I was getting off the highway and my car stopped on me. I put my emergency lights on. I put the car on park and tried turning it on. The brake was hard to push down. I gave it a few minutes to rest and I tried 2 more times. The second time it turned on but imediately turned back off. I let it rest a minute or so and it finally turned on. I was scared for my life because there all on coming traffic coming off the interstate. I did call the police for help but as soon as I got it started I called back for them not to come. I also got a warning saying engine warming. 6:30 am 10-30-25
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving 65-70 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal grinding sound. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon shifting to Park(P), the RPMs continued to rev, and the grinding sound persisted. Additionally, the vehicle failed to respond upon shifting to drive(D) or reverse(R). The message "Service 4WD" was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's friend. The vehicle was then driven to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with PTU failure. The dealer related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was later towed to Liberty Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (1000 E Park Ave, Libertyville, IL 60048). The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided reimbursement for vehicle rental, and the contact was informed that the vehicle might be repaired in January 2026. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
The vehicle is a 2019 Jeep Cherokee with approximately 70,000 miles on it. Check 4WD light came on. Took it to a Jeep dealer who said that it is a problem with the rear differential and would cost $6,000 to repair. Vehicle's VIN is not included in the PTU recall which has affected other 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokees.
While im driving my car completley shuts down with no notice or anything. I have to restart the whole vehicle for it to start running again. This happened to me while i was on the high way slowing down and on the street slowing down to turn. I almost got into 2 car accidents this morning because of this. Not sure whats going on but my dashboard completely goes blank and flashes when this happened. This occured on 10/29/2025 at 6;45-6;50 am.
Have had multiple issues where stop/stop fails while at a stop in the street and either doesn’t start again or starts after a while. Last time on 10/29/2025 I was at a stop just getting off I-10 and the car would not start and gave start stop error and took multiple minutes before starting again. This first began 5/2024. Dealership has replace the battery, starter relay, and the start twice. It is a huge safety concern for me being stuck in the middle of the street or at a stop

The contact was informed that the NHTSA had initiated the unknown recall. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
There is a current recall for Jeep Cherokees 2017-2019 for a faulty PTU. My vehicle is not included in the recall, however, it is displaying issues consistent with the PTU. In auto drive-mode, there is a low grinding noise up to 18 mph. In snow, sand, and gravel drive-modes, there the noise is constant to at least 30mph. When the fuses were removed to try to disable the PTU, the noise was considerably louder at all speeds in auto drive-mode. Once the fuses were reinserted, the noise went back to the original under 18mph in auto. There are no noticeable issues with the braking or steering systems.
My 2019 Jeep Lost all power. Shortly after that My service 4wd light came on. I understand that this is a recent recall for the PTU but, my VIN number is not showing this recall. How do I get my Jepp added to this recall for the service 4wd indicator?
I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee with only 30,000 miles. The car is mostly used to drive to and from work. Nothing crazy. The SVC 4WD light came on. I took it to a JEEP dealership. They said, “Transfer Case - Clutch Pressure Regulating Solenoid: C14A7-97 - PTU Motor-Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked, FOUND THAT THE TRANSFER CASE COLLAR SPLINES ARE GONE, WE NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE ASSEMBLY.” Like others have posted, a similar recall was issued but they said it doesn’t apply to my car. However, SO many people are having this issue the parts are on back order. They want to charge $13,000 to fix it. How is this possible with a car that has only 30,000 miles, no accidents, and regular maintenance?
The contact's girlfriend owns a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the “Service 4WD” warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed PTU. The contact was informed that the PTU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failur,e and a case was filed. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar failure description; however, the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
When driving I experienced the loss of power when trying to accelerate. My Jeep began to exhibit a loud noise and vibration which sounded like a "Jack Hammer" being used. There was a smell like something was burning, there was jerking, grinding, making clunking noises and happened each time I was making a turn or trying to accelerate. This put my safety and other drivers safety at risk because it could have caused an accident especially with the loss of power. My wheels can lock up and this will cause me not be able to steer or have control over my vehicle. This can cause harm to myself and others which can include death of either party. I do have fluid that leaks from under the vehicle and the burning smell comes through the car vents. The problem has been reported to a confirmed Jeep dealership, Fred Frederick with no resolution because they are still unable to obtain the parts. I contacted them as soon as I was notified of the recall which was January 23, 2025. My AWD light does come on and off but I am uncertain of the dates. My Jeep Cherokee has the 2.4L Turbo engine. I also notice that the FCW does not operate properly as before and since this incident, I am not able to drive my vehicle due the unexpected loss of motion/power while driving and to prevent further damage.
