SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON AND ALL SELECTIONS LIGHT UP. THIS HAPPENED S WHILE DRIVING AND THEN CAN'T BE RESET UNTIL CAR IS SHUT OFF. THE CODE BLOCKS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON MY 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE. I WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW SHIFTER CABLE AND MODULE.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON AND ALL SHIFT GEARS (PARK, NEUTRAL, REVERSE,DRIVE ) LIGHT UP IN RED AFTER DRIVING ON MOUNTAIN ROAD. PULLED TO SIDE AND TURNED CAR OFF. RESET LIGHT BUT CAME ON AGAIN 20 MIN LATER . APPARENTLY KNOWN ISSUE WITH JEEPS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE GEARS LIGHT UP. THE CONTACT VEERED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON WHICH FAILED TO RESUME BACK TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE THEN WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT THE PART REPAIRED WAS UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS TAKEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,600.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT KEEPS GOING ON
THIS IS ABOUT THE SHIFTER. WE BEGAN GETTING WARNING MESSAGE ABOUT "SHIFTER ERROR". SHORTLY AFTER THAT MY WIFE TOLD ME SHE HAD PROBLEMS "MAKING THE CAR TURN OFF" IN OUR DRIVEWAY. I GOT IN AND COULD NOT PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I FIDDLED WITH IT UNTIL I FINALLY GOT IT INTO PARK AND TRIED TO TURN THE JEEP OFF BUT EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL THINGS (RADIO, DASHBOARD LIGHTS, BEEPING, INTERIOR LIGHTS ETC..) WERE STILL GOING. I COULD NOT RESTART THE JEEP WITHOUT A JUMPER CABLE. WHEN I RESTARTED THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WENT BACK TO "NORMAL". I TRIED TO TURN THE JEEP OFF AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I WENT THROUGH THE SAME PROCESS AGAIN, GOT THE JEEP STARTED AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. FIRST THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS JUST A BAD BATTERY. WHEN I COMPLAINED ABOUT ALL OF THE NEWS ABOUT SHIFTER PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY AND THE "SHIFT BEZEL AND HARNESS" NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I AM 4 WEEKS OUT OF MY 3 YEAR WARRANTY SO I PAID $857.02 FOR THIS WORK. THE SERVICE MAN PUT A NOTE ON BILL THAT SAYS "IF LIGHT COMES BACK ON WE NEED TO "REPLACE SHIFTER ALSO - $890.00" I BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE IS A SAFETY DEFECT NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND THAT THE 2017 JEEP SHOULD BE RECALLED. MY WIFE IS NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE HER JEEP. ALSO, THE "SHIFTER ERROR" MESSAGE JUST CAME BACK ON ONE DAY AFTER GETTING THE JEEP BACK. THE SERVICE MAN TOLD ME THAT SOMETIMES THE JEEP DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT WHEN THE JEEP IS IN PARK. PLEASE HELP. SOME IS GOING TO GET HURT. TRY GOOGLING "JEEP SHIFTER" AND YOU'LL SEE HOW MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT PROBLEM ARE OUT THERE.
SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING APPEARS AND ALL RED LIGHTS APPEAR ON THE SHIFTER. TODAY WHILE DRIVING THE MESSAGE POPPED UP AND MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. I WAS TRYING TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN WHEN THIS HAPPENED. *TR
THE LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT ALL CAME ON (P, R, N, D) AND ON MY DASHBOARD INSTRUMENT PANEL IT SAID "SERVICE SHIFTER". I SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND RESTARTED, WHICH CORRECTED THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY. HOWEVER IT HAS NOW HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK. IT HAPPENED TWICE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND ONCE WHEN IT WAS MOVING ON A CITY STREET.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND IT POPPED UP SERVICE SHIFTER. I HAVEN'T HAD THE VEHICLE VERY LONG I'M UP TO 90,000 MILES. I TURNED THE JEEP OFF AND IT WENT AWAY L. A WEEK LATER IT SHOWED UP AGAIN AND IT'S GOES OFF. IT SHIFTS FUNNY. I WAS ON A CITY STREET WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. THE SERVICE SHIFT LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE LIGHT DISAPPEARED. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH UPSTATE AUTO SERVICE & BODY WORKS (469 BROADWAY, SARANAC LAKE, NY 12983 518-891-1211). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PIN TENSION IN THE SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE RESET AND SECURELY ATTACHED TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,900.
