OUR 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS BEEN HAVING REAR END PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST 1 1/2 YEARS. IT STARTED AROUND 45,000 MILES AND WE HAD A CERTIFIED MECHANIC "PATCH IT UP IN NOVEMBER OF 2003. HE SAID IT WAS A REGULAR PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES AND WE WOULD NEVER HAVE THE NOISE GO AWAY. THE NOISE HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US NOT TO DRIVE THE JEEP ANYMORE BEFORE MAJOR REPAIRS ARE DONE ON THE RING AND PINION GEARS AND PIONION BEARINS, A COST OF $1200. WHY ARE THESE VEHICLES NEEDING THIS MAJOR WORK DONE AT ALL, MUCH LESS AT 45,000 MILES ANE NOW 80,000? THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND FIXED BY THE MANUFACTURER - OBVIOUSLY THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR - SUBSTANDARD PARTS OR WORKMANSHIP HAVE TO BE INVOLVED.*AK
NO HEAT FROM PASSENGER SIDE OF 2000 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE. BLEND DOOR ISSUE. *JB
WHILE RECLINING THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT THE RAIL WHICH WAS BOLTED TO THE SEAT ADJUSTMENT ASSEMBLY BROKE. THE CAUSE OF THE METAL BREAKING HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *NM
AUTOMATIC LOCKS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT OCCUPANTS WILL BE UNABLE TO GET OUT IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. *AK
PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR FAILED TO OPEN EITHER AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY. DOOR WAS EQUIPPED WITH CHILD SAFETY LOCK. *AK
THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT FRAME WAS BROKEN. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE SEAT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED BY THE DEALERSHIP. IF WE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT THE DRIVER WOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD BECAUSE THE THE FRONT SEAT FRAME WAS BROKEN. THIS PART WAS NOT EVEN COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WE PURCHASED FROM THE DEALERSHIP. WE HAD A 100,000 MILE -0- DEDUCTABLE WARRANTY. WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE SAFETY RELATED PARTS THAT THE DEALERSHIP SAID SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I BOUGHT MY JEEP 6 MONTHS AGO. IT NOW HAS 79000 MILES AND I HAVE NO CLUE HOW MANY TIMES THE PREVIOUS OWNER CHANGED THE ROTORS. I ALSO HAVE THE PROBLEM OF A VIBRATING UNCONTROLLABLY WHEEL WHEN I START TO BREAK AT 30 MPH OR OVER. I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO CHANGE MY FRONT ROTORS AND THEN DEAL WITH IT AGAIN IN 20,000 MILES. I FIND THIS TO BE RIDICULOUS. *AK
COMPLAINT REGARDING PROBLEMS WITH 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE.*MR THE VEHICLE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WOULD NOT WORK. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH SHORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE NEXT DAY THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE DEALER THEN DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE JUNCTION BOX WHICH WOULD COST $760,01 TO REPAIR. THE CONSUMER REFUSED SERVICE HOPING TO FIND INFORMATION ON SECRET WARRANTIES. *NM
THE FAILURE IS IN THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. THE FAILURE CAUSES THE AIR CONDITIONER TO ONLY BLOW COLD AIR. THE REPAIR WOULD COST BETWEEN $1500 AND $2500. *TR
WHEN LOCKING AND UNLOCKING DOORS WITH AND WITHOUT REMOTE,DOOR LOCKS ARE MAKING A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE. AND THEY FAIL TO UNLOCK. *AK
SUMMARY: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. SOME STEERING GEAR UNITS WERE ASSEMBLED WITH INTERNAL END-OF-TRAVEL-STOPS THAT MISSED THE HEAT TREAT PROCESS, RESULTING IN SOFT INTERNAL TRAVEL STOPS. CONSEQUENCE: THIS COULD RESULT IN STICKING, BINDING, OR SEIZING OF THE STEERING GEAR THERE IS ALREADY A RECALL ON THE 200O JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR THE STEERING BOX. I AM HAVING THIS PROBLEM AS WELL. AS A RESULT I DROVE OFF THE ROAD LAST NIGHT GOING AROUND A CORNER. I LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO SO I WAS LUCKY THIS WAS NOT IN A BAD SPOT. I WAS ABLE TO GO ONTO THE SHOULDER AND STOP. IT DID FREE ITSELF AFTER I REVVED THE ENGINE AND TURNED THE WHEEL. BUT NONE THE LESS THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY TELL ME I AM NOT COVERED BY THEIR RECALL. I FIND THIS LUDICROUS. IF THEY KNOW OF A ISSUE THEY SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. ESPECIALLY ONE THAT COULD RESULT IN SOME EITHER RUNNING HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, OR DRIVING OFF THE ROAD.
