CAR STALLS WITHOUT WARNING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 8 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. RECALL WAS ISSUED NOVEMBER 2019 WITH A TEMP FIX. I RECEIVED THE TEMP FIX IN JANUARY 2020. I HAD ANOTHER STALLING INCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY FEB 11 2020. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE. JEEP/CHRYSLER HAS BEEN LESS THAN HELPFUL.
MY WIFE 'KENDRA' WAS DRIVING THE SAID VEHICLE WHICH IS HER EVERY DAY VEHICLE TO A DOCTORS APPOINTMENT ON FEB. 7, 2020 AND THE FUEL PUMP RELAY SWITCH SHUT THE FUEL OFF CAUSING 5HE VEHICLE TO STALL AS WIFE WAS ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THROUGH A 6 LANE BUSY INTERSECTION. WIFE WAS TERRIFIED BECAUSE SHE COULDN'T MANEUVER VEHICLE TO SAFETY LEAVING HER STUCK WITH CARS TRAVELING AT 45-50 MPH THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND SHE COULDN'T SAFELY EXIT THE VEHICLE. SHE CALLED ME FOR HELP AND AS I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH HER TWO BARELY MISSED HER WITH SCREECHING BRAKES AND HER SCREAMING. I WAS 2 MINUTES FROM HER AND AS I WAS APPROACHING THE VEHICLE STARTED. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE HOME AND I IMMEDIATELY CALLED CHRYSLER ABOUT THE ISSUE BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY ATTEMPTED TO GET THE RECALL FIXED BUT THEY (ROCKWALL DODGE) SAID THE RECALL PART ISN'T AVAILABLE PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. CHRYSLER SAID I COULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ROCKWALL DODGE WHERE THEY COULD DO A 'TEMPORARY' FIX, WHATEVER THAT IS. THAT WAS FEB 7 2020 AND I'M IN A RENTAL WITH NO FIX OR 'TEMPORARY' FIX, THAT I CALL BS. THIS VERY DANGEROUS FOR VEHICLE OWNERS AND MAY CAUSE A DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY TO MOTORISTS. MY WIFE HAS TO DRIVE OVER A 4 MILE BRIDGE 4 LANES EAST AND 4 LANES WEST WITH ONLY AN OUTSIDE SHOULDER BETWEEN ROWLETT AND ROCKWALL TX WITH SPEED THAT VARY BETWEEN 70-90 MPH, IF IT WAS TO STALL THERE SHE'S VERY LIKELY TO BE HURT BAD OR KILLED. TO THIS DATE NO 'TEMPORARY' FIX AND NOW CHRYSLER AND ROCKWALL DODGE ARE TRYING TO MAKE ME PAY FOR A RENTAL. PLEASE PUT PRESSURE ON THEM TO RESOLVE THIS BEFORE THERE IS LOSS OF LIFE.

THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED OF SEVERAL UNKNOWN ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO PART AT THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 124,700.
AUTO MECHANIC SAYS THAT THE 5TH CYLLINDER IN THIS JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HEMI ENGINE IS PRONE TO FAIL. PROBABLY MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE FIFTH CYLINDER MISFIRE CAUSED CYLINDER TO DETERIORATE AND LEAK METAL INTO ENGINE CAUSING FAILURE. THE CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA..
FUEL PUMP RELAY - MY CAR STALLS WHEN IT WANTS AND TAKES OFF REALLY FAST WHEN IT WANTS, AND STARTS WHEN IT WANTS TO TRANSMISSION. - I AM TOLD THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION MY CAR IS SLIPPING GEARS
FLUID LEAKS FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND AC CONDENSER UNIT, DRIVER SIDE EDGE. SEVERAL SMALL POINTS LEAKS. MECHANIC SAID IT'S A COMMON TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK PROBLEM DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURE AND HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMBINED UNIT AT JEEP DEAR. SEARCH THE INTERNET, SEE QUITE A FEW COMPLAIN.
The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle intermittently failed to start-up without warning after several attempts. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shut-off with an unknown warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19V813000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Since then, consumer's vehicle has stalled multiple times without warning. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available. Consumer stated Jeep broke down again for the third time.

