TRANSMISSION MAKES LOUD NOISE WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE. PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT WHEN VEHICLE FIRST PURCHASED. DEALER TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT A ISSUE AND THAT ALL JEEPS MADE SOME NOISE WHILE SHIFTING TO REVERSE. NOISE BECOME MORE COMMON AND LOUDER/HARDER WITH TIME. *JB

2000 JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL, IT STARTED WITH NO HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND NOW THE DRIVERS SIDE IS BLOWING COLD AIR ALSO (NO HEAT). DEALER KNOWS ITS A ISSUE AND ITS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY.. (TEMP. CONTROL DOORS MADE OF PLASTIC) THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR DEFECTED PARTS AND DESIGN.... *TR
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. HAD TO PUMP TO GET BRAKES TO APPLY. FLUID LEVEL NORMAL. INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. *JB
THE BRAKE ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED THE FIRST TIME AT 12000 MILES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP THREE TIMES. THEREAFTER, EVERY 10,000 MILES THE ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER STATED THE ROTORS WILL NOT HOLD UP UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHILE DRIVING, THERE IS A STRONG VIBRATION UPON STOPPING THE VEHICLE. *AK
I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. EVERY 5000-7000 MILES, A SERIOUS VIBRATION ARISES WHEN BREAKING AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 50 MPH. I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM SERVICED 6 SEPARATE TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 54,000 MILES ON THE SPEEDOMETER. ALL BRAKE ROTORS AND CALIPERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED (MORE THAN ONCE), BUT THE PROBLEM KEEPS RECURRING. JEEP REPRESENTATIVES NO LONGER WANT TO DEAL WITH OR REPAIR THE PROBLEM.*AK
THE HYDRAULICS DON'T HOLD THE HOOD UP IN THE OPEN POSITION. HOOD CAME DOWN ON THE CONSUMER, BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO CATCH IT BEFORE ANY INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. DEALERSHIP SERVICED THE HOOD, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE HOOD STILL FALLS DOWN. HYDRAULIC ARMS DO NOT HOLD AND THREE IS NO SAFETY ARM SUBSTITUTE. *TC
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN 4 MONTHS AGO AND IT BEGAN LEAKING ANTIFREEZE WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH. I BROUGHT IT TO CREST LINCOLN WHERE I BOUGHT IT FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ASKED THEM TO LOOK AT WHY THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING. THEY INFORMED ME THAT DUE TO THE CAR BEING 3 WEEKS OVER THE WARRANTY, IF SOMETHING WAS INDEED WRONG THEY COULD NOT HELP ME UNLESS I PAID OUT OF POCKET CHARGES. I THEN BROUGHT THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT COULD BE THE THERMOSTAT. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS NOT OVER HEATING. THE PROBLEM: THE CAR IS STILL LEAKING IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE. TODAY IT WAS A CONTINUAL LEAK. I CALLED THE DEALER AND I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THEIR OWN COST. THE ENGINE IS POSSIBLY CRACKED BUT THEY WILL CHARGE ME $400 TO DO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND I WILL NOT ONLY HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THAT BUT ALSO THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR UNTIL I CAN SETTLE THIS WITH CHRYSLER OR THE DEALER. THIS PRICE WAS ESTIMATED AROUND $6000.00. THE CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 36,000 MILES ON IT.
I AM A INDEPENDENT USED AUTO DEALER IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. I JUST HAD A CUSTOMER, WHO BOUGHT A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4X4 WITH 48,000 MILES 4 MONTHS AGO, CALL ME TO SAY THAT THE TRANSFER CASE JUST EXPLODED AND DAMAGED THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. ON AT LEAST 3 PRIOR OCCASIONS I HAVE BOUGHT 99-00 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES FOR RESALE AND HAD TO REPLACE EITHER THE TRANSFER CASE OR THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IN ORDER TO SELL THE VEHICHLE DUE TO EXTREME HOWLING OR GRINDING NOISES COMING FROM THE DIVETRAIN. ALL OF THESE VEHICHLES WERE PURCHASED AT AUCTION FROM DAIMLER CHRYSLER FLEET SERVICES AT ADESA GOLDEN GATE AUTO AUCTION WITH FULL GUARANTEE. I WAS RECENTLY INFORMED THAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER FLEET SERVICES WILL NO LONGER ARBITATE THE SALE OF ANY MORE OF THESE VEHICHLES BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A FREQUENT OCCURANCE. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND ARE UNWILLING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. ALL OF THE VEHICHLES THAT I PUCHASED HAD LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON THEM AND AT LEAST ONE WAS UNDER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY LIMIT, BUT OVER THE 3 YEAR LIMIT. I HOPE THAT SOMEONE CAN LOOK INTO THIS, AS IT IS APPARENT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICHLE WHICH DAIMLER CHRYSLER IS OBVIOUSLY AWARE OF. THE ROTORS WERE WARPING AND CAUSED THE BRAKES TO WEAR PREMATURELY. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THE TRANSMISSION DISPLAYED SLIPPING AND THERE WAS A FLAT SPOT ON THE TIRE(S). *SC *JB
THE STEERING WHEEL STARTS SHAKING VEHEMENTLY WHEN BRAKING FROM SPEEDS ABOVE 50-55 MILES/HR. THIS SYMPTOM APPEARED SUDDENLY AND SEEMES TO GET STRONGER.

