THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD TRIED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO SCHEDULE A DATE UNTIL THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, AND RECOMMENDED THE CONTACT TO CALL EVERY DAY TO CHECK FOR UPDATES ON THE PARTS. TL* - THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL 06V288000 ON 2002 JEEP LIBERTY WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 95000 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS DRIVING UNDER DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS AT 30 MPH WHEN NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO STEER AND BEGAN TO SHAKE. SHE THEN PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE'S POWER OFF. WHEN SHE SUBSEQUENTLY TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TOLD HER THAT SHE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. THE CONTACT EXPLAINED THAT SHE NEEDED THE RECALL WORK DONE, BUT THEY WOULD NOT DO RECALL REPAIRS BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE FAILURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE BALL JOINT FAILURE CAUSED THE ENGINE FAILURE. *AK

THEREFORE THE CONTACT WAS PLACED ON A WAITING LIST OF OVER 100 CONSUMERS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED, WHO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A BACK ORDER FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERNED THAT THE BALL JOINT SEPARATION COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. *NM

DAIMLER CHYRSLER RECALL F23. I RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER FOR MY JEEP LIBERTY AROUND 11/10/06 AND CALLED THE DEALER TO SCHEDULE THE APPT. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM APPROXIMATELY 11/20/06. I WAS TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT THERE WERE 30 PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME AND THAT MY NAME WOULD BE PUT ON A LIST. I CALLED DECEMBER 18TH AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE WORKING THROUGH THE LIST AND IT WOULDN'T BE MUCH LONGER. I CALLED 01/25/07 (OVER 2 MONTHS LATER AND GOT THE SAME STORY). I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THE DELAY AND HE STATED THAT JEEP WOULD ONLY GIVE THEM PARTS TO COMPLETE 3 VEHICLES A WEEK AND THAT I HAD 20 PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME ON THE LIST. I ASKED HIM IF THEY HAD ONLY COMPLETE 10 VEHICLES SINCE 11/20/06 AND HE SAID YES. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE THE RECALL LETTER SAYS STEERING CAN BE LOST WITHOUT WARNING AND BASED ON JEEP'S CURRENT PROGRESS IT MAY BE 4 OR 5 MORE MONTHS BEFORE THIS WORK IS COMPLETE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS RECALL IS BEING HANDLED IN A REASONABLE MANNER AND TIME FRAME. *JB

THE PROBLEM STARTED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP, FOR A NHTSA RECALL, # 06V288000, REGARDING THE SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND, NO MATTER HOW FAR THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNALS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED, AND WOULD NOT OFFER A REPAIR WITHOUT CHARGES. *AK

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET, THE ENGINE STALLED, AND ALL FOUR DOORS LOCKED AND UNLOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTERWARDS, THE ENGINE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THE WHEEL AND SPEED SENSOR OF THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTERWARD, THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION WHO DETERMINED THERE WAS A RAINWATER LEAK ALONG THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND THE REAR HATCH THAT CORRODED THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS. THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS A NEW REAR HATCH SEAL TO PREVENT FURTHER LEAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. *AK

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE IN PARTS. THE CONTACT THEN NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO GAVE THE SAME RESPONSE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT. PRIOR THE INCIDENT THE VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL #03V460000 WHERE THE SUSPENSION CONTROL ARM WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF THE ALIGNMENT WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THEY INDICATED THAT ALIGNMENT WAS PART OF THE VEHICLE'S NORMAL MAINTENANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO CONFIRMED THE DEALERSHIP STATEMENT. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERN BECAUSE THE MISALIGNMENT CREATED BY THE SUSPENSION REPAIRS COULD BE THE CAUSE OF A FATAL ACCIDENT.
DRIVERS SEAT BELT BUCKLE (FEMALE END) RELEASE REMAINS RETRACTED AFTER RELEASE OF THE MALE END. THE BUTTON EITHER MUST BE PRIED BACK UP TO LATCH THE SEAT BELT, OR, AFTER NUMEROUS TRIES, THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE FEMALE END WILL SECURE IN THE MALE END. DCC HAS REFUSED TO CORRECT THE DEFECT, AS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *JB

A VEHICLE RECALL WAS ISSUED ON MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THERE HAS BEEN NO FAILURE, ACCIDENT OR INJURY AS OF THE DATE OF THIS COMPLAINT. THE RECALL IS TITLED SAFETY RECALL F-23--LOWER BALL JOINTS. I FIRST RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE RECALL SOME TIME IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALER AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN. THE DEALER INDICATED THEY WERE HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING THE BALL JOINT PARTS FROM CHRYSLER. CHRYSLER WAS NOT RELEASING ENOUGH PARTS. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN WITH THE SAME RESPONSE. THIS PAST WEEK, I WENT IN TO THE DEALER AND INQUIRED AGAIN. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT HE HAD A STACK OF OTHER CUSTOMERS AS WELL (HE SHOWED ME THE STACK OF WORK ORDERS). HE INDICATED HE HAS CALLED CHRYSLER TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE LACK OF PARTS. CHRYSLER KEEPS PROVIDING THE SAME SONG AND DANCE, NAMELY THAT THE PARTS WILL BE SHIPPED. WHEN HE ASKED WHAT HE IS SUPPOSED TO TELL HIS CUSTOMERS, THE DEALER WAS GIVEN THE BLUNT REPLY, "TELL THEM THE PARTS WILL BE SHIPPED." NO DATE WAS GIVEN FOR SHIPPING. HAVING WORKED FOR A VEHICLE MANUFACTURER AS GENERAL COUNSEL AND HAVING BEEN INVOLVED IN RECALL MATTERS, I FIND THIS LACK OF ATTENTION TO THIS RECALL PARTICULARLY DISTURBING. FRANKLY, I WANT MY VEHICLE FIXED AND FIXED NOW. MY WIFE AND I HAVE A NEWBORN SON AND I AM VERY NERVOUS ABOUT TAKING ANY OF THE FAMILY IN A VEHICLE THAT COULD HAVE A FAILURE IN THE BALL JOINTS THAT CHRYSLER SAYS "CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING." *NM

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE BACK ORDERED AND THE SERVICE DEALER WOULD CALL WHEN THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.

