"SERVICE SHIFTER" MESSAGE APPEARED ON DRIVER DISPLAY WHILE RED LIGHTS NEXT TO SHIFTER PRND ALL LIGHT UP. OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. CLEARS ITSELF WHEN CAR IS RESTARTED, BUT MAY OCCUR SOON AGAIN. HAS OCCURRED 10-20 TIMES OVER PAST 3 MONTHS.
"SERVICE SHIFTER" ERROR CAME ON SCREEN AND ALL OF THE GEAR LIGHTS BESIDE THE SHIFTER LIT UP. AFTER TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND DRIVING AGAIN LATER, ERROR DISAPPEARED.
I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW IN MAY OF 2017 AFTER 48,000 MILES THE "SERVICE SHIFTER" LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT INTO MY SERVICE DEPT AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER. I WAS TOLD FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL REPLACING THE SHIFTER WAS NOT A BIG DEAL. AFTER 56,000 MILES I CAME IN WITH A TRANSMISSION ISSUE. I WAS 600 MILES FROM AN OIL CHANGE AND MY CAR WAS ACTING LIKE IT NEEDED THE OIL CHANGED AND I TOOK IT IN TO MY SERVICE DEPT AND THEY DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST ON IT AND ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ENGINE. NOW I AM AT 62817 MILES AND THE "SERVICE SHIFTER" LIGHT IS BACK ON. BOTH TIMES THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON MY VEHICLE WAS AT REST BUT CONTINUED AS I WAS DRIVING. WHEN THEY REPLACED MY ENGINE THE VEHICLE WOULD SPUTTER AND JERK AS I WAS DRIVING AND STALLED OUT BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND AN UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. ORANGE COAST CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (2929 HARBOR BLVD, COSTA MESA, CA 92626, (714) 549-8023) DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE ENGINE AND OIL, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
CAR WILL NOT START,HAS TO BE TOWED FOR SERVICE. FOURTH TIME FOR SAME PROBLEM. THEY INSTALLED NEW BATTERY BUT AFTER APPROX 30 DAYS IT HAPPENS AGAIN. DIED ONE MORNING BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY INTO STREET WOULD NOT START. TOWED TO DEALER. HAPPENED AGAIN FRIDAY MORNING AT DEALER NOW.
CAR HAS 22,000 MILES ON IT. WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR MADE A BEEP NOISE AND A MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN SAYING "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND IF YOU LOOK DOWN AT THE SHIFT, ALL OF THE GEARS ARE LIT UP RED INDICATING THAT ALL OF THE SHIFTS ARE ON. HOWEVER I HAVE NOTICED IT TYPICALLY ONLY COMES ON WHENEVER I HAVE MY AIR CONDITIONING ON. I HAVE HAD IT DO THIS AROUND 17 TIMES STARTING WHEN THE CAR HIT 20,000 MILES. IT DOES NOT AFFECT DRIVING ABILITIES.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT HAS COME ON TWICE NOW AND WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 5/17/19. IT IS A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE TRAILHAWK WITH ABOUT 42,000 MILES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS EVERYTHING LOCKS UP. ALL THE LIGHTS BY THE SHIFTER WHERE PARK, REVERSE, ETC ARE THOSE LIGHT S LIGHT UP IN RED. YOU CAN NOT SEE THE SPEEDOMETER SO YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING. THIS HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING OF COURSE, NOT SAFE AT ALL!! THIS HAPPENED LITERALLY DAYS AFTER PURCHASE.
2017 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH ONLY 37000 MILES THE INTIRE FRONT END FELL OUT WHILE DRIVING CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WHEEL, INTIRE HUB ASSEMBLY, AXLE, AND STRUT. WHILE THANKFULLY TRAVELING LOW SPEEDS IN THE CITY
SERVICE SHIFTER
SERVICE SHIFTER INDICATOR CAME ON WITH ALL LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR LIGHTING IN RED. AFTER SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF, THINGS RETURNED TO NORMAL BUT WILL PROBABLY OCCUR AGAIN BASED ON OTHER INTERNET COMMENTS ABOUT THIS JEEP PROBLEM WITH THEIR WIRING HARNESS.
WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AT 50,000 MILES THE SERVICE SHIFTER CAME ON, WE GOT IT FIXED NO PROBLEM. NOW I AM AT 56,000 MILES AND THE SERVICE SHIFTER HAS NOW COME BACK ON. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS TO THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH JEEP CHEROKEES AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. PLEASE RECALL JEEP CHEROKEES.
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE INVOLVED IN A 4 CAR PILE UP ON THE 3 LANE HIGHWAY. TRAFFIC ABRUPTLY STOPPED SEVERAL CARS IN FRONT OF US ON THE HIGHWAY AND CARS WERE SWERVING TO MISS THE TRAFFIC STOPPED. THE 2 CARS IN FRONT OF US AND OUR CAR WERE ALL ABLE TO GET STOPPED WITHOUT HITTING EACH OTHER. WE WERE STATIONARY (STOPPED) WHEN WE HEARD SQUEALING TIRES AND WERE REAR ENDED BY A F250 HAULING A TRAILER FULL OF FIREWOOD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THIS TRUCK THEN PUSHED US FORWARD INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US. WHICH THEN PUSHED THAT CAR INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF IT. SO, OUR VEHICLE WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AND THEN IN THE FRONT. THERE IS SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, AND IT HAS BEEN DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE. MY CONCERN IS THAT NOT ONE AIRBAG DEPLOYED DURING THIS ACCIDENT. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK PROPERLY. IT WAS PULLED ALMOST ALL THE WAY OUT AND THEN LOCKED. MY HUSBAND IS NOT A BIG GUY SO IT SHOULD OF LOCKED RATHER QUICKLY AND NOT AT THE END OF THE BELT. AS A RESULT, OF THE MALFUNCTIONING EQUIPMENT MY HUSBAND FLEW FORWARD HITTING HIS FACE AND CHEST ON THE STEERING WHEEL. HE DID SUSTAIN INJURIES TO HIS FACE AND BODY FROM THE ACCIDENT. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THAT THE AIRBAG AND SEAT BELT ISSUED BE LOOKED AT. IT DOES APPEAR THAT SOME OTHER JEEP MODELS OF THE SAME YEAR HAVE SOME RECALLS FOR AIR BAG ISSUES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO AND THE BATTERY HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JEFF WYLER CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF FT THOMAS (859-441-7800, LOCATED AT 100 ALEXANDRIA PIKE, FORT THOMAS, KY 41075) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 64737215. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000.
I WAS IN MOTION ON MY WAY TO TAKING MY CHILD TO SCHOOL UPON A BRIDGE RAMP CAME TO STOP SIGN ONCE I BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD AFTER THE STOP I FELT A JOLT IN THE ENGINE AS IT SHIFTED INTO GEAR THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON I CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO GET TO SAFETY AND THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT WENT OFF . I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A GLITCH SO I DROVE MY SON TO SCHOOL AND ON RETURNING BACK HOME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE VEHICLE STARTED JERKING VIOLENTLY AND I HAD TO HAVE IT SERVICED . DUTCH MILLER IN CHARLESTON WV SAID IT WAS SENSOR NUMBER THREE AND THAT IT WAS REPLACED. NOT EVEN TWO WEEKS LATER HAD THE SAME ISSUE HAD IT REPAIRED AND JUST THREE DAYS AGO I HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED AGAIN! TODAY JUST 3 DAYS AFTER REPAIR THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME BACK ON . EACH TIME THE SAME THINGS HAPPEN, THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON, WHEN IT GOES OFF THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, THE RADIO STARTS SWITCHING FROM MY FM STATION TO AN AM STATION FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND THE VEHICLE STARTS JERKING VIOLENTLY WHILE DRIVING FORCING ME TO GO SLOWER THAN SPEED LIMITS ON AN INTERSTATE AND EVEN HAVING TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND MY FEAR IS THAT IT IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR CATCH ON FIRE BECAUSE I FEEL THAT IT IS A BAD ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE AND THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM WILL NOT ASSESS THE ISSUE CORRECTLY. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO THE MAKERS OF JEEP AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE. TODAY I AM SITTING AT WORK WONDERING IF I WILL EVEN MAKE IT HOME IN THE VEHICLE THAT I AM PAYING FOR THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE RELIABLE AND ITS NOT!!!
