VEHICLE STARTED STALLING, FIRST IT WOULD STALL AT LOW SPEEDS, USUALLY COMING TO A STOP. NOW THE VEHICLE IS STALLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS LEAVING IT OPEN FOR A DEADLY SITUATION. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE POWER, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND THE OIL LIGHT WILL COME ON. HAVE TRIED PUTTING THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL TO RESART DURING COASTING BUT YOU NEED TO TURN THE KEY ALL THEY WAY OFF AND THEN RESTART. WILL USUALLY RESTART IMMEDIATELY. CALLED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS, THERE ARE NONE BUT THEY RECOMMEND REPLACING THE POWER CONTROL MODULE OR ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. IF THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING A PART THAT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THOSE PARTS. THE WOMAN ON THE PHONE DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED MY VEHICLE WAS STALLING OUT ON THE HIGHWAY EVEN AFTER I MENTIONED I JUST HAD A BABY. I HAVE HAD A PRIVATE MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT AN NO CODES COME UP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER (DID NOT STALL) WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE I40 IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE (NO ACCESS TO MEDIAN BECAUSE OF CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION BARRIERS). ENGINE POWER DID NOT ALLOW ME TO DRIVE OVER 35 MPH. DASH BOARD INDICATOR STARTED FLASHING RED (ETC INDICATOR: ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL). SEVERAL TRACTOR TRAILERS HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO AVOID RUNNING INTO THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. ENGINE IS 3.0L MERCEDES DIESEL. PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE A FAILED SWIRL MOTOR DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL BLOW BY FROM A DEFECTIVE INTAKE TUBE WITH AN ORANGE GASKET. THIS MERCEDES DIESEL ENGINE WAS USED IN JEEP GR CHEROKEE IN 2007 & 2008. THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED IN NHTSA ITEM #1006202 REGARDING MERCEDES VEHICLES BUT NEVER TO JEEP. THIS SITUATION OF LOSS OF POWER WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING COULD OF BEEN TRAGIC. THIS JEEP 2007 & 2008 PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED IN VARIOUS JEEP FORUMS ON THE INTERNET. WHY IS NHTSA NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT??? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO DECELERATE INDEPENDENTLY WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE THEN ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND RAPIDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY I NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD WERE FLASHING ON AND THEN OFF AGAIN, THIS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. IT STOPPED AFTER A FEW MINUTES. MY FUEL, TACHOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, OIL PRESSURE GAUGES ALSO WENT FROM THE ON TO OFF POSITIONS. I NOTIFIED MY CAR DEALERSHIP AND BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR, THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID " THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM IF IT DOESN'T PRESENT ITSELF " SO I DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME. WEEKS HAD PASSED AND THE SAME THINGS HAPPENED AGAIN, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON THEN THEY WENT OFF NUMEROUS TIMES, THE GAUGES WENT ON AND OFF ALSO. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN, THEY TOLD ME TAKE OFF ANY UNNECESSARY ITEMS OFF THE KEYRING THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THAT " I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING ON MY KEYRING" THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM UNLESS IT PRESENTS ITSELF. I SPOKE TO A MECHANIC WHO HAS 30 YRS OF EXPERIENCE IN AUTO REPAIRS AND ELECTRICAL TROUBLESHOOTING. HE TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY THE IGNITION CUT-OFF SWITCH OR SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS THAT WAS CAUSING MY PROBLEMS. HE TOLD ME TO RESEARCH IT ON THE INTERNET. I DID AND I FOUND OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND RESOLVED IT WITH A REPAIR. MY QUESTION IS THIS. WHY WON'T CHRYSLER OWN UP TO THIS PROBLEM AND FIX IT? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE CAM SENSORS IN THE ENGINE WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
