2002 JEEP LIBERTY. BOUGHT NEW. ONE OWNER. AT APPROX 70,000 MILES HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TURNING OFF AND ON BY THEMSELVES AT RANDOM - NO PATTERN WHATSOEVER. MAY DO IT SEVERAL TIMES DAILY FOR A WEEK AND THEN NOT AT ALL FOR A MONTH. VERY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT DUE TO SUDDENLY YOU ARE DRIVING IN THE DARK AND ALSO OTHER DRIVERS (OR EVEN WORSE POLICE OFFICERS) THINK YOU ARE FLASHING YOUR LIGHTS AT THEM. NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE, FIND, OR FIX THIS PROBLEM. NOW AT 81,000 MILES AND HAVE TO TRY AND DRIVE MOSTLY DURING THE DAY - VERY INCONVENIENT AND NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM SO THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AND THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY HAPPENS NOW AND THEN. *TR
2002 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE RIGHT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE FOR THE 2ND TIME IN 3 YEARS. WINDOW STUCK DOWN AND REGULATOR WORM CABLE CAUSED DAMAGE TO DOOR LATCH PREVENTING DOOR FROM OPENING FROM THE INSIDE. *TR
AFTER SEEING MULTIPLE STORIES REGARDING THE AIRBAGS IN JEEP LIBERTIES RANDOMLY GOING OFF, I NOTICED THAT MOST OF THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED AFTER THE OWNERS MENTIONED SEEING THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASHBOARD GOING ON OFF PERIODICALLY. *TR ALTHOUGH THE AIRBAGS IN OUR JEEP LIBERTY HAVE NOT GONE OFF UNEXPECTEDLY, WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT GOING ON AND OFF FOR AT LEAST A YEAR. WHEN BROUGHT INTO DEALERSHIP THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY LIGHT WAS GOING ON AND OFF. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THIS JEEP LIBERTY WITH THE POTENTIAL THAT IT COULD GO OFF. I FIGURED NOTIFYING THE SAFETY COMMISSION WAS THE BEST THING TO DO.
IN 2002 JEEP LIBERTY COLLISION AT INTERSECTION OTHER VEHICLE PULLED IN FRONT OF US. DRIVER OF JEEP WITH SEAT BELT ON CRACKED WINDSHIELD, I, AS THE PASSENGER, MY FOREHEAD HIT THE DASH. GOING AT APPX. 30 MPH. *TR
HEADLIGHTS SWITCH OFF WITHOUT INTERMITTENTLY, WITHOUT COMMAND, AT RANDOM INTERVALS WHEN DRIVING. APPEARS TO OCCUR IN CONJUNCTION WITH, OR SHORTLY AFTER, USING THE TURN SIGNAL. NOTHING HAS YET BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, THOUGH I AM TOLD THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE MULTIFUNCTION TURN STALK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE PASSENGERS SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE AS IT CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MODERATE INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE TWO RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 06V288000 & 03V460000: SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT), THE CONTACTS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN EITHER RECALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000. UPDATED 11/11/10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED ALL OF THE COMPLAINT INFORMATION WAS ACCURATE. 02 JEEP LIBERTY WINDOW REGULATOR. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE AND BASED ON THE FORUMS I HAVE SEARCHED IT HAS HAPPENED TO 1000'S OF PEOPLE. THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL SAFETY PROBLEM AS THE WINDOW JUST COMES DOWN ON IT'S OWN WHEN THE CHEAP PLASTIC PART BREAKS INSIDE. IF A CHILD WERE NEXT TO THE WINDOW, THEY COULD UNBUCKLE SEAT AND POSSIBLY GET OUTSIDE VEHICLE. IN WHICH CASE THEY COULD BE HIT OR THE PARENT COULD BE DISTRACTED AND WRECK WHILE TRYING TO GET CHILD BACK TO SAFETY. THERE IS NO WARNING THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND ALL JEEP WOULD NEED TO DO IS REPLACE THE PART WITH A METAL PART AND NOT CHEAP PLASTIC. I DO NOT KNOW OF ANY CASES BUT WOULD IT NOT BE BETTER TO TRY AN FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE WE HAVE A TRAGEDY? *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 55 MPH IN THE RIGHT LANE. I ACCELERATED TO PASS THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WHO WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. WHEN I ACCELERATED, THERE WAS AN EXTREMELY LOUD BAND THAT CAME FROM MY CAR. I MOVED INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND PULLED OVER, OFF THE ROAD AND STOPPED THE CAR. THE LOUD BANG FRIGHTENED AND STARTLED ME FOR A MOMENT AND I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED. UP UNTIL THEN, I HAD NO PROBLEMS. WHEN I DROVE THE CAR HOME, I DROVE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY. THE