I was driving in city traffic and when I tried to accelerate, the Jeep would not increase in speed. It caught per se and nothing happened. Then, the Jeep started downshifting very hard upon slowing. When we went to the dealer and spoke with the technician, he immediately said that the computer needed updating. He said he's been seeing this a lot in these models. Sure enough, $300 dollars later and an upgraded computer, it is driving fine. I want to add that the dealer and service department was great, I just think this problem is somehow on Jeep's end.
The rear differential failed. Our safety was put at rick because this is what drives the rear wheels causing them to lock up and lose control. The vehicle is currently at the local jeep dealer and they have deemed it to fail. The issue is apparently a very common as there are over 1k units on back order. Over 6 months back log so with no help from the dealership we have a 6k paper weight.
Took car to Dealership due to air bag warning light illuminating on car but no collision. Dealer stated the car onboard module which controls the air bag deployment system was defective and possible would not have worked in an accident.
Engine failed in traffic and would not start resulting in pushing vehicle by hand out of highway. Towed to dealership and was told needed new engine $17000.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for a State Inspection, the contact was informed that there was an engine oil cooler leak into the intake manifold, and the oil cooler needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
Svc 4wd light has been on for several months. Had it checked out at auto shop. They stated that ptu needed had issues and would cost 3000 to repair. Did not get it fixed.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated before surging forward and accelerating. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the power transfer unit had failed. The power transfer unit was replaced. The contact stated that after the vehicle was repaired, the contact learned online that there was a recall related to the failure under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.
I could not get out of the driver's side of the car. I was the driver and tried to leave the vehicle, it would not let me. Something wrong with the door handle. Window does work on driver's side; but not the handle to open car door to exit. If I or anyone else in my situation was in an accident, I would not be able to get out on my own without emergency personnel help. Only day to take it to original dealership is next Tues. [XXX]. [XXX]and had to climb over the middle console to exit front passenger door. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I've been advised that the cover over the rear differential is cracked and that the entire differential needs to be replaced. It seems illogical that the cover protecting a rear differential on a Jeep vehicle would be of a material that would crack when the vehicle has not been driven under extreme conditions. Both drivers have been and are currently [XXX] and have not had any citations. My residence is on a dirt road and some of my travel is on dirt roads however the appropriate care is taken. The vehicle is a 2019 with approximately 32,000 miles which indicates that the yearly mileage is low. I would appreciate consideration that the material used for the cover is faulty and that I should not be subject to the expense of replacing it and the rear differential. Fortunately it is not providing problems at this time and I have contacted the dealer to get it repaired/replaced. BUT I truly feel that this is faulty equipment on a JEEP. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My engine just went out without warning. Haven’t had it for a full year and it went out. I was driving to work and my car wouldn’t go above 50 and it started to jerk so I had to pull over and it was smoking from the hood. I had oil in my vehicle so I don’t understand how this happened on a new vehicle I just purchased.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (POWER TRAIN). However, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the 4WD warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was diagnosed. The contact was informed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) had failed. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000
4wd indicator light is on - PTU MOTOR OR SYSTEM BLOCKED, FOLLOWED TROUBLESHOOTING PER WSM, TRACED TO FAULTY ELECTRONICS IN POWER TAKE OFF UNIT, NEED TO REPLACE
I noticed an oil leak in the rear of the car. I went underneath and noticed the casing of the rear differential is separating at the seam. This can cause the rear to lock up, which can cause a loss of control. The warranty is expired. After doing research, there are thousands of cases with the exact same problem. My mechanic even said he has seen this on a few different jeeps of the same model. This should be a recall.
