TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR FAILED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO USE THE HEAT AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDERNEATH THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT BOX. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONNECTED PLUG TO THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR MELTED THE WIRES AND PLASTIC CAP THAT SURROUND THE RESISTOR AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BYFORD CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF CHICKASHA (3121 S 4TH ST, CHICKASHA OK 73018) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT BLEND DOORS IN THE HVAC SYSTEM ARE MADE WITH A THIN PLASTIC WHICH EASILY BREAKS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT DOES NOT ALLOW THE HEATED AIR TO TRAVEL TO THE DUCTS GOING TO THE DEFROSTERS AND OTHER AREAS.SINCE THIS HAPPENED TO MY CAR I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS ON THE RUN OF THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. POOR DESIGN AND CHEAP PLASTIC PARTS LED TO PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE HEATER/AC BLEND DOORS THAT CONTROL THE AIR FLOW OF THE HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS EXISTED ON THE 1999 TO 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHY DIDN'T CHRYSLER REPAIR THE DEFECT INSTEAD OF WAITING 6 YEARS? THE DEALER CHARGES $ 1300.00 TO MAKE THIS REPAIR.THE ACTUAL PART IS ABOUT $30.00. CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS. *TR
I HAVE NO HEAT IN THIS VEHICLE. I REPLACE A PART AND DETACHED THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT PERMANENTLY SO THAT I CAN TURN A KNOB TO GET HEAT, AT LEAST, ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THERE IS ZERO HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, BUT I ENGAGE THE "C" BUTTON AND THE PASSENGER SIDE GETS RECIRCULATED AIR ON THAT SIDE, (NOT WARM, BUT AT LEAST NOT FREEZING COLD). SOMETIMES TURNING THE KNOB ENGAGES THE HEAT, SOMETIMES NOT. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING FOR 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED VEHICLES, ALONG WITH PRIOR YEARS. HOWEVER, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE PRE-OWNED, WITH 80K MILES ON IT. MY QUESTION IS IF THIS IS A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING, WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR IT. 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HEATER/DEFROSTER FAILURE. INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING, THE HEATER/DEFROSTER STOPS BLOWING HOT AIR AND BLOWS COLD. I LIVE IN A CITY WHERE WE GET SNOW AND FOG, AND TEMPS GO BELOW ZERO. HAVING A MALFUNCTIONING DEFROSTER IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN A SNOWSTORM, AND I HAD TO PARK THE VEHICLE BESIDE THE ROAD AND CALL A FAMILY MEMBER TO PICK ME UP BECAUSE I COULD NOT KEEP ICE FROM FORMING INSIDE MY WINDSHIELD. I WAS STUCK BESIDE THE ROAD WITH A 2 YEAR OLD CHILD, IN THE SNOW! SOMETIMES TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING WILL HELP, OTHER TIMES, IT WILL RANDOMLY TURN BACK ON. *TR
2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO: HEATER/DEFROSTER INTERMITTENTLY BLOWS COLD AIR WHILE DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING IN THE WINTER WITH HEAT AND/OR DEFROST ON AND TEMP CONTROL TURNED TO WARM/HOT, SUDDENLY THERE IS COLD AIR ONLY. IN RAIN/SNOW WINDSHIELD WILL FROST OVER MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE. THIS DEFECT MAY ONLY LAST A FEW MINUTES, MAYBE LONGER. IF I STOP THE ENGINE FOR A MINUTE OR TWO, AND DON'T TOUCH THE HEATER CONTROLS, RESTART THE CAR, THERE IS HEAT AGAIN TO DEFROST THE GLASS. THIS HOWEVER MAY ONLY LAST A FEW MINUTES OR MAYBE AN HOUR. IF THE ENGINE IS STOPPED AGAIN AND RESTARTED, THERE IS HEAT AGAIN. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS A COLD DEFROSTER IN A SNOWSTORM CAUSES ICE BUILDUP INSIDE THE CAR. I HAVE SEEN MANY HEAT/DEFROST PROBLEMS WITH THIS GENERATION OF GC'S ON THE INTERNET. I PURCHASED A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED IN 2007 AND IT HAD 25,000 MILES AND ONE OWNER. AT 40,000 MILES THE BLEND DOORS FAILED DUE TO DEFECT OF CHEAP PLASTIC AND SHODDY CONSTRUCTION. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUV. RECENTLY, THE DRIVERS SIDE POWER WINDOW EXPERIENCED A MALFUNCTION AND WILL NOT WORK. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A DEFECTIVE REGULATOR. THE REPAIR COST $516. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS ISSUE ON THE WEB AND HAVE DETERMINED THAT THIS ISSUE WITH THE JEEP POWER WINDOW REGULATOR IS A WIDESPREAD, SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH ALL JEEP VEHICLES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MOTORS FAILED IN ALL THREE WINDOWS AND THE WINDOWS WOULD NOT STAY IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

ON 12/19/09 WENT TO JEEP DEALERSHIP, CHARGED $ 99.00 FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND TOLD IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BLEND DOORS; PRICE TO FIX $ 1,400- 2,100 . SEARCHED THE INTERNET ABOUT IT AND FOUND A CHRYSLER JEEP SERVICE BULLETIN # 24-001-04 DATED JANUARY 20, 2004 CONCERNING THE SAME DOORS. IN ADDITION THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF JEEP DRIVERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM IN SEVERAL FORUMS. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR 30 MINUTES, RECONNECTED AND THE HEATER WAS FINE. TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, TURNED BACK ON TEN MINUTES LATER AND AGAIN NO HEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE. *TR
WHEN THE WEATHER GETS COLD AND I TURN THE HEATER IT ONLY BLOWS COLD AIR. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH ATLANTA THIS PAST TUESDAY I NEARLY HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE WINDOWS WERE FOGGED UP. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP THE WINDOWS FROM FOGGING UP UNLESS YOU OPEN THE WINDOWS (NOT SMART WITH 35 DEGREES OUTSIDE) OR YOU TURN THE VENT, WHICH IS THE SAME AS OPENING THE WINDOWS. *TR

THE NEXT NIGHT I DROVE IT BACK TO FLAGSTAFF AND THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED TO 25 DEGREES. THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT COMMON FOR HIS MODEL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
