NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
While driving down the road my active headrest randomly deployed and hit me hard in the back of the head. When I went to look at it to reset (because there had been no accident or collision) I saw that the plastic locking pins had broken. I researched the issue and saw that there was already a MOPAR recall for the same issue on the same year and model vehicle I have, but my VIN is not listed as an affected VIN so Jeep will not honor the recall for my product.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V411000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) and 22V406000 (FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL) but the failure occurred. The contact stated that two days after the vehicle was repaired, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact arrived at the grocery store and after the contact walked back to the vehicle, the contact became aware of an unknown part hanging down from underneath the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact became aware that the reluctor ring had detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the reluctor ring had detached. The contact was informed that the part was not available and needed to be ordered. The contact was advised to not drive the vehicle for long periods to avoid the engine overheating. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the dealer wrapped a rag around the connector in case of any leaks. The contact stated that failure persisted. The vehicle remained at the residence and had not been driven since. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the rag the dealer placed in the vehicle was soaked. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 126,900.
While driving home from work on March 13, 2026, the alternator in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (3.0L EcoDiesel) failed, resulting in a progressive loss of electrical power. As battery voltage dropped, the vehicle entered “limp mode.” When I was aproximatly 1 mile from my home when I was forced to stop at a railroad crossing while a freight train was passing. At that time, due to low voltage, the electronic shifter and ignition system became completely unresponsive. I was unable to shift the vehicle into Park or Neutral and was also unable to shut off the engine. The vehicle remained in Drive, requiring constant brake pressure to prevent forward movement. This created an immediate and dangerous situation, as I was stopped very close to a moving train with no functional means of securing or disabling the vehicle. Any loss of braking force or control could have caused the vehicle to enter the path of the train, creating a high likelihood of serious injury or death. After reaching my residence, the condition persisted. I remained unable to shift or shut down the vehicle and was forced to manually disconnect the negative battery cable, which is located under the passenger seat, in order to stop the engine. I am very lucky that I had a small metric socket set in the vehice, that I am somewhat mechanically enclined, and that I have long arms & legs, as this process was extremely difficult. I had to disconect te battery cable while maintaining my foot on the brake to avoid crashing into my garage. The vehicle appears to be designed such that engine shutdown is not permitted unless the vehicle is in Park, while the electronic shifter becomes inoperative during low-voltage conditions. This combination creates a hazardous failure mode in which the driver cannot place the vehicle in Park or turn off the engine during an electrical failure. This incident appears consistent with hazards identified in NHTSA Campaign Number 16V240000 (Recall S27). Despite records indicating that rec
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) and 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); and requested to be removed from the recall distribution list. The local dealer and manufacturer were contacted.
Drivers airbag did not deploy in car accident that included substantial front and back end damage to vehicle. This vehicle was purchased used, and from a used car dealership just months prior to accident. Buyer had vehicle further inspected by a neutral third party to ensure safety. The side impact airbags deployed on impact. Head injuries were sustained when drivers head hit the sun visor then the windshield. There are pictures of the vehicle after the accident. The vehicle is currently in possession of the insurance company in another state. There was no indication that the airbag was defective prior to the accident.
