2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. LEFT FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF THE VEHICLE. *BF THE TIRE DAMAGED THE FRONT FENDER WHEN IT SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE TWO WEEKS AGO. OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT # 10-0174-91. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2007 USED JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FROM KELLY JEEP ON 3/11/2010, WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 24,758 MILES. THIS VEHICLE HAS STALLED RANDOMLY SEVEN (7) TIMES SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE. IT HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT THREE TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CAUSE OF THE STALLING. THE STALLING OCCURS AFTER A STOP AND THEN ATTEMPTS TO PROCEED INTO A TURN AT LOW SPEED. IT OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN A RIGHT TURN IS BEING MADE. THE ENGINE STOPS AND ALL ELECTRIC ENERGY ARE LOST, JUST AS THOUGH THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. BRAKING ASSIST AND POWER STEERING ARE LOST. I HAVE PROVIDED THE DEALER A DOCUMENT LISTING AND OBSERVATION OF EACH OF THE SEVEN EVENTS. SEVERAL HAVE PLACES ME IN A COMPRISING POSITION AND IF TRAFFIC HAD BEEN HEAVY COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE ALWAYS IS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER IT STOPPED, THE IGNITION TURNED OFF AND PLACED IN PARK. *TR
WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT AT SLOW SPEED THE ENGINE RPM DROP FROM ABOUT 600 RPM TO 300 OR 400 RPM AND THEN STALLS. THIS HAPPENED 11 TIME IN 2010 AND THEN FINAL DISAPPEARED. IT NOW HAPPEN IN 4 TIMES SINCE 24 MARCH 2014. TWICE IT HAPPENED IN NORTHERN NJ AS I TRIED TO ENTER THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY, ONCE IN A SHIOPPING MALL AND TWO WEEKS AGO AS I WAS TURN OFF THE MAIN ROAD INTO MY STREET. RECENTLY I HAVE WRITTEN THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM BUT I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED EVEN AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. I WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE AN EXPENSIVE ANALYSIS DONE. WHEN THIS WAS DONE IN 2010 THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. I WAS TOLD THEY HAD TO SEE IT HAPPEN. I HAD IT HAPPEN 1000 FT FROM THEIR FACILITY, BUT THEY REFUSED SEE THE VEHICLE UNLESS IT WAS TOWED. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY WHEN IT OCCURS TURNING ON TO A HIGH SPEED HIGHWAY. *TR
2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE -- INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT AT APPROX 55 MPH. ENTIRE FRONT END OF VEHICLE DESTROYED, $7700 DAMAGE. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY.
THE "SHIFTER MODULE" IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE IN THE CAR WHEN IT FIRST STARTING ACTING UP. LUCKILY, THEY WERE JUST LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY AND NO OTHER CARS WERE COMING DOWN THE STREET. THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED. ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER "TRANSMISSION OVERTEMP" WAS FLASHING, AND ALL OF THE OTHER WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE CLUSTER. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL DEALER, A PARTS REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT HE HAS HAD TO REPLACE SO MANY OF THESE SHIFTER MODULES THAT HE'S MEMORIZED THE PART # (NOT KIDDING). HE TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEIR SHOP SWAPS OUT THE DEFECTIVE JEEP SHIFTER MODULES WITH MERCEDES SHIFTER MODULES. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS REPAIR COST ME WELL OVER $1000.00. BOTTOM LINE - MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR AROUND TOWN. I DON'T HAVE A TOW HITCH, AND I PAMPER THIS CAR. STILL, JEEP REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS COSTLY REPAIR. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS, BUT CHRYSLER WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS DEFECTIVE PART. YET, ON REPUTABLE AUTO FORUMS, MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME EXACT SHIFTER MODULE DEFECT. DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED IN DRIVE, TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED INTO 4TH GEAR WITHOUT MANUAL ASSISTANCE. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE UNSUCCESSFULLY. I THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK AND BACK INTO DRIVE. DASHBOARD INDICATOR SAID THE TRANSMISSION REMAINED IN 4TH EVEN THOUGH THE SHIFTER WAS IN DRIVE. SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE. I THEN PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE AND RESUMED MY TRIP. ALSO, ON A SECOND OCCASION, DRIVING WITH TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE, STARTING FROM A STOP, TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED INTO 1ST GEAR. PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED. PUT TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE AND RESUMED TRIP WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEM. *TR

FORTUNATELY FOR US, SHE WAS ABLE TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE DRIVWAY, UNHARMED. LIVING ON A BUSY STREET, WE ARE VERY LUCKY THAT IT HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT/INJURY. AS THIS IS THE SECOND TIME SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAS HAPPENED, I AM NOW AFRAID TO LET HER DRIVE THIS CAR ANY LONGER, UPON CONTACTING JEEP/CHRYSLER, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COVER THIS SAFETY REPAIR (APPROX. COST IS $1025.OO W/TAX,PARTS,LABOR). I AM DOWNRIGHT FRUSTRATED, ANGRY, AND FEARFUL. AFTER READING SCORES OF OFHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SHIFTER MODULE ON REPUTABLE SITES LIKE EDMUNDS.COM, MY FRUSTRATION WITH CHRYSLER HAS INCREASED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING ON TWO OCCASIONS FOR THE SIMILAR FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE PROBLEM COULD POSSIBLY BE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ESM OR EITHER THE PCM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
IN AUGUST OF 2009 MY WIFE EXPERIENCED HER JEEP CHEROKEE DIE OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I MET HER AT THE SCENE. THE CAR STARTED IMMEDIATELY AND WAS DRIVABLE WITH NO SUBSEQUENT OCCURRENCES THAT DAY. WE TOOK IT TO JACK PHALEN DODGE IN COUNTRYSIDE, IL FOR SERVICE TO SEE IF THEY COULD DETERMINE THE CAUSE. ON AUGUST 31 WE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND IT CHECKED OUT COMPLETELY, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CONCERN. TWICE SINCE AUGUST WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME CONCERN, THE CAR DIED OUT IN TRAFFIC. BOTH TIMES WE WERE ABLE TO START THE CAR WITHOUT ANY ISSUES AND CONTINUE. ON SATURDAY, MARCH 6 WE DROVE TO DOWNTOWN CHICAGO. ON THIS DAY WE INITIAL DROVE OVER 20 MILES TO GET INTO THE CITY, HOWEVER ONCE WE WERE THERE THE CAR BEGAN TO DIE. THIS TIME WE EXPERIENCED IT DYING OUT AT LEAST 10 TIMES. ONCE, ON I-55 WITH TRAFFIC MOVING AT EXPRESSWAY SPEEDS. HAVING LOST CONFIDENCE THAT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO CONTINUE SAFELY WE CALLED FOR A TOW. WE TOOK IT BACK TO JACK PHALEN FOR REVIEW. WE PICKED UP THE CAR ON MONDAY, MARCH 8. AGAIN WE WERE TOLD THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG MECHANICALLY WITH THE AUTO. HOWEVER, THEY NOTED THAT THERE WAS A "STAR CASE FOR LOSS OF THROTTLE RESPONSE #K34511542" WHICH RESPONDED TO "SOFTWARE UPDATES". THEY INSTALLED 5 SOFTWARE UPDATES. WE RECEIVED NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE ISSUE NOR WOULD THEY GUARANTEE THAT FUTURE OCCURRENCES WOULD BE COVERED UNDER OUR WARRANTY, WHICH EXPIRES IN APRIL 2010. WE ARE OBVIOUSLY CONCERNED THAT DATED SOFTWARE COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A CAR LOSING ALL POWER IN TRAFFIC AND THE DANGERS THAT WOULD POSE. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER. THIS OBVIOUSLY SEEMS LIKE IT COULD POTENTIALLY PRESENT A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY, IT STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
2007 GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND 3.0L DIESEL. FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WILL ALL COME ON SIMILAR TO WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST STARTED. RECENTLY THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACH WILL SHUT OFF AS WELL. IF THIS WERE A GAS ENGINE THE ENGINE WOULD PROBABLY ALSO STALL. NUMEROUS TIMES AT THE DEALER NO CHANGE. I BELIEVE THIS RELATED TO THE 2008 GRAND CHEROKEE RECALL. *TR
