TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SOUTH COUNTY DODGE RAM CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (7127 S. LINDBERGH BLVD, ST.LOUIS, MO 63125) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRO HYUDRAULIC STEERING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER WAITING TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THIS JEEP HAS 36,000 MILES AND MY TIRES ARE WORN COMPLETELY OUT. MOST VEHICLES WILL GET A GOOD 60,000-70,000 BEFORE NEEDING TO REPLACED. I'M VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS. THIS JEEP YR AND MODEL HAS MANY RECALLS. JUST GOT ANOTHER FOR THE ALTERNATOR, WHICH DEALERSHIP HAS STRONGLY SUGGESTED NOT TO LEAVE TOWN, BECAUSE THE NEW PART IS NOT MADE YET. SO BETWEEN TIRES AND ALTERNATOR I FEEL LIKE I'M GROUNDED TO MY HOME TOWN.
I HAVE RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR MY VEHICLE WHICH EXPLAINS THAT THERE IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT WOULD IMPOSE A HAZARD TO MYSELF AND OTHER OCCUPANTS SAFETY AND THAT IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO TAKE STEPS TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER HAS NO CURRENT REMEDY SINCE THERE ARE NO PARTS AVAILABLE AND CANNOT PROVIDE ME WITH A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PARTS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND FEEL THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD PROVIDE A SAFE VEHICLE REPLACEMENT UNTILL THEY ARE ABLE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART(S)
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SO I TOOK MY JEEP INTO THE DEALER, MY JEEP HAS APPROX. 61K MILES, VERY GOOD CARE TAKEN, OIL CHANGES, ETC., HAS NOT EVEN NEEDED NEW BRAKES YET. DEALERSHIP SAYS THER IS SMALL EVAP LEAK IN EXHAUST SYSTEM - $285 LATER, THE LIGHT IS OFF. THEY ALSO TELL ME MY POWER STEERING IS LEAKING AND WILL GO OUT SOON, IT NEEDS A STEERING GEAR REPLACEMENT THAT WILL COST $1,955. I DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM. SERVICE MANAGER THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, BUT NO. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION SHOULD MY STEERING GO OUT AND SHOULD BE A RECALL AS MANY MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE.
HI ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2017, WHILE DRIVING MY BUS QUIETLY, I FEEL A STRANGE NOISE IN MY BUS JEEP, SUDDENLY WARMED UP, THEY TURNED ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE PANEL AND WENT OUT , WE CALLED THE SERVICE OF CRANE, TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TRIANGLE IN MAYAGUEZ, P.R. WHEN I GO TO THE DEALER, THEY NOTIFY ME THAT MY JEEP HAS AN ALTERNATOR RECALL (WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION, SINCE THE DEALER HAS MY WRONG ADDRESS IN HIS RECORD). THE DEALER NOTIFIES ME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PIECE IN THE WAREHOUSE AND THAT THEY HAVE TO ORDER IN FLORIDA AND THAT IT WILL TAKE MAYBE TWO WEEKS. MY HUSBAND, MR. HECTOR CABAN SEEING THAT THIS SITUATION WAS GOING TO BECOME A LITTLE DIFFICULT DECIDED TO RENT A A CAR AT ALLIED CAR. WE PAID $656.70 IN CAR RENTAL. THE DEALER PROMISED TO GIVE ME A CAR AND AT THIS MOMENT OCTOBER 26, 2017 NOTHING HAPPENS. CURRENTLY, I AM RESIDENT OF PUERTO RICO AND IN THIS PROCESS HURRACAINE MARIA ARRIVES IN PUERTO RICO ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2017. ACTUALLY THE DEALER INFORM TO ME THAT THEY HAVE NO LIGHTS NO SYSTEM AND THEY CANNOT FIX MY BUS PROMPTLY. ACTUALLY THEY INFORM TO ME THAT MY ALTERNATOR ARE IN THE DOCKS IN SAN JUAN, PR AND THESE TRUCKS ARE CONFISCATED BY FEMA, SINCE THE PRIORITY IS TO TAKE THE TRUCKS WITH FOOD AND WATER TO DISTRIBUTE TO THE VICTIMS OF HURRACAINE MARIA. I NEED TO RESOLVE THIS SITUATION, AND THE DEALER HAS TAKEN TOO LONG TO RESOLVE THIS, THEY ARE VERY NEGLIGENT AND NOT AT ALL EMPATHIC WITH THIS. THIS RECALL WAS IN JUNE, WHY I WAS NEVER WARNED, THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF I HAD BEEN CONTACTED VIA CELL PHONE OR EMAIL. THIS SITUATION WOULD NOT HAVE COME SO FAR, IF THEY HAD BEEN EFFICIENT. IN THE MIDST OF THIS CATASTROPHE I FIND MY HANDS TIED, FRUSTRATED AND I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE TRIANGLE DEALER IN MAYAGUEZ AND HIS MANAGER MR. ISMAEL MEDINA HAS MADE NO EFFORT TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, HIS CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE.
