I'M WRITING ABOUT THE SAFETY RECALL M35/NHTSA 12V-527 AIRBAG SYSTEM OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE LETTER WHICH I'VE RECEIVED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR OF 2013. I'VE CONTACTED THE RANCHO AUTO GROUP, ONE OF THE JEEP DEALERSHIPS IN SAN DIEGO AND I TOOK MY CAR TO THEIR SHOP FOR AN INSPECTION. THE AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE REQUIRES REPAIR NOT ONLY FOR THE RECALL #M35 BUT ALSO #F23. THEY WERE ABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE WITH THE LOWER BALL JOINT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT, BUT NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT ORC FILTER CIRCUIT DUE TO THE PARTS BEING CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE. I UNDERSTAND THAT IT MIGHT TAKE A FEW DAYS OR MAYBE A FEW WEEKS TO GET THESE PARTS ORDERED, BUT ITS BEEN OVER SIX MONTHS SINCE I TOOK MY CAR TO RANCHO AUTO GROUP AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET. I'VE FILLED COMPLAINTS OVER THE PHONE, I'VE CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE A FEW TIMES AND THE RESPONSE IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME, 'I'M SORRY, BUT THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. I AM REALLY FRUSTRATED ABOUT THIS WHOLE SITUATION, NOT ONLY BECAUSE ITS BEEN OVER NINE MONTHS SINCE I RECEIVED THE FIRST CHRYSLER'S LETTER, BUT SPECIALLY BECAUSE NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHEN MY CAR IS GOING TO BE REPAIRED! I TOOK MY CAR TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, AND HE TOLD ME THAT IF I GET INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG WON'T GO OFF. THIS IS REALLY SERIOUS, I CAN DIE BECAUSE OF THIS FAILURE WHICH HAS ALREADY BEEN DIAGNOSED AS PART OF THE RECALL #M35. HOWEVER, YOUR REP HAS TOLD ME THAT IF I GET INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THE AIR BAG WILL GO OFF. SO, WHO SHOULD I TRUST? I JUST DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR! I WANT TO SELL IT BUT I CAN'T BEFORE IT GETS FIXED. WHO IS GOING TO BUY A CAR WITH A SAFETY ISSUE? NO ONE! IN JANUARY 2013 I RECEIVED AN INTERIM SAFETY RECALL M35/NHTSA 12V-527 FOR MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE RECALL DEALS WITH THE ORC, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE WHICH IF STRESSED WILL CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO INADVERTENTLY DEPLOY. CONTINUAL CONTACT WITH MY DEALERSHIP ADVISES THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART IS NOT AVAILABLE, AND NO DIRECTION FROM CHRYSLER GIVES AN ANTICIPATED DATE WHEN THE PART WILL BE SECURED. THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY DOES COME ON IN MY VEHICLE WHILE THE CAR IS IN DRIVE. I HAVE ONLY ONE CAR. I AM EMPLOYED. I BELIEVE THIS DELAY IS UNCONSCIONABLE AND JEOPARDIZES NOT ONLY MY LIFE BUT OTHERS WHO MIGHT BE INJURED SHOULD THIS CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE STORY THAT CHRYSLER IS 'WORKING' WITH THE MANUFACTURER DOESN'T FLY ANYMORE. MORE THAN SIX MONTHS TIME SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO BEGIN TO SUPPLY THE REPLACEMENT PART. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THE VEHICLE. FOUR MONTHS LATER, THE PARTS STILL WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. UPDATED 09/20/13*LJ THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OF THE FAILURE, BUT DUE TO THE CONDITION OF THE CAR, ONLY THE OBVIOUS WAS TESTED. TOYOTA DENIED THERE WAS A DEFECT.

I HAVE EXPERIENCED A WARNING LIGHT STAYING ON FOR THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND SPENT BETWEEN $300-400 FOR A REPAIR. IN JANUARY THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL BY JEEP FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND MY WIFE AND I FEAR DRIVING THE CAR. I CONTACTED THE DEALER TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL CORRECTIVE ACTION IMMEDIATELY AND WAS TOLD THE PART TO PERFORM THE REPAIR WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. I CALLED AGAIN IN MARCH AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CONTACTED WHEN THE PART WAS AVAILABLE. I CALLED THIS WEEK, JUNE 6, AND WAS TOLD BY THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER THAT THEY HAD CALLED CHRYSLER THAT MORNING AND WERE TOLD IT WAS INDEFINITE WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN LIMITING OUR DRIVING FOR OVER SIX MONTHS WAITING FOR THIS RECALL CORRECTIVE ACTION. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE BEING PUT AT RISK. PLEASE TAKE ACTION AGAINST JEEP/CHRYSLER TO REQUIRE THEM TO IMMEDIATELY PROVIDE CORRECTIVE ACTION. *TR

