TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY LTD EDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS ON A DIRT ROAD DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH WHEN SHE CROSSED OVER A CREEK. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON. THERE WERE 3 PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLE AND ONE OF THE PASSENGERS IN THE BACK SEAT NOTICED THAT SPARKS WERE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,000. UPDATED 02/07/11 *BF UPDATED 02/11/11
WE HAVE A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP, AND THE KEY WILL NOT TURN SO THE CAR WON'T START. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE AND MORE LATELY, AND IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 8 P.M. MY BOYFRIEND AND I WERE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH WHEN THE FRONT OF MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY STRUCK THE FRONT WHEEL OF ANOTHER DRIVERS VEHICLE AS THEY PULLED OUT AND NEGLECTED TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES WHICH NEEDED TO BE TOWED AWAY. WE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH WHIPLASH, KNEE, CHEST, SHOULDER, AND BACK INJURIES. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN AN AMBULANCE. MANY PEOPLE WERE CURIOUS AS TO WHY OUR AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I THINK IF THEY HAD DEPLOYED IT MAY HAVE PREVENTED SOME OF THE INJURIES THAT WERE CAUSED DO TO THIS ACCIDENT. *TR
2002 JEEP LIBERTY WILL NOT START WHEN TURNING KEY IN IGNITION. FROM WHAT I'VE READ ONLINE, THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. I'M TRYING TO FIND A PLACE TO REPAIR; FIRST SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THEY CANNOT DO IT BECAUSE A DEALERSHIP WILL NEED TO REPROGRAM THE KEY TO THE MECHANICS OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK. VERY PROBLEMATIC SINCE WE LIVE IN OHIO AND HAVE A 15 MONTH OLD. CANNOT AFFORD TO BE STRANDED WITH A TODDLER IN FRIGID WEATHER. *TR
THE FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER CONTROL ARMS BALL JOINT SEAL HAS EXPERIENCED DAMAGE IN BOTH SIDES. THE LOSS OF LUBRICATION HAS LEAD TO CORROSION, AND ACCELERATED WEAR. NO INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED YET, AND THE SITUATION WAS FOUND DURING AN INSPECTION OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION. *TR
FRONT LUG NUTS LOOSEN ON 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THIRD TIME ON THIS CAR. *TR
MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY FRONT SEATBELT LATCHES ARE INOPERATIVE. THEY GET STUCK IN THE "DOWN" POSITION AND HAVE TO BE PRIED UP IN ORDER TO LATCH THE SEAT BELT SECURELY. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF JEEP/CHRYSLER HAS ISSUED A RECALL OR OFFERED TO REPAIR THE LATCHES THAT GO BAD. *TT
IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME BY THE MECHANIC THAT A VALVE SLIPPED OUT OF THE HEAD CYLINDER. WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY THE CAR JUST SHUT-OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME. I HAD TO CALL A RELATIVE TO PUSH THE CAR HOME. THE MECHANIC EXPLAINED, AFTER THEY TOOK APART THE ENGINE THAT A VALVE SLIPPED OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD AND GOT INTO THE ENGINE, WHICH CAUSE THE ENGINE TO FAIL. I HAVE A WARRANTY BUT NOT A FACTORY WARRANTY SO THEY DON'T WANT TO COVER IT. AND I STILL HAVE TO MAKE PAYMENTS! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 60-70 ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THE STEERING SYSTEM FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY AND BEGAN TO WOBBLE. THE DRIVER CONTINUED IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V119000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM). HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. UPDATED 3/24/10 *CN UPDATED 06/01/10.*JB
I HAD A FRONT END IMPACT WITH A GUARD RAIL IN MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY AT A SPEED BETWEEN 50 AND 60 MPH BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO AN ALMOST INSTANT STOP. THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. I WAS SLAMMED AGAINST THE DASHBOARD INJURING MY KNEES AND MY WIFE IS RECEIVING CONTINUING MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR THE NECK AND BACK INJURIES SHE SUSTAINED. I CONTACTED JEEP IN DECEMBER 2009 ABOUT THE ISSUE, A SPOKESPERSON FOR JEEP CALLED ME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT, "IF THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T GO OFF THEN THEY MUST NOT HAVE NEEDED TO." *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WOULD NOT UN-LATCH FROM THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE LOWER LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 44500. UPDATE 12/14/09 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO DESTROY THE LATCH ASSEMBLY SO HIS DAUGHTER COULD EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. UPDATED 12/16/09*JB
