TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V4380000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS STICKING OUT FURTHER THAN IT SHOULD. THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE REMOTE START FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS NORMAL DUE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH BEING NEW. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
CAR IN MOTION. INCIDENT HAPPENED AT MARKER 173 NORTHPORT FL FUMES WERE DETECTED WHILE DRIVING AS I LOOKED OVER THERE APPEARED TO BE SMOKE ON THE FLOOR OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. I NOTICED THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS WARM IN ONE SPOT SO I MOVED MY PURSE. MY PURSE WAS COMPLETELY MELTED AS I PICKED IT UP SMOKE CAME BILLOWING OUT FROM THE SEAT. I WAS INHALING SOME SORT OF TERRIBLE SMELLING SMOKE. I OPENED WINDOWS SO I COULD BREATHE. THE SMOKE WAS GETTING THICKER. COULD NOT SEE FROM WINDOWS TO GET OVER TO RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD. ALSO AS DRIVING THE ODOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER NEEDLES WERE GOING BACK AND FORTH BUT I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY. I PULLED OVER SHUT CAR OFF. CAR SEAT CONTINUED TO BURN AND SMOKE. CALLED 911 AND FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO CUT BATTERY TERMINAL AND SPRAY CAR TO PUT FIRE OUT. HUGE HOLE IN SEAT WHERE FIRE WAS. SEAT WARMERS WERE NOT ON. THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS JUST MYSELF. IT IS UNKNOWN AS TO WHAT CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING SOUND. THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED, CHECK GAUGES, AND BATTERY WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND THEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PCM WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AFTER THE FAILURES, THE VEHICLE WAS REMEDIED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 111,000.
VEHICLE HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH FIXED WITH THE PRIOR RECALL, BUT I AM STILL HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT WHICH HAS TURNED ON AND THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN AND SEEMS TO GO INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING. THIS OCCURS AROUND 20 MPH, LOCAL ROADS AND LUCKILY NOT ON A HIGHWAY YET AND IF I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR NOTHING OCCURS AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHES. MY TRUCK HAS NOT COME UP UNDER THE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT I FEEL THAT IT IS RELATED ESPECIALLY AFTER READING ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS, PLEASE HELP.

WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE KEY REPLACEMENT BEFORE THE RECALL COULD BE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 JEEP COMMANDER, IT WILL SHUT OFF. OTHER TIMES THE LIGHTS WILL FLICKER OFF AND CAR SEEMS TO STALL. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS WITHOUT ANY WARNING. IT IS VERY SCARY TO BE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE CAR JUST STOPS!!! I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN THAT I DRIVE AROUND, SO THIS CAN NOT HAPPEN! I HAVE READ WHERE THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE BECAUSE LIVES ARE AT RISK. I'M TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL, BUT I HAVE READ WHERE THAT HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE I AM HAVING.
THIS COMPLAINT IS IN REGARDS TO A STALLING ISSUE IN MY 2007 5.7L JEEP COMMANDER. THE VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE IDLING AT STOPS AND DURING LOW SPEED MANEUVERING AT TURNS AND IN PARKING LOTS. WHILE AT SPEEDS OF 45 MPH+ THE VEHICLE WILL ATTEMPT TO STALL AND TEMPORARILY LOSE POWER. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND PLACING IT IN PARK, THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART. THIS HAS BECOME A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AS IT STALLS WHILE MANEUVERING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS AND AT INTERSECTIONS WHERE FOLLOWING VEHICLES ACCELERATE WHEN LIGHTS TURN GREEN. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO MULTIPLE SHOPS OVER THE PAST WEEK AND A HALF (INCLUDING THE JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS CURRENTLY LOCATED), IT WAS DETERMINED THE PCM REQUIRED REPROGRAMMING. FOLLOWING THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE PCM, THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN WHILE MANEUVERING FROM THE SERVICE BAY. PER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA07007, I CAN SEE THAT THE 2006, 4.7L COMMANDERS WERE RECALLED FROM WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE. I ALSO NOTICED THAT AN INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED CONCERNING THE 2006-2007 MODEL COMMANDERS WITH THE SAME ISSUES (INVESTIGATION # PE07009) BUT THE INVESTIGATION IS NOW 'CLOSED' AND 'UPGRADED TO AN ENGINEERING ANALYSIS (EA07-007) TO FURTHER ASSESS THE FREQUENCY, SCOPE AND POTENTIAL SAFETY CONSEQUENCES'. THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROVEN ISSUE WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER ERA VEHICLES WITH OVER 1.3 MILLION CHEROKEE AND COMMANDER'S RECALLED IN 2008 (HOOD, JAMES. "JEEP OWNERS COMPLAIN OF STALLING." CONSUMER AFFAIRS. 17 JULY 2013) AND 76 COMPLAINTS IN INVESTIGATION # PE07009. I AM FORTUNATE THAT DUE TO MY GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION I AM ABLE TO AVOID HEAVILY POPULATED THOROUGHFARES, BUT HAVE STILL HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS WHEN STALLING MID-INTERSECTION WITH ONCOMING CROSS TRAFFIC APPROACHING. THIS ISSUE GREATLY HAMPERS THE VEHICLE'S UTILIZATION AND HAS A DIRECT IMPACT ON MY FAMILY'S SAFETY.
1ST TIME: LOST ALL POWER WHILE IN MOTION AT SLOW RATE OF SPEED AFTER MY KNEE SLIGHTLY BUMPED THE KEY RING HANGING UNDER THE IGNITION (KNEE DID NOT TOUCH ACTUAL CAR KEY). 2ND TIME: LOST ALL POWER WHILE TRAVELING AT 80MPH (SPEED LIMIT IN UTAH) ON INTERSTATE 15 IN PASSING LANE AFTER KNEE SLIGHTLY GRAZED THE LOWER PART OF THE KEY CHAINS (KNEE DID NOT TOUCH ACTUAL KEY). WAS ABLE TO RESTART ENGINE QUICKLY IN BOTH CASES AND WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ON STRAIGHT SECTION OF ROADWAY AT THE TIME.
CAR WON'T START WHEN TURN KEY TO START. ALL CONTROL PANEL LIGHT AND AUDIO WORKS. WHEN TURN KEY BACK TO OFF POSITION TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP MESSAGE APPEARS. CAR HAD BEEN SITTING IN GARAGE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS THIRD OR FOURTH TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED.
THE 2007 JEEP COMMANDER I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED STARTS INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN TURNING THE IGNITION TO START, THERE IS A STALL BEFORE ALL CONTROLS COME ON, AND THEN THE JEEP DOES NOT START. THIS HAPPENED A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO FOR 1 DAY AND THEN BEGAN STARTING RIGHT AWAY, UNTIL NOW. IT DOES NOT START WITH A BATTERY JUMP, NOR DOES IT SHOW ANY SIGNS OF TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. IT SIMPLY DOES NOT START.

THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,993.
WHILE IN MOTION ON AN INTERSTATE, GOING ABOUT 70 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. THE ELECTRICAL WARNING PANEL FLICKERED. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO 30 MPH WITH ACCELERATOR PEDAL DEPRESSED COMPLETELY. NEEDING TO GET OFF OF INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ONLY GO 30 MPH ON A CITY STREET. OCCASIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE, JERK, AND THE ELECTRICAL WARNING PANEL WOULD FLICKER. TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP WARNING LIGHT THEN CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP. UNABLE TO PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE, VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND. WAITING TO BE INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM.
I HAVE A 2007 JEEP SAME ENGINE AND TRANS, IT IS DOING SAME THINK AS THE 2006 RECALL IS EXPRESSING. ALL I GET FROM DEALER IS THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG. I CAN'T GET THEM TO HELP ME WITH ANYTHING. IF YOU SEARCH THE WEB YOU WILL SEE THIS IS A BIG ISSUE ON THE 2007 JEEPS ALSO. I WAS VERY CLOSE TO GETTING INTO A CRASH TODAY. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. RECALL NUMBER: 08V203000RECALL DATE: 05/06/2008 COMPONENT: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM) PROBLEM SUMMARY: CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 24,461 MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4.7L V8 ENGINES. THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) WAS PROGRAMMED WITH SOFTWARE THAT MAY ALLOW THE ENGINE TO STALL UNDER CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS. CONSEQUENCE: THIS COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. WHAT OWNERS SHOULD DO: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE PCM SOFTWARE IN ALL 4.7L ENGINE EQUIPPED MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDERS BUILT PRIOR TO JANUARY 11, 2006. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 19, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
VEHICLE HAS A RECALL P41/NHTSA 14V-438 THAT WAS ISSUED OVER A YEAR AGO. I RECEIVED A SECOND NOTICE A COUPLE WEEKS AGO THAT THE ISSUE HAD FINALLY BEEN RESOLVED AND TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL JEEP DEALER. DEALER IS STILL UNABLE TO ADDRESS THE RECALL AND COULD NOT GIVE A TIME WHEN THE VEHICLE COULD BE SERVICED. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION HAVE BECOME MORE FREQUENT OVER THE LAST 3 MONTHS. LIGHTS WILL TURN ON AND OFF WITHIN THE VEHICLE. I AM UNSURE IF TURNING SIGNALS AND BRAKE SIGNALS ARE AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM.