WHEN PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, FOOT BRAKE WAS APPLIED BUT ACCELERATOR REVVED UP AND CAR LURCHED FORWARD INTO TRAFFIC..BARELY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. CONTACTED ORIGINAL DEALER WHO SAID THIS WAS NOT A RECALL ITEM AND WAS DISMISSIVE. I REQUESTED THAT MY COMPLAINT BE PUT ON FILE.
MY JEEP HAS REPEATEDLY SHUTTERED AND STALLED WHEN STARTING, BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE TIPM RECALL WAS SERVICED. THE LOCKS ALSO POP ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY AND WON'T STOP. THE REAR TAIL LIGHT BULBS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES (IN EXCESS OF 4 TIMES). THERE IS ALSO A LONG GROAN THAT HAPPENS WHEN IDLING AND SOMETIMES WHEN DRIVING. THE CAR HAS BEEN UNABLE TO START PROPERLY AND SHAKES VIOLENTLY BEFORE JUST COMPLETELY SHUTTING ITSELF OFF WITHOUT PROMPT. I HAVE ASKED JEEP ABOUT IT 3X AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO ASSIST OTHER THAN PERFORM THE RECALL AFTER MAKING ME WAIT SEVERAL MONTHS FOR THE PARTS.

THE DRIVER COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND LATER TOWED TO NATIONAL DODGE (223 N MARINE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, NC 28546, PHONE: (910)347-3777). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO PART AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TIPM FAILURE. CAR WILL NOT TURN OVER. FORTUNATELY, I HAVEN'T DISCOVERED WHAT ELSE IS FAILING IN THE POWER MODULE, BUT DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED TO GET THIS RECALLED?
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON FRIDAY EVENING OF LABOR DAY WEEKEND (9/1/2017) THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IN MY VEHICLE WENT ON. I TOOK MY CAR TO A GOOD YEAR DEALERSHIP IN TOWN. THEY TOLD ME MY ALTERNATOR WAS GOING OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALLS ON THAT VEHICLE AT THAT TIME ALTHOUGH, I DO THINK ONE EXISTED. WHEN I CONTACTED JEEP ABOUT THIS THE FOLLOWING WEEK THEY INDICATED A RECALL WAS IN PLACE AND I NEEDED TO SUBMIT A FORM FOR REIMBURSMENT. I HAVE CHECKED WITH JEEP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY INDICATED THAT THEY HAVE THE NECESSARY PAPERWORK BUT WILL NOT BE ISSUEING REFUND CHECKS UNTIL 2018. THIS IS FIVE MONTHS AFTER I HAVE INCURRED THE EXPENSE AND SUBMITTED A REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT.
The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17E061000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall was unavailable. The contact called the local dealer who stated the parts were not available. The contact stated the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
ALTERNATOR CAUGHT FIRE, HEAVY SMOKE MINUTES AFTER THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON DASH. WAS ABLE TO CONTAIN FIRE TO ALTERNATOR WITH WATER HOSE. MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS NOW NOTED IN CAR, UNABLE TO SHIFT FROM PARK, CAR WILL NOT START. CAR ALSO STATING "PUSH CLUTCH TO START" ON DASH, VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A CLUTCH
STALLING AND FAILING TO START (STARTER KEEPS CRANKING BUT NEVER TURNS OVER)LEAVING ME STRANDED

AS THE VEHICLE IS PARKED, IT DOES NOT MATTER FOR 5 MINUTES OR 5 HOURS, WHEN THE START BUTTON IS DEPRESSED THE ENGINE TURNS OVER, BUT DOES NOT START. WHEN ATTEMPTED A SECOND TIME, IT WILL TURN OVER CONTINUSLY FOR 20 SECONDS, AND FAIL TO START. THE PROBLEM MY PERSIST FOR MANY ATTEMPS, OR MAY RECTIFY ITS SELF AND START.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (SUNLAND PARK DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM, 950 CROCKETT STREET, EL PASO, TX 79922) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE PARTS NOT BEING AVAILBLE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (POWER TRAIN). THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,700. WHILE DRIVING MY 2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON A BUSY 4 LANE HIGHWAY MY ALTERNATOR FAILED, RESULTING IN THE ENGINE STALLING. I HAD NO STEERING, NO BRAKES, NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR WHATSOEVER. FORTUNATELY I WAS GOING UP A HILL AND THE CAR CAME TO A STOP WITHOUT ANYONE BEING INJURED! I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE DEALER IS SAYING THAT RECALL P60 - WHICH COVERS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR - DOES NOT COVER MY CAR BECAUSE I HAVE A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR INSTEAD OF A 160 AMP, WHICH IS COVERED BY THE RECALL. HOW CAN CHRYSLER GROUP LIMIT THE RECALL BY THE AMPS WHEN CLEARLY THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO WITH MY 2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE??
