INTERMITTLY WHILE APPLYING BRAKES, CONSUMER STATES THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WILL GRAB MOMENTARLY WHICH CAUSES A GRINDING AND SQUEKY NOISE. DEALER NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. PH
I AM FILING THIS TO GET SOME SORT OF HELP AND DIRECTION TO TAKE CARE OF THESE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE NHTSA NUMBER 13V-252.
I GOT RECALL FOR DASH BOARD UNDER STEERING COLUMN STATING IT NEEDED TO BE FIXED BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE PROBLEM OF FALLING OFF WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT.. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL. ONE WEEK LATER WHILE DRIVING, THE DASH BOARD UNDER STEERING COLUMN FELL OFF AND LANDED ON MY FEET. I HAD TO STOP MY VEHICLE IN THE ROAD TO REMOVE DASH. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP AND COMPLAINED. THEY PUT PIECE BACK ON. NOW, APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME PIECE FELL OFF AGAIN. IF THIS IS A RECALL, THE FIX IS WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL !!!!!*AK
I HAD THE PLEASURE OF HAVING A FLAT. IN CHANGING THE FLAT I FOLLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS AND RAISE THE VEHICLE TO REMOVE THE FLAT. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO RAISE THE VEHICLE HIGHER TO PUT ON THE SPARE, WHICH IS FULL SIZE, I COULD NOT RAISE THE LIBERTY HIGH ENOUGH. AS I LOOKED AT THE JACK AS I WAS TURNING THE HANDLE, I COULD SEE THAT THE POSITION WITHIN THE JACK STAND WAS NO MOVING HIGHER, I HAD REACHED THE MAXIMUM HEIGHT. THIS WAS A MOJOR PROBLEM. HOW TO RAISE THE VEHICLE HIGH ENOUGH TO GET THE NEW TIRE ON. THE ONLY CHOISE I HAD WAS TO FIND SOMETHING TO PUT UNDER THE JACK. I NEEDED AT LEAST 3 TO 4 INCHES TO RAISE THE JACK UP SO THE I COULD RAISE THE VEHICLE BY THE SAME AMOUNT. I WAS ABLE TO FIND A TREE BRANCH WHICH I PLACED UNDER THE JACK. THIS WAS HAPPENING ON A INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. AFTER PUTTING THE BRANCH UNDER THE JACK I WAS ABLE TO RAISE THE VEHICLE UP HIGH ENOUGH TO PUT ON THE SPARE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PISTON WITHIN THE JACK WILL ONLY TO UP HIGH ENOUGH TO TAKE A FLAT TIRE OFF, BUT NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO PUT A SPARE TIRE ON. THE PISTON IS TO SHORT BY ABOUT 3 TO 4 INCHES. I FEEL THAT THERE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE HERE. PUTTING A TREE BRANCH UNDER THE JACK IS NOT HOW ONE CHANGES A TIRE. AS I WAS RAISING THE VEHICLE I THOUGHT IF THE WEIGHT IF THE LIBERTY CRUSHED THE BRANCH I WAS GOING TO HAVE A LOT MORE PROBLEMS. HOW I WAS NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET THE JACK IN THE RIGHT POSITION. OR EVEN WORSE WAS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I HAVE MYSELF UNDER THE VEHICLE IN SOMEWAY AND THE BRANCH CAME APART, THAT WAS GOING TO HURT. WHAT JEEP NEEDS TO DO IS RE-DESIGN THE JACK. THE STAND EITHER HAS TO BE TALLER OR THE PISTION HAS TO BE LONGER TO GET THE VEHICLE HIGH ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PUT THE SPARE. AS A SIDE NOTE PLEASE MAKE THE COMMET SECTION BIGGER. TRYING TO TYPE IN CURRENT MANNER IS NOT EASY. IT WOULD MAKE IT SO MUCH BETTER TO SEE ALL THE TEXT AS ONE IS TYPING. THANK YOU. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE SUSPENSION ON THE VEHICLE IS NOT DESIGNED CORRECTLY AND THE CONSUMER ALMOST FLIPED THE VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER AND THE DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. NLM
CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AT 50 MPH, HOWEVER ONLY THE PASSGENER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. *JB THERE WAS ONE INJURY IN THIS ACCIDENT. *SLC
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH CONSUMER T-BONED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
VEHICLE WAS HIT ABOVE REAR PASSENGER TIRE AND ROLLED OVER, TOTAL LOSS. *AK
WHEN COMING TO A STOP APPLIED BRAKES AND ENGINE WILL REV, AND TIRES SPIN. VEHICLE WAS MOVING FORWARD, CONSUMER HAS TO SHUT OFF ENGINE TO STOP VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER TWICE, COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHEN BRAKING TO SLOWDOWN PEDAL BECOMES SPONGY. AFTER 5-8 SECONDS BRAKING ACTION STOPS. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN BRAKING TO ATTEMPT A COMPLETE STOP. DEALER DETERMINED THAT MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BUT PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE.*AK
THERE WERE NO FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED DUE TO RECALL NOTICE. *JG
OUR 2002 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED WITH LESS THAN 1500 MILES CAUGHT FIRE ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND PROCEEDED TO BURN COMPLETELY. MY 5 YEAR OLD SON WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. BY THE TIME WE SAW THE SMOKE AND FIRE, HE TRIED TO GET OUT BUT THE DOOR WAS TOO HOT TO OPEN. I GRABBED IM, OPENED THE DRIVERS DOOR AND RAN FOR SAFETY. WE WERE TURNING AROUND ON A GRAVEL ROAD AND HAD ENTERED SOME LITE MUD AND LITE, WET GRASS BESIDE THE GRAVEL ROAD AND WE WERE PULLING A BRAND NEW VERY LITE TRAILER WITH THREE SMALL DIRT BIKES ON IT. THE FIRE WAS SO HOT THAT THE NEW TRAILER HITCH MELTED AND WAS FUSED TO THE TRAILER NECK. MY 5 YEAR OLD SON'S BIKE WHICH WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRAILER WAS BURNED AND MELTED TO THE FRAME. MY SON AND I WERE FORTUNATE TO GET OUT ALIVE.*AK
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY, IT WAS PURCHASED IN JAN OF 2003. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE NEEDED A NEW BATTERY EVERY YEAR. EACH TIME THE CAR WAS RUNNING AS USUAL AND THE NEXT TIME I WENT TO TURN THE CAR ON IT SIMPLY WOULD NOT START. I WENT O THE DEALERSHIP AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, THE SECOND TIME I HAD TO PURCHASE IT. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE LIBERTY MODEL. THIS LAST TIME THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED WITHOUT COST TO ME SINCE THE BATTERY FAILED UNDER A YEAR. I ASKED MY DEALERSHIP TO PERFORM A FULL DIAGNOSTIC ON THE CAR AND ITS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. THOUGH NOW I CAN FEEL THE CAR ALMOST STUTTERING AS IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER AND THE CAR STALLED OUT WHEN I STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT. THE CAR WOULD STAY ON IN PARK, NEUTRAL, AND REVERSE BUT NOT DRIVE. THAT HAS STOPPED BUT NOW I AM AFRAID IT WILL STALL OUT ON ME AT ANY TIME. ALSO EVERY TIME THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THE BATTERY HAD BEEN DRAINED COMPLETELY, THE CAR COULD NOT BE JUMPED EVEN AT THE DEALERSHIP. ANY HELP OR INFORMATION WITH THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *NM
WHILE TRAVELING AT 35 MPH, ANOTHER DRIVER TRAVELING AT THE SAME SPEED CAME ACROSS IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S LANE AND STRUCK FRONT OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HEAD-ON. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.*AK *YD