THE TRANSFER CASE FAILED AND CAUSED FRONT END TO LOCK UP.*AK
BOTH FRONT AND REAR ROTORS HAVE EXCESSIVE RUN OUT. EXCESSIVE ROTOR THICKNESS VARIATION GENERATED BY POOL CALIPER CENTERING CAUSING STEERING WHEEL SHAKE. BRAKES WERE REPAIRED 12/26/2000 AT 11,579 MILES AND AGAIN AT 21,915 MILES ON JUNE 13, 2002. TOOK IT IN AGAIN JULY WITH 30,700 MILES AND WAS TOLD IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND TOO BAD. I HAD BEEN ASSURED FROM THE BEGINNING THAT CHRYSLER KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AND WOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR CAR UNTIL IT WAS SATISFACTORILY REPAIRED. AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK WITH FUEL THE DRIVER COULD SMELL A STRONG GAS SMELL INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER MADE CONTACT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. PLEASE ADD ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *NLM
MY MOM BOUGHT A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, 2000. ON JULY 25 WE WENT INTO TOWN TO THE HARDWARE STORE, MY SISTER AND HER GRANDDAUGHTER STAYED IN THE CAR WITH THE AIR CONDIDTION ON AND THE ENGINE RUNNING. WE WERE (MOM AND I) GONE 7-8 MINUTES, AND WHEN WE GOT BACK IN THE CAR; PUT THE SEAT BELTS ON, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PUT THE JEEP IN REVERSE AND WE TOOK OFF BACKWARDS ACROSS THE NAYLORS PARKING LOT ACROSS THIRD STREET, UP AND OVER THE CURB, WENT BETWEEN TWO TREES INTO THE PARKING LOT BETWEEN THE FIRE STATION AND CITY HALL WHERE WE HIT A PARKED CAR AND THE PARKED CAR HIT A TELEPHONE GUIDE WIRE, WE HIT A TREE THAT FINALLY STOPPED US. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH POWERING UNCONTROLLABLY BACKWARDS WITH THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. THE WITNESSES STATED WE WERE GOING ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR BACKWARDS. I TRIED TO USE THE BRAKES BUT IT WAS OUT OF CONTROL. I REPORTED THIS TO CHRYSLER AND THEY DID AN INVESTIGATION DENYING MY CLAIM. *LA
BRAKES KEEP FAILING. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR IN 1999 I RETURNED TO THE DEALER COMPLAINING ABOUT HEAVY BRAKE PULSATION AT 30MPH. THEY TOLD ME THEY FIXED IT BUT IT CONTINUED DOING IT. I KEPT GOING BACK OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THE LAST TIME I WENT BACK WAS 3 WEEKS AGO, AND THEY AGAIN CHANGED THE BRAKES WITH NEWLY DESIGNED BRAKES WHICH SUPPOSEDLY WOULD HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID THEY WOULDN'T COVER THE BACK BRAKES B/C THEY HAD NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT AND THAT I DIDN'T NEED TO CHANGE THEM. I DROVE AWAY BUT THE CAR STILL PULSATES HEAVILY AS SOON AS I BRAKE IF I AM DRIVING OVER 20MPH. FURTHERMORE MY CAR'S ENGINE BROKE DOWN COMPLETELY AFTER 32000 MILES OR APPROXIMATELY 7 MONTHS AGO. THEY TOLD ME THE ENGINE FAILED B/C I DIDN'T CHANGE THE OIL FOR 10,000 MILES. THE MECHANICS REPORT STATED THAT THERE WAS WATER IN THE FUEL, BUT THEY STILL TOLD ME IT WAS MY FAULT FOR NOT CHANGING THE OIL. I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY B/C MORE THAN 36 MONTHS HAD GONE BY FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. CHRYSLER AGREED TO SUBSTITUTE THE ENGINE AND I HAD TO PAY $800. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A NEW CAR, DRIVEN FOR SUCH LITTLE MILEAGE (NOW ONLY 35,000 MILES AFTER ALMOST 4 YEARS) CAN HAVE ALL THESE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. I BELIEVE THE BREAKS ARE FAULTY AND AM NOT SURE HOW TO FURTHER DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. THE CAR DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME IT'S PERFECTLY SAFE TO DRIVE.*AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT STEERING PROBLEMS. THERE WAS A HONKING NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. INTERMITTENTLY STEERING WHEEL MADE A POPPING NOISE WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING, AND THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO GO IN THE LOCKED POSITION WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. DEALERSHIP DIDN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THESE PROBLEM,BUT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON EACH OF THEM. ALSO, FRONT DRIVE AXLE MADE A WINING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. *AK