4wd service light on, faulty power transfer unit. Known issue in Jeep Cherokees, many 2016-2017 vehicles were recalled for the same exact issue
At 48,000 to 49,000 my vehicle started experiencing PTU issues and Auto start/stop feature issues. My PTU unit started grinding and making loud noises while driving. I contacted my local Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership and they said my PTU and the sensor for the PTU was going out and needed to be replaced. I couldn’t drive my car for over 2 weeks because it was in the shop. It costs me over $5000 to get it replaced. My warranty couldn’t cover it and it says I don’t have any recalls. But other similar vehicles have the same issue and give a recall. After more research on the PTU issue, I noticed that 2013-2017 had the same recalls. Now my 2019 is being included with the FCA # 01C and the NHTSA Campaign # 25V011000. I believe my vehicle should be part of this safety issue and I should be reimbursed for this common safety issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the brakes were erroneously activated, causing the vehicle to stop abruptly in the middle of the road. During the failure, the messages "Service Emergency Brake" and "Service Throttle Body" were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the ABS control module and throttle body module were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was contacted, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000.
When approaching a light, the car will completely shut off and my steering wheel will lock, and the emergency break will engage. I will be unable to use any part of my car for at least 1-2 minutes before the break releases and allows me to start my car again.
On [XXX] I went to a dealership Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep in Tucson Arizona to fix a recall for my vehicle. They denied to fix my vehicle claiming that it was not register under my name, which is not true. I can provide a copy of my vehicle registration if needed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Parking brake keeps engaging on its own and become stuck very hard to disengage What started out as an occasional problem now happens every time I move my car from park to reverse or drive.
The contact's granddaughter owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the PTU warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the PTU sensor unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Manufacturers spark plug broke off into engine and destroyed my engine. Vehicle only had 76,000 miles on it. When I ordered a new engine from Jeep there was a wait of 10 weeks with about 20+ people in front of me. I sent the spark plug to Jeep and they will not return it. I do have pictures on my phone. There’s still 20+ people waiting on an engine. This seems to be a massive problem with the vehicle costing people thousands. It should be investigated at the very least.
I have complained about my 2019 jeep latitude + from the first oil change I have to add 2-3 quarts of oil between oil changes. Jeep dies out in the middle of the road. And will not shift our start had to call dealership while almost being hit by several vehicles to find out I had to put the key fob by the start button and had the battery changed. Already complained customer service. I cant get nothing done with this jeep. It is a death.hazard please do something about this before someone is killed or injured. I have owned 3 jeeps and loved them all. But this one is a Lemon. Please help
Hello, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee that I have has a cracked rear differential and no accident that the vehicle was in could’ve caused. I also know another person personally that has the same year make, and model as me that has the exact same problem of a cracked rear differential. Also, after talking to a mechanic in our local area, who stated he sees cracked rear differentials in Jeep Cherokees A lot more than he thinks he should and is surprised there’s no recalls on it. The safety concern has led me to decide to get rid of the car since I am concerned there should be a recall on this part of the Jeep Cherokee, but there is not, and I feel other recalls could be overlooked as well. Also, after some research online, I see there are many cases of the same cracked rear differential in the jeep Cherokee, especially in and around the year of 2019. There was no specific incident that happened to report on. I could hear a noise so we’ve had three mechanics/appraisers people look at it. All quote around $3,000 to repair. Also, all say this kind of crack is unsafe to drive.
The old battery died and auto zone installed a new one. The AAA tech that jumped me told me that the computer would be weird?? A safety hazard is when I put in reverse the back camera doesn’t go on?? So if I don’t look or don’t hear anything then there could be an accident?? Also the tire pressure on the console doesn’t work?? If I had a flat while driving it would not tell me how low my psi is on the tire?? I could have an accident?? Also the acceleration I think is slower due to the computer error that tells me to service shifter?? I just had a new battery installed and should not have these issues due to jeep having programming issues after a new battery is installed?? I never had this problem on any car I had after a battery installation???
The contact's grandson owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the passenger’s side front seat belt failed to lock as designed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the seat belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was not available.
Cylindar number 4 was damaged by spark plug breaking. Causing loss of power and loss of use of vehcile. Book says to replace at 100000 miles it was at 81000 Loss of power going through mountain passes a short distance in front of other vechiles they were able to go around. YEs confirmed by two auto techs both say its a known issue with this vechile Third Party Warrenty company confirmed issues denied claim as they cover the engine but not the part that broke the engine Lights came on as it happened.