Component/System Failure: The internal fuel pump relay within the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM-7) failed. This component is not available for inspection as it is an internal board-mounted relay, but the dealership-installed External Bypass Relay (Part #CBWPR091AA) and the failed fuel pumps are documented on the attached service invoice. Safety Risk: The failure caused an unpredictable engine stall at highway speeds in heavy traffic. This resulted in a complete loss of motive power while moving, creating an immediate risk of a rear-end collision and leaving the vehicle stranded in a live lane of traffic. Confirmation: The technician documented a terminal 'static pressure drop' to 35 PSI (Spec is 58 PSI). Based on this confirmed low-pressure state, the dealer required the replacement of both the Main Fuel Pump and the Siphon/Auxiliary Transfer Pump, alongside the installation of the External Bypass Relay Kit (Part #CBWPR091AA) to restore safe operation." Inspection: The vehicle was inspected and repaired by the authorized manufacturer representative (Larson Chrysler Jeep). I have also opened a formal case with Stellantis Corporate (Case # 96059987). Warning Symptoms: There were no warning lamps, MIL messages, or starting issues prior to the initial stall. The 'Long Crank' and failure-to-start symptoms occurred immediately after the highway-speed stalls. The vehicle would not restart until it had sat for a period of time, indicating a thermal failure (heat soak) of the internal fuel pump relay. This resulted in the vehicle being stranded in live traffic multiple times while waiting for the component to cool and allow a restart "Note: The attached repair invoice from Larson Jeep contains a clerical typo in the VIN (listing a 'D' instead of a 'B'). The dealership has been contacted to provide a corrected copy, but the technical diagnostics and repair were Selling Dealer: Titus Will Used Cars Lakewood, WA Servicing / Repair Dealer: Larson Jeep Puyallup, WA
RE: The Power Liftgate Module Malfunction Approximately 45 days ago I began to see water build up inside the well where the liftgate locks. After seeing this twice - after it rained - I was at the dealership for an oil change and asked them to take a look. After review they suspected water intrusion, as there was a recall but not specifically on my VIN. Dealership indicated water tests were needed and I needed to drop my car off for the day or 2. They also indicated to seek your help because of the recall. I couldn't leave my car there that day. On 3/28/26 I did several water tests on the hatchback, using a hose and controlled the flow over the different sections of the hatchback in grid fashion of 6 sections. Each section I sprinkled water like a light rain and then waited 60 mins to see if the water would make it into the lock well. After checking I dried the lock well and then waited another hour to be sure no additional water came into the lock well, before continuing the process over the course of that day and the next. Each time water intruded, entered the inside of the vehicle into the lock well. After conducting research on this issue, the recall stated that this could cause a fire, and not to park the car inside of the garage or near other vehicles. As a result, the hatchback is malfunctioning, it opens and then automatically reverses, and it closes. It will not stay open and is not usable. I'd like to bring it back to the dealership for further testing however, I'd also like to get this resolved in the same visit as I'm sure they will find the same outcome of water intruding causing the electrical issues with the liftgate. Due to it being a fire hazard, I'm afraid to use my vehicle. Can you assist so I don't need to leave my one and only vehicle with the dealership for more than a day or two?
As I was on my home on 2/20/26, I encountered some issues. I made a right turn onto the highway and my vehicle did a little drift but made this weird sound and the front end shook. There were no warning lights or dings that came across the dash. I pulled over into the closest parking lot to see if I could notice anything. I couldn't because I only had the light from a parking lot lamp. So decided to try and make it home which was another 15 minutes away. As I got back on the road and pressed the accelerator, I could here ticking sounds coming from the rear of the vehicle. When I approached the next traffic light and pressed the brakes, the front end shook, making the steering wheel shake, and the rear end drifted left. I made another left and pressed the accelerator. I got up to around 40 phone. The vehicle started pulling to the left and then stabilizing. I turned to my suspension articulation screen. As I was driving and the vehicle still scaring me to the point of a heart-a-stroke, I could see the axles trying to maintain contact with the road. At the same time giving me the feel of a loose steering wheel and a bad suspension. The vehicle continued to shift and shake and feel loose. When you turn into my neighborhood and before my house, there are two deep curves and a lake. I went into the first curve fine until the end of it. (At this time the lake is on my passenger side). As I was coming out of it, the steering wheel feels like its hard to turn or locked. I have to turn left into the second curve. The vehicle would not turn and the rear end felt like it was drifting right. At the edge of the road there is a slight downhill and the lake about 50 ft or so. Luckily, I was able to make the turn before going of the side of the road. Once I made it through the curve, the vehicle did do some shaking, loose steering, shaking, and back end motion until I parked in the yard. Its been parked since then. Thank you for your patience and attention to this matter.
