2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. DRIVER'S SEAT IS BROKEN ON THE BASE/TRACKS. POOR DESIGN CAUSED BREAKAGE. VERY UNSAFE AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX THROUGH DEALERSHIPS. MY DEALERSHIP IS CLOSED AS WELL, SO IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND A REPLACEMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT WAS NOT SECURELY ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000. UPDATED 09/10/08. *LJ UPDATED 09/11/08.*JB
PARKED OVERNIGHT AND WHEN RETURN TO GET JEEP THE PASSENGER AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED. THERE WASN'T ANY COLLISION OR IMPACT. THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF THE GLOVE BOX HAD BEEN MELTED AND WIRES BURNED INSIDE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT AND OCCUPANTS EXITED THE VEHICLE. A FIRE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, 2000 MODEL, HAVE A COMMON FAILURE WITH THE BLEND DOORS IN THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THIS IS A WELL KNOW ERROR ON THESE CARS, AND HAPPENS WITH EVERY ONE OF THEM. I HAVE A DUAL VENTILATION SYSTEM THAT CONTROLS EACH SIDE OF THE CAR. *TR
WHEN I AM IDLING OR MOVING AT A SLOW SPEED MY TEMPERATURE WILL RISE CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO OVER HEAT. I'M ALSO LOSING COOLANT VERY FAST BUT CAN NOT SEE WHERE IT IS GOING. *TR
LITTLE TO NO HEAT. MAINLY I AM GETTING VERY LITTLE HEAT FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE (NOT BLOWING LIKE DRIVERS SIDE AND DRIVERS SIDE AS WELL AS PASSENGER SIDE NOT HEATING AS IT SHOULD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME USING THE A/C I SMELLED AN ODOR OF BURNING PLASTIC. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO INVESTIGATE AND NOTICED SMALL AMOUNTS OF SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH BOARD. WITH THE IGNITION OFF I FELT AROUND BEHIND AND BELOW THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND WAS BURNT BY MELTED PLASTIC FROM A SMALL BLACK COMPONENT (THE BLOWER CONTROL MODULE AS I FOUND OUT LATER). THE WIRES TO THE MODULE WERE VERY HOT, THE CONNECTOR HAD MELTED, AND AFTER LETTING IT COOL, THE A/C BLOWER WOULD NOT WORK. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT JEEP KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, HAS MADE REPAIR KITS AVAILABLE BUT WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM OR COVER COSTS, THE MODULE COSTS ABOUT $165, THE WIRING REPAIR KIT COSTS ABOUT $20, THE LABOR $80. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS OBVIOUS, WITH BURNING PLASTIC, FIRE, SMOKE, FUMES, AND POSSIBLE ACCIDENT IF THIS GOT OUT OF CONTROL WHILE DRIVING. HEALTH AFFECTS FROM THE SMOKE FUMES ARE INDETERMINATE AS OF NOW. I HAVE PURCHASED PARTS TO MAKE THE REPAIRS, AS WELL AS A PYROMETER TO MONITOR WIRE AND MODULE TEMPERATURE. *TR
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE -- SUDDEN ACCELERATION -- PULLED UP TO A GAS PUMP, STOP WENT TO SHIFT TO PARK AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. IF I HAD NOT QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE KEY I WOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH THE STATION. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4X4. ABOUT A YEAR OR MORE AGO, MY FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT BEGAN TO "WOBBLE"... IT WAS ONLY A VERY MINUSCULE AMOUNT AT FIRST, BUT HAS GRADUALLY INCREASED IN SEVERITY AND IS NOW A COMPLETELY BROKEN SEAT. THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT CAN COMPLETELY BE LIFTED UP ON ITS SIDE AND IS FULLY DETACHABLE. THE BRACKETS AND SEAT MOUNT UNDER THE SEAT HAVE BROKEN COMPLETELY AND THE METAL IS SNAPPED. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AS THE DRIVER SEAT MAY COMPLETELY DETACH SPORADICALLY DURING OPERATION. VISITING A BODY SHOP AT THE BEGINNING OF 2010 I WAS TOLD THAT REPLACING THE SEAT WOULD COST AT LEAST $500.00 AND THAT THE MOST COST EFFICIENT METHOD WOULD BE TO CONSIDER A REPLACEMENT SEAT FROM THE JUNK YARD. AS I BEGAN SEARCHING AROUND FOR SEATS, I BEGAN TO NOTICE A VERY STRANGE PATTERN: ALL THE JEEP'S WITH MY MAKE AND MODEL FROM ABOUT 1999 TO AT LEAST 2003 OR 2004 HAD THEIR FRONT SEATS ALREADY MISSING WITHIN A MATTER OF DAYS UPON THEIR INITIAL ARRIVAL TO THE JUNK YARD. IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND A DRIVER'S SEAT THAT WOULD FIT MY MAKE AND MODEL BECAUSE OTHERS AROUND THE COUNTRY WERE. CONFRONTED WITH THIS IRONY, I BEGAN TO SEARCH ONLINE FOR REMEDIES TO MY ISSUE AND TO SEE IF OTHER CONSUMERS HAD FACED SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR JEEPS. I WAS ASTONISHED AND DEEPLY DISTURBED TO FIND THEIR WAS A WEB PAGE FILLED WITH COMMENTS FROM OTHER CONSUMERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND IN SOME CASES, THE DRIVER'S SEAT HAD DETACHED DURING VEHICULAR OPERATION (FOR EXAMPLE, WHILE MAKING RIGHT TURNS). THESE COMMENTS DATED BACK TO 2007 AND MAJORITY OF THEM, IF NOT ALL, DEALT WITH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDOS FROM THE YEAR 2000. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND THERE IS A PROVEN TRACK RECORD OF THIS SEAT DEFECT. THE NUMBER OF CASES IS TOO LARGE TO BE IRONY. PLEASE ADVOCATE FOR A RECALL ON BEHALF OF CONSUMERS WHO ARE FACING THIS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP LAREDO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRACKETS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT FAILED. THE SEAT IS VERY WOBBLY AND UNSTABLE. THE DEALER WOULD ONLY PROVIDE A REPAIR ESTIMATE. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS FAILURE. HE HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIND A USED SEAT AS A REPLACEMENT; HOWEVER, THE ONES HE FOUND WERE ALSO FAULTY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
I WANT TO SEND A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS ON OUR 2000 JEEP. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 4 OF THESE DUE TO THE "QUACKING" SOUND THAT EVENTUALLY SHOWS UP. IT IS A VERY ANNOYING SOUND AND BESIDES THAT THE LOCK DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE. YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOOR. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. I AM REQUESTING A RECALL BE MADE FOR JEEP TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
JUST RECENTLY MY PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. YOU CAN NOT UNLOCK THEM UNLESS THE DRIVER GOES INSIDE FIRST. THE DRIVER MUST HIT HIS/HER LOCK THEN REACH OVER AND PULL ON THE LOCK TO UNLOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHEN TRYING TO EXIT THE CAR, THE DRIVER MUST HIT THE LOCK MECHANISM ON THE DRIVER SIDE TO UNLOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE. I HAVE TO DO THIS FOR BOTH PASSENGER SIDE DOORS. THIS IS A CONCERN DUE TO THE FACT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS AND THE PASSENGER CANNOT GET OUT THEN IT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS PROBLEMS. I KNOW I HAVE TALKED AND READ COMPLAINTS BY MANY OTHER OWNERS OF 2000 JEEP CHEROKEES AND IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THAT A RECALL BE ISSUED AND HOPEFULLY SOON BEFORE SOMETHING SERIOUS OCCURS TO SOME INDIVIDUAL. VENTILATION SYSTEM IS BLOWING COLD AIR EVEN WITH THE HEAT ON. *TR
BOUGHT THE 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTD BACK IN DECEMBER OF 2007. THE A/C WORKED GREAT. MOVED TO MIAMI, FL ON 01/08 , AND HAD TO START USING A/C ALOT. WHILE LEARNING THE VEHICLES HABITS. I NOTED THE A/C UNIT TO STOP WORKING WHEN ON. THE UNIT WOULD BE ON, AND THEN GO OUT, AND COME BACK ON. LIKE THERE WAS A SHORT SOMEWHERE. I ALSO SMELT A BURNING SMELL IN THE CAB. I STOPPED TURNING ON A/C UNIT ALL TOGETHER AT MY GRANDFATHERS REQUEST UNTIL I MOVED BACK TO NC ON 07/08. WHEN HE LOOKED AT THE A/C COMPONENTS; HE NOTED THAT THE "BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR" (LOCATED UNDER PASSENGER SIDE GLOVE BOX, AND BESIDE THE BLOWER