NOTICED A DECREASE IN GAS MILEAGE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. ABOUT 1 MONTH AFTER RADIO WOULD POP LOUDLY GAUGES ON DASH WOULD ACT ERRATICALLY, DIGITAL MILEAGE SCREEN WOULD FLICKER, VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING OR SITTING AT A STAND STILL AND THEN RESTART ON ITS OWN. WHILE DRIVING AND IT STALLS YOU LOOSE STEERING, ANTILOCK BRAKES. CAR RETURNS TO NORMAL IDLE AND SYMBOLS STAY LIT ON DASH, (BRAKE, AIRBAG, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, ETC) BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP CODE PO123 SO REPLACED THE THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR SWITCH A. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT WOULD RESOLVE THE STALL. 2 DAYS AFTER REPAIR VEHICLE STALLED, INSTRUMENTS WERE ERRATICALLY GOING FROM 0-100 MPH 0 RPMS-? NO ANTILOCK BRAKES, STEERING, ETC. WHOLE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP WITH ALL INSTRUMENT LIGHTS LIT ON PANEL AND NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES WOULD POPULATE. AFTER THIS HAPPENS AND THE CAR IS SHUT OFF THE NEXT RESTART HAS A SLUGGISH RESTART. BATTERY WAS CHECKED MULTIPLE TIMES AND IS GOOD. OCCURRENCE IS ABOUT 8 TIMES A WEEKLY INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONSEQUENCES IS IT HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING, PUTS DRIVER IN DANGEROUS SITUATION DUE TO STALLING WHEN EVER IT DECIDES TO AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO ON POSTED FORUMS THIS IS DISCUSSED HEAVILY AND NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS VERY UNSAFE AND POTENTIAL DEADLY FAULT WITH JEEPS. THEY RECOMMEND TO REPLACE THE PCM BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS A 50% EFFECTIVE RESOLUTION AND DEALERSHIPS I CALLED HAVE STATED THIS ISSUE IS WELL KNOWN AND NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN SNAPPED AND I WAS LAYING IN THE BACKSEAT LOOKING UP. THE SEAT TRACK JUST BROKE. *TR
WHILE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF PASSENGERSIDE WINDOW FELL DOWN INTO DOOR. WHEN TAKEN APART PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE A BROKEN PLASTIC CLIP ON REGULATOR. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER WHILE DRIVING, I HEARD A LOAD POP NOISE AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW FELL DOWN INTO DOOR, AGAIN BROKEN PLASTIC CLIP ON REGULATOR. *TR
MY 2003 CHRYSLER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BLOWS ONLY COLD AIR ON PASSENGER SIDE. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED HEATER CASE REPAIRS FOR AROUND &1000.00. THIS IS NUTS AS JEEP IS AWARE OF THIS ON GOING PROBLEM AND SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. THEY DID ISSUE AN INFORMATIONAL TSB (#24-001-04) IN JANUARY OF 2004 FOR STRONGER PARTS CONCERNING THIS VERY PROBLEM. LETS TRY FOR A RECALL FOR ALL THE UNLUCKY PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO - DRIVER POWER SEAT. THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE SEAT IS BROKEN AND THE SEAT ROCKS. THE BRACKET IS DEFECTIVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY FOLLOWED BY THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG TWO SECONDS LATER. THERE WAS NO IMPACT, CRASH, BUMPS ON THE ROAD, OR SUDDEN BRAKING TO CAUSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO PARK AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. SHE EXPECTED THE FRONTAL DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY, BUT IT NEVER DID. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY OPENED AN INVESTIGATION; HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED AND THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 90,000. UPDATED 04-17-09 UPDATED 04/21/09. *JB