The air bag light on the dash came on . Not sure what to do
I took my car to the dealer for the recalls. They are basically only putting a band aid on the issue. They are telling me they did both recalls but it didn't fix the issue. Klaben in Kent Ohio. They basically did just a flash on it but that didn't fix the issue (LOSS OF CRANKSHAFT POSITION). Everything I read said the reluctor wheel needs replaced and they are telling me the vehicle is too old and won't fix. This is all part of the recall. If you have any questions please call me. I am reporting a safety-related issue involving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 5.7 HEMI. Within days of purchase, the vehicle experienced transmission slipping and delayed shifting, as well as braking issues. These conditions affected drivability and raised safety concerns during normal operation. An independent mechanic found burnt transmission fluid, indicating that the transmission condition likely existed prior to purchase. Although a fluid change provided limited, temporary improvement, delayed shifting continues to occur. Because the transmission behavior and braking issues can affect the safe operation of the vehicle, I am submitting this report so the issue can be documented and evaluated for potential safety trends. This report is being submitted for safety tracking purposes.
I was rolling up to a red light. The jeep shut down on a main road. The battery light, ABS, and power saver mode went on. The power steering shut off and then the car shut off. I was unable to move the vehicle. I wait 5 minutes then started the car again and got it rolled into the nearest parking lot
Driver side Headrest Airbag Yes vehicle is available for inspection. No accident Yes injury The driver side headrest airbag deployed while driving without an accident happening. I suffered whiplash and headaches after the incident that happened on January 18th, 2026. The headrest airbag deploying could have caused an accident but lucky for me I was able to pull my vehicle over safely. There is a possibility of going to the doctors if neck pain and headaches continue. I will be taking it to the dealership on Tuesday January 20th, 2026 to find out what caused the airbag to deploy. It has not been inspected yet but will be tomorrow January 20th, 2026. No warning lights came on before or during the airbag deploying.

Hello I have a 2014 grand Cherokee 3.6 and the oil cooler went out again .. this is TH 3RD TIME. The last 2 times I pay out of pocket for it but now 3 different mechanics told me there’s either a recall or something with the oil cooler when jeep has to fix it. I don’t want to pay another $1000 again PLEASE HELP ME OUT JEEP OF LOWELL DIDNT HELP AT ALL
My driver seatbelt is no longer retracting back to original position. Passenger seat won't retract out and is now hanging loose. Very unsafe.
The seatbelt I has stopped retracting on the passenger side of the vehicle and is now occurring on the driver side of the vehicle as well. This is a safety concern.
The Anti-lock braking system and the electronic traction control system are both failing. There were previous recalls on both systems that say they have been repaired, but the lights for both are constantly on. The brakes do not work fully, and it has caused me to slide down the street from my workplace. The electronic traction control system not working has caused it so that my four-wheel drive does not work, and I have gotten stuck in the snow multiple times. The car has been inspected by a repair technician. The warning lights came on right as the problem was happening.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low power voltage and several unknown warning lights illuminated and went off. In addition, the red battery warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the nearest parking lot and the vehicle was turned off. The contact stated that a nearby driver attempted to jumpstart the vehicle. The contact stated that while the nearby driver attempted to jumpstart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to start. In addition, the contact inspected the vehicle and stated that the alternator appeared to be completely inoperable. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact purchased a new alternator and installed the new alternator. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle started. The contact stated that immediately after the replacement of the alternator, the new alternator started to burn out. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not associated. The dealer was made aware of the failure but did not assist. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 164,334.
On November 6, 2025 at 11:59 AM, the active head restraint on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited deployed without impact as I adjusted the driver’s seat into an upright position. This was a spontaneous mechanical deployment inside the cabin of a stationary vehicle. The dealership confirmed this as a known failure involving the internal plastic retaining clip that holds the deployment pin. This defect was previously covered under a 10-year extended warranty that expired in November 2024. At the time of the incident, I was alone in the vehicle. I later sought medical evaluation for head, neck, shoulder, and lower back pain and was diagnosed with a cervical strain. Because this failure occurs without collision, it presents a serious risk of injury to drivers and passengers. I regularly spend time with elderly individuals in personal, non-commercial contexts and occasionally transport others in my personal vehicle. In such a population, an in-cabin mechanical deployment of this force could cause catastrophic injury. The manufacturer and warranty programs have declined to assist with repair due to expiration despite acknowledging this as a known defect. Estimated repair cost is approximately $1,000. I am submitting this report for documentation, safety tracking, and defect pattern analysis. 1. The battery is consistently being drained from an unknown issue, mechanic unsure. In two years it has need 3 batteries. This causes start issues, window closing issues, and the radio screen console issues. 2. The transmission gets stuck in third now needing a new transmission. Was told only a new transmission will fix issue.