UNIT )WAS MELTED SO BAD THAT THE WIRES AT THE 3 PRON FEMALE CONNECTOR WAS FRAYED/EXPOSE (WHERE HEAT MELTED/SHRUNK CONNECTORS AWAY FROM WIRES) LEAVING HOT WIRES TOUCHING ONE ANOTHER. THIS IN RETURN CAUSED WIRE EXPOSURE. THE "BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR" UNIT ENDED UP MELTING SO BAD IT WAS WARPED. THIS PART ALSO NEVER ONCE BLEW THE 40AMP FUSE UNDER HOOD FOR THE A/C UNIT.... OR ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER. I AM REALLY UPSET THAT MY VEHICLE COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO LIVE WIRES/MELTING PARTS/ LACK OF FUSE BLOWING. THIS IS A 125$ PART MINUS DEALERSHIP REPAIR. PART RELATED TO CHEROKEE "LIMITED"DUAL CLIMATE FUNCTIONS OF THE A/C DASH UNIT (AIR POSITION KNOB, AUTOMATIC DIGITAL TEMP DISPLAY,AND AIR FLOW FAN KNOB). THE PART IS REMOVED WHICH MEANS TO CUT WIRES TO DETACH THE PART. THIS MEANS THE NEW PART WILL HAVE TO BE REWIRED BACK IN. JEEP SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE ALL OF THE UNIT WIRES, AND PLASTIC CONNECTORS, AND FIND A WAY TO CONTROL THE MELT DOWN! PART UNFIXED DUE TO LACK OF MONEY TO REPAIR....! NO A/C IS BETTER THAN A BURNT CAR. (RIGHT????) OLD PART IS AVAILABLE AND A VERY COMMON PART TO BUY; RECALL IT JEEP! SOMEONE ELSE BEING SPOILED WOULD HAVE KEPT TURNING ON THE A/C FOR A BABY AND CAUGHT FIRE TO THE CAR. I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO THAT HAS MULTIPLE PROBLEMS THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE. THEY ARE NOT COINCIDENTAL. I HAVE THE MYSTERIOUS COOLANT LOSS THAT REQUIRES ME TO FILL MY JEEP WITH COOLANT EVERY THREE DAYS. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE NOT FOUND IN LEAKS. HOWEVER IN HOPES OF FIXING THE PROBLEM, I HAD MY WATER PUMP REPLACED, TWO DAYS LATER....MY LOW COOLANT INDICATOR POPS UP. THEN MY OIL PRESSURE IS RIDICULOUS GOING FROM ZERO TO MAX AND THEN MAKING MY CHECK GAUGES LIGHT COME ON. HAD THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY LEAKING....STILL HAVING MY OIL PRESSURE GAUGE GO CRAZY. MY A/C HAS CEASED WORKING AS WELL AND NOW THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR LOCK DOESN'T WANT TO COOPERATE. I AM VERY UPSET TO THE FACT THAT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THIS VEHICLE MUST BE RECALLED! BRAKE LIGHT ISSUES-WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE BEEN DOING, THE MANUFACTURER IS WELL AWARE THAT THERE IS A VERY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THESE LIGHTS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE, NOT "GO TO THE DEALER AND PAY THE RIDICULOUS RATES FOR REPAIR". *TR
PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FELL DOWN WHILE DRIVING. WILL NOT GO UP. HAVE NOT FIXED BUT UNDERSTAND PRICE FOR FIX IS AROUND $500. *TR
I HAD A MYSTERIOUS COOLANT LEAK FROM MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I HAD THE WATER PUMP CHECKED AND IT WAS FINE. I HAD TO ADD COOLANT AND WATER TO MY JEEP EVERYTIME I WENT SOMEWHERE SO IT DID NOT OVER-HEAT. I WENT TO WORK AND MY JEEP WAS STARTING TO OVER-HEAT. AFTER MY 8 HOUR SHIFT I PUT IN 2 GALLONS OF WATER INTO THE RADIATOR. IT SEEMED FINE UNTIL I GOT ABOUT A MILE FROM MY APARTMENT WHEN MY JEEP JUST STALLED OUT. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED BACK TO MY APARTMENT. I HAD A MECHANIC COME OVER AND HE THOUGHT I JUST BLEW A HEAD GASKET. AS HE WENT TO REPLACE IT, HE REALIZED THAT MY ENGINE HAD BLOWN UP BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, ALSO I STILL OWE 7000 ON IT. *TR
ALL 2000 GRAND CL V6 HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH NO RECALL. ENGINE OVERHEATS, LOSES COOLANT & CAN'T FIND LEAK. *TR

EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO WORK, BUT THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN AND WILL NOT RESTART UNTIL 10-15 MINUTES LATER. THE FAILURE IS WORSENING AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED; HOWEVER, THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 87,000.