OVERHEAD DOME LIGHT COMES ON AND RADIO LIGHT DIMS. TAPPING THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL TURNS THE LIGHT OFF. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE BUT TECHNICIAN COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. *NM
SEAT BELT RELEASE BUTTON ON DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT STICKS IN THE DOWN POSITION. IT MUST BE TAPPED WITH THE MALE END OF THE SEAT BELT TO GET IT TO POP UP SO THE BELT CAN BE INSERTED AND HELD IN PLACE. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. *NM

I RECEIVED THE RECALL IN THE MAIL OVER 6 WEEKS AGO AND HAVE TRIED TO GET IT FIXED EVERY WEEK, CALLING REGULARLY AND EVEN GOING IN FOR SERVICE - ONLY TO FIND THAT THE DEALER DOES NOT HAVE ANY PARTS. I HAVE NOW CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER WHO IS UNABLE TO OFFER ANY SOLUTION THEY HAVE NO PARTS AVAILABLE NOR HAVE ANY IDEA WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. *NM

RECEIVED RECALL 11/01/06 F23 LOWER BALL JOINTS DAIMLER CHRYSLER. I CALLED MY DEALER WHEN I RECEIVED IT THEY SAID THEY WERE BOOKED WITHOUT PARTS UNTIL JANUARY TO CALL BACK. I CALLED THE 1-888 # AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD SEND ME SOMETHING IN THE MAIL. I HAVE NEVER HEARD BACK AND AM HAVING A LOT OF STEERING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF MY JEEP. *NM
I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO HEAR FROM BERGERON CHRYSLER JEEP TO ADDRESS A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED FOR MY JEEP LIBERTY. THE LAST TIME THEY CONTACTED ME WAS NOVEMBER 10, 2006 TO LET ME KNOW THEY WOULD BE IN TOUCH. AS OF TODAY, I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. *JB

TOLD BY DEALER THAT PARTS WERE ON BACK-ORDER. ON 10-30-06, AGAIN CONTACTED DEALER, AGAIN TOLD PARTS WEREN'T AVAILABLE. REQUESTED LOWER-BALL JOINTS TO BE INSPECTED, AS VECHICLE IS DRIVEN BY WIFE (8 MONTHS PREGRANT) AND 7 YEAR CHILD ALSO TRAVELS IN VECHICLE. TOLD THAT DEALERSHIP COULDN'T DO, AS IT WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL PROCEDURES.

THIS PROBLEM IS CONCERNING A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT 4X4 3.7LT. DURING A SLOW LEFT TURN THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT SPINDLE AND TOP BALL JOINT FAILED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD OR DRIVEN ROUGHLY, IT HAS ONLY SEEN HIGHWAYS AND LOCAL MUNICIPAL ROADS. I BELIEVE THAT THE SPINDLE AND TOP BALL JOINT IN QUESTION WERE DEFECTIVE. WITHIN WEEKS OF PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE I RETURNED TO A SERVICE CENTER WITH THE COMPLAINT OF THE THUMPING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END WHEN MAKING TURNS(HAVE RECEIPT). I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I COMPLIED WITH THE FIRST LOWER BALL JOINT RECALL AND NOW THE SECOND RECALL. I ATTEMPTED TO BRING MY CONCERN TO THE MANUFACTURER ALTHOUGH THEY WERE UNWILLING TO LISTEN. I AM TRULY CONCERNED WITH THE FRONT END OF THE JEEP LIBERTY. IF MY WIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE AT 55 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE ROLLED WITHOUT QUESTION. PLEASE FORWARD MY CONCERN TO ALL APPLICABLE PARTIES AND ADDRESS THIS WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS. THE CONTACT LEFT THE INFORMATION WITH THE DEALER TO CALL HIM, AND AFTER FIVE WEEKS THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE CONTACT CALLED DAIMLER CHRYSLER, AND WAS TOLD THAT HE COULD FILE A COMPLAINT ,AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE BALL JOINTS. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED AS STATED IN THE RECALL. WATER MAY ENTER AND CAUSE BALL JOINT SEPARATION. THE CONTACT COULD LOSE STEERING CONTROL, WHICH MAY RESULT IN A CRASH. DAIMLER CHRYSLER ADVISED HIM TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. ALSO, THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING IT IN THE RAIN WITH THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED, PER THE RECALL. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, WHO STATED THAT THE RECALL PART WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL WORK; THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT SHIPPED OUT THE RECALL PARTS FOR OVER A MONTH. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR PARTS TO ARRIVE FOR THE RECALL WORK.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN ISSUE, BUT THE PART HAD NOT BEEN MODIFIED TO PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 79,000. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION WITH A TREE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING HER SEAT BELT AND ONLY SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP. THE CAR INSURANCE COMPANY SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT FOR FURTHER EXAMINATION THE VEHICLE MUST BE RELEASED TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY.