POWER DOOR LOCKS LOCK AND CANNOT OPEN DOORS. FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCKED 12/23/03 AND REAR DRIVERS SIDE LOCKED 1/11/04. YOU CANNOT GET THE DOORS OPEN BY ANY METHOD. *CB
ELETRONIC DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT OPERATE PROPERLY ON THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR SIDE. IT WOULD MAKE A LOUD WHIRRING NOISE WHEN TRYING TO ACTIVATE THE LOCKING SYSTEM. IT MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IN OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE. WE WERE LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NO EMERGENCY TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NOTICED A LARGE AMOUNT OF OTHER SITUATIONS REGARDING THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT.*AK
VENTILATION SYSTEM BECAGN TO ACT IRREGULAR AND THEN DID NOT WORK AT ALL. DEFROST AS WELL AS OTHER VENT USES WERE OF NO USE TO THE DRIVER DURING THE WINTER/COLD WEATHER HERE. THE DEALER TECH TOLD ME IT WAS A RESISTOR THEAT MELTED THE HARNESS. TECH SAID HE NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THEY NEEDED TO ORDER THE PARTS TO FIX, MEANWHILE I AM WAITING TO SPEAK WITH THE SALESPERSON WHO SOLD MY FAMILY THIS VEHICLE.*AK
MY SISTER AND I WERE HIT FROM BEHIND ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. AND WHEN THE OTHER CAR HIT US, BOTH OUR SEATS BROKE.*AK
2000 JEEP CHEROKEE - BRAKE PULSATION - DEALER REFUSES TO CORRECT - BRAKES REPLACED, ROTORS RESURFACED 3X SINCE BOUGHT BY DEALER. *AK
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. OWNED IT 10 MONTHS AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERS 4 TIMES FOR BRAKE SHUDDERING AT LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS. *AK
THE 1999-2000 (AT LEAST) MODEL YEARS OF THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAVE A SOFTER METAL USED IN THE BRAKES. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO HAVE THE SENSATION THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP IN TIME TO AVOID A COLLISION. I EXPERIENCE THIS MYSELF. THE BRAKES WEAR UNEVENLY AND ALSO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LOPE OR BUGGY WHEN STOPPING. MY VEHICLE WAS IN FOR A MAJOR SERVICE YESTERDAY AND I ASKED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF ANY TYPE OF A RECALL. A FACTORY REP WAS PRESENT AT THAT DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME AND WAS ASKED ABOUT THIS SITUATION AND THEY WERE ADVISED BY THE REP THAT THERE WOULD BE NO TYPE OF RECALL AT ALL. WHEN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL STATED TO THE REP THAT HE/SHE WAS AWARE THAT THIS NEEDED TO BE FIXED, THIS PERSON'S RESPONSE WAS "NO I DON'T".*AK
VIBRATION I THE STEERING WHEEL DUE TO PULSING OF THE FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM.*AK
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. IN EARLY DECEMBER I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN MY ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY MECHANIC, WHO HAPPENS TO WORK FOR MIDAS. HE TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN RIGHT AWAY. BECAUSE I LIVE CLOSER TO MIDAS THAN ANY JEEP DEALER, AND BECAUSE OF THE SERVICE I HAVE RECEIVED IN THE PAST FROM JEEP/CHRYSLER, I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC. HE ADVISED ME I HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. I RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE FROM HIM AND HE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BE CONSIDERABLY MORE EXPENSIVE, I ALLOWED HIM TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETE, I TALKED TO MY MECHANIC AND HE ADVISED ME TO CONTACT CHRYSLER/JEEP AND ASK FOR REIMBURSEMENT. HERE IN LIES THE COMPLAINT. