THE SHIFT CABLE IS RUBBING AGAINST THE FUEL LINE, AFTER 156000 MILES IT HAS WORN A HOLE IN THE LINE. DURING A RESENT VACATION I NOTICED THE SMELL OF GAS BUT COULD NOT TELL WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM. WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF IT WOULD STOP LEAKING. AFTER I WAS BACK I WAS USING THE CAR AGAIN BACKING UP AND NOTICED A DRIP DRIP DRIP ON THE GROUND. AS I WAS ONLY A MILE FROM HOME I WENT HOME AND PARKED AND IT STILL LEAKED A BIT UNTIL THE PRESSURE STOPPED. I DID NOT THINK TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE LINE AFTER I REMOVED IT. I TOOK THE FUEL LINE TO A SHOP TO HAVE A UNION PUT IN THE LINE BUT THAT IS LEAKING AS THE FITTING IS NOT TIGHT ENOUGH. I GUESS I WILL NEED TO BUY A NEW LINE. I HAVE NOT SEEN A REPORT OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER JEEPS BUT IT IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS IT COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE.

THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06E011000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN JULY 2013 CHRYSLER STATED THAT THEY WOULD INITIATE A RECALL FOR THE FUEL TANKS EXPLODING IN CERTAIN REAR END COLLISIONS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE HER VEHICLE BECAUSE SHE DID NOT WANT THE VEHICLE TO EXPLODE IN THE EVENT OF A REAR END COLLISION AND BELIEVED THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE FINISHED THE INVESTIGATION. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. HE EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY STARTING THE VEHICLE AFTER ITS BEEN TURNED OFF FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS ARE NOT RECEIVING SUFFICIENT LEVELS OF FUEL. HE REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND REGULATOR; HOWEVER, IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR HE EXPERIENCED AN IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES WHEN ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO NOTICED GASOLINE LEAKING ON THE GROUND UNDER THE GAS TANK. GAS TANK WAS REMOVED AND DEALER FOUND THAT THE O-RING SEALING THE FUEL PUMP TO THE GAS TANK HAD SLIPPED ALLOWING GAS TO LEAK OUT WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL. THE SERVICE REP SAID I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT NOTHING HAD IGNITED THE LEAKING FUEL. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSISTENTLY STALLED AND LEAKED GAS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE GAS LEAK WAS CAUSED BY THE FUEL PUMP. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED HOWEVER GAS CONTINUED TO LEAK. ON 07/13/06 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR THE STALLING PROBLEMS AND THE GAS LEAK. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THERE WAS A BLOWN FUSE WHICH CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE THE FUSE WAS REPLACED AND TIGHTEN. WHILE STOPPED IN THE DEALER PARKING LOT WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ACCELERATING AND ALMOST HITTING A PEDESTRIAN. THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO MAKE THE INVOLUNTARIY ACCELERATION REAPPEAR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO STALL AND LEAK GAS.
SIMILAR TO THE SUMMARY IN ODI ID #10026122, 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HESITATES ON ACCELERATION, MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHES, AND VEHICLE RUNS VERY ROUGH. FORTUNATELY STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THIS IS THE THIRD FUEL INJECTOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITHIN THE PAST THREE MONTHS. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADMITS HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH OTHER NEW GRAND CHEROKEES, BUT BLAMES IT ON "BAD GAS." VEHICLE HAS 15,000 MILES ON ODOMETER.
OVER A ONE (1) MONTH PERIOD, MY CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED BY THE DEALER FOUR (4) TIMES DUE TO A HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS OVER 60 MPH. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THE CAR BEGINS TO STUTTER AND THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT APPEARS AND CONTINUALLY FLASHES. THIS PROBLEM HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO BE IN TWO ACCIDENTS! WHEN THIS FIRST BEGAN, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ONLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. HOWEVER, BY THE THIRD AND FOURTH OCCURRENCE IT WAS HAPPENING AT ONLY 20 MPH AND WHEN AT A STOP LIGHT THE CAR WOULD SHAKE AND BEGIN TO DIE. THERE ARE ONLY 12,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND IT IS LESS THAN ONE (1) YEAR OLD. *JB
