Next engine start, warning indicator of Service Shifter returned with no apparent drive issues. Next engine start, warning indicator did NOT appear.
SERVICE SHIFTER APPEARS ON DASH BOARD. CAR KEEPS STALLING AND TELLS ME TO TO PUT IN SHIFT GEAR. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART MY CAR

Vehicle has 42,000 miles on it passenger side front exhaust pipe has broken at the flex joint. Vehicle is strictly road driven and garaged when not in use. Part# 68110128AC
MY 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE DISPLAYS "SERVICE SHIFTER". I'VE SEEN MULTIPLE ONLINE REVIEWS/COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE, YET THIS $900 TO REPAIR ISSUE HAS NOT BECOME A RECALL. WHAT RECOURSE DO WE ALL HAVE AND WHY WON'T JEEP FIX THIS ONGOING PROBLEM? THE MESSAGE HAS BEEN GOING ON/OFF INTERMITTENTLY SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2019, HOWEVER, AT THAT TIME, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID IT PROBABLY WASN'T CRITICAL TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. NOW, THEY'RE SAYING THE SHIFTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
THE "SERVICE SHIFTER" COMES ON AT RANDOM TIMES. THE VEHICLE MUST BE RESTARTED TO CLEAR THE CODE.

SERVICE SHIFTER CONTINUES TO POP UP
JEEP WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING. ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF, LOSE POWER STEERING, CANNOT ACCELERATE TO TRY TO GET OUT OF HARMS WAY, BATTERY, OIL AND ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND RECEIVE A MESSAGE SAYING TO "SHIFT TO PARK OR NEUTRAL TO START THE VEHICLE". IF YOU WANT A COUPLE MINUTES THE JEEP STRUGGLE TO TURNOVER BUT EVENTUALLY WILL. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY!!!! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE!!! IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME 6 TIMES IN THE PAST 3 WEEKS. IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING ON ANY STREET OR HIGHWAY, TURNING OR BRAKING.
THE CAR IS CONSTANTLY STALLING WHILE DRIVING AND THEN SHUTTING OFF IMMEDIATELY. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I AM ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR SIDE STREETS. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED TWO DAYS IN A ROW. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS! LITERALLY HAVE TO SIT STRANDED IN A PLACE UNTIL THE CAR STARTS BACK UP. YESTERDAY APR 2, 2021, IT STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF 57TH AND COTTAGE GROVE IN CHICAGO AND TODAY APT 3, 2021, IT STALL ON INTERSTATE 80 AT THE CALUMET EXIT HEADING WEST, WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR... REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE. NEW OIL CHANGE AND STILL STALLS AND SHUTS OFF. IT'S HAPPENING ONCE A WEEK AND THE DEALERSHIP ACTS LIKE THEY HAVE NO IDEA. TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN APPOINTMENT ON 4/13!

THIS IS PROBLEMATIC SINCE IT WILL HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AND THE POWERTRAIN WILL SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL CAUSING THE DRIVER TO HAVE TO PULL OVER WHILE IN TRAFFIC. I TALKED TO THE JEEP DEALER WHO SAID THIS IS OUT OF THE BUMPER TO BUMPER 3 YEAR/36K WARRANTY AND NOT COVERED BY THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON AND THE GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS ARE ALL RED,P,R,N,D, THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND GOES NUETRAL. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. Hello, In March I received a performed recall W84 for my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. A recall W84 the PCM and TCM modules. Since then I have had on the cluster a warning light which came on stating 'Service Shifter'. When this happened, all the lights on the shifter turned red. This happened when driving. This was a intermittent issue that was becoming more consistent. I went to McKevitt for reparation. It costed me $735! $360 for diagnosis, $120 for parts and $235 for labor!
SERVICE SHIFTER RANDOMLY COMES ON AND CAUSES SCREEN TO LOCK AND LIGHTS UP THE SHIFTER. THIS HAPPENS WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE.
THE JEEP HAS 42K MILES. RECENTLY THE CAR SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING JUST QUIT WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IN 3 WEEKS THIS HAPPENED. 5K MILES AGO I GOT AN SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE GOOD FOR 10K MILES. AT APPROX. 5K MILES WAS WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO DIE. I CONTACTED DEALER IN ELIZABETHTOWN KY AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. HE APPARENTLY WAS AWARE THAT FOR EVERY 1K MILES, A QUART OF OIL WAS USED. THIS WAS NEVER TOLD TO ME AND YET KNOWING THIS, THE DEALER TOLD ME I HAD TO HAVE THE 10K MILE OIL KNOWING I WOULD NEVER REACH THAT. HE SAID THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF RECALL ON A SENSOR THAT UNTIL THEY COULD SCHEDULE ME IN, I NEEDED TO POUR OIL INTO THE ENGINE WHICH I DID. MY LIFE WAS PLACED IN DIRE JEOPARDY. AND I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF THIS OBSCENE USAGE OF OIL BY THIS MODEL. IF THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD CRACKED DUE TO THIS-THAN WHAT?
WHEN ACCELERATING IT FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE IS NOT SENDING ENOUGH POWER AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS ON A HIGHER GEAR AND ALSO THUDS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING.
WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 395 TRAVELING NORTH FROM SPOKANE, WA, WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 60 MPH, AFTER CRESTING A LOW HILL AND DESCENDING THE HILL MY CAR'S ENGINE BEGAN RACING THE RPM WENT TO 4500 RPM AND I COULDN'T GET IT TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP BY BRAKING OR CHANGING THE CRUISE CONTROL. MY CAR GOT TO 80 MPH WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE CRUISE CONTROL TO DISENGAGE BY PRESSING CANCEL AGAIN WHILE BRAKING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. IT'S VERY SCARY. I'M AFRAID TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL IN MY CAR.