IGNITION SWITCH WOULD LOCK UP AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN WITHOUT SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TURN IT INCLUDING PULLING OUT THE KEY AND EVEN TURNING IT OVER 2-4 TIMES.*AK
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4 V6. THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL WOULD PULSATE HORRIBLY AND SHAKE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THIS PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE FRONT ROTORS WHICH WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVENTHOUGH THERE ARE 2 TECHNICAL BULLETINS FROM JEEP COVERING THIS PROBLEM. DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS, CALIPERS, AND PADS AS SUGGESTED BY THE BULLETINS. #0500302 - COST OF THE REPAIR: $552.22.(2) DEALER INFORMED ME AFTER FIXING MY BRAKES THAT THE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAS A HIGH-PITCHED AXLE. THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY REAR DIFFERENTIAL WHICH NEEDS TO BE REDONE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. #0300302A - ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR $932.00, *AK
DT: THERE IS A SHIMMY WHEN BRAKING AND IT IS WORSE WHEN GOING OVER 40 MPH. THIS CAUSES THE ROTORS TO WARP AND THE BAKE PADS TO WEAR OUT FASTER. THE MANUFACTURER RECOMENDES THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS BE REPLACED WITH AFTER MARKET CALIPERS. *JB
COMPLAINT INVESTIGATOR, I PURCHASED A USED 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO IN AUGUST OF 2002. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, THE BRAKES WERE PULSING BADLY AND THE DEALER TURNED THE ROTORS. IN LESS THAN 12 MONTHS AND LESS THAN 10,000 MILES THE ROTORS ARE ONCE AGAIN PULSING VERY BADLY. SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS MODEL HAS BRAKE ISSUES. DOES CHRYSLER CORP. HAVE A SOLUTION FOR THIS? I HEARD THAT CHRYSLER WILL REPLACE THE BRAKES BECAUSE THE FACTORY ROTORS ARE INADEQUATE FOR THE VEHICLE UNDER SOME TYPE OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION EFFORT BUT WILL ONLY OFFER THIS OF THE CUSTOMER COMPLAINS VIGOURSLY. ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATUION THAT YOU COULD SUPPLY WOULD BE OF GREAT ASSISTANCE TO ME WHILE I ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. FYI - I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BUT ROTORS ARE A "NORMAL WEAR" ITEM. I WOULD AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT IF THE FACTORY ROTORS ORIGINALLY SUPPLIED ON THE VEHICLE WERE "NORMAL" AND THE FACTORY BRAKES WERE ADEQUATE FOR THE VEHICLE. IN MY OPINION, THE FACTORY SUPPLIED BRAKES SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER SOME TYPE OF DEFECTS IN MATERIALS OR WORKMANSHIP. MY RESEARCH HAS UNCOVERED THAT THE ROTORS ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. NO ONE HAS DIED FROM THIS THANK GOODNESS BUT I BELIEVE THAT THE CONSUMERS WHO HAVE PURCHASED THESE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AND SHOULD HAVE SOME TYPE OF RECOURSE IN THIS MATTER. VEHICLE HAS 24,292 MILES AND IT WILL NOT START ON FIRST TRY. LONG CRANKING TIME. DEALER SAYS IT NEEDS NEW FUEL PUMP MODULE AND WILL COST APPROX $500.00! APPEARS TO BE COMMON PROBLEM FROM NHTSA OTHER COMPLAINTS. DC REFUSES TO FIX AND REFUSES TO GIVE ME WRITTEN NOTIFICATION WHY NOT. ONLY VERBAL REFUSALS IN SPITE OF MY WRITNG THEM REQUESTING WRITTEN REFUSAL AND REASON FOR NO GOODWILL GESTURE ON THEIR PART. I PURCHASED A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LARADO NEW IN SEPTEMBER OF 2000. IN JUNE OF 2003 WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE. THE SEAT FRAME BROKE AWAY FROM THE TRACK RIPPING A PIECE OF METAL UNDERNEATH. THIS DID NOT OCCUR DURING ANY FORCEFUL ACTION AND I FEEL IT COULD BE AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD. CHRYSLER WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS. THE PART NUMBER THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IS 4856471 PER ESTIMATE I RECEIVED FROM CHRYSLER.