GEAR SHIFT LIGHT IS COMING ON FOR SHIFTER!
WHEN YOU CRANK THE CAR ALL THE RED LIGHTS COME ON AND IT BEEPS THEN STATES SERVICE SHIFTER.
TAKATA RECALL. THE SERVICE SHIFT CHANGER LIGHTS CAME ON AND AS WELL AS THE AUTOMATIC START LIGHT CAME KN STATING IT NEEDS SERVICE. I JUST BOUGHT CAR TWO YEARS AGO. THIS IS RIDICULOUS NOW I HAVE TO PAY 430 FOR SOMETHING THAT STOPPED WORKING ON ITS OWN ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH JEEP.
CAR MILAGE AT 31K. CAR SERVED FOR 30K MAINTENANCE ONE WEEK BEFORE ON 5/3 AND JEEP INFORMED OF ISSUE (ALONG WITH OTHERS). SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING LIGHT COMES ON THE DASH AFTER THE SHIFTER ILLUMINATES ALL RED LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT, THIS HAPPENS ALWAYS WHILE IN MOTION DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES AND RESOLVES ITSELF WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED. LAST INCIDENT ON 5-11-19 BOTH ON HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 70 AND WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL ROAD GOING AROUND 30 MPH. ADDITIONAL CONCERNS ABOUT TRANSMISSION BECAUSE AT TIMES JERKING FEELING WHEN ACCELERATING OR SLOWING DOWN WHILE DRIVING.
DRIVING DOWN CURVY ROAD, AROUND 50 MPH, INDICATOR LIGHT ON DASH SAID "SERVICE SHIFTER" WHILE ALL THE LIGHTS TO THE LEFT OF THE SHIFTER LIT UP. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED CAR OFF. AFTER SITTING A FEW MINUTES I STARTED IT UP AND IT SEEMED FINE. IT HAPPENED ONE MORE TIME WHILE FINISHING THE DRIVE HOME. THERE WAS NO KNOWN CAUSE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. I'VE HAD THE CAR LESS THAN 2 YEARS, 37,000 MILES ON IT.
MY ENGINE GUZZLES OIL AND SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING! THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED!

THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT
IN AUG 2018 I GOT A SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING AND ALL THE LIGHTS AT THE SHIFTER LIT UP. THE SHIFTER BEZEL AND HARNESS REPLACEMENT REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEN IN MAY 2019 I GOT THE SAME WARNING, AND WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE I SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OVER 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS STUTTERING, AND ACTING LIKE IT WOULD SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A NEARBY JEEP DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THEY FIRST STATED THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE ALL THE SPARK PLUGS AND RECOMMENDED A FUEL INDUCTION CLEANING SERVICE, BOTH OF WHICH I WOULD NEED TO PAY AS THEY WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED ME TO ADVISE THE REPAIRS THEY HAD ATTEMPTED HAD NOT REPAIRED VEHICLE. THEY THEN PERFORMED A COIL PACK REPLACEMENT AND THIS WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THEY ALSO REPLACED THE SHIFTER BEZEL AND THE HARNESS REPLACEMENT, ALSO UNDER WARRANTY. THEY DID NOT HAVE A RENTAL VEHICLE AVAILABLE, SO I HAD TO PAY FOR THIS OUT-OF-POCKET. THE RENTAL AND THE REPAIRS ENDED UP COSTING APPROXIMATELY $650 OUT OF POCKET. $150 WILL BE REFUNDED AFTER 60 BUSINESS DAYS ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER. ALTHOUGH THE SPARK PLUGS AND THE FUEL INJECTION CLEANING DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND ARE NOT NECESSARY MAINTENANCE AT 50,000 MILES, BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER WARRANTY SERVICE STATED THOSE WERE MAINTENANCE REPAIRS AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I HAD PURCHASED. I MOST LIKELY WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER JEEP IN THE FUTURE AS I FEEL THE ORIGINAL RECOMMENDED REPAIRS WERE A RIP OFF. ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS A VEHICLE MALFUNCTION, I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND THE MALFUNCTION COULD'VE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS AS IT EASILY COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT!