CAR KEPT STOPPING, AS IF SOMEONE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. I TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALER AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE SOLENOID PACK AND FLUID, HAD A BROKEN CLUTCH, AND INTERNAL DAMAGE (TRANSMISSION). AFTER THAT INCIDENT, OTHER ISSUES STARTED SUCH AS NO HYDRAULIC UNDER FRONT HOOD (HAVE TO HOLD HOOD UP WITH ONE HAND WHILE USING OTHER). THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE HOOD FELL DOWN ON MY HEAD. THE BACK HYDRAULICS TO KEEP THE HATCHBACK OPEN SOMETIMES WORK OR NOT AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR IS BROKEN. MIND YOU THIS ALL STARTED WITH LOW MILEAGE BETWEEN 72,880 - 74,000. NOW I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE LATEST RECALL FOR FUEL TANK EXPLOSION IF HIT IN REAR AND THE OTHER RECALL ABOUT THE AIR BAGS. *TR
2002 JEEP LIBERTY. KEY DIFFICULT TO TURN AND ENGAGE STARTER. ONCE STARTED KEY CAN EASILY FALL OUT OF IGNITION WITH CAR MOVING DOWN THE ROAD! BY SEARCHING THE INTERNET I SEE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP IGNITIONS. WHERE IS THE RECALL?? OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND DANGEROUS SAFETY ITEM! THIS OCCURS ALMOST ON A DAILY BASIS. AM WAITING FOR THE TIME WHEN EVEN FIDDLING WITH KEY 20 MINUTES AND IT STILL WON'T START OR TURN. *TR
HEADLIGHTS CLICK ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. SOMETIMES RELATED TO SIGNAL USE. CONCERN OF SAFETY ISSUE AND ANNOYANCE TO OTHER DRIVERS. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE THAT BEGAN WHEN ODOMETER REACHED APPROXIMATELY 99,000 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A TIRES. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 77 MPH THE CONTACT COULD SEE DEBRIS FLYING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND THE ENTIRE REAR PASSENGER SIDE FENDER WAS MISSING AS WELL AS VARIOUS OTHER PIECES OF THE WHEEL WELL. AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH FOR ANOTHER MILE MORE DEBRIS WAS COMING FROM THE SAME WHEEL WELL. WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE A SECOND TIME, HE OBSERVED THAT THE REAR QUARTER PANEL WAS TORN. UPON EXAMINING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY SHREDDED OF ALL ITS RUBBER. THE TIRE WAS EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE TREAD SEPARATION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLES INTERIOR AND HEAD LIGHTS WERE FLICKERING OFF AND ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW FAILED. THE DEALER ADVISED HE WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE WINDOW REGULATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 97,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FLUCTUATE ON AND OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
2002 JEEP LIBERTY WINDOW REAR DRIVER SIDE FALLING DOWN AND WILL NOT COME BACK UP. HAVE REPLACED THE REGULATOR IN 2007 AND 2009. NOW I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE AGAIN. THIS IS A DEFECT AND SAFETY ISSUE. SOMEONE CAN GET RIGHT INTO YOUR CAR IF YOU CAN NOT GET THIS FIXED RIGHT AWAY. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW REGULATOR IN 2008. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH THE LIBERTY. CHRYSLER SHOULD FIX THIS FOR FREE AND NOT MAKE THE CUSTOMER PAY FOR A DEFECT. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GET KILLED IN A ROBBERY OR SOMETHING BEFORE THIS ISSUE IS FIXED. *TR
2002 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED EDITION VALVE SPRING PROBLEM. ALL OF SUDDEN LOOSING POWER STEERING AND WITH LUCK PULLED OVER. *TR
ABS LIGHT COMES ON & OFF INTERMITTENTLY. NO DEPLOYMENT & CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN A CRASH. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS. TIME FOR A RECALL BASED ON ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS LISTED HERE. *TR
I HAVE A SAFETY RECALL ON MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY (SAFETY RECALL J17 FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER BALL JOINTS). WHEN I CALLED JEFF WYLER DODGE/JEEP IN FT. THOMAS KY, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE RECEIVING ONLY ONE RECALL REPAIR KIT PER WEEK AND THAT I WOULD BE # 30 ON THE LIST. THAT MEANS THAT MY SON HAS TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR OVER FOUR MONTHS ON A RECALLED PART. *TR
UPDATE TO ODI 10135119, PREVIOUS ISSUE WAS DRIVERS FRONT SEAT BELT. CURRENT ISSUE IS FRONT PASSENGER SEATBELT. IT IS NOT WORKING. THE FEMALE END IS STUCK IN THE IN POSITION AND WILL NOT RELEASE.