I WAS STOPPING WHEN I WAS REAR-ENDED BY A VEHICLE GOING APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES PER HOUR. THE IMPACT OF THE COLLISION PUSHED ME INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. MY SEAT BELT (ONE PIECE) EXPERIENCED A PARTIAL FAILURE. THE LAP BAND LOCKED UP, HOWEVER THE SHOULDER PIECE FAILED TO LOCK, CAUSING MY HEAD TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM, I RECEIVED 5 STITCHES ON THE BRIDGE OF MY NOSE AND AM EXPERIENCING SIGNIFICANT BRUISING AND SWELLING OF THE FACE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILED TO OPERATE. ALL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE THEN INDEPENDENTLY RESTARTED AND IT WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO PRODUCE ANY FAILURE CODES. THE FAILURE RECURRED. AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES YET THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 40,800.
I OWN A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE V6 2WD AND OTHER OWNERS ACROSS THE US (THOUSANDS OF THEM) WITH YEARS RANGING 2005-2007 REPORT PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE. THIS GOES OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING (SOMETIMES ON THE HIGHWAY) AND WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE HAD MINE REPLACED TWICE NOW AND HAVE ONLY OWNED MY JEEP FOR 1 1/2 YEARS (BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW). THIS HAPPENED IN MARCH 2009 AND AGAIN JANUARY 2010. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. WITHIN SECONDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART WITHOUT DRIVER INTENT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE POWER-TRAIN CONTROL MODULE, AND THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE; YET, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT VOLUNTARILY SURRENDERED THE VEHICLE TO THE MANUFACTURER. HE WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE RESOLD SINCE IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A CRASH TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO ONLY OFFERED TO PAY FOR ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000...UPDATED 06/05/12 *BF WHENEVER A SPARK PLUG WOULDN'T FIRE BACK THE UN-USED CHARGE FLOWED BACK THROUGH THE CIRCUIT AND TRIPPED THE SURGE PROTECTOR ON THE VEHICLE'S MAIN COMPUTER WHICH CAUSED IT TO SHUT DOWN. TWO OF THE SPARK PLUGS AND COILS WERE REPLACED. THERE HAVE BEEN NO PROBLEMS SINCE. UPDATED 06//18/12
I HAVE SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT BEFORE BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND HAS GOTTEN WORSE. MY JEEP LOSES ALL ELECTRICAL POWER AND SHUTS DOWN AND RESTARTS ITSELF WHILE DRIVING, OCCASIONALLY DOESN'T ACCELERATE PAST SECOND GEAR AND OTHER TIMES ACCELERATES VERY SLOWLY, NUMEROUS TIMES DEALERSHIP TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG, FINALLY THEY REPLACED CLOCKSPRING AND MOTHERBOARD BUT PROBLEM BEGAN RECURRING ONLY DAYS LATER. ONLY NOW MY JEEP IS ADDITIONALLY AT TIMES ACTING LIKE IT WANTS TO SHUT DOWN BUT INSTEAD IS JUST FALTERING SHAKING THE WHOLE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY ACCOMPANIED BY THE STRUGGLING TO ACCELERATE. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2007 GRAND CHEROKEE AWAY AT COLLEGE. SEVERAL TIMES AS SHE WAS DRIVING ALONG THE ROADS WITH TRAFFIC, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO GO NEUTRAL AND ALL GEAR INDICATIONS LIT CIRCLED AS THOUGH IT WAS IN ALL GEARS, BUT WAS NOT "DRIVING". WHEN IT FINALLY KICKED BACK INTO GEAR IT ACCELERATED QUICKLY. SHE HAD TO BREAK AND PULL OVER SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAPPENED. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED AN ELECTRONIC MODULE. THIS COULD BE A DEADLY FAILURE. TWO DEALERSHIPS' SERVICE DEPARTMENTS I HAVE ASKED HAVE HEARD OF IT BUT SAY IT ISN'T A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, A SALES MANAGER WHERE WE BOUGHT IT CLAIMS NEVER TO HAVE HEARD OF THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