2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STALLS WHEN IDLING AT STOP LIGHTS, IT ALSO NEARS STALLING AND THEN LUNGES FORWARD WHEN IDLING. I WAS STUCK IN THE CENTER LANE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC LAST EVENING WITH MY 2YO IN THE BACK SEAT WHEN MY JEEP STALLED. THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON OCCURRENCE, IT HAS HAPPENED EVERY DAY FOR THE LAST MONTH. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS SITUATION; IT MAKES YOU FEEL AS IF YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER YOUR VEHICLE! I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SAT, BUT FROM COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ON COMSUMERAFFIARS.COM I AM NOT EXPECTING THEM TO BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING. OVERHEATING COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE OR INJURY. I WAS MADE AWARE IF THIS 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE RECALL BY A FRIEND WHO BOUGHT A USED 2003 JEEP GC. HE MENTIONED THE DEALER PERFORMED THE RECALL FOR THE SEAT HEATER. SEARCHING YOUR RECALL DATABASE I FOUND THE EXACT RECALL AS DESCRIBED TO ME. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AND FOUND THAT OUR VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. I THE CONTACTED THE NHTSA, WHO VERIFIED THE DEALERS FINDING. THE NHTSA SUGGESTED THAT I FILE A COMPLAINT TO HAVE OUR VEHICLE ADDED TO THE RECALL. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE AS DESCRIBED. THE SEAT WILL HEAT UP TO AN EXTREME TEMPERATURE, THEY NOW DON''T' WORK. WE GOT HEATED SEATS AS MY WIFE HAS LUPUS AND NEEDS THE WARMTH DURING COLDER WEATHER. HOW CAN WE GET OUR VEHICLE ADDED THE RECALL?? THANKS *TR
HVAC SYSTEM COMPONENTS FAILURE. 1) BLEND DOORS PLASTIC MOTOR STOP BROKE RENDERING THEM USELESS. NO HEAT IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. 2) RECIRC DOOR BROKE FALLING ON TOP OF THE FAN RENDERING THE DEFROSTER USELESS. UNABLE TO RUN DEFROSTER CREATING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE OF ENGINE RPMS BETWEEN 2000 AND 3000. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTING MOMENTS LATER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE TWICE BEFORE THE RPMS RESET TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED DAILY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
THE REGULATOR ON 3 OF THE 4 WINDOWS HAVE GONE OUT, HAVE THEM REPAIRED AT $400 PER WINDOW. THE ENGINE FAN WILL NOT TURN OFF AFTER STOPPING, UNLESS I PULL OUT THE FUSE UNDER THE HOOD, HAVE HAD THIS REPAIRED 2 TIMES AT AN EXPENSE OF $400 EACH TIME. CAR HAS 75,000 MILES AND IS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. *TR
THE HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM ON MY 2003 GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND IS AN INSULT TO THE OTHER QUALITIES OF THIS VEHICLE! THE INTERNAL DOORS THAT DIRECT AIR THROUGH THE SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY CHEAPLY MADE. MOSTLY PLASTIC-A VERY POOR GRADE! THE DEALER SAYS IT WILL COST CLOSE TO A $1000 TO REPAIR AND HE WOULDN'T GUARANTEE IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. I THINK CHRYSLER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SOMETHING THIS POORLY MADE. IT IS NO WONDER THEY ARE IN TROUBLE AND THE GOVERNMENT IS GIVING THEM BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO MAKE MORE INFERIOR JEEPS! THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED AND DOES NOT WANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

THE FAILURES OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE BLEND DOORS LOCATED IN THE HEATING UNIT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLS AND THE RPM'S BEGIN TO RISE SUDDENLY. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT BACKFIRE, JERK, OR MAKE NOISES. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE CONTACT MUST ACTIVATE THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND RESTART THE ENGINE. USUALLY, THE VEHICLE RESTARTS, BUT SOMETIMES IT TAKES 3 OR 4 ATTEMPTS TO RESTART. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, WHICH REMEDIED THE ISSUE FOR A FEW HOURS. THE FAILURE RECURRED THE SAME DAY SHE RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER. THE CONTACT IS SCHEDULED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT JUST WANTS THE DEFECT TO BE CORRECTED PROPERLY. SHE RESEARCHED THE FAILURE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THE ISSUE. SHE BELIEVES A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED FOR THE DEFECT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 88,442.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON THREE OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE OR PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.