MULTIPLE EPISODES OF EXTENDED CRANK WITHOUT START. ALSO SEVERAL EPISODES OF STALLING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING - 1X IN DRIVE BUT ANOTHER TIME ON HIGHWAY AT NIGHT IN TRAFFIC. ALL EPISODES HAVE HAPPENED IN 2017 STARING AUGUST THROUGH 'NOW'. CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALER SERVICE 4 X WITHOUT RESOLUTION. CURRENTLY WITH DEALER BEING OPERATED WITH A "FLIGHT RECORDER" AS THEY DID EXPERIENCE PROBLEM BUT COULDN'T IDENTIFY THE MECHANICAL SOURCE - THEY CONTACTED "CHRYSLER" FOR ADVICE. I'M LUCKY, I'M DRIVING A LOANER FOR 3 WEEKS NOW FROM MY DEALERSHIP.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ASTORG DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP (1501 7TH ST, PARKERSBURG, WV 26101, (304) 485-8585) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,004. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING WHILE IDLING AT A STOP, AND THEN THE ALTERNATOR BEGAN MAKING A WHINING NOISE AFTER VEHICLE BEGAN MOVING AND VEHICLE BEGAN THROWING CODES (CHECK PARK ASSIST) . AFTER SHUTTING CAR OFF IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. REPLACED ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, GROUND STRAPS AND CAR WOULD THEN START BUT CONTINUED GIVNG OFF CODES AND WOULDN'T RUN RIGHT. (WIPERS COMING ON BY THEMSELVES, ETC.) HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE COMPUTER BUT CHARGED ME $600 AND DENIED IT WAS RELATED TO THE ALTERNATOR. RECALL NOTICE THEN RECEIVED FOR ALTERNATOR, BUT I'M NOW OUT $1,244.21 FOR ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, GROUND STRAPS, TOW AND COMPUTER. PARTS NOT AVAILABLE BY JEEP TO FIX THE PROBLEM FOR THIS RECALL. HAVE SUBMITTED RECEIPTS TO JEEP BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL BE COVERED SINCE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX COMPUTER AS A RELATED EXPENSE TO THE ALTERNATOR.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE OIL FILTER HOUSING. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.*DT*JB
MY JEEP HAD THE FUEL PUMP RELAY CHANGED TO AN EXTERNAL TYPE AS PART OF PREVIOUS RECALL NHTSA 15V-115. I'M NOT SURE OF THE DATE AS IT WAS DONE PRIOR TO US BUYING THE VEHICLE. THE NEW EXTERNAL RELAY STARTED TO FAIL IN JULY 2017. IN HEAT SOAKED CONDITIONS, THE RELAY WOULD FAIL TO ACTIVATE. THE ONLY TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS DURING ENGINE START WHILE BEING STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. THE ENGINE WOULD START THEN STALL WITHIN FIVE SECONDS. I REPLACED THE RELAY AND TESTED THE OLD ONE. WHEN THE OLD RELAY IS WARM, I VERIFIED THAT IT DOESN'T ACTIVATE 100% OF THE TIME. THE RELAY PART NUMBER IS G8JN-1C6T-F-R-DC12. WE NEVER HAD A FAILURE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. I'M SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT SO NHTSA HAS AWARENESS OF THE RELAY THAT WAS INSTALLED. IT IS NOT A ROBUST RELAY WHICH MAY HAVE OTHER FAILURE MODES.