BEGAN STALLING WHEN STOPPED OR COMING TO A STOP WITH FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR. ENGINE WOULD START UP JUST BY RESTARTING THE JEEPS. MONTHS LATER SOMETIMES YOU WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE KEY TO OFF BEFORE IT WOULD START,. ON AVERAGE IT WOULD STALL ONCE EVERY 7 TO 10 DAYS. NO CODES, STORED OR PENDING DURING THIS JOURNEY. REPLACED THE CAM SENSOR. CHECK HOSES FOR VACUUM LEAK, FOUND NONE. REPLACED THE ASD RELAY. CHANGED FROM PREMIUM TO MID GRADE. CHANGED TO REGULAR GRADE. CHECKED AIR FILTER AND CLEANED THROTTLE BODY WITH STP CLEANER. ADDED FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER TO FUEL TANK. CHECKED ALL OF THE ELECTRONIC CONNECTORS, NONE LOOSE OR DAMAGED. CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL WAS FINE. REPLACED MAP SENSOR AND POSITION CRANK SENSOR. REPLACE EGR VALVE CHANGED OIL AND FILTER FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I PURCHASED THE JEEP. USED SAE 5W30. WITH 79,000 MILES ON THE HEMI I REPLACED ALL SIXTEEN CHAMPION 570 WITH NEW CHAMPION 570. SPRAYED EACH OF THE 16 BOOTS WITH ELECTRONIC CLEANER VERIFIED THE PLUG GAP AND TORQUED THE PLUGS. SPRAYED VAST AMOUNT OF STP THROTTLE BODY CLEANER IN THE TB AND STP FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER IN THE GAS TANK. STILL STALLING. *TR
THE PLASTIC INTERIOR DOOR PANEL SUPPORTING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ON ALL FOUR DOORS HAS CRACKED AND BROKEN. ONE OF THE REAR DOOR HANDLES DOES NOT FUNCTION AT ALL FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR DUE TO THE BROKEN INTERIOR DOOR PANEL POSING A SAFETY RISK TO THE PASSENGER POTENTIALLY TRAPPING THEM INSIDE THE CAR. ALL FOUR INTERIOR PANELS ARE BREAKING IN THE SAME MANNER WHICH IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, NOT USER ERROR. *TR
FOR A COUPLE YEARS MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL EPISODES OF IGNITION SHUT OFF. I SPOKE WITH MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE WITH JEEP, ONLY SOME DODGE MODELS. I PAID TO HAVE A 2ND COMPUTERIZED KEY MADE AT THE DEALERSHIP, AS DODGE WAS SAYING THEIR ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE DRIVER HAVING OTHER KEYS ON IGNITION KEY RING. THIS WAY I HAD A SINGLE IGNITION KEY. STILL EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE. LAST TIME I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN FROM A SUBDIVISION ON TO A BUSY 2 LANE HWY WITH A POSTED SPEED OF 50 MILES PER HR. IGNITION SHUT OFF AS I STARTED TO CROSS THE RIGHT HAND LANE. FORTUNATELY I HAD ENOUGH FORWARD MOMENTUM TO CLEAR TRAFFIC AND CAME TO REST ON THE LEFT HAND SHOULDER BY A FARMERS FIELD. I FINALLY RECEIVED IN THE MAIL THE OFFICIAL CHRYSLER RECALL NOTICE FOR MY JEEP DUE TO IGNITION SHUT OFF. CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER THIS MORNING TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT, ALTHOUGH THE RECALL SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT ME. WITH SEVERAL INCIDENTS, I FELT TIME WAS CRITICAL. MY DEALER ADVISED ME THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED THE OFFICIAL RECALL NOTIFICATION FROM CHRYSLER AND THEREFORE COULD NOT SCHEDULE THE REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE. IF HOWEVER I WANTED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR THEY COULD SCHEDULE. I ADVISED THEM THAT WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE. EMAILED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND HERE ALSO, MY DISSATISFACTION AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE A WONTON DISREGARD FOR HUMAN SAFETY BY A MANUFACTURE AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVE. *TR
MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE HAS SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I WILL BE GOING 70 MPH OR 15 TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND THEN IT STALLS OUT AND WON'T ACCELERATE. I WILL PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN MY CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT WILL CORRECT ITSELF MOST OF THE TIME. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A TRANSMISSION PLACE AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. THE CONDUCTED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND REPLACED SOME ELECTRICAL WIRING AND IT SEEMED TO HELP FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS. NOW JUST LAST FRIDAY (20 APRIL 2012), I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE AFTER PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND ALMOST GOT BROADSIDED BECAUSE THE CAR JUST WOULDN'T ACCELERATE PAST 2.5 RPMS AND 10 MPH. LUCKILY THE CAR HEADING STRAIGHT FOR ME SLOWED DOWN AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY FOR ON COMING 55 MPH TRAFFIC. I LOOKED ON NUMEROUS WEBSITES AND AN UNGODLY AMOUNT OF JEEP OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS SAME ISSUE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE JEEP DEALER YESTERDAY (23 APRIL 2012) AND THEY SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC SHIFTER MODULE. I WAS GETTING CODES U0404 AND U0103. IT COST $1051.50 TO FIX. I CHECKED ON-LINE AFTER, AND THAT IS WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAID THAT THE JEEP MECHANICS WOULD RECOMMEND EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD JUST BREAK AGAIN 3 MONTHS LATER. ONE MAN EVEN NOTED THAT THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THEY HAVE CHANGED OVER 1,000 OF THOSE IN HIS SHOP ALONE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED! JEEP OBVIOUSLY KNOWS THIS IS GOING ON. *TR
THIS SECOND EVENT, DRIVING 2007 JEEP SRT8 ON SIDE STREET, TIRE PRESSURE WENT ABRUPTLY TO ZERO AS STEERING WENT OUT CAUSING VEHICLE TO VEER OFF ROAD AND ONTO SHOULDER AND GRASS. UPON REMOVAL OF LEFT FRONT TIRE, TREAD SEPARATION CRACKS WERE APPARENT, SOME AS LONG AS 1-1 1/2 INCHES, AT LEAST ONE OF WHICH SEPARATED THROUGH TO AIRLOCK. INNER EDGE OF TIRE VERY MUSHY ALONG 14-16 INCHES OF WHERE SEPARATION OCCURRED. THIS EVENT IS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO AN OCCURRENCE THAT HAPPENED SEPTEMBER 2011 ON THE SAME VEHICLE, REAR TIRE DISPLAYED SEPARATION ON INNER EDGE OVER LARGE AREA. DEFECTIVE TIRES: ********GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A EMT*********** 04/12/12-THIS SECOND EVENT, DRIVING 2007 JEEP SRT8 ON SIDE STREET, TIRE PRESSURE WENT ABRUPTLY TO ZERO AS STEERING WENT OUT CAUSING VEHICLE TO VEER OFF ROAD AND ONTO SHOULDER AND GRASS. VEHICLE JUST RANDOMLY STALLS, SHUTS OFF AS IF THE KEY WAS TURNED OFF AND ON QUICKLY. SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR WHEN GOING SLOW AROUND A TURN OR MAKING ANY TURNS, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND ITS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN IT STALLS. 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4.. MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW PANEL FOR THE PASSENGER WINDOW GOES DOWN BUT NOT UP AND STOPS MID WAY AND GOES BACK DOWN. I JUST HAD MY STARTER REPLACE DUE TO CORROSION OF THE CONNECTORS, AND DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE CONNECTORS, JUST BRUSHED OFF AND STATED I NEED NEW STARTER.... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND THEN THE SPEED BEGAN TO REDUCE TO 20 MPH UNINTENDEDELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A FAULTY ELECTRONIC SHIFT CONTROL MODULE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 5.7 L HEMI. IT DROVE JUST FINE FOR THE 1ST FEW WEEKS OF OWNING IT. RECENTLY IT HAS STARTED STALLING WHEN AT STOP LIGHTS/SIGNS, WHILE DRIVING, AND WHILE IN REVERSE. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP A FEW TIMES ALREADY. IT HAS BEEN THROWING OFF CODES OF P0884 AND P0688. THE DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED US THAT THOSE CODES STAND FOR POWER UP AT SPEED (P0884) AND ASD RELAY (P0668). WE HAVE JUST CHANGED ALL THE SPARK PLUGS AND ARE NOW IN THE MIDST OF CHANGING OUT THE COILS EVERYTIME THE JEEP STALLS, WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR JUST A FEW DAYS AND ARE NOW ON #5 OF 8 AND IT IS NOT WORKING. THE DEALERSHIP HAS RUN OUT OF IDEAS AS TO HOW TO GET THIS FIXED. THIS HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE READ REVIEWS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT WEBSITES AND HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME ISSUES WITH NO RESOLVE. WE HAVE ALSO READ SOME REVIEWS AND THEY HAVE STATED THAT CHRYSLER/JEEP WILL NOT STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND STATE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. I AS A CONSUMER FIND THIS WRONG. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT I FEEL COULD SAVE LIVES ON THE ROAD. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED/RESOLVED. I HAVE NOW WRITTEN DOWN THE NUMBERS AND ADDRESS TO CONTACT CHRYSLER/JEEP AND WILL BE CONTACTING THEM IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE, IN THE MEAN TIME THIS IS WHAT I AM ABLE TO DO. THANK YOU *TR