2002 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT, SPEED SENSOR FAILURE CAUSES SPEEDOMETER TO STOP WORKING OR FLUCTUATE TILL IT STOPS WORKING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, ENGINE WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING WITH A RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, LOSS OF POWER BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. 3RD TIME I'VE DEALT WITH THIS ISSUE IN 5 YEARS. THE WIRING IN THE HARNESS CONSTANTLY RUBS AND EVENTUALLY BECOMES COMPROMISED TO THE ELEMENTS, THUS CAUSING A SHORT. I'VE MANAGED TO AVOID ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT SINCE I EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE MORE THAN ONCE!! JEEP HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CONTINUALLY IGNORES THE POTENTIAL DANGER IN A FAULTY DESIGN. *TR
2002 JEEP LIBERTY UPPER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT BROKE WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING REPAIRS. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED PER CHRYLSER RECALL F23, BUT NOT FOR THE LATEST CHRYSLER RECALL J17 AND THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT RECALL J17. NEED HELP AS J17 SEEMS APPLICABLE IN THIS SITUATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. SHE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE, THE LOWER FRONT CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT BROKE AND THE VEHICLE COLLAPSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A JEEP DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL 09V119000 FOR THE SUSPENSION, FRONT CONTROL ARM; HOWEVER, HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE WAS IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE FOR $2,148.87. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE VEHICLE FAILED STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE THE FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF LUBRICATION. HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V119000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM). ALL REPAIRS WOULD HAVE TO BE MADE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000. THE CURRENT WAS 110,000.
THE IGNITION KEY OF MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY WILL NOT TURN. 8 TO 10 TIMES IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. HAS CORRECTED ITSELF AFTER A FEW HOURS IN THE PAST. AS OF TODAY WE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR 3 DAYS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIMMY. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BALL JOINT HAD FRACTURED, AND THEN THE TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. TWO YEARS PRIOR AN IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER-SIDE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 106000.
SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING MID-TRIP, ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON (ENGINE, ABS ETC) -- SOMETIMES ENGINE DIES WHILE ON THE ROAD. "SPEED SENSOR" OR SOME OTHER COMPUTER-RELATED ISSUE HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT, BUT 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS INCLUDING THE DEALER HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPAIR. SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED BUT PROBLEM REMAINS. *TR
I HAVE HAD THREE REAR POWER WINDOW REGULATORS BREAK ON MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. ONE REPLACEMENT ONLY LASTED EIGHT MONTHS WITH VERY LITTLE USE. THE FAILURE HAS CAUSED THE DOOR TO JAM SO IT CANNOT BE OPENED. THIS CREATES A VERY HAZARDOUS CONDITION THAT IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT A REAR PASSENGER CANNOT GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE THROUGH THAT DOOR. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THAT THIS DEFECT IS QUITE COMMON WITH JEEP LIBERTY'S. *TR
HEATED SEAT BURNED SEAT AND WAS SMOKING BADLY. THIS IS ON A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. HEATED SEAT WAS ON AND OVERHEATED TO THE POINT OF BURNING THE SEAT AND PERSONAL PROPERTY TOUCHING THAT AREA OF THE SEAT. THE SEAT WAS SMOKING AND EVEN MELTED THE STITCHING IN THE SEAT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE PARKED, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE POWER WINDOW ASSEMBLY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE REAR LIFT GATE WAS UNLOCKED ELECTRONICALLY, IT WOULD THEN AUTOMATICALLY LOCK INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON AND OFF AND AFTER READING SOME STUFF ONLINE THEY HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED EVEN WHEN THERE'S BEEN NO ACCIDENT SO I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS MATTER ALSO MY OVERHEADS LIGHTS PERIODICALLY HAVE BEEN COMING ON AND OFF FOR YEARS. *TT

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 100324.