DOESN'T SEEM TO BE TURNING RIGHT. A LOT OF CLICKING MAKING NOISE WHEN I BACK UP. AND TURN WHEEL.
The Service Shifter warning comes on the dash and all of the LED's on the shifter turn red. It used to only happen when the vehicle was turned on. We would shut off the car and restart it and it would go away. Lately, it's been getting progressively worse. We have to turn off the car and restart it multiple times, sometimes running it through the gears to get the warning to go off. But, now it's turning on while driving. We haven't been to the dealership yet, but there are numerous complaints about SERVICE SHIFTER on the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. I hope they don't wait too long to issue a recall.

Service shifter light comes on and off randomly while driving. Won't allow my vehicle to restart after shutting off without getting a jump to start it. Had the shifter replaced on 3/31/22 at 64,000 miles and now again it's happening at 89,000 miles on 9/29/2023.
MY BACK GATE/ TRUCK WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE AT ALL I PRESS THE BUTTON ON MY KEYS AND THE BUTTON ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GATE/TRUNK AND NOTHING THE ONLY WAS I CAN OPEN IT, IS IF WE CLAIM ON THE BACK AND MANUELING OPEN IT , WE TRIED EVERYTHING AND IT DOESN'T OPEN.
I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION STOPPED YESTERDAY AND MY 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED LOST ALL POWER STEERING, AND BRAKES. DASHBOARD FLASHED 'CAR MUST BE IN NEUTRAL OR PARK TO SHIFT GEARS' AND WOULDN'T GO FORWARD, STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS UNTIL I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. TURNED OFF THE CAR TO TRY TO RESET IT AND TOOK A LONG TIME TO TURN OVER. WENT OUT WITH IT AGAIN THIS MORNING AND SAME THING BUT GOING ABOUT 20MPH. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE AS I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR!!!!
I JUST PURCHASED MY CAR JANUARY 4, 2021. I HAVE HAD IT CUT OFF ON ME 4 TIMES. LIKE SHUT COMPLETELY OFF AND IT TAKES LIKE 10 TO 15 MINUTES TO ACTUALLY START BACK UP. THE SHIFT GEARS MESSAGE POPS UP, IT CUT THE TRACTION CONTROL AUTOMATICALLY OFF SO THAT LIGHT POPS UP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT POPS UP. I DONT KNOW WHATS HAPPENING BUT IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCDIDENT TWICE ON 695 HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT SHUT OFF. THANK GOD THE KIDS WERE NOT WITH ME AT THE TIME. I AM READING THAT HIS HAPPENS TO ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH JEEPS. WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT BEFORE PURCHASING. I JUST WANT A SAFE AND RELIABLE SUV FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN.