VEHICLE STALL OUT AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, OR WHEN IDLING STATIONARY. COMES ON WITHOUT WARNING. SEEMS THESE STALLING PROBLEMS ARE COMMON WITH 5.7 HEMI JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES, EVEN ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AS POWER STEERING AND BRAKES ARE LOST DURING A STALL. AN INOPERATIVE VEHICLE IN A TRAFFIC LANE COULD SUFFER A REAR-END COLLISION FROM THIS CONDITION. I BOUGHT MY 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND IN JUNE OF 2011 WITH 52095 MILES ON IT. IN MARCH OF 2012, I EXPERIENCED THE FIRST OF MANY STALLS HAPPEN TO THE JEEP WITH 60,980 MILES ON IT. IT HAS RANDOM, UNPREDICTABLE STALL OUTS THAT HAPPENED THROUGH OUT THE YEAR. IT SEEMS TO STALL WHEN ACCELERATING HOWEVER NOT ALL THE TIME. IT'S STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (MASS PIKE OR RT. 9) AND ON SIDE ROADS. I HAVE NOT OBSERVED ANY PRECURSORS TO THE STALLING. WHEN IT STALLS, IT BUCKS AND THEN THE JEEP DOES NOT ACCELERATE HOWEVER THE LIGHTS COME ON, JUST LIKE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A MANUAL VEHICLE IS STALLED. THESE TYPES OF STALL OUTS I EXPERIENCE DO NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. WHAT HAPPENS SOMETIMES IS THE JEEP WILL BUCK, LIKE IT'S GOING TO STALL, BUT IT DOESN'T AFTER SLAMMING ON THE ACCELERATOR. AFTER A STALL OUT, I AM ABLE TO RESTART THE JEEP AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS NEVER COME ON, JUST THE OIL LIGHT. THIS JEEP HAS HAD THE IGNITION CONNECTOR AND SOFTWARE REPLACED TWICE IN OVER A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS. IT'S BEEN REPLACED BECAUSE OF A STORED CODE: FCMCGW B2185 . THERE ARE TWO OTHER CODES STORED IN THE COMPUTER: PCM P0884 AND ABS C12K. I HAVE TAKEN THE JEEP TO DAN'S JEEP IN WESTBOROUGH, MA SINCE THE FIRST STALL OUT TO THE PRESENT. THE RECENT STALL OUT WAS FRIDAY, JANUARY 11TH. THIS STALL OUT WAS A LITTLE DIFFERENT BECAUSE "PROGRAMMING ASSESS" (SOMETHING LIKE THAT) APPEARED ON THE DASH WITH A BLINKING RED LIGHT. VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY DIE WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND IS REALLY DANGEROUS WHEN THE VEHICLE DIES GOING 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. ONCE THE VEHICLE DIES IT IS EASILY RESTARTED ONCE STOPPED AND THEN DRIVES LIKE NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. I HAVE TWO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE THAT MAKE IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FIRST IS THAT THE ENGINE RANDOMLY STALLS. MOST OF THE TIME IT STALLS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED. SOMETIMES IT STALLS AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN STOPPED, SOMETIMES I HEAR A "THUNK" RIGHT BEFORE IT STALLS LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO GO INTO GEAR. IT HAS DONE THIS RUNNING IN PARK AND WHEN THE BRAKE IS PRESSED WHILE IN DRIVE. IT HAS STALLED ON ME IN BUSY INTERSECTIONS PUTTING ME IN UNSAFE SITUATIONS. TURNING THE KEY ALL THE WAY OFF AND BACK ON WILL RESTART IT. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT THE TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY GETS STUCK IN 4TH GEAR. IT HAPPENS MOST OFTEN WHEN A LOT OF POWER HAS BEEN APPLIED FROM STOP. BUT IT ALSO HAPPENS RANDOMLY. WHEN IT OCCURS, I PULL OVER AND STOP THE ENGINE TURNING THE KEY ALL THE WAY OFF. USUALLY WHEN I RESTART IT WILL GO BACK TO DRIVE AND ALL THE GEARS IN THE TRANSMISSION FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE ISSUE IS SO CHRONIC NOW WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT IT IMMEDIATELY GOES INTO 4TH AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE. IT IS AT THE DEALER NOW. THE DEALER PULLED CODES AND RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID PACK. THIS