MY 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS HAD THE WINDOW JUST BEGIN TO FALL INTO THE DOOR ON THREE OUT OF THE FOUR WINDOWS NOW AND IT IS USUALLY AT THE MOST DANGEROUS MOMENT POSSIBLE WHILE I'M ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON THE ROAD IN GENERAL. I TURN TO SEE NO WINDOW OR THE WINDOW MYSTERIOUSLY DOWN AND I AM UNABLE TO ROLL IT UP. THIS PRESENTS MANY DIFFERENT HAZARDS NOT ONLY TO THE VEHICLE ITSELF BUT, ALSO TO THE OCCUPANTS WHETHER IT IS A CHILD OR MY CANINE COMPANION THEY BOTH LIKE TO LEAN ON THE WINDOW AND LOOK OUT EVEN THOUGH A CHILD WILL HAVE A SEATBELT ON IF THE WINDOW FALLS DOWN AND THE CHILD FALLS OUT TOWARDS THE OPPOSING TRAFFIC STILL HANGING BY A SEAT BELT THIS IS NOT A SITUATION I AM WILLING TO RISK. AND I WILL LOSE MY PUPPY IF HE IS SITTING THERE NO DOUBT ABOUT IT HE WILL FALL RIGHT OUT AND IT ISN'T EASY TO LEAVE HIM AT HOME EVERY TIME I GO SOMEWHERE BECAUSE I'M AFRAID OF THE WINDOW FAILING AGAIN IT'S COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE. ALSO WITH THE WEATHER IT IS NOT VERY PRACTICAL TO PULL OFF OF THE HIGHWAY WHICH IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AREA ALREADY BUT TO TRY AND SOMEHOW PROP THE WINDOW UP ISN'T A SAFE SITUATION ANY WAY YOU LOOK AT IT. AS CARS WHISK BY AT UPWARDS OF 70 MILES AN HOUR I TRY AND FIX SOMETHING THAT CAN BE FIXED BY CHANGING ONE PART ON THE WINDOW REGULATOR. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,021. UPDATED 08/11/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. A PIECE OF RUBBER FROM THE AIR CLEANER WAS FOUND IN THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. UPDATED 08/18/2014 *JS
LOSS OF ANY AND ALL HEAT. STARTED WITH THE FAILURE OF THE BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. BLOW COLD AIR WHEN SETTING IS SET AT A HIGH TEMPERATURE. THEN THE RECIRCULATOR DOOR THAT FELL OFF THE SMALL HINGE AND DROPPED ON TOP OF THE BLOWER DISRUPTING THE FLOW OF ANY AIR THOUGH THE HEATING SYSTEM. THEN THE BLOWER ITSELF FAILED RESULTING IN NO AIR, HOT OR COLD, BEING PRODUCED. CURRENTLY NO HEAT OR DEFROST IS BEING PRODUCED RESULTING IN LIMITED VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING AND NO HEAT WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE TODAY IS AT 1 DEGREE ABOVE ZERO AND OVER A FOOT OF SNOW. *TR
THE HEATER IN MY 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND HAS FAILED DUE TO A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE TEMPERATURE BLENDER DOOR THAT PREVENTS HEAT FROM GETTING REDIRECTED ONTO THE WINDSHIELD TO DEFROST THE GLASS. CHRYSLER HAS TO MY KNOWLEDGE NOT ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE HERE IN MONTANA WHERE WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEE IN WINTER WEATHER. I WAS NEARLY IN AN ACCIDENT THIS MORNING WITH MY 6-YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR DUE TO THE WINDSHIELD FREEZING UP AND MY NOT BEING ABLE CLEAR THE GLASS. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL NOTICE TO FORCE CHRYSLER TO FIX THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. I AM SURE THERE ARE MANY OTHER JEEP OWNERS WHO HAVE FILED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. OCT 13, 2008 MY 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED, VIN # EXPERIENCED AN UNEXPLAINED DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, WHILE STOPPED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. I WAS UNHURT, BUT MY PASSENGER WHO WAS REACHING OVER TO SHAKE HANDS WITH A NEIGHBOR WAS SLIGHTLY INJURED (NO HOSPITALIZATION). INSURANCE, JEEP DEALERS, EXTENDED WARRANTY PARTIES WOULD NOT REPAIR BAGS. JEEP (CORPORATE) DID SEND INVESTIGATOR AND DID ARRANGE FOR AIR BAGS TO BE REPAIRED AT SPRING CHRYSLER JEEP IN SPRING, TX. THE DEALER, PER CORPORATE DIRECTIVE, REPLACED BOTH AIRBAGS AND SEAT BELT MODULES. THEY DID NOT REPLACE ANY WIRING HARNESSES, OR OTHER ASSOCIATED PARTS. THE DEALER DID NOT ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. THEY WERE DIRECTED TO SEND THE REMOVED PARTS TO CHRYSLER. SINCE THEY DID NOT OR WOULD/COULD NOT DISCLOSE TO ME THE DEFECT AND DID NOT REPLACE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, I AM VERY CONCERNED (SCARED) FOR MY SAFETY. AN UNCOMMANDED AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT (RARE OR NONE DOCUMENTED SINCE NO SEVERE INJURIES OCCURRED) COULD HAVE CATASTROPHIC CONSEQUENCES. THE SUV IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. NO HEAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. DEALER SAID THEY CHANGED THE BLEND DOOR AND RECIRCULATION DOOR AND ACTUATORS,ALL WITH IN 2 HOURS. THE JOB IS QUOTED AT 10 HOURS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHOLE DASH. SINCE THEY FIXED IT,3 DAYS LATER THE CODE FOR THE BLEND DOOR CAME BACK UP, AND THE DEALER COULD NOT TELL ME WHY. ALL THEY SAID WAS DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. *TR