RECALL #009V119000 DATED APR 09, 2009 EXPECTED TO BEGIN OCTOBER 2009 COVERING 2002 JEEP LIBERTIES EXCLUDES THE STATE OF LOUISIANA - CONDITION DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL EXACTLY DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. SINCE CHRYSLER IS AWARE THAT THIS CONDITION DOES EXIST, WHY DOES IT EXCLUDE THE STATE OF LOUISIANA. "THE FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT MAY EXPERIENCE A LOSS OF LUBRICATION WHICH COULD LEAD TO CORROSION, ACCELERATED WEAR & POSSIBLE SEPARATION WHILE DRIVING. CONSEQUENCE: FAILURE OF THE BALL JOINT COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CAPABILITY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." PREVIOUS RECALL ON LOWER BALL JOINT HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. *TR
ENGINE HAD ALMOST 150,000 MILES. PARKED VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO START VEHICLE IT SHOOK AND RAN VERY ROUGH ONLY IF I HAD MY FOOT SLIGHTLY ON THE GAS PEDAL. MECHANIC SAID THAT THE RING THAT HOLDS THE VALVE COVER CAME OFF AND WENT INSIDE THE CYLINDER AND IT COULDN'T FIRE CORRECTLY. I NEEDED THE ENGINE REBUILT AT A COST OF OVER $4000. *TR
I LEFT MY HOUSE TO GO TO WORK AND STARTED TO PULL AWAY WHEN I HEARD A CLUNK AND THEN A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE - I TRIED TO BACK UP AND THE UPPER BALL JOINT IN MY JEEP SNAPPED AND TOOK THE BRAKE LINE WITH IT. I GOT OUT AND THE WHEEL/TIRE WAS HANGING SIDEWAYS ON THE VEHICLE. THANK GOD I WAS NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME. CHRYSLER SAYS THIS IS NOT A RECALL AND WILL NOT CONSIDER FIXING IT. I AM VERY DISGUSTED AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE LOWER BALL JOINTS HAD BEEN RECALLED PREVIOUSLY AND THERE IS A BULLETIN NOW OUT ABOUT THE UPPER. BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL CONNECTED TO MY VIN THEY WILL NOT CONSIDER IT HOWEVER. I WILL BE FIGHTING THIS. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY LAST NIGHT AND THE FRONT DRIVERS WHEEL FELL OFF. THE UPPER CONTROL ARM WITH THE BALL JOINT SNAPPED IN HALF. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND SUDDENLY THE SPEEDOMETER BECAME NONFUNCTIONAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL WIRES TO THE BLOWER MOTOR OVERHEATED AS A RESULT TO THE WIRING HARNESS. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE LABOR FEE WOULD BE $87 AN HOUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
2002 JEEP LIBERTY HAS HAD TWO FAILURES OF SEAT BELT LATCHES. PASSENGER SEAT LATCH WAS REPLACED AT 80,000 MILES AND DRIVERS SEAT NOW NEED REPLACEMENT AT 96,000 MILES. BOTH LATCHES FAILED IN THE STUCK DOWN POSITION. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY AND I AM HAVING CONTINUOUS ISSUES WITH THE WINDOWS. THEY WILL STOP WORKING OR FALL DOWN. AT $400 A POP TO GET THEM FIXED AND READING NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS CHRYSLER NEEDS TO HAVE THESE ON A RECALL LIST. *TR
HAVE A HARD TIME RELEASING THE FRONT SEAT BELTS AND WHEN THEY DO RELEASE, THE RELEASE BUTTON STAYS PUSHED DOWN. THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE OF TIMES MY HUSBAND HAD TO PUSH TO RELEASE MY SEAT BELT, AS I COULD NOT GET IT TO RELEASE. THANK GOODNESS HE WAS THERE OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK IN THE CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE MADE A GRINDING NOISE, LUNGED FORWARD, AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BALL JOINTS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FAILED AND DAMAGED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 06V288000 (SUSPENSION), 12V527000 (AIR BAGS) AND 15V046000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIRS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. WE OWN A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. A COUP[LE OF WEEKS AGO WHILE TRAVELING THE LITTLE PIECE OF TAIL PIPE FELL OF THE END OF THE EXHAUST PIPE. WE DIDN'T REALIZE THIS HAD HAPPEN UNTIL WE STARTED SMELLING VERY STRONG FUMES OF PLASTIC MELTING. WE GOT OUT AND CHECKED AND FOUND THE PIECE HAD FALLEN OF AND THE HEAT FROM THE EXHAUST HAD MELTED A HOLE THROUGH THE REAR BUMPER. WE HAD TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY WITH ALL OF THE WINDOWS DOWN SO WE DIDN'T GET OVER COME BY THE FUMES. THE WORST PART OF IT ALL IS THE PIPE IS RIGHT BESIDE THE GAS TANK. WE WERE WORRIED THE WHOLE TIME THE HEAT WOULD IGNITE THE GAS. WE HAVE HAD THIS JEEP LIBERTY LESS THAN A YEAR AND WE HAVE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WE WANT TO KNOW IF THIS CAR HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT SMELLED A BURNING ODOR OF COOLANT. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DISPLAYED A HIGH TEMPERATURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO COOL DOWN FOR THIRTY MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE RADIATOR, RADIATOR FAN, AND COOLING TEMPERATURE SENSOR WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 195,000.