The screen on my vehicle began delaminating at a significant rate. As the screen continues to delaminate, the u-connect screen registers the touches as inputs. E.g. it will turn off my lights while i'm driving, switch to the back-up camera as i'm driving forward. This system controls steering, braking, and other important safety features
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and driving occasionally, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and it was determined that the torque converter clutch needed to be updated. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was low. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 163,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who observed a misfire in cylinder two, and 90% compression in all other cylinders, resulting in damages to the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, who confirmed the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
Keep getting 4WD is disabled indication and service 4WD indicator. The error code starts after starting the car and stays on continually Took it to the dealer and got Diagnostic Trouble Code C14A7-97. The transmission has been not shifting as usual and some time the wheels squeel when making a turn from the stop position.
Transmission needs to be replaced at 33,000 miles on the vehicle. While driving on a major expressway I experienced harsh up shifts from gears 1-2 & 2-3. It felt like the vehicle was being rear-ended. The vehicle died out and check engine light went on. Vehicle restarted and seemed to go back to normal for the rest of the drive. Vehicle was inspected at 2 Jeep dealers recommending new transmission and all related gaskets & Hardware. No warmings of any kind happened prior to this incident. Apparently there was a recall for this exact problem on the 2019 Jeep Cherokee yet my VIN number is not included. Recall: 2019 model year (KL) Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a 948TE 9-speed transmission. NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V-492
While coming to a stop the vehicle just died while in traffic. Managed to get to an auto zone and the code was p018c fuel pressure sensor B circuit low. The stop/start feauture also just randomly stops working. Jeep has no answer to this. The vehicle dying while in traffic could be deadly.
PTU first stopped allowing the vehicle to shift into 4 wheel drive, now it is showing a warning (while driving) on the instrument cluster that says "4WD Neutral Warning Vehicle May Move Even in Park". This notice pops up when driving or cruising at highway speed. Automatic transmission, no shift attempted at time warning appears.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate, and the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine valve had failed and entered the engine cylinder causing catastrophic damages to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V344000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 86,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at slower speeds up to approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle was shaking with the transmission shifting hard. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. There were no warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle intermittently hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
I bought a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited used on July 30, 2024. Through the rest of the year I experienced a short sharp sudden pull from the steering wheel to the right and left. This happens frequently, several times in every drive. I had tires replaces and suspension balanced on March 5, 2025. This did not change the issue. When driving, the vehicle pulls left or right randomly especially at higher speeds. It is scary to be on highway and suddenly be pulled toward another lane. I have no open recalls and my mechanic can not locate the problem. I am very concerned. It is not safe so I do not travel far because of unsolved situation. Please provide a means to solve this 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited V6 issue
On 7.27.24, at 30,800 miles, my 2019 Jeep Cherokee displayed a warning light on the dashboard to service 4WD, stating that 4WD is unavailable. A trip to the dealer on 8.2.24 for diagnosis states the PTU has an internal fault and needs to be replaced. The vehicle is out of warranty. The replacement PTU part is on back order with no ETA. Dealer advised that driving with this warning light may or may not result in further damage. It could lead to damage of an axle or worse. Upon further research online, the PTU failure appears to be a known issue for many Jeep Cherokee owners.
One day before the incident occurred, I was sitting at a red light and the Start/Stop light was green like normal, all of a sudden, it turned amber, and the engine kicked back on. It drove normally, the next day, I tried to start it and it wouldn't turn over, the gas tank was almost full. This is the 2nd time a battery change was done. The first time was for normal service, the battery needed to be changed. The Start/Stop system has worked normally since I bought it (in 2018) The mileage is ~83,000
Engine started running rough, MIL light came on and flashing after 10 minutes of highway driving. Found code P0300 for random misfire, monitors cylinder misfire with scan tool and found cylinders 1 and 2 misfiring. Tested coils, checked spark plugs and tested fuel injectors, no issues found. Performed compression test and found cylinders 1 and 2 with 8-15psi. 3rd and 4th cylinders at 160 psi. Engine teardown needed, used engine prices are high hinting this is happening often. Vehicle had 73,389 miles and been maintained well.