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PRESS THE START BUTTON ON THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT HAD TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THEY PLACED VEHICLE IN THE PARK POSITION. THE CONTACT'S WIFE NOTICED THAT SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET HIMSELF, HIS WIFE, AND CHILD OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE VEHICLE HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. A POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT WERE FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THEY HAVE HAD COMPLICATIONS DUE TO INHALING A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE, HOWEVER, THE CONTACT HAD NOT RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION AS OF YET. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED A CASE REGARDING THE MATTER WITH THE CASE NUMBER: [XXX]. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000. I HAD THE ORIGINAL RECALL DONE FOR THE FUEL PUMP RELAY, AFTER JUST OVER 2 YEARS IT STOPPED WORKING AND WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK THE CAR CAN'T START. THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD THE RECALL DONE AND IT WAS MORE THAN 2 YEARS, I WAS NO LONGER COVERED. I HAVE REPLACED IT TWICE ALREADY SINCE THEN. I JUST RECEIVED A LETTER FROM JEEP AND THEY HAVE PUT A SECOND RECALL ON THIS PART. HOWEVER THEY DON'T HAVE THE PART WHICH IS ABOUT $10 AND THE CAR WILL NOT START WITHOUT IT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND MAIN COMPANY AND WAS TOLD IF I HAVE A PROBLEM STARTING OR STALL WHILE DRIVING I AM TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL LOOK AT IT AND EVALUATE THE PROBLEM AND IF THE RELAY IS THE PROBLEM THEY WILL REPAIR IT WITH AN OVER THE COUNTER PART AND WILL CALL ME WHEN THE DEALERSHIP PART COMES IN. I ASKED HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO EVALUATE MY CAR IF IT WAS TOWED IN TO BE FIXED. NO ONE COULD GIVE ME AN ANSWER. ONLY SAYING ONCE THEY LOOK AT IT AND FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM THEN I WOULD BE NOTIFIED. HERE IS A QUOTE FROM THE LETTER THEY SENT ME ' A VEHICLE ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING CAN CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING '. SO MY QUESTION IS, IS THIS CAR SAFE TO DRIVE AS IS, AND IF NOT WHAT ARE MY CHOICES. THEY HAVE NO ANSWER FOR THIS. I AM INFORMING YOU OF THIS PROBLEM, THEY DIDN'T OFFER A RENTAL CAR WHEN I SAID WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS SITUATION. A $10 PART AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY, I KEEP 2 REPLACEMENTS IN THE GLOVE BOX IN CASE MY CAR DOESN'T START BUT I DIDN'T KNOW THE CAR CAN JUST STALL WHILE DRIVING. THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR EVERYONE THAT OWNS ONE OF THESE VEHICLES AND THE CARS AROUND THEM. MY CAR STALLED OUT ON A TURN AND I COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. I ALMOST HIT A CAR DUE TO THIS. JEEP HAS AN OPEN BUT UNFIXABLE RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO NUMEROUS PEOPLE AT CHRYSLER, MOPAR, AND DEALERSHIPS. THEY WILL NOT HELP. BASICALLY, TOLD ME THE FIX MAY OR MAY NOT HELP, BUT IT'S A TEMPORARY ONE. THERE IS NO REAL FIX TO IT. I AM TOO SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW. I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR KNOWING THAT IT CAN STALL OUT (AS IT ALREADY HAS), WHAT IF I HIT SOMEONE AND HURT MY FAMILY OR SOMEONE ELSE. SO PRETTY MUCH, THEY HAVE AN OPEN RECALL BUT WILL NOT HELP AND THERE IS NO FIX TO IT.
THIS VEHICLE HAS A FREQUENT ACCELERATION PROBLEM. STARTED WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM AN ON RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY, ESPECIALLY WHEN SLOWING TO AROUND 30 MPH AND ACCELERATING TO 55. NOW IT DOES TO EVERYTHING. TURNING FROM A STOP LIGHT INTO A HIGHWAY I FIND MY SELF HAVING TO FLOOR IT, CAUSING IT TO REV TO 4500 RPM'S AND STILL BARELY MOVING. ROUND ABOUTS ARE A STRUGGLE AS WELL, TRYING TO TURN OUT OF ONE AND SPEED UP IS HORRIBLE. EXTREMELY UNSAFE WHEN YOU HAVE A CHILD IN YOUR CAR AND YOUR TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND YOUR CAR WON'T MOVE.
THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A LOUD TAPPING SOUND FROM ENGINE AT IDLE AND WHILE DRIVING. MECHANIC DIAGNOSED IT WITH BAD LIFTERS. THE NEEDLE BEARINGS IN THE LIFTERS USED IN THIS ENGINE TEND TO FAIL. THE FAILURE CAUSES THE LIFTER BEARING TO SEIZE UP AND DAMAGE THE CAMSHAFT. HAD LIFTERS REPLACED TWO TIMES IN A 4 MONTH PERIOD. CAMSHAFT REPLACED ONE TIME. RESEARCH ON THE WEB SHOW SEVERAL EXAMPLES OF THIS SAME FAILURE IN HEMI 5.7L ENGINES. THE FAILURE CAN OCCUR ANYWHERE FROM 50,000 MILES TO OVER 100,000 MILES. THE COMMON CAUSE IS THE LIFTER BEARINGS FAILING AND DAMAGING THE CAMSHAFT. REPAIRS RANGE ANYWHERE FROM $3000-5000. THIS LEADS ME TO CONCLUDE THAT THE FAILURE IS DUE TO AN ENGINEERING DEFECT ON THE LIFTERS BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CONTACTED THE SAME DEALER AND PROVIDED THE DEALER WITH DIAGNOSTIC CODE (C2221-00 (FAILURE ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL (ELSD) MODULE DTCS AND OR THE DRIVE TRAIN CONTROL MODULE (DTCM) FROM A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL. THE DEALER REQUESTED THAT THE CONTACT TAKE THE VEHICLE IN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. I WAS DRIVING ON THE CAPITAL BELTWAY 495 IN MARYLAND WHEN ALL THE LIGHTS IN MY CAR CAME ON AND THEN TURNED OFF. AFTER THAT MY CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED ACCELERATING, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE ABS LIGHT AND A LIGHTNING BOLT LIGHT WHERE MY SPEED IS DISPLAYED STARTED FLASHING. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AFTER ALMOST GETTING REAR ENDED. WHEN I TRIED TO TURN MY CAR BACK ON ALL OF THE LIGHTS KEPT FLASHING AND THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OVER. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND MY CAR WAS FINALLY ABLE TO START. OFF AND ON MY CAR KEEPS TELLING MY TO CHECK MY GAS CAP EVEN THOUGH I'VE REPLACED IT AND IT'S ALWAYS ON THERE TIGHTLY.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER HEADREST SAFETY DEVICE DEPLOYED. HAD SOMEONE BEEN SITTING IN THE SEAT, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS HEAD AND NECK INJURIES. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED, IT APPEARS IT JUST FAILED DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE LOCKING MECHANISM. NOW WE ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE DRIVER HEADREST DEPLOYING WHILE WE ARE OPERATING THE JEEP AND IT CAUSING AN INJURY OR ACCIDENT.
THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH THE KEY FOB, AFTER LOCKING THE CAR THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK AND LOCK AGAIN WITH OUT MY CONTROL. THEN MORE ELECTRICAL ISSUES OCCURRED, THE LIGHTS FLICKERED, THE REAR CAMERA STOPPED WORKING, AND THEN DRIVING THE CAR EVENTUALLY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND IT WAS DANGEROUS AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE 405 FREE WAY AND I WAS UNABLE TO PULL OVER WITH OUT POWER STEERING.

WHILE I WAS WIPING DOWN THE DRIVER SIDE ACTIVE-HEADREST IT DEPLOYED ON IT'S OWN AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS OFF AND PARKED ON MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, I WAS CLEANING THE INSIDE OF THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE PART IN QUESTION IS THE DRIVER SIDE ACTIVE HEAD-REST. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT HE HAD SEEN 5 OF THESE AND IT HAPPENED BECAUSE THE PLASTIC CLIP THAT HOLDS THE HEADREST IN PLACE HAD DETERIORATED AND BROKE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS AND TO CALL FCA TO FILE A CLAIM TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR WHICH I DID. FCA TOLD ME IF I FIXED IT BEFORE THEY LOOK AT IT THEY WON'T PAY FOR THE REPAIR. FCA INFORMED ME THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME TO SET UP A TIME AND LOCATION TO LOOK AT MY CAR IN 2 TO 4 WEEKS. IN THE MEANTIME THEY SAID TO DRIVE IT AS IS WITH NO CONCERN FOR MY SAFETY. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND IF IT HAD HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.
I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, TURNED THE CORNER AND MY JEEP COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AS I WAS DRIVING. THE MESSAGE THAT CAME UP TOLD ME TO SERVICE MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND EVERY LIGHT ON MY DASH LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE. IT WOULD NOT START OR DO ANYTHING. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO MY HOUSE AND AM NOW HAVING TO TOW IT TO A DEALER.
REAR DRIVESHAFT CV JOINT FAILURE AT ~78,500 MILES. THE BOOT THAT CONTAINS THE BEARING GREASE FAILED AND LEFT A RING OF GREASE ON NEIGHBORING COMPONENTS. FAILED JOINT IS THE ONE THAT CONNECTS TO THE TRANSFER CASE. FROM ONSET OF SYMPTOMS (MILD CLICKING NOISE) TO NOTICEABLE DRIVELINE VIBRATION AND VERY LOUD POPPING IN CENTER OF VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN 100 MILES. UNSURE HOW MUCH LONGER I COULD HAVE DRIVEN BEFORE THE JOINT FAILED OR THE DRIVELINE VIBRATIONS DAMAGED THE TRANSFER CASE OR REAR AXLE. WHEN THE REAR DRIVESHAFT WAS REMOVED, I NOTICED A GREASE RING ON A FRONT DRIVESHAFT CV JOINT. THAT DRIVESHAFT WILL ALSO BE REPLACED.