WITHIN 2 WEEKS BOTH REAR BRAKE/TAIL LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. AFTER CHECKING ALL FUSES AND BULBS THE IT WAS FOUND TO BE A FAULTY GROUND CONTACT WITHIN THE LIGHT HOUSING DUE TO POOR DESIGN. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED BOTH FIXTURES AT MY EXPENSE SINCE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. AFTER IT HAPPENED A SECOND TIME 2 WEEKS LATER I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FINDING A REPAIR MESSAGE BOARD WWW.CARSURVEY.ORG/VIEWMORECOMMENTS_REVIEW_33943_11.HTML THAT ASSISTED ME IN IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM AND FIXING IT PERMANENTLY. AT THE END IS THE PROCEDURE IDENTIFIED ON THE WEBSITE.FEELING THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE (DRIVING AND FIRE HAZARD) I AM REPORTING IT TO ASSIST OTHERS TO FIX THE SITUATION AND MAKING DODGE/JEEP LIABLE FOR REPAIRS. 1REMOVE THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. MOST OF YOU KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY IF YOU'VE CHANGED BULBS, SO I WON'T COVER THAT. 2DISCONNECT THE WIRING HARNESS BY SLIDING THE RED LOCKING CLIP TO THE SIDE IN ORDER TO PRESS THE SIDE OF THE MALE CONNECTOR AND PULL APART. 3. ONCE YOU'VE GOT THE TAIL ASSEMBLY AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AND ON A BENCH, REMOVE THE LIGHT SOCKET FOR THE TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT. YOU WILL SEE 3 SILVER CONTACT POINTS INSIDE THE BLACK PLASTIC RING. 2 ARE GROUPED TOGETHER AND THERE IS ONE THAT IS OPPOSITE OF THE 2. THE ONE BY ITSELF IS THE GROUND; THE OTHER TWO ARE THE CONTACTS FOR THE TAIL LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT. THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE GROUND CONNECTOR. 4 CLEAN ALL CONTACTS WITH A Q-TIP AND SOME SORT OF CONTACT CLEANER. 5. YOU SHOULD NOTICE THAT THE GROUND CONTACT IS DEPRESSED INTO THE PLASTIC AND THE PLASTIC ITSELF IS SLIGHTLY WARPED DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO USE A SMALL PAIR OF NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS THAT HAVE A 45 DEGREE ANGLE TO PRESS UP ON THE CONTACT FROM UNDERNEATH USING THE OPPOSITE LIP OF THE HOLE AS LEVERAGE (VERY CAREFULLY).ONCE IT HAD MOVED UP A BIT, I WAS ABLE TO WEDGE A MINI-FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER IN BETWEEN THE METAL CONTACT AND THE PLASTIC TO FORCE THE CONTACT UP EVEN FURTHER. ONCE IT LOOKED EVEN WITH THE REST, GENTLY REINSERT THE CONNECTOR AND TEST. *TR
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FROM THE DEALERSHIP. ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO THE 4.0 LITER 6 CYLINDER ENGINE STARTED USING COOLANT AND CAUSING THE COOLANT LIGHT TO ALARM. THE OIL PRESSURE WOULD DROP TO "0" AND SOUND THE CHECK GAUGES ALARM. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC SHOP FOR COSTLY REPAIRS AND TROUBLESHOOTING. THEY REPLACED THE WATER PUMP, COULDN'T FIND ANY LEAKS, AND REPLACED THE OIL PUMP AND REAR MAIN SEAL. THEY CHECKED THE BEARING CLEARANCES AND FOUND THEM WITHIN TOLERANCE. THE CAR IS STILL USING ONE TO TWO PINTS OF COOLANT EVERY THREE DAYS AND THE OIL CONTINUES TO DROP TO "0" AFTER WARM-UP. WE REPLACE THE 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES AND ROTORS EVERY TWO YEARS. THE HOOD GAS SHOCKS WON'T HOLD THE HOOD UP AND THE SHOCKS COST $150 A PAIR FORM THE DEALER AND ONLY LAST ONE YEAR. WE TO HAVE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS THAT SCREECH AND DON'T LOCK THE DOORS AS WELL AS REAR LIGHT PROBLEMS THAT WORK OFF AND ON. THE EMISSIONS ARE MUCH HIGHER THAN NORMAL ON OUR RECENT SMOG TEST. THIS IS AN INDICATION THAT THE #3 AND 4 CYLINDER IS USING THE MYSTERIOUS ANTIFREEZE LOSS. AS A RETIRED MECHANICAL ENGINEER I ALSO BELIEVE THE OIL PROBLEM TO BE RELATED. MY WIFE HAS THE GRAND CHEROKEE AND I PURCHASED A TJ WRANGLER NEW IN 2000. I'M CONCERNED THIS VEHICLE WILL DEVELOP THE SAME PROBLEMS HAVING THE SAME ENGINE. WE HAVE INVESTED OVER $50 THOUSAND IN THESE TWO CARS. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO HELP US OFFSET THIS BURDEN. *TR

THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE DAYS LATER. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS, BUT NO CODES SURFACED ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND IS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IS HAVING PROBLEMS LIKE MANY OTHER PEOPLE. THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CONSTANTLY COMES ON AND I HAVE TO ADD COOLANT WEEKLY, ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO VISIBLE LEAK. MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL THIS PAST WEEK WHEN A MECHANIC TOLD ME THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO MY ENGINE AND MIXING WITH MY OIL. THE MECHANIC ESTIMATED I WILL NEED A COMPLETELY NEW ENGINE WITHIN A FEW MONTHS SINCE THE COOLANT-OIL MIXTURE HAS BEEN RUNNING THROUGH MY ENGINE FOR SOME TIME NOW. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE WILL STOP RUNNING IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. MY REAR LEFT BRAKE AND TAIL LIGHT GOES OUT WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKES. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE ROTORS AND FINALLY HAD THE MECHANIC REPLACE THEM WITH A DIFFERENT KIND. *TR
RECENTLY WAS TOLD, BY ANOTHER MOTORIST WHO FOLLOWED ME TO MY DRIVEWAY, THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. AFTER CHECKING THE USUAL DEFECTS (FUSES, BULBS, RELAYS) AND NOT FINDING ANY PROBLEMS I WENT ONLINE AND WAS SHOCKED TO FIND MULTIPLE POSTINGS RELATED TO BRAKE LIGHT FAILURES ON JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES (MINE IS A 2000) I WAS ALSO SHOCKED THAT DESPITE REPEATED POSTINGS ON THIS PROBLEM ,DATING BACK SEVERAL YEARS, THAT THERE IS NO SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS FLAW IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THESE VEHICLES THAT CAUSE BRAKE LIGHTS TO FAIL, LIGHTS THAT ALERT DRIVERS BEHIND YOU THAT YOU ARE IN THE PROCESS OF SLOWING/STOPPING. THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? ARE THEY WAITING FOR A TRAGEDY TO OCCUR BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING? THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ARE RESORTING TO HOMEMADE REMEDIES RATHER THAN PAY THE EXCESSIVE COST OF REPLACING A DEFICIENT ASSEMBLY SHOULD BE TROUBLING. I WON'T EVEN GET INTO MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL RANDOMLY WORKING, ALSO MENTIONED ON THE MESSAGE BOARDS. JEEP CAN CONSIDER ITSELF LUCKY THAT I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM BY ANOTHER MOTORIST, RATHER THAN AS A RESULT OF MY VEHICLE BEING REAR-ENDED BY A DRIVER UNAWARE THAT I WAS SLOWING. MY HUSBAND WAS INVOLVED IN A NEAR HEAD ON COLLISION. HE WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 10 MPH AND WAS HIT BY A VEHICLE GOING ABOUT 35MPH. HIS FENDER HIT THE CENTER OF OUR GRILL. CONSUMER STATES THE FAN WAS REPLACED IN JANUARY 2008 FOR THE SECOND TIME BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AND FEELS THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT NO COST SINCE IT WAS RECALLED PREVIOUSLY . *NJ THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR.