WHILE DRIVING SERVICE SHIFTER CAME ON FREEZING DISPLAY WHILE ALL LIGHTS IN SHIFTER TURNED RED. PULLED OFF TURN OFF VEHICLE TO REST.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON 5-7-19 I HEARD A DING & A THE MESSAGE SERVICE SHIFTER CAME UP ON MY DASH & THE RED LIGHTS NEXT TO THE GEAR SHIFT ALL LIT UP. I WAS MOVING AT THE TIME & WHEN I REACHED A STOP LIGHT I PUT VEHICLE IN PARK THEN BACK TO DRIVE BUT NOTHING CHANGED. TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY SAID THEY'D ONLY HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING TO A FEW VEHICLES BUT I HAVE JUST FOUND TONS OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. ORDERING PARTS FOR IT BUT I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT & WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE A COUPLE OF DAYS TO GET THE PARTS FOLLOWED BY THEM CALLING ME TO SET UP A TIME TO BRING IT IN FOR REPAIR. THIS IS A 2017 WITH A LITTLE OVER 27K MILES. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE DOING THIS YET OR EVER.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CONSTANTLY COMES ON. TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG OTHER THAN CAN BE REPLACED. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE VEHICLES AND SHOULD BE A RECALL.
AT 38,000 MILES ON OUR NEW JEEP, THE SPARK PLUGS ARE GROUNDING OUT FOR SOME UNEXPLAINED REASON AND BURNING A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE COIL PACKS BOOT. CAUSING THE PLUG AND COIL PACKS TO BURN UP. I'M BEING TOLD IT'S A MANUFACTURES PART DEFECT THAT JEEP HASN'T RECOGNIZED YET. IT'S HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES AND JEEP WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALMOST COST MY WIFE AND KIDS THEIR LIFE, DUE TO GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE JEEP STARTS TO MISFIRE!!!!
SERVICE SHIFTER NOTICE COMES ON DISPLAY SCREEN SPORADICALLY. SOMETIMES IT IS ON INITIAL START, SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. ALL SHIFTER POSITION LIGHTS ILLUMINATE ON SHIFT INDICATOR. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE CLEARS MESSAGE.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND SERVICE SHIFTER CAME ON AND LOCKED OUT THE SHIFTING. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING IT WAS TURNED OFF. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON MARCH 6TH 2019, AFTER SHIFTING THE VEHICLE FROM PARK I MADE IT TO ROUGHLY THE END OF THE PARKING LOT OR LESS THAN 1/8 MILE AND AGAIN THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COME ON LOCKING OUT THE ACTUAL SHIFTING MECHANISM. THE SECOND CONDITION WAS MY CRUISE WAS SET AT 66 MILES AN HOUR WELL TRYING TO REDUCE AND CANCEL SPEED CRUISE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF UNTIL I HIT THE BRAKES HARD TO AVOID THE CRASH.

SHIFTER SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AND DEALERSHIP STATED THE WIRING HARNESS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER ALL CAME ON WHEN STARTED AND THE SHIFTER WAS ENGAGED.
MY SERVICE GEAR SHIFTER LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. ALL BOTTOMS LIGHT UP ON SHIFTER. FEELS KINDA LIKE IT HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING. I PULLED OVER SHUT CAR OFF AND LIGHT WENT OFF. I DROVE IT ANOTHER WEEK WITH NO ISSUES AND LIGHT CAN ON AGAIN.
THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 4 TIMES IN A 2 WEEK PERIOD. WHILE DRIVING ON SERVICE STREETS A PINGING NOISES GOES OFF..THE BATTERY LIGHT A LIGHTENING BOLT AND SHIFT INTO DRIVE APPEARS AND LASTS A FEW SECONDS. THE STEERING WHEEL GETS VERY HEAVY AND HARD TO TURN. THE VEHICLE TURNS OFF! THE RADIO CONTINUES TO PLAY. I CANNOT SHIFT INTO PARK. WHEN I TRY TO TURN THE IGNITION IT MAKES A SCREECHING NOISE..AFTER THE SECOND ATTEMPT IT USUALLY WILL RESTART. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM AFRAID TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL OF MY CAR!