MARCH 2008 MY REAR PASSENGER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED. TODAY, AUGUST 2009, NOW THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW HAD JUST DROPPED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER TO CHECK FOR ANY RECALLS AND WAS INFORMED THAT HER VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V119000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I OWN A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDOW REGULATOR 4 OR 5 TIMES. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE WINDOW JUST FALLS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT IS SHOCKING AND CAN CAUSE A WRECK. THE WINDOW FALLS ALL THE WAY DOWN INTO THE DOOR AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. YOU MUST REPAIR IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT SECURE- THEFT, RAIN ETC. IF THE WINDOWS ARE DOWN THE THUMP THUMP OF THE REAR TIRES IS EXCRUTIATING TO YOUR EARS. EACH REPAIR COST $350. TO $500. CHRYSLER AND THE DEALERSHIPS ARE FULLY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING. THEY ADMIT THAT THIS IS A BAD DESIGN (A PLASTIC CLIP HOLDS YOUR WINDOW UP) THE PART IS ONLY WARRANTED FOR 12 MONTHS. ON THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS WEBSITE ALONE THERE WERE 93 COMPLAINTS OF THIS HAPPENING. MOST OWNERS ARE JUST LIKE ME AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REGULATOR MULTIPLE TIMES. CHRYSLER SHOULD BE MADE TO RECALL ANY VEHICLE THAT HAS THIS REGULATOR. NO OTHER PARTS ARE AVAILABLE EXCEPT FOR MOPAR AND THE PART HAS COST ME $137. TO $170. JUST FOR THE PART- NO LABOR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND OUT OF WARRANTY. NOW BOTH REAR WINDOWS BROKE WITHIN TWO DAYS. I REPAIR AND NEXT YEAR THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN. I AND ANY OTHER JEEP OWNER IS KEEPING CHRYSLER AND MOPAR IN BUSINESS BY THESE REPAIRS. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW ON MY 02 JEEP LIBERTY FELL DOWN. THIS, IN TURN, CAUSED THE REAR DOOR TO 'DEADBOLT' ITSELF. THAT IS, IT WILL ONLY OPEN 3/4 INCH AND THEN THE LATCH CATCHES ON SOMETHING. I'M SUSPECTING A BROKEN WINDOW CABLE MAY BE KEEPING THE LOCK MECHANISM FROM FULLY RELEASING THE DOOR. THIS SUSPECTED DESIGN DEFECT IN THE WINDOW REGULATOR MECHANISM HAS MADE THE RIGHT REAR DOOR UNUSABLE. IF THE WINDOW FELL WHEN PASSENGERS WERE IN THE BACK SEAT, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE CAR. AS YOU NEED TO OPEN THE DOOR TO TAKE OFF THE INTERIOR DOOR TRIM TO GET TO THE WINDOW REGULATOR MECHANISM, THE 'DEADBOLT' STATE OF THE LOCK IS PREVENTING THE REPAIR TO BE MADE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT MAKES A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SPARK PLUGS. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE VALVE SYSTEM. THROUGH RESEARCH, HE HAS FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME FAILURE AND BELIEVES IT TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. HE ALSO BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 91,000.