DRIVERS SEAT BELT LATCH STICKS IN OPEN POSITION (DOES NOT POP UP WHEN SEAT BELT IS UNLATCHED). I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ALL OVER INTERNET. PERHAPS NO ONE HAS REPORTED THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY DEFECT TO YOU. LATCH CAN BE POPPED UP BY INSERTING KEY OR SCREWDRIVER IN AND POPPING UP. *TR
EMAIL FROM CONGRESSMAN LATTA'S OFFICE RE CONSTITUENT COMPLAINTS ABOUT HER CHRYSLER 2002 JEEP LIBERTY (119000 MILEAGE) WITH A KNOCKING ENGINE DUE TO MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS DILIGENT ABOUT CHECKING THE OIL. HOWEVER, ONE DAY WHEN SHE CHECKED THE OIL, DUE TO AN ENGINE KNOCK, SHE DISCOVERED THE OIL WAS THREE QUARTS LOW AND A WARNING SIGNAL NEVER ALERTED HER. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP, SHE WAS INFORMED A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED AT A COST OF $4,500. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, THERE WAS A KNOWN OIL DELIVERY ISSUE WITH THE 2002-2003 3.7 LITER ENGINES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL HAD INDEED FAILED WHICH WAS CONSISTENT WITH THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN RECALL M35. THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL, AT TRYING TO OBTAIN REIMBURSEMENT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME AND WAS INSPECTED BY A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER UPPER BALL JOINT FRACTURED DUE TO CORROSION AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO SEPARATE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT AS WELL AS AN AUDIBLE TONE BEGAN INTERMITTENTLY ALERTING IN THIS CAR. DEALERSHIP IS ABLE TO CONFIRM AIRBAG FAULT CODES, BUT IS NOT ABLE TO FIX THE CAR AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS AND ONE $500.00 REPAIR THAT FAILED. CHRYSLER GROUP LLC HAS REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. MY VEHICLE REMAINS AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO ACTION BEING TAKEN AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR MORE THAN FOUR MONTHS. NO ONE AT CHRYSLER GROUP LLC OR THE DEALERSHIP CAN AS MUCH AS ASSURE ME THAT IT IS EVEN SAFE TO DRIVE HOME. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER GROUP A FEW TIME IN THE BEGINNING AND ULTIMATELY CHRYSLER CALLED ME AND ESSENTIALLY SAID 'YOUR CAR IS READY. GO THE DEALERSHIP AND PICK IT UP.' I COMMENTED THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD STATED THAT THE AIRBAG ALERTS WERE STILL OCCURRING AND THAT FAULT CODES THAT COULD NOT BE USED TO MAKE THE REPAIR STILL EXISTED IN THE SYSTEM. CHRYSLER REPLIED THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD CONFIRMED THAT CODES WERE IN FACT PRESENT IN THE SYSTEM THAT COULD NOT BE RELATED TO AN IDENTIFIABLE REPAIR, AND THAT THE AIRBAG WARNING SYSTEM WAS STILL ALERTING, BUT THAT BOTH SITUATIONS HAD NOTHING TO WITH THE RECALL. I ASKED SPECIFICALLY HOW HE COULD SIMULTANEOUSLY STATE THAT AN UNIDENTIFIABLE AIRBAG SYSTEM FAULT CODE EXISTED, BUT THAT IT CATEGORICALLY WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL. HE BECAME ANGRY AND FRUSTRATED AND INSTRUCTED ME TO NOT QUESTION HIM. IT IS EVIDENT FROM THE AFOREMENTIONED CHAIN OF EVENTS THAT NETHER CHRYSLER GROUP LLC OR THE DEALERSHIP ARE PREPARED TO IMPLEMENT THESE REPAIRS OR ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. THERE HAVE BEEN AS MANY AS 215 REPORTED CASES OF THESE INADVERTENT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENTS, AND CHRYSLER HAS PROVEN UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO IMPLEMENT THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL AN INNOCENT INDIVIDUAL IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. *TR

MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DASHBOARD TURNED OFF AND THEN TURNED BACK ON, THEN MY CAR STARTED SHAKING LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO BLINK. I GOT SCARED BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT MY ENGINE TO STALL AND BREAK DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY SINCE IT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS, SO I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND PARKED IT IN A LOT OVER NIGHT SO THAT I COULD TAKE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER VERY CAREFULLY, MY CAR STARTED OVER HEATING WHEN IT WAS SITTING IN PLACE/ TRAFFIC FOR MORE THAN ONE MINUTE, AND THEN IT WOULD COOL BACK DOWN WHEN IT WAS MOVING. FINALLY AT THE DEALER THEY CHANGED THE WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT, AND ONE OF THE COILS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED AND SENT ME OFF. WITHIN THAT WEEK MY CAR STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN, THE ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AGAIN AND I NOTICED MY CAR WAS STILL BEING JUMPY. I TOOK IT BACK AND IT TURNS OUT IT HAD BLOWN HEAD GASKETS, NOT ONLY THAT BUT THE HEADS WERE NOT EVEN REPAIRABLE. I NEED A COMPLETE NEW ENGINE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND THAT IT IS VERY COMMON FOR JEEP LIBERTY'S TO HAVE A MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEM. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WAY JEEP BUILDS THEIR ENGINES. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL, IT IS A DEFECT IN THE LIBERTY'S. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF JEEP ENGINES BREAKING DOWN WITH NO SIGNS. ALSO AS A SIDE NOTE, THE SEAT BELT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOESN'T REALLY CLICK AND SOMETIMES UN BUCKLES ON ITS OWN. I STOPPED TODAY ( JUNE 20, 2013) TO CHECK ON GETTING IT FIXED AND THE DEALERSHIP HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHEN THEY WILL GET THE PARTS FOR THIS RECALL. THIS IS THE 3RD DEALERSHIP I HAVE STOPPED AT ABOUT THE RECALLED PART AND FIXING IT. WHILE DRIVING I ACTIVATED THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 57 MPH. THE JEEP KEPT ACCELERATING. THE SPEEDOMETER READ 50 MPH. I TAPPED THE BRAKE TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPED UP TO 70 MPH. I DID THIS A SECOND TIME WITH THE SAME RESULTS.