ON JUNE 26, 2003, MY WIFE CALLED ME STATING SHE COULD NOT GET OUR 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TO LOCK INTO PARK. THE SHIFTER WOULD GO INTO PARK, AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE SHIFTER BUTTON WAS IN A BIND (ACTUALLY THE RUBBER PIECE ON THE SHIFTER BUTTON HAD COME OFF AND LODGED IN BETWEEN THE SHIFTER STALK AND THE BUTTON). THIS IN EFFECT HELD THE BUTTON IN, NOT LOCKING THE SHIFTER INTO PARK. I FEEL THE ONLY REASON SHE KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WAS THE FACT THAT SHE COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION. I SIMPLY TOLD HER TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE, BUT HAD SHE EXITED THE CAR WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE SHIFTER WOULD HAVE VERY EASILY MOVED INTO ANY DRIVE GEAR WHICH COULD RESULT IN 1) VEHICLE DAMAGE, AND 2) GRAVE BODILY INJURY. WE LOVE THE JEEP, BUT FEEL THIS ISSUE IS HIGHLY UNSAFE.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. VIBRATION IS COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ROTORS ON MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE A 2ND TIME. THE 1ST TIME WAS AT 12,000 MILES. THEY AT 35,000 MILES THEY WENT BAD AGAIN. JEEP TOLD ME THEY WERE OUT OF WARRANTY AT 12,000. *NLM

FAILED TO INFORM ME AND ALSO TO DO THE BRAKE REPLACEMENT KIT RECOMENDED BY THE SERVICE BULLETIN. NOW THEY WILL NOT FIT THE ROTORS DUES TO THE MILEAGE ISSUE. EVEN WITH WORN BRAKES I HAVE NEVER HAD VIBRATION ISSUE LIKE THIS AND FRANKLY ITS A SAFETY ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT THIS POINT.

ADVISED BY TECHNICIAN AT JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS EXACT ISSUE FROM 1999 TO 2002 JEEPS. DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE AS STEERING WHEEL WILL BEGIN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. *NLM

MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS EXPERIENCED BRAKING FAILURES ON AS A RESULT OF FRONT ROTOR DEFECTS. ON TWO OCCASIONS THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPAIRED BY A JEEP DEALER. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE, THE ROTORS WERE EXCESSIVELY WARPED CAUSING SEVERE FRONT END VIBRATION THAT PRODUCED LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKING. IN THE SECOND INSTANCE, AND 15000 MILES LATER, THE CONDITION REOCCURRED. IN THIS SECOND CASE, THE DEALER FOUND THE ROTORS TO BE WARPED AGAIN AND REPLACED BOTH THE ROTORS AND THE CALIPERS. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER PLACED THE BLAME ON THE DRIVER, I HAVE HEARD OTHER YEAR 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS COMPLAIN OF IDENTICAL ROTOR FAILURES. 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE V8 - ENGINE STALLS OUT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY IN COLDER WEATHER (50 - 70 DEGREES F), BUT ALSO HAPPENS AFTER THE ENGINE IS HOT. STALLS WHEN FOOT IS OFF THE GAS AND SLOWING DOWN, BRAKING, ETC. IT USUALLY STARTS RIGHT BACK UP. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER WITHOUT POWER. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN ONE CHYYSLER DEALER 3 TIMES CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, ANOTHER CHRYSLER DEALER ONE TIME, AND A PRIVATE CERTIFIED MECHANIC. NONE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT TURN ON WHEN IT STALLS. NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES ARE STORED IN THE JEEP'S COMPUTER OTHER THAN THE NUMBER OF TIMES IT WAS RESTARTED. SINCE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, THE MECHANICS ARE UNABLE TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND DETERMINE IF IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED, BUT THEY REMAIN CAPABLE OF CHARGING LOTS OF MONEY FOR REPLACING PLENUM SEALS, CHECKING THE IDLE, FLUSHING THE TRANSMISSION, CLEANING FUEL FILTERS, TESTING TIME, REPLACING THE PCV VALVE, AND MORE. THE CAR STALLS AN AVERAGE OF ONCE EVERY 10 MILES, LESS IF I DRIVE WITH TWO FEET, KEEPING PRESSURE ON THE THROTTLE.*AK
I STARTED HAVING HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH THE VECHICLE AFTER ABOUT 5000 MILES. THE DEALER CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAS RETURNED - ONLY MORE EXTREME. I WAS RECENTLY DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP AND ALMOST LOST CONTOL BECAUSE OF THE FRONT END SHIMMY DUE TO ROTOR WARPAGE. THE FRONT END SHIMMY IS NOT AS EXTREME AT LOWER SPEEDS. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED.I HAVE ONLY 20,000 MILES ON THE VECHICLE.