WILL NOT START. KEEP PRESSING AND TRYING AND FINALLY WILL START AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIES. DOES ATTEMPT TO TURN OVER BUT WILL NOT START. DEALERSHIP CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. CAR WAS ALWAYS IN PARK AND STATIONARY. SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER TRYING TO RESTART AFTER SHORT PERIODS OF TIME.
BOUGHT MY CAR FROM PARKS FORD OF WESLEY CHAPEL ON 7/16/17. 2 DAYS LATER, THE CAR HAD TROUBLE STARTING.MY MECHANIC LOOKED IT OVER. IT HAD A POWER STEERING RACK LEAK AND EMBEDDED DIRT UNDERNEATH ITS CARRIER. BROUGHT CAR BACK TO FORD. THEY FOUND NOTHING. CALLED AGAIN BECAUSE OF SAME PROBLEM. WAS TOLD BY MANAGER DUBER TO TRY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING CAR TO ENGAGE STARTER. DID NOT WORK. BROUGHT TO JEEP. THEY FOUND THAT A RECALL ON THE RELAY TO THE FUEL PUMP WAS NEVER FIXED. THEY ALSO SAID THE FRONT SHOCKS WERE BLOWN AND LEAKING AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WARRANTY COMPANY SAID THAT CAR HAD PREEXISTING CONDITIONS AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT. THIS GREAT PRICE WAS FALSE REPRESENTATION AND MISLEADING. I NEVER WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR KNOWING IT NEEDED ALL OF THIS WORK.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE/PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 76K MILES. SINCE AROUND 20K MILES, MY CAR HAS HAD ISSUES WITH STARTING THAT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, SLOW/NO RESPONSE FROM PUSH BUTTON START, SLOW/NO RESPONSE WITH SMART ENTRY SYSTEM WHEN LOCKING/UNLOCKING DOORS. ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE VERY INTERMITTENT. TO GO INTO MORE DETAIL ABOUT THE STARTING ISSUE, THE CAR WOULD START COMPLETELY, BUT THEN SHORTLY AFTER THE RPM WOULD DROP TO 0 AND THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WOULD STAY ON. WHEN TRYING TO PUSH THE START BUTTON AGAIN, IT WOULD TRY TO CRANK FOR 15 SECONDS. IT'S NECESSARY TO COMPLETELY POWER OFF THE CAR TO PROPERLY START THE CAR. SOMETIMES THE ISSUE PRESENTS ITSELF IMMEDIATELY AFTER. THESE ISSUES HAPPEN WITH BOTH KEY FOBS EVEN AFTER SWITCHING TO FRESH BATTERIES. I'VE TAKEN IT TO JEEP DEALERSHIP 4-5 TIMES WITH NO RESOLUTION. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP RELAY TWICE FOR ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE STARTING ISSUE. THEY WERE NEVER ABLE TO DUPLICATE OR NO CODES WOULD PRESENT THEMSELVES. I HAVE STRONG SUSPICION OF THE TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) FAILING, WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY $1200 TO REPLACE. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, JEEP WILL NOT REPLACE UNTIL DUPLICATED. I EVEN LEFT THE CAR AT JEEP FOR A WEEK ONE OF THOSE VISITS. THE ISSUES HAPPEN ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY OR ON A VERY BAD WEEK, EVERY DAY THE CAR IS USED. JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY POOR AND I'VE BEEN STUCK WITH THIS ISSUE FOR WAY TOO LONG. THE STARTING ISSUE EVEN HAPPENED TODAY, TWICE.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY I WAS HIT IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR BUT I LOOKED AROUND AND THERE WAS NO CARS AROUND. I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AT MY HEADREST AND IT EXPLODED AND HIT ME IN THE HEAD. I CALLED AND BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO JEEP WHO SAID IT WAS THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT AND IT IS SET TO GO OFF DURING AN ACCIDENT. I TOLD THEM I WAS NOT IN ANY ACCIDENT. I THEN CALLED JEEP DIRECTLY WHO TOLD ME THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE AND THAT I SHOULD LEAVE MY CAR AT JEEP. THAT WAS 3 WEEK AGO. ALL OF MY ATTEMPT TO CONTACT JEEP TO HAVE THEM RECTIFY THE ISSUE AND REPLACE MY HEADREST HAVE GONE NO WHERE. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY CALL BACKS AND EVERY TIME I CALL THEM THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO EXCEPT WAIT UNTIL I AM CONTACTED BY JEEP. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AS I COULD HAVE RUN OFF THE ROAD AN CRASHED.