WHILE FLAT TOWING MY JEEP BEHIND MY MOTOR HOME FROM ANTIOCH,TO CRESCENT CITY CA ON JULY 1, 2020, I WAS THIRTY FIVE MILES FROM ANTIOCH, WHEN MY JEEP STARTED SWAYING SEVERELY LEFT AND RIGHT AND BOUNCING.I THOUGHT THAT I HAD TWO BLOWOUTS ON THE RIGHT REAR OF THE MOTOR HOME. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO TWO MILES PER HOUR UNTIL I COULD PULL OFF THE HIWAY. I HAD TO DIS-CONNECT MY JEEP FROM THE MOTOR HOME AND PUT IT IN DRIVE MODE. WHEN I DID THIS MY LIGHT ON THE DASH SAID CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I CALLED THE JEEP DEALERSHIP IN PETALUMA AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN T THEY SAID THE BRAIN IN THE COMPUTER WENT DEAD AND THEY HAD TO RE PROGRAM IT. I THEN HAD MY WIFE DRIVE THE JEEP AND FOLLOW ME BEHIND THE MOTOR HOME 315 MILES TO CRESCENT CITY CA. IT TOOK A COUPLE OF DAYS AND I DROVE 21 MILES INTO BROOKINGS OR I TOLD THE JEEP DEALER ABOUT THE SEVER SWAYING AND BOUNCING AND THE SERVICE TECH GAVE ME A COPY OF A STAR ONLINE PUBLIATION CASE #S1823000010. THE RELEASE DATE OF 03-09-2018. VEHICLE ISSUE EXPLAINS ABOUT MY JEEP. IT EXPLAINS THAT I NEED A KL-FLAT TOW KIT P/N68321424AA TSB08-022-16. THIS KIT ALLOWS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING TO ACTIVE AND SEPARATE FROM OTHER SYSTEMS DURING FLAT TOW. THIS KIT COSTS $132.00 PLUS LABOR OF $390.00. I BOUGHT MY JEEP IN FEBRUARY 2017. THE STAR ONLINE PUBLICATION IS DATED ONE YEAR AND ONE MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT MY JEEP. THERE NEVER WAS A RECALL ON MY JEEP AND I AM WONDERING WHY. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THEY HAVE REFUSED TO PAY TO INSTALL THE KIT. I PLAN ON LEAVING 10-01-2020 MY WIFE WILL HAVE TO DRIVE THE JEEP 375 MILES BEHIND MY MOTOR HOME. SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE APPEARS AND ALL GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS TURN RED, SO NO IDEA WHAT GEAR I'M IN. MUST SHUT DOWN ENGINE AND RESTART, WHICH FIXES THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY. SOMETIMES REQUIRES MULTIPLE RESTART ATTEMPTS BEFORE LIGHTS GO OFF.
VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON 06/27/2020. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A ROAD FLIPPED 6-8 TIMES AND IMPACTED 3 TREES. NO AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED.*DT*JB
GETTING A SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE AND THE LIGHTS NEXT TO MY GEAR SHIFT ALL TURN RED. I CHECKED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A JEEP CHEROKEE ONLY ISSUE AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR EITHER GOT THEIR CAR BACK WITHOUT THE ISSUE BEING RESOLVED OR THE DEALER DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO RESOLVE IT OR THE CAR CAME BACK IN WORSE CONDITION THAN BEFORE. THIS IS CLEARLY A JEEP CHEROKEE MANUFACTURING FAULT THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED WITH A RECALL. *TR

I?VE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND WOULD REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION FOR A RECALL SINCE THIS SEEM TO BE A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION AND IT ALSO SEEMS THAT JEEP IS BOTH CARING THAT MUCH ABOUT IT. THE CAR HAS A SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT ON AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER ARE LIT RED FOR EXAMPLE THE PARKING, REVERSE, DRIVE, NEUTRAL. THE CAR STARTED DRIVING REALLY ROUGH AND NOW THERE IS A RATTLING NOISE. BOUGHT THE CAR AROUND 1 MONTH AGO AND IT IS ALREADY GIVING PROBLEMS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 19,000 MILES AND WHEN I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM I SEE SEVERAL PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THEN THE DEALER FIXED THE PROBLEM CHARGING SOME PEOPLE BUT THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AS WELL AS CAUSING LEAKS OR OTHER PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING AT HOME THEN WHEN TURNED ON THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THEN TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS WENT OFF A COUPLE TIMES BY RESTARTING THE ENGINE BUT NOW IT ALWAYS STAYS ON AS WELL AS CAUSES A RATTLING NOISE AS WELL AS VERY ROUGH DRIVING.

THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND WHEN YOU TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER THEY CHARGE $180 TO DIAGNOSE AND THEN SAY THAT IT IS NOT THE ENGINE SO IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR BUT DON'T HAVE $180 EVERY TIME THIS LIGHT COMES ON AND I'M NOT KNOWING WHAT GEAR I'M IN BECAUSE ALL OF THEM ARE HIGHLIGHTED. JEEP CHEROKEE 2017 LAST MONTH AT ABOUT 28,000 I WAS DRIVING ON THE THRU WAY WHEN THE SHIFTER LIGHTS ALL LIT UP RED AND THE DASH SAID SERVICE SHIFTER. I PULL OVER, SWITCHED CAR ON AND OFF AND IT WAS FIXED. ONE MONTH LATER, MY CAR WAS SITTING IN PARK - I MOVED FROM MY PARKING SPOT TO A NEW ONE- PLACED JEEP IN PARK AND THEN NOTICED ALL OF THE LIGHTS RED ON THE SHIFTER AND THE DASH SAYING 'SERVICE SHIFTER'
SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE COMES UP IN THE MESSAGE CENTER ON THE DASH, AND PRND LIGHTS UP RED WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. PULLING OVER AND TURNING THE ENGINE OFF SOMETIMES MAKES THE MESSAGE GO AWAY, OTHER TIMES IT PERSISTS. PROBLEM STARTED AT AROUND 11,000 MILES. HAPPENS RANDOMLY, AND DEALERS CANNOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. *TR
JEEP STALLS EVERY A COUPLE OF WEEKS. DETERMINED THAT THE JEEP BURNS OIL AND WITH NO INDICATION THE CAR WILL JUST STALL WITH NO WARNING AT ALL. WHEN IT STALLS I DETERMINED THAT THE OIL LEVEL IS EXTREMELY LOW. THIS HAPPENS WITH LESS THAN 4000 MILES. I SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT THIS. VERY SCARING WHEN IT JUST STALLS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING. NO WAY SHOULD A VEHICLE BURN THAT MUCH OIL WITH ONLY DRIVING 5000 MILES OR LESS. *TR
JEEP CHEROKEE IS GETTING A "SERVICE SHIFTER" ERROR. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER LIGHT UP AT ONE TIME. ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO TURN THE JEEP OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN MOVING AND STATIONARY. HAPPENING ABOUT EVERY TWO WEEKS. *TR

THE SERVICE SHIFTER HAS COME ON MULTIPLE TIMES LATELY AND IT REQUIRES ME TO SHUT THE CAR DOWN COMPLETELY. ONCE RESTARTED THE CAR RUNS PERFECTLY UNTIL ABOUT ANOTHER 300 MILES OR SO AND THE SERVICE LIGHT COMES BACK ON. RECENTLY MY CAR WILL SHOW SERVICE SHIFTER THEN IT JUST SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I'VE BEEN SEEING MORE AND MORE PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL AND IT SHOULD DEFINITELY BE SOMETHING THEY INVESTIGATE AND RECALL IT'S EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO JUST BE DRIVING AND YOUR CAR DECIDES TO SHUT OFF. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP HAS JUST SHUT OFF ON ME ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASION LEAVING ME TO JUST COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THEN WHEN I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND TRY TO RESTART THE CAR IT JUST KEPT TURNING OVER AND TOOK A WHILE TO START BACK UP. *TR
SHIFTER SERVICE WARNING LIGHT HAS CAME ON AT 48,000 MILES AND GOES OFF WHEN I RESTART MY VEHICLE BUT HAS CAME BACK ON REPEATEDLY AFTERWARDS. IT ONLY HAPPENS AFTER I'M DRIVING FOR ABOUT 10 MINS AND WHEN I PUT MY JEEP IN PARK AND THE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND ALL OF THE SHIFTER LIGHTS TURN RED.