TODAY WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 35-40MPH MY VEHICLE STALLED. I HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS AWAITING A TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGE. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED AND I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND JERK AND THE ESP/BAS LIGHT, MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (CHECK ENGINE) AND A MESSAGE STATING TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP CAME ON. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE AND IMMEDIATELY PUT ON MY FLASHERS. THE DRIVER BEHIND REALIZED THAT I WAS IN TROUBLE AND PUT ON HIS AS WELL. AFTER I WAS ABLE TO ROLL TO THE SHOULDER, I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER WAITING APPROXIMATELY 5MINS, I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY TO MY OFFICE SINCE I WAS JUST 2 BLOCKS FROM WORK. THIS EXPERIENCE SCARED ME BECAUSE HAD THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT THE 60-65 MPH RATE ON THIS VERY BUSY HIGHWAY, I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT. AFTER READING SEVERAL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS, I CAN ALSO RELATE TO THE COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TIRES HAVING HAD TO REPLACE A BROKEN STEM AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE ONLY 2 DAYS AND I CURRENTLY STILL HAVE WATER LEAKING INTO MY VEHICLE ON RAINING DAYS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND NOW THROUGH THE LIGHTS. I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY DAILY AND AFTER TODAY'S STALL OUT, I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND EXPLAINED MY ISSUES AND TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT ALL OF THE LIGHTS AND HE TOLD ME THE CAR WAS PROBABLY COLD AND IF THE LIGHTS DON'T GO OUT I CAN BRING IT IN ON SATURDAY. WELL TODAY IS WEDNESDAY AND I WILL NOT DRIVE THAT CAR AGAIN. SINCE THE DEALERSHIP IS QUITE A DISTANCE FROM MY HOME, I WILL HAVE THE CAR TOWED SO THAT IT CAN BE CHECKED OUT. I AM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE IDEA OF EVER DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. I TRANSPORT CHILDREN AS PART OF MY JOB FROM TIME TO TIME AND I COULD NEVER FORGIVE MYSELF IF SOMETHING WAS TO HAPPEN TO THEM WHILE WE ARE RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON ALL OF MY DASH LIGHTS LIT UP AND THERE WAS NO POWER FOR A FEW SECONDS. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE NO BEEN ABLE TO TAKE MY JEEP INTO THE SHOP SINCE I WAS ALREADY AT WORK. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO READ THE FAULT. *TR

I WRITE THIS ONLY BECAUSE I JUST EXPERIENCE MY FOURTH MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN IN THREE YEARS. IN DECEMBER 2009, I EXPERIENCED THE FIRST BREAKDOWN IN WHAT HAS BECOME A STRING OF MALFUNCTIONS. THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2007 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO GAVE OUT AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES. WHEN TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE, I GOT A 'TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT' MESSAGE ON THE DASH DISPLAY ALONG WITH THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND IT TOOK NEARLY A MONTH FOR THE REPAIR SHOP TO LOCATE, RECEIVE AND INSTALL THE NECESSARY PARTS. APPARENTLY SUPPLY AND DEMAND HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT, INDICATING TO ME THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE NATIONWIDE. A MONTH LATER, ANOTHER MALFUNCTION, THIS TIME, THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE (ESM) HAD DIED. JUST OVER A YEAR LATER, THE SAME COMPONENT (ESM) DIED AGAIN (OF COURSE JUST OUT OF WARRANTY), THIS TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ALONG RT. 50 OUTSIDE OF DC. NOW, LESS THAN SIX MONTHS LATER, WITH LESS THAN 40,000 ON THE ALREADY REPLACED TRANSMISSION, MY TRANSMISSION HAS BLOWN AGAIN - SAME 'TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT' MESSAGE, SAME ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT, SAME UNDRIVABILITY. CLEARLY FROM SEEING THE COMMENTS ON THIS FORUM AS WELL AS OTHER REPUTABLE SITES SUCH AS EDMUNDS AND CONSUMER REPORTS, THE 2007 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO HAS A LONG, LONG HISTORY OF MECHANICAL AND ELECTRONIC PROBLEMS. I HAVE