TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I TRIED TO START MY 2007 JEEP COMMANDER AND IT WOULD ONLY CLICK. I GOT A TRANSMISSION OVER TEMPERATURE MESSAGE IN THE MESSAGE CENTER. ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WORKED EXCEPT THE IGNITION. NO ODB CODES APPEARED. THE NEXT DAY IT STARTED AS IF NOTHING IS WRONG. THE FOLLOWING DAY IT FAILED TO START AGAIN. AT THIS TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES. I HAVE GONE ON THE JEEP COMMANDER FORUM AND FOUND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. SOME COMMANDER OWNERS HAVE BEEN STRANDED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. SOME OWNERS HAVE SPENT LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY TRYING TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED, WITH NO SUCCESS. THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TACHOMETER REGISTERS HIGH FOR SPEED, SHIFTS IN A JERKY MANNER. DEALERSHIP SCANNED AND FOUND NO CODES. FOUND VACUUM LEAK AT IAC MOTOR. REPLACED IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR. RECHECKED OPERATION AND TEST DROVE. *TR
TACHOMETER REGISTERED HIGH RPMS FOR SPEED. SPEED RANGED FROM 30-70MPH. VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT IN A JERKY MANNER. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND ARRANGED TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT ON 8-7. *TR
DRIVING TO WORK ON TOLL ROAD, 65-70MPH. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE STALLED, LOST POWER STEERING. HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PUT IN PARK, TURNED OFF IGNITION, RESTARTED. RESUMED DRIVING TO WORK. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID NOT HAVE TIME TO CHECK MY VEHICLE THAT DAY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON UNTIL MID-AFTERNOON THAT DAY. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF AND WILL NOT TURN BACK ON FOR A WHILE. OTHER INCIDENTS WHERE THE IGNITION WILL NIT WORK AT ALL, THE CAR CAN BE COMPLETELY OFF AND THE BACK WINDOW WILL AUTOMATICALLY OPENED. WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING ALL THE LIGHT BEGIN TO TURN ON AND OFF IN THE CAR. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DINGS AND VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP, I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT STEERING WAS LOCKED UP. ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. IN THE SUMMER OF 2014, I WAS REVERSING AND MY 2007 JEEP COMMANDER TURNED OFF TWICE. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY SINCE THEN. MY JEEP TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING UP TO 30 MILES AN HOUR, AND WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT, AND/OR A STOP SIGN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SOMETIMES TURNS ON, BUT NOT ALWAYS WHEN JEEP TURNS OFF. SOMETIMES IT MAKES A 'HUFFING PUFFING' NOISE LIKE IT'S STRUGGLING TO STAY ON (BEFORE IT ACTUALLY TURNS OFF). IT ALWAYS TURNS ON RIGHT AFTER, BUT I HAVE NOTICED IT MAKES A LOUD SQUEAKY SOUND WHEN IT TURNS ON AFTER I CRANK IT. THAT SQUEAKY SOUND, SOUNDS LIKE THE SOUND IT MAKES WHEN SOMEONE TRIES TO CRANK ON THE VEHICLE AFTER VEHICLE IS ALREADY BEEN ON. THE CHRYSLER RECALL CENTER MAILED ME A RECALL P41 NOTICE LAST SUMMER/FALL IN 2014. I TOOK IT TO THE CHRYSLER JEEP DEALERSHIP IN MCALLEN, TEXAS FOR RECALL P41 SERVICE AT THAT TIME. I'VE TAKEN MY JEEP TO SEVERAL MECHANICS SINCE THEN, BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICEMEN AT DEALERSHIP SAID TO KEEP CHECKING IN WITH THEM TO SEE IF THEY HAVE THE PART. THEY SAID PROBLEM IS NOT RELATED TO RECALL P41...AND KEEP ADVISING ME OF OTHER POSSIBLE PROBLEMS. I'VE FIXED ALL OF THE POSSIBLE PROBLEMS SUGGESTED, AND YET THE 'TURNING OFF' STILL CONTINUES! THE SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALERSHIP, AND THE CHRYSLER RECALL CENTER PEOPLE KEEP TELLING ME THAT CHRYSLER HAS NOT MADE PART AVAILABLE, AND FOR ME TO REMOVE ANY EXTRA KEYS FROM THE KEY RING, AND TO CONTINUE DRIVING ME JEEP UNTIL THE PART IS AVAILABLE. CHRYSLER WILL THEN MAIL ME NOTICE OF RECALL PART AVAILABILITY. I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR! IT IS VERY SCARY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY IN AN UNRELIABLE VEHICLE!! I DON'T FEEL SAFE.
MY SITUATION BEGAN ON JUL 10, 14 WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING WHILE DRIVING. SINCE THAT TIME, THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN STALLING AND QUITTING ON THE HIGHWAY/CITY STREETS AND SPUTTERING ALONG EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. THIS VEHICLE STOP RUNNING ON ME WHILE DRIVING 65 TO 70 MPH AND I HAVE TO PULL OVER TO RESTART IT. THIS IS AT A STANDSTILL AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED WHILE COASTING. ANOTHER TIME I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND THE MOTOR DIED WHEN I APPLIED THE GAS PEDAL. EVEN WHILE TURNING ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY HAS GIVEN ME SCARY MOMENTS. EVEN WHILE AT A STAND STILL, THE ENGINE HAS DIED ON ME. THESE INCIDENTS THAT I HAVE DESCRIBED HAVE HAPPENED TO ME AND MY WIFE MORE THAN ONCE FOR EACH SITUATION THAT I MENTIONED HERE. TO THE BEST OF MY JUDGEMENT, MY SITUATION IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE SITUATION HERE IS THAT THE ENGINE SPUTTERS/STALLS AND QUITS ON ME WHILE DRIVING. THE CAUSE TO ME IS UNKNOWN SINCE I AM NOT A MECHANIC. AS STATED, THIS STARTED JUL 2014 AND HAS BEEN ONGOING TO DATE.