PART IS CURRENTLY ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND THERE IS NO ETA OF WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE TO THE DEALER. ALSO THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS PART WILL FIX THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. IF IT DOESN'T, THE VEHICLE WILL REQUIRE A NEW TRANSMISSION. THEY ARE NOT EVEN LOOKING AT THE STALLING PROBLEM UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. THE STALLING PROBLEM IS VERY SERIOUS AND I CANNOT CONFIDENTLY USE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT FEARING PUTTING CHILDREN IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. ABOUT THREE WEEKS LATER IN A PARKING LOT, WE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PUSHED VIRTUALLY ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME ABNORMALLY STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO TURN HOWEVER I WAS ABLE TO GUIDE THE COMPLETELY STALLED AND DECELERATING VEHICLE TO THE SLOW LANE AND PULL-OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (WITH NO SIDE LANE) WITH HAZARDS FLASHING AND TRAFFIC PASSING. THIS WAS AN INHERENTLY DANGEROUS CONDITION AS THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 - 40 IN THE FAST LANE AT WHICH TIME I COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND HAD LIMITED STEERING (MORE LIKE COASTING) ABILITY. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE ENGINE COMPLETELY OFF AND RESTART, HOWEVER THE NEXT DAY UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS OF NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE JERKED AND STALLED AGAIN, AND RESTARTED AFTER A COMPLETE SHUTDOWN. THIS VEHICLE ON THE THIRD DAY POST THE FIRST INCIDENT FAILED TO RESTART AFTER DRIVING TO A LOCAL SHOPPING DESTINATION AND TURNING THE CAR OFF TO PARK. I LEFT THE VEHICLE AT THE LOCATION FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 TO 5 HOURS AND RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE UPON WHICH IT STARTED WITH A DOCUMENTED CALL INTO ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FROM JEEP. THE NEXT DAY (MONDAY) I DROVE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER UPON WHICH THEY STATED THE FAILURE WAS THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE (ESM) [(NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)] WHICH CONTROLS THE ELECTRONIC SIGNALS FROM THE COMPUTER TO THE TRANSMISSION AT A PERSONAL COST OF $820. I BELIEVE THIS REPRESENTS A KNOWN DEFECT AS CURRENTLY 55 OUT OF THE 133 COMPLAINTS LISTED HERE ARE DESCRIBING A SIMILAR SERIES OF EVENTS AND ROOT CAUSE, AND WOULD BE WILLING TO BE INVOLVED IN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST JEEP AS LIFE, LIMB AND PROPERTY ARE AT STAKE. *TR

OWNED THE 07 JEEP FOR 5 MONTHS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED FOR 2 DIFFERENT INCIDENTS. THE 1ST INCIDENT(ACTUALLY HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES) IS WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT DURING ACCELERATION AND IT WOULD FORCE ME TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE I WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF UNTIL IT WOULD RUN CORRECTLY. WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP SERVICE THAT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION SENSOR,HAD THE PART REPLACED-NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. LESS THEN 3 WEEKS LATER, 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I WAS DRIVING 55MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHILE ACCELERATING TO GET OVER TO AN EXIT, THE VEHICLE THREW ITSELF BACK INTO 2ND GEAR AND I WAS FORCED TO GET OVER INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE SO AS NOT TO BE STRUCK BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE JEEP HAD ALMOST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN TRAFFIC! CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT OFF AFTER THAT. DEALERSHIP STATES THE GEAR RATIO AND VALVE COVER FORCED THE VEHICLE INTO 2ND GEAR. THERE WAS ALSO A WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING THE GEAR SHIFT HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE GEAR SHIFT MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED HER TO FILE A COMPLAINT BUT OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,300.