I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE, WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE VEHICLE'S DISPLAY PANEL STARTED TO FLASH VARIOUS MESSAGES (I.E. PARK BRAKE ASSIST, SAFETY BELT, BATTERY, ETC.). WHILE THIS HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOOSE POWER AND I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE SLOWLY INTO A PARKING LOT, IN WHICH IT CREPT INTO A COMPLETE STOP. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN IT BACK ON AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK NOR WOULD ANY LIGHTS TURN ON. I HAD A FRIEND TRY AND JUMP THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT HOLD A CHARGE, AND THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SMELL COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED AND BROUGHT TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP, WERE THEY HAD DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

I BOUGHT THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. THE CAR IS A 2013. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THEY INFORMED ME THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS SEEMS RIDICULOUS CONSIDEING THE CAR IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. I ENDED UP HAIGB TO PAY OVER $300 FOR A NEW PASSENGER SEAT BELT INCLUDING INSTALLATION. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT? WHY IS SUCH A NEW SEAT BELT FAILING? SHOULD I WORRY THAT MY DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WILL FAIL AS WELL? AFTER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR ABOUT 10 MINS, I WAS SLOWING DOWN DUE TO TRAFFIC AHEAD. WHEN I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THEY FELT HARD TO APPLY PRESSURE AND MY CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. I HAD TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SLOWLY OFF THE HIGHWAY TO THE OFF RAMP I WAS NEAR AND TO A NEARBY DEALERSHIP. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE BRAKE BOOSTER RECALL PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY. SINCE I ALREADY HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED, THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS NOT COVERED. IF I NEVER HAD BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL, THE REPLACEMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED. SEEMS WEIRD TO REWARD PEOPLE WHO DON'T BOTHER TO HAVE THE RECALLS PERFORMED ON THEIR VEHICLES. I BEGAN HAVING DIFFICULTY STEERING AND TURNING MY VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SHOP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND MENTIONED THE ISSUE TO THE MECHANIC. THEY FOUND THAT MY 2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH 39K MILAGE, THAT I HAVE ONLY BEEN DRIVING FOR 9MONTHS, HAD BEEN LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID AND THE LINE WAS DRY. AFTER DISCOVERY THIS ISSUE, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND RESERVOIR HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THIS REPAIR MY CAR DROVE FINE FOR ABOUT 100 MILES, BUT NOW THE STEERING HAS FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING 30MPH IN CITY TRAFFIC ON THE WAY TO WORK.

I CALLED JEEP AND THEY SAID I HAD DIFFERENT ALTERNATOR, BUT I HAD SAME PROBLEM/ISSUE, NOT FAR TO BE NOT COVERED. TOTAL BILL $2K FOR ALTERNATOR/BATTERY/STARTER/TOWING AND COMPUTER FIX. NOT TO MENTION I DIDN'T HAVE USE OF JEEP FOR DAYS WHILE IT WAS GETTING FIXED. I WAS LUCKY I DIDN'T HAVE ACCIDENT, WHICH COULD HAVE HAPPENED NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS GOING ON AT TIME AND COULD YOU IMAGINE JEEP DYING ON HIGHWAY. JEEP HAS NO CLUE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN, NOR BEING FAIR TO ALL CONSUMERS, LEAVING THEM STRANDED AND BROKE.

ON SATURDAY 3/11/2017 I ATTEMPTED TO BACK MY JEEP DOWN AND OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES FELT STRANGE, AND THAT AS I DEPRESSED THE PEDAL THE JEEP WAS NOT STOPPING. CONFUSED, I HIT THE E-BRAKE TO STOP THE JEEP AND ATTEMPTED TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES TO SEE IF THERE WAS RESISTANCE. THE PEDAL FELT BETTER, BUT I COULD HEAR A HISING SOUND, LIKE A VACUUM LEAK. I WENT ON LINE AND SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM FOR MY VEHICLE, WHICH COINCIDENTALLY WAS THE SAME PROBLEM I HAD EXPERIENCED. WHAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION WAS THAT THE RECALL MENTIONED WATER INTRUSION INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THE POTENTIAL FOR FREEZING AND REDUCING THE BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS. I LIVE IN PITTSBURGH, PA, AND FOR 3 DAYS PRIOR TO MY BRAKE ISSUE IT HAD BEEN RAINY, AND MILD. FRIDAY NIGHT 3/10, THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED AND SATURDAY MORNING 3/11 IT WAS 20 DEG F. I CANT HELP BUT THINK THE TEMPERATURE, AND MOISTURE PLAYED A ROLE IN THIS INCIDENT. I'M JUST GLAD IT HAPPENED RIGHT AWAY INSTEAD OF ONCE I GOT OUT INTO TRAFFIC. USED FACTORY AUTO START AND THE ALTERNATOR SHORTED CAUSING THE ENGINE COMPUTER TO BURN OUT AND POSSIBLE THE FUSE BOX AS WELL. CAR WOULD NOT START AND MUST BE TOWED TO MECHANIC. LUCKILY WE WEREN'T IN THE CAR WHEN IT STARTED SMOKING UP.
