THE GAS TANK GAUGE STOPPED FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IT WILL READ EMPTY WHEN FULL & STARTED TO GO UP DESPITE BEING LOW. HAVE TO USE TRIP MILEAGE TO DETERMINE WHEN TO FILL UP NOT BEST METHOD. BUT GAUGE IS NOT ACCURATE OR RELIABLE. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME BUT I SEE THIS IS A RELATIVELY COMMON PROBLEM & HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN.
I BOUGHT MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS BRAND NEW. I NEVER OFF-ROAD AND I TRY TO DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY AVOIDING POT HOLES. I WAS HEARING THIS WEIRD NOISE AND BROUGHT IT IN TO A DEALERSHIP TODAY. THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO REPLACE THE LOWER CONTROL ARM COSTING ME SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. AFTER SEARCHING ON THE WEB AND SEEING ALL THE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I AM CONVINCED THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. JEEP NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING THIS IS NOT RIGHT. THIS IS A REPAIR THAT SHOULD NOT BE NEEDED ON SUCH NEW VEHICLES.
I RECENTLY HAD MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS IN TO DEALER TO CHECK OUT WHY VEHICLE WAS HANDLING IMPROPERLY . FOUND OUT I NEEDED $3000 OF FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION PRTS INCLUDING CONTROL ARMS FRONT AND BACK WHEEL BEARINGS X 4 ,BALL JOINTS THE WHOLE BIT IN RESEARCHING THIS I FIND I AM ONE OF POSSIBLY THOUSANDS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS ON THE SAME YEAR JEEP COMPASS. I HAVE BEEN LOYAL TO CHRYSLER EVEN AFTER OWNING A NEON WITH MANY PROBLEMS BUT THIS IS DEFINATELY THE LAST CHRYSLER DODGE OR JEEP PRODUCT I WILL EVER PURCHASE. THIS VEHICLE IS SIMPLY A LEMON AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
I BOUGHT MY JEEP COMPASS LESS THAN A YEAR AGO WITH 42,000 MILES. ITS NOW ABOUT 10 MONTHS LATER AND I HAVE 46,000 MILES ON THIS JEEP (I.E. I DON'T DRIVE IT A TON) I HAVE DONE ZERO OFF ROADING AND I ALWAYS TRY TO AVOID POTHOLES AND BAD ROADS. TOOK IT IN TO INVESTIGATE SOME LOUD NOISES COMING FROM FRONT... ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT MY LOWER CONTROL ARMS HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO BAD BALL JOINTS, OUTER TIE RODS ON BOTH SIDES IN THE FRONT, AND NEW BRAKES AND FRONT LEFT ROTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I FIND THESE PROBLEMS TO BE ABSURD, CONSIDERING THE AMOUNT OF MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. ALL OF THIS COSTING OVER $1000 TO REPAIR. JEEP NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND CLEARLY RECALL THESE ISSUES. I AM NOT HAPPY AFTER READING ALL OF THE SIMILAR PROBLEMS OF OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS; AND IT MAKES ME EVEN MORE UPSET TO LEARN THAT MOST OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE RE-OCCURRING WITHIN 2-3 YRS. LAST SUMMER, I HAD TO HAVE MY FRONT OUTER TIE ROD ENDS REPLACED AT 65,000 MILES. AT THAT TIME I HAD NEW BRAKE PADS INSTALLED. A FEW MONTHS LATER, I STARTED GETTING VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL UPON BRAKING AND I ALSO WAS TOLD I HAD UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALER; THEY ALLIGNED IT. THEY NEVER TOLD ME THAT THE STEERING VIBRATION MAY BE CAUSED BY BAD BALL JOINTS. THE STEERING PROBLEM DIDN'T ENTIRELY GO AWAY AFTER THE ALLIGNMENT; IT STEADILY GOT WORSE. I FINALLY TOOK IT TO AN INDPEPENDENT MECHANIC YESTERDAY AND THEY TOLD ME I NEED NEW BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS IN THE FRONT. I ALSO NEED ONE NEW ROTOR AND THE OTHER ROTOR TURNED. (THIS IS AFTER I HAD NEW BRAKE PADS INSTALLED ABOUT EIGHT MONTHS AGO AND THE ROTORS WERE FINE AT THAT TIME). I WAS QUOTED $663.56 FOR THIS WORK THAT INCLUDED ANOTHER ALLIGNMENT. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 50,000 MILE TIRES ONCE AT $600.00 AND TWO MORE TIMES ON THE FRONT AT ABOUT $350.00 EACH TIME. THE VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 107,000 MILES ON IT TODAY. MY COMPLAINTS ARE 1). I DRIVE WITH A TWO YEAR OLD IN THE CAR FREQUENTLY. THIS IS A BLATANT SAFETY RISK THAT JEEP IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS AND THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RECALL. AND 2)., THE MONEY THAT I'VE HAD TO SPEND ON THIS CAR-REPLACING FRONT BRAKE PADS, NEW ROTORS, BALL JOINTS, CONTROL ARMS, TIE ROD ENDS AND TIRES IS RIDICULOUS. I DON'T HAVE MUCH FAITH IN THE DEALERSHIP SINCE THEY DIDN'T IDENITIFY THE BALL JOINT PROBLEM WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE. I MAY NEVER BUY ANOTHER JEEP PRODUCT AND I WILL CERTAINLY TELL ANYONE THAT ASKS THE EXPERIENCE THAT I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. *TR
TOOK 2007 JEEP COMPASS IN FOR OIL CHANGE, MENTIONED RATTLING NOISE IN FRONT END. MECHANIC FOUND THAT BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS/BALL JOINTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. JEEP ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND GUESS WHAT WARRANTY EXPIRED! TOTAL REPAIR COSTS ~ 700 DOLLARS. NO RECALL AS OF YET, BUT THERE SHOULD BE CONSIDERING COUNTLESS OTHER COMPASS OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. *TR
PURCHASED 2007 JEEP COMPASS IN 4/2010. IT IS NOW JULY AND I HEAR CLICKING IN BACK WHEN I BRAKE AND THE FRONT CLICKS ALSO. I BROUGHT IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY TOLD ME I ALSO HAVE BALL JOINT ISSUES. I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THE SAME THING. WHAT'S GOING ON. MY CAR ONLY HAS 46,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING WHEN AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR FACILITY WHERE HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE LOOSE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE STATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF FACTORY WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
2007 JEEP COMPASS. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE AND TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED TWO OF THE THREE JEEPS SHE OWNS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. DURING HIGH SPEED DRIVING, ON HOT DAYS THE AUTOMATIC TRANSXALE OIL BECAME EXTREMELY HOT, AND THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN SLIGHTLY UNTIL THE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE COOLED DOWN ENOUGH TO ALLOW A RETURN TO THE REQUESTED SPEED. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LOW DUE TO A LEAK IN THE TRANSMISSION PAN. *JB UPDATED 01/31/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIE RODS AND SUSPENSION SYSTEM WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
2007 JEEP COMPASS RALLYE EDITION WITH 37,000 MILES. THERE WAS A METALLIC CREAKING / CLUNK FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, AND HAD IT INSPECTED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC . BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE FOUND TO BE BAD WITH EXCESSIVE PLAY...BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED W/ NEW. ENGINE OIL PUMP ALSO FAILED @ APPROX 15,000 MILES AND CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AFTER A MONTH OF WAITING.. *TR
2007 JEEP COMPASS IN LINE OF SLOW MOVING CARS. ACCELERATOR STUCK CAUSING COMPASS TO HIT MOTORCYCLE, WHICH THEN STRUCK VEHICLE IN FRONT. MAY HAVE BEEN RECALL FOR COMPASS, FOR THIS DEFECT, NOT RECEIVED BY OWNER IF SO. *TR

FRONT END WOULD SHAKE WHEN COASTING AT 40 MPH. TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERS WITH 44,179 MILES AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE FRT LOWER CONTROL ARMS LEFT OUTER TIE AND RT INNER TIE ROD CAUSE THEY WERE ALL WORN OUT. SO THEY REPLACED THEM ALL. ALL NEW PARTS AND $1034.00. *TR