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, BOB DANCE JEEP IN ORALNDO, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP BECAUSE IT WAS MY FAULT I DROVE THE VEHICLE "HOT". I EXPLAINED THE REASONS I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AS OPPOSED TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD SO SORRY. I THEN TRY TO CONTACT THE WARRANTY PEOPLE FOR THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD I ONLY HAD A 3YEAR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY AND THAT I WASN'T ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE VEHICLE HAD 49,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF REPAIR. I ASKED IF I WOULD BE ALLOWED TO PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WAS RUDELY TOLD NO. THIS IS ONLY ONE EXAMPLE OF THE CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE RECEIVED SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE IN JULY 2000. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, TWO BATERIES, REPAIRED THE WINDOW WHICH DID NOT WORK AND HAD THE ROTORS CUT THREE TIME. WHEN I SPOKE TO CHRYSLER HEADQUARTERS, I WAS NOT SURPRISED TO RECEIVE THE SAME RESPONSE. I WAS TOLD BECAUSE THE WORK WAS DONE BY AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE,MIDAS, I WAS NOT ENTITLED TO ANY TYPE OF REIMBURSEMENT, PERIOD. I DON"T TRUST JEEP/CHRYSLER. I DON'T WANT THEM WORKING ON MY VEHICLE. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!
ON 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, 3 DIFFERENT DOORS HAVE FAILED AND YOU CAN'T OPEN THE DOORS UNTIL YOU REPLACE SOMETHING CALLED A "DOOR ACTUATOR." OF THE 5 DOORS ON THE JEEP, 3 HAVE FAILED AND 3 NEW ACTUATORS INSTALLED. 2 FAILED WHILE ON WARRANTY (12/2002) AND THE THIRD JUST FAILED, 12/2003. *LA
VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS ON SLIGHT INCLINE. CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. CHECKED AND MADE SURE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. IT WAS. STARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE BACK UP INCLINE. VEHICLE ROLLED BACK DOWN WHILE RUNNING. DROVE STRAIGHT TO A SPITZER JEEP DEALERSHIP. PUT VEHICLE ON LARGER INCLINE. VEHICLE WOULD NOT ROLL. SERVICE PERSON, DAN, TOLD ME TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND BRING IT BACK IF IT DID IT AGAIN.*AK
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. AFTER FOUR YEARS OF USE, THE DRIVER SEAT DISCONNECTED FROM THE METAL FRAME ATTACHED TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR SEAT AND THE METAL HAD TWISTED AWAY FROM THE BOLT ANCHORING THE DRIVER SEAT TO THE FLOOR. I ONLY WEIGH 190 POUNDS AND I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AFTER FOUR YEARS OF USE. IT IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AS THE DRIVER SEAT IS NO LONGER ANCHORED TO THE FLOOR. *AK
I HAVE A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2000. ABOUT THE END OF 2001 THE DRIVERS SEAT RAIL BROKE AT THE FRONT BOLT AREA CAUSING THE SEAT TO BE UNSTABLE AND DANGEROUS. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND, ALTHOUGH OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY REPLACED IT NO CHARGE. THEY WERE UNSURE WHY IT HAPPENED. NOW, THE WEEK OF 11-15-03 THE FRONT SEAT RAIL BROKE AGAIN IN THE SAME PLACE. I DRIVE LONG DISTANCES AND PUT A LOT OF MILES ON A VEHICLE. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $378. PLUS TAX TO HAVE REPAIRED. I ALSO TALKED TO A CHRYSLER REP ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEIR SEATS WERE MADE FOR AVERAGE SIZE PEOPLE ( I AM 275 LBS) AND THEY WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THE NEW UNIT WOULD NOT ALSO BREAK. I ASKED WHAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE AVERAGE SIZE AND GOT NO ANSWER BUT THAT HER HUSBAND WAS MY SIZE AND SHE CONSIDERED 275 TO BE AVERAGE BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT IS CONSIDERED AVERAGE BY HER COMPANY. WHEN THE FIRST UNIT BROKE I WAS ONLY 240. I TOLD HER THIS SEEM TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE UNIT BREAKING UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND I ASKED WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I HAD A REAR END COLLISION, IS THE ENERGY FROM THE CRASH GOING TO SEND ME FLYING THROUGH THE BACK WINDOW BECAUSE THE SEAT RAIL ISN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO KEEP FROM BREAKING? HER ANSWER WAS THAT THEIR SEATS WERE MADE TO NATION SAFETY STANDARDS. I FIND THIS PROBLEM UNNERVING THAT THE RAIL JUST BREAKS WITHOUT ANY UNDUE STRESS AND I AM BEING BLAMED FOR THE PROBLEM FOR MY SIZE. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING AND WONDER WHAT IS THE WEIGHT STANDARDS FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE SAFETY IN AN AUTOMOTIVE SEAT? PLEASE HELP. *LA