VEHICLE LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING DASH LIGHTS ALL FLASH ABS TRIPS ON AND OFF
MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES OF THE IGNITION BEING TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE LEARNED NOT TO HANG ANYTHING FROM THE KEY WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE IT IS TOO EASY FOR A KNEE TO BUMP THE KEY AND TURN OFF THE CAR. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME FOUR TIMES AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. IT SHOULD BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR WORSE. *TR

THE VEHICLE IS WORKING PROPERLY AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL NOT START AND I GET MULTIPLE GAUGE NOTIFICATIONS POPULATE INCLUDING CHECK GAUGES, TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP. THIS TIME IT WILL NOT START AT ALL, I HAVE TRIED TO START IT EVERY DAY MULTIPLE TIMES AND IT WILL NOT START. THE SAME MESSAGES ARE STILL POPULATING, THE BATTERY IS GOOD, I HAVE A BRAND NEW STARTER, THERE IS FUEL. THE VEHICLE POWERS UP, I CAN OPERATE EVERYTHING BUT THE VEHICLE WON'T EVEN TRY TO TURNOVER. *TR
I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM CHRYSLER AWHILE BACK THAT A DEFECT ON MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED. IT WAS A CASE OPENED IN JUNE, 2014 BY NHTSA FOR PE14017. CHRYSLER SAID NO SOLUTION HAD BEEN IDENTIFIED AT THE TIME THEY SENT THE LETTER BUT THE LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR WOULD REMEDY THE DEFECT WITHOUT CHARGE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME. THE LOCAL DEALER HAS NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM CHRYSLER. I DON'T KNOW WHAT "REASONABLE TIME" MEANS BUT WANTED TO ASK YOU HOW LONG YOU THINK I SHOULD NEED TO WAIT BEFORE A SOLUTION TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WHICH CHRYSLER SAYS "MAY EXPERIENCE UNINTENDED CHANGE IN IGNITION SWITCH POSITION WHILE DRIVING WHICH MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKING ASSIST INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND DISABLING ONE OR MORE OF THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY FEATURES INCLUDING THE FRONTAL AIRBAGS." VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. RADIO AND HEAD LIGHTS WILL GO ON. ALL YOU WOULD HEAR IS A CLICK. CHECKED BATTERY AND STILL WILL NOT START. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND NOTHING SHOWED UP. THE MECHANIC HAD IT FOR A TWO DAYS AND IT STARTED. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED TWICE. LOOKED ON LINE AND NOTICED OTHER PEOPLE HAD SAME PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE NOT STARTING. ALSO, HAVING WATER COME IN THROUGH THE SIDE DOOR HANDLES. I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THESE PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED EDITION 4X4 IN CITY TRAFFIC DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WHEN IT STALLED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THIS STALLING AND ENGINE LIGHT WARNING HAS SINCE HAPPENED AT LEAST 100 MORE TIMES OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS. DEALER AND INDEPENDENT MECHANICS ARE UNABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM. THE MOST RECENT EVENT HAPPENED ON 6/8/14. COMPLETE ENGINE STALL ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED 65 MILES TO HOME TOWN. MECHANIC REPLACED ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY. ENGINE STARTED FINE, RAN WELL FOR 2 DAYS AND THEN ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON WITH INTERMITTENT STALLING AND ROUGH IDLING. JEEP IS AT DEALER AS WE SPEAK. DEALER STATED THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WILL KEEP THE VEHICLE OVERNIGHT AND TRY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM TOMORROW. *TR

AT THE SOUTH PADRE ISLAND I GOT STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE DO TO MY 4X4 TRANSFER CASE NOT ENGAGING ON LOW GEAR. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE DO TO AN UPDATE BY THE DEALER N23 TO JEEP COMMANDERS, BEFORE THIS UPDATE MY COMMANDER ALWAYS WORKED PERFECTLY. I GOT CONCERNED DO TO HAVING MY FAMILY WITH ME, WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN 9 AND 11. I AM GOING TOMORROW TO THE JEEP CAR DEALER TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
VEHICLE HAS TURNED OFF MULTIPLE TIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAUSING NEAR FATAL COLLISIONS, DASH BOARD WOULD LIGHT UP COMPLETELY AND BLINK ON AND OFF AS IF THE KEY WERE TURNED OFF AND ON. WE MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE FROM THE KEY TO OUR KNEES AND WE HAVE NEVER ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE IGNITION. WE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN APPROX. 15-20 TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR AND THE MOST RECENT TIME LAST WEEK WITH BOTH OUR 8 AND 9 YEAR OLDS IN THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN YOU TRY TO START, IT WOULD TURN OVER AND CLICK, BUT NOT START. AFTER ABOUT 10 TIMES, IT WOULD FINALLY START. MY MECHANIC CHECKED THE BATTERY ( WHICH WAS ABOUT 3 MONTHS OLD) AND IT WAS GOOD. HE CHANGED THE STARTED AND STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. PUT IN ANOTHER STARTER, ASSUMING THE PART WAS BAD. STILL HAD SAME PROBLEM. JUST REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. CAR STARTED THIS MORNING AT HIS SHOP, BUT WOULD NOT START UNTIL I ATTEMPTED TO START IT ABOUT 10 TIMES AND IT FINALLY STARTED. AN INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEM. *TR