I OWN A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH THE DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL AND THE BLEND DOORS OF THE HEATING SYSTEM HAVE FAILED CAUSING COOLED AIR OUT ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR WILL COST ANYWHERE FROM $300 (IF I DO IT MYSELF) UP TO $1500 FOR A DEALER TO FIX IT. THIS IS SUCH A HUGE UNDERTAKING THAT MOST IF NOT ALL OWNERS CAN NOT DO IT THEMSELVES. IN MY RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT AROUND 90% OF JEEP FROM 2000 TO 2004 HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT A SMALL ISSUE AND THE AUTO MAKER IS FULLY AWARE OF THE FAILING EQUIPMENT INSTALLED IN THESE VEHICLES. THERE EITHER NEEDS TO BE A RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM OR A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST THE DEALER. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND OVER THE SUMMER OF 2008. I LIVE IN MN AND IT IS RATHER COLD HERE. AROUND OCTOBER THE HEAT IN MY JEEP WHEN OUT, I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE "BLEND DOOR" THAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS AND ITS GOING TO BE $800 TO FIX IT BECAUSE REMOVAL OF THE DASH IS REQUIRED AND THERE IS A LOT OF LABOR FOR A PART THAT ONLY COSTS $50. I HAVE BEEN DOING MY RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR JEEP OWNERS AND IT IS ACTUALLY QUITE COMMON WHEN YOU REACH AROUND 60,000-80,000 MILES MY CAR HAD 74,000. MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR WENT UP AND MY WINDOW JUST FELL. I'VE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE REGULATORS IN THE JEEP LIMITED AND OTHER MODELS. I THINK THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE. *TR
I WAS GETTING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND AS I ACCELERATED THE GAS TO GET ON AND CHANGE LANES, THE JEEP BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN. THE BRAKES WERE HARD AND DID NOT WORK. THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AND I COULD HEAR IT REVVING. IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP I PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE AGAIN AND TRIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH ALSO DID NOT WORK. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT CAME TO A STOP. *TR
I JUST HAD THE VALVE STEMS REPLACED (DUE TO CRACKING) ON MY JEEP. THEY WERE CODED AS TR413 (OBVIOUSLY THE SAME DILL NUMBER COVERED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THESE TIRES AND VALVE STEMS WERE INSTALLED ON MY CAR IN DECEMBER OF 2005 - CLEARLY NOT MANUFACTURED DURING THE AUGUST-DECEMBER 2006 TIME FRAME OF THE RECALL. THIS RAISES THE QUESTION ABOUT THE DILL/CHINESE VALVE STEM PROBLEM BEING MUCH LARGER THAN HAS BEEN CLAIMED. I AM A RETIRED FORMER RUBBER CHEMIST, AND HAVE RUN HUNDREDS OF OZONE RESISTANCE TESTS ON RUBBER COMPOUNDS, SO I AM FAIRLY FAMILIAR WITH WHAT TO LOOK FOR. NHTSA SHOULD EXPAND ITS INVESTIGATION OF THIS PROBLEM. I KEPT THE OLD VALVE STEMS WHICH WERE REMOVED, AND WILL MAKE THEM AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. *TR

VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN CHRYSLER RECALL NUMBER J14 FOR FRONT SEAT ELECTRIC HEATER ELEMENTS THAT COULD OVER HEAT. BOTH CHRYSLER AND JEEP DEALER WERE NOTIFIED OF EXCESSIVE HEAT GENERATED BY VEHICLE SEAT HEATER AND DECLINED TO MAKE FIX OR REPAIR WITHOUT CHARGE. SPECIFICALLY, THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD FIX IT AND CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAY, BUT WERE NOT GOING TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. SEAT DID EVENTUALLY OVERHEAT TO A POINT THE HEATER NO LONGER WORKED. OWNER SET FORTH TO REPAIR SEAT AND DURING SEAT TEARDOWN OBSERVED EVIDENCE OF SEAT FIRE. MULTIPLE PICTURES AND MELTED WIRES WERE COLLECTED AND PRESERVED. THESE ITEMS WILL BE PROVIDED TO NHTSA UPON REQUEST. IT IS AMAZING DEATH/INJURY DID NOT OCCUR DUE TO THIS KNOWN DEFECT THAT CHRYSLER REFUSED TO ADDRESS. ALL CHRYSLER VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR HEATER DESIGN SHOULD BE INSPECT AND REPAIRED WITHOUT CHARGE TO VEHICLE OWNER. IN ADDITION, CHRYSLER SHOULD BE MADE TO PROVIDE COMPENSATION TO THOSE THAT HAD REPAIRS DONE AT THEIR COST. *JS