I HAVE A 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE. WITH 4.0L, AUTO TRANS., 4X4 SELECT TRAC. IT SHIFTS HARD TAKING OFF FROM A START. SEEMS LIKE IT DOUBLE SHIFTS WHILE INCREASING SPEED, GOES FROM 2ND GEAR TO HIIGH GEAR THEN BACK TO 2ND GEAR AND THEN BACK AGAIN ALL WITHIN A FEW SECONDS. I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHERE THEY EXPLAINED TO ME ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF AN O-RING SEAL THAT WAS TO SMALL AND TO REPLACE IT WOULD REQUIRE THE TRANSMISSION TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. VERY EXPENSIVE. I HAVEN'T HAD THE REPAIR COMPLETED YET. BEFORE I TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIR, HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AND OR ANOTHER FIX? *NM
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH AND WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, WHO INFORMED CONSUMER THAT A BRAKE PROBLEM WAS EVIDENT, DEALER REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *AK
BROKEN SEAT FRAME; DRIVERS SIDE SEAT FRAME IS BROKEN, AND WILL NOT MOVE FOWARD . ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS OF THE POWER SEAT WORK. I AM ONLY 225 LBS, HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN.AND I WILL NOT SPEND $900 AT THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS, FOR THE LACK OF QUALITY THAT WAS PUT INTO THIS AUTOMOBILE WHEN IT WAS BUILT. *AK

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN MAJOR SOLO HEAD-ON AUTO ACCIDENT, AIRBAG SYSTEM DID NOT WORK PROPERTY ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES, AND COMPLETELY FAIL TO FUNCTION CAUSING SEVERE BODILY AND NEOROLOGIC INJURIES TO MY SON. PLEASE HELP US ON THIS MATTER. THANKS.
I OWN A 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED . THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN THREE YEARS I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE IN FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS. I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEEROKEE WITH 52,000 MILES. TODAY I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE 4TH TIME TO HAVE THE ROTORS RESURFACED DUE TO WARPING. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ALSO REPLACED THE CALIPERS AND PADS ON THE FRONT AND BACK OF MY VEHICLE. THE DEALER IS VERY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND SAID IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THE BRAKES ARE RECALLED. IN THE MEANTIME, I AM DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE.*AK
I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LOREDO. CURRENTLY I AM EXPERIENCING SEVERE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. EVERYONE I KNOW WHO OWNS A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSION. MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 88,000 MILES. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE 3 OF THE LOCK LATCHES WITHIN SIX MONTHS. THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS JUST BRAKE FOR NO REASON AND ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TO BE REPLACED.*AK
RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR BEGAN MAKING A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN LOCKED. OCCASIONALLY, IT WILL NOT UNLOCK AUTOMATICALLY WITH THE REST OF THE DOORS, AND I HAVE TO REACH THROUGH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND SLIDE THE DOOR UNLOCKED. I HAVE CHILDREN, AND THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THERE WAS A SITUATION WHERE I NEEDED TO QUICKLY GET THEM OUT OF THE CAR. *JB
FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES IN 3 YEARS SECONDARY TO DANGEROUS AND EXCESSIVE VIBRATION AT BRAKING.*AK
I PURCHASED MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN 1999. I HAVE BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALER SERVICE FOR REPEAT MAJOR PROBLEMS. MY TIRE SQUEAKED LOUDLY WHILE DRIVING AND AFTER A YEAR OF NOT FINDING THE PROBLEM, AND FIXING WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS THE PROBLEM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED AND SOLVED THAT PROBLEM. DURING THE PROBLEM WITH THE SQUEAK THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD A PROBLEM AND THE SOLUTION WAS TO DRAIN AND REFILL THE 4WD TRANSFER CASE FLUID, I HAD THEM COMPLETE THE SERVICE. ALSO DURING MY CARGO DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN NEITHER WOULD THE WINDOW, THEY REPLACED THE LATCH LIFT. THE NEXT PROBLEM WAS THAT I WAS NOTICING SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH MY HOOD. I BROUGHT THAT TO THEIR ATTENTION AND THEY NOTICE A FLUID LEAK AND HAD TO REPLACE MY CYLINDER HEAD GASKET. THE SMOKE WAS STILL THERE AFTER THAT EFFORT AND NOW MY TRANSMISSION HAS WENT OUT. I NEED AN OVERHAUL TRANSMISSION THAT WILL COST $1800.00 BECAUSE NOW IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY MADE IT SEEM AS IF I DID NOT TAKE CARE OF MY VEHICLE. I PURCHASED A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO IN AUGUST 2000. YESTERDAY, MY TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WOULD JERK WHEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. TODAY, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD "TOO BAD," BECAUSE MY WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE GENTLEMAN THAT SOLD ME THE JEEP, WAS PLACED ON HOLD FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND THEN TRANSFERRED TO SOMEONE ELSE'S VOICE MAIL. MY JEEP IS 3 YEARS OLD AND HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT (TRANSMISSION FAILURE!!!--I'VE HAD VEHICLES FOR 10 YEARS WITH NO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND THREE TIMES AS MANY MILES). THE BUSINESS MANAGER STATED THAT SHE HAD SEEN VEHICLES WITH 3,000 MILES ON THEM FAIL (BETTER WATCH OUT). THE ESTIMATED COST TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION $1650. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW FOR RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS EVER SINCE. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND HAD TO GET THE FRONT ROTORS REPLACED AS THEY WERE WARPED. MY BACK WINDSHIELD WIPER HESITATES BEFORE STARTING. IT IS SOMETIMES HARD TO START AND THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE. STAFF AT THE DEALERSHIPS ARE RUDE AND UNRESPONSIVE WHEN NOTIFIED OF PROBLEMS. STAFF AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT REPAIRS ON MY JEEP FOR A WIRING PROBLEM WOULD TAKE 3 DAYS, AND THEY ORDERED THE WRONG PARTS AND KEPT MY JEEP FOR OVER 2 WEEKS (AND THEN I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK THE NEXT DAY DUE TO WIRING PROBLEMS). I ALSO HOPE CHRYSLER IS AWARE THAT THEY HAVE JUST LOST A LOYAL JEEP OWNER/FAN. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER JEEP AND WILL CERTAINLY NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. I PURCHASED MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHE. LAREDO BRAND NEW IN 2000. VIN # [XXX]. SINCE THAT PURCHASE WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKES. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED BEFORE IT HAD 12,000 MILES AND HAVE BEEN TURNED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. BRAKE PADS WEAR OUT AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN GET THEM ON. NOW ON 10-23-03, WE TOOK THE JEEP INTO A LOCAL SERVICE SHOP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. THEY INFORMED US THAT THE ROTORS NEED REPLACING AGAIN AND ALL FOUR WHEELS NEED PADS. THEY TOLD US THAT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM JEEP ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY CALLED THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND WERE TOLD THAT THERE IS A KIT AVAILABLE TO FIX THE ROTOR AND BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE KIT TO FIX THE PROBLEM WILL COST US $470.00. WE FEEL THAT THIS BRAKE PROBLEM IS JEEP'S FAULT THROUGH HAVING A POORLY DESIGNED BRAKING SYSTEM. THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE JEEP'S BRAKES AND ROTORS STARTED FROM THE FIRST DAY SOMEONE PURCHASED A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WE FEEL THAT WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE KIT. JEEP SHOULD MAKE THE KIT FREE OF CHARGE DUE TO THEIR KNOWING THIS PROBLEM EXISTED FROM DAY ONE. WE HAVE ALREADY PUT ENOUGH MONEY INTO TRYING TO FIX THIS BRAKING DEFECT. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHUTTERS VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 30MPH. BRAKES HAVE BEEN FIXED(?) SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT ONLY LASTS ~5,000 TO 7,000MILES BEFORE IT STARTS UP AGAIN. POWER LOCKS ON THE JEEP HAVE RECENTLY FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. UNLOCKING THE JEEP CAUSES A LOUD SCREACHING SOUND AND NOW 3 LOCKS FAIL TO UNLOCK LEAVING THE PASSENGER UNABLE TO GET IN OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED A HAZARDOUS SITUATION IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR AND THE OCCUPANTS WERE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE AT WORK. I HAD JUST TURNED LEFT INTO THE PARKING LOT AND HAD APPLIED THE BRAKE TO SLOW. I MOVED ABOUT FIVE PARKING SPOTS UP AND APPLYING MY BRAKE AGAIN TURNED INTO THE PARKING. DURING THIS TIME I HAD NOT TAKEN MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, ONLY DECREASED THE PRESSURE. WHEN I APPLIED PRESSURE TO COME TO A FULL STOP THE CAR SUDDENLY SOUNDED LIKE A JET ENGINE AND TOOK OFF, GOING THROUGH A BRICK WALL, TRAVELING ACROSS ABOUT TWELVE TO TWENTY FEET OF YARD AND PLOWED INTO THE SIDE OF A HOUSE. FUEL LEAK FOR A 2ND TIME. JUNE 2002 FULL TANK OF GAS LEAKING ALL OVER GARAGE WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION. DEALER SAID THE GAS TANK WAS WARPED AT THE TOP AND COULD NOT SEAL PROPERLY. EST $900. TO REPLACE TANK. 43000 MI. ON JEEP IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. ENDED UP PAYING $277. LABOR AND MADE THEM WARRANTY THE FAULTY TANK. AUG. 2003 FUEL LEAKING AGAIN FROM TOP OF TANK AND DRIPPING DOWN OFF UNDER THE TANK. DEALER SAYS THE FUEL PUMP IS OUT $628. TO REPLACE. JEEP OWNERS BEWARE. *AK
RECENTLY PURCHASED 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED, AND PAID TO HAVE THEM RESURFACED. THE ROTORS IMMEDIATELY WARPED AGAIN, AND I HAD ANOTHER SHOP REPLACE THEM WITH OEM ROTORS. THE VEHICLE STILL EXHIBITS UNSAFE BEHAVIOR UNDER EVEN MODERATE BRAKING CONDITIONS, AND I HAVE NO MONEY LEFT FOR ROTOR REPAIRS. I NOW FIND MYSELF AVOIDING BRAKING (RIDICULOUS I KNOW) IN ORDER TO ESCAPE THE NOISE AND VEHICLE SHAKING. DEALERSHIP STATES IT'S A COMMON RECURRING PROBLEM, BUT CHRYSLER WILL NOT RECALL. I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE LIGHT HAS NEVER WORKED SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT. I HAVE HAD IT "FIXED" SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT ONLY WORKS FOR A DAY OR TWO. I HAVE TAKEN MY 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE TWICE THIS YEAR FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE "ACTUATOR" AND THE DOOR LATCH. THIS AFFECTED BOTH DOORS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND IS NOW MOVING TO THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE LOCK WILL MAKE AN AWFUL SOUND WHILE LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. IT WILL EVENTUALLY FREEZE UP AND NEITHER LOCK OR UNLOCK. EACH TIME COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY ALTHOUGH PAID A DEDUCTIBLE. THE DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE ALL AT ONCE SINCE THEY HAVE NOT GONE "BAD" YET. THUS FAR ONLY 3 OUT OF 5 DOORS ARE DAMAGED. *LA