IN 1/20/10 I BROUGHT ME JEEP COMPASS IN BECAUSE OF NOISE FOUND OUT THAT I NEED STRUTS FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS OUTER TIE RODS A WHEEL ALIGNMENT IT CAUSE ME OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS NOW 4 MONTHS LATER I HAVE MORE ISSUES WITH THE CAR SO I BRING IT BACK NOW THEY SAID THAT I NEED BALL JOINT SWAYBAR SWING BAR AND BEARINGS AND THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS ETC THIS IS GOING TO COST ME 1300 NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT I NEVER HAD A CAR THAT HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS MY CAR HAS ONLY 29000 MILES ITS 3 YEARS OLD WHY DOES IT NEED THIS MUCH WORK EVEN THE MECHANIC SAYS THIS CAR HAS ALOT OF ISSUES WHIT THE FRONT END AND STEERING AND SUSPENSION AND I OWNED OTHER CARS THAT ARE OLD AND HAVE NOT ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR EXCEPT THE REPLACING BRAKE PADS AND OIL CHANGES THERE HAS TO BE AN ISSUE THAT I THINK SHOULD BE LOOKED AT WHY THESE PARTS ARE FAILING SO SOON THANK YOU. *TR
STARTED HEARING A TIRE NOISE AND CLUNKING WHEN TURNING OR GOING OVER BUMP. TOOK IT TO MY SERVICE MAN. CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. DANGEROUSLY BAD LOWER BALL JOINTS. HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES DUE TO THIS AND TIRE HAS STARTED TO SEPARATE DUE TO THE LOOSENESS OF THE TIRE. I HAVE THE DEFECTIVE BALL JOINTS. MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS HAS 41,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. MULTIPLE VEHICLES HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM YET NO RECALL. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS 2003 THROUGH 2006. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM COULD BE LIFE THREATENING IF THE WHEEL COMES OFF. I WAS LUCKY. *TR
2007 JEEP COMPASS WITH 41,000 MILES. TOOK IT IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND TO INVESTIGATE CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END. MECHANIC DISCOVERD LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARMS/BALL JOINTS BADLY WORN. COST TO REPAIR...$900. *TR
TOOK 2007 JEEP COMPASS IN FOR OIL CHANGE. MECHANIC SAID THAT CAR WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AS BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS NEEDED REPLACED AND WERE SO LOOSE THAT THEY MAY CAUSE ACCIDENT. BECAUSE OF COST OF REPAIR, TOOK CAR TO JEEP DEALER FOR SERVICING TO GET A SECOND OPINION. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS DO NEED REPLACED AND THAT THEY ARE DANGEROUSLY LOOSE. CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. REPAIR ESTIMATE IS $935 ALTHOUGH I'M TRYING TO NEGOTIATE SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT WITH THE CAR. *TR

LOSS OF CONTROL WHERE THE CAR JERKED AS IF I HAD HIT A PATCH OF ICE (IN THE SPRING WITH 50 WEATHER) ANYTIME I STEERED TO THE LEFT. HAVE HAD THE BALL JOINTS/CONTROL ARMS REPLACED 4 TIMES SINCE. *TR
I WENT TO GET A STATE INSPECTION FOR MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4, IT HAS 48,000 MILES ON IT AND I WAS TOLD THAT BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE WORN OUT, UPON FUTHER INVESTIGATION IT WAS FOUND THAT THERE WAS LITTLE OR NO GREASE IN THE BALL JOINTS. AFTER SEARCHING FOR REPLACEMENT BALL JOINTS I FOUND MY ONLY OPTION AT THE TIME WAS TO BUY TWO USED CONTROL ARMS FROM A JUNK YARD, THE BALL JOINTS ON THESE CONTROL ARMS WERE ALSO VOID OF GREASE.. AFTER TALKING WITH OTHER OWNERS OF JEEP COMPASS 4X4 I HAVE FOUND THAT ALL 5 OF THE OTHER OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES IN THIS AREA HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE BALL JOINTS, ALL OF THEM WERE ALSO UNDER 5,0000 MILES. THIS IS UNACEPTABLE, BALL JOINTS SHOULD LAST A LOT LONGER THAN THIS AND WOULD IF THEY HAD ADEQUATE GREASE AND GREASE FITTING WHERE GREASE COULD BE ADDED TO THE BALL JOINTS. JUST SO WE ARE CLEAR, THE BOOTS COVERING THE BALL JOINTS WHERE THE GREASE SHOULD BE WERE IN PERFECT CONDITIONSO THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM WITH SOMETHINGS BE TORN OF MISUSED. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC TO HAVE THE FRONT END CHECKED BECAUSE OF CLUNKING NOISES ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE FRONT LEFT LOWER BALL JOINT/CONTROL ARM IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. I'VE ALREADY REPLACED BOTH OUTER TIE ROD ARMS (AT 75,000 MI). THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT BOTH PROBLEMS ARE A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON ALL JEEP MODELS. THE REPAIR WILL COST $509.00 . AS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, I WOULD REQUEST THAT NHTSA PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS ON JEEP COMPASSES. *TR
MY WIFE'S 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4 LTD WAS TAKEN TO OUR LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP IN EDGEWOOD, MD FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. A MECHANIC ON DUTY NOTIFIED US THAT IN ADDITION TO THE OIL CHANGE, WE WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE BALL JOINT (LOWER) REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS "LOOSE". THE MECHANIC DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM AS SOMETHING SERIOUS THAT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF IMMEDIATELY SINCE THE WHEEL COULD FALL OFF IN EXTREME CONDITIONS. LESS EXTREME CONDITIONS WERE DESCRIBED TO US AS LEADING TO A POSSIBLE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THE MECHANIC ALSO MENTIONED TO US THAT THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE JEEP COMPASSES HE HAS WORKED ON. WE TOOK IMMEDIATE ACTION TO FIX THE CAR TO KEEP IT DRIVABLE BY HAVING THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE BALL JOINT THE FOLLOWING DAY - SAFETY WAS OUR PRIMARY CONCERN. WE TOOK STEPS TO CONTACT CHRYSLER'S CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS TO SEE IF THIS WOULD BE SOMETHING THEY WOULD CONSIDER REPLACING SINCE OUR CAR WAS BEYOND WARRANTY (61,000 MILES) - THEY DISMISSED OUR CLAIM AND WOULD NOT REIMBURSE US FOR THE WORK DONE OR THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. HAVING DONE SOME RESEARCH, IT SEEMS MOST JEEP MODELS FROM 2007 THROUGH 2009 HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING BALL JOINT PROBLEMS LEADING TO RECALLS - THE COMPASS IS NOT YET ON THE RECALL LIST. A BALL JOINT FAILING AFTER 2 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR AND ALL HIGHWAY MILES (NO OFF-ROADING, NO CITY DRIVING, NO BUMPY ROADS, ETC.) JUST SEEMS VERY ABSURD TO US. THIS SEEMS TO ME LIKE IT?S MORE OF AN ISSUE WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS PLACED IN THE COMPASS THAN AN ISSUE OF WEAR AND TEAR. THE CONSEQUENCES OF A FAILURE SUCH AS THIS WHILE MY PREGNANT WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. IF THE MECHANIC ON DUTY IS SEEING THIS PART FAILURE IN MORE THAN ONE COMPASS, IT COULD MEAN A BIGGER PROBLEM EXISTS, PRESENTING A DANGER TO MANY COMPASS OWNERS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS! *TR
WHILE TRYING TO STOP ON SLIPPERY SURFACES 3 OUT OF 5 TIMES MY ABS IS NON EXISTENT AND MY WHEELS LOCK UP I FIRST NOTICED THIS IN DECEMBER 2009. LAST NIGHT I WAS DRIVING ON A ICY SNOW COVERED ROAD. I WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN, I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE I WAS STOPPING. I GAVE THE PEDAL MORE PRESSURE AND I STARTED TO FISHTAIL ALMOST COLLIDING WITH A PARKED VEHICLE. THE NEXT STOP SIGN I CAME TO ABS WORKED FINE. AFTER THAT MY WHEELS LOCKED UP. THIS VEHICLE IS A COMPLETE JOKE. ALSO NOTE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH GOOD SNOW TIRES. *TR