Engine and power train components show failure. Remanufactured 3.6 L pentastar engine camshaft journals and bearings show circumferential scoring from oil starvation. Rocker arm needle bearings failed shedding debris that clogged oil passages. Technician said root cause is oil pressure retention issue or internal contamination. Not caused by improper oil level but a design defect. Teardown report and photos available.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at night, it was difficult to see the roadway clearly. The contact stated that she had issues with cataracts and attributed the lack of illumination on the road to her condition. The contact stated that she avoided driving at night until she had to attend an event at night and asked her son to drive. The contact’s son also witnessed the lack of illumination on the roadway from the headlights. The contact stated that after returning to the residence, the contact’s son parked the vehicle facing a wall, and both observed that the passenger’s side headlamp was illuminating the driveway directly below and in front of the vehicle, and the driver's side headlight was illuminating the trees. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer, and the headlight assemblies were taken apart and then reinstalled and recalibrated. The contact stated that the dealer was unable to repair the headlights and stated that there was a fault in the headlamp assemblies that could not be repaired. The contact stated that the same dealer had replaced both headlamps in 2019 due to a failure to operate as needed. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,875.
The dealership says that they repair the open recall, but it still shows that the issue hasn’t been fixed.

Was getting ready to go to town, opened back seat for daughter to get into vehicle, and all of a sudden the front seat headrest popped out. Was very scary. Thankfully no one was in the front seat when it happened. I could only imagine there would have been some pain/injury sustained if they were. There were no warnings. No other malfunctions. Headrest is not able to be "clicked" back into place as a bracket is broken inside. There has not been any investigation by manufacturer, police or insurance reps.
Subject: Safety Defect Report – Failure of Telematics Module (TCU) Causing Loss of 9-1-1 Emergency Function, Electrical System Malfunctions, and Potential Brake Booster Recall Defect (2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee) Dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint because my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is experiencing multiple safety-related failures that I believe are part of a wider defect pattern affecting this model year. Several of these issues involve systems that are critical for emergency safety, braking, and vehicle control. Dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint because my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is experiencing multiple safety-related failures that I believe are part of a wider defect pattern affecting this model year. Several of these issues involve systems that are critical for emergency safety, braking, and vehicle control. ⸻ 1. Telematics Control Unit (TCU) Failure Causing Loss of 9-1-1/SOS Emergency Function My Jeep is displaying repeated “Service Emergency Vehicle Phone” errors and the SOS/911 emergency button no longer functions. This is a major safety concern, especially in the event of an accident or breakdown. The TCU failure also causes: •Uconnect 8.4 system not booting •HVAC controls becoming non-functional or unsafe (blowing incorrect temperatures, failing to defrost, turning off unexpectedly) •Random system resets •Loss of ability to control climate during driving (creating visibility issues in cold/wet weather) These issues align with widespread failures of the Uconnect 8.4 / TCU hardware on 2013–2015 Grand Cherokees, which were not included in a recall despite many vehicles exhibiting the same dangerous symptoms. ⸻ 2. TCU-Related CANBUS Interference Causing Transmission and Drivability Safety Issues When the TCU fails, the vehicle experiences: •Transmission communication errors •Vehicle entering limp mode unexpectedly •“Service Transmission” and “Press Brake to Shift” warnings •Delayed or unpredictable shi
The seat belt does not retract. There is a crack where the seat belts enter the post and compresses the seat belt. I took it to the dealer and they would love to fix it but there are no parts available so they can not do anything. In summary we use the seatbelt only as a decoration piece so we do not get ticket it by non-using a seat belt. I asked the dealer if I could try to fix it my myself but he believes I will void the warranty. Not having a seatbelt is a major safety issue, that's why I write to you. Suggestion: (1) or Mopar gets the parts available to the dealer or (2) we do not penalized the user for trying to fix it. This is my wife car [XXX] ) she is [XXX] /o. Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 77,795, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 196,000.