FACTORY INSTALLED TOW PACKAGE SIGNALS WHERE NOT ACTIVATED. HAD TO BRING TO DEALER AFTER TRYING TO SAFELY USE A TRAILER. DEALER HAD TO CONTACT JEEP STAR/BCM. TO ACTIVATE THE SYSTEM. DEFECT HAS PRESENT FROM DAY ONE, DID NOT HAD A REASON TO USE THE SYSTEM UNTIL NOW. DEALER ALSO DID NOT DETECT IN THE PRE-CUSTOMER RELEASE OF THE VEHICLE.
SO I GOT MY CAR IN APRIL 7, 2020. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP FOR THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS. TO MY ENGINE STALLING OUT TO MY CAR NOT. SHIFT THAT RIGHT WAY. A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN JANUARY 2021. MY ELECTRIC STUFF IN THE CAR GOES IN AND OUT ALL THE TIME. SO IT M MESS UP THE COMPUTERS THIS CAR HAS NOW HAD 4 NEW COMPUTERS PUT IN THE CAR AND I'M STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. AND IT DOES THIS ANYWHERE ON HIGHWAY CITY STREET.
BURNS THOUGH OIL LIKE A CHEAP ALCOHOLIC. USUALLY 1 QUART IS BURNED OFF EVERY 1000 MILES. THIS WAS SOMETHING I WAS NOT AWARE OF WHEN I PURCHASED THE JEEP. WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED, INITIALLY I WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE SHIFTER. SO THAT WAS A $500 REPAIR. LATER I FOUND OUT THAT 2017 JEEP CHEROKEES HAVE A UNIQUE ABILITY TO DRINK OIL. IF FCA IS AWARE, AND NOT FIXING THE ISSUE, THATS BULL CRAP. I HAVE AN OLDER CAR WITH A SIMILAR ENGINE AND CAN PUT 10,000 MILES BETWEEN OIL CHANGES W/O AN ISSUE.
THE SERVICE SHIFTER WORDS POP UP ON MY SCREEN. THE LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT (PRND) LIGHT UP RED. THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON WHY THEY POP ON, THEY JUST RANDOMLY POP ON.
OIL FILTER HOUSING/COOLER LEAKS AND POOLS OIL ON TOP OF ENGINE. PART NUMBER 68105583AF. OIL DRAINS DOWN EITHER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. IT IS A PLASTIC PART THAT CAN EASILY FAIL DUE TO DEALER OVER LIGHTNING THE OIL FILTER WHEN PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE. LEAK STARTS IMMEDIATELY THIS CAR HAS 22,300 MILES ON IT AND IS A 2017.
WHEN DRIVING AND MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN, AN ERROR MESSAGE POPS UP ON THE SCREEN STATING CAN NOT SWITCH GEARS WHILE IN DRIVE, THEN THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME 6+ TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH, IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A LEFT TURN IN A BUSY INTERSECTION 3 TIMES AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. ONCE CAR IS SHUT OFF AND YOU GIVE IT A MINUTE, WHEN YOU RESTART IT TAKES TIME TO TURN OVER. THIS IS SO UNSAFE AND I AM AFRAID EVERY TIME I DRIVE AS I DRIVE MY DAUGHTER IN THIS VEHICLE AND THINK THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR SURE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC THEY TEST DROVE AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE TWICE, THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND NOTHING CAME UP, WHEN THEY RESEARCHED IT THEY FOUND THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE AND SAID I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY READ THAT IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE OIL BEING USED TO QUICKLY AND WHEN THE TURN OCCURS IT SUCKS IN AIR. PLEASE HELP!!!
PERIODICALLY WHILE DRIVING, A "SERVICE SHIFTER" NOTIFICATION WILL TURN ON AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER INDICATING GEARS WILL LIGHT UP. IF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, THIS NOTIFICATION WILL DISAPPEAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 6+ TIMES RANDOMLY OVER THE PAST YEAR THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCE THE SAME FALSE NOTIFICATION. THE UNRELIABILITY OF THIS NOTIFICATION IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.

SERVICE SHIFTER POPS UP WHEN I'M DRIVING 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. EXTREMELY UNSAFE!
WATER WAS FOUND PUDDLING THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR BOARD AND DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER FLOORBOARD. THERE WAS FOUND THAT THE FACTORY DID NOT SEAL A SEEM BETWEEN THE WHEEL WELL AND THE FIREWALL CAUSING THE LEAK. EVIDENTLY THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLRM ACCORDING TO JEEP FORUMS. THE STANDING WATER IS VERY HARD TO GET OUT AND IS CAUSING FOWL SMELL. ALL OF THIS OCCURS AFTER I HAD TAKEN MY VEHICLE THROUGH ITS FIRST AUTOMATIC CAR WASH.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD, THE 'SERVICE SHIFTER' MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER BEZEL ALL GLOWED RED. I STOPPED THE CAR, SHIFT IT OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON AND ALL SEEMED NORMAL AGAIN. WHILE THE SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE WAS SHOWING, ALL OTHER INFORMATION IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS HIDDEN WHICH FELT UNSAFE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, I FOUND THAT THIS IS ISSUE IS AFFECTING MANY AS THEY ARE REPORTING THE SAME OCCURRENCE I EXPERIENCED AND I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF JEEP TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. *CC *TR
JEEP SAYS 'SERVICE SHIFTER' AND SHOWS UP ON THE DASH AND ALL THE LIGHTS TURN RED ON THE SHIFTER ITSELF. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN MY JEEP. THE FREQUENCY HAS GOTTEN WORSE. I HAD TO RESTART MY JEEP IN THE MIDDLE OF A ROAD TO GET THE LIGHTS TO GO AWAY, AND WITHIN MINUTES NOW IT IS BACK ON. IT HAS GONE AWAY IN THE PAST BUT FOR AN UNKNOWN TIME (SOMETIMES A DAY SOMETIMES WEEKS.) IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE SHIFTING, DRIVING, AND WHILE PARKED. THE LIGHT IS NOT ONLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SEE ANYTHING ELSE ON THE DASH BUT ALSO CONCERNING SINCE IT IS A KNOWN SHIFTER ISSUE.
VEHICLE HAD DISPLAYED "SERVICE SHIFTER" NOTICE ON DASH TWICE AND IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS NO FIX. WORRIED THAT GEAR SHIFT MIGHT MALFUNCTION WHILE IN THE ROAD. ALSO, TRANSMISSION JERKS WHEN TAKING FOOT OFF OF ACCELERATOR. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO 3 DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE SAID NOTHING IS WRONG, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM PERSISTS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER ELK GROVE DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (8575 LAGUNA GROVE DR, ELK GROVE, CA 95757, (916) 525-8393) AND MADE THE DEALER AWARE OF THE FAILURE.