ON OCT.5TH AS I WAS MERGING ONTO THE THRUWAY AT 55MPH THE TRUCK JUST STOPPED ACCELERATING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I PUT ON MY FLASHERS AND COASTED TO THE SHOULDER JUST BARELY AVOIDING BEING REAR ENDED. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS VEHICLE. YOU COULD PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND THE RPM'S WOULD GO SKY HIGH BUT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT MOVE WHILE IN DRIVE. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF,WAITED SEVERAL SECONDS,STARTED THE TRUCK AND IT MOVED IN DRIVE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER AND HAVE A OCT.7TH SERVICE CALL.THIS WAS A NEAR DEATH SITUATION THE SECOND TIME DUE TO THE RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THIS VEHICLE HAS TROUBLE SHIFTING WHEN STARTED IN THE MORNING. AFTER LOOKING INTO THE MATTER THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND MAKE. IT APPEARS THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULES NEED REPLACING.AFTER READING THE NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I THOUGHT I WOULD FILE A COMPLAINT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
I BOUGHT THIS JEEP ON 9/20/2013. THE TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.7 L HEMI ENGINE. OVER THE FIRST 50 DAYS AND 1,157 MILES OF OWNERSHIP I HAVE ENCOUNTERED 18 EPISODES OF THE VEHICLE STALLING, WITH 14 OF THOSE STALLS OCCURRING ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS IN TRAFFIC. THE STALLS OCCUR WITH NO WARNING. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY DECELERATES TO A STOP AND I AM LEFT WITH NO POWER, NO STEERING AND NO BRAKES. ONE DEALERSHIP BLAMED IT ON A BAD BATTERY. THE DEALERSHIP WHICH SOLD ME THE JEEP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A M.A.P. SENSOR, WHICH THEY REPLACED. THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AS THE STALLING PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR. THE MOST RECENT WAS ON 11/9/2013 WHILE DRIVING IN THE CENTER LANE OF THE PA TURNPIKE AT 65 MPH. THE JEEP STALLED AND CAME TO A STOP, WITH A SEMI TRACTOR-TRAILER BEHIND ME. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THAT TRUCK DRIVER WAS ABLE TO SWERVE IN TIME TO MISS ME. MECHANICS AND ON-LINE FORUMS IDENTIFY POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR THE STALLING AS 1. A DEFECTIVE (ECM) ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES; 2. SHORTS IN THE WIRING HARNESS; 3. SPARKS PLUGS; 4. EGR VALVE; 5. IGNITION COIL; 6. PCV VALVE; 7. TRANSMISSION SOLENOID PACK. THERE ARE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES STORED IN THE OBD-II SYSTEM. ONE SCHOOL OF THOUGHT IS THAT 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND COMMANDERS EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.7 L HEMI ENGINE ARE EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE FROM THE WASTE SPARK ON THE COIL. AS OTHER COMPLAINTS HAVE NOTED, THIS IS AN OBVIOUS AND PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH JEEPS EQUIPPED WITH THE HEMI ENGINE, AND CHRYSLER HAS TURNED A DEAF EAR TO THE COMPLAINTS. PERHAPS THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE FATALITIES TO OCCUR. WHY NHTSA HASN'T DONE MORE TO ORDER A RECALL IS BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON FOR YEARS WITH NO ACTION TAKEN BY CHRYSLER. THIS JEEP IS, FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, A DEATHTRAP. AT BEST IT CANNOT BE TRUSTED, IT IS UNSAFE AND UNRELIABLE. DRIVING AT NIGHT, DOING 50 MPH WHEN VEHICLE ENGINE CUT OFF - COULD NOT PULL OFF ROAD, APPLY BRAKES OR STEER.TOWED IN. "REPAIRED BY DEALERSHIP" ONLY TO OCCUR AGAIN IN 6 DAYS WHEN ENGINE WOULD NOT START AT ALL. AGAIN, SENT FOR REPAIR, FIVE DAYS IN SHOP. OCCURRED AGAIN THE VERY NEXT DAY - WOULD NOT START. HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP ANOTHER WEEK AND THEY STILL HAVE NO SOLUTION TO PROBLEM. HUSBAND IS TOTALLY DISABLED AND WE MUST HAVE A DEPENDABLE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE TIE ROD END HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
