DRIVERS STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT REASON WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO IMPACT OR REASON FOR DEPLOYMENT. POSSIBLE TAKATA RECALL. - AIRBAGS WILL NOT INFLATE - CAR NEEDS A 'CLOCK SPRAY SENSOR'
I CALLED LAST 8/9/18 TO BROUGHT THE ATTENTION ON WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY VEHICLE. I RECEIVED A RESPOND FROM NHTSA DATED 8/28/18. PLEASE REVIEW YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM FROM MY REPORT. THERE IS ADDITIONAL PROBLEM THAT I JUST EXPERIENCED RECENTLY WHEN WE HAVE A SEVERE STORM HAPPENED LAST 8/10/18 THE SUN ROOF WAS LEAKING AND IT FLOODED THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR. I HAVE TO CLEAR THE WATER AND OPEN ALL THE DOORS TO LET IT DRY AND APPLIED ANTI MOLD DISENFECTANT TO PROTECT OUR HEALTH. ALSO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM DISCONTINUED WORKING. THE SYSTEM MONITOR FAILED. DEALER WAS ASKING $ 800.00 TO FIX MONITOR SYSTEM. SOME OF THE ISSUES IN THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT BROUGHT TO THE DEALER DUE TO I HAVE NO FUNDS TO PAY FOR THE SERVICE. NOT ALL PEOPLE HAVE A SUBSTANTIATE FUNDS ESPECIALLY I'M OUT OF JOB. I WAS NOT SURE IF I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE WE BOUGHT IT USE. WHEN WE BOUGHT IT THE MILEAGE WAS 125000 MILES. I'M NOT SURE THE HISTORY OF THIS VEHICLE. I SUGGEST THAT YOU MIGHT FIND THAT INFORMATION THROUGH THE DEALER. AS I RECOLLECT MY PAST COMPLAINTS WAS, WHILE DRIVING 40 MILES (MPH) THE SPEED SUDDENLY REDUCED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WARNING SENSOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT WOULD ERRONEOUSLY CHANGE POSITIONED WHOLE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION TO THIS BOTH SEAT BELT AT THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE WAS NOT WORKING SO PASSENGER CANNOT ACCESS IT WHILE TRAVELING. WHEN I TURNED ON THE HEATER NOR AIR-CONDITION THERE WAS A ROARING SOUND COMING FROM THE AIR-CONDITION VENT ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS TURNED ON HIGH. AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN AT 5 MPH INTO AN INTERSECTION, ANOTHER VEHICLE FAILED TO YIELD AND CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE ROLLED OVER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED; HOWEVER, THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE NECK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRANHAVEN JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM (348 W MAIN ST, BRANFORD, CT 06405) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000.
THE LATCH ON THE 2ND ROW PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT FELL APART AND IS UNUSABLE. THE LATCH ON THE 2ND ROW DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT IS MALFUNCTIONING. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS ACCEPT THE SEAT BELT AND IF IT DOES, WILL NOT RELEASE WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT FORCE MAKING IT ALSO UNUSABLE. NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE NO SEAT BELTS IN THE 2ND ROW (EXCEPT FOR SMALL CENTER SEAT) BUT THIS IS ALSO CAUSING THE AIRBAG WARNING INDICATOR TO COME ON & OFF WHILE DRIVING.

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
SEAT BELT ALARM IS MALFUNCTIONING. EVEN THOUGH THE SEAT BELT IS BUCKLED, THE ALARM CONSTANTLY GOES OFF WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND A HIGHWAY. IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT'S A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING. IT ALSO ENCOURAGES THE DRIVER TO TAKE OFF THEIR SEAT BELT TO SEE IF THEY CAN DEACTIVE THE SENSOR BY HAVING TO REBUCKLE AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FLIP OVER. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT FULLY DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE TWO INJURIES SUSTAINED THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 230,000.
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHOWING THE AIRBAG LIGHT SINCE I PURCHASED IT. FIRST THEY REPLACED THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER TRYING TO GUESS PROBLEM BUT IT DID NOT FIX IT BUT IT WENT AWAY FOR A WHILE. NOW THEY BELIEVE THEY FOUND TRUE PROBLEM AND IT'S THE CLOCK SPRING. I BELIEVE THE ITEM WAS DEFECTIVE SINCE NEW PURCHASE AND NOW IT COMPLETELY GO BAD. I HAVE NO AIRBAGS AND I'M DRIVING AROUND BAD BECAUSE JEEP INSTALLED A DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRING ON MY 08 JEEP. THEY HAVE A RECALL ON 07 JEEPS BUT MY 08 IS NOT PART OF IT. HOPEFULLY YOU CAN ADD OUR 08 JEEPS COMMANDER TO THAT LIST.
GOING TO STRAP THE GRAND CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT THE SEAT BELTS LOCK UP COMING OUT BEFORE FULLY PULLED OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. EVEN HAS HAPPENED TO ME A FEW TIMES ON FRONT DRIVERS SEAT. TODAY STRAPPING THE GRAND CHILD IN IT LOCK WHILE SHE WAS SEAT BELTED IN. WE WENT TO UNDO THE SEAT BELT AND IT WOULD NOT GIVE ANT SLACK TO UNDO BELT.WE HAD TO SLID HER OUT OF THE SEAT BELT IN ORDER TO GET HER OUT. ONE TIME BEFORE SHE STARTED SCREAMING WHILE WE WERE DRIVING BECAUSE THE SEAT BEAT HAD GOTTEN EXTREMELY TIGHT ON HER. I HAD A HARD TIME GETTING HER OUT. SHE HAS BECOME SCARED OF THE SEAT BELTS. I,M GETTING WORRIED MYSELF.
AIR BAG LIGHT BEGAN COMING ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY, WHETHER DRIVING OR STATIONARY, EVENTUALLY STAYING ON MOST OF THE TIME. PERIODICALLY WHILE DRIVING IT WOULD GO OFF THEM IMMEDIATELY COME ON AND CHIME. TOOK TO A CHRYSLER DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS IT WAS FAULTY AND WOULD NOT DEPLOY THE AIR BAG IF INVOLVED IN A CRASH. RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THIS MODEL AS WELL AS RECALLS FOR 2007 TO 2010 JEEP WRANGLERS WHICH HAVE THE SAME STEERING SYSTEM. CLOCK SPRING WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED BY DEALER FOR A SIGNIFICANT COST, CORRECTING THE PROBLEM.

1) THE SEAT BELT CASING BREAKS AWAY FROM THE SEAT BELT MAKING IT DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO INSERT AND CONNECT SEAT BELT INTO RECEPTACLE. 2) INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE (REAR PASSENGER) SUDDENLY QUIT WORKING, NOT ALLOWING PASSENGER TO EXIT VEHICLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR OTHER NECESSARY EMERGENCY EXIT SCENARIO. *TR