ALTERNATOR FAILED AT 35118 MI. HAD IN REPAIR TWICE FOR ISSUES WHEN DRIVING. LOUD WHINE, BURNING SMELL AND SMOKE REPORTED. FIRST TIME DEALER KEEP CAR FOR OVERNIGHT AND SAID THEY COULD FIND NO ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD SMELLED THE BURNING SMELL TOO. SECOND TIME THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY ALTERNATOR. THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, I PICKED UP THE CAR, DROVE 2 MILES AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. I RETURNED IMMEDIATELY AND THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR 3 MORE DAYS. THE FAILED ALTERNATOR HAD "ARCED" TO THE POWER TRAIN, AND THEN THAT HAD TO BE REPLACE TOO (THAT UNDER WARRANTY THANK GOODNESS). BUT ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED FOR $1000 OUT OF MY POCKET EVEN THOUGH VERY LOW MILEAGE BECAUSE WAS OVER 3 YR WARRANTY PERIOD. IN RESEARCHING HOW COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED SO EARLY, I FOUND THAT THE 160 ALTERNATORS FROM THE SAME PERIOD HAD BEEN RECALLED, BUT THE 180'S ARE NOT (AT LEAST NOT YET....I AM HOPING TO HELP INITIATE ANOTHER RECALL SINCE I SEE ONLINE THAT OTHERS WHO HAVE THIS MODEL AND YEAR AND 180 ALTERNATOR HAVE HAD SAME ISSUES AS ME). I WAS ENCOURAGED BY FCA CUSTOMER CARE TO FILE A PETITION FOR REIMBURSEMENT, AND HAVE JUST HEARD FROM THEM THAT THEY HAVE DECLINED IT SINCE MY VIN ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. TO BE SPECIFIC ABOUT THE EPISODES, I WAS DRIVING BOTH TIMES THAT THIS OCCURRED. BOTH TIMES I HAD JUST STARTED TO DRIVE AND THE CAR MADE A LOUD WHINING NOISE THAT LASTED FOR A BIT, AND INCREASED ON ACCELERATION, AND QUICKLY I COULD SMELL SOMETHING LIKE BURNING RUBBER AND SEE SMOKE. I WAS AFRAID THE CAR WAS GOING TO STOP SUDDENLY BECAUSE IT STARTED TO BE JERKY, AND WHEN I CAME TO STOP LIGHT IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. BUT IT KEPT GOING, AND I DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER BOTH TIMES.
DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS AND WIPERS COME ON RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WON'T START ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AFTER SHUTTING OFF. TACHOMETER AND ANALOG TEMP GAUGE ARE APPROX. 90 DEGREES OFF.
AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR SHUT OFF AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I BARELY MADE IT SAFELY TO MY DESTINATION. WE CALLED OUR JEEP DEALER AND THERE WERE A FEW RECALLS. WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE JEEP TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY. THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL ON THE ALTERNATOR FOR THE 2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (P60/NHTSA 14V-634); HOWEVER, THEY CLAIM THAT MY 180 AMP IS NOT COVERED. WHAT I EXPERIENCED IS EXACTLY LIKE THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS RECALL. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING WHEN THIS OCCURRED, BECAUSE I DON'T THINK MY WIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP. THEY ARE NOT HONORING THE RECALL TO REPLACE MY PARTS. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY ARE NOT INCLUDING MY VEHICLE IN THE RECALL BECAUSE ITS 180 AMPS; HOWEVER, THIS IS A TREMENDOUS RISK TO ANY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE AND I WAS NOT NOTIFIED.
