TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12V527000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN EXPECTED DATE FOR THE PART TO BE AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THERE WERE NO FAILURES AT THIS TIME.
MY CAR EXPERIENCED A SPORADIC ROUGH IDLE OVER A 2 WEEK PERIOD. ONE DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHEN ON AFTER STARTING THE CAR. AFTER READING THE CODES CYLINDER 2 WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE ISSUE. A SHOP REPLACED THE IGNITION COIL AND ALL SEEMED WELL. THE NEXT DAY AFTER DRIVING THE CAR ALL DAY WITH NO ISSUE, I RESTARTED THE JEEP AFTER A 10 MINUTE BREAK AND IT WOULD NOT START. WHEN IT FINALLY STARTED IT SOUNDED LIKE HALF THE CYLINDERS WERE NOT FIRING AND HAD A SLAPPING SOUND. TOWED IT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD CYLINDER 2 HAD NO COMPRESSION AND IT NEEDED A NEW CYLINDER HEAD. BOTH SIDES WOULD COST $3,500. PARTS WERE ORDERED AND 10 DAYS LATER THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THERE WERE OTHER PROBLEMS AND THE CYLINDER HEAD WAS NOT THE ISSUE. PISTON SEEMED BENT AND IT NEEDED A LONG ENGINE BLOCK AND A WATER PUMP. THIS WOULD COST $7,000. NOT WORTH THE FIX. IT SEEMS CYLINDER 2 IS AN ISSUE IN MANY LIBERTY'S OF THIS YEAR. *TR
CHRYSLER HAS ISSUED A NOTICE OF RECALL MAILED IN JAN 2013. CHRYSLER RECALL #: M35 NHTSA RECALL REFERENCE #: 12V527000 SO FAR NO PARTS HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE BY CHRYSLER, AND CALLERS TO THE CHRYSLER GROUP RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER ARE NOT BEING PROVIDED WITH ANY ESTIMATED DATE FOR ANY PARTS AND REPAIRS. FOR A SAFETY RECALL, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. CHRYSLER SEEMS TO BE STALLING, OR NOT HAVE ANY INTENTION OF FULFILLING THEIR COMMITMENT. THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL REGARDING THE AIRBAGS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYING AND SINCE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER JEEP NUMEROUS TIMES TRYING TO FIX THE ISSUE WITH THE RECALL AND THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GIVE ANY DATES AS TO WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR THE ISSUE TO BE FIXED. THERE WAS A RECALL OPEN ABOUT THE AIRBAGS SINCE NOVEMBER 2012. ON THE COMPANY'S WEBSITE THEY MENTIONED THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN APRIL 2013, IT IS NOW ALMOST JULY AND MY SAFETY ALONG WITH MY FAMILY IS A RISK. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EMITTED AN OVERPOWERING GASOLINE ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT A DIAGNOSIS WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO A BLOWN PISTON. THE CONTACT INDEPENDENTLY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT SOME FUSES WERE BLOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
CHRYSLER OF YORK, PA SENT ME A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO. EVERY TIME I CALL THE DEALERSHIP, THE MANAGER STATES THAT THE PART IS ON ORDER AND NOT IN YET. SERIOUSLY, AFTER 2 YEARS. I ALSO TRIED THE 1-800 NUMBER AT THE CHRYSLER GROUP RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER AND HAVE NO SUCCESS WITH HANG UPS AND REPEATED VOICEMAILS. THE RECALL STATES THAT THAT CHRYSLER IS SUPPOSE INSTALL AN ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (OEM) TRAILER HITCH TO BETTER MANAGE CRASH FORCES IN LOW-SPEED IMPACTS. I TRAVEL OFTEN, AND FREQUENTLY TO AREAS WHERE INCLEMENT WEATHER IS THE NORM. I CONSIDER THE RECALL A VERY SERIOUS MATTER THAT WHILE NOT CORRECTED, MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE/INJURY. I PRAY THAT I NEVER EXPERIENCE A CRASH, BUT I WOULD HATE TO SEE SOMETHING HAPPEN TO ME OR OTHERS INJURED DUE TO THE POSSIBLITY OF A FUEL LEAKAGE IF THERE WAS A IMPACT TO MY VEHICLE. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOME IMMEDIATE, PROMPT AND COURTEOUS ASSISTANCE IN HAVING THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. I OWN A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY LTD EDITION AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE #2 CYLINDER VALVE COMING OFF WHICH IN TURN BEAT THE #2 PISTON. I DROVE MY JEEP HOME FROM WORK AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER I STARTED THE JEEP TO LEAVE AND LOW AND BEHOLD THE #2 CYLINDER BLEW AND CREATED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE PISTON. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTS OF A SLUDGE ISSUE ON THE 3.7L ENGINES. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE BUT AFTER SPEAKING WITH A MAN THAT WORKED FOR DODGE HE CONFIRMED THAT THEY DID A SILENT RECALL ON THESE ISSUES FOR THE 3.7L ENGINE. I SPOKE WITH CHRYSLER AND THEY LAUGHED AT MY ISSUE SAYING IT WAS CONSIDERED WEAR AND TEAR SINCE MY MILES ARE AT 138,000. I DON'T THINK THIS ISSUE IS VERY FUNNY AND IT COULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO CRASH IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING WHEN THE CYLINDER BLEW. I HAVE RECENTLY HAD TO PAY OVER $3000 TO GET MY REPAIRS DONE AND CHRYSLER REFUSES TO HELP WITH THE ISSUE. HAD I OF KNOWN ABOUT THE ENGINE ISSUES AND ALL OF THE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT THE JEEP. I AM ONLY ASKING FOR CHRYSLER TO HELP WITH AT LEAST HALF OF THE REPAIR BILL IF NOT ALL OF IT. THIS IS A DEFECT AND IF THE ENGINE WAS CORRECT IT WOULD HAVE NEVER BLOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V527000 AND AFTER THE REMEDY REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE MALFUNCTION PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE PART NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR, WHICH WAS UNKNOWN TO THE CONTACT, WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I JUST GOT OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS HEADING TO THE GAS STATION. MADE THE RIGHT TURN AND THE VEHICLE ON THE RIGHT SIDE JERKED TO THE GROUND AND HIT HARD. PUT IT IN PARK AND GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND CHECKED THE TIRES TO SEE IF ONE WAS BLOWN. NOTICED FENDER ABOVE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS OFF AND MY BALL JOINT ARM WAS ON THE GROUND. THE LOWER BALL JOINT CAME COMPLETELY OFF. IT WAS NOT RUSTED AND WAS WELL LUBRICATED. HAD TO PAY FOR A TOW TO HAUL IT TO MY PARENTS HOUSE. I NEED TO KNOW IF CHRYSLER IS GOING TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. *TR
BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT SEAT BELT LOCKING MECHANISM FAILED WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF EACH OTHER. THEY WOULD NOT LATCH BECAUSE THE RELEASE BUTTON STAYED IN THE RELEASE POSITION. THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT WORK WAS TO MANUALLY PULL THE BUTTON UP TO THE PRE-LOCK POSITION AND INSERT THE BELT LOCKING CLIP. I RECENTLY ORDERED TWO REPLACEMENT UNITS AT A COST OF $185.00. I LOOKED FOR USED ONES BUT SINCE JUST ABOUT EVERY JEEP IN THE SALVAGE YARDS ACROSS AMERICA WERE OUT BASED ON NEED. I HOPE THESE NEW ONES LAST. *TR
2002 JEEP LIBERTY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE FAILURE. *SMD THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A MISFIRE WHILE DRIVING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, SO SHE IMMEDIATELY HAD THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED WITH A DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER AT A LOCAL PARTS STORE. THE CODE FIRED WAS MISFIRE CYLINDER 2. THE SPARK PLUGS AND COIL WERE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MISFIRING THE SAME CYLINDER. THE HEAD WAS THEN TAKEN OFF THE ENGINE TO FURTHER INSPECT WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN THE CYLINDER TO CASE IT TO MISFIRE. THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THE EXHAUST VALVE WAS DRAWN INTO THE CYLINDER AND COMBUSTED. THE COMBUSTION CAUSED THE PISTON TO MELT DOWN TO THE FIRST RING.
DRIVER'S SEAT BELT LATCH DOES NOT POP UP AFTER IT IS RELEASED. VERY HARD TO LATCH SEAT BELT. MUST HOLD SEAT BELT CONNECTOR TOGETHER AND QUICKLY MOVE BACK AND FORTH UNTIL IT THE PUSH BUTTON WIGGLES UP ENOUGH TO LATCH. *TR

THE MALFUNCTION ALSO RECURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT ANY SPEED. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V527000 (AIR BAGS) WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN EXPECTED DATE FOR THE PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK TO GET GAS, TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND HEARD A STRANGE NOISE. MY HUSBAND WAS OUTSIDE OF THE JEEP AND NOTICED THAT SOMETHING WAS HANGING FROMTHE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. HAD IT TOWED TO NEAREST AUTO SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE UPPER CONTROL ARM AND LOWER BALL JOINTS HAD BROKEN. HAD IT REPAIRED. CALLED THE CHRYSLER RECALL CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. WE WERE THEN INSTRUCTED TO GET THE ORIGINAL INVOICE AND RECEIPT TO PROVE THAT THE REPAIRS WERE DONE. WE WERE TOLD TO CALL BACK TO RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS ON WHERE TO FAX THE PAPERS. CALLED BACK LATER THAT DAY TO GET A FAX NUMBER AND WAS TOLD THAT WE COULD NOT BE REIMBURSED BECAUSE WE DIDN'T TAKE IT TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD THAT WE HAD NOT CALLED AND TALKED TO ANYONE EARLIER AND THAT WE COULD NOT BE REIMBURSED. AFTER STAYING ON PHONE AND ON HOLD FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES, THE REPRESENTATIVE GAVE MORE INSTRUCTION ON INFORMATION TO SEND TO THE CHRYSLER RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER. I HAVE GATHER MY INFORMATION AND VOICED MY CONCERNS. I WAS TOLD TO MAIL MY INFORMATION AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE UP TO 60 DAYS FOR A DECISION TO BE MADE. WE ARE NOT TRYING TO GET OVER ON ANYONE. JUST IMAGINE IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 70 MPH WITH MY KIDS AND HUSBAND IN THE CAR AND THE JOINTS BROKE. THE CHRSYLER CORPORATION WILL BE DEALING WITH A LOT MORE THEN A $1000 REPAIR BILL. I FEEL THAT IF THERE ARE RECALLS ON THESE VEHICLE, EVERYONE SHOULD BE NOTIFIED AND IT BE CORRECTED BEFORE SOME ONE GETS HURT OR LOOSE A LIFE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER, THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER 12V527000 (AIR BAG) HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE RECALL SERVICE WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER ALSO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO THE DRIVE DUE TO THE ALARM THAT INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG WAS DEFECTIVE WOULD SOUND CONSTANTLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT WHEN THE ALARM WOULD SOUND, THE CHANCES OF ERRONEOUS AND SPORADIC AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT WOULD INCREASE.