THE SUSPENSION IS SO LOW IN THE FRONT (ONLY MEASURES 5") THAT WHEN YOU DRIVE OFF ROAD THE ROCKS/SAND FILL UP THE SKID PLATE AND IF LEFT THERE COULD RUB HOLES IN THE OIL PAN/MESS UP THE BOOTS ON THE SUSPENSION AND POSSIBLY STOP THE SUSPENSION FROM FUNCTIONING. IF DRIVING ON SLUSHY/FROZEN ROADS THE VEHICLE WOULD BECME A SKI. IS THIS AN OFF-ROAD VEHICLE AS ADVERTIZED OR IS IT STRICKLY AN ASPHALT VEHICLE.*AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A DIRECT FRONTAL COLLISION AT 30MPH. UPON IMPACT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING MINOR INJURIES TO THE DRIVER. VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY AN INVESTIGATOR FROM CHRYSLER. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IMPACT WAS NOT HARD ENOUGH TO DEPLOY THE AIR BAGS. A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON THE VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL; HOWEVER, OWNERS NOTIFICATION HAS NOT BEEN SENT. *AK *YD
HAVE EXPERIENCED HARMONIC NOISE AND VIBRATION IN THE FLOOR BOARD AND CENTER CONSOLE. THE VIBRATION AND NOISE ARE MOST APPARENT WHEN DECELERATING FROM A HIGHER SPEED DOWN THROUGH 50 TO 55 MPH. THE VIBRATION AND NOISE SOUND AS IF YOU HAVE KNOBBY ALL TERRAIN TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WHEN IN FACT YOU DO NOT. THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS AND MADE EVERY EFFORT TO IDENTIFY THE VIBRATION AND NOISE. THEY FOUND A SLIGHTLY OUT OF BALANCE WHEEL, BUT THE VIBRATION AND NOISE REMAIN. SINCE THEN, I HAVE DRIVEN TWO OTHER JEEP LIBERTY VEHICLES, BOTH OF THEM HAVING SIMILAR VIBRATION AND NOISE. PERHAPS I HAVE A DISCRIMINATING EAR BEING AN ENGINEER, BUT THAT DOES'T EXPLAIN WHY PASSENGERS ALSO FEEL THE VIBRATION AND HEAR THE NOISE. I GUESS I AM FORTUNATE TO HAVE THE 7 YEAR/ 100,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE DRIVE TRAIN. *AK
SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT, BUT IT STILL PULLS TO THE RIGHT. *AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES THEY LOCKED UP, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL. VEHICLE HIT A TREE. DEALER CONTACTED. *AK
WHILE INVOLVED IN A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT, THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE. THE OTHER VEHICLE INVOLVED DID DEPLOY. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY PROBLEM. *AK
THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE CONSOLE IS ON AND I AM UNABLE TO CLEAR THE CODE. PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVEN'T HIT ANYTHING WHILE DRIVING TO CAUSE THE LIGHT ERROR TO BE ACTIVATED. I AM REPORTING THIS DUE TO THE PRIOR REPORTS OF AIR BAGS BEING TRIGGERED AND EXPLODING IN 2002 JEEP LIBERTY WITHOUT PROVOCATION. I AM ADVOCATING AN AIR BAG PRODUCT RECALL FOR THE 2002 JEEP LIBERTY.
IT ONLY HAS 3700 MILES ON IT AND HAVE ONLY DRIVEN IT 2 MONTHS AND WENT TO GET 1ST OIL CHANGE AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A LEAK & TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY DETERMINED THAT BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR SEALS ON THE TRANSMISSION WERE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN DETECTED IF I HADEN'T TAKEN IT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE. OR EVEN IF THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY LEAKING. I JUST HAVE TO SAY THEY DON'T MAKE TRUSTWORTHY VEHICLES LIKE THEY USED TO.