The 4WD service light keeps coming on and off in my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus. The obd2 code c1494-92 displays. This is directly related to a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) issue. There was a recall issued in January of 2025 (recall 01C). However, I am being told that my VIN is not covered under this recall. I contacted the manufacturer (Jeep) and there were not able to give me a reason why the 01C recall does not cover my vehicle. The NHTSA referred me to the manufacturer. But I keep getting the runaround and nobody is providing me a clear answer on this issue.
The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) in my 2019 Jeep Cherokee failed, producing a “Service 4WD” warning and DTC C14A7-97 (“PTU motor obstructed/blocked”). An authorized dealer removed and inspected the PTU and documented internal damage (metal debris and worn components). The dealer charged over $1,400 for the teardown/diagnostic and then reassembled the failed unit because Stellantis could not supply a replacement part. The AWD system remains inoperative, creating a potential loss-of-drive/safety risk while driving. Importantly, the dealer Dicks Dodge/Jeep in Wilsonville, OR failed to disclose that this is part of an active technical service bulletin (STAR Case S1721000016 Rev A) and related to NHTSA Recall 25V-011 affecting 2017-2019 Cherokees, repeatedly missed promised callbacks, provided no timeline for parts, and offered no substantive remedy other than suggesting a trade-in. The dealer’s lack of communication and refusal/ inability to obtain parts left me with an un-repaired, potentially unsafe vehicle and billed for work that produced no fix. The component is available for inspection upon request.
The rear differential is separating. If it fails, the car will suddenly cease operation, which may result in a collision. The part was inspected and the defect confirmed by the dealer. No warning lights are active yet.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the messages "Four-wheel Drive(4WD) system Unavailable - Service Requested" and "Service Four-wheel Drive(4WD)" were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the Power Transfer Unit(PTU) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that assistance could not be provided because the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 41,590.
Car is experiencing an issue with 4WD and the warning light indicates the system needs to be services. There is an open recall for the exact Model, and Year but does not include my VIN. There are no parts available and I have a vehicle that can not be driven.
First brake switch stopped working. I could not move vehicle and had to have it towed to dealer where the brake switch was replaced. Now less than year later I get a SVC 4WD notice.this happened right after I had my vehicles oil changed and tires rotated. I am told I now have a faulty PTU actuator that must be replaced for almost $2k. I have a 2019 Cherokee L with 88,500 miles.
4WD Service Light stays on and Dealership says PTU Actuator box needs replaced @ nearly $4,000 It's a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 70 miles on it. The part is on a high alert back order and may take a very long time to come in. I am really pissed because I have only owned it for 10 months and if I keep driving it, it could destroy the transmission.
Infotainment not functioning and draining battery. Back up camera not operational
Approximately two weeks before the major symptom appeared, the “Service 4WD” warning light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle’s performance didn’t seem to be noticeably affected, so I checked for any active recalls or service bulletins but found none that applied to my VIN. I monitored the situation closely in case it was an electrical or sensor-related issue. Shortly after, a loud clunking noise began coming from the drivetrain area, most noticeable during acceleration and deceleration. After arriving home, I immediately stopped driving the vehicle due to serious safety concerns and contacted my mechanic. A certified mechanic inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the transfer case (Power Transfer Unit) had failed and required replacement. The mechanic stated that this is a common problem in 2019 Jeep Cherokees. After researching, I found many other reports of similar failures, all traced to transfer-case defects. However, my VIN is not currently included in any recall. I believe this defect is related to known issues affecting Jeep Cherokee transfer cases and should be investigated further by NHTSA. I respectfully request that NHTSA open or expand an investigation into transfer case and PTU failures on 2019 Jeep Cherokee models to determine whether a recall and reimbursement for repairs are warranted.
my vehicle suddenly loss power and started decelerating while i was driving on the freeway on october 11th of 2025 . upon taking my vehicle to a mechanic i was told the TPU was the issue . i remembered this was an issue that had been recalled . i called the manufacturer and dealership . both told me that there was nothing they could do , i could not have my car fixed til there was a resolution and they could not provide me with a loaner vehicle . they told me my only option was to fix the car myself and have the money refunded to me after i show proof . the mechanic quotes me $2,000 to fix my vehicle . i do not have that amount to fix something that should’ve have BEEN fixed because the recall has been out for a whole year now . so for 3 months i have been without my vehicle up and running . i have gotten my payments pushed back on my jeep but now they have started again and i refuse to pay for something that i can’t drive ! especially after i could’ve died on the freeway
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). While driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle began shuddering and stalled. The 4X4 warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to remain in 4WD. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part was not yet available for the recall repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.