I HAVE HAD MY JEEP CHEROKEE FOR 3 YEARS AND MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN JERKING THE WHOLE TIME I HAD THE VEHICLE. FINALLY TODAY, A SERVICE ERROR CAME UP. IT SAYS SERVICE SHIFTER WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS. IT FELT LIKE MY VEHICLE WAS ABOUT TO TURN OFF. MY SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE HAS BEEN STAYING ON. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED GIVING THE MESSAGE IT WOULD GO OFF WHEN I CUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND I WOULDN'T GET THE MESSAGE AGAIN FOR A WHILE BUT NOW IT IS STAYING ON. I'VE ALSO BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING REALLY HARD SOMETIMES BUT ONLY WHEN I GET THE SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE.

RANDOMLY GET ALL THE GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS LIGHT UP AND MESSAGE APPEARS ON SCREEN SAYING "SERVICE SHIFTER". THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY WHILE IN MOTION, SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF A FEW TIMES FOR IT TO GO AWAY. AT FIRST WAS VERY INFREQUENT BUT LATELY A LOT MORE FREQUENT.
WHILE DRIVING, SERVICE SHIFTER WILL DISPLAY ON DASH AND ALL LIGHTS AT SHIFTER WILL LIGHT UP. TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON GETS RID OF THE MESSAGE FOR A WHILE, BUT IT COMES BACK ON AFTER A FEW MILES---MOST OF THE TIME. I GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO A COUPLE DIFFERENT DEALERS AND GOT DIFFERENT DIAGNOSTICS. SOMETIMES IT COMES ON WHEN SHIFTING TO DRIVE AND SOMETIMES A MILE DOWN THE ROAD, AND SOMETIMES AFTER 300 MILES, BUT IT COMES ON A LOT AND IT IS WORRYING ME, ESPECIALLY SINCE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE ISSUE AND JEEP HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT YET. SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT ON, VEHICLE STOPPED COMPLETLEY WHILE DRIVING. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER.
JUST BOUGHT A USED 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE TRAILHAWK 36867 MILES AND THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT HAS COME UP ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL LIGHTS NEXT TO PRND TURNED RED. PULLED OVER AND STOPPED TURNED OFF ENGINE, PUT IN PARK AND THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING. TURNED ENGINE ON/OFF TWICE THEN GOT IT INTO PARK THEN BACK INTO DRIVE. MADE IT HOME AND VEHICLE STILL HAS ALL LIGHTS NEXT TO PRND ON AND SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE REMAINS.
WHILE IN MOTION- CAR CHIMES, ALL LIGHTS ON SHIFTER ILLUMINATE, DASH READS "SERVICE SHIFTER" HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE MARCH 2019 AND AS RECENTLY AS NOVEMBER 2019. TAKING CAR IN TO BE CHECKED ON 11/20/2019.
I PURCHASED MY JEEP BACK IN APRIL 2019 AND I HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE GEAR SHIFT ALMOST EVERY SINGLE MONTH TO CURRENT. MY CAR WILL LITERALLY SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WILL READ "SERVICE SHIFT GEAR". I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN IT OFF, WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES FOR IT TO CRANK BACK UP AND THE THE MESSAGE GOES AWAY. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE RECENTLY THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL AND I HAVE LOOKED THIS ISSUE UP AND THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET HELP FROM THE DEALERSHIPS. NOTHING SPECIFICALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR SHUTS OFF IT WILL JUST DO IT RANDOMLY.
"SERVICE SHIFTER" NOTIFICATION ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE PRNDL LIGHTS ARE SOLID RED NEAR THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER. I HAVE TAKE THE JEEP TO THE DEALER WHILE IT WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD AND THEY ADVISED IT NEEDED AND UPDATE AND TO MY UNDERSTANDING THAT'S WHAT THEY DID. NOW 6-8 MONTHS LATER THE SAME NOTIFICATION APPEARS ON THE DASH AND THE LIGHTS NEAR THE SHIFTER ARE SOLID RED. WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THEY GO AWAY TO ONLY COME BACK ON AGAIN AFTER A FEW DAYS OR EVEN A COUPLE MINUTES. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THIS OCCURRED AT LOW AND HIGHER SPEEDS.