We were driving this weekend and the headrest components failed and blew it apart. It shoved my husbands head forward really hard. We pulled over and tried to fix it but all the pieces are snapped inside of it. From our understanding that is a safety feature that is supposed to happen in a crash but we were not in a crash, just doing 55 mph down the road. It was not inspected by anyone yet but from reading online forums this seems to be a common occurrence.
Had a catastrophic fuel system failure and was repaired on the Z46 recall the dealer had my vehicle for 2 months and finally got me a loaner after 30 days. Vehicle was finally repaired after 2 months, drove for approximately 2 months and less than 400 miles and it failed again showing a code of low fuel pressure the same as last time had vehicle towed back to same dealership after making appointment and they have had it for 2 weeks and still have not even run a diagnostic check and are refusing to offer me a loaner.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling in the driveway, the front driver's side headrest deployed unintendedly. The contact did not sustain any injury. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the headrest was no longer covered under warranty, and the headrest replacement would be at the owner’s expense. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
Drivers seat headrest, popped apart while driving. Hit back of drivers head with loud sound, scaring driver and jerking neck, while driving. Checked for recall, none shown.
The monostable shifter malfunctions constantly. Safety-related concerns include it not staying in park when parked, rolling has occurred; not being able to start due to it not actually being in park; it will switch gear while driving and vehicle will go into limp mode and shut off within seconds, then will not be able to restart. I cannot count on it starting or getting me anywhere safely and have towed multiple times now. The problem has unfortunately not been reproduced or realized by local dealership even with ‘service shifter’, ‘until you reach a desired location you may not be able to shift again NO BUS’, and engine light warning lights appearing when driven. It has been taken twice to John Hiester Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Sanford. (NC). I have spoken with Jeep Customer Care to no avail and the answer is take to a certified dealership but that option is proving to not be successful. I purchased in February 2025 but became disabled right after and haven’t realized it’s very major issues. Not being able to use my vehicle is quite isolating [XXX]. Jeep recalled the oil cooler as it can crack and cause leaking into the coolant yet the problem still persists. This can be inspected on my vehicle at any time. Jeep is claiming that since it was “repaired” (recalled) this is a customer problem. I have been quoted over 10k to fix a problem that was never correct from the recall Jeep performed. Jeep has failed in this recall remedy and are pushing customers to fix repairs as a result of their failed actions. Failed oil coolers can cause the vehicle to catch fire which could burn down someone’s home if the car catches fire while parked in a garage or structure. The nearby Jeep dealer called and confirmed that the issues I am currently having is a result of the cracked and recalled replacement oil cooler. There are countless number of people online how have also had the same issue and been told by Jeep and dealerships that this is now a customer responsibility because they provided a “warranty” in addition to the recall. The warranty is a result of a class action law suit against Jeep for emissions issues. I did not and do not have any warning light on my vehicle. I just had evidence of coolant leaking with a coolant smell when in front of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V699000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure occurred. The contact stated that coolant had leaked onto the driveway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the radiator was fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the EGR cooler failed (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and there was coolant intrusion into the oil. The contact was informed that the EGR cooler needed to be replaced, along with the coolant bottle, the upper and lower radiator hoses, and possibly the high-pressure fuel pump. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the warranty had expired. The contact was informed that the recall repair was completed with an upgraded part. The failure mileage was approximately 173,000.
I purchased a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. The seller claimed the mileage was around 76,800 at the time of sale. After the purchase, a vehicle history report (Carfax/AutoCheck) showed that the actual mileage was approximately 223,000. This means the odometer reading was rolled back or misrepresented. The title paperwork shows a false mileage disclosure. This problem puts consumers at risk because the true condition of the vehicle is hidden, making it unsafe to rely on maintenance records or expected performance. It is also a violation of federal odometer laws. The issue has been confirmed by the vehicle history report, and all documents are available for inspection if requested.