The service 4-wheel drive light warning light came on. It is a PTU issue that Jeep has recalled 63K vehicles on in February. My jeep has been sitting in the shop since 9/8/2025 with no anticipated date of receiving a part. It is unsafe to drive the vehicle; therefore, I have been without a vehicle for almost 2 months. Jeep is aware of the issue and is doing nothing to correct the issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 80 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to safely pull over to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train) and referred the contact to a dealer for further assistance. The contact also verified through Carfax that the vehicle was included in the recall; however, the part to complete the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,693. The VIN was not available.
I have a jeep cherokee 2019. A lot on people including myself have reported online that the PTU and it's wiring of the above-mentioned VIN has a problem of failing and start to flash message to service 4wheel drive system. This should be rectified with no fault of myself and others customers.
My vehicle is under an open safety recall 01C involving the PTU system, and there has been no remedy available for nearly a year. This defect caused a dangerous and sudden loss of acceleration while I was driving, and the manufacturer has still provided no fix, and no support through the dealership. The incident occurred when I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green,I pressed the gas and the vehicle immediately made a loud grinding/shaking noise, shuddered violently, and lost all propulsion. The car would barely move. I was extremely lucky that there was a parking lot directly next to the intersection, and with the tiny amount of movement left,I was able to coast into it. If this failure had happened anywhere else—on a highway, in the middle of an intersection, or without a place to pull off—I could have been rear-ended or caused a collision. My safety was put at immediate risk due to this recall defect. I contacted the dealership, but they stated they could not repair the vehicle because Jeep/Stellantis had not released a remedy, parts, or service procedure for the recall. I was told multiple times that there was nothing they could do until Jeep provided a fix. After the breakdown, an independent shop confirmed the PTU failure, since the dealer still had no ability to repair it. All failed components and documentation are available for inspection. I lost use of my vehicle and was forced to take safety into my own hands. When I submitted reimbursement documentation to Jeep Customer Care, they denied it because the repair was not done at a certified dealer and did not use MOPAR parts—even though no certified repair or MOPAR parts exist for this recall. This leaves me without a safe vehicle, without a remedy, and without support. I am requesting NHTSA intervention due to the ongoing safety risk and the manufacturer’s failure to provide a timely fix and proper reimbursement for their admitted issue with the vehicle.
there are 3 lights that keep jumping on P! We have been advised by a Jeep Dealer that this vehicle's PTU is failing and needs to be replaced immediately before the car can be driven again. There is a current recall on other 2019 Jeep Cherokees with the same issue, "Loss of Drive Power from Damaged PTU", but our Jeep is not covered under this recall although it exhibits the same symptoms and is diagnosed with a failed/damaged PTU that needs to be replace. From everything that was reviewed and reviewing the recall it is the same problem that is reflected in the recalls that Jeep made on other 2019 Jeep Cherokees. We have been quoted by the dealership that this is a $3000 fix and when we contact Chrsyler/Jeep, FCA Stellantis customer service, they are not willing to assist with getting this fixed on the vehicle. There appears to be a significant amount of information in the public that this is a known issue for these vehicles. We would like to issue a complaint regarding the matter. I am [XXX] old and have had this car serviced at all recommended intervals. I can be reached at [XXX] . Thank you. The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving approximately 70 MPH, there was an abnormally strong burning odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. On another occasion, while the vehicle was parked, there was condensation underneath the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired; however, the contact inspected the vehicle and observed that the PTU seal was damaged. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact believed that the failure was associated with an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Our 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk made the warning code "service 4 wheel drive" and shortly after when parked at a gas station shifted itself into 4 LOW. I figured it out after starting to drive and we limped home which was a few miles away. We called the dealership and were told to bring it in for diagnostic. While parked on the inclined driveway the Jeep shifted itself into N and luckily I was able to press the brake (Non-ABS or hydraulic assistance due to the engine being off) stop it from rolling through the sidewalk into the street. I was able to get the Jeep into 2H to drive the 5 miles to dealership where they said they would do a diagnostic. 2 days later they texted us to say the transfer case was at fault and that would cost us $3825 up front and then we could submit a claim to Mopar to be reimbursed. I don't believe the original PTU (Transfer case) is available for inspection but you could ask the dealership. It's obvious our safety along with neighbors, pedestrians, and people driving down the street were put at risk, and had we known how serious the issue was, I would have asked for it to be towed to the dealership instead of driving it. The problem was confirmed by the dealer to be under recall. I don't know if anyone besides the dealership has inspected our failed PTU. We had very little warning to the problem. I believe the first time we saw the warning light was the same day the vehicle began having mechanical failures.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds on several occasions, the message "Service 4WD" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power transfer unit and the shift actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts being on backorder. The vehicle was taken to the residence, and the contact’s grandson disassembled the transmission and concluded that the shift actuator did not need to be replaced, but the PTU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on another occasion, while driving approximately 15 MPH, there was a thumping sound coming from under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the residence and parked. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,885.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the 4WD warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact noticed an abnormally loud sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a transfer case failure. The contact was informed that the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the vehicle was taken to a second independent mechanic which was a Jeep dealer mechanic, for a second opinion. The second independent mechanic confirmed the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,500.