FOR NO APPARENT REASON THE "SERVICE SHIFTER" MESSAGE APPEARS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BLOCKING MOST OTHER ACTIVE DRIVING INFORMATION AND ALL DOTS ON THE SHIFTER HOUSING BECOME RED. SEE PICS. THIS HAS OCCURRED COUNTLESS TIMES SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2018, BUT DOES NOT APPEAR TO AFFECT IT'S DRIVING CAPABILITY. I HAVE COMBED THROUGH COUNTLESS JEEP FORUMS ON THE INTERNET AND WOULD SAY IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM HOWEVER WITH NO CLEAR SOLUTION. JEEP HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS THIS ONGOING ISSUE AND I AM UNCERTAIN OF THE POTENTIAL RISK I AM TAKING BY CONTINUED DRIVING OF THIS VEHICLE AND WHAT EFFECT THIS ACTUALLY HAS ON THE VEHICLE AND ITS FUTURE DRIVABILITY
GEAR SHIFTER: ALL LIGHTS COME ON AND AN ERROR CODE STATING THAT SHIFTER NEEDS TO BE SERVICED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH APART. IF THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE ERROR CODE DOES NOT RETURN.
IT BEGAN WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYING ON EVEN AFTER OIL CHANGES, THEN WHEN I WOULD TURN ON THE IGNITION KEY IT WOULD MAKE A TAP TAP SOUND AS THOUGH IT DIDNT HAVE ANY POWER, OR WHILE I WOULD BE AT A COMPLETE STOP WHILE AT A LIGHT IT WOULD SOUND AS THOUGH THE JEEP WAS LOSING POWER AND WAS GOING TO TURN OFF, THEN IT DID TURN OFF ON ME WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. I HAD THE BATTERY CHECKED BY A FRIEND HE SAID IT WAS READING THAT IT HAS POWER AND THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS GOOD ALSO, THEN FINALLY IT LEFT ME STRANDED AT WT WORK, IT WOULDN'T TURN ON. I HAVE NO ONE TO HELP ME SO I TOOK A CHANCE AND ASKED A STRANGER TO PLEASE CHECK MY CAR, HE GAVE ME A BOOST, IT TOOK 2 MIN TO GET MY JEEP GOING AGAIN..THIS MORNING AT 4:30 AM I WASNT ABLE TO GO TO WORK MY JEEP WOULDN'T TURN ON..SO MY NEIGHBOR TOOK MY TO AUTO PARTS TO BUY A NEW BATTERY, MY JEEP IS 2 YEARS OLD..I'M A SINGLE 52 YEAR OLD FEMALE,I CANT AFFORD TO BE STRANDED OR UNABLE TO GET TO WORK.
THE VEHICLE WILL STALL/DIE WHILE DRIVING. THERE IS NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES INCLUDING WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60 MPH. I WAS TOLD BE THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A FAIL SAFE THAT IS IN PLACE TO PROTECT THE CAR FROM LOW OIL. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, I KEPT CAREFUL WATCH ON MY MILEAGE AND OIL STATUS BUT DID NOT PHYSICALLY CHECK MY OIL. NOW WITH 600 MILES TO GO BEFORE THE NEXT SUGGESTED OIL CHANGE, THE CAR HAD STALLED THREE TIMES IN A WEEK. IT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. THE CAR WILL NOT START AGAIN RIGHT AWAY. I'VE JUST DROPPED IT AT THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THIS IS COMMON WITH THIS ENGINE AND THAT I MAY NEED TO PHYSICALLY CHECK MY OIL EVERY 1000 MILES TO ENSURE IT IS NOT LOW. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THIS FAIL SAFE PUT ME AT RISK ON A HIGHWAY AND ON A HIGHWAY ENTRANCE RAMP. I ALSO SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PHYSICALLY CHECK MY OIL ON A NEW CAR AND PAY TO GET OIL CHANGES MORE FREQUENTLY THAN SUGGESTED. THE CAR HAS STALLED ON A NEIGHBORHOOD SURFACE STREET TWICE, ON A HIGHWAY ENTRANCE RAMP ONCE AND ON THE HIGHWAY AT FULL SPEED. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DRIVING STRAIGHT. A MESSAGE COMES ON THAT SAYS, "SHIFT TO PARK OR NEUTRAL, PRESS BRAKE TO SELECT GEAR". I HAVE SEEN MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET.