THE DEALER INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE FAULTY ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH MAKING A TURN, THE CONTACT NOTICED WATER UNDERNEATH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EACH TIME IT RAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I PURCHASED MY JEEP IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR. THE 1ST WEEK I HAD IT, IT SEEMED TO BE BE LOOSING POWER SO I PUT IT IN THE SHOP TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THIS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE JEEP STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE I WOULD BE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN. DESPITE THE MANY ADVANCES OF PUTTING IT IN THE SHOP, THE PROBLEM NEVER SEEMED TO GET FIXED. ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO, I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND MY BOYFRIEND WHEN IT LOST POWER TO THE POINT IT SHUT OFF AGAIN. THANK GOD WE ALL WERE ABLE TO SAFELY MAKE IT OUT THE JEEP WITHOUT BEIMG INJURED. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP WERE I WAS TOLD MY MOTOR LOCKED UP. WHEN I ASKED THE MECHANIC HOW WAS THAT POSSIBLE HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. IT HAD OIL AND IT WASN'T RUNNING HOT AT ALL. IT NEVER RAN HOT AT ANY POINT ACTUALLY. WHEN HE CHECKED, HE FOUND THE JEEP DIDN'T HAVE ANY COOLANT BUT COULD NOT GIVE REASON TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. I CONTACTED SEVERAL JEEP DEALERSHIPS THAT TOLD ME THAT NEVER HADN'T NEVER BEEN ANY RECALL ON MY JEEP BUT I FOUND SEVERAL THINGS ON THE INTERNET STATING THAT THE ENGINE AND COOLANT SYSTEM A ON MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN AN ISSUE WITH OTHER JEEP OWNERS SAME YEAR; MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE.

I PURCHASED VEHICLE IN 2013 AND STALLING HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. IT USED TO STALL ONLY IN COLD WEATHER WHEN I CAME TO COMPLETE STOP. RESTARTING WAS NO PROBLEM. TWO YEARS AFTER PURCHASE, THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF EVERY TIME I SLOW DOWN, TURN OR COME TO A COMPLETE STOP REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER, TIME OF DAY OR SPEED. IT STILL HAS NO PROBLEM RESTARTING BUT IT IS UNSAFE AND INOPERABLE. SOMETIMES IT TAKES 5 MINUTES TO GET OUT OF A PARKING SPOT BECAUSE IT CONTINUES TO SHUT OFF. IT HAS TRIED TO SHUT OFF AT 60-70MPH ON THE FREEWAY. THE ENGINE JERKS BUT IF I STEP ON THE GAS AT THIS SPEED IT PREVENTS IT FROM STALLING. I HAVE HAD ALL OF THE RECALLS DONE AND NONE HAVE FIXED THE STALLING PROBLEM. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE AND EVERY DIAGNOSIS TEST IS AT MY EXPENSE. CHRYSLER SENT US A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN SEPTEMBER 2014 BUT AFTER CONTACT BOTH A DEALER AND CHRYSLER DIRECTLY THEY CLAIM THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE DEFECT. IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR AND THE VEHICLE ENGINE HAS DIED WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IT AT LEAST FOUR TIMES; THE LAST TIME HE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 70 MILES PER HOUR. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WOULD JUST SHUT OFF AT RANDOM LOSING BRAKES, STEERING AND ENGINE POWER AS WELL AS OTHER COMFORT FEATURES. IT HAS HAPPENED ON AT LEAST 6 OCCASIONS, USUALLY YOU COULD JUST SHIFT TO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AND RESTART THE CAR FIXING THE ISSUES. TODAY HOWEVER IT HAPPENED WILL SWITCHING LANES TO THE CENTER TURN LANE. UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES TO WAIT TO TURN LEFT THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, THEN ON THE SECOND DEPRESS IT WAS SUPER STIFF AND VERY LITTLE BRAKING FORCE APPLIED. THIS CAUSED THE JEEP TO REAR END THE 2 OTHER CARS WAITING TO TURN LEFT. THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY EITHER.

REPAIR SHOP REPORTED THAT DUE TO NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THE MODULE ACROSS THE COUNTY, THE REPLACEMENT PART IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE AND MAY TAKE UP TO A WEEK OR LONGER BEFORE THE PART IS AVAILABLE. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A COMMON FAULT IN THESE VEHICLES AND RENDERS OUR VEHICLE INOPERABLE FOR AN UNACCEPTABLE LENGTH OF TIME.