PTU (Power Transfer Unit) failure has been diagnosed by the dealership on 10/4/2025 my make model and year fall under the existing recall but my vin is not covered. I’ve brought the issue up with the manufacturer and they’ve stated nothing can be done. I’m experiencing a "Service 4WD" warning light and occasionally loud noises, and vibrations while driving with occasional temporary loss of power.
Driving from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, then To DC, then VA, power steering service show up and caused my jeep hard to turning. Completely unexpected. I just got them 2 month ago.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds or depressing the brake pedal, there was an abnormal grinding sound coming from underneath the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with PTU failure. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to another local dealer, Imlay City Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (2093 S Van Dyke Rd, Imlay City, MI 48444), where the sway bar links, front struts, 6 cylinders tune up, brake fluid flush, transmission service, fuel injector, and radiator replacement were repaired or replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was previously taken to the local dealer for sway bar links, 2 lower control arms, 2 front steering knuckles, front wheel bearing replacement, and a 4-wheel alignment. The vehicle was repaired, but was taken back and was diagnosed and determined that two front struts and the PTU needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,952.
PTU is failing, car is having trouble going and stopping. Will not go into 4WD.
There has been an open recall for over a year and no remedy has been found. I am having failure with my speed power and every dealership wants to charge me because there is no remedy for this recall. My vehicle is eventually going to give out if I don't get this fixed and unfortunately i don't have the money.
In March 2025 I experience shaking while driving every time I stopped. Took to Dearlership and Power Transfer Unit was replaced. Now September 2025, I experience shaking while accelerating. No clear answer on what is causing this.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The "SVC 4WD" indication light comes on and off over that last 3 weeks. At times on the hightway I hear a loud noise with vibration, and loss of powe when driving. I took my 2019 Jeep Cherokee to Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat of Morgantown on 10/13/2025 for diagnostic inspection for this issue. The dealership advised that I needed to replace PTU assembly. There is currently a recall NHTSA 25V-011 (OEM 01C) of which Jeep Cherokee's built between 10/11/2016 and 02/20/2019 were affected. Recall cites this issue may cause vehicle to crash or injure others outside the vehicle. My vehicle was built 03/18 (within the timeframe), however, my VIN number does not return as having any recall notices, even though I am experiencing the exact issues described in the recall. I would request an investigation into whether my vehicle should be included for this issue. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
PTU UNIT IS LEAKING AND THERE IS METAL IN THE OIL. CONFIRMED BY MECHANIC AND DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY REPRESENTATIVE. CONFIRMED PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CAUSING VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS NOT CAUSED A SAFETY ISSUE BUT COULD IN THE FUTURE. IS NOT A VIN IN A RECALL, BUT I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE.
A "4WD unavailable, service needed" light came on. I took it to a jeep dealership. They inspected and notes were "Failure is inside the PTU. Part is on backorder with no ETA at this time." This description exactly fits the description of "Part 573 Safety Recall Report 25V011"
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and turning the steering wheel, there was an abnormal cranking and grinding sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who related the failure to the power transfer unit(PTU). The contact was then informed about NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train) and provided paperwork. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle started vibrating abnormally. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken a dealer where it diagnosed and determined that the PTU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure had occurred twice. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (POWER TRAIN); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 56,221.
Steering powering went out. Dealerships said power steering was blown.
The vehicle experienced a sudden and catastrophic failure of the powertrain/engine system. Based on dealer inspection, the failure requires complete replacement of the engine long block assembly, indicating an internal engine failure rather than a minor or maintenance-related issue. The vehicle and failed components are available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others were placed at significant risk. The vehicle first shut off completely while I was proceeding through a four-way stop intersection, forcing me to restart the vehicle while stopped in the middle of the intersection. Later, while driving on a very busy highway, the vehicle again lost power and became completely inoperable. I was barely able to maneuver the vehicle onto the shoulder, narrowly avoiding a collision. The vehicle then would not fully shut off despite multiple attempts, further indicating a serious malfunction. The problem has been confirmed by an authorized dealer, Krebs Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM in Gibsonia, PA. After diagnostics, the dealer issued a repair estimate calling for full engine long block replacement with an estimated total cost of approximately $13,900, confirming the severity of the failure. The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized Jeep dealership listed above. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives to my knowledge. There were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or noticeable symptoms prior to the failure. The shutdowns occurred suddenly and without advance notice.