RECALL 01V31100; CONSUMER RECIEVED RECALL LETTER CONCERNING KNEE BLOCKER TRIM PANEL APPROXIMATELY FOUR MONTHS AGO, DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, BUT HAD NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO CORRECT RECALL PROBLEM. *AK
A BOLT WITH A BUILT ON WASHER DROPPED FROM DASH BETWEEN WINDSHIELD AND STEERING COLUMN. IT WAS A LARGE BOLT, AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS FOR. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED TO BRING IN VEHICLE. &*AK
VEHICLE WOULD WANDER ACROSS THE ROAD WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 60-65 MPH, DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. *AK *YD
NO IMPACT TO FRONT DIFFERENTIAL NOTED. *AK
WHILE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING ABOVE 25 MPH AND BRAKES ARE APPLIED, DRIVER'S POWER ADJUSTING SEAT AND FRONT PASSENGER'S POWER ADJUSTING SEAT SLIDE FORWARD INTO CONSOLE. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE, AND MADE REPAIRS FOR THIS PROBLEM TWICE. REPAIRS HAVE FAILED TO SOLVE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION.*AK
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS VEHICLE FISHTAIL SEVERELY ON WET ROAD AT SLOW SPEED, RESULTING IN LOST OF CONTROL, CAUSING MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE.
THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS LOUD LOW FREQUENCY VIBRATIONS @ 53MPH. THE DRIVESHAFT HAS BEEN REPLACED AFTER BEING DECLARED OUT OF BALANCE. IT IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 5TH TIME FOR THIS REPAIR. DISCUSSIONS WITH OTHER LIBERTY OWNERS INDICATES THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. A SUBSEQUENT TEST DRIVE OF ONE OTHER VEHICLE SHOWED THE SAME PROBLEM.*AK
JEEP LIBERTY ROLLED OVER THREE TIMES, TOTALING THE VEHICLE. THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT HOLD US BACK TO THE SEAT AS DESIGNED TO DO. DUE TO THIS, WE HAD WHIPLASH AND A FEW SCRAPES. TO DATE, WE ARE STILL IN CHRONIC PAIN AND NEED ONGOING CHIROPRACTOR CARE. OUR MEDICAL BILLS ARE QUITE HIGH DUE TO THIS. *NLM

WAS BACKING VEHICLE UP AND NOTICED A BELT IN DRIVEWAY. STOPPED VEHICLE AND PICKED BELT UP. ONCE IN VEHICLE, WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THAT STEERING BELT HAD BECOME DISLODGED AND FELL OFF.*AK
BECAUSE THE SEAL ALONG THE HINGE OF THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR IS TOO SHORT RAIN SEEPS INSIDE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE DOOR TO RUST. A COMPLAINT WAS MADE TO THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER. *AK *YH

VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER ON FIVE OCCASIONS, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK THE CONSUMER ALSO STATES THAT THEY FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM AT 500 MILES, THEN A SIGNIFICANT UNEVEN WEARING OF THE TIRES. SCC *NLM
WHILE VEHICLE WAS GOING ABOUT 45MPH CONSUMER HAD TO APPLY BRAKES FAST, AND PASSENGER'S SEAT WENT FORWARD INTO DASHBOARD. SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO DRIVER'S SEAT 2 WEEKS APART. DEALER ORDERED A WHOLE NEW SEAT ADJUSTMENT TO REMEDY PROBLEM.*AK
WITHIN A YEAR AND A HALF, I HAD THREE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENTS. INSURANCE AGENT SAID WITH THAT MANY REPLACEMENTS, COULD BE DEFECT. EVERY TIME JEEP HIT BUMP, WOULD SQUEAK. TOOK TWO DEALERSHIPS 5 ATTEMPTS TO FIX. PAINT WAS PEELING ON GRILL, HAD REPAINTED. JEEP CONSTANTLY PULLS TO THE RIGHT. HAVE HAD ALIGNMENT AND TIRE ROTATIONS, STILL NOT FIXED. LATEST, ALL FOUR ALUMINUM WHEELS ARE CORRODING DUE TO THEM BEING MANUFACTURED WITH ALUMINUM AND STEEL. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE RIMS HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED, BUT BECAUSE MY MILEAGE IS OVER 36, 000 MILES, THEY ARE CHARGING TO REPLACE THEM EVEN THOUGH A DEALER AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP WAS HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND HAD HIS REPLACED AT NO COST. FIELD DISTRICT MANAGER REFUSES TO SPEAK TO ME, WHO MADE THE DECISION FOR ME TO PAY. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GUIDE ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. I NEED HELP. CGRAY78@AOL.COM. *JB
MY SON HIT A 50FT TREE HEAD ON AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HE AND HIS PASSENGER WERE BOTH INJURED AND CHRYSLER IS TELLING ME THAT HE WASN'T GOING FAST ENOUGH OR HIT HARD ENOUGH TO DEPLOY AIR BAGS. PASSENGER'S HEAD BROKE WINDSHIELD AND MY SON'S TOOTH IS LOOSENED BY HITTING STEERING WHEEL. THE FRONT END FRAME OF JEEP IS BENT. NOT HARD ENOUGH?