REAR PASSENGER WINDOW "FELL" DOWN ON IT'S OWN AT HIGHWAY SPEED. CAUSED EXTREME DISTRESS IN MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. HAVE FOUND SEVERAL THOUSAND COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED FOR NO REASON. WINDOW WAS NOT BEING PUT UP OR DOWN. JUST FELL INTO DOOR. *TR

JUNE 27TH WHILE MY WIFE AND I WERE RIDING DOWN RTE 18 SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN OUR 2002 JEEP LIBERTY THE HOOD CAME UNLATCHED FOR NO REASON. WE HAVE BEEN RIDING AROUND FOR A LONG TIME WITH NO PROBLEM. THEN OUT OF THE BLUE ALL OF A SUDDEN THIS HAPPENS. WE TOOK IT TO MEINKE TO SEE IF THEY COULD GET IT LATCHED TILL MONDAY JUNE , 29TH WHEN WE WERE SCHEDULE TO TAKE IT TOOK THE BODY SHOP FOR REPAIR. THEY DID GET IT LATCHED BUT SAID DON'T DRIVE ITGO ANYWHERE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR 4 WAYS ON AND ONLY GO NO MORE THAN 35 MPH. ONE OF THE TECH'S WHO WORKS AT MEINEKE AS WELL AS THE PERSON AT THE REPAIR SHOP SAID BOTH THE SECURITY LATCH, AND THE MAIN LATCH SHOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN WAY AS WELL AS THE REP FROM GEICO SAYING THE SAME THING, ALSO THE MECHANIC WORKING ON THE JEEP SAYS THE SAME THE SAME THING BOTH THE SECURITY LATCH AND THE MAIN LATCH SHOULD HAVE HELD. I HAVE THREE PEOPLE SAYING THE SAME THING, I HOPE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. I SPOKE TO DAIMLER CHRYSLER JEEP EXPLAINING TO THEM THE SITUATION AND I WASN'T HAPPY EXPLAINING I HAVE TO PUT OUT $500.00 OF MY POCKET BECAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT, WHICH WE FEEL WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT. WE FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND WE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER FOR THE DEDUCTIBLE WE PAID HAD TO POUR OUT OF OUR POCKET. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE JEEP AND IT DOES NOT MATTER IF OUR WARRANTY EXPIRED IN DECEMBER 2008. IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT UNDER WARRANTY. AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY SUBDIVISION I HEARD A LOUD "METAL ON METAL" GRINDING NOISE AND HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME STEERING MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. I CALLED AAA WHO SENT A TOW TRUCK DRIVER AND HAD MY CAR HAULED TO THE DEALER (CARDINAL DODGE IN LOUISVILLE, KY). THE UPPER BALL JOINT ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT BROKE. THIS CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN RECALLED TWICE BEFORE AND HAS BEEN TAKEN IN TO BE REPAIRED AS REQUIRED BY THE RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. THANKFULLY I HADN'T MADE IT TO THE EXPRESSWAY YET. I AM SO GRATEFUL THAT I DID NOT HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO ME AS I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH. I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND WE ALL COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED AS THEY ARE NORMALLY IN THE CAR WITH ME EVERY DAY AND IT JUST SO HAPPENED THAT THEY WERE NOT IN THE CAR YESTERDAY. IT HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER I ACCELERATED AFTER I HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND APPARENTLY THE POOR QUALITY OF THE CHRYSLER PARTS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED YET AGAIN. DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. CHECKED OIL WAS FULL. WE LIVE ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY SO GOT OFF INTERSTATE HEARD A FAINT NOISE UNDER THE HOOD WE PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED KEY OFF AND COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT. CHECKED OIL AND BELTS EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. TURNED THE KEY AND NOTHING HAPPENED. NO WARNINGS WHAT SO EVER. THE OIL PUMP WENT BAD AN SEIZED THE ENGINE. THIS IS MY TRANSPORTATION NOW I HAVE NOTHING TO DRIVE UNTIL I CAN AFFORD $7,000 PLUS FOR A NEW ENGINE. THIS WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY LESS THEN 90 DAYS. HAVE ALMOST 90,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS TRAVELING OFF NAVAL BAE KITSAP ON MY WAY HOME WHEN I REACHED A GREEN LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION A GENTLEMAN WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, HE HAD A YIELD SIGN BUT NO TURN SIGNAL, I WAS TRAVELING 40 MILES AN HOUR WHEN I IMPACTED HIS PASSENGER DOOR.