MY JEEP COMPASS 2007 WENT IN TO HAVE THE TWO FRONT TIRES REPAIRED. THE REPAIR MAN FOUND THAT MY LOWER BALL JOINTS AND LEFT OUTER TIE ROD WERE "TRASH". THE LEFT SIDE HAD FALLEN APART. I CALLED JEEP TO SPEAK TO THEM IN REGARDS TO THIS AFTER CHECKING IT OUT ONLINE TO FIND THAT MANY JEEP COMPASS OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY THE EQUIPMENT THEY ARE USING OR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE PUTTING THEM TOGETHER ARE NOT EITHER FAULTY OR NOT WELL DONE. THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. JEEP DID OFFER TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR IN THE "EVENT THAT IT TRULY WAS A DEFECT". THE PROBLEM IS MY JEEP IS NOT A CHRYSLER DEALER AND WHERE IT'S AT AND THE CONDITION IT IS IN, IT WOULD COST ME NEARLY $500 PLUS TO GET TO ONE. WITH THAT JEEP WOULD NOT HELP ME. I AM STUCK PAYING FOR THE REPAIR OF A VEHICLE THAT HAS FAULTY PARTS AND WORKMANSHIP. THIS IS NOT A SINGLE EVENT... AND I ASK THAT YOU FORCE JEEP CHRYSLER TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS DEFECT. I WILL BE GETTING MY CAR REPAIRED RIGHT WHERE IT'S AT, BUT I WILL BE PURSUING JEEP LEGALLY THROUGH THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE, BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU ECT UNTIL THIS MATTER IS RESOLVED. *TR

THE EVENT INVOLVED DRIVING AT MODERATE SPEEDS IN A SMALL CITY ENVIRONMENT 25-30 MPH. I HAD JUST TURNED FROM A BUSY STREET INVOLVED WITH CONSTRUCTION TO ANOTHER BUSY STREET AND NEEDED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, SO I FIRMLY PRESSED DOWN THE GAS PEDAL, BUT INSTEAD OF GOING FASTER, I HEARD A LOUD SNAP AND THE MAIN (DARK GRAY PLASTIC!) PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR, LEAVING ME VULNERABLE TO TRAFFIC--WHICH POLITELY BACKED OFF WHEN I UNEXPECTEDLY SLOWED DOWN IN FRONT OF THEM. AFTER TURNING ON THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A SAFE PLACE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, AND CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE. I WAS ABLE, AFTER SOME EXPERIMENTATION, TO FIND A ONE INCH STUB OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL OVER THE POTENTIOMETER, WHICH I WAS ABLE TO USE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE PEDAL, ON INSPECTION, HAS A FACTORY BUILT-IN CIRCULAR AND TWO TRIANGULAR HOLES THAT PENETRATE THE SHAFT--THE BREAK OCCURRED HERE--AND TWO GROOVES BESIDE THESE HOLES. I HAD TO PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT ACCELERATOR ASSEMBLY--SAME FLAWED DESIGN--WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THIS ITEM AND IT WAS INSTALLED 6/5/09 AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. AT MY REQUEST, I OBTAINED THE ENTIRE DAMAGED PART. I HAVE BOTH PIECES, AND CAN PHOTOGRAPH THEM IF REQUESTED, OR CAN MAIL THEM TO SOMEONE FOR INSPECTION. MY ISSUE IS THAT THIS ITEM'S FAILURE COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A COLLISION IF THE OTHER DRIVERS HADN'T POLITELY SLOWED TO ALLOW MY EMERGENCY PULL-OVER TO TAKE PLACE. IT ALSO IS A STRUCTURAL WEAKNESS THAT COULD RENDER THE VEHICLE NON-DRIVABLE AT A MOMENT'S NOTICE. THE ENTIRE PEDAL BROKE OFF COMPLETELY WITHOUT ANY INTERMEDIATE PARTIAL BREAKAGE TO WARN ME THIS WAS COMING. I BELIEVE THIS PEDAL ASSEMBLY SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH A REDESIGNED PEDAL WITHOUT THE STRUCTURAL WEAKNESS I DESCRIBED ABOVE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE ADJUSTER SPECULATED THAT THE STEERING SYSTEM MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.

THE COMPLAINT IS ON 2007 JEEP COMPASS WITH SUNROOF OPTION. THE SUNROOF IS NOT INSTALLED APPROPRIATELY AND WHEN IT RAINS, AND THE SUNROOF DRAINS GET CLOGGED, THE WATER LEAKS INTO THE CAR THROUGH THE MAP LIGHTS AND AS WELL THROUGH THE FLOORBOARDS OF THE CAR.