I WAS DRIVING OUR 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING WIFE AND 2 CHILDREN (5 PLUS INFANT). WE WERE TRAVELING ~20 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR SHUT DOWN. THE CAR WAS STILL MOVING AS WE WERE TRAVELING DOWNHILL, AND WAS IN THE DRIVE GEAR. WE WERE UNABLE TO STOP AS THERE WAS NO WAY TO PULL OFF IMMEDIATELY. THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING FIRST, THEN THE BRAKE STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. I HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND JAM MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE SITUATION WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ONCE THE CAR STOPPED, WE TURNED IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN. AFTER POWER CYCLING THE CAR, IT RETURNED TO OPERATING AS EXPECTED. *TR
I STARTED THE JEEP IN THE PARKING LOT AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER LIT UP AND A MESSAGE SAID SERVICE SHIFTER. *TR
FOR OVER A MONTH NOW I'VE RECEIVED"SERVICE SHIFTER" MESSAGE. CAR SHAKES BADLY AND LOSES POWER AS IF ITS GOING TO SHUT OFF. THREE DIFFERENT TIMES IT DID SHUT OFF AND STRUGGLED TO RE-CRANK! SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE GOES AWAY AFTER TURNING THE JEEP OFF & BACK ON. VERY UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (OR ANYWHERE)!!! PURCHASED BRAND NEW AND IS UP TO DATE ON OIL CHANGES, ETC. JEEP ALSO BURNS MORE OIL THAN IT SHOULD. *TR
AT 35000 MILES I GOT A DASH LIGHT SAYING SERVICE SHIFTER. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT 37000 MILES. THIS TIME I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT DID NOT CLEAR THE MESSAGE. *TR
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE. I UNDERSTAND IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE NEWER JEEP CHEROKEES. IT WAS SUGGESTED I FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT SO WE CAN GET A RECALL. PRETTY MUCH EVERY CHEROKEE HAS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE 50000 MILES. *TR
CAR REVS UP LIKE IT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH, LOSS OF POWER, NO ACCELERATION. I WAS ON HIGHWAY AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE SHOULDER SAFELY. SEVERAL ERROR MESSAGES POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN, PLACE INTO PARK AND RESTART, ETC.. DID NOT CATCH THEM ALL. PUT INTO PARK, SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. REGAINED POWER BUT THE CAR STUTTERS AND SHAKES AT ABOUT 25 MPH, SEEMS LIKE IT IS MISSING OUT WHILE IDLING. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES THE PAST MONTH. AT FIRST TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTART WOULD RUN FINE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. UNTIL YESTERDAY, NOW IT IS STUTTERING WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL STREETS. THE SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE IS ON. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES WHILE DRIVING BUT DOES NOT STAY ON ONCE PUT INTO PARK. *TR
I have a photo of this sticker. Inside on the car's body frame of the driver's side of my 2017 JEEP, there is a sticker that says: THIS VEHICLE MAY INCLUDE MERCURY -- added devices installed by the manufacturer: Video display (which I have to touch to operate the radio and phone call free feature) Navigation/Camera Display (which I have to touch to operate the radio and phone call free feature) HDI Headlamps (which I touch when I wash my car) Remove devices before vehicle's disposal. Upon removal of devices, please reuse, recycle or dispose as hazardous waste. When I travel (on a straight road like Interstate 5 in Washington and Oregon) for more than 3 hours, I get nauseous, dizzy, and do not feel well for hours afterwards. This has been an on-going scenario. I had asked my mechanic to check the AC system, clean all of the vents, and replace the filters and it still did not fix my reaction to driving in the car or being just a passenger. This is unacceptable! Please recall and rectify this hazardous situation immediately among all owners of a 2017 JEEP. Why it is always in the hands of the consumer to make things right? Why can't corporations just do the right thing for its customers and the earth? This blatant irresponsibility and corporate greed is getting so old. AFTER TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER PARKWAY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LOCATED AT 311 COMMERCIAL PKWY, DOVER, OH 44622, AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER CABLE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES NOW STARTING IN JAN 21, 2020. STOPPED AT STOP SIGN AND SHUT OFF. TRIED TO RESTART AND WOULD NOT. WAITED ABOUT 3 MINUTES AND IT STARTED. AS I SLOWED DOWN FOR ANOTHER STOP SIGN IT SHUT OFF BUT RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. AS I SLOWED DOWN FOR ANOTHER STOP SIGN I TURNED RIGHT WITH OUT STOPPING AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. ALL THE IDIOT LIGHTS ON DASH CAME ON. BATTERY WAS FULLY FUNCTIONAL. CAR WOULD NOT START FOR 45 MINUTES AND THEN IT FINALLY STARTED.CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEIR ANSWER WAS 'IF WE CAN'T DUPLICATE IT THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO. IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN BRING IT IN'. WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSE TOO MEAN? IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON 5-13-20, 5-15-20 AND 5-31-20. ALL THESE TIMES IT WAS WHEN WE ARE DRIVING ALONG AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN. ENGINE JUST SHUTS OFF. ON 5-31-20 I WAS IN A TRAFFIC LANE MAKING A RIGHT TURN WITH OTHER TRAFFIC BEHIND WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE DRIVER BEHIND ME WAS BEEPING HIS HORN FOR ME TO MOVE AS HE HAD NOT KNOWN MY ENGINE SHUT OFF. WOULD HATE TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN IF I WAS ON AN INTERSTATE. A MESSAGE APPEARS STATING TO 'SERVICE SHIFTER SOON' AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER LIGHT UP. THE MESSAGE IS RESET AFTER A RESTART. IT COMES BACK AT RANDOM INTERVALS: WHEN FIRST STARTING, DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, ETC. IT HAS COME ABOUT 30 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF 1 YEAR. *TR
THE VEHICLE CONSUMES ALL OF THE OIL (BONE DRY) BEFORE THE VEHICLE REACHES 3000 MILES AND BEFORE THE NEXT SCHEDULED SERVICE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS OF A LEAK. THE VEHICLE STALLS OUT AND TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD WITH NO WARNING (NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANY OTHER WARNING). THIS TIME IT HAPPENED ON 05/26/2020 ON A HIGHWAY WITH A 60MPH SPEED LIMIT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. THIS PROBLEM IS FOUND ALL THROUGH OUT INTERNET FORUMS FOR THE 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE AND JEEP HAS FAILED TO PUT OUT A RECALL. ON A RECURRING BASIS, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP WITH A "SERVICE SHIFTER NOW" MESSAGE AND ALL LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT ARE ILLUMINATED. AFTER A RESTART, THE LIGHTS GO AWAY AND THE CAR RESUMES NORMAL FUNCTIONALITY. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST 6-8 MONTHS.
MY 2017 JEEP LATITUDE HAS 43K. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, 60 MPH, ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON NEXT TO THE SHIFTER AND "SERVICE SHIFTER" MESSAGE CAME ON. WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS? I HAVE BEEN READING THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN. WHEN I SHUT CAR OFF AND TURNED ON AGAIN, IT DID NOT COME BACK ON. BUT, FROM WHAT I READ, DEALERS ARE SAYING IT JUST NEEDS TO BE "RESET." CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS LOW OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, WE HAVE THE OIL CHANGED REGULARLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AND DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED MILEAGE BETWEEN CHANGES. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON MAIN ROADS DURING TIMES OF HIGH TRAFFIC AND HAS PUT MY FAMILY IN DANGER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THIS STARTED HAPPENING WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES NOW. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 36,000 MILES ON IT AND I'M TIRED OF DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE.
MY DAUGHTER WHO IS 18 WAS GOING TO VISIT HER DAD. SHE CAME TO A STOP LIGHT AT A COMPLETE STOP WHEN AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. SHE WAS GOING TO PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE TO CALL ME. WHEN SHE PRESS THE GAS THE CAR WENT IN REVERSE ALMOST HITTING THE CAR BEHIND HER. SERVICE SHIFTER CONTINUES TO DISPLAY EVERY SO OFTEN. NO ERROR CODE PRESENT IN SYSTEM. WHEN IT IS DISPLAYED ALL LIGHTS ON SHIFTER TURN ORANGE. ONCE CAR IS STOPPED AND TURNED OFF IT GOES AWAY BUT RETURNS AFTER AWHILE.
THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT WAS COMING ON. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT WERE LIT UP. AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE KEPT APPLYING ON ITS OWN. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF TIME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT COST ME ALMOST $400 TO REPLACE THE BEZEL AND WIRING HARNESS. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A SIDE ROAD, GOING ABOUT 20MPH WHEN IT WAS LIKE MY JEEP SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. IT COMPLETELY STALLED. THE BATTERY LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD AND A MESSAGE POPPED UP THAT SAID VEHICLE MUST BE IN GEAR, ALTERNATING WITH A SHIFT TO PARK OR NEUTRAL, PRESS BRAKE TO SELECT GEAR MESSAGE. I WAS ABLE TO SWING IT INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I PUT IT IN PARK BUT THE ERROR WOULDN'T GO AWAY AND WHEN I SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE AND HIT THE GAS PEDAL, IT WOULDN'T MOVE. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT, IT WOULDN'T START. I SAT THERE FOR 15 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD START BACK UP. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS AND DRIVE THE APPROX 2 MILES HOME. *TR