RIGHT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED AND WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR. AFTER PART WAS REPLACED BY DEALER, SAME WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED 16 MONTHS LATER. THIS WINDOW IS NEXT TO MY 4 YEARS OLD CAR SEAT AND IS NEVER OPENED. FOR ME, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THOUSANDS OF IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS CAN BE FOUND ON VARIOUS SITES. JEEP IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND REFUSES TO FIX IT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OF 5 MPH INTO A PARKING LOT, THE DRIVERS SIDE UPPER CONTROL ARM FRACTURED FROM ITS SOCKET AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO COLLAPSE OUTWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE UPPER CONTROL ARM AND REALIGNED THE FRONT END. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V119000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM) BUT WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF HER VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED WITH THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,676 AND THE CURRENT WAS 95,776.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING INSPECTION DONE ON HIS VEHICLE, HE WAS NOTIFIED THAT BOTH FRONT CONTROL ARMS WERE SEPARATING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 142,000. *TR
WHILE INSPECTING FRONT BRAKE PADS NOTICED RUBBER BOOTS ON LOWER AND UPPER BALL JOINTS WERE COMPLETELY DETERIORATED (DRY ROTTED). THIS IS A 2002 LIBERTY 4X4 RENEGADE WITH 37000 MILES HIGHWAY DRIVING ONLY. LOWER BALL JOINT WAS COVERED BY RECALL AT DEALER . UPPER CONTROL ARM /BALL JOINT (ASSEMBLY) IS COVERED IN SO CALLED SALT BELT STATES ,BUT NOT HERE IN TEXAS . THE RUBBER BOOTS (SEALS) APPEAR TO BE MADE WITH DEFECTIVE MATERIAL THAT CANNOT WITHSTAND ANY ENVIRONMENT. APR 09,2009/RECALL ID#65314 SHOULD COVER ALL JEEP LIBERTY VEHICLES IN ALL STATES. THIS IS TRULY A DANGEROUS LIFE THREATENING DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY JEEP DEALERS AT COMPANY COST IMMEDIATELY TO SAVE LIVES. *TR
JEEP LIBERTY 2002 / THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BALL JOINTS. THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THE BALL JOINTS ARE BAD AFTER ONLY 25,000 MILES AFTER THE DEALERSHIP DID THE RECALL REPAIR. BALL JOINTS TYPICALLY LAST SOMEWHERE NEAR 100,000 MILES. THE CAR IS DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY IN FLORIDA ABOUT 8,000 MILES A YEAR (NO OFF ROAD AT ALL). I FEEL THE RECALL REPAIR WAS SUBPAR AND WANT THE BALL JOINTS REPAIRED BY JEEP. *TR
ON MAY 2ND ,2010, MY WIFE AND SON HEARD AN EXPLOSION OUTSIDE IN OUR DRIVEWAY. WHEN THEY WENT OUT TO SEE WHAT IT WAS , THEY FOUND THE SPARE TIRE ON THE BACK OF OUR 2002 JEEP LIBERTY HAD BLOWN UP. IT IS A GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRE MADE IN 2002. IT HAS ONLY BEEN USED ONCE FOR A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES WHICH BRINGS ME TO THE OTHER REASON FOR MY COMPLAINT. LAST FALL WHILE DRIVING TO A MARLINS GAME IN MIAMI AS I WAS ACCELERATING ON AN ON RAMP GETTING ON TO I 95 THE LEFT REAR TIRE EXPLODED THROUGH THE SIDEWALL AND RIPPED APART. THIS TIRE WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD AS WE HAD BOUGHT A COMPLETE SET OF 4. THIS TIRE AGAIN WAS A GOODYEAR WRANGLER. MY WIFE IS NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AND I HAVE A 15 YEAR OLD ABOUT TO GET HIS LICENSE. I REPORTED THIS TIRE FAILURE TO YOUR WEBSITE WHEN IT HAPPENED. OTHER THAN A NOTICE THAT IT WAS RECEIVED I REALLY DIDN'T LEARN ANYTHING ELSE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THESE TIRES AS I FEAR THEY SEEM TO EXPLODE AT WILL FOR NO GOOD REASON. COULD SOMEONE RESPOND. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEED, THE PASSENGER REAR WINDOW SLID DOWN INTO THE DOOR. THE CHEAP PLASTIC LIFT PLATE THAT IS PART OF THE WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE NOW AND JUST BROKE AGAIN. WITH THE WINDOW DOWN IN THE DOOR THE VEHICLE IS VULNERABLE TO BREAK-IN AND DAMAGE FROM THE WEATHER. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME BECAUSE MY CHILD'S CARSEAT IS IN THIS LOCATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 09V119000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM). THE CONTACT CALLED AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP ON 04/19/10 AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 04/26/10. WHEN SHE ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART FOR REPAIR HAD NOT ARRIVE AND THEY WERE NOT SURE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD ARRIVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER HUSBAND TOLD THE DEALER THAT SHE WAS SPEAKING WITH NHTSA AND THE DEALER AGREED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY FAILURES AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 09V119000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM) ON APRIL 22, 2010 SO SHE CALLED THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE COULD NOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE SIX MONTHS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT; THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE ONLY SUPPLYING THE DEALERSHIPS WITH ONE PART PER WEEK AND SHE HAD TO WAIT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 103,000
RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE ON APRIL 20, 2010, AND DEALER IS UNABLE TO GET PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNTIL JULY OR AUGUST. *TR
JEEP LIBERTY. REAR WINDOWS REGULATORS CONTINUE TO FAIL. THE WINDOWS JUST FALL INTO THE DOOR WELL WHILE NOT IN USE. I RARELY OPEN THOSE WINDOWS AND THEY JUST FALL OUT. I HAVE NOW REPLACED THEM FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST THREE YEARS. THE DEALER STATES THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS DEFECT. THERE IS CERTAINLY A DEFECTIVE PART AS I HAVE READ OVER AND OVER OF THIS SITUATION OCCURRING WITH ALL MAKES OF THE JEEP LIBERTY. *TR

I RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL J17 FOR MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. I CONTACTED THE DEALER ON 4-16-10, BUT WAS TOLD THE DEALER HAD NO PARTS AND I SHOULD CALL BACK IN ONE WEEK. I CALLED 4-23-10 AND WAS TOLD ONLY ONE PART WAS BEING SHIPPED PER WEEK BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER TOOK NAME AND PHONE AND SAID THEY WOULD CALL. TO DATE, I HAVE NOT BEEN CALLED, BUT I NOTICED I HAVE A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT-END OF MY JEEP WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS RELATED TO THE RECALL, BUT IN ANY EVENT, I CANNOT BELIEVE CHRYSLER IS SHIPPING PARTS FOR ONLY ONE VEHICLE PER WEEK TO THE DEALER. *TR

CHRYSLER HAS TAKEN OVER A MONTH AND STILL DOES NOT HAVE MY RECALL PART THAT CAN CAUSE THE BALL JOINTS TO SEPARATE WHILE DRIVING. THE PARTS MAY BE AT THE DEALERSHIP BY MID JUNE. I AM 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AND AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY HAD NO ANSWER AND NO SYMPATHY. I ORIGINALLY TOOK MY CAR TO DEALER IN MID APRIL. THE CONTACT SECURED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER FOR APRIL 20, 2010. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER EARLY THE MORNING OF APRIL 20TH AND WHEN HE RETURNED TO TAKE POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THIS INFORMATION AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN THE PARTS BECAME AVAILABLE. MOST RECENTLY, THE CONTACT STILL WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND WHEN CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER A SECOND TIME, THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE APPROXIMATELY 43,000.

THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ON MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY STARTED GETTING STUCK IN THE UNLATCH POSITION ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO WHICH MEANS I HAVE TO DIG IT OUT IN ORDER TO BELT MYSELF IN, AND IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. DUE TO MY UNEMPLOYMENT, WE TRIED TAKING A BELT FROM THE BACK SEAT AND USING IT IN FRONT BUT NOW MY AIR BAG LIGHT WON'T GO OFF. THIS SEEMS VERY UNSAFE TO ME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WINDOW MOTOR HAD FAILED AND CAUSED THE LOCK TO FAIL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000. UPDATED 2/21/13 WE PURCHASED THE 2002 JEEP LIBERTY BRAND NEW AS A SPECIAL ORDER IN OCTOBER 2001 AS A 2002 MODEL YEAR. THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR POWER WINDOW MOTOR ASSEMBLY FAILED. THIS INHIBITED THE DOOR FROM BEING OPENED FROM WITHER THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. AT THE TIME, WE DID NOT HAVE A CHILD, NOW WE DO, WHEN CARRYING PASSENGERS, THEY HAD TO ENTER AND EXIT THROUGH THE DRIVERS REAR DOOR. HAD THERE BEEN ACCIDENT WHICH BLOCKED THE DRIVERS SIDE, THE REAR PASSENGERS WOULD BE TRAPPED. I HAD THE DOOR FIXED AT THE DEALER IN APRIL 2011. SINCE THAT TIME, WE HAD OUR FIRST CHILD AND AS LAW REQUIRES HE IS IN THE BACK SEAT. AGAIN, THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY FAILED AND THE DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I FEEL A DESIGN FLAW. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER MOTOR CORP AND THEY DO NOT CARE. THE DEALER WASHED THEIR HANDS OF ANY CULPABILITY IN THE MATTER AS WELL. I KNOW I CAN NOT BE THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUED WITH THE DOOR FAILING TO OPEN WHEN THE WINDOW MOTOR BREAKS. UPDATED 02/25/13
SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. HAVE SPEND >$1750 TRYING TO FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. REPLACED SPEED SENSORS, AND SOME WIRING. HAD VEHICLE IN TO JEEP DEALER AS WELL AS OTHER MECHANICS.... NO SOLUTION. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT FRACTURED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED TWO TIMES AFTER THE INITIAL RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED BECAUSE THE RECALL REPAIR HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 131,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.

THE REAR WINDOW OF MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY JUST FELL WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I COULD NOT GET IT TO STAY UP AND NOW HAVE IT TAPED UP. AFTER DOING SOME INVESTIGATION OF MY OWN THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRENT PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE HAVING REPLACED THE WINDOW REGULATOR MULTIPLE TIMES. SOMETIMES WHEN THE WINDOW FALLS THE CABLE SOMEHOW KEEPS THE REAR DOOR FROM OPENING. THIS COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN. ALSO, WITH THE WINDOW FALLING FOR NO REASON I AM AFRAID IT MAY FALL, BREAK, AND CUT SOMEONE. IT SEEMS THERE IS A PART MADE OUT OF PLASTIC THAT CONTINUES TO BREAK AND IT SHOULD BE FIXED. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET MY VEHICLE FIXED AND HAVE FOUND THAT IT MAY COST BETWEEN $300 AND $500 AND THEN MAY BREAK AGAIN. I AM A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT THAT.*DT
PROPELLER SHAFT BEARING WAS EXPOSED CAUSING GRINDING/RATTLING NOISE AND POSSIBLE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A LOUD CLICK AND RATTLING NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT HE COULD SEE THE BEARING EXPOSED FOR THE PROPELLER SHAFT AND THAT IT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *TR
NO WARNING OF THE FAILURE. VALVE SPRING BROKE DUE TO NON CLEARANCE IN THE VALVE GUIDE CAUSING THE VALVE TO HANG AND GET SMACKED BY THE PISTON CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. NEEDS ENGINE REPLACED AT A COST OF $5 THOUSAND DOLLARS. *TR