CONSUMER WAS SLOWING VEHICLE DOWN WHILE GOING 25MPH, AND 30-40 FEET BEFORE IT ALMOST CAME AT A STAND STILL, ENGINE REVVED AND VEHICLE WAS TRYING TO GO FORWARD. REAR WHEELS WERE STILL SPINNING, AND ONLY WAY TO STOP VEHICLE FROM GOING FORWARD WAS TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. DEALER HELD VEHICLE FOR 2 DAYS, AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. *AK *SLC
WHEN VEHICLE GOES BETWEEN 50 AND 53MPH THE CAR WILL BEGIN TO DRAMATICALLY VIBRATE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT (NORWALK, CT) AND THEY TOLD ME TIRES WERE OUT OF WHACK & THEY REBALANCED TIRES & SAID IT WAS FIXED. OBVIOUSLY THEY DID NOT TEST DRIVE B/C PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. TOOK CAR TO PAMBY IN RIDGEFIELD,CT AND ONE OF THE OWNERS TEST DROVE IT AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. BROUGHT CAR BACK TO THEM ABOUT 1 MONTH LATER AND 2 MECHANICS SAID YES, CAR DOES VIBRATE AT 50MPH. THEY TOOK OUT DRIVE SHAFT AND PUT ANOTHER ONE IN FROM ANOTHER LIBERTY SPORT & SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED. THEY THEN TOOK OUT DRIVE SHAFT AND GAVE ME MY OLD ONE BACK. SERVICE WRITER SAID HE WOULD CONTACT CHRYSLER AND GET BACK TO ME WITH INFO. AFTER 3 WEEKS AND NO CALL I WENT INTO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER HAD NOT CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT. BACK YET. IT HAS NOW BEEN 6 WEEKS AND STILL NO ANSWER FROM DEALERSHIP OR CHRYSLER!! I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN GOOD FAITH THAT IT WOULD BE A SAFE AND DEPENDABLE VEHICLE! VEHICLE ALSO NOW DOES VIBRATING AT 70MPH. STILL CURIOUS AS TO WHEN CHRYSLER WILL RECALL THIS AND FIX IT CORRECTLY! DT

REAR END DIFFERENTIAL/SUSPENSION AND OR BRAKES/WHEELS MAKES GRINDING NOISE WHEN FRONT WHEELS ARE TURNED, PUTING REAR WHEELS IN A SITUATION OF DIFFERENT TIRE ROTATION AT LOW SPEEDS, SOUNDING LIKE REAR BRAKES ARE DRAGGING. DEALER HAS ALREADY REPLACED REAR BRAKES AND TURNED DOWN DRUMS. NOISE STILL EXIST. DEALER STATED IN WRITING THAT THEY WERE AWAITING A SERVICE BULLETIN TO CORRECT DEFECT.*AK