Engine light came on: took in for service. The dealer recommends replacing a damaged Intake Manifold for $2,247. 33. It appears there are recalls on these for same year as my vehicle involving both Jeep and Ram Trucks. However My vin does not fall into the recall? I find this odd and I understand there has to be a cut off, but i believe my vehicle was made around the same time and I don’t think Chrysler was aware of the problem until later… I also have Engine Oil cooler leaking which I am unsure if it is related, but now I have extensive repairs for Coolant flushing/ radiator hoses and coolant hoses, metal fuel lines, and thermostat… I am just disappointed that a recall is valid on the same model and year as mine, I was unaware and now I have a $8,570.40 quote to get this fixed. I am wondering if the EGR cooler failure has led to this massive problem as I am aware the engine oil cooler and EGR cooler are releated along with manifold function/ efficiency. Now I have Oil and coolant mixing in my system… If my eco diesel jeep were included in the original recall, I may not be dealing with this unexpected visit. The anti collision avoidance systems did not engage. Instead it seemed the vehicle sped up. It did not engage to stop a collision, I was at almost a stop. Vehicle seemed to speed up. Anti-collision systems did not engage at all. This system worked previously. It did not brake automatically nor avoid a collision. It caused an accident & there were minor injuries & totaling 2 vehicles mine (2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland) & the other party to accidents truck.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle jerked, and the transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral. An unknown warning light flashed on the instrument panel. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact waited for a few minutes. The vehicle restarted and the vehicle functioned as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. However, no cause for the failure was found. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V447000 (POWER TRAIN). However, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure recurred, and the vehicle was parked and no longer driven due to safety concerns. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The headrests activator failed on the driver’s seat and hit me in the back of the head. I was driving about 35mph. This vehicle has never been in an accident. A week later the same thing happened in the passenger seat to a passenger. Upon inspection the plastic failed that secures the latch-pin. We were never notified about this problem!
Car slips into neutral while on highway. Car continues to go from drive to neutral. Mechanic states new transmission necessary. Contacted Chrysler Jeep dealer they stated all recalls complete not their problem.
My TCM (Transmission Control Module). Yes. While driving my jeep kept shifting into Nuetral all by itself and I would have to shift back into Drive. This is going into my jeep dealer on 8-5 and put on the diagnostic test. It was only checked out by plugging in the meter and this is the code that came back. Has not been inspected by police, insurance, Jeep dealer as of yet until 8-5-25. Yes it went from shifting g into Nuetral by itself to Slow g down on its own and it happened most recently on a major interstate with an 18 wheeler behind me and almost rear ended me. As I gave it gas it wouldn’t go I rolled to side of road. This was the 5th time this happened to me. It all started back in beginning of July. The check engine light came on.
Driver active headrest self deployed while driving. No explainable cause as vehicle was not in an accident. It happened while driving normally. No cause can be observed.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, the message "Service Electronic Throttle Control" was displayed, and the check engine warning light and the electrical system warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the failure was part of a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact stated that the powertrain control module software was updated. The contact stated that the failure persisted. Upon further investigation, the contact found document part 573 on the NHTSA website related to additional recall repairs. The contact stated that the dealer refused to repair the vehicle. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V411000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and assigned a case manager. The failure mileage was 187,799.
The engine and powertrain are affected by a defect described in Safety Recall 66A / NHTSA 23V-411 (loss of crankshaft position). Despite the recall software update being performed, my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to display Diagnostic Trouble Code P0336 (Crankshaft Position Sensor Performance). This issue causes intermittent stalling, hard starts, and loss of engine power, which creates a serious risk of crash if the vehicle stalls while driving. The safety defect described in the recall — tone wheel magnetic material delamination leading to crankshaft signal loss — is still present. Two diagnostic reports (one from an FCA-authorized dealership and one from an independent mechanic) confirm the presence of DTC P0336. The Service Manager at the dealership agreed this is likely recall-related but said FCA corporate must authorize hardware repair. FCA (Case #93427994) has refused to approve full repair, leaving the safety defect unresolved. The defect has been confirmed by the dealership and independent service center and persists despite the software reprogramming remedy. Warning lights (check engine) are active and the issue is repeatable.