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 4.7L 4X4. INTERMITTENT DELAYED ENGAGEMENT OF GEARS WHEN ACCELERATING. MAKES ROARING NOISE AS ENGINE INCREASES RPM WITHOUT GENERATING TORQUE. HAPPENS MOST BETWEEN 20 AND 50 MPH. ALSO, QUADRA-TRAK II 4 WD NO LONGER PROVIDES NOTICEABLE POWER TO THE FRONT WHEELS. REAR WHEELS KEEP SPINNING. DEALERS SAY EVERYTHING (PUMPS, FLUIDS, ETC.) CHECKS OUT, BUT FORMERLY OUTSTANDING 4WD PERFORMANCE IS EMBARRASSING AT BEST. *NLM

CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY VIBRATED/SHIMMIED WHEN DRIVING 65 MPH OR MORE. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK *NM
VEHICLE HAS 43000 MILES. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT SPEEDS OVER 50MPH FRONT END SHAKES MAKING THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKE ALMOST UNCONTROLABLY. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY AND THE MANUFACTORER WERE WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THERE WAS CURRENTLY NO RECALL. THEY STATED THAT THE FRONT CALIPERS WERE "CATCHING TOO LONG AND NOT RELEASING AT THE RIGHT TIME." DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO SAFETY ISSUE BUT THAT THE CALIPERS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE ROTARS. THEY WERE UNAWARE OF WHETER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD COVER THE CHARGES.

AT APPROX. 30,000 MILES THE CAR BEGAN VIBRATING WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED; THE DEALER TURNED THE ROTORS. AT 58,500 MILES, THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED; NOW THE DEALER WANTS APPROX. $541 TO REPAIR. I HAVE SPENT MORE ON THIS JEEP IN 2 YEARS THAN I HAVE SPENT ON MY 93 CHEROKEE IN 11 YEARS.
I HAVE HAD THE ROTORS RESURFACED TWICE, AND THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS REPLACED ONCE IN 19000 MILES. NO THAT THE WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT, THE DEALER IS VERY NASTY ABOUT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. IF YOU ASK ME, ANY PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES, STEERING, OR FUEL LEAKS ARE BOUND TO END IN CASUALTIES, IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY. NOW WONDER AMERICAN CAR COMPANIES HAVE TO OFFER 0% APR, IT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN SALE A LEMON. *NLM

BRAKE ROTORS WARPED AT LESS THAN 12,000 MILES. LOCAL DEALER TURNED ROTORS AT A LITTLE OVER 12,000 MILES. THE SEVERE VIBRATION STARTED AGAIN AT APPROXIMATELY 24,000 MILES . AT 38000 MILES I HAD FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED BY LOCAL INDEPENDENT GARAGE. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS IS A BAD PROBLEM YOU CAN BARLEY HOLD STEERING WHEEL. *JB
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT REQUIRES NEW ROTORS EVERY 18,000 MILES OR LESS. WHEN THE ROTORS START DETERIORATING THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES, SHIMMIES AND IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SEEMS AN UNNECESSARY EXPENSE FOR THE PRICE OF THE VEHICLE. ALL JEEP DEALERS WILL TELL YOU THEIR ROTORS ARE BAD, BUT I DON'T SEE ANY CONSUMER HELP OR IMPROVEMENT PROVIDED BY THE DEALERS. THEY AND CHRYSLER CORP. REFUSE TO PAY FOR THIS RECURRENT PROBLEM. *NLM