A PHONE CALL SCHEDULED WITH A CASE WORKER SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW, 7/13/2012. THEY'LL EITHER MAKE IT RIGHT OR I'LL BE TAKING MY STORY TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT. I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT 70 MPH IN THE NUMBER ONE LANE WHEN THE MOTOR JUST QUIT. I HAD TO CHANGE OVER THREE LANES TO GET TO SIDE SO I WOULD BE SAFE. THERE LARGE TRUCKS IN THE NUMBER TWO AND THEE LANES WHICH CAUSED ME CONCERN FOR MY SAFETY. THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE INCIDENT. I FEEL THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL BECAUSE THE SPRINTER USES THE SAME ENGINE WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME REASON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THE CONTACT STATED AS HE STARTED THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED FLUIDS LEAKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PLUGGED ADAPTER GUIDE BUSHING TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. AT 29,500 MILES, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A RIGHT TURN WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 10 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONSOLE SHIFT WAS REPAIRED. AT 34,500 MILES, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 30 MPH. ALL FOUR TRANSMISSION GEAR SELECTOR WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE YET THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE SOFTWARE WOULD NEED AN UPDATE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,600. UPDATED 11/16/10*BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE IS STILL NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY AND STAYS IN FIRST GEAR TOO LONG. UPDATED 11/16/10*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE SHUT OFF IN TRAIFFIC OVER 25 TIMES. THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPEED SENSOR, IGNITION KEY, AND THE WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE. NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAVE REMEDIED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
BOTH FRONT TIRES SEPARATED ON THE INSIDE EDGES OF THE TIRES. HAD NOTICED IT WEARING THIN AT AROUND 13 THOUSAND. HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED, AND IT WAS IN PERFECT SPEC. AROUND 15 THOUSAND, I NOTICED A VERY THIN SPOT AND HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED AGAIN, AND THE ALIGNER TOLD ME THAT THE METAL WAS SHOWING THROUGH, AND THE TIRES WERE ABOUT TO SPLIT APART. HAD THE TIRES CHANGED FOR ANOTHER BRAND ON ALL FOUR CORNERS, AND HAVE NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS SINCE AFTER 22,000 MORE MILES. STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL FRONT TIRES FOR REFERENCE OR INSPECTION, AND ALL ALIGNMENT SHEETS. BEING AN INCIDENT FROM OVER A YEAR AGO, I AM NOT 100% SURE ON THE DATES. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. AM TOLD THAT THIS INDICATES THAT THE AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING. HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO THE JEEP DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH THE REMOTE STARTER THAT WAS INSTALLED BY THE SAME JEEP DEALER, YET THAT WAS ALMOST 2 MONTHS AGO BUT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. *TR

UPON DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I FELT MY VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION CHANGE GEARS, WHICH FELT LIKE NEUTRAL. MY CAR SLOWED A BIT BUT THEN SPED BACK UP, AND THEN SLOWED AGAIN AND SPED BACK UP. I THEN NOTICED THE P, R, N, D WERE ALL LIT UP. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER MY VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION WHEN THIS OCCURRED. AFTER I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED. AFTER REPLACING IT, THREE MONTHS LATER IT OCCURRED AGAIN, AND WAS REPLACED AGAIN. OVER THE LAST 1.5 YEARS IT HAS OCCURRED RANDOMLY, OVER AND OVER, AND NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DRIVER HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE'S SPEED. JEEP KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED, THEREFORE MAKING THEIR CUSTOMERS CONTINUE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. A RECALL NEEDS TO ISSUED.

NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE MOST DANGEROUS HAVE BEEN THE PRND LIGHTING UP AND VEHICLE NOT GOING OVER 1ST OR 2ND GEAR WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 7 TIMES NOW, 4 OF WHICH HAVE TRIED TO BE DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER WITHOUT SUCCESS, THEY JUST REPLACED THE GEAR SHIFTER TWICE. THE 3RD TIME I HAD TAKEN A PHOTO OF THIS AND GAVE IT TO THE DEALER WHEN THEY TOLD ME 'NOTHING WAS WRONG' ACCORDING TO THEIR DIAGNOSTICS. PHOTO PROVED OTHERWISE. ALSO THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT ITSELF OFF TWICE WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD. THE WINDOWS ALSO GET STUCK AND WILL NOT WORK. HAVE TO OPERATE ONE WINDOW TO MAKE THE OTHER ONE WORK. THE BATTERY FAILED AND 'TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP" ERROR HAPPENED AT THE SAME TIME. MANUFACTURER'S SERVICE AGENT SAID IT WAS A FALSE READOUT DUE TO BATTERY FAILURE BUT THEY DID FIX SOMETHING ON THE TRANSMISSION. I AM FILING FOR A SECOND LEMON LAW ARBITRATION HEARING IN FLORIDA. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE WITH THESE ISSUES. INCIDENT DATE ON THIS FORM IS ONLY THE LAST DATE OF OCCURRENCE SINCE ONLY ONE OPTION. A YEAR AGO IT STALLED AT 40 MILES PER HOUR TRAVELING NORTH ON UNIVERSITY BLVD 100 FT FROM THE DEALER KELLY JEEP DEALERSHIP WERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. I WAS MADE AWARE IN JULY 2014 THAT THERE WAS AN IGNITION KEY PROBLEM. BY A LOCAL AUTO BODY REPAIR SHOP OWNER. I REMOVE EVERYTHING FROM KEY EXCEPT A SMALL LIGHTWEIGHT IDENTIFICATION PLASTIC TAG A MONTH AGO IT STALLED AGAIN WHICH TURNING ONTO HIGH SPEED FOUR LANGE EXPRESSWAY. I HAVE CONTACT A DIFFERENT DEALER THREE MONTHS GO AND WAS TOLD CHRYSLER IS WORKING ON THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IN ALMOST A YEAR CHRYSLER STILL APPEARS TO HAVE NOT INKLING OF OWH TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT IN SEPT 2014 I HAD IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS REQUIRED TO HAVE VEHICLE TESTED BY THE ANALYZER. NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. EVEN THOUGH I AM 90 YEARS OLD I STILL HAVE SUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO GET THE VEHICLE TO A STOP AND IF POSSIBLE TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY IN ORDER TO RESTART IT. BUT I AM AFRAID THAT IF THIS HAPPENS WITH MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING SHE WILL NOT BE HAVE SUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO STEER OF BRAKE THE VEHICLE WHEN IT LOSSES COMPLETE POWER. LAST WE I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER REGARDING THE NEED TO RE-PROGRAM THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROL MODULE (FDCM), THAT MAY CAUSE THE SERVICE $WD LIGHT TO BE ACTIVATED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE GEARS. HE HELD THE GEAR SHIFT TO SUPPORT HIMSELF, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE SPED DOWN A HILL AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CABLE WENT INTO THE SHIFTING GEAR, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT NOT THE GEAR SHIFT. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE AUTO BODY SHOP. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE SOMEONE FROM CHRSYLER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 43,000.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC, I BEGAN ACCELERATING TO THE SPEED LIMIT OF 45 MPH. I WAS ACCELERATING RAPIDLY AS TRAFFIC WAS COMING QUICKLY FROM BEHIND. THE JEEP STOPPED ACCELERATING AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHOWED ALL OF THE DRIVE LETTERS WITH BOXES AROUND THEM. THE JEEP WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FOR OVER 20 SECONDS, CAUSING ME TO RAPIDLY PULL OFF OF THE ROAD TO AVOID TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. THE DEALER FOUND A FAULTY ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE AND REPLACED IT. THE VEHICLE HAS WORKED WELL UNTIL 2/15/12. AT 70,000 MILES, THE DEALER INSTALLED MODULE HAS FAILED AGAIN. ONCE MORE THIS HAPPENED WHEN ENTERING A HEAVY TRAFFIC ROADWAY. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS THROUGHOUT THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE. IN MY CASE, BOTH FAILURES RESULTED IN ME HAVING TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID A COLLISION. I HAVE A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DIESEL. BOUGHT NEW, NOV. 07. AT ABOUT 28K MILES, ON MAY 24, NOXIOUS FUMES STARTED COMING THROUGH THE A/C VENTS WHILE IDLING, AFTER COMING TO A STOP. TOOK TO DEALER. THEY HAD IT FOR 3 DAYS, GOT A RUN AROUND, THEY SAID CHRYSLER TECH LINE SAID IT WAS NORMAL, TOLD ME TO SET THE A/C SYSTEM ON RECIRCULATION. SERVICE MANAGER ADMITS HE SMELLED IT BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. CALLED CHRYSLER TECH LINE, THEY SAID THE SAME THING ALSO THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A DEALER WITH BETTER TECHNICIANS. PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE, STINKS, CAUSES EYE STING. PROBABLY EXHAUST FUMES, SMELLS LIKE A NATURAL GAS LEAK ONLY WORSE! *TR
FRONT GOOD YEAR TIRES SEPARATING FROM THE BELT. CAR IS IN PERFECT ALIGNMENT CHECKED BY DEALER. HUNDREDS MAYBE THOUSANDS HAVE BEEN REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM, ALL AT AROUND 20K MILES. DEALER FAILING TO WARRANTY THEM CLAIMING THAT ITS NORMAL ON THESE TRUCKS DUE TO THE SUSPENSION??? NOT MY PROBLEM! DO NOT PLAN ON SPENDING $460 DOLLARS PER TIRE EVERY 20K MILES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH DOWN BUSY ROAD THE ENGINE DIED, WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED THERE WAS NO POWER, DASH WENT COMPLETELY DARK. PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES IT COULD BE RESTARTED. THE SHIFT CONTROL MODULE HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED DUE TO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS. *TR

THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED. SHE WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE SHE LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AGAIN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE WAS REPLACED AT THAT TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN OCTOBER 2010, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE WAS BEING REPLACED AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED TO PAY FOR THE COST OF THE PART. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,200. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000.
2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (16,000 MILES) SHUTDOWN ON FREEWAY. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE @70MPH. I HAD TURN FLASHERS ON AND MOVE TO THE SHOULDER. NO ACCIDENT, NO INJURY, CAR STARTED ON FIRST TRY ON THE SHOULDER. *TR
VEHICLE WILL STALL WITHOUT WARNING. HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST SIX TIMES OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS. THE STALL AS OCCURRED AT SPEEDS AS HIGH AS 45 MILES AND HOUR. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST SIX WEEKS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER HAS GIVEN US PUSH BACK WHEN WE SCHEDULE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT BECAUSE THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. OUR LAST APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED JANUARY 31,2009 THEY NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE. THE CAR STALLED AGAIN AT 45 MPH ALMOST CAUSING MY WIFE AND SEVEN MONTH OLD TO GET REAR ENDED. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AND WAS TOWED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO THE DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTROL MODULE, THE STARTER, AND THE STARTER RELAY WERE REPLACED ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE KEYLESS REMOTE WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