At random times the radio will start changing stations on its own and it will also dial phone numbers. Most recently it dialed 911 while grandkids were in the car. It will also turn the heat or AC on and off, changes temperature settings, sometimes it turns on the backup camera. everything that is on the Uconnect control panel is affected. The only way to get it to stop is to shut the Uconnect radio system off. This is a safety distraction when it starts these problems. From the research I have done other vehicles with this same radio Uconnect system have safety recalls issued, it needs to be extended to all vehicles with this system.
Service 4 wheel drive light came on. Went to dealership and after diagnostics was told that PTU was bad. Vehicle had always had jerking acceleration. Told dealership several times but was told that was normal.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, the vehicle was vibrating and running rough before the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the valve stem keepers had failed, and the valve fell into the cylinder. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V344000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
Earlier this month, July, 2024 my car experienced a crash or malfunction of the electrical cluster which has caused all systems like (nav, radio, phone, climate) to not work and automatically turn on and off and switch between apps. Of immediate concern is my car keeps calling 911 after stating the SOS call was unsuccessful. The instrument panel cluster is non operational as stated in the recall. There was a recall for this exact problem stating only 52 Jeep Cherokees were impacted; mine is excluded. The Safety Recall is UC4/NHTSA 18V-917 Instrument Panel Cluster. I believe there is too much of a coincidence between my issue and the exact reason for the recall. I cannot get the company to simply let me talk with someone with knowledge of the recall. Ultimately, I want Chrysler to accept my recall per their own communication around the problem.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The START/STOP System warning light was illuminated. The contact parked and restarted the vehicle to correct the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
While driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly lost power to the wheels although the engine continued to run. This caused me to coast to a safe area to await a tow. The PTU was replaced under the Jeep recall in 2020. Recently the service 4WD light came on and I took it to a dealer for diagnosis. I was advised that there was an issue with the replacement PTU. As this is a drive line component, I believe it was a defective replacement part. I contacted Jeep about this issue and was told the part would not be replaced by the OEM because it had previously been replaced under recall. I was also assured the vehicle was safe to drive and the part would only impede the use of 4WD. This proved not to be true, and the sudden catastrophic failure of the part caused a very unsafe event in my case. If the replacement PTUs are defective in some portion of Jeeps repaired under this recall, then there may be many Jeep drivers suddenly losing power on the highway as those parts begin to fail prematurely. I believe this issue is worthy of your agency's attention for that reason, especially if the manufacturer believes the vehicles are safe to drive with a failed PTU and advises customers based on that understanding.
Vehicle turned off on highway while in drive. Would not start again after this happened and was only five years old. This created a significant safety risk of the veg I leg stopping on the highway. Due to this insurance would not cover, and vehicle was returned to bank. Was assessed at a dealership stating potentially could be repaired costing more than the value of vehicle. We became aware of a pending recall of the following issue that describes what occurred. “The power transfer unit (PTU) may become damaged and disengage the transmission and differential, resulting in a loss of drive power and/or loss of park function.”
During regular driving, the "4WD System Unavailable/Service Required" alert came on the driver screen and a "SVC 4WD" alert appeared on the bottom, right of the screen. It would appear intermittently at first but now it is there constantly when I start the car. It will also flash again every time I switch driving modes.
This is the second time that the PTU has failed. Svc 4wd and ACC not available again. Radio is malfunctioning.
The uConnect Panel system malfunctioned and was attempting to contact emergency services while I was driving, in addition to opening other apps on the system and rotating to the back camera while driving at high speeds on a highway. This is a common issue that I am reading about and is not safe and Jeep needs to fix this issue. Had there been more cars on the road, I could have easily been in an accident because it was alarming and I wasn't sure what was happening to my car. I drove straight to a service station and had them come see what was happening before turning it off so I could try and figure out a solution. I am also happy my children were not in the car. I have contacted the dealer but they have not returned my call and I do not think this cost should be put on the consumer when this is not a regular maintenance issue and is so common of a concern among consumers. It also appears that there have been other complaints in previous years, yet no one is considering the panic it causes drivers and the potential of major accidents.